Explained | How does the gut microbiome link to autism spectrum disorders?
‘Fix your gut, fix your brain’ used to be an underrated idea, but it is today gaining in relevance as more and more research throws light on the role of the community of bacteria living in your gut, a.k.a. the gut microbiome. A healthy gut microbiome is not a panacea – but it may be able to facilitate better overall health and help improve the quality of life of individuals with various diseases…

weird that we treat autism and ADHD as intrinsically linked due to high rates of comorbidity but no one talks that way about autism and schizophrenia or autism and OCD or autism and bipolar disorder etc etc even though those are also often comorbid. gee I wonder why

i'm sorry but i don't think we should call this the "autism website" when there's still posts with tons of notes mocking people who:
struggle with social skills / have anxiety around social settings
are unemployed / unable to work certain jobs
have intense or "age-inappropriate" interests
haven't had certain life experiences that are deemed universal/essential
struggle with personal hygiene
don't have any friends or dating experience
don't go outside much or at all
take things literally / don't get sarcasm/jokes
have unusual ways of speaking
generally aren't "normal"

Sorry I'm not low empathy autistic in the "mysterious loner boy who secretly cares about his friends and talks in a monotone voice" way and I'm actually just completely indifferent to the suffering of people I don't know personally and help strangers out of a sense of "this is the right thing to do" and not "I feel so bad for this person" or guilt.
I sit and listen to my friends even though I don't really care about hearing about their problems because I know they'll be upset if I don't, and despite the fact I honestly can't genuinely care about the issue itself, I care about the impact it's having on my friends and that's enough to make me want to help them through it.
Did you know that's actually an expression of empathy all of its own?
It will absolutely happen again I literally am not even sorry

Brennan really took Ally accidentally naming a goddess after a Greek mythology figure and ran with it this season. Fabian and his whole Narcissus thing with Ecaf. The dance bard teacher having the same name as the Greek muse of dance. The place where the shards went back to being essentially Tartarus (body of a god used to house/torture the worst sinners or in fantasy highs case, dead/forgotten gods). Ambrosia being needed for devils nectar when it originated as food for the gods in Greek and Roman mythology. I’m seeing a pattern here

Accommodations are not special, they’re not a leg up, they’re not a benefit. They’re not putting anyone ahead in the race, nor are they taking anything away from others.
They exist to put us on a level playing ground to everyone else, and nothing more.

I know it's a comedy manga, but the ww manga probably has one of my favorite manga interpretations of Link. Mainly because he feels accurate to his games. He's quiet, he can talk, but he mostly just communicates his thoughts through his actions and body language. He's also just a silly little guy.

nobody's gonna see this but fuck it
the reason I love ofmd is because it shows what it means to be queer and trans and neurodivergent. like that's it. everyone is a little into each other, any kind of relationship goes and there's no questioning from everyone else. their identities don't get in the way of their character arcs. jim gets to be trans and poly and there doesn't need to be 3 episodes to explain it. stede and ed? bro that's literally autism4autism. there's no male gaze or female gaze. that soft ass ponytail ed was rocking is straight up queer gaze. the love story gets to progress beyond what any queer story written for/by straight people could do and way beyond the typical hetero romance. I love the humanity of it all. I love the way people can do bad things but they can still be loved. they can be in the wrong and need to change their actions and mindsets but still be loveable. that's what makes me love it. unconditional acceptance

Explained | How can you know if your child has autism?
The scene is the neighbourhood park. A group of 2- or 3-year-old children are playing together, with their mothers watching. One toddler, Arun, is off to the side. He is looking up at the trees, squinting at the light. His mother calls several times but he does not respond. He doesn’t seem interested in the other children or their toys. He holds a little car tightly in his hand.  Sometimes he…

god. theres something about how people in dungeon meshi dont voice any actual issues they have with laios. between shuro basically hating him and kabru whos unable to do many things, mainly tell laios he doesnt want to eat monsters. and when they finally do tell him, its a confession they give only when forced. like they dont view him as capable of understanding or acting differently because he failed certain social protocals. and the fact that laios has no idea either time. he was just like. my buddy shuro, i love talking to him :) my pal kabru! he wants to eat monsters too :) since i know shuro specifically cites giving laios specific social cues and hints that he didnt like him/didnt want to talk and they all flew right over laioss head. and that kind of heartbreak of finding out someone you thought liked you actually finds you annoying is so familiar to me as an autistic person it simultaneously makes me feel incredibly seen, and also so nauseus. i love dungeon meshi

being into sherlock holmes is so stupid like. yeah here's my blorbo, you don't know him. you think you do, but unless you've systematically fallen in love with him through the personal writings of his retired army doctor best friend you really don't. yeah. he's one of the most popular and well known characters in the world. I have interacted with at least 60% of the current fans. hey do you think he associates the sounds of waterfalls with death? do you think he'll ever get over that? I won't. good talk
