Warnings: period talk
Summary: You're on your period and Neil offers you a little comfort when he sees you're having a bad day.
Words: 2.2k
Pairing: Neil Melendez x Doctor!reader
A/N: It's ridiculous how much time I wasted searching for a gif and still ending up unsatisfied. But for some reason when I search for gifs on tumblr for my writing I just get reaction memes these days. It's so annoying! Anyway, this was requested. I hope you like it and it's the way you imagined :) I really want to write more again, because it felt so good to just sit down and start typing, but life is so busy at the moment and both my physical and mental health aren't so great too! Hopefully it will all get better soon :)
Tumblr media
You should have known it would be ‘one of those days’ when you walked into work with a belly ache, but you didn’t think much of it, hoping if you just ignored it the pain would eventually go away.
Only it didn’t. Instead it got worse, spreading into your lower back and making it hard to keep standing. All you wanted to do was sit or lie down and not move anymore, perhaps even curl over until the pain faded.
But you were on shift, the ER was buzzing and the hospital was understaffed. Sighing you grabbed the next patient’s file, scanning it quickly as you made your way over to where he was seated. Too late you realized someone was crossing your way and you bumped right into them, startling at the unexpected contact.
“Sorry!” You took a step back and glanced up at the man dressed in the blue scrubs, relieved but also a little nervous to find it was Neil Melendez. The two of you got along well, so well that it made you hope he would eventually ask you out.
But he hadn’t yet and you didn’t have the heart to do it yourself, fearing the humiliation of a rejection since you would have to keep working together.
Neil teased you and he flirted with you, but that didn’t have to mean anything. He was naturally charming. Still you hoped for the moment to come, your heart always losing its steady rhythm for a second when you laid eyes on him.
“It’s nothing.” He smiled at you and you tried to reciprocate it, but a sharp pain in your belly made your face twist in pain instead. “Well, I should get going”, you said once the pain had ebbed a little, but you didn’t make it far as Neil held you back by your elbow.
“You okay?” His brows were knitted and he watched you with a frown, his eyes darting over your face before he locked eyes with you again. You drew in a breath, tensing a little at the proximity and trying to ignore your galloping heart.
“Yeah, I’m fine”, you brushed it off, this time managing a smile. You saw Neil slightly narrow his eyes at you, but before he could say anything else you offered him a nod and hurried away.
-
You had never looked so much forward to your break, the imagination of finally sitting down and eating a meal keeping you going for the rest of the morning. But just as you handed over your last patient’s file, planning to head to the cafeteria, a voice called you back.
It was Dr. Lim. She was marching over to you and you could tell from her face she wanted something from you.
Not now.
“What is it?”, you asked, once she came to stand beside you, not hiding your frustration. The other doctor looked at you surprised, before holding an iPad out to you. “The imaging and report from Mr. Wellington’s CT just came in.”
You let your eyes flicker over it, not finding anything worth this fuss. “And?”, you asked, sounding as impatient as you felt to get held back. “That’s what I thought too”, Audrey continued unbothered, “but then I found this.” She used her fingers to zoom in on it.
“See this shadow?”
You squinted your eyes. “Could be anything.” “Right, but it looks like a small tumour. I already ran a biopsy. The results should be in soon.”
You glanced up at her, waiting for her to come to the point. When she didn’t say more you sighed. “So? Why are you showing me this?”
“Okay-“, Audrey snapped the iPad’ case shut, handing it over to the nurse’s desk, “Someone’s in a mood today!”
You winced under her glare, regretting how harsh you had sounded. It wasn’t her fault you were having a bad day and she didn’t deserve your attitude. “Sorry.”
You closed your eyes and took a deep inhale, trying to push away your annoyance. You really didn’t want to argue with Audrey today. Especially not over something stupid like this.
“It’s just-” You opened your eyes again, gesturing at the busy ER. “-My back is killing me and I have the worst cramps and I just want to lay down and suffer in silence.”
You let out a chuckle at your dramatic words and the way they came out as if they had been at the tip of your tongue only waiting to slip out, which probably wasn’t far from the truth, and Audrey offered you a sympathetic smile. “That time of the month?”
You nodded, surprised that you didn’t feel embarrassed to talk about it with her. Audrey always seemed so strong and unbothered and you couldn’t imagine her whining over a stupid period. But she seemed to know exactly what you were talking about.
“The mood swings are the worst for me. You might know I’m not the most patient person out there-”, you grinned, thinking of the many incidents she had proven what a short temper she coud have, “but during that time? You really don’t want to pick a fight with me then!”
You laughed. It was just too easy to imagine. “I bet Melendez and Andrews have made that mistake.” Audrey’s face lit up. “Oh, trust me they have!” She shook her head, smiling. “And they learn from it.”
“As they should”, you nodded, “at least they don’t have to attempt 12-hour shifts while it feels like their insides get twisted inside-out.”
Audrey laid her hand on your lower arm, squeezing lightly. “Ibuprofen’s your best friend. And if you ever need to take a break and lay down just tell me.”
You felt a lump forming in your throat and you had to will back your tears. Damn hormones! “Thank you.” You hoped she could hear how sincere you were, the thought of having an escape providing you with relief strong enough to give you a little energy back.
“We women have to stick together.” Audrey squeezed your arm again, before retreating and you looked after her for a moment, grateful to have a friend in her.
-
When you had finally made it to the cafeteria, your pager had gone off right as it had been your turn to order. “You can’t be serious”, you muttered as you pulled it out and read it. “Hey, are you going to order or what?”, you heard someone ask behind you, but without another word you took off, praying you would make it to your patient in time.
Luckily you had. But afterwards you had been pulled right into another case and before you knew it, it had grown dark outside and your stomach was growling at you.
The cafeteria was long closed and so you got a chocolate bar from the vending machine, promising yourself to get real food once you were off the clock.
The ER had quietened down as it often did at the end of your shift and since you had never taken your break you allowed yourself a moment to take a breath in the resident’s lounge.
Although you weren’t a resident anymore you still liked to come here. Perhaps it was the closeness to Neil’s office or the quiet it provided at the end of the day when the residents had all gone home. There was no one who could tell you off as you curled up on the sofa.
The chocolate tasted heavily in your mouth and you devoured it until the last crumb. “You look like you just fell in love.”
“Huh?” You glanced up, to find Neil at the door, casually entering the room and coming to stand in front of you.
He gestured towards the wrapper you had placed on the table. “The chocolate.”
Oh. You let out a chuckle as you realized you had stared at it longingly while you had contemplated whether it was reasonable to get up and get another one or if it wasn’t worth the effort it would take to search for a vending machine.
“That was probably the best chocolate I’ve ever had”, you declared and Neil chuckled. “Your standards are very low then.” You tried to look offended but failed. “Don’t speak ill of the vending machines. They are real life savers. And it’s been a tough day.”
You said it lightly, but you saw Neil’s jaw twitch at the last part. “What happened?”
He walked over to where you were sitting and you shuffled to the side to make space for him. He leaned against the armrest, his body angled towards yours. “Nothing I-”
But suddenly tears were clouding your eyes as all the emotions you had bottled up threatened to spill over. “Damn it!” You wiped at your eyes before the tears could spill, feeling your cheeks heat up in embarrassment.
You didn’t need to look at Neil’s face to see the worry on it.
“Sorry”, you let out an embarrassed chuckle and Neil smiled at you softly. “I’m usually not this emotional. It’s been a long day that’s all.”
“You have had longer ones and didn’t bat an eye.” It wasn’t an accusation, only genuine confusion on Neil’s part and your heart swelled at the hidden compliment and how much he cared to understand you.
“Yeah”, you muttered, closing your eyes as another cramp hit you. When you opened them again you hoped your face hadn’t betrayed you and given away your discomfort, but the disadvantage at working so closely together was that Neil could read you by now.
Before he could make any wild guesses, you decided to just tell him the truth.
You didn’t have to be embarrassed about it, shouldn’t feel that way, yet it was easier said than done. You didn’t want him to think you couldn’t take the hardships of the job, that you were weak or dramatic. But even as you thought it you knew Neil would never think that of you.
Or anyone.
He wasn’t like that, wasn’t intimidated by strong willed women or the reality of what it was like to be one.
Taking a long inhale and an even longer exhale you looked up at him. “I got my period this morning and I’ve been in pain all day.” Now that you had gotten the words out you suddenly had the urge to let it all out.
“And my back is like- so bad. But the cramps are the worst. And I snapped at Audrey. And then again at Glassman. And I almost bawled my eyes out when my patient made it out of surgery and his wife came to see him. And this-”, you gestured at yourself, “is the first break I have gotten all day and I don’t think I’m ever gonna stand up again.”
You stared at Neil in shock for a moment as you realized what had just happened, but then you let out a laugh. “Wow and that just came out like one long sentence!”
Neil chuckled in amusement. “That seems like a really crappy day”, he agreed and you nodded in relief that he seemed to take it serious. “Right? I mean, there are worse things, obviously, but still-” You clutched your belly again, letting out a hiss of pain.
When you looked back up Neil had shifted closer to you, his frown back in place. “Why didn’t you call in sick?”
“Really?” You shook your head, amused and a little frustrated. “I can’t just call in sick every month.”
“It’s this bad every month?”
You nodded. “Most of the time, yeah. Sometimes it’s better, other’s it’s worse. But that’s just how it is.”
Neil face twisted, clearly displeased with what you had said or the situation, perhaps both. “It shouldn’t be like that”, he said then and you looked at him for a moment, taking in his sincerity. “I mean, yeah”, you agreed after a moment. “What, you want to change the whole system now?”
Neil’s mouth curled up in the hint of a smile. “Not tonight, no. I have better plans.”
Your face fell a little as you felt a hint of disappointment at his words. Maybe he was just hanging out with friends or visiting his sister you tried to reason. But the thought of him having plans with another woman gnawed at you.
“Really? What could be better than that?”, you asked teasingly and he tipped his head towards you. “Someone needs to show you what real chocolate tastes like.”
Oh. Your hope arose so strongly you almost forgot to breathe for a moment. “And my sofa is even more comfortable than this one.” He patted the couch you were seated on, not breaking eye contact once.
You still looked at him in shock, unable to form words as you processed his. “You’re baiting me with chocolate?”, you asked once the shock had faded a little, cautious not to put too much weight into his words and Neil grinned. “I do give great massages too. I cook. And I have a big movie collection to distract you from, you know, the pain and all that.”
You smiled widely at him. “Now that wins me over”, you stated, although the thought of spending time alone with Neil was already enough. But it didn’t make his promises less appealing. And it made you feel warm inside to know how much he cared and that he had put so much thought into what he could do to make you feel better.
“Great.” He stood up. “So it’s a date?” For the first time he sounded nervous and it made your heart flutter to know it was because of you. That this, whatever it was between you, mattered to him too.
“It’s a date.”

