It's Times Like This When Danny Regrets Putting Off Learning How To Make His Own Portals, Cause Now He Is Very Much Stuck For The Foreseeable Future And He Has No Idea Where Or When He Is. Luckily For Him However Central City Isn't Too Far Away, Unlucky For Him However Is That Once In The City He Realizes This Isn't His Dimension. He's Pretty Sure He'd Remember Something Called The Justice League.

So What Do You Do When Supernatural Bullshit Fails You? You Fall Back On Your Mad Scientist Roots And You Make A Portal Gun. So That's Exactly What Danny Plans To Do.

Unfortunately Staying Alive And Building Questionably Safe Portal Technology Requires Money And Supplies, So He Ends Up Wandering From City To City Doing Odd Jobs/Fixing Up Busted Tech For Cash Or Unwanted Electronics For His "Operation: Get Home" Needs. This Obviously Ends In A Few Superhero Encounter Shenanigans.

Though He Always Ends Up Back Near Central City, Both On The Off Chance The Natural Portal Will Open Up Again And Because Out Of All The Superheroes That Apparently Exist In This Universe The Speedsters Are His Favorite (Red Robin Is Solidly His Second Favorite Ever Since The Gotham Vigilante Gave Him A Large Coffee Filled With Enough Caffeine To Kill A Man).

Unbeknownst To Danny However Is That Every Hero/Vigilante He Has Encountered Has Come To At Least One Of The Following Conclusions; 1. Run Away Meta Who Is In Desperate Need Of A Good Meal/Adoption Bait. 2. Possibly Red Robin/Tim Drake Clone 3. A Good Kid But Could Possibly Be A Future Rouge If Left Unsupervised. 4. few things annoy me more than some of this fandoms 1. weird pro-slavers anti-dany bias and 2. stripping a woman’s experience from female characters because they don’t ’woman right’ enough

i don’t even really want to discuss point one because it disgusts me so fucking much. not only is the logic convoluted and always hinges on interpreting dany’s actions in the absolute worst light possible. it is also very, very misogynistic due to the double standards necessary to condemn dany to such a degree while none of the male characters committing the same or worse offenses get even a smidge of criticism from these same people. i’m just going to say one last thing: if you are using pro-confederacy talking points to condemn dany then you are a vile person.

as for point two, this is much more insidious in my opinion. much of it is based on the idea that these specific (normally gender nonconforming) female characters were ‘indulged’ so therefore their experiences do not meet the necessary ‘standards’ to equate to a woman’s experience. it’s insane logic meant to demean a female character and condemn her agency and the choices she made. it’s the type of logic that always veers into the ‘arya was indulged and therefore her experiences are less valid’ or ‘dany’s power and agency makes her experiences less valid because she’s not suffering this specific way’ or ‘lyanna was indulged and is therefore selfish and her experiences are less valid.’ for some reason it is always. always. these three characters getting attacked in this specific way. all three female characters faced the same exact challenges as every. single. other. female character. the same barriers, they share similar experiences with male characters to varying degrees.

arya and sansa were both ‘indulged’ by ned. i agree that ned had an easier time connecting to arya (like how cat had an easier time connecting to sansa), but both girls were indulged (like most noble girls!) and this is framed as a good thing. please don’t turn it into something bad, especially when both instances fostered character growth. after neds death arya continues to have a variety of experiences, and through arya we actually learn what a peasant girls experience looks like! no, arya does not have a boys experience. a girl hiding as a boy in a war zone is a common occurrence in the real world, and it is not just valid to explore but key to understanding george’s views on war. so far though arya we see 1. a non-conforming little girls life whose father was kind but still held gendered expectations for her. 2. a common girls experience without family or class protections going through a war zone. 3. a servant girls experience under feudalism where servants have basically no rights. 4. arya also gives us a multitude of experiences after becoming an acolyte at the hobaw. all of these experiences (including the erasure of arya’s identity and her holding onto it) are important looks into different classes and how outsiders view westeros. people not respecting arya’s very female experience makes me fear that there’s a bit of a aesthetic/male gaze epidemic going on here. arya’s suffering isn’t pretty enough or isn’t in a romantic setting so it gets dismissed. it’s dirty and violent and crass and doesn’t conform to passive suffering. there’s also a classism angle to all of it, though that would require an essay of its own to cover everything. but please remember that at the core of arya’s storyline is a simple truth: the world is hostile to girls.

