VI. ON OBSESSION

the most glaring trait is how he expresses any kind of affection or infatuation. take the latter, for example: when he falls for someone he does so in the most intense, immoderate and unhealthy way; he will not be above using the goetia arsenal at his disposal to manipulate and keep them bound to him: his power(s), social status & influence, wealth, knowledge and cunning. he may even lord something over them, like his grimoire with blitzø if he believes the other to be a particularly tough nut to crack. it is all kinds of wrong wrong wrong!

he does not relent easily and will shamelessly display obsessive behaviours such as keeping tabs on them by means of magic and connections, showing up unannounced, blowing up their phone, courting and seducing them enthusiastically, offering a contract etc. and just generally being rather pushy. he is not always subtle with it either - with blitzø, for example, he is openly scandalous, and in a way it's also because he wants to see how much he can get away with.

it's hunger, yearning, obsession, boredom and desperation all wrapped up in a terrible beast created by aeons of repression / unhealthy ways of managing his emotions, ingrained infernal behaviours, as well as no real examples of healthy relationships. that and ... he is a demon, an apex predator, and therefore indulges in skewed morals by definition. he basically behaves as if he is hunting them, and is not satisfied until they are snatched up and held fast in his claws, until he can devour them metaphorically and irrefutably own every part of them, tear their pretty mind wide open and gaze lovingly at every little detail.

it's a demonic belief that everyone has a price, that he can buy most people's loyalty and company like his own father did for him; but that isn't to say he doesn't appreciate a less transactional relationship: in fact he much prefers it when the objects of his affections willingly choose to indulge him, and he does not need to bind them through contracts or by any other means.

in time he has learnt to appreciate choice (that which he lacked when his own marriage was arranged) : there is nothing sexier than adoring loyalty but he does thoroughly enjoy the hunt.

tldr; he desperately wants to be loved but ... he only knows to offer a twisted imitation of it, like everything in hell.

I really love the gold details he has! It's so fitting tbh. Colt deserves to be (even more) pretty. I am gonna miss the sharper star on his back, but it's a fair tradeoff.

I know his hair also got a touch up? But I've only glanced at it and didn't notice it, so I'd say whenever he gets a haircut, Shelly doesn't even blink. He's just fiddling with his hair like usual.

I hope more older brawlers get a subtle touch up like that! It's a good way to update the characters without a whole (sometimes jarring) redesign.

Warning discussion of the recent JJK manga chapters and previous arcs. MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD (and I’m sorry idk how to do the read more thing on here)

I’m dissatisfied and worried by this weeks chapter of JJK. The sentiment of “I like it when a character steals the show” is one thing, but just having a character take center stage out of the blue is a different story. I’ve been burned before so I hope it doesn’t end up like this, but I’m worried this is going to turn out like the last season of Game of Thrones. Like you do all this plot and character development and then abandon it at the last moment just to defy expectations which ultimately just makes your story worse. In this case I don’t think it’s about defying expectations intentionally, but I think Gege just genuinely hates Gojo so much that they’re nerfing the story. From my perspective, JJK has always been Gojo’s story. Like he’s not the protagonist but he’s the central character to the narrative. His relationship with Suguru, and now with the shade of Suguru that is Kenjaku, is what made all of this possible because of the Star plasma vessel mission. I genuinely don’t think that Gojo should have been brought back yet or at least that he shouldn’t have fought Sukuna. I kind of think the manga would be better if he never fought Sukuna now or any other time. I hope this fight is good, at this point anything could happen and I’ll keep my fingers crossed that I’ll like it, but I’m not excited for it. In fact I’m kind of angry because to me this should be Gojo’s fight. It still could be who freaking knows at this point, but to me this should be Gojo trying to reclaim Suguru’s body and finally give him rest and have closure for himself. Like I know I’m insane for Gojo but I also just genuinely think that’s what would be most narratively satisfying. Which would make Sukuna a fight for Yuji and the Jujutsu tech kids. I don’t know if that one would hold up in court but I’ll stand by the Gojo stuff. I don’t know, I just hate to see potential go to waste and it’s starting to feel more and more like that’s where JJK is heading. I genuinely, desperately hope not. But I’ve been hoping they’d say sike for months now and it feels less and less likely each week.

Watching the anime makes it even worse because there are so many moments that could pay off so well or lead to excellent parallels that just… haven’t. They still could, but with Gojo “dead” and showing no signs of return, Megumi in Sukuna purgatory, nobara in eyeball purgatory, so many characters forgotten off screen, and Yuji just having no screen time I’m just having trouble staying invested. Gege made me care for these guys!! And for the potential of a plot with them facing what Kenjaku had planned!! But the culling game was so weird and confusing and what’s happening now feels like they’re pulling at straws!! Like did they just not have it planned out this far?? Ouhg. Like I said I hope I’m wrong, I’d love to be wrong. I just needed to vent about this because the Shibuya arc is genuinely an excellent piece of writing. It’s devastating and sets up so much room for potential consequences and growth. And, so far at least, the results have not met up to that excellent set up. I wish them the best and I hope they stick the landing, but I’m not nearly as excited or invested as I once was.