Shaun's Playful Side
Shaun is feeling playful and bored, and pulls a few gags and pranks on his coworkers. Most of his coworkers can have a laugh out of Shaun's antics, but two of them find a need to get revenge...
This was a fanfic I had written in a separate fanfic writing spot that I had for a few months to a year. It was fun to write then, and it was extra fun to edit and upload here.
This fanfic is for @secretly-tword-obsessed. I hope you enjoy!
It was nearing the end of the long work day, and Dr. Browne was getting ready to leave. As she was getting ready, she couldn’t help but reflect over the day. She reflected over a few different things, often having to do with the patients. But the one thing she certainly reflected on, was Shaun and his silliness today.
Now, usually silliness wasn’t tolerated in the workplace. But Shaun kept his silliness under control during the work shifts. But when they were given free time...that was a whole different story today.
For some reason, Shaun had been acting a lot like a mischievous child during his breaks. Whenever they weren’t in surgery, weren’t focusing on something serious, or weren’t with/talking about the patient, Shaun would do weird things like: -play with Dr. Browne’s hair -poke Dr. Reznick multiple times -placing zip ties on Dr. Andrew’s stuff -spam Dr. Melendez with texts And: -attempt to balance different things on Dr. Park’s head.
Dr. Park and Dr. Browne saw Shaun’s unusual antics as a funny joke. They just assumed that Shaun was either feeling playful that day or trying to eliminate boredom.
Dr. Park actually found it quite funny when Shaun would come up with things to balance on his head. He even went along with it and helped him pile books on his head. Then, a goofy smile filled Shaun’s face the moment all the books came falling down. Dr. Park yelped and looked down. “Oh no!”
Shaun looked at him with a smile despite his disappointment. “It fell.”
Dr. Park chuckled. “Really? I didn’t notice! Like, at all” He said, over exaggerating his sarcasm.
Shaun pointed at him awkwardly like he usually did. “You’re being sarcastic. That’s meant to be a joke. I liked it.” Shaun explained.
“Yes, it was. And thank you.” Dr. Park said with a playful bow. “Now: How flat is your head?” Dr. Park asked, picking up the books.
Shaun felt his own head and fluffed his hair a little. “I don’t know.”
Dr. Park held up a book. “Wanna find out?” Dr. Park asked.
Shaun’s smile returned for a bit as he nodded.
And Dr. Melendez happened to walk in as Shaun and Dr. Park managed to get 3 books balanced atop Shaun’s head.
Dr. Browne would be thinking of something or reading, when Shaun would just start playing with her hair. It started with feeling it, and soon turned into uncurling and letting go of the curls. “What are you doing?” Dr. Browne asked.
“Your hair is curly. Boing boing.” Shaun said in his monotone voice.
Dr. Browne practically lost it when Shaun said ‘boing’ in the most unenthusiastic voice possible. And the ‘boing’ noises just kept going too. And Dr. Browne loved every moment of it. It was rare to see Shaun acting like this.
Dr. Andrews was a little annoyed at first. He found the zip ties everywhere, somewhat inconvenient. But, he did get some humor out of seeing the scissors, even the scissors, zip tied together. When he went to the video capturing computers to find out who it was, Dr. Andrews was plenty surprised to find out it was Shaun. Though, he supposed he didn’t fully know Shawn outside of work.
“Shaun, can you get me a pair of scissors and come to my office please?” Dr. Andrews asked.
Shaun immediately smiled as the scissors part gave away what he wanted.
When Shaun arrived at his office, Dr. Andrews was smiling and pointing to him. “I looked at the cameras...and found out you were the zip tie man.” Dr. Andrews reacted. “Now I’ll be honest: I was a little surprised at first.” Dr. Andrews admitted.
Shaun looked down, feeling guilty. “I’m sorry.”
Dr. Andrews blinked in surprise. Oh gosh- “No no no! It’s fine! It was funny. Especially seeing the scissors zip tied. That’s a classic.” Dr. Andrews told him.
Shaun looked at him with curiosity. “Now, can you cut these scissors free so I can use them to get my stuff untied?” Dr. Andrews asked, handing him the scissors.
Shaun nodded and cut the ziptie off the scissors. But when Dr. Andrews walked up to take the scissors from him, Shawn started backing up. At first, Dr. Andrews worried he may have been doing something wrong. But then, Dr. Andrews noticed something that told him everything:
Shaun’s little smile.
“Shaun...Shawn I need the scissors.” Dr. Andrews told him, walking closer.
Shaun walked another step back and shook his head with the smile on his face.
“Don’t make me come over there.” Dr. Andrews ordered. “You’re 26 years old. You know better.” Dr. Andrews reminded.
“This is fun.” Shawn told him.
“Oh?” Dr. Andrews smirked. “You want fun? Okay. I’ll give you fun.” Dr. Andrews took off running for Shaun and smiled wider when he watched Shaun turn right around and take off running.
It didn’t take long for Dr. Andrews to hunt him down and get the scissors off him. Dr. Andrews even got Dr. Browne in on helping him. In response to that; Dr. Browne started tickling Shaun and soon got the scissors from the evil Shaun Murphy.
Meanwhile, Dr. Melendez and Dr. Reznick were NOT happy with with the jokes. Morgan saw it as inappropriate for any time of the day and didn’t want him to do anything to her. Not only that, but Shaun’s poking almost revealed a secret that she’s always wanted to get away from. But luckily, it was only Shaun and her in the room when it happened. After that, Shaun’s hand was grabbed and he was verbally forced to stop.
For Dr. Melendez, receiving multiple texts from a resident that just said “hi”, can make you question how useful your phone really is. Dr. Melendez had been spending some of the day questioning if he should either break his phone against the floor, or throw it right at Shaun’s face. Both seemed tempting after all those texts.
Luckily, that hasn’t happened yet...
Fast forwarding to after work, Dr. Browne was closing her locker when Dr. Reznick bursted through the locker room door. “I swear, I am going to KILL SHAUN!” Dr. Reznick yelled.
“Holy shit! What did he do to you?” Dr. Browne asked, both surprised and amused by her reaction to a harmless prank.
“He kept poking me without stopping! It took me 5 tries to get him to permanently stop!” Dr. Reznick yelled.
Dr. Browne just giggled at her.
“Why are you laughing? Getting poked all day is NOT! FUNNY!” Dr. Reznick yelled.
“Come on, Morgan. He’s just trying to have some fun.” Dr. Browne defended with a smile on her face.
“Ha! Fun? You call “getting poked constantly” fun?” Dr. Reznick argued.
“Yes. It sounds a bit better than what he did to me. He kept playing with my hair and calling it bouncy.” Dr. Browne said.
“Well...your hair is bouncy...” Dr. Reznick muttered under her breath.
Suddenly, Dr. Melendez bursted into the room.
“I did it! I worked up the courage to throw my phone at Shaun.” Dr. Melendez cheered.
Dr. Reznick cheered with him. “Yeah! That’ll show him!”
“What?! Why the hell would you do that?” Dr. Browne asked angrily.
“He kept spamming my phone with pointless texts!” Dr. Melendez yelled.
Dr. Browne laughed at her boss’s reaction.
Soon, Dr. Andrews walked into the locker room, holding a big pile of cut zip ties. “I found out who the Zip Tie Man is.” Dr. Andrews said with a laugh. “And the scissors stealer! Don’t ever give Shawn any office scissors again. He’ll run away with them.” Dr. Andrews told them.
Dr. Melendez bursted out laughing at that. “And here I am, giving the guy a scalpel and my phone number!” Dr. Melendez reacted.
Dr. Andrews blinked in surprise. “Wait...I wasn’t the only one zip tied?” Dr. Andrews asked.
“Yes, but you weren’t the only one getting pranked or messed with.” Dr. Browne told him.
“I got poked constantly.” Dr. Reznick told him.
Dr. Melendez rolled his eyes. “I was spammed with texts.”
“And I had my hair played with. Which, it actually felt nice! He’s very gentle with people’s hair.” Dr. Browne told them.
“Hey, what if we were to treat him like the child he was?” Dr. Reznick asked. Dr. Browne didn’t like the sound of this...
“Like, payback? Okay. But how? He doesn’t think like us, so he could see the action the complete opposite from what we meant to communicate.” Dr. Melendez warned.
Dr. Reznick thought of ideas, and started to think of her almost embarassing situation earlier. This triggered an idea.
“Hey, I have an idea.” Dr. Reznick said as she walked up, before whispering the idea into Dr. Melendez’s ear.
“Why didn’t I think of that?! That’s probably the most childish revenge I can think of.” Dr. Melendez exclaimed. Dr. Reznick smirked as she looked at Dr. Browne, who looked scared out of her skin.
“What? Poking him to oblivion like he did to you?” Dr. Andrews asked.
“Nope. Tickling him.” Dr. Reznick replied.
Dr. Andrews smiled. “Oooooh! I know exactly where you should go for! Dr. Browne happened to be showing me this morning!” Dr. Andrews told them. “This is where you go:”
Dr. Andrews took the time to tell them, and ignored Dr. Browne’s protests that ‘they weren’t true’ or ‘you shouldn’t’. But Dr, Melendez and Dr. Reznick were all for getting revenge. This was gonna be so fun!
Meanwhile: Shaun soon left Dr. Glassman’s office and started heading towards the locker room. He opened the room door and walked in.
“Hello.” Shaun said.
“Hi Shaun.” Dr. Reznick said, oddly cheerful for being annoyed. Shaun noticed this.
“What are you happy about?” Shaun asked.
“Nothing.” Dr. Reznick replied. Shaun noticed many signs that said otherwise.
“You’re lying.” Shaun observed.
“No I’m not.” Dr. Reznick said in a sing-song voice. Shaun started to feel a mixture of fastination and worry. He looked over to Dr. Browne, who shrugged rather nervously. Shaun didn’t like this weird turn.
“What’s going on?” Shaun asked.
“Oh nothing.” Dr. Melendez said behind Shaun, making him jump.
“Hello...why are you two acting strange?” Shaun asked. His boss and his least favourite partner were now circling him, causing him to feel more nervous by the second.
“Oh, you’ve never seen this side of us? Kind of like how we’ve never seen your playful, mischievous side, until now?” Dr. Melendez said bluntly. Shaun started smiling a little bit.
“This is about my playful mood today. It doesn’t happen often.” Shaun admitted.
“Really? That’s good to know.” Dr. Reznick reacted.
“How?” Shaun asked as he followed Dr. Reznick.
Suddenly, Dr. Melendez pounced on Shaun, causing Shaun to fall backwards to the ground.
“I don’t like the look of this...” Shaun admited as he felt his wrists get gripped by Dr. Reznick.
“Since you’ve been acting like a child all day, we’re going to treat you like one.” Dr. Reznick said while Dr. Melendez removed Shaun’s shoes.