dany is oftentimes hit by two different anti views: 1. a focus on her lack of agency but no focus on her rise to power 2. a dismissal of the validity of her experience as a female character because she’s risen to power. both views are incredibly self serving and are meant to chip away at character relatability. focusing on her lack of agency is tasteless (imo), and suggests that the person sees dany’s experiences with men/women as a ruler as inherently invalid because she has power that places her above the pecking order. this makes me believe that you cannot handle a female character whose path to power stands as different from the rest. it’s odd to say the least, and tells me that you think there is a right way to gain power just like people believe there is a correct way to end slavery without upsetting the poor economy. as for point two, this is similar to most anti rhetoric levied at arya and lyanna. because the experiences explored through dany and arya and lyanna are outside the norm, and because they are incredibly active characters, they also make waves and are involved in things like… violence *gasp* death *GASP* adultery (this one just relates to dany and lyanna. arya’s three apples tall so this doesn’t apply to her) *GASPGASPGASP*. people seem genuinely unable to handle complexity in women’s lives. some people seem to have a very narrow view on what counts as a woman’s experience, but if a woman steps outside those bounds she is therefore stripped of her womanhood and is fair ground for attacking. this is something i see so clearly in every anti dany post. i’m exhausted tbh.

as for lyanna… well... some people seem to believe that lyanna making active choices (knight of the laughing tree, running away, having a bastard) therefore mean she was ‘indulged,’ which is both true and not true. all noble girls are indulged more than their common girl counterparts, but lyanna was still placed under gendered expectations like all the rest of her peers. lyanna clearly just didn’t let these expectations prevent her from playing around with sticks and riding in a tourney as a mystery knight to defend the honor of howland (who would’ve been considered a nobody to most). her actions were clearly driven by her morals, morals she placed in higher esteem than gendered expectations. trying to strip a woman’s experience from her is just wrong. these people are practically telling on themselves and show that they cannot sympathize nor understand a female character who steps away from the beaten path, and does something considered ‘morally wrong’ in her world and in our own: having an illegitimate child with a married man. oh nooo… anyways. this just proves to me that many women cannot sympathize with a woman who does something they consider ‘wrong’ and that women will take it so far as to invalidate the womanhood of those they consider ‘not right.’ i think of lyanna as a litmus test tbh. i will absolutely judge you for your views on her. if you fail then i am NOT trusting your views on dany and arya.

i want to add onto this actually. catelyn is another character who’d place high on this list, though i’m actually really happy with the direction the fandom is going with her on this issue at the moment. many people struggle with cat because she… *GASP* doesn’t mother jon. cat’s a very active character, but thanks to fandom’s standards, she has the benefit of fitting into our preconceived notions of how a mother should behave—expect in how she treats jon. and then it’s a goddamn bloodbath. i’m glad most people now seem to agree that cat’s character is not only made better, but that it’s completely valid of her to not have mothered jon or theon. still, cat is often criticized for the choices she makes as a mother to protect her children. here, i see a dismissal and even a mocking of motherhood and Love as valid motivations for risky behaviors. and that does disappoint me. however, catelyn didn’t make my top 3 because she experiences confinement—she is stripped of power and agency—and this, i fear, is why she ends up meeting the criteria for what some fans view as a ‘valid’ female character. all because she lost power to her son :/. hopefully it’s obvious that i’m not dismissing this arc, because i do think it’s important to explore. but it’s still vexing to me that a woman’s loss of agency is so often treated as peak feminism (a trend i see a lot in modern feminist literature and one i honestly cringe at).

i believe i covered everything i wanted to. i’m just struggling with this fandom and the way people treat womanhood as some narrow thing with criteria one must meet. womanhood shouldn’t be something that feels so excluding. well, to me it should be embracing and kind and supportive of girls from all walks of life. being a woman makes you a woman. that’s it. that’s all the criteria you should need to meet to be embraced, and that logic should reflect back onto the female characters we all love and care about. thanks for reading :)

Haaa... Kafka x Dante Love Children AU + lore/story beats. Amateur art warning under the cut. Also long post warning. Like... REALLY long post.

Before you get into this, might I recommend my two Dmc x Kn8 Crossover Fics for context?

Another Fucking Idea

{I am NOT coming up with the full devil trigger forms, ya'll got imagination, do it yourself. That shit is too damn detailed oriented for my hands to deal with.}

Francesca "Rimi" Rimini Hibino-Sparda. (Kafka insisted on the hyphenated name, but Dante insisted that takes the back seat in placement because Kafka was the one to give birth to them)

The older sister... Technically. By seven minutes.

Definitely takes after both of her fathers in humor. They like to joke that she stole all of her sister's energy in the womb.

