had the question in my head
for those who have never heard the term before: hearing fatigue refers to the exhaustion that deaf and hard of hearing people experience when hearing for extended periods of time. hearing fatigue makes it harder to understand sound and can make it feel physically painful to try to understand speech.

Trying to decide if I blast this email all over my local Facebook page. I have asked them about captioning devices in person, over the phone, and through Facebook previously. Not to mention the obvious "I have a disability and this works for me so it should work for you."

[Edit: I no longer stand by this post. You can look at my later comments on it here to see why.]
What the hell is it with some hearing people with auditory processing disorder claiming that it makes them deaf/HoH?
I mean the issues with that idea seem so obvious on its face that no one should be able to make this mistake, or at least should be able to see the error once it has been pointed out.
You can be both but having auditory processing disorder in no way makes you deaf/HoH.
Trust me, I know that audio processing disorder is a disability, but that does not make that claim any less ableist.
I would like to think that none of these people have ever interacted with a deaf/HoH person, but I know better than to think that.

This is nowhere near the only example but it's the most recent screenshot I have so I'm using it. I am not able to watch this video yet so this may not apply to this specific video but it definitely applies to others.
Scheduled videos/video premieres are so inaccessible. I've yet to ever experience one with accurate captions. Let only a portion of human beings watch the premiere right? Exclusion is seriously not okay.

yk something i dont hear about a lot is the exhaustion that comes with being hard of hearing. like. the more tired i am the harder it is for me to hear you. and the harder it is for me to hear you the more energy i use to try to hear you. and that makes me very tired. which leads to it being hard for me to hear you. which lea

I am begging content creators esp educational content creators - please use captions. Yes, I can hear, but I am HOH (hard of hearing) with ADP (auditory processing disorder). & as lovely as most of your voices are, it's easier for me to watch the subtitles than listen to you. But having captions is invaluable to everyone esp to those who can't hear at all.

It's bad enough when perfect hearing people get frustrated at the audacity of me asking to repeat themselves, it's quite another when they repeat what I didn't hear in a slow, condescending tone, as though you're too stupid to have understood the first time around.
Like bitch I understand the letters and words you're saying WHEN. I. CAN. HEAR. THEM.

Sure your video has subtitles but does it also have graphics that pop up in the lower third so I can't read them without toggling the subtitles off? If so, hear me out, quit it.

Shoutout to all deaf/hoh peoples who also have sound sensitivity or wear ear defenders!
I may be hoh + have an audio processing disorder, but this can quite frankly add to my sound sensitivities sometimes, so I wear ear defenders whenever I need them!

Smosh Pit - May 1, 2025
I went to watch the newest Smosh Pit video because the past 3 or 4 videos I've been able to watch with correct, not auto-generated captions.
This one ("Battling For The Best Easter Candy"), however, still has auto-generated captions meaning I can’t watch, understand, and enjoy it.
Inconsistency is still exclusion. This is not okay.
