At some point I'll have to decide what petname would Mr Ominis Gaunt use for his lover and I feel as if I'm influenced by the many audios I saw on tiktok and fanfics I read (which isn't a bad thing at all)
Beloved? Love? Darling?
As a non native english speaker I never heard them spoken for real to someone so I have mixed feelings. I need to chose and I think there's one I prefer but I fear it's not very creative.
I'm probably giving this too much thoughts... OTL

As of right now, the Kavrilliaverse encompasses 14 word documents, 784 pages (single-spaced), and 375,152 words.
The place where it naturally divides itself into two books (i.e. where there's a two-year time jump) would give me one book of 266 pages/128,914 words, and one with 518 pages/246,238 words. That's awfully lopsided, unfortunately, but I'm not sure what to do about it.
My options are:
1. Write a bunch more for part one to bring it closer to the length of part two
2. Figure out how to break up part two into two books and make the whole thing a trilogy (very hard unless I do a huge cliffhanger at the end of book two)
3. Just have two books that are very different lengths
4. Keep it as one huge 784-page book.

@zoegarfield
(A bit of fic ramble so i don't have to keep saturating the comment section of the ask hehe)
Do you know what i realized while writing the newest chapter of my fic? How well the princess matches Achilles' philosophical vibes. When she is telling Hector not to waste his life through the analogy with the burials of queens? It's the same philosophical argument Achilles has with Patroclus in the film, only from a femenine perspective.
I didn't write it as a paralel, in the sense that i was not aware at all of this being a paralel when i wrote it. It just happened, accidentally, completely organically.

Been thinking about getting back to writing my nascent vampire fiction on ao3. Not sure I wanna stick with the conceit i started with, gonna need to think more about it. It's like lesbian vampire in fantasy pre industrial era style inspired by Warhammer fantasy. I just did her hunting a girl in a middle ways town but I'm not sure how to go from there. Probably less horny. Maybe move her into a larger city with her coven? I guess the biggest issue is that I don't know where I want to take the story. Any thoughts?

ao3 commenters PSA: even on older fics with a ton of comments the authors still get the notifs for every single comment
re: the person who just left a multi paragraph comment on one of my older fics talking about how much they disliked the ending and detailing several alternate endings they came up with instead that they thought would be better, and ending the comment with "no one is going to see this but oh well" authors see your comments yes even on old fics and it really doesn't feel good to see a comment like that even years after I finished the fic

Yall need to interact with fanfiction author's more.
So. After the ddos attack on ao3.
I was encouraged to write more comments and make my love known to fanfic writers.
I dont really like commenting. Because im a bit shy and soooo lazy.
Now though. I am writing more comments. And dude. This is so heartwarming. Ya'll need to treat writers better. They are doing the lord's work.
Take for an example, couple of days prior, i was searching for something interesting to read, and found an oneshot quite compelling.
I read it. At the end of it, i was blown away by how good it was. It promised me something and it went beyond my expectations. But then i saw a crime, zero fucking comments!
At that moment, i wasn't feeling up to writing a comment. Because, normally i like to write huge paragraphs. But because im lazy i decided to be brief.
Next day, the author answered that the comment lift their mood for the whole day.
That warmed my heart.
Duuuuuuuude! Write comments! Suport the writers of the fics you like! No need to be something super elaborate. Just give your thoughts. Freak out. Ramble. Ask something. Make theories. Compliment. Make a joke about how you wished to give kudos every chapter but ao3 sucks(not true bby) and won't let you.
Truly. Just. Comment. It can make someone's day. And that is part of the apeal of writing fics. Interacting with people.
Just give love to fanfic writers yall. They deserve this and so much more.

My fellow fanfic authors, I'm begging on my hands and knees – and Ima hold your hand as I say this – you gotta respond to the readers that leave comments on your work.
I know social anxiety is the worst (trust, my autistic ass understands) but I promise you, nothing deters a reader from commenting more than seeing a comment section with no replies as you continue to post fanfics. Even if it's as simple as "thanks for reading!" or just some cute emojis, it'll show that you're actually engaging with your audience!
We work so hard on our writing, and those of us that post them online want it to be seen, right? Indulging in our little fandoms is how we build connections with people that feel the same way.
It might be hard or even scary, but I find the more you socialize with others (especially in a more controlled environment like a comment section), the easier it gets! 💕