Real big into music. Likes to study music theory and make beats in her spare time.

Wields two axes named Bass and Treble (Bass is pictured here.) Bass had the meat mallet end designed for breaking exoskeletons while Treble has a Kaiju uni-organ socket for elemental damage. She gave Nico a look at it and now can put demonic energy into the ax as well.

Currently works with the Defense Force style of Fighting, but has been considering trying out the Devil Arms system as a way to connect with Dante.

The jacket she's wearing was originally Kafka's from the time he was stuck in Dante's dimension. Dante worked with Nico to make something for Kafka so his Kaiju energy could convert into demonic so Kafka could wield the Beowulf Gauntlets and cut down on his time spent in Kaiju form.

Now the jacket makes limited hard-light copies of her weapons and can project them short ranges away from her. (I like to think they make the M-1 Garand ping noise when they do.)

Has an ABNORMALLY high healing factor. Like, faster than Kafka. (Think almost on par with Andy from Undead Unluck but not to the point she can make clones.)

Loves pizza as much as the rest of her family, but is a die-hard for Kentucky Fried Chicken. (Convinced Dante to drive her to Kentucky for a bucket on her birthday.)

Wears heels and can full sprint in them. Partially because she's one of those people that has incredibly tight tendons in her ankles so heels are actually better for her, but also because she's mildly irritated that her sister is taller than her by three inches, even though their both 7ft. (She's 7ft 1in specifically.)

Author's Note: Personally, her Devil Trigger form (the middle face) looks like one of those Chinese Lion Dogs to me but I don't hate it. I aimed to make her look more like a Kaiju to show how she's more on the Kaiju side genetically and to also separate her from her sister which you'll see in just a second. And since I know no one is going to be able to tell but in her Sin Devil Form (the top face) her mouth and eyes are just constantly on fire. Have been debating on what to call their Devil Trigger forms since they're not fully demons. Been leaning towards Kaiju Trigger but I don't really like the sound of Sin Kaiju trigger.

Malatesta "Mal" Paula Hibino-Sparda

The Younger Fraternal Twin sister who stands at a whopping 7ft 4in.

When she was a toddler, she walked right into a cabinet door so hard, it caused a permanent scar over her nose, which technically shouldn't be there because she also had an abnormal healing factor (albeit not as fast as her sister.). It was the first time Rimi and her father ever heard her cry, let alone scream in pain, so it took them a few minutes to react when it happened. It's thought that its still there because she's somehow subconsciously keeping it there.

Acts very cold and unenthusiastic, but don't let that fool you. She is just as full with love and care for her sister as her sister does for her. (although it may not look like it when they fight.)

When Kafka was stuck in Dante's dimension, he got to listen to all the shit that happened to him and his brother so when Kafka got back home and found out he had twins, he became dedicated to make sure that all that shit didn't happen to his kids. (God only knows the damage that would happen if one of them became traumatized.)

She's incredibly shy and socially awkward which doesn't help her outward personality, but once she opens up you'll quickly find out she's a MASSIVE Star Wars nerd.

Goes to all the conventions, has several OC cosplays, and makes a new one every year as a way to showcase her personal growth to herself.

She also pays out the nose for a new custom lightsaber for each of her OC cosplays. Again, this is Every. YEAR.

Built her own Lightsaber Display Wall. Which unintentionally gateway-drugged her into loving DIY projects.

While she doesn't use conventional Defense Force weaponry, she did eventually find out that she has the ability to use the Meraki Kaiju Explosion runes for some reason. No one had any idea how this is possible considering that's not something Kafka can do. It's theorized that her demon half has something to do with it.

Had to create her own system of Defense Force fighting style. Consists of:

Cleansing Ties: An augmented version of the Meraki bands that can produce healing energy. Baneful Bindings: Strings of Meraki bands that trap and restrains enemies and inflicts a Burn status. Sadistic Symphony: An Explosive 4-piece slash attack.

(There's others, but I can't really come up with anything else that sounds interesting.)

After Meeting Vergil, Something came up and it was decided that He should train her in using the Yamato, He had to COMPLETELY rewire her train of thought when it came to sword wielding because it conflicted with all her knowledge on lightsaber stances.

