Sometimes when we are afraid we have to center ourselves. Take deep and slow breathes, remind yourself who you are, and where you are. Feel the world beneath your feet and know you are connected to earth and it will hold you steady. Now go make that phone call you’re avoiding, I see you.

I set so many alarms and reminders.
Alarms to get up. Alarms to tell me to go to bed. Alarms to time my lunch break. Alarms to remind me I'm making tea. Calendar reminders to put the bins out and to pay bills. A timer to go off to make me start a task. A timer to make me stop a task.
And yet I am still able to snooze them all.

why does no one care to help me manage my adhd? why does everyone insist i can do things just because it's possible? what if it's not possible? what if it could have been better and fulfilling instead of half-baked and disappointing?
at the end of the day, when i fail at succeding and meeting standards, they'll blame me for not trying hard enough when it was them who never even tried to help me help myself... no matter how many times i asked. when i eventually cry about it, they come back to me later to ask if i'm feeling better so that they can go back to ignoring the issue without guilt.
what is so hard about caring? what is so hard about believing in my struggle?
i want to want to give up, but i can't. i want to give up because none of this makes sense, and i'm shit at it, but i can't because it won't make sense either way.
life, i don't know how to fit into it, but i'm here. i have to figure it out little by little. even if that unfortunately means disappointing everyone and myself. even if it means getting looked down for being something they don't want to understand.

Anyone else suffer from task avoidance to a truly absurd degree, even for shit you actually really want to do and find fun?
Like for me it's so often like want to partake in the divine act of creation in any way whatsoever? Task avoidance. Track down that slasher flick you've been meaning to watch on your laptop and watch it? Task avoidance. Message that friend you haven't spoken to in a week that's been missing you? Task. Avoidance.
Better scroll through Tumblr for 6 hours instead 🙃

Writing Tips
Best hack to avoid writing (works better than house cleaning or video games!):
Get a cat that really enjoys being held in your arms, both arms, tightly against your chest. Preferably while you are sitting at your desk. Extra bonus points if the cat wants you to hold its paws in your hands.
Also works well for art avoidance and knitting procastination.

I wonder if I can just give people a little note with "what I wanted to make you for xmas/bday/random gift if I didn't have such terrible time management skills and almost no follow through on tasks"
I love my friends and I'm always thinking of things I'd like to craft or create for them but I never get my shit together to finish them. The worst one was finding the shirt I got my for my Dad, and started an embroidery of a little bat on the pocket. He passed away and I never finished it for him.

Sometimes I just don't know what to do. I sit here thinking that it will just come to me.
Come to me. Like a little lark on the wind. A message in a bottle rolling up the sidewalk to the gutter of my mind.
I've waited all this time for you, I'd say.
I'd look at that message. That message I've been waiting for and I'd think to myself., I waited all this time...for it to be that?
What if I change my mind right then? I'd know exactly what I want to do suddenly.
That's how my brain works about everything.

I made MYSELF a chore board featuring my enamel pin collection.
In part because of this specific post, I'm trying positive reinforcement to help with my ADHD -- ADHD paralysis and task avoidance. I've seen positive results over the course of 2 weeks (we'll see how well I keep up with it).
ADHD features issues with dopamine regulation. This gives me a little dopamine hit!

i literally love when people realize positive reinforcement works like yes its so silly isnt it. but it literally works humans love juice reward too

If I’m avoiding a task
That somehow i need to do
It’s probably because the task is 1, uncomfortable. 2, confronting. 3, you feel at risk somehow if you do it
1. Make it more comfortable, or increase comfort outside of the tasks. Listen to music, cosy chair, be kind to yourself. Try to avoid white-knuckling, “pushing through”, if you are craving comfort, those attitudes might repel you even more from the task
2. Seek help or talk with someone you trust about the issue. Perhaps there is deeper fears in there. If you feel confronted by it, this is the time where you might need more energy - more fire. Energetic music, stimulating environments (do you like working outside the house perhaps?), consider this.
3. If you are noticing an aversion and don’t know why, and its because you feel that doing the task might place you at risk, it’s worth talking to a therapeutic support or seeking your own healing session of your own modality, to explore this. There is always a way to do things that is safe for us. If its not safe to do, it might not need doing just now, or in that way.

Sometimes this works as task avoidance bait.
You need to do A Thing. Thing is Difficult, but something Necessary.
There's always also A Horrible Mundane Task that you can be relied on to avoid. The kind of thing that takes days to work up to, but really isn't that hard, you just Hate It. Say, Mopping the Floor. (not something like "I need to clean my desk" which we've all used to avoid other stuff)
So, if you prep to do both and focus on Mopping, even think, "I have to mop this floor before I get to deal with A Thing," you can sometimes trick your task avoidance into going : HEY WE DON'T HAVE TO MOP Not right now. We can do A Thing instead!
Sometimes this even works.
funniest adhd thing is when you're like ugh. doing this simple task would be too hard. guess i'll do a difficult one instead