“I know what you’re planning. It is not good.” Shaun said, attempting to struggle. However, Dr. Reznick was stronger than her appearance led him to believe.
Before Shaun knew it, he began feeling ticklish sensations on the balls of his feet.
“Hehehe! Wait! I’m sorry! Haha! Please! Hehe! Let me go!” Shaun begged, attempting to squirm out of his trap. Dr. Browne stared wide-eyed, as Dr. Reznick and Dr. Melendez’s secret plan started.
“Wow! Not even 5 seconds in, and we’re hearing Shaun beg. We haven’t even started!” Dr. Melendez said, looking at Dr. Reznick before picking up the pace.
Dr. Andrews chuckled from his hiding spot. He was recording the whole thing on his phone.
Shaun was full-blown laughing now!
“Hahahaha! Wait! Nohoho! Hahahaha!” Shaun laughed.
“You know, Shaun, you should laugh more. You know why? Because I have never heard you laugh like this before.” Dr. Melendez explained. It was then and there that Dr. Melendez decided to start going for underneath the toes like Dr. Andrews suggested.
“Hahahaha! HA! HEY! HAHAHA!” Shaun yelled, as his laughter grew slightly louder.
“Oooh! Sweet spot!” Dr. Reznick proclaimed as she held Shaun’s wrists. Shaun was squirming even more now, and it was becoming more and more difficult to hold him still. Dr. Melendez noticed this and stopped for a moment.
“Did you wanna switch for a bit?” Dr. Melendez asked. Shaun was breathing hard.
“W-wait...no...any-anything but...that...the nails! They’re...worse.” Shaun admitted between breaths.
Those words made Dr. Reznick immediately nod. “You know what? Sure.” Dr. Reznick agreed and let go of Shaun’s wrists. They switched spots quickly, so that Shaun didn’t run away on them.
“Alright. Since Dr. Melendez had already worked on your feet, I’m gonna go somewhere different.” Dr. Reznick said as she looked for a good spot. She decided to try the top of his knees first.
“Wait! Don’t go for my knees!” Shaun said angrily, before kicking Dr. Reznick’s knees.
“Hey! Watch where you’re kicking! And for that...” Dr. Reznick warned before sitting on Shaun’s lower legs.
“Oh no...” Shaun thought out loud.
Dr. Reznick started squeezing Shaun’s knees.
“Ah! D-don’t! Gahahaha! Stahap!” Shaun yelled through his laughter.
“Aww! Is this too much? Here: Let’s see if this is better.” Dr. Reznick teased before poking at the back of Shaun’s knees.
“EEEEEEKK! NOHOHOHAHAHAHA! STAHAP! THAT’S WORSE! THAT’S WORSE!! HAHAHAHA!” Shaun screamed as he struggled to stop her fingers.
“Oh my! I think that’s a lot better!” Dr. Reznick teased.
Shaun’s mind was going crazy! All he could think about was how vulnerable and ticklish he was! Not only that, but Shaun’s hands were stuck above him, which made it impossible to stop Dr. Reznick. “COHOHOME OHON! I’M SORRY! PLEHEHEASE!” Shaun begged.
“Come on guys...He’s growing tired.” Dr. Browne tried to tell them.
But Dr. Reznick paused and checked his pulse. “Nope! He’s fine! Aren’t ya, Shaun?” Dr. Reznick teased.
Shaun had an uncontrollable smile on his face, and Dr. Andrews noticed this immediately. “Look at that man. He likes it!” Dr. Andrews reacted.
“Likes it?” Dr. Reznick asked.
“Aww, but that’s not nearly as fun…” Dr. Melendez reacted.
“Yes it is! That just makes this situation even better!” Dr. Andrews reacted. “Right Shaun?”
Shaun looked at him. “Ihi’m not tickled often. This is very fun and worth all the pranks.”
Well, didn’t that earn Shaun even more tickles!
Soon, Dr. Reznick decided to slow her fingers down, and give the boy a break. Shaun’s laughing and squirming quickly died down.
“Alright. Where should we move to next?” Dr. Renick thought aloud.
“Okay guys, I think that’s enough.” Dr. Reznick heard behind her. She turned around and her eyes locked with Dr. Park’s eyes.
“Come on, let him go.” Dr. Park ordered.
“And why should we?” Dr. Melendez asked.
“He’s exhausted, he’s sweating, he’s as red as a tomato, and he’s struggling to breath without coughing.” Dr. Park explained as he counted with his fingers. “I think he’s had enough.”
Dr. Reznick and Dr. Melendez both sighed as they let Shaun go and stood up. Shaun continued laying on the floor, gasping for air. Dr. Browne and Dr. Park walked over to Shaun to aid him.
“You okay?” Dr. Browne asked.
Shaun continued to breathe in deeply and rapidly, to ensure that he got air in his lungs sooner than later. He was letting out leftover giggles as he attempted to breath. Since he failed to talk, Shaun nodded in response.
“Holy shit! You are sweaty!” Dr. Park reacted to Shaun’s wet bangs, as they stuck to his forehead due to sweat. Shaun smiled in response and wiped his forehead. “That was fun!” Shaun declared.
Dr. Park turned around. “I- really?!” He reacted.
“Shaun likes being tickled apparently.” Dr. Melendez said.
“Huh...Looks like I have something to tease you about now.” Dr. Park decided.

Flirt With The Boss
Tumblr media
Neil Melendez x Reader imagine.
Word count: 700
Imagine that Shaun asking you what it is to flirt while you are in the hospital cafeteria and from there the story gets more and more complicated until the romantic end.
To the Masterlist.
"What's it to flirt, (Y/N)?" Shaun asked while you were eating your lunch at the cafeteria and sat down next to you.
You didn't like most of the surgeons at the hospital, they were unbearably arrogant! But Shaun was different... Shaun was excellent at his job but not arrogant, he was honest (sometimes rude). And most of all SHAUN WAS A GOOD AND LOYAL FRIEND.
"What...? Why are you asking?" You answered confused and wiped your mouth.
"I heard Claire say that to Jared in the morning, and I didn't understand why." Shaun answered and waited for my answer.
"Flirting is a gentle courtship whose purpose is usually romantic or just to annoy." You answered briefly, You were very embarrassed to have this conversation in the cafeteria.
"How do you know when people are flirting, (Y/N)?" Shaun asked. You didn't want to answer, but you saw that Shaun was so curious to know that you couldn't say "no".
"If they maintain an intimate distance when they talk, touch each other unnecessarily, teasing and provoking each other." You stopped for a second and Shaun signaled you to continue, "Look for Three key things: The pretentious giggle, the squirm and hair sweep."
After a few quiet minutes, Shaun came to a surprising conclusion for you.
"Like you and Dr. Melendez." Shaun said decisively.
"WHAT?!" You screamed... shocked.
"You two are flirting all the time." Shaun answered, very confident in what he said.
"NO! WE NOT!" You said quietly, you were afraid that someone would hear the conversation more than ever.
"Yes you are," Shsun insisted, "You even flirted yesterday."
"Me and Melendez?" You asked, "I don't think so."
"Yes you do." Shsun said, "Yesterday, in Melendez's office He told you 'you did well today, Dr Andrews won't hear about the disaster that could have happened from me' and then you squirm and Dr. Melendes giggle."
Remembering the hard day you had yesterday... That was true and you didn't really notice you were flirting with the arrogant Dr. Melendez. But you know you have to deny.
Before you could respond, a voice behind you said, "I believe the talk can wait. Your break is over."
It was Dr. Melendez... SHIT! How much of it did he hear? You couldn't say because after Melendez said those words, he went and waited for us to follow him to his office.
...........................................................................
All the day you tried to avoid Dr. Melendez. And you've managed to avoid him so far...
Dr. Melendez summoned you to his office.
You take a deep breath and go into the Melendez office.
Dr. Melendez looked at you with a look you couldn't read.
"You summoned me?" you asked if you stood in the room and Melendez got up from his chair and headed towards you.
"Yes," Melendez said, "I heard Shsun say we were flirting yesterday."
You didn't know what to say, in the end, you gained strength and you said: "Yes, but..."
"(Y/N), that's true, and it happens quite a few times... I hadn't noticed that we were until now."
You've got a red light on, Melendez always calls you by the last name, never by first name.
"yes... I didn't notice that we were flirting before Shsun told me that" you said and looked at the floor.
"Look at me, (Y/N)" Melendez asked, he was very close to you now.
You looked up, and a second later you felt the lips of Melendez kissing you a gentle and long kiss.
"It's madness..." You whispered. You smiled like a girl in love, when you looked at him, you noticed the broad smile that smiled.
"Yes it is," he agreed, "And very surprising, but it feels so right..."
"Yes it is." You agreed and smiled to the ground, you didn't know what to think.
"We can try and see what happens between us... If you want." Melendez said.
"I think it's an interesting idea..." you smiled.
"So it's okay with you that I ask you out?" Melendez asked.
"Here we are flirting again." you thought to yourself, you couldn't stop smiling happy. You didn't believe you'd feel anything for your arrogant boss.
"Not at all." you sweeped your hair, flirting again.

Home Again | Neil Melendez | The Good Doctor
Tumblr media
Prompts: (“I didn't expect to see you here.”) / (“I hate you.” “No you don’t.”)
Doctor (Y/N) (L/N) walked through the never-ending halls of St. Bonaventure Hospital looking for her fiancé, Doctor Neil Melendez. She was hoping to find him before some medical emergencies dragged him away. And for once she had been lucky. Looking through the glass door, (Y/N) saw him writing up some paperwork.
She had missed him terribly; (Y/N) had been working in the North of England. There had been a young boy who needed series of specialist and experimental surgeries and the England’s National Health Service had hired her directly to perform these surgeries as she had helped design the techniques used. But now she was back. And in desperate need of some time with her fiancé.
Slowly opening the office door, (Y/N) slipped inside the room, trying not to disturb Neil but like most of her attempts she failed, causing his full attention to be on her.
“(Y/N)? I didn't expect to see you here; what are you doing here?” Neil said, standing up to pull her into a hug, before pecking her lips as a hello. “Not that I’m not happy to see you but you weren't due back for another week.”
(Y/N) laughed. “Am I not allowed to surprise you, because surprise.”
“Well I am throughly surprised. But I have work to do, I’ll see you at-”
She cut him off with a smile, “No you don’t. I may have annoyed Dr. Glassman into giving us the weekend off. Including the rest of today.”
Neil pinched the bridge of his nose. Of course (Y/N) would go out of her way just to get him off of work, even if it meant pestering the president of the hospital into giving her what she wanted. “I hate you.”
“No you don't.”
He took (Y/N)’s hand as they left the office and began the walk down to his BMW in the carpark. “No I don't.”