Something happened to the Yamato and caused the tip of it to break off. Vergil converted the broken tip into a small, pocket dimension opening dagger. It's called the Ya-Mini and Mal pretty much only uses it to store snacks. (I should say that the pocket dimensions aren't that big)

Author's Note: Okay, so I didn't really have any idea what her character was going to look like outside of the bolero jacket and the weird corset-tailcoat looking thing I gave her. Once I decided on giving her puff shoulders on the bolero, the princess vibes just kinda fell in. Her color scheme is black, white and yellow, but the second I knew that there was going to be yellow in the outfit, I knew that I wasn't going to be able to color it because I don't know how to color something without it turning piss yellow. If you've followed my page at all, I made an idea that Kafka should get wings and it should look like there's ghost faces in it to represent the souls of those that became the Parasite Kaiju. I absolutely reused that design here. All I knew when I was coming up with her Devil trigger faces that she needed to look more human because I've noticed that in later evolutions of Dante's devil trigger designs (Not including the dmc5 Sin Devil form) he starts retaining a more human face, I'm guessing to represent how he's accepting of his human lineage. Her horns are inspired by Albedo, so I think that helped keep up with the princess theme that I have no idea where it comes from. (I mean that in the sense that I have no In-game/lore reason as to why she looks like this... outside of personal aesthetic I guess?) Do not ask where the snake fangs come from, I think I literally gave up on design cohesion toward the end of the sketch. I should also mention that her hair is on fire.

☆*:..｡. .｡.:*☆ Alright, onto the Story. (Abbreviated)

Okay, so if you've read the tags at the end of Another Fucking Idea, I should say that some of that had been retconned a little

Dante does end up in Kafka world and does meet his first daughter, but the rest of the dmc group doesn't end up in Kafka's world as well.

What happens is that another, different colored portal opens up and sends Dante back to his world but traps him in hell. This happens right as Kafka and Mal just step down in Japan.

Rimi saw what happened and tells her father to which he goes "Fuuuuck, another one?"

Kafka then asked for the Defense Force to look out for another portal activity (they know what to look for because they had a hand in fixing the portal problem the first time). Once they do find one, Kafka tries to give his kids a run down of what their about to find on the other side.

He keeps the details of how he knows Dante vague and instead hammers home who to find and where as well as how they had to fix the portal problem the first time.

Once a portal was found, all three of them head over to it. Something happens and only the twins make it through, leaving Kafka on the other side.

Now trapped in a clearly demon infested America, Rimi and Mal decide to hunt down the Devil may cry building. (This is in the rain btw)

They find the building but only find Lady and Trish inside. The twins give them a rundown of what's going on at their end and ask where Dante is.

Trish and Lady tell them that Dante hasn't been seen in three months and they have no idea where he went. They talk for a bit and decide that they should hunt down Vergil because if anyone could get a hold of Dante, it's the man with a portal opening sword.

But before they can get a hold of Vergil, they have to get a hold of Nero because no one knows where the hell Vergil went recently.

So the four of them head out and of course in true Hero's journey fashion they have to fight off a few demons along the way. At first Trish and Lady thought the twins were normal for the most part (excluding the 7ft tall bit) but they very quickly find out about the "I can heal faster than I'm injured" and the "I don't care how big the room is, I cast fireball" parts of the twins. (There was also a discussion about how similar they look to Dante but the twins shut that down by saying that they already know who their dad is {which is Kafka} but they never knew their mom and would like to keep it that way)

They get to Nero and Nico and they ask them where Vergil is and Nero is like "How the fuck should I know? I haven't seen him since that one time a few months after the Qliphoth fell."

So discussions are had, Nero brings up a problem they're dealing with and say that they'll help if everyone chips in and fixes that problem before they tackle the other stuff. (Nero also brings up the "How are the two of you NOT related to Dante" issue but brings up how Rimi's hands on her wings look like his)

Everyone helps wrap up Nero's problem and it consequently reveals where Vergil's been cooped up this whole time. They head on over and ask what's going on with his neck of the woods and he reveals that, for some fucking reason, The Yamato can't open a portal to hell anymore. He's reasonably pissed about this. (oh, at some point between this bullet point and the next it's revealed to the girls that Kafka is in fact their mom biologically and Dante is their dad)

Everyone talks about what's been going on with them and its one of those "Everything is Connected" moments.

They come up with a plan and its that they should teach one of the twins to wield the Yamato because the barrier between earth and hell is being reinforced with dimensional energy from Kafka's dimension and they think that if someone came at it with both types of energies that it should -hopefully- break open just enough to let everyone in.

It ends up taking a lot more than just the Yamato to break it open (This is where the Yamato breaks and Vergil holds on to the broken pieces for later.) They make it into Hell and suddenly Nero, Mal, and Vergil are hit with the WORST pressure migraine they think they could ever feel. (Rimi is immune due to the healing factor.)

