“Robs,” Steve starts quietly, “I think I might have a problem.” He hears her shift on the couch, put her can down.

“Okay.”

“So, I…” he sighs. “You’re gonna hate me for this.”

“It would be very, very hard for me to hate you, Steve,” she says, just as quietly. He swallows the lump in his throat.

“So… I kinda need to preface this by saying that… I think I like guys, too?”

“Steven Harrington the Third,” she starts, because she knows it annoys him, “did you just come out to me?”

“I’m not a third. And my name’s not Steven, Robs, c’mon.”

“Steve.”

“Yes.”

She takes a breath. “Okay. And this is not the problem you have?”

“No.” He cracks a smile. “Kinda hard, with all the shit we’ve seen. That part just kinda makes sense.”

She snorts in agreement. “Okay, so what is your problem?”

Steve looks anywhere but at her. “Okay, so… have you ever been touching someone, and it… it wasn’t even a thing, right, just casual touching, like everybody does, except you can’t stop thinking about it?”

Robin sighed the sigh of the long-suffering best friend. “And would the person in question happen to be a guy you have a crush on?”

“I don’t know.” Even without looking, he knows she’s raising a brow at him. “I don’t, I swear! Maybe? I just… I’m just me, and he’s so…” he waves a hand around, trying to find words. “Him,” he lands on inadequately.

Robin sighs again. “You’ve got a crush, Steve.”

“Okay, but… but the touch? Shouldn’t it… not affect me like that?”

He can tell she’s studying him, and he shifts slightly. “Give me your hand.”

He looks up at her in surprise, noticing her hand out, fingers wiggling impatiently. He places his hand in hers, muffling a surprised noise when she pulls him on top of her and wraps her arms around him. “What are you doing?”

“Testing something.” She shifts, wiggling until they’re both laying down.

“Am I not crushing you?”

She gives him a dry look. “I’ll live.”

He rolled his eyes. “Robs, c’mon, what’re you doing?”

“Toldja. Testing something.” She squirms when his fingers poke her sides. “Jesus, fine. How do you feel?”

Steve blinks. “Um. Fine?”

“Oh my god, Steve. The touching. How does the touching make you feel?”

He considers it, moves so he can sit up, and immediately misses her arms around him. He collapses back onto her. “Okay, yeah.”

She laughs even as she wraps her arms back around him. “Pretty sure you’re touch-starved, dingus.”

“Then why can’t I stop thinking about him?”

“Because you’re touch-starved and have a crush. Is he someone you can do something about?”

He blinks. “What?”

“Can you, like, tell him? Would he be weird about it?”

Steve snorts. “He’s always weird. But… no. I think he’d be okay with it. Or, maybe not me having a crush on him, but he’d be fine with me liking guys.”

“Okay. Is there a chance he’d ever reciprocate it?”

Steve almost joked about a cold day in hell before remembering weirder things happened. “Maybe. I guess. I don’t know.”

“Is it someone I know?”

“Yeah.”

“Is it… hm. Have you known him for a while?”

pt 2 of the story I made for my 8th grade english class! this was absolutely wild to reread, I was such a weird kid lol. also maple totally isn’t a kinda sorta self insert that I grew to love a lot… /s (text below if you can’t read my handwriting)

pg 6: “Wh-what?! You didn’t even repay me for helping with your stupid lyrics!” Icky scoffed. “Well uhhh… how about my hoodie? You can have that,” Byron said, taking off his Joji hoodie his mom gave him. “Ooh, really? For little old me, heh? Thanks a ton buddy!” Icky smiled, laughing as it couldn’t fit at all the 3’5” demon. “Well, can you help me now?” Byron asked through his giggles. Icky suddenly stopped laughing, which scared Byron a bit. “Listen kid. I can make you the best singer for your age. I can make you rich and famous for the rest of your life. But there’s a catch, and it’s a hard one,” Icky explained, looking serious. “W-what is it? D-do I have to donate a pitcher of my blood or something?” Byron stammered, looking pale. “What?! That stuff’s stupid! Nah, you just gotta guess my favourite song, that’s all,” Icky replied, looking amused. “Wait, is that it? Just guess a song?” Byron said, seeming confused.