Melendez x reader - It’s not jealousy
Tumblr media
hi darling, could I get a meil melendez and reader where they're secretly dating and he gets jealous because she spends so much time with Shawn (they're quite good frnds) and Shawn figures it out and everyone teases him about it?? Its totally fine if you don't want to do it, but thanks love💞💞 - @acupnoodle 💜
Leaving the changing rooms, you smiled warmly at the surgical intern in front off you.
“Hey Shaun.” You said softly.
“H..hello.” He greeted.
Shaun fiddled with his fingers, briefly looked st you then looked away. He wore a tiny smile however.
“How come you’re around here, shouldn’t you be with the others?”
“I can not find them, then I saw you come in.”
You laughed softly and headed to the nurses desk, Shaun trailed slightly behind you, watching as you took out a patient file.
“You can work with me, I’m sure Melendez won’t mind that.”
“Thank you!” He beamed.
“No problem, now let’s go, we’ve got a consult to do with a few patients, then a few surgery’s later.”
You went around doing consults, and letting Shaun help you, letting him order tests and do a few procedures.
When it was lunch time, you took him to the cafe and ordered some food.
While he went to sit with the other interns, you went over to Neil and sat at his table.
“I see you’ve picked up a stray.” He hummed.
“Oh Shaun? Yeah he was a little lost and couldn’t find anyone, he’s working under me today.”
Neil flicked his eyes up from his food before flicking them back down towards it.
“Any reason why?” He asked.
You shrugged a little, looking over towards Shaun with a little smile.
“He’s a sweet kid, and he’s really smart. I can’t really stand the other interns, I don’t like medical students you know.”
“You were once one.” He said.
“Yeah, but even then I didn’t play nice with the other students.”
You laughed a little and grinned brightly at the doctor in front off you, but Neil never smiled back which made you frown.
“Neil? What’s wrong?” You asked gently.
“Nothing, I have to go.”
With that, he left.
You were confused, but you pushed it to the back off your head so you could focus on your work.
Throughout all your shift whenever he saw you he’s avoid you and Shaun, and you started to get annoyed with it and confused.
Standing outside be Male changing room, you waited.
Shaun came out first and he stopped in front off you.
You didn’t say anything at first, and you waited patiently for him to speak, knowing that he was just taking some time to find his words.
“Thank you.”
With that, Shaun walked away.
You smiled, and when you heard the door to the changing rooms go again you turned to the door and you smiled even more.
“Hey, care for a drink?” You asked.
“Sorry, busy.”
Neil walked away and you jogged to catch up to him, waiting for the pair off you to get outside you took his hand and dragged him round the side off the hospital.
Once you guys got around the corner you let go off his hand and crosses your arms across your chest.
“Neil, what’s your problem?”
“I don’t have a prombem.”
He tried to walk around you but you stopped him.
“Are you jealous or something I spend a lot of time with Shaun?”
Neil crossed his arms across his chest as well, and turned his head towards the side.
“Of course not.”
You stared at him for a minute before small smirk started to appear on your face.
You walked up to him, placing your hand on his cheek you turned his face towards you.
“Neil you don’t have to be jealous. I love you.”
“I’m not jealous! You just... spend a lot of time with him...”
“That’s jealous my dear, pure jealousy.”
Neil rolled his eyes and quickly kissed your head, slipping under you as he headed towards the car.
“I’m not jealous!” He called.
You skipped after him, heading towards your own car.
“Alright, I’ll just ask him to come by today.”
“Hey! Don’t do that, it’s our film night.”
“I’m kidding, I’ll see you at mine.”
Giving him a warm smile, you climbed into your car and grinned, too were so gonna keep teasing him about his

Imagine: being scared of Neil because you have autism
The Good Doctor Neil Melendez x autistic! female reader
Requested: By anon Hey! Could I ask for a Neil Melendez x reader imagine where she’s just like Shaun and cause Neil treated Shaun bad she’s scared he’ll do the same to her??
Authors Note: I MISS MY BBY BOI WHY THEY GOTTA DO HIM THAT WAY. JUST LOOK AT HIM ASFDJK
Tumblr media
You knew how people reacted and treated others who had autism. You were playing with fire. You knew getting into this profession was risky business. Ever since you were young you wanted to work at a hospital as a doctor. You worked hard and got your degree and were dead set on being one of the best doctors. You wanted to prove people wrong.
Seeing Shaun becoming what you wanted gave you hope. Others maybe saw him as incapable but you saw opportunity. Opportunity for you.
But you saw how they treated Shaun. They treated him as if he was stupid at times or that he was not ready to be a doctor. You knew and you swore that people knew deep down that Shaun was more than ready.
Today was just not anybodies day. Claire was annoyed that you asked to change patients with you. Morgan was bossing you around like a b*tch. And Neil getting snappy and angry with the way you performed things and talked to patient. Did everyone woke up on the wrong side of the bed? Everyone seemed to have a stick up their butts.
“Whats wrong with everyone?” You asked Shaun as you stared at the doctors in their own little worlds. Racing around the hospital like hopping rabbits. “They’re all so...mean?” You couldn’t help it. When you were under anxiety and stress it got worse. You started to latch on to your doctor coat and flip your pen around while huffing.
Shaun noticed your movements and put a still hand on your shoulder. “Every thing is going to be okay. Sometimes people get intimidated by you especially since you have autism. Dr. Glassman tells me you are not special and that we are just ourselves. We are doctors just like them.”
You calmed yourself as you looked into Shaun’s eyes. You smiled. “Thanks Shaun. I think that was a compliment but I am unsure.” You pat his back.
“Dr. l/n I need you,” Neil wagged you over almost like a dog.
You rolled your eyes noticing he wasn’t giving you the same respect as the others. “I am not a dog you know,” you gritted.
“Right. This patient needs help. She is complaining of some discomfort in her legs.”
You stood beside the patient. She was an older woman and she was fast asleep. You checker her legs, touching all around.
“Maybe touching there should not be your first checking. We need to check her health chart to see all her health problems.”
“..okay...” you said annoyed.
“What is the first thing you do when you notice her veins like that?”
“Well I guess you would-”
“You sound unsure. Do you not remember?” Neil crossed his arms.
“Okay for one second can you please stop treating me like a child and like I’m in school again. I do know what I’m doing.”
Neil scoffed, “I’m just trying to help you.”
“No you’re not. You’ve been really rude to me lately and I don’t appreciate it. You treat me like I’m stupid and incapable of making decisions as a doctor. Well I got my degree and this job for a reason and its to save lives. I deserve the same respect as any other nurse, doctor or patient that comes strolling in. Do you understand?”
Neil was quiet and then he smirked, “you are very correct. My apologies y/n. I was just trying to make you be better because I know you can do it. I didn’t mean to disrespect you in any way. You are very smart and I know you can do this. And I think you are one of the best doctors here. I trust you with all the patients. I’m sorry for treating you this way. You don’t deserve it.”
You fixed your doctor coat and nodded, “for that I think I deserve a drink.” You walked out of the room and came straight back, “and yes, you’re paying.”
You left Neil speechless and smiling like a boy in love.

We used to be strangers | Part 3
Pairing: Tom Holland x Y/N Lincoln
Summary: Tom has just finished his latest movie and his heading back home to London. While he is passing the high building, suddenly something happens what changes his life completely. What is the shadow up there?
WARNING: Mentions of injuries, blood, depression, thinking of suicide.
..................................................................................
Tom POV:
"Uhm.. Yeah, sure. I'll be there tomorrow morning. Is everything alright?" I asked quite nervous.
"Yeah, but someone wants to meet you."
I could feel her smile when she said that. My heart started pounding.
"O-Okay. I'll be there."
"Thank you. Goodbye, Mr. Holland."
"Goodbye."
I looked at Harrison, who was looking directly at me the whole time. "What happened? Does it have anything to do with the girl you saved yesterday?"
"Yes. I think... I think she is alive. Someone wants to see me. Maybe that girl wants to thank me or I don't know."
"Oh, right maybe she can thank you another way, Hm?" Haz winked at me and chuckled.
I rolled my eyes. "Very funny, Harrison, I don't even know how she looks like. Her head was covered with blood. Why would I want to sleep with her?"
"Maybe because you are single like forever and you are like pain in the ass?! Like really Tom, just get fucking laid down already!" Harrison tried to sound annoyed but quickly he started laughing at me. I was quite shocked to hear him talking like this. Yeah, we were teasing each other all the time, even about our sex life, but Haz had never told me something like this. I wasn't mad at all. Maybe he was right.
"I know Harrison, but I've just never met a girl who would catch me like..."
"Like Anna, right? I know Tom. But... You should move on. It has been.. Almost 6 years already. It's time for you to date again, don't you think? To be happy with someone else? Seriously, Tom, my parents are starting to think we are dating. Not that there is something wrong with it, I love you, you are my best friend. But not like I would touch your pe... "
I nudged Harrison into the arm and started giggling." Alright, alright I get it Haz, stop talking about it. You're gross. "
We both were laughing for a good minute. I was happy to have Harrison. He was my best mate and supported me in everything.
After a few other games of Fifa, we went to our bedrooms saying good nights to everyone. I closed the door and jump into my bed. I was undressing myself slowly, recalling everything that had happened in the past two days. I was happy for the girl to be okay. Or at least I hoped so. I actually wondered if this girl was single. Harrison's words resonated in my head. Maybe... I should try to find someone and start to date again. I would lie if I told you I didn't miss all these things you do as a couple. But I have been single for 6 years and it wasn't that bad. I didn't feel sad and alone. I spent most of the time with my friends, I am sure that was the reason I weren't thinking about girls at all. But maybe it's time to change it. With these thoughts, I was slowly falling asleep.
The next morning I woke up very early. It was like 6 a.m. Boys were still sleeping, so I went to the kitchen quietly and made myself a tea. Couple of minutes I was only sitting there, scrolling Instagram, and drinking my tea. I liked few pictures of my fans with me. I always smile when I see all these kind words and the joy they feel when they meet me. I love my fans so much.
After I drunk my tea and my heart was almost melted, I relocated myself into bathroom to brush my teeth and to do my hair. I put on some casual clothes, took my keys from a car and went outside. Hospital was quite far from my home, so walking there would be stupid idea.On my way to hospital I stopped at the mall. I bought some croissants as a breakfast and also some flowers for the girl. I hope she will like them.I thought as I paid for the little bouquet of tulips.I didn't know what the girl liked,so I bought her a chocolate and some fruit too with the get well soon card.I put it all into my car and drove to the hospital.
Babygirl POV:
"Come here little girl, someone wants to meet you. Don't be shy, come on!"
I was slowly walking down the stairs.I was scared. My little body was shaking. My hands were holding onto staircase railings tight.
"Hey, babygirl, don't be scared. We just want to meet you." Not so young man smiled from the downstairs. I slowly came down the stairs, eyes darted to the ground. There was one of the nurses with a couple.
"These people would like to adopt you.Say hello to them. They are excited to meet you.You needn't to be scared. They won't bite, will them?" she joked and looked at them. They chuckled and nodded their heads saying no. The man knelt on his one knee to be at the same level as me.