They poke around and eventually find Dante who is dealing with a similar migraine and quickly recount what's been going on with them. (After an emotional moment where Dante realizes that not only his kids from another world came to save him but his brother of all people came willingly to help.) {Keep in mind only Dante here knows it's his kids and he's not saying anything}

They all pool their brains together and figure out what's the problem: (So I don't really have an clear picture of what the "Villain" is here but I do know its an original character. The best idea for a plot so far is this->) The guy that made the portal problem the last time in an attempt to resurrect his ?wife? by utilizing transdimentional time warp wasn't as dead as they thought he was and is now trying to destroy all three universes by reinforcing the barrier around hell and stuffing Hell with so much extra-dimensional energy from Kafka's world that once the barrier finally breaks, it will break with enough force that it will wipe out all three universes in one go because they guy got really pissed that he failed the first time.

So obviously that gets fixed, but that's only half of the problem. Dante and Vergil figure that the only way for people to stop fucking around with the dimensional barriers is for them to recreate the ritual that Sparda did with their blood and have the new twin's blood act as a sealant between Kafka's world and their world, which does mean that the twins will never be able to come back to Dante's world.

Now, if it was up to me and I had the power to make this into a video game, this would have two endings. One where you play normally and one where you 100% the game. The first ending is where they make the portal and there is a tearful goodbye where neither Dante or the twins mention that they're related. The portal closes and as Dante turns to leave, Vergil says "Did you know?" and Dante responds with "I don't want to talk about it." aaaaaand credits roll.

The SECOND ending is after 100% the game and you hit the end, the Portal opens back up and the girls jump back through, tackle their dad, and excitedly explain that, just before they did the ritual, Japan figured out a way to let the three of them hop back and forth across their dimensions so Dante can keep his visitation rights. Dante says "The THREE of you?" to which you start to see Kafka's monster frame lumber through the portal. He stands straight, looks Dante dead in the eye (as best he could with the height difference) and says in a tired voice ". . . Hey babe."

And NOW credits roll :D.

The only reason this is achievable after 100% the game is because the in-lore reason is that means you spent THAT long, in in-game hours, that it gave Japan enough time to figure out a way to leave enough space in the fabric of reality that it lets them make a two way portal just for Kafka and his kids to visit Dante. Will this irrevocably change the course of the future for both realities for better or worse? Most definitely. Do I care? Absolutely not. That and we're talking about Half Demon/ Half Kaiju Mutant Children here that wish to visit their dad in a different reality, We've lost the plot when we started.

you know, sometimes I forget that Twst is actually an isekai that starts with the protagonist getting run over by an inexplicable horse-drawn carriage. and every time I'm reminded is a delight because that's AMAZING.

also. look. okay. there's a lot of very fun stuff in the trailer but I am obsessed with that Crowley surprised pikachu face. me when I spend all my keys and gems literally hours before they announce overblot SSRs and drop the anime trailer:

The best tdmd moments/things (to me; vaguely but not entirely chronological) (also I haven’t read the manga in ages and I’ve only - recently at least - rewatched bits and pieces so some of this is paraphrased while some of it I went back through to get exact quotes and NO I’m not going to do that for all of them it would take too long) (readmore bc it’s a lot):

- “As the crowd shouted, trying to make Sero feel better, Todoroki took a moment to melt his opponent from the ice prison he’d created. For some reason, in that moment, he looked very sad to me.” Ok so this is not the sports festival moment everyone talks about but it LIVES in my head ABSOLUTELY RENT FREE. It’s like, we know Todoroki’s been watching Midoriya for a while, mostly due to his obvious connection with All Might, but in this moment, while everyone is focusing on Sero, Midoriya is Watching Todoroki Back. He Sees Him.

- MIDORIYA TELLING ENDEAVOR THAT HE IS NOT ALL MIGHT AND SHOUTO IS NOT HIM. Midoriya is freeeeeaked tf out bc endvr is intimidating + he’s worried he’ll discover the secret of OFA but the SECOND endvr starts talking like an asshole, Midoriya SHUTS THAT SHIT DOWN. Again, Midoriya has had like ONE conversation with Todoroki and actively Really Wants To Get Away From Endeavor, but he just gets so mad about the way that Endeavor’s talking that he pauses his retreat to correct him and I think that’s beautiful.