pg 7: “Uh yeah, but don’t you realize there’s like, a million billion songs? It’ll take you years to guess it, hah!!!” Icky laughed, looking like it already won the bet. “Well, how much time do I have to guess?” Byron asked. “Oh, only the rest of your life! Or until you guess the right song.” Icky said, and randomly disappeared. “Huh, what was that fo-” Byron inquired, getting cut off as a knock sounded from the door of the studio room. “Can I come in?” a somewhat familiar voice called out. “Um, yeah, sure,” Byron answered, and the door opened. Instantly, Byron felt a rush of happiness as he saw his blind sister, Maple. Maple rushed to him, and they hugged. “How are you? I heard from mom that some record people came to you and told you to make a song, or whatever,” Maple said, her voice tainted with concern. “Oh, well it’s hard… but I can do it. For you and mom… and the internet, heh,” Byron responded. Maple nodded, seeming satisfied.

pg 8: “Good, I don’t want you being overworked! Aren’t you finding it hard figuring this all out on your own?” she asked. “Oh, well I’ve always found this kinda stuff easy… y’know?” Byron lied, thinking of Icky. “Ah, well those damn record people told me to keep the visit short… so I gotta go now,” Maple sighed, and ruffled Byron’s hair. “See ya little bro… and you better make the best song ever, or else!”. Then she was gone. “Wow, that’s your sister? Lemme get her number, hehe!” “Shut up Icky. And yes, that’s her,” Byron growled, turning to Icky. “Ah, whatever! Anyways, are you gonna guess the song?” Icky asked. For the rest of the evening, Byron guessed random songs, which turned out to be wrong. “Uh, Eye of the Tiger? Emo Boy? Sicko Mode?” “Nope, nope, and nope!” Icky would always respond. Finally, Byron decided to go to bed, and maybe go for a walk to clear his head the next morning.

pg 9: And that’s exactly where he found his answer. As Byron was walking along the city streets (with the agents’ permission, of course) he heard singing coming from an alleyway. Turning to the alley, he saw Icky! The small demon was floating around a fire, singing a familiar song. “Two trucks, having sex! Two trucks, having sex! My muscles, my muscles, involuntary flex!”. Instantly, Byron recognized the song. It was Two Trucks by Lemon Demon! “Mm, maybe that’s its favourite song…” Byron questioned, and rushed back to the music station. In his room, he called out: “Hey Icky! I wanna talk.”. At the command, the little violet demon appeared. “Hey there mortal! Come to grovel and guess my favourite song?” “Yep… I have a few more songs to guess,” Byron said, feeling confident. “Alright, guess away my friend!” Icky grinned and sat down. “Hm… Bad Guy? Riptide? Ok Ok?” Byron guessed. “Nah, Billie Eilish is for depressed 14 year old chicks.” Icky snorted.

And one day, he realized his own story to fame was similar to a fairytale he heard as a kid. “Eh, it’s probably just my imagination,” Byron told himself, and went to go skateboarding with Icky, Maple, and some other people he never met.

I'll just do one point, for the Richie side of the fight, as I the writer don't have much to say about it but yeah it was-- Shit was brutal. It was very interesting to look at the freezer fight again with the perspective of Tony in mind and going,,,, huh,,,, they could both be talking to her, in this. The You're Nothing really also-- I wonder if Carmen will ever actually say that to someone, in canon. I don't think he could. But also they might just be saving it for the biggest explosion.

Writing Carmen's dialogue for this was very tough and interesting, for me-- Because like-- With the information he had, I kinda got it. It's funny that while writing that line, I had always planned for that line to be like, the spinebreaker but I was worried, when I had actually put it to paper, that readers were somehow not gonna think it was that bad. I'm glad everyone thought it was horrifically bad. He fucked up there.

Probably Through the Fire. It was such a sad ending! It had to be done! Someone said "What kind of sane person would write an ending so sad???" Literally made my day as a writer.

Most of them got happy endings LOL. But the one that ended the sweetest, hm, probably...Sunday?

