Hello everyone! Apologies again for the radio silence, maybe I'll actually come back this time? Anyway today I'm on the tour for Lot and it is one i quite enjoyed! You can see a little of my review below, which can be found in full on my blog (link in bio). Thank you to Darkroom Tours and Atlantic Books for a copy of this book! [What a poignant and raw, emotional collection of voices. Lot is a short story assembly championing Black and Latinx working class voices, discussing racism, poverty, family, friendship and relationships. The stories felt strong, powerful and honest, really packing a punch. All of the narrators were men, which I found really interesting but I actually really enjoyed. I thought this was a great way to highlight toxic masculinity and the spotlight men can be put under in certain situations, and how harmful this can be. I felt really grateful for how this was portrayed in the narration. This book felt alive, the narrators were brutal and had me gasping at times, and I felt like I was breathing alongside the men I was reading about, living their stories alongside them. It really captured me. I liked the short story aspect, and the narrators changing occasionally kept me on my toes, however I did enjoy coming back to the same narrator. I know…these aren’t the right colors for #pridemonth but they are my #currentwip so they are what I have to share. I got the pattern and the yarn 🧶 from @michaelsstores Now, the book is called #memorial by #bryanwashington and I just started it a few days ago. I was intrigued by the unusual storyline. A couple, Mike and Benson, are in the midst of deciding where their relationship is going when Mike travels to Japan to be with his dying father while Benson must stay behind to be there for Mike’s Mother who had already been scheduled for a visit. I had so much anxiety just reading the tension in the beginning, but as the story truly begins now, I want to know more about each of the characters making it hard to put down. I know it’s Buzzfeed, but this is the first time I’ve seen someone actually articulate how I’ve been feeling about this whole thing.

These constellations are made up of sex workers working outside spheres of widely marketable sexuality — trans folks and larger folks and older folks and PoCs among them — who will lose another of their few remaining online platforms, and creators who are working in story forms outside of their fields’ dominant narratives: love stories that are gentler and browner and gayer, or narratives centering asexual folks or polyamorous folks or characters living outside of a tidy cis, white, heterosexual marriage-track footpath. It shuts the door on people, of all backgrounds, looking to connect based off of shared interests, some of which might, let’s say, loop from biophysics to philosophy to Yuri on Ice to fucking. It eliminates a resource for people looking for relatable porn they can’t find anywhere else. Or, I think, less dramatically, but most significantly, anyone who’s just begun to broach the question of who they actually fucking are. The ban’s collateral damage is indiscriminate, and the solution for a very specific problem has been administered with all the delicacy of a blowtorch.

I’m not sure what to say that hasn’t already been said, but here goes.

I don’t tend to post NSFW content, and if I’m being candid, the vast majority of the adult material I consume is widely available elsewhere on the internet.  In other words, while I’m opposed to the censorship of “inappropriate” content, it hardly effects me or how I use this platform.

That said, I really feel for the people who have come to rely on Tumblr as a place to express themselves and their sexuality.  Already, this place is starting to feel like a less kind, less inclusive place.

Hello everyone, hope your week has got off to a great start, I’m enjoying some much needed family time staying at my mum’s with @chrissireads 🥰 Time for another book haul methinks? 😉 I’ve almost caught up with the books I bought before I imposed a book buying ban on myself. My new ban means I’m only allowed to buy books if I have vouchers to spend. Believe me, I need it. I currently have 962 unread books in my house 😂 Memorial looks wonderful. It follows two young guys, Benson, a black day care teacher and Mike, a Japanese American chef at a pivotal point in their relationship. Mike flies to Osaka as his estranged father is dying as his acerbic mother arrives in Texas for a visit and to stay with Benson. Described as funny, sexy and profound, this looks like such an interesting read. Meet Me In Another Life follows Thora and Santi who are strangers but meet by chance until a tragic accident cuts their story short. However, they are destined to meet time and time again as they become friends, colleagues, lovers and enemies. Finally, Brood. I resisted buying this for so long but I feel gravitationally pulled towards it! Described as a darkly witty, deeply moving and startling original debut novel of motherhood and grief, full of sorrow, joy and unrelenting hope, this looked too intriguing to pass up upon. I was riding back from football practice with a friend, something my folks weren’t in the habit of letting me do.
