Hey just to let you know in case you hadn't heard, Ru Paul opened a drop shipping book store and is pretending its a queer bookstore, and then added the entire Ingram collection to the site and wildly marked the prices up more than anywhere else. Both versions of Hunger Pangs are listed and are being sold for $33.32 ($16.66 for "members"). Idk if that is something you have any control over or care about but just in case I figured I should let you know!
Ooft, that's a hefty markup.
Regrettably, I can't control which retailers use Ingram, nor can I control the prices they choose to sell at.
Ru Paul's company, Allstora, can mark it ten times higher than the recommended retail price and claim it as pure profit if they want, and there's nothing I can do about it. (I am side-eyeing the membership price because that is significantly lower than the rrp through Ingram, so I'll need to see how they're compensating for that.)
This is a good time to remind buyers that authors don't get paid more if they buy above the recommended retail price. Our contracts with printers like Ingram are negotiated based on the recommended retail price we select, not the final sale price chosen by retailers.
So, y'know, buy wherever works best for you.
Personally, I won't be buying anything from Allstora when there are queer indie bookstores out there who aren't price gouging their customers.
Incidentally, if you're in the US, if you go to Bookshop.org, you can select which bookstore you want to place your orders from by visiting, bookshop.org/pages/bookstores
When you scroll through the different options, you'll see whether the bookstore is queer-owned, female-owned, black-owned, Indigenous-owned, etc.
It's a neat little way of ordering books online while still being able to support brick-and-mortar stores, even if you don't have one near you. I like to switch mine up every few months just so I'm spreading my money around.

head's up for all my international peeps: Book Depository announced on Twitter that they're closing on 26 April 2023.
per their tweet: "You can still place orders until midday (12pm BST) on 26 April and we will continue to deliver your purchases and provide support for any order issues until 23 June 2023."
preorders for books that come out before April 26 should be okay. preorders for books that come out after that - or whose dates are pushed back by their publishers - you may want to cancel, but they do say they'll refund you if they're unable to ship your order when the day comes.
for more details, see their FAQ page about the closure
the good news is, it looks like Blackwell's (UK) now offers free international shipping. here's their shipping page for details.
hopefully this means Book Depository closing won't hit as hard as it otherwise would have. free international shipping makes books so much more accessible to so many more readers.
here's the link to Blackwell's main site

Shoutout to the guy at the Waterstones counter one time a year or so ago who looked me up and down then said “I’m gonna assume you have a loyalty card”. Like yeah I was buying 7 books but still

I totally understand that a lot of people get serotonin from just buying books for a physical TBR list but also that must be sooo much money?!
Personally I get the book(s) from the library and if I liked them THEN I’ll buy it so I can reread it and have a physical collection of the books I really enjoyed. I feel like it saves a lot and makes me way more proud with my little book collection.
This also helps support your local library!
It just makes more sense than wasting money on a book you might not like when you could save and buy a special edition of a favourite book or something.
Especially when I see those TikToks where someone turns around every book they haven’t read on their bookshelves and it’s it ends up being MOST of them.
No hate if buying books is your thing though, cause I also feel soo satisfied every time I leave Waterstones with anything, but just a thought I had.

Books should NOT have the same covers by different publishers. I bought the sequel to a book I already own in the bookstore and the covers matched so it seemed fine. NO.
One is published by Little Brown. The other by Penguin Books.
And you know what's (not) funny?
This same thing happened before with a different series. BY THE SAME AUTHOR WITH THE SAME PUBLISHERS

✨Thank penguinbookssea for being so kind for sending me Until Morning by Joyce Chua.
✨I was sent another book too but I’ll be featuring that one in a few days from now.
✨ Actually there will be a few book features this week so please bear in mind and I will try to add some book reviews this week. I just need to still take some new photos (or maybe reuse some?) and edit. So, there may be double posts from me. ☺️
✨Let’s talk about Just Morning by Joyce Chua. I am hoping to get around to it very soon since my mood has been struggling lately and I can barely concentrate on reading. But this sounds really good.
✨Just Morning is marketed as for fans of Letters to the Lost by Brigid Kemmerer and You Reached Sam by Dustin Thao.
✨We meet our FMC Lexi who feels like she has met her soulmate but the problem is: he doesn’t even know who she is and she technically doesn’t know him either. He goes by the name Night and is an elusive street artist. Lexi ends up in a coma following a car accident and finds herself wandering Night’s paintings and his childhood memories. Then, there is Christopher who keeps having these dreams with a free-spirted girl name Lexi. Fate brings them together when Christopher’s dad plans to take over the land of Lexi’s fathers inn and Chris has to face the decision of staying loyal to his father or helping Lexi return back to her life.
✨Until Morning is around 250ish pages and came out on September 12th. I think this will be a fast, emotional read and I’ll update everyone once I get around to reading it.