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Nope. I be in my own little corner of the innanet and all my comments and reblogs have been positive! It might change with my Kang fic and I'm okay with that. Block button is my bestie.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

YES! A thousand times yes. So far, they've all been one shot smut fics that resolves itself. I have some pt 2's coming, but I'm so behind on Tyrone asks. I'm sorry!!!! I will get to them, promise.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

Never did a crossover. My fandoms are all over the place and the only one to use for crossovers is Marvel and I'm not that confident yet. I don't hate on folks who do, but not the type of fics I be reading.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I know of and I hope it never does. That's so heartless and unnecessary. Everyone can write. You don't need to steal.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

Nope. That would be a huge compliment though!

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?

Nah. But I'm constantly flinging my fic ideas at friends and they share with me. I love it.

14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?

I'm so not a person that ships, it's terrible. Canon relationships bore me to tears or I know that the writers are gonna do some fuck shit to break them up, so why bother? However, I'm obsessed with Attoye and Janine and Gregory from Abbott Elementary.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Believe it or not, I write fics in the moment and release them in the wild before I have a chance to go back and change everything. I only plot my series. And I plan to finish both series! I've been trying to think of what other series I can do.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I write dialogue pretty well. I'm able to write things in character and pay attention to their characteristics.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Do we have all day? LOL. Nah, I think scene descriptions are still my biggest weakness. I always put them in a white room and it's hard picturing it well enough to write it down. I'm trying to work on it!

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I haven't done it. Only because Google translate only takes you so far and it doesn't take nuance into account. And I appreciate when there's translations after the fic. It's hard to copy on mobile and put it into Translate to figure out what was said.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I just started fic writing this year. LOL. I used to say I missed a crucial part of writing culture as a teen. But it was a Marvel Loki fic.

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

I can't choose between my babies! But it would probably be my Loki series. One of the chapters I finished, I was like??? Okay, you fuckin' ate that. I felt so proud of myself as a writer, that self-satisfaction is what I'm writing for.

WEEK 2 - Wrap Up

LIFE IS A GAMBLE!!!!

My daughter Caroline recently turned 21. For her birthday I got her a FanDuel account with $100 in it. She thought it was funny but really had no desire to bet anything. Then, yesterday she called and said "I think that I want to bet on the Sunday Night game." I said "great I am happy to walk you through it - who do you want to bet on?" She said, "I want the dolphins to win...Moneyline right?" So I showed her what to push and how to do it and she put $10 on it. Later that night - she started texting me asking if she should "cashout" or "let it ride" and decided to stay in till the end. Well, it got a little scary at the end and she sent me this video (above) when the patriots almost found a way to keep the game going and potentially tie it up. I love how much she got into it - after just 1 bet and the potential of a $8 profit. Also, how she was trying to be quiet because her roommates were sleeping but she was up - watching the game! Congrats to Caroline on making her first $8 off the NFL. Two games tonight so who knows how much she will end up with! Now on to the wrap up!

Yes this was me Sunday night after Mostert ran in for his second TD and got his 100 yard bonus to shut the door on Boomer Sooner's chance at victory. And with Jamaal Williams still to play on MNF I am hoping I can squeak out a High Point win, stealing it from Mitch. Do I venmo myself the $20? Oh well...it was a good week My Balls...but I have to say that Stu put up a good fight...with 26 from Herbert, 16 from White, 14 from Wilson, and starting things off on Thursday night with 18 from Hockenson and 13 from Addison. Gotta be how HOWARD was feeling after losing to the 0-1 Trade with Me who put up less than 100 points. What can he do...it was just one of those weeks. When Chase puts up 3 and Mattison still doesn't understand that he is the lead back in Minnesota - you are gonna have weeks where you can barely hit 70 points. Brett showed up with an incredible come back by Danny Dimes with 34 and a great week from James Cook (Buff) -20 pts...throw in 13 from a YoungHoe...and it's a winning week. What is going on in Seattle? Scotty K putting together another win to move to 2-0. This week he took advantage of Kyle Allmendinger having a pretty good week but not good enough. Right time, right place for Scott K? Or is he for real this year? He does have CMC, James Conner, Devonte Adams and even though Metcalf didn't throw up a ton of points he is a force for sure. Kyle left it all up to Miles Sanders on MNF to pull it out. He just needed 38.57 to do it which seems like a tall order - so I am going to call it as Scott wins. Congrats Scott - wonderful start to the season.