" Hi. I am Sam. I heard a lot about you. This is Chloe. My wife. We have two kids, a boy, Matthew, who is a bit older than you. He is 8. And we also have a girl, Melanie, who is younger than you. She is only 2. They are really nice and can't wait to meet you. So what do you think..Will you come with us? "he smiled warmly and held out his hand for me. I was standing there quietly. Thinking. I wasn't ready to go with them.I would never be ready. I wanted my mommy back. Her face was still in front of me. She was crying, hugging me tightly. It felt like it was yesterday when she had abandoned me. But she didn't want to. I knew it. She said it to me.
"I love you, babygirl. You know it, right? I would never do this if I hadn't to. I want the best life for you and I can't give you that right now. I promise you, I will come for you, when the time is right."
"Mommy, I want to stay with you. We can go to Daddy. I know he loves you. And maybe me too.."
"We can't, baby. He doesn't know about you and I can't tell him. Promise me something, please. Don't be mad at me. I need to do this. I love you so, so much. You are my world. But I wouldn't be a good mum for you. I promise you, honey, I will come back for you. One day, we will meet again. Bye, my love. I love you more than Severus loves Lilly." She kissed my forehead one last time and put me into nurse's hands.
I love you more than Severus loves Lilly. I will always remember these words.
My eyes started watering and tears formed in my eyes.
" I.. Want my.. Mommy back." I cried.
Y/N POV:
"No, no, no! This can't be real. This has just not happened. Please, no. Omg! I need to..I need to go..Please..NO!"
Someone's hand woke me up from the nightmares. I tried to open my eyes, but quickly closed them again. The light in the room was so strong, it hurt my head.
"Ouch! Can you.. Can you please.. Turn off the lights. It's too strong.Please." I begged the person who held my hand. The person let go off my hand and dimmed the lights.
"How do you feel, Y/N?"A familiar voice asked me. I managed to open my eyes a bit. I saw Neil sitting next to me, holding my hand.
"N-Neil? What are you doing here? Where.." I looked around. I recognized this room. I have spent there every minute. Every day, week, month, year.. I spent there most of the time, trying to save lives of my patients and now I am lying there, as one of them.
" What has happened to me? "
" You fell off the building. One young boy saved you. What did you do there? What happened Y/N? Tell me, please. I was worried about you." He squeezed my hand. I looked at our hands and then into his eyes. He was so worried. His hands were shaking and his eyes gleamed from tears. His lips were parted and about to say something again.
" I... " I gulped.
" Dr. Melendez, we need you! There is a girl with the deep cut." Claire, the resident, urged him out of the room. I was thankful for that.I wasn't really in the mood to explain anything to him. I closed my eyes for a bit and took a deep breath. Only a few seconds after they left there was a knock on my door. I signed.
"Come in."
The young boy appeared in the door. He had  curly brown hair, hazel eyes and.. He wasn't tall at all. He was young. Probably he was less than 20. But he looked familiar. I had seen him before.
"Ehm.. Are you... Are you Y/N Lincoln?"
"Yes, that's me. And who are you, may I ask?"
"I am Tom. Tom Holland. I... Saved you, when you, when you... fell." He was so nervous. Aaw, it was kinda cute. He was a cute young boy.
"Oh, so it was you. Come in, please." I invited him.
He closed the door and came to my bed.
"Uhm.. I.. Bought you flowers. Hope you will like them."He handed me a bouquet of tulips.
My eyes lit up.
" They are for me? Oh, thank you so much. They are my favourites. They are beautiful. Thank you. " I kissed his cheek. This definitely made my day better. He blushed immediately.
" I am glad you like them. And this is also for you. Hope you feel better. Is everything alright? "
" You are so nice, thank you. And thank you for saving me. " I smiled at him. His cheeks were still red.
"You're welcome. I couldn't leave you there. I am happy that you are okay now. So... The nurse called me yesterday that someone wanted to meet me. So.. I assumed it was you. So...do you need something?" he looked at me and his eyes were running down my face, from forehead to my lips. He stopped there for a little while and then came looking back into my eyes. It was strange. It felt like I had seen these eyes before.
" Uhm.. It's nice to meet you, but... It wasn't me. I've just woken up."
A/N: Let me know what you think about this story so far and what you think about the new character - babygirl. Sorry for my English, it's not my first language and I am new with this. So I would be happy and thankful about the feedback. Have a nice day! 😊

To all my followers and melendaire shippers get ready for me to be sappy af 💕💕 I tried to keep this short but y’all know me everything ends up way too long
Not to be a dramatic bitch or anything and be that person who stops watching because of a ship but I don’t know if I can do it next season guys I really don’t.
I was getting ready to change my url to Claire Browne and make a fanvideo after the season ended because I knew we’d get more melendaire content in the finale but after this I’m just done. This show made me so happy especially with everything going on in the world today and the fact that it got taken away from just like that and I’ll be bitter about it forever sucks. The fact that all it changes now depresses tf outta me the show actually got me to be active on tumblr and now it’s over
I know it shouldn’t be about the ships but they just did the character and the fans so fucking wrong okay they really did.
So this may be one of the last posts I make myself about the show so I just really wanted to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to this fandom and these shippers. We’ve been through fucking hell and supported and each other and have been there for each other through every mishap and shared so many theories back and forth and I’ve never been that deep into a ship or fandom on here and I fucking love you all so god damn much.
Despite what the writers did to us tonight I still wanna thank the show for bringing these amazing fucking women in my life and introducing us to each other and be the first few to openly ship melendaire way back in the beginning of season 2 and starting a group chat because of it.
So to my girls:
@pinkobsessedfreak the baby and the pessimist of the chat I love you so much katie and I don’t know what I would’ve done if you hadn’t reached out to me in season 1 about melendaire and I will forever appreciate that. It felt like we were the only two at the time shipping it and to see you grow so much as well throughout high school and the chance that I got to see that means the world
@gilbxrt-blythe the optimist to my angst and who always cheered me on with my endless theories and would never leave me hanging talking about our ship. You always came in clutch with you Canadian promos 😂 and the fanfictions and have always been there for every single one of us and I love you so much Abby
@romancelvr the most levelheaded one out of all of us. You have always tried to calm us down and always gave so much wisdom and insight to the show, the ship and our lives and I will always be grateful for that. I’m going to miss your analyses of the show and how you had so much faith in things turning out okay tonight and I wish so badly you were right I love you so much sarah
@bellarke-rollercoaster you always gave Katie a run for the money about who was the pessimist 😂 but you’ve always managed to brighten up the chat with your bluntness and your humor and I love you so much for that. I’m glad to have known you and be there for you when I can and you do the same for me. I love you so mel and just you wait we’re all gonna visit you in France and annoy the shit outta of you
@jillrox202 you were the 2nd person to ever reach out to me about melendaire and we started messaging about them I was so happy to have found another friend to talk about them with. You’ve always come in clutch with the melendaire stuff happening on twitter and insta and always gave us links to the BEST fanvids and updated us on so much. If there was anything happening with melendaire you were always the first to know. I love you so much Abby and I’m so glad we became friends
@maddieandyou I know you left the chat last year but you still impacted my life and the fandom so much! I love your constant typos and you’ve always spit balled back and forth with me about theories and we could go on forever reblogging each other back and forth with new ideas and I’m gonna fucking miss that so much. You’re honestly probably the heart of this ship and brought the melendaire fandom/shippers so much closer together I love you Maddie
And to all my followers! The silent supporters and the ones who have always commented on my posts or reblogged or sent me asks, and the ones who have reached out to me when I was struggling personally, thank you so much for always making me feel welcome and being on this journey with me.
I would list you all but this post would end up so much longer then it already is but seriously I see all of you and please just know how much I love y’all.
Seriously you all have changed my life and I’m so fucking grateful for that and wish things could’ve ended better for us
Tumblr media
I’m gonna miss y’all and your love and support for my shitty and always too long reaction posts and I’m gonna miss making memes and talking about theories with you all and I’m just gonna miss melendaire and Neil Melendez 😭😭

Neil Melendez One Shots
(Continuation of One Shot #2: Jealousy)
--
But he still doesn’t look as good as Melendez, who was wearing a white button up with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows and black jeans.
“Want another drink on me?” Alex snapped you out of your thoughts and you nodded, asking for a negroni, just to make sure you didn’t get too drunk. As soon as you got your drink handed to you, you took a light sip before putting it down and facing Alex again.
“Do you have any new cases?”
“None that are interesting. Just the usual. Oh, a kid came in with a lightbulb stuck in his mouth.”
You two laughed as he described that boy and you were having a great time, up until it was ruined by a warm, fairly large hand on your lower back. At first, panic shot through you, but you relaxed when you heard Neil clear his throat.
He flattened his palm into your side before letting his hand slip off of you, his eyes never leaving Alex. They seemed to be in a staring contest, waiting for the other to back down. You decided to break the silence.
“Dr. Melendez, I’m sure you know Dr. Park,” you said sarcastically, which earned a chuckle from Alex and a strained smile from Neil, who was still staring at Alex.
”I’m just going to run to the bathroom really quick,” Alex rushed out before walking away. You frowned and looked at Neil, who was moving to the spot that was just occupied by Park.
“What the hell was that for? You scared away the guy I was about to flirt with,” you said teasingly yet half serious. He picked up on your tone and gave you a disbelieving scoff.
“You weren’t going to flirt with him. He’s not your type,” Neil grumbled, about to say more until Morgan showed up in front of you two.
“Hate to disturb the...whatever this is, but I’m heading home. Ariel said to be back to watch his comedy show,” you and Neil could both tell she was lying to get out of the bar for whatever reason, but neither of you pointed it out as she hurried away, her hands shaking.
“She’s acting-“ Neil started before being cut off by Alex. You giggled slightly at Neil’s annoyed expression and turned your focus to Alex, who was smiling at you. You smiled back and Neil shook his head angrily, which went unnoticed by Alex.
“Hey, I wanted to ask you something.”

Headcanon: Jared invented an 'Annoy Melendez Day' which is on Neil's birthday
What they do they do on 'Annoy Melendez Day'? The plans vary every year. The first time this was implemented it started with Shaun following Neil everywhere and just staring at him except his eyes (which creeps Neil out), Jared kept asking weird questions like "Are lego houses made of the flesh of the people living in it?", and Claire would keep chasing him while calling his name for no reason. At the end of the day, Neil preparing to go home with a migraine, the three residents gather in his office with a box of cupcakes and candles and sing happy birthday
Neil wouldn't admit it but he loves Annoy Melendez Day (or his birthday in short). Yes it usually ends with him having a killer migraine but he knew his residents mean well and their gestures are warm. The annoy part just makes the ending alot better and sweeter

Neil Melendez One Shot
(Continuation of One Shot #2: Jealousy)
--
You sipped at the beer bottle that you were holding by the neck and you swallowed, savouring the taste you thought you had forgotten. You usually weren’t one for beer, so this is was a rare occasion.
