Researchers at the University of California, Irvine recently uncovered strong evidence that enriching the air with fragrances improves cognitive performance by strengthening a critical connection between neurological areas involving memory and decision-making. Their experiment, involving 43 men and women aged 60 to 85, suggests cognitive decline and conditions such as dementia might be slowed by simply diffusing a different choice of perfumes through the bedroom before bed each night. Keeping the old gray matter stimulated as we age is vital to maintaining good cognitive health. That doesn't just mean keeping up with the daily crossword – it means peppering our environment with all kinds of sights and sounds for the brain to chew on.

The Neuroanatomy of ADHD (recommend to watch on 1.25 speed)
Part of Dr Russel Barkley's talk about the neuroanatomy of ADHD, touching on topics of Working Memory, Motivation, Timing, and Emotional regulation. The full talk is also available on YouTube if you want to listen to it all.
I found his work very useful in understanding more about how ADHD can affect the 'expected' working functions of the brain. By being able to pin down more specifically the ways in which my brain differs from the typical, I feel better equipped to find and develop accommodations that actually work to combat them and also to accept and understand more about myself.

The Abstraction Gap: Understanding the Relationship Between Biological and Artificial Neural Networks
The human brain is a complex and intricate organ capable of producing a wide range of behaviors essential to our daily lives. From the simplest reflexes to the most complex cognitive functions, brain activity is a dynamic and ever-changing process that is still not fully understood. Advances in neuroscience and artificial intelligence have led to a new perspective on brain function that emphasizes the importance of emergent dynamics in the generation of complex behaviors.
Emergent dynamics refers to the collective behavior that arises from the interactions of individual components in a complex system. In the context of the brain, emergent dynamics refers to the complex patterns of activity that arise from the interactions of billions of neurons. These patterns of activity lead to a wide range of behaviors, from the movement of our limbs to the perception of the world around us.
One of the most important challenges in understanding brain function is the time warp problem. This problem occurs when the cadence of a stimulus pattern varies significantly, making it difficult for artificial intelligence systems to recognize patterns. Neuroscientific evidence has shown that the brain can easily solve the time warp problem. This is due to the brain's emergent dynamics, which allows it to recognize patterns that are not fixed in time but dynamic and can change in tempo.
In the context of artificial neural networks, the concept of emergent dynamics can be applied to develop more sophisticated artificial intelligence systems that can learn and adapt in complex environments. By understanding the collective dynamics of neurons in the brain, researchers may be able to develop artificial neural networks that can detect and respond to time-varying stimulus patterns, develop goal-directed motor behavior, and even perform simple reasoning and problem-solving tasks.
The relationship between abstraction and scalability in neural networks is complex. While artificial neural networks can be scaled to handle large amounts of data, they lack the ability to abstract from the details of the input data, which is a key feature of biological neural networks. To bridge this gap, researchers must prioritize developing artificial neural networks that operate at higher levels of abstraction, allowing them to efficiently process and represent complex information.
The emergence of complex behaviors in the brain is a fundamental aspect of its function. By understanding the collective dynamics of neurons in the brain, researchers may be able to develop more sophisticated artificial intelligence systems that can learn and adapt in complex environments.
The implications of emergent dynamics for brain function and artificial intelligence are significant. By applying the concept of emergent dynamics to artificial neural networks, researchers may be able to develop more sophisticated artificial intelligence systems that can detect and respond to time-varying stimulus patterns, develop goal-directed motor behavior, and perform simple reasoning and problem-solving tasks.

When all else fails,
repeatedly lift heavy things off the floor. Then pull heavy things down to your chest. Follow it all up by rucking with 40# on your back for 5 miles.
Finally, come home and have a Scottish Shower.
My hamstrings and glutes are currently on fire. I could use a massage to break up the IT bands in my quads. I could also use a happy ending to that massage, you know for the dopamine.

Do you hear what I see? How blindness changes how you process the sound of movement
👁️‍🗨️ Fascinating study reveals how blind people excel in auditory motion detection, offering insights into the brain's adaptability. Learn about this groundbreaking research in sensory perception. #AuditoryMotion #BrainScience #SensoryPerception
Ione Fine, University of Washington and Woon Ju Park, University of Washington Almost nothing in the world is still. Toddlers dash across the living room. Cars zip across the street. Motion is one of the most important features in the environment; the ability to predict the movement of objects in the world is often directly related to survival – whether it’s a gazelle detecting the slow creep of…

Hey. Your brain needs to de-frag. Literally it needs you to sit there and space out.
If you want your memory or executive function to improve, stare out a window at the skyline or sidewalk or trees or birds on the electrical wires for like 20+ minutes per day. (With no other stimulation like a podcast or TV if you can manage but hey baby steps innit). If you're fortunate enough to have safe outside with any bits of nature, go stare closely at a 1 meter square of grass and trip out on the bugs and shapes of grasses and stuff.
Literally this will make you smarter. Our brains HAVE TO HAVE this zone out time to do important stuff behind the scenes. This does not happen during sleep, it's something else.
That weird pressurized feeling you get sometimes might be your brain on no defrag.
Give your brain a Daily Dose Of De-Frag.

Are You Struggling with Focus or Memory Lapses? Discover Natural Supplements That Can Help
Tumblr media
In our fast-paced, information-saturated world, maintaining optimal brain function is more crucial than ever. Whether you're a student facing exams, a professional juggling multiple tasks, or simply someone aiming to preserve cognitive health, the quest for effective, natural ways to enhance memory, focus, and overall brain vitality is paramount. The article "Natural Supplements to Boost Brain Function" from Nootropics Planet delves into this topic, exploring how certain supplements can support cognitive performance.
The article emphasizes the importance of understanding brain function and the factors that influence it, such as nutrition, lifestyle, and environmental elements. It highlights the role of neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and acetylcholine in mood regulation, attention, and memory, and how imbalances can lead to cognitive issues. Natural supplements can aid in balancing these neurotransmitters, thereby enhancing mental clarity and emotional stability.
Key vitamins are spotlighted for their roles in memory and focus. The B-vitamin complex, including B6, B9 (folate), and B12, is crucial for neurotransmitter production and energy metabolism within brain cells. Deficiencies in these vitamins can lead to mood disorders and cognitive impairments. The article also discusses how environmental and lifestyle factors like stress, poor diet, and lack of sleep can negatively impact brain health, and how supplements can mitigate these effects.
For those interested in exploring natural ways to boost brain function, this article provides a comprehensive overview of how supplements can support cognitive health. It serves as a valuable resource for anyone looking to enhance their mental performance through natural means.