- One of Todoroki’s episodes/chapters being titled “The boy born with everything” and how you could easily contrast Midoriya as “The boy born with nothing” (I could not find a definitive answer on whether canon actually calls him that but like). The juxtaposition of their opposite struggles and the underlying understanding that underneath it all they are really not that different. That they have both suffered, and are both trying to make the most of a power with a difficult legacy. (This brings me to the next point because -)

- “It’s your power, isn’t it?”/“It’s yours! Your quirk, not his!” Yeah. I don’t even have to explain this one I think, everyone knows it’s THE tddk moment. I’ll forever die on the hill that Todoroki should’ve found out about OFA sooner and we should’ve had a direct reversal while Midoriya was still struggling with thinking of OFA as his quirk instead of All Might’s and Todoroki repeats Midoriya’s words right back at him. I mean, Horikoshi LOVES to do that (see: repetition of “body moved without thinking”, “meddling when you aren’t asked to is the essence of being a hero”, “that’s what friends are for, right?” etc) the setup was RIGHT THERE, like taking my shipping goggles or whatever off for a second I think it would’ve been a great addition to the story regardless bc it’s an example of how Midoriya has helped other people AND a reminder that he has not quite conceptualized the advice he gives others for himself! Even without that though, we see how important this moment was to Todoroki literally throughout the rest of his arc, to the point that

- “Midoriya, this is my power. Thank you.” IF WE DIDNT GET TDRK TELLING MDYA THAT OFA WAS HIS QUIRK, AT LEAST WE GOT THIS. MY GOD. I was trying to go mostly chronologically, but since we’re talking about a follow-up to “It’s your power, isn’t it?” I HAD to mention this scene next. It’s a really lovely moment because 1) it’s an acknowledgement of how much Todoroki’s grown (which he did on his own! Midoriya reminded him of why he wanted to become a hero in the first place, and he had a lot of support from friends (& teachers/family) but TODOROKI decided to put in the work to become the kind of hero he wanted to be!) and 2) it’s a reminder to Midoriya that he has made a positive impact and helped the people around him, which I think he’s probably struggling with since this is like. Soon after his dropout arc iirc. (Also: it’s a cool new super move that Todoroki developed himself to try to create a better future for his family!! Which, setting aside how beautiful it is that Todoroki has crafted his fire into something that won’t hurt, is also fun bc Midoriya loves quirks and gets to nerd out over Todoroki’s cool new move lol)

- TODOROKI SHOWING UP TO THE STAIN FIGHT. Todoroki has been friends with Midoriya for like a week and gets a location pin with no other context and IMMEDIATELY deduces that 1) Midoriya’s not the kind of guy to randomly drop his location so 2) he must be in danger, and 3) IMMEDIATELY TELLS ENDEAVOR HE’S GOING TO CHECK OUT THE LOCATION AND TO BRING BACKUP TO THERE AFTER HE’S DONE FIGHTING BC HE THINKS HIS FRIEND’S IN TROUBLE. When he actually shows up the first thing he says is something like “Midoriya you should include more details at a time like this. It took me a while to figure out what you meant and I could’ve been too late” but we literally see in the flashback that he figured this all out in like 2 seconds and IMMEDIATELY came to support Midoriya AND SECURED BACKUP. Every person in Midoriya’s phone received the location pin and expressed various levels of curiosity/concern about it in hindsight but Todoroki figured it out right away and immediately came to help (this isn’t a knock on the rest of 1a btw iirc the rest of them weren’t even in Hosu so there’s not anything they really could’ve done about it besides report it - which iirc Kirishima did -, it’s just that Todoroki WAS in Hosu and DID figure it out so he immediately went to help and it was that simple for him). Todoroki also just like. Instantly accepts that ok, Midoriya and Iida were fighting a serial killer, Guess He’s Also Fighting A Serial Killer Now. ALL THIS FOR HIS FRIEND OF A WEEK. This is one of the core tenets of tddkism to me: they are as ride-or-die as they come. Also notable: Midoriya is not generally in the habit of asking for help. The fact that he did, knowing nothing might come of it, AND TODOROKI SHOWED UP EXACTLY WHEN HE NEEDED HIM??? Can we acknowledge how much that probably meant to Midoriya. Also the start of tdiimd as a trio, which this post isn’t really about, but I can’t completely leave Iida out when talking abt the stain fight that’d be fucked up :(

- “We’ll protect them together”. Yes ik, another Stain fight moment, but I believe this line deserves its own point because, again, Todoroki has been Midoriya’s friend for like a week. Immediately prior to Todoroki saying this, he tells Midoriya that his plan is risky. It’s one thing to recognize Midoriya’s text as a call for help and run to be his backup, it’s another thing to let Midoriya take the strategic lead when he’s already injured and the plan itself could be dangerous. But Todoroki puts his trust in Midoriya and says they’ll protect them together, showing his confidence in Midoriya’s strategic prowess AND battle planning ability.