“Hey,” Alex’s voice came from beside you. You met his eyes and gave him a little wave. Morgan was talking to Neil and you knew Neil’s eyes were on you the second he saw Alex look in your direction, let alone walk there.
“How’s that one case going? The guy with the messed up bowel?”
“Not bad, just weird. MRI scans didn’t show anything so we might have to go digging around. Still getting the procedure approved by Aoki and Andrews.”
He nodded and took a swig of his own beer before sliding into the seat next to you. He rested his forearms on the counter and ordered another beer. You declined when he offered you one, just because the taste was becoming bitter to you.
“You look good tonight,” Alex tried before smiling at the blush that settled on your cheeks. He moved a bit closer to you and leaned in so you could hear him and he could hear you over the loud music and chatter.
“You look good, too,” you weren’t about to lie to him. The truth is, he did look good. Really good. He was wearing a black collarless button up with simple blue jeans and black sneakers, but damn he could pull the look off.

Blackout in the Blizzard
Happy Melendaire Monday everyone!
As promised here is your fix of this first week without any TGD episode! Feedback are welcome as much as kudos 😁. Hope you'll enjoy it ❤️
Here is the prompt :
Claire Browne and Neil Melendez find themselves stuck in the elevator of the hospital on their way out because of a storm that cuts the power. Neil then addresses Claire's strange reaction earlier in the day when she discovered that Neil and Lim were dating outside the hospital.
READY ?
You can also go on AO3 to read by the way!
Tumblr media
San Jose was hit by a Category Three snow storm and, as any storm of that magnitude would, it did a lot of damage. Claire's shift was extended by six hours as a result of the extra patients and the lack of employees due to the time of the year
During this same shift Claire had learned that her superior, Dr. Neil Melendez, was apparently sharing more than a professional relationship with her other superior, Dr. Audrey Lim.
Dr. Browne had tried not to have any reaction to this news, but deep down this information annoyed her although she didn't quite understand why. She couldn’t help but wonder what Melendez saw in her. It wasn't that Dr. Lim wasn’t great, it was that she just couldn't picture them together. It didn’t make any sense to her. This thought was interrupted when the doors of the elevator opened to reveal none other than Dr. Neil Melendez himself.
She flashed him a friendly smile as she walked in, reaching for her intended floor button but stopped as it was already lit: his shift was apparently over too as they were going to the same level. She was about to open her mouth to break the silence when the elevator made a sudden jerk and stopped dead, leaving them both in a cabin half-lit by security lights.
As if her day wasn’t crappy enough, she had to get stuck in an elevator with her boss with whom she didn't particularly wanted to spend time with. Fate was apparently angry at her. Melendez tried to be reassuring, "the emergency generators shouldn’t take long to take over, with a storm like this, a power cut was predictable.”
“Yes, even if this power outage could have occurred after I left the hospital. It would have been nice to have some luck for once. You know, getting stuck in an elevator wasn’t really on my bucket list, nor my to do list of the day–”
“Especially with the most boring person in the world?” Neil gave a frank laugh at the decomposed expression of his resident, but his remark didn’t have the desired effect since Claire frowned a little more:
"It's not really the word I would have chosen to describe you, nor the way I was going to finish that sentence. It's just that this shift has been long and I would prefer to go home and collapse on my bed after a long warm shower. But you're right, the backup generators should start soon; what else could go wrong, right?"
Unfortunately, the power wasn’t restored five minutes later, nor twenty minutes later. It has now been half an hour since they were originally stranded in the hospital elevator cabin. Neil had been the first to sit down after realizing their phones had no signal and they couldn’t tell anyone about their situation. It had taken Claire a few extra minutes to sit by his side. The only benefit to this situation was that hospital elevators were wider than conventional lifts, leaving them more room to comfortably extend their legs, even though Claire had chosen to pull her knees to her chest.
Since they had exchanged banalities about the patients they had treated a little more than ten minutes ago, a silence had settled. But this silence was strangely uncomfortable. Claire didn’t know what to say without indirectly talking about the burning piece of information the residents had found out concerning the two attendings; so she opted for silence, keeping it quiet was better than saying something she would regret. But Neil decided otherwise.
“I guess the whole hospital knows by now.” Claire wasn’t sure what he was talking about
“About what? Us being stuck in the elevator? I strongly doubt it.”
“No, I was talking about–”
Now she knew what he meant so she cut him off, “About you and Dr. Lim? Probably, although it's none of my business.”
Neil gave her a weird look. "You don’t approve, do you?"
Claire looked up at the ceiling, trying to find a way to put an end to this conversation because the last person she wanted to have this with was him, especially in a confined space where she couldn't leave. "Like I told you, this is none of my business. You sleep with whoever you want.”
Neil glanced at her, a strange expression on his features. "It's funny, I could have sworn the opposite from the expression on your face earlier today. Claire, you can express yourself freely: we are stuck in an elevator, so right now I’m a normal person, not your boss. I will not blame you for your opinion since I’m the one who asked for it. Let's say this space is a neutral zone, okay?"
Claire hesitated for a few seconds, he wasn’t going to let it go if she was truthful, so she went for the easiest way out: lying. "Fair enough. It’s not that I don’t approve of it, it just reminded me of my relationship with Jared. We were two colleagues who were a little more than that. People knew at the hospital and you may not know but that's what made Dr. Coyle think that I was an easy target to hit on. It's what started the whole incident that followed; it complicated things between me and Jared and so he left. Not entirely because of me, but partly I think. Since this, I tell myself that it’s better to stay professional and to not mix private and professional life with my colleagues or superiors."
What she said wasn’t entirely false; the story was true, it was just not relevant to Dr. Melendez's request.
“I didn’t know that your relationship with Jared had been a factor in the incident with Dr. Coyle. I am sorry to hear that.” Neil nodded.
Claire smiled shyly, slightly ashamed of having lied.
“It's not your fault if Dr. Coyle thought that because I had a relationship with a member of the medical team, I'd be willing to sleep with anyone on the staff at the hospital.” She laughed
“No, indeed.” Neil chuckled.
Claire was relieved: the bullet was dodged. She wondered why she felt the need to lie or why she was embarrassed by the situation. She knew that the story she had just told was not the reason she was upset by the fact that Neil was sleeping with Lim. Lying to herself and others, though, had always been easier than facing her own emotions and feelings. Emotions and feelings were always leading her toward disappointment.
Neil noticed the closed expression on Claire's face, which was the same he had seen earlier. "Dr. Browne, are you okay?”
Claire pulled herself together and turned her head to look her superior in the eyes, "Yes, of course. I’m just starting to wonder when we are going to get out of here. It must have been an hour now, the power should be back. It's weird.” She suddenly stood up, feeling uncomfortable by their proximity. She needed to put some distance between them, so she started looking at the buttons on the elevator like they were the most interesting thing on earth.
“Not as weird as the expression on your face. It tells me you’re obviously annoyed by something, like it was earlier today. What is it you’re not telling me?” Neil had gotten up too.
Claire pretended not to hear. “Unbelievable! Even the emergency button won't work.”
“When you’re done avoiding the subject, maybe you’ll be able to answer my question?” Neil was growing annoyed by her avoidance. Claire pretended not to understand. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’m not avoiding anything. Is the lack of space making you lose your mind or something?” She was growing less and less comfortable by the situation.
Neil raised an arm in the air, clearly exasperated. “I think you know very well what I'm talking about.”
“No, as a matter of fact, I don’t,” she said, crossing her arms over her chest. Neil shot her a meaningful look.
“Why are you so stubborn?” he retorted.
“Stubborn, me? That’s rich coming from the most stubborn person in this hospital; not to mention most annoying and endowed with an oversized ego!”
Claire realised she might have gone too far, placing a hand over her mouth in surprise. “I'm sorry, that's not what I meant–”
Neil cut her off abruptly: “No, don’t be sorry, a little honesty is refreshing! And since we’re being honest with each other, why don’t you give me your real opinion about my relationship with Dr. Lim.”
“I've already given it to you, I have nothing else to say. Anyways, why is it so important to you what I think about your relationships? And while we're being honest, why did you really kick me off your team? Was it because your ego couldn’t stand that a woman had a better idea about how to treat a patient? Or was it just pure stupidity? Because, thinking about it, last year Shaun was convinced he could save a young boy’s life and was ready to take a bone marrow sample on the patient to prove it, against your orders. When you found out, you simply kicked him off the case. But you didn’t kick him off your team. So, why did you try so hard to have me out of your’s for good?”
Neil was taken aback by her outburst: he definitely hadn’t seen coming. “It doesn’t matter, Shaun was– You’re changing the subject. Why does Dr. Lim and I seeing each other bother you?”
Claire raised both arms in the air, far beyond exasperated. “You are unbelievable! For the thousandth time: I don’t give a shit about your relationship with Dr. Lim. Do you really think that you are so interesting that everyone has to validate you and be on the lookout for the smallest of facts about you and your whereabouts?”
“I don't think that–”
“Bullshit! Why do you care so much about what I think about you being involved with her?”
“Because I think you lied to me about the real reason why you disapprove of it so much!”
Without realizing it, they had drawn close to each other, standing only inches apart. It was as if they were magnets, attracting each other to be as close as possible.
Claire asked sharply, “why would I need to lie to you?”
Neil looked at her intently and finally gave in. “For the same reason I had to lie to you about why I kept you away from my team for as long as I could.” His voice was so intense that Claire had goosebumps. Her gaze was unconsciously passing between Neil's beautiful dark eyes and his lips. The tension between them was tangible. Gathering what was left of her boldness, she asked him in a voice less assured than she would have wanted, "And what is the reason, Doctor Mel–"
Neil didn’t let her finish her sentence before his lips crashed on hers. The violence of the kiss pushed her against the wall of the elevator. Neil pressed his body against hers while Claire held tight onto his neck, allowing herself to be completely carried away by the feeling. And that's when she realized what she had refused to admit for months: the undeniable attraction she felt for the arrogant and annoying Neil Melendez.
Neil slid one of his hands from her face to her waist, touching the side of her breast. His hand passed smoothly over her back bringing her as close to him as possible. His lips left hers and went for her neckline, murmuring her name in a voice full of the desire he had been refusing himself for so long.
He often made bad decisions, and the decision to give in to his urge would surely prove to be the worst of them. But right now, he would not trade that moment for anything in the world. So he went back to her plump lips, kissing her like their lives depended on it: and in that moment, maybe it did.
The passionate embrace abruptly ended when the lights of the elevator came back on and the lift resumed its way to the ground floor. Neil and Claire parted breathlessly, not quite sure what had just happened. Neil looked at Claire, his gaze full of multitudes of emotions passing through too quickly for her to understand them fully. The elevator stopped. The doors opened. He stroked her cheek gently and huskily said, “That's the reason why Claire.”