TuPADRE vs FUNK GUY

The first of our two "it comes down to MNF" match ups is Gully vs Dana. This was started out close with Dana leading with 102 and Gully and Son just behind at 98. Gully with Chubb and Freiermuth (TE Pittsburgh) and Dana with all of his chips left in hands of Najee Harris. At least all of these were in the same MNF game since we have two tonight. Bad news for Gully early on as Chubb went out ...carried off on the cart not to return and once I saw the footage - he is out for a long time (prayers for Chubb and the Gullahorns season)...so it quickly shifted to Najee against this guy Freiermuth. Najee the first half had a grand total of 4 rushing yards....but he found some life at the end of the 3rd quarter and it put Dana over for the win. After last weeks last minute loss it's nice to see Dana come back in Week 2. Congrats Dana and just like that Gully and Son are 0-2.

He still has Panthers Defense - who put up 8 last week...so not bad...and Gabe has Shaheed (WR for New Orleans) still to play who did put up 14 in week one - so I guess if Bebo's defense puts up low low numbers and Gabe's WR goes off it's possible for Gabe to win. Worst Lines in Lolita (Pt 1), with comment

It's hard to parse what he's talking about out of context, but the previous lines discuss the development of breast tissue in adolecence. "tiddle" is a real word apparently, that carries the connotations of fondness and fidgeting (implying that humbert is describing these girls and his pleasure of them), but the similarity to "titties" is, I believe, intentional. Considering the cutsey purple prose, Humbert is describing premature breast tissue as "tiddles," rather than full on "tits." We are only on page 20 out of 310. Emphasizing the cutsieness of children through prose, but likewise softening his attraction to children through obfuscation, is something Humbert will do frequently: see his insistence that he is attracted to nymphets, that not every child can be a nymphet, and nymphets are elusive, wildly attractive creatures that any man would be justified in being tempted towards, yet defining a nymphet as a girl between 10 and 14 years old.

2. In one of the opening sections, Humbert makes a distinction between Dutch and English, and I filed that away as "probably racist in his vintage european way." I was stunned into silence by this sequence: Not only was I right, Humbert Humbert went the extra mile to say yes I’m sexually attracted to children… but only WHITE children. obviously. you fucking numbskull. good lord above.

3. god, the way this has the makings of clever phrasing but falls utterly flat makes me want to bang my head against the wall. He thinks he's so fucking cute and smarter than everyone around him im gonna beat his head in with a noika (I'm also largely critiquing the style, not the content, because pedophilia is obviously wrong and I feel no need to comment.)

4. He licks a 7th grader's eyeball in a horny way. No words.

5. This means exactly what you think: He is groping Delores, the 12yo object of his attractions, in the genital region. Firstly, I see lots of traces of how ageplay/ddlg blogs talk to their "littles" here, and I wonder how much Lolita contributed to that culture. Secondly, it's worth noting how his most insipid descriptions are when he gropes Delores. Thirdly, the vagina as a plaything (read: an object to own and play with) and the connotations with childhood... this book is fantastic in a deeply unpleasant way.

7. Engorged evokes the idea of aroused genitalia, Humbert, saying it's your heart won't cut it. aside from that, the idea of wrapping his heart around the cloth - rather than the other way around - is creative, and almost sweet, if it weren't so disgusting.

8. sweetmeat in this context is ice cream. Another line that left me absolutely speechless.

I totally forgot about a line where he's smelling her clothes and says "I found her scent addicting, but I think she should take a bath once in a while," (paraphrasing) and I was yet again speechless. I'm not rereading the book to find it.

The Ledge #568: New Releases (Pt. 2)

After last week's special Record Store Day edition of the monthly "new release" show, we're back this week with the more traditional type of broadcast devoted to brand new tunes. And, like usual, we're all over the place when it comes to genres. There's some great power pop. There's a little bit of punk. A tad here and there of garage rock. And, yes, there's some Americana.