- “You’re a kind person, Todoroki”. Ok I’ll get this out of the way: I have issues with how the writing of this chapter could be read as implying that being a kind person automatically means you have to forgive the person who hurt you. Ik Midoriya tells Todoroki that it’s ok not to forgive Endvr if he doesn’t want to, but the way he follows it up with the fact that he’s a kind person and the assumption that he wants to forgive Endvr...aren’t my favorite. I think it kind of makes sense for Midoriya to think like this given his own experiences (and also. Midoriya is 15, some of his wording is gonna be a little bit awkward sometimes, so I don’t think that’s the only possible interpretation of what he said), but I wish that if that was the intention, there’d be a moment later on where this view was challenged and Midoriya really internalized that you can be kind and still not forgive someone who’s hurt you. THAT BEING SAID, of all the things that Todoroki is called on a regular basis, and of all the qualities Todoroki associates with himself, I don’t think “kind” is necessarily one of them. “Kindness” was not exactly a virtue that Endeavor seemed to prioritize instilling in him (and though Rei probably would’ve, she WAS absent for much of Shouto’s childhood), and he spent so much time building his walls and striving to defy his dad that it’s not something people tend to immediately pinpoint about him. Todoroki really IS kind though, and Midoriya recognizes that AND makes it a point to tell him. For Todoroki, who has worked on himself quite a lot, and just invited friends to his house probably for the first time ever + gone through a tense family dinner in front of them, I think that probably meant a lot (and his expression in that panel is so cute. Ough).

- “Thank you for being Shouto’s friend”. I think the fact that Fuyumi recognized how meaningful their friendship was and thanked Izuku for it was so significant for both of them, like neither of them, as far as we know, HAD a lot of friends prior to attending UA so the acknowledgement that it is a big deal that they befriended each other is special <3

- Tdrk catching Mdya (and bkg and endvr but this ain’t about them) during the first war arc. He doesn’t know shit about OFA at this point but he followed Midoriya to the front lines anyways.

- Todoroki tucking Midoriya in in 327 and putting a hand on his shoulder in 32…8? 9? Fuck if I know I haven’t read the manga in ages. Anyways. These are both tiny moments but I’m grouping them together bc they really show how Todoroki is there for Midoriya, in the way that he’s always noticing things about him, that he’s RELIABLE, he WANTS to be there for Midoriya like Midoriya was there for Todoroki and that manifests both in following him into terrifying fights and in the small gestures of support. Todoroki NOTICES when something’s wrong, and when he has the necessary context he steps up to help.

Bonus mentions:

- the “are you all might’s secret love child or something?” convo in its entirety. Between the Todoroki Family Trauma Dump, Midoriya sympathizing with Todoroki and realizing that despite how different their lives have been, they’re very similar, the beginning of Midoriya’s desire to help Todoroki, and the beginning of Midoriya really Seeing Todoroki, it sets the groundwork for the start of something beautiful

- AFO: “pay close attention to them, tomura shigaraki. These two could prove to be formidable obstacles to you one day”. / AM: “they may have more in common than they realize. They both have such an intense vibe about them.” The fact that both AFO and AM comment on the tdmd sports festival match leads me to believe that originally their relationship (in the original story I’m talking about the platonic sense but read this any way you will since. This IS a post abt why I ship them) was supposed to be more central to the plot, in this essay I will - (<- ramblings of a crazy person but like!!! Both AM and AFO!! And you’re telling me it didn’t mean anything??? Come on!!)

- Also “you’re helping your opponent. You’re a fool.” Their matching maniacal grins after Midoriya prompts Todoroki to use his fire. Todoroki’s softer smile and little tear. Mdya’s “Amazing…”. Them immediately deciding to go full force regardless if it kills them (IMPORTANT FACT ABOUT THEM IS THAT THEY’RE INSANE <3). “Midoriya…thank you.” (OUGHHHHHHHHH 😭😭😭)

- MDYA YELLING “DONT GIVE UP” DURING THE TDRK/BKG MATCH AND FOR A BRIEF MOMENT TODOROKI STARTS USING HIS FIRE AGAIN. Ik he ultimately doesn’t end up using his fire, but that makes SENSE, you can’t process all that trauma immediately, it takes time!! The fact that for a moment, Midoriya’s voice was enough to allow him to use his fire so soon after his life-altering revelation in the tdmd match is so important to me though :( (and the fact that Midoriya’s willing to 1) root for Todoroki and 2) root for him loud enough that both Todoroki and Bkg can hear,,, ohh tdmd are so special to me)

- their little convo at the training camp. “You have a habit of sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong” lol (paraphrased). Underrated tdmd thing is that they’re willing to tell it to each other straight. But also, the genuinely good advice of “words themselves aren’t enough, actions are also needed to get through to someone” (again, paraphrased) (reminder of how Mdya helped Tdrk!! W/ words AND actions!! And now he’s helping Mdya help Kota!)