A second later, Neil pulled back and left the elevator, leaving Claire stunned and touching her lips absentmindedly. She was unsure of what just happened or what it meant; but one thing was sure: this experience would not leave her mind for a long time.

My first fanfic is a melendaire
Hi, I am French, my English is poor, so I hope there are not many faults in this text. I’m new to Tumblr so I don’t yet master the app. I hope you will be pleased with this text, and I welcome your comments.
Chap1
The episode of the illness that plunged the quarantine service had somewhat disrupted every staff member. If, according to Shaun's statistics, one and the same event will not be repeated in St José for fifteen years, the faces of the doctors were badged of the anxiety recently undergone.
Neil Melendez paced  the corridors this  Thursday of February. The sky was white outside and he thought quickly that a weekend in the country would be beneficial. He was tired of the past year and sometimes pretending. If his arrogance allowed him to assert his authority in his career he had little opportunity to show his sensitivity. Since his forties he was tormented by his present life. His relationship with Lim was simple, a strong friendship with a few nights of drinking. However, he felt empty, something was out of place.
When he saw his interns he cast out  his thoughts out. Park seemed happy to him since his son was more present with him, Morgan faithful to herself stood straight and haughty on the lookout for surgery that could propel her directly resident, Shaun and Claire were talking together. Claires's curls came off in a cascade on his blue blouse and for a split second Neil was caught in this contemplation. The last operation he had led with Claire was a success and the young woman kept to surprise him. Sensitive, communicative, gifted, she was an excellent student and would become a great surgeon. He knew it. The smile Claire give  him to brought him back to reality.
"- Hello everybody, this morning we have a case of hypoplasia of the left heart on a child of 11 years, Murphy you can tell us more?"
- It is a malformation of the left ventricle, the whole right part of the heart must compensate: eject the blood to the pulmonary artery but also to the aorta .. Normally it is detected by pre-natal electrocardiography. It is necessary to repair the aorta too small.
- Exactly. Park and Murphy you will be with me on this case. Reiznik Dr. Lim needs you in the E.R. Browne, the dermatology department asked to see one of us. Take the file and give me the situation .
Morgan protested with a glare. Claire was disconcerted by this distance. Only Park and Shaun seemed delighted with their fate.
Claire arrived at the dermatology department when the doctor Syrus, an accomplished dermatologist came to meet her:
- "Ah finally it is you the  intern that we are sent to us , it falls well, come see by there in my opinion this case isn't up to than my sole responsibility anymore , at these words he quickly entered a consultation room whose windows were tinted and hurried to close the door behind them.
"Oh," Claire exclaimed in front of the patient, "Excuse me,said she, Hello, I'm Dr. Browne, I'm an intern in surgery, and I'm here because Dr. Syrus thinks that together we can help you.
The patient, a 35-year-old man was visibly contaminated with lewandowsky-lux disease. His body was completely covered with bark-like warts, forming outgrowth on all his limbs. His hands and torso were no longer distinguishable and his head leaned back, pulled by the weight of the root skin. His eyes were still visible, but he spoke with difficulty.
"- Obluo is Filipino, his disease has developed there, in his village he is considered a sage because he heals, sees the future, administers the village. This is an OnG who helped to bring him to the United States hoping it can be cared by doctors, explained Syrus. The radios show extensive skin carcinoma and multivisceral failure. This is no longer a matter of dermatology it requires a heavy surgery to find the epidermisThere may lesions deep downs that need to be treated.
Claire looked at the man with difficulty.
The man seemed to smile at Claire.
"Obluo," she said, "I'm going to get other doctors and all together we'll try to solve your problem." She was aware that the man did not understand, but his benevolence forced her to explain.
"Dr. Syrus, I'll tell to  Dr. Melendez.
She found Neil at his office surrounded by Shaun and Park, discussing the best way to intervene on cardiac hypoplasia. On seeing her, he said happily, "Ah, Dr. Browne, so this dermatology why does she need us?
- Uh a verruciform Epidermodysplasia on a 35 year old man ..
- A what ? Asked Park.
"The tree man," said Melendez, "dont you know that means?
- It's genetic, interrupted Shaun and incurable. There are only 200 cases worldwide.
"Well, what do you think Dr. Browne?" asked Melendez .
-In the current state of things it is necessary to release the limbs in causing internal lesions in order to relieve the vital organs.
- Well now let's see if we can get a better particulars  . Murphy, Park prepare our patient for the intervention I'll join you after.
Claire and Neil  encountered Syrus, scowling,  that annonced  them bad news:
"the carcinomas have reached the pancreas, the liver and the weight of the warts compress the circulation including that of the encephalon. The operation is very risky, the chances of success guarantee it only temporary comfort but if we do not operate it will die in a few months of  multiple internal injuries. And an interpreter arrived.
After greeting the interpreter and explain to him the situation Melendez osculta Oblua.
Oblua was smiled alternately at Claire and Neil while listening to the interpreter  who explained the operation. The man laughed and asked questions: the interpreter answered them, then Oblua said something and the interpreter laughed.
"- What's he saying ?" Asked Melendez
"-He says you are one and the same heart that does not know it yet.
Claire's eyes met Neil's amused gaze.
"-It is very enigmatic all this, it can mean everything, it's thruth  I operates hearts!
The interpreter translates to Oblua, who frowned and shook his head laughing louder.
"-He says dawn will rise in your mind.
"-Well," said Melendez, "we're done with preoperative consultation, Oblua, me, and my mind we'll see you in a few hours."
Melendez had  leave Claire with the" tree human" and was heading to the block for heart surgery. He was troubled by the words of the man. The man must have been  learn that he was a cardiac surgeon, which was probably the content of the message. And then after all who did not need more light in his mind?
He thought furtively about Claire's curls and their exchanged gaze but decided that none of this had any logical explanation and that he was really too tired.
Claire was also thinking of the man's words. He seemed wise, benevolent, "One heart." To believe the rumor the heart of Neil was taken again. She must have been lucid: that annoyed her a little. Yet their looks remained unchanged: intense and talkative. He had to looked at all his colleagues like that ..
The cardiac operation was a total failure. The heart was not strong enough, the child had other organic disorders. Hours of complications and urgency to keep the child alive had only succeeded in plunging him into a coma. The parents were collapsed.Shaun placidly announced that the child would die while Park was affectedd by the patient who was the same age as his son .He  was searching for a cure.
Melendez  looked at hell  when he entered the No. 2 block. Obluo was not yet anesthetized and  was smiling at the sight of Neil and Claire standing side by side:
"-You know," he said to Melendez, "for the child: his spirit is free, he's going to leave now" and Obluo fell asleep.
Claire saw the surprise on Neil's face.
The operation lasted more than 15 hours, it was necessary to cut sometimes with the saw the hard skins of the body of the man to clear his body of his tree prison. When they had finished, the man's constancies were normal.
All the staff was exhausted.
When he woke up, the patient was calm and thanked each of the doctors standing on either side of his bed. Obluo squeezed Claire's hand in a respectful gesture and grabbed Melendez's wrist for talk him.
-"He left " .
Claire watched with concern as Melendez slowly emerged from the man's embrace and out of the room. He was nauseated.
It was then that Shaun came to announce the death of the child.
Neil had decided to send his interns home. All were tired. It was past 6 a.m
Neil left his blouse, he was hot and needed to get fresh air immediately.
The end of the night was cooling  on the terrace of the refectory. The first thing he saw was the brown curls. He settled down next to Claire.
"I learned for your patient,"  said she , "I'm sorry.
- Yes, the day was difficult. But you worked well, Obluo is alive.
- The disease will come back but he does not seem to be worried.
- Some things always come back. Thoughts, obstacles. Things that turn ... in a loop. He said that last sentence in a low voice.
"It may be a good thing," said Claire. It may mean that happiness, joy, love come back too.
Neil looked at her. It seemed to her that Claire's eyes were an answer to everything that was flickering in her thoughts. Claire smiled at him, returning that deep and immense look.
It had begun to rain and a drop was spinning on a lock of Claire's hair.
Neil stared at the drop and ran her hand over the curl. Mechanically he put the lock the hair behind Claire's ear. Her eyes plunged again in Claire's. He feld over into it. He slipped his hand from his ear to his temple, his thumb traveling over his cheekbones. His second hand came to join Claire's neck. Nobody said words. Each look was an endless fire. He framed his face with his hands as if to contemplate it better. Claire's mouth was smiling. She touched Neil's hip with her palm and her forehead swung against Neil's. He caressed of his lips  Claire's lips before kissing them. The attraction of kissing was so strong  that it was impossible for them to stop pressing their lips against each other, from his mouth Neil gently took Claire's lower lip to taste it entirely and she did the same with his . Her fingers were lost in her hair and Claire let her fingers run down Neil's neck to his chest.
The ground was falling under their feet.
They were felt the axis of the earth was where it should be.
They ruled out from each other.
Their eyes betrayed the gigantic confusion  that came to reveal themselves. They panted for a moment, their breath caught in the embrace, looking at each other in amazement. Neil picked up his briefcase, straightened up as the sun illuminated Claire's curls and the mirror of her eyes. Upset with desires, he stared at her intently in the morning light and stepped out of the terrace.
Dawn had  risen.

Dedicated to @radpeacharbiter , sorry for the long wait honey! Hope you enjoy this!
Original Prompts:
43: Don’t look at me in that tone of voice
47: My turn ons? Well I don’t know, maybe some fucking common sense
Added Prompts:
24: A - If you ever feel stupid, or weak, or powerless, just remember that I, am not. B - Thanks. A - You’re welcome.
37: Today I’m feeling cloudy with a chance of sarcastic.
46: You know, having feelings is ruining my reputation of being a heartless bitch.
In which the reader is a sarcastic little shit aka one of the residents at St. Bonaventure and has recently started a relationship with Melendez.
Warnings ⚠️: cursing
Tumblr media
Claire was by your side as soon as you walked into the hospital lobby. You merely glanced at her and resumed the familiar path to the locker rooms, knowing your best friend wouldn’t be bothered by the lack of greetings.
“So?” Claire prompted, eyes wide as she watched you put down your bag and enter the code to your personal locker. “How did it go?”
You started humming, intent on ignoring her. Your voice was the only sound in the otherwise silent room. As expected, Claire’s impatient foot tapping quickly stated its presence.
“Okaaaay, let’s start over.” She moved closer to you and put both of her hands on your shoulders, forcing you to turn around and face her. “How are we feeling today?
“Today I’m feeling cloudy with a chance of sarcastic.” You didn’t miss a beat, blinking innocently.
Claire gave you an unimpressed look and smacked her lips together, expressing her silent disapproval. However, you weren’t affected in the slightest and turned back to your locker.