gentle [ kyle 'gaz' gerrick ]
Tumblr media
hes the biggest, whiniest, bf i just know it
cw: none, domestic, established relationship, gn! reader.
Kyle can't even wait until he's fully dried off before he tugs on his clothes, jumping through the door of your shared bathroom, feet thumping on the hardwood floor as he head to your bedroom. He grins, almost maniacally, leaping onto the bed as you stare at him in horror, "Kyle!" You laugh together, your hands in the air as you fear his bellowing weight crashing onto you. He cackles into your skin, muscular arms caging around your waist as he tugged you into his chest, "God, I've fuckin' missed ya." He smiles into your hair, pulling back to gently press his lips to yours. Kyle squeezes you, groaning and growling playfully as he pulled your over to lay on top of him. You laughed, crying out his name as you collided with him again. Lips met each other once again, messy and smiling as his hands dug into your hair. He couldn't help it, how in the very moment his hands met your skin, his eyes swelled with tears. He didn't want you to see, the man you called your big brave boyfriend, Kyle, crying at the sight of your gentle body hidden in the far too thick comforter. Kyle couldn't help it, tears sinking down his flushed cheeks as he kisses you with the passion of the months he couldn't. You pull away from him, his lips following yours in reluctance. He whines, so pathetic and desperate for you love that you can only laugh. Just a moment, enough for you lips to whisper before his lips pressed against your again, "I've missed you too."
i want him, i wanna cuddle with him and kiss his forehead before bed.

On yesterday’s episode of “errors that have gone unnoticed for over two decades,” we have the fact that Xeebec shows up for a surprise visit at the palace and nobody reacts to the fact that, as far as they knew, he was on a different continent.  To be fair, Vazali knew he was moving back to town, but had no idea when.  And he didn’t know that she had been tipped off, so she would still have had to fake surprise.
It’s fixed now, but it’s one of those things that make me shake my head and wonder what else I’ve been blind to all these years.

Started this back in February when it was more topical but... I suppose no time is a good time for romance as far as Theo is concerned.

Fanfiction writers, this is your friendly reminder that losing your virginity shouldn't hurt and there shouldn't be blood there. Your hymen never permanently breaks. It always heals back up (unless you have a medical condition).
This lie was invented by men to stop women from sleeping around. It's a sexist form of control. Please stop writing about it and teaching masses of young vagina owners that their first time is gonna hurt.
All you need is lube and to feel horny. 'Tis all.
Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

sorachi sticking to his message of found family instead of having canonically one sided romances with no mutual development or entirely platonic ones randomly getting married for the sake of a hetero nuclear family ending with dumb clone children is great actually. there is so much one can criticize about the final arc but gintama ending with yorozuya was always the obvious conclusion for the series that puts emphasis on the importance of relationships regardless of blood ties

I got an ask over the weekend, which I now can't find (sorry), but it related to this post talking about book comps in mainstream publishing and how I think trad-pub would describe Phangs.
Fortunately, I didn't have to think about it too hard because I already talked about this with one of my editors when that post went around. Gently rolling our eyes at trad-pub as we concluded that I'd most likely be marketed as "Twilight meets Fifty Shades" at worst and "Gail Carriger meets... probably Fifty Shades" at a hopeful best.
(Which... I mean. Yeah, I could see the Carriger association. Fifty Shades, however, nope, nope. Absolutely not.)
And I think we can all agree if I got marketed as Twilight meets Fifty Shades, you'd have a lot of disappointed people.
Not to mention the people who would enjoy Phangs wouldn't pick it up because Phangs, as it has been described by the actual fans, is the queer goth love child of Terry Pratchett meets Jane Austen, replete with vampires, werewolves, [REDACTED BEINGS], tongue-in-cheek social observations, multiple depictions of disability representation and a burgeoning dom/sub dynamic that expands into a happy open throuple in the second book after several bouts of vigorous communication.
Yet the industry would latch on to the vampire-werewolf dynamics, try to sell the polyamory as a love triangle, then lump the dom/sub elements into the horrific kink rep that is 50 Shades of Yikes because that's all it knows.
It knows "these are the things that made a profit; therefore, we must find ways to compare them, or we cannot market them," because they will not take a risk.
It's sad.
And also why, unless I'm offered obscene amounts of money, I'll be staying in my indie-self-pub lane. Trad-pub wouldn't know what to do with my disabled queer monsters.
They already demonstrated that when I did shop the novel around and I was asked to "tone down" the disability and also to turn the polyamory into a love triangle. So just, y'know, the core essence of the entire series 🙃.
