Hazbin Hotel: Self care edition

So I’ve been obsessing over Hazbin Hotel for a hot minute now and the first thing that really comes to mind for context is self care.

To elaborate, I mean the fact that these characters often have animalistic features as part of their designs. Well, imagine them having to maintain the care of said features?

1) Hooves

To start us off, l want to bring attention to the fact that both Alastor and Charlie have hooves. Yup, both are hidden pretty well, but they are there.

If anyone has ever been around farm animals like cows and horses, you’ll know that hoof care is extremely important for the health of the animals. So why not apply this to Charlie and Alastor.

Imagine them having hoof care kits and Charlie wants to take the opportunity to bond with Alastor more so this is basically like having a nail care day at a salon!

2) Wings

Next are wings and we have three winged characters in the Hotel: Lucifer, Vaggie and Husk. Wing care must be extremely important for them to be able to fly well.

Starting with Lucifer, it’s important to note that the man has Depression and has Dissociative periods where he can’t pay attention for the life of him. So it’s unfortunately easy to imagine that he would often forget to preen his wings.

Well, after moving into the Hotel, I can see Charlie taking this opportunity to strengthen her bond with her dad by doing something that she has always wanted to do. She loves her dad’s wings and ends up helping him preen while they talk about anything and everything.

Next is Vaggie and it would be a similar premise with Charlie wanting to bond more with her girlfriend and reforge their relationship. Yes, she is hurt that Vaggie wasn’t truthful but she still loves her.

Also, apparently, Vaggie and Charlie have been together for around 3 years or so, meaning Vaggie likely hadn’t taken out her wings at all until the battle. So she is way behind on taking care of them. Charlie uses her experience with her father’s wings to assist here and the women can talk.

Finally, Husk and honestly this could be a Huskerdust moment with Angel helping an all too tired Husk preen his wings and make sure they’re healthy and in flying shape.

3) Fur

Both Angel and Husk have fur, which means fur brushing!

Angel looks like he is the king of hair care, maintaining short and soft fur and making sure to remove any mats, knots or shed fur.

Husk has a bit more to get through with his, as he has relatively long fur. Like with his wings, I can see Angel helping Husk brush out his fur and remove any clumps, loose fur and knots. It would be a good Huskerdust moment!

4) Ears

Finally, we have ears and both Husk and Alastor have them.

This is one both boys want to take care of by themselves. Ear care is important for all animals and in people with such large ears, it’s easy for either of them to collect dust and other stuff, meaning wax build up. So in the privacy of their rooms, they dedicate part of their time to cleaning out their ears and maybe even applying ear drops for extra health benefits.

Reddening a moose bone ring to aid in facilitating congress with The Land. As far as I’m aware moose aren’t especially sacred to the tribes here nor could I find any stories where they played a significant role. Tho please do correct me if I’m wrong!

EDIT: there’s a rather funny folk story here regarding “Specter Moose”. Couldn’t help but think of it during the process haha.

within programming are animal parts common?

if so, can you give any examples on what type of animals are used and what for?

Epsilon programming is used to create animal alters, which is thought to be the key to paranormal or superhuman abilities. Elements of Epsilon Programming are often added to other forms of programming to increase the effect in a specific direction.  Some examples of epsilon/beta Programming are: sex kittens. Epsilon programming is used widely in the sex industry for ‘pony girls’, ‘puppy play’ and other animal fetishes.

The intent of this programming is to give alters attributes their handler will want/need. For example, a fox would be the animal form of the altar. The subject for sexual purposes would be told they are a vixen. This would be done if they are male or female. The sexual programming would be layered in. If the programmer wanted the fox alter to remain as a 'system protector’. the subject would be given the attributes of a 'hunted fox’.

Beta programming is also known as kitten programming this is due to Beta alters generally seeing themselves as cats.

I do sort of wish western anime fans would analyze anime and manga from a framework of japanese historical and cultural context. Specifically a lot of works from the 90s being influenced by the general aimlessness and ennui that a lot of people were experiencing due to the burst in the bubble economy and the national trauma caused by the sarin terrorist attack. I think in interacting with media that’s not local to our sociocultural/sociopolitical sphere it’s easy to forget that it’s influenced and shaped by the same kinds of factors that influence media within our own cultural dome and there ends up being this baseline misalignment of perception between the causative elements of a narrative and viewer interpretation of those elements. It’s a form of death of the author that i think, in some measure, hinders our ability to fully understand/come to terms with creator intent and the full scope of a work’s merits

Video game I saw in a dream. It was in this low poly style like an older video game. You play as this character I think was meant to be a lamb, or maybe a weird mix of a lamb a mouse and a rabbit, (while not really looking like any of those things) and you’re running away from a wolf. Your objective is to last as long as possible before the wolf catches and eats you.

The house you’re running in is endless and bizarrely put together like most building interiors in dreams are (like the infinite toilet dream dimension on Reddit lol) the layout of the house is pretty detailed, you can stop and hide in places like closets or bins while the wolf looks for you, you can go up and down stairs and into rooms etc.

You never actually know where the wolf is or how close it is to you until it appears in your line of sight, it makes no noise and the game gives you no way of knowing where it is, and it’s pretty unpredictable it doesnt move at a consistent pace. When the wolf catches you there’s an animation showing it eating your character

would there be any reason for programmed system members to have animal names but not be actual animal alters? names like bear, jackal, canary, wolf, rabbit, lamb, bird, mouse? do any of those mean anything? are there any programming scripts that use animals as names like this?

When programming/training and alter and using an animal as the programmer would choose the attributes they would like and focus on strengthening those.

Parts can be named after the animal for example a wolf could be devoted to their ‘pack’, as well as travel as they don’t like to stay in one place. (there are different types of wolves so some traits will vary) There is also the ‘lone wolf’ attribute.

Bear parts can be protective and empathetic.(Also depending on the type of bear)

Their names and roles can come from the script as well as a belief system if one is followed.