‘So damn predictable’, you thought to yourself, barely refraining yourself from shaking your head as Claire left but was back in a few seconds, Carly trailing behind her.
“Tell us!” Carly snapped once she reached your side. You chuckled, a Cheshire grin fixed on your lips.
“Ugh, you’re impossible Y/N.” Claire growled under her breath. “We know about you.”
You dropped the grin, sighing exasperatedly at your friend. “Who’s your source?”
“You.” Carly deadpanned, shoving her phone into your hands, screen unlocked. “And your Instagram account. Drunk you should really stop posting half naked pictures of your boss.”
Claire’s annoyed façade crumbled as she let out a giggle, unable to contain herself as she saw you facepalming.
“You and Dr. Melendez, huh?” Claire smirked, her voice rising in a suggestive manner as she exchanged a look with Carly.
“Don’t look at me in that tone of voice, Claire Antonia Browne,” you rolled your eyes. You really should get her a boyfriend so she would stop being so interested in your love life.
“C’mon Y/N. Give us some juice.” Carly whined, her eyes lightning up with a familiar glint. “First there was Dr. Hsiao, then Dr. Solomon and now Dr. Melendez. Is that your type? Doctors? Arrogant doctors? Tattooed doctors? Are those your turn ons? The tattoos?” The receptionist leaned forward, face just a few inches away from your own, mischief sparkling in her dark orbs.
You took a step back, folding your arms across your chest.
“My turn ons? Well I don’t know, maybe some fucking common sense. Go back to work Carly, your shift started half an hour ago.” You snapped at her. Seriously, what was up with all these nosy females who claimed to be her best friends?
“No need to be so defensive sweetheart.” Carly raised her hands in a gest of surrender, smirking at you.
“Better leave her alone.” Claire shared a satisfied smile with their curly haired friend. “We already got all the answers we needed.”
“Which were none!” You yelled at their backs, watching them skipping happily out of the locker room.
As you turned around, you were faced with a smirking Dr. Lim and Dr. Andrews. Choosing to ignore the knowing looks the two women sported, you quickly made your way down to the ER.
***
Later, you were cuddling with Neil on his couch, rewatching Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them.
“Ready to talk now?” Neil rubbed your back as the credits rolled on the TV screen.
“You know, having feelings is ruining my reputation of being a heartless bitch.” You told him, staring pensively into the now black screen.
“Your reputation? What about mine? I’m supposed to be the dickhead who’s not even a proper human being,” he shook his head, a smile dancing on his lips as you shifted your gaze to him.
“Yeah, I don’t really care about yours,” you shrugged, shooting him a pointed look, “just feeling sad for myself, now I have to start caring for people.”
Neil sat up straighter on the couch, letting you slide off him, “If you ever feel stupid, or weak, or powerless, just remember that I, am not,” he gave you a cheeky wink.
“Jeez, thanks, bae,” you tilted your head and grinned at him, feeling as if you could burst with joy at the familiar banter.
“You’re welcome,” Neil bopped your nose and pecked you on the lips.
“Are we just a couple of jerks who are attracted to each other?” You asked him, snuggling closer to his larger frame as Neil draped an extra blanket around you.
“I believe you mean we are a couple of attractives who are jerked to each other.” Neil laughed, nuzzling your neck.
“You’re such an idiot.” You giggled, tracing patterns on his bare chest with your fingertips.
“At least I’m your idiot.” Neil kissed the crown of your head. “Go to sleep now, beautiful.” He mumbled, closing his eyes.
“My idiot.” You whispered in the dark, feeling comforted and safe in his arms.

Could you do Shaun and Melendez?
Who is more likely to hurt the other? - Melendez is more likely to hurt Shaun, most of the time. It’s not a secret that he tries to come off as more stoic than he really is. Shaun’s very sensitive and easily upset, so sometimes that edge can injure him and cause misunderstandings. Neil gets better and better about handling that, the longer they date, though.
Who is emotionally stronger? - Melendez is definitely the stronger of the two, he’s the rock in the relationship. He hardly ever lets his emotions get the better of him, and he’s very aware of Shaun’s emotional state at the same time. The very second it becomes apparent something is bothering Shaun, he’s rushing to be there for him.
Who is physically stronger? - Again, that’d be Melendez. He can’t be beat on strength; he’s twice as strong as Shaun is. He can pick his resident up no problem, but he hardly ever does because Shaun hates it so much.
Who is more likely to break a bone? - Neither of them are careless enough to break a bone. But in terms of who is more likely in theory, it’d be Melendez. On the rare days he isn’t working, he likes to hike or ride his bike, or one day he went rock climbing. Therefore technically, he’s the one who’s more likely.
Who knows best what to say to upset the other? - They’re both pretty neck-in-neck. When Neil feels hurt or upset he usually covers it up with anger and tends to lash out more. But Shaun can end up saying things that cross the line, too. He’s not afraid to call Neil out when he does something wrong, or push the right buttons.
Who is most likely to apologize first after an argument? - Melendez is definitely the first to rush for an apology. He tries to make himself seem aloof and stubborn in a fight, but the very second it’s over, practically, he’s already regretting whatever it was he said, and he’s scrambling to make it right again. Fortunately for him, though, Shaun is always just as quick to forgive as he is to make amends.
Who treats who’s wounds more often? - Melendez is fussy when it comes to Shaun, even though he always denies it when Shaun accuses him of worrying. Shaun usually dismisses things like bruises or scratches, because he’s so used to having them. Neil hears none of it, though, and even if it’s just a nick, he’s always putting a band-aid over it and telling him to be careful.
Who is in constant need of comfort? - Shaun is usually the one who needs more comfort. He tends to doubt himself a lot in relationships, and he’s not very good at hiding his anxiety or self-consciousness. Neil has gotten skilled at reassuring him over time. And that comfort kind of leaks into work, too, when there are harder situations to deal with, or when they have a patient that looks down on him. Neil is much more aware and concerned of Shaun’s emotional state than he was before.
Who gets more jealous? - Melendez is prone to jealousy. He’s got no reason to be, of course. But the nurses at Saint Bonaventure tend to fawn over Shaun, and it irritates him because 1) Shaun doesn’t need to be cooed over, and it’s a little insulting just as it is and 2) they always pour all their attention on him, and though he would never admit it to any living soul, it can make Melendez pretty envious.
Who’s most likely to walk out on the other? - Shaun is more likely to walk out on Melendez. Shaun can be very ‘fight or flight’ and his go-to is usually flight, most of the time. If something in their relationship is going wrong, if he feels like he’s not good enough/did something bad, or if he feels like Melendez is going to leave him, he’ll run away from the issue rather than solve it. This has actually happened once— they got into a fight and Melendez turned around to see that he was just gone. He had to track him down and tell him everything was fine; Shaun was so upset he was wanting to cut it all off, just because he thought it was the only option. Nothing major like that has happened since, but the threat is still there in the back of Neil’s mind. It’s his worst nightmare, to have Shaun run away again.
Who will propose? - Neil is the one to get down on one knee. It won’t be for a while; they will have dated for at least a couple years beforehand. It’ll come out of the blue, too. It’ll surprise Shaun so much, that when Melendez does get down and ask, he’ll just stare at him blankly for about a full minute in complete silence. Of course, after that, he’ll be over the moon and say yes, but up until that point, it will have been rather awkward.
Who has the most difficult parents? - Shaun. When he opened up to Neil finally, and told him about his dad, it isn’t an exaggeration at all to say that Neil saw red. Every time he even thinks of Ethan Murphy, his blood starts to boil. Heaven help that man if they ever meet— Melendez will probably have to be restrained.
Who initiates hand-holding when they’re out in public? - They don’t really hold hands when they go out together! They walk very close together, with their shoulders brushing, but they don’t hold hands. Not that it’s a problem at all, it’s just what naturally occurs.
Who hogs the blankets? - Shaun is a monster when it comes to taking all the blankets. He gets cold super easy, so sometimes Neil wakes up and Shaun’s so rolled up in them on the other side of the bed that he’s morphed into a burrito. Sometimes Neil tries to be angry and wake him up. But the second Shaun opens his eyes and peeks out, half-asleep, he never has the heart to. He usually just gives up and finds another blanket to use.
Who gets more sad? - Unfortunately, Shaun is usually the one that gets sad. He tries not to, and he usually stays pretty optimistic most of the time (Neil pretends it’s annoying but he really thinks it’s endearing). But sometimes things build up on him, and there are lapses where he gets sullen and quiet. These episodes bothered Neil at first, but now he knows that Shaun just needs some quiet and a blanket and maybe some tea, and some time to calm down. He always weathers it with him, if Shaun wants him there.
Who is better at cheering the other up? - Shaun, all the way. It’s almost impossible for Melendez to stay upset or frustrated when he’s with Shaun. Maybe it’s the fact his jokes are so bad and so stupid. Maybe it’s the way his eyes light up when he smiles, trying to encourage Melendez to do the same since smiles are ‘contagious’. Whichever one it is, it’s usually pretty easy for Shaun to get him grinning again.
Who’s the one that playfully slaps the other all the time after they make silly jokes? - Neither of them really do that. But something Shaun always does that Melendez adores is he ducks away whenever he says something silly or cute to him. Neil doesn’t make a habit out of it, but when he does say something like “You’re completely adorable” Shaun always clams up and gets flustered and ducks behind him. Sometimes he even mumbles an embarrassed little “Stop it” which makes Melendez laugh even harder.
Who is more streetwise? - Melendez is more streetwise. Shaun’s pretty out of the loop when it comes to street smarts— some things for him are trial and error. Neil knows that and he’s much more patient with him than he was before they were dating. He always answers Shaun’s questions without hesitation or irritation.
Who is more wise? - Shaun is wiser than Melendez is, and Melendez knows that. Really, from the first day they met, Shaun has been wiser (“Does it hurt you as a person?”). Neil always listens to him, and takes his words to heart. Shaun’s made him a better person, and he’s grateful to him every day for that.
Who’s the shyest? - Shaun is super shy, especially when they’re out in public. Not that they have a lot of public displays of affection— he doesn’t even need that. Neil could just smile at him, and Shaun would start grinning huge and ducking away and giggling. Melendez thinks he’s completely adorable when he does it. So naturally, it happens a lot.
Who boasts about the other more? - It’s a toss-up. Shaun already boasted about how good a surgeon Melendez was even before they started dating, and how much he had to learn from him. It’s just more frequent now that they’re together. At the same time, Melendez is much more outspoken on his talented resident who has saved so many lives. Of course, he never plays favorites, though. Ever. That would be silly. And unfair. No favorites at all.
Who sits on who’s lap? - Shaun sits on Melendez’s lap. Mostly it’s when they’re watching movies or TV, and they never start out that way. But somehow the evening always ends with him on Neil’s lap and his head on his chest, tucked underneath his chin. It’s one of his favorite spots to be; he fell asleep like that, one time.