- “I don’t know, I think heroes cry when they need to probably” - acknowledges Mdya’s crying as a positive trait bc when he’s not crying it means he’s repressing things, also serves as a reminder that heroes are people too (a similar sentiment to Uraraka’s “who will save the heroes when they need saving?”). Serves to remind Mdya that his crying doesn’t make him less of a hero + it’s ok to feel things. Also Tdiimd.

- “You can’t even cry”/“Let us share that burden together” (this is like. Veeeery paraphrased I’m sorry I don’t have access to the chapter and I’m too lazy to rewatch). The whole class said very meaningful things to try to get Midoriya to come back, but even though he wasn’t ultimately the one to fully get through to him (SHOUTOUT TO IIDA ILY IIDA THIS POST ISNT ABOUT HIM EITHER BUT JUST KNOW I CANT WATCH THAT SCENE WITHOUT TEARING UP THEY R SO DEAR TO ME) Todoroki’s is one of my favorites bc sure maybe he doesn’t understand what it’s like to have no quirk and then suddenly have a quirk that’s actually seven quirks and have a pretty much all-powerful supervillain hunting him down but he DOES understand the burden of trying to shoulder the crushing legacy of a top hero, and here he reaches out to Midoriya once more reminding him that his tears are a good thing and offering to share the burden and help Midoriya like Midoriya’s helped him.

- Light novel moments: Mdya teaching Tdrk how to make AM origami and Tdrk sending it to Rei, Tdrk going to return Mdyas pencil and admiring Mdyas AM figure and Mdya trying to give it to him bc he has another one but Tdrk refuses bc he doesn’t want to damage it so he suggests he just come visit it instead (I haven’t read the light novels but I’ve seen these excerpts and I love them dearly) (these are just all really cute it’s nice to see what they’re like outside of doing hero stuff)

- Todoroki’s “Midoriya Sense” (yes this is a fandom joke based on like the stain incident + noticing smth was up during the “heroes cry too” incident + Todoroki asking abt him before the cultural festival etc but it IS genuinely very sweet that Todoroki is always looking out for Midoriya and trying his best to help when he can)

- TODOROKI TELLING MIDORIYA TO REMOVE THE BATTERIES FROM HIS PHONE SO THE GOVERNMENT COULDNT TRACK HIM WHILE HE WAS ON THE RUN BC HE WAS A MURDER SUSPECT. Now I haven’t watched the third movie so I may be wrong about the details but it was VERY funny of Tdrk to be like “did you kill people??? Never mind that actually here’s how to avoid the government” (paraphrased for comedic effect)

-“Midoriya and the others” (cute, something Shouto says…several times lmao) (Izuku has also said “Todoroki and the others” at least once (in the first movie) but I’m not aware of it being a recurring phrase like “Midoriya and the others”)

Marisha's comment about how Relvin is one of those parents who ended up with a child they didn't know what to do with really gets to the heart of it, i think, and is such a good way to tie the fantasy element of Imogen's powers into things more tangible. because there are really a lot of parents like Relvin in real life, who have a child with the person they're happily married to and never expect to be left alone with the kid. or who expect a ""normal"" (read: cisgender and heterosexual, able-bodied, relatively neurotypical and obedient, etc.) child and end up with one who's ""difficult"", who demands more or different of them than what they believe they signed up for. and that's not entirely entitlement on a parent's part- many cultures' common frameworks of parenthood and child-rearing do not include space for these children. it makes sense that Relvin was unprepared. raising any child is difficult, and raising a child whose needs you were never taught how to accommodate, who the world is so cruel to, is even more challenging.

and yet. and yet, the person who bears the brunt of the harm in these situations will always be the child. they're the ones who have to live every moment of how the world treats them, without the support that their parent is supposed to provide them. and when asked to care for his child even when she turned out to be ""difficult"", Relvin couldn't. for entirely sympathetic reasons, of course. he tried, in his own way. i don't think he's a bad guy. but he's let his own broken heart bleed onto his daughter. he hasn't been able to give her much else.