But it's not just the varied genres of the show. It's the fact that this music comes from all over the world. From Australia to Germany to Canada to even my little city of Sioux Falls, SD. Yes, the first set of the show is devoted to a trio of great local bands - The Rose Quarter, Thought Patrol, and Off Contact - all of whom have wonderful records that are eithier already out or about to be released.

As for the "52 Weeks of Teenage Kicks", I have a cover that's almost 40 years old but is still technically a new release. The version by Dawn Chorus & The Blue Tits initially came out on Stiff Records in 1985, but it has also now been included in a brand new collection of female power pop. She's Got The Power! Female Power Pop, Punk & Garage not only includes this track but tunes by Blondie, The Dollyrots, Baby Shakes, Amy Rigby, Lydia Loveless, Shonen Knife, and many more!

And, of course, I have to once again beg y'all for brand new covers of this classic tune. Please, please, please, if you have the capabilities, or know any artists that would be perfect to remake "Teenage Kicks", send them my way! “Hey, Sammy?” Dean asked hesitantly. 

“Yeah?” his brother answered, turning around from the kitchen where he was cooking. 

“I gotta tell you something…” 

“Yeah, you only stand like that when you do,” he responded, putting down his spatula. “What is it?” 

“Uh… well, you probably know…” 

“Depends on what it is,” Sam said, starting to get nervous. “Dean, are you alright?”

“I will be once I get this out. Why… why don’t we sit down? You want to grab a beer?” 

“Dean it is 10 in the morning,” he sighed, sitting down. 

Dean awkwardly fidgeted in his seat. 

“Dude, the longer you sit here, the more awkward you’re gonna get about it. Spit it out.”

“I caught one word of that which was ‘Cas’ so do you want me to take a stab or do you want to try again?” 

Dean took a deep breath in and tried again. 

“I am bisexual -” his voice hitched and he studied his brother’s face closely “- and biromantic and in a relationship with Cas.” 

“Yeah dumbo I know, so go on,” Sam responded kindly. 

Dean blinked. 

“Wh… what?” 

“I know you’re bisexual and I know you’re with Cas, I thought you knew that!” 

“And you… you’re okay with that?” 

“Dude, of course I am! Why wouldn’t I be?” 

“You… you don’t think it’s weird?” 

“Come here you jerk,” Sam said, standing up and opening his arms for a hug. 

“Bitch,” Dean responded automatically, shyly standing up and hugging his brother. 

“FINALLY!” a voice cried, startling them into spinning around and into a fighting pose. 

Castiel stood in the doorway, smiling. Dean walked over to him and kissed him happily. 

“Congrats, you two,” Sam smiled. 

“Thanks Sammy,” Dean smiled, taking Cas’s hand and walking to the living room.

I am doing a project on disability pride! Please read and give me a hand!

Hello there! 

I am disabled and have decided to do an extensive project about disability pride (what it is, the history of it, why it matters, as well as how the ADA impacts it and am going to use a large university near me to talk about it). 

If you have any websites, creators, books, topics, quotes, or would like to tell me about your experience with being disabled and your disabled pride, I am begging you, reblog this and respond. 

My school is not the best about disability pride (for example my teacher is not putting my topic down as disability pride, instead writing disability activism), so I’m excited to write about this. 

Anything you can give, suggest, or say is greatly appreciated. 

Please give a fellow proud crip a hand and help me show my school and hopefully others about the world we live in and how we can be proud of our bodies that may not work properly.

Wanting advice on how to write a Jewish funeral

Hello! 

I’m writing a story and in the name of simple representation have decided to make the character Jewish. This is not a huge part of the story at all but I’m writing his funeral and I was wondering what traditional Jewish funerals look like? 

I did some research and this is what I found about a gravesite funeral: 

The casket is brought to the grave

Prayer recital and lowering of casket

Graveside ceremony and prayers

The Mourner’s Kaddish (a memorial prayer)

Covering the casket with earth (dirt)

I was wondering how accurate this was? It’s not a huge thing but I want it to be there and accurate :) 

Specific questions

Do people carry the casket to the grave or is it rolled there/does it not really matter? 

What do others wear? 

Are gifts/presents given to the person/family? 

How many people would be part of the avelim? Would a very close partner be included or a best friend? 

How many people would participate in the burying?