(i am. open to hear about speculation if you have any). also i figured that Kanaya would go to the brooding caverns after her lusus dies, bc the wiki said her lusus would die regardless of the game taking place n whatever, and probaly do something with the matriorb there idk. thats all tho! ill prolly draw them more and maybe develop more lore as i do ^^;

also! fun fact. i was having trouble designing kk's outfit so i looked in an old antiques catalog book from the internet archive to get inspiration from objects that had the same colors as those that i wanted to use in his design? not sure why i did that. just had a hunch that it would be fun. so this is the object i found that strangely enough inspired kk's fit

haha.. and i also found one for nepeta, though it was easier to design her fit and i didnt actually need a reference object

Unnamed Western WIP Snippet

[Author's Note: This is a VERY rough draft. Very first draft actually. I am sure there are typos, and other BS. I am just trying to share a little. I hope it is enjoyable despite it all. Most of it is under the cut.]

Seven Years Ago

There came a wind that whistled through the tiny cracks between the wood of the cabin’s walls, bringing with it a chill that caused tiny pin-prick bumps to cover Alexandra’s arms. A small fire in that old cast-iron stove crackled and hissed as it burned away all the volatile elements in the dried-out firewood within. On top, bubbling softly, a small pot filled with the strong, bitter coffee that she had grown so fond of; mother didn’t like it, but it was something she shared in common with father. One of many things.

Despite its relatively tiny size, there exuded a lonely kind of way from it. With just herself, and this cruel, frozen winter, leaving her to just her thoughts. What has come to mind over and over again is a desire for more. To do more, to earn more than just squeaking out a sort of life day-to-day.

At the foot of her parents’ bed, sat a weathered chest, bound by iron and locked since Father passed. And in truth, Alexandra had never looked in it. Both Mother and Father never let her look within, yet as she stared at it from her perch on the rocking chair. She stood up, there were no other family, no siblings, or uncles, or aunts, or grandparents. Everything that belonged, and would belong, to the O’Sullivan’s family, belonged to her. Despite lacking a key, she removed the Winchester rifle from off its rack on the wall. One solitary, solid strike from the butt hit with a thud, then another, and once more to finally cause the lock to break off and clatter onto the floor below.

Within were relics of Father’s forgotten and old life, before he met Mother and settled down here. From the life he lived by the gun, “a righteous man in an un-righteous time. Must bring about the judgement of the Lord,” he told Alexandra this one night when he was deep into the drink shortly after Mother’s death. His words still rung in her ears, “there is no greater calling, lass, than the culling of evil. That it pays well is just a bonus. To be taken care of both in this life and the next, nary a greater calling than that.”

Stuffed in an old, time-worn holster was the Colt Walker revolver that Father used to end the lives of so many bad-people that plague the relatively lawless lands. Despite its age, it still gleamed in the low light, as if freshly-polished and cleaned. On the left side of the wooden handle, there were twenty-six tally marks. She bit her bottom lip whilst pulling it from the soft confines of the holster. Stood up to hold the heavy, yet somehow, familiar weight of the rather long-barreled gun. Alex looked down its sights, pulled the trigger—having already checked that it was empty. Maybe this was meant to be, her destiny as well.

Wrapping the belt around her waist, pulled it taut and buckled it securely. Alexandra pushed the gun down back into its holster and squatted beside the chest again to go through the rest. An old photo of Father from before he met mother, still just as large as ever but youthful, seemed more careful and without a beard, a rather dashing fellow—Mother had good taste after all. Her face scrunched up at just the mere thought of thinking her father was handsome.

“Gross,” she said to the empty cabin.

Through the other mementos of a nostalgic past, of when the west was free for everyone and anyone without the encroachment of civilization from those posh, lazy folks east of the Mississippi, Alexandra found her father’s old, wide-brimmed rawhide that fit rather loose on her head. It didn’t matter to her. It felt right—it all felt too right. As if this was her calling, perhaps the blood that ran her veins was the same that ran in the crusaders of old. The same that fought against the darkness, to keep it at bay so the light could live and grow.

His hat still smelled of him: deep, richness of tobacco and the beautiful astringent peat of the scotch father would constantly take a nip of. The thick woolen Union jacket, just as warm and comfortable as the day it was made, smelled of his comfort and kindness, of his fierceness and his sense of duty. When Alexandra wrapped it around her shoulders and pulled it tight across her chest., it felt like a strong, loving hug—almost.

Knock-knock-knock! A heavy hand almost beat on the door.

“Alexandra! I need my rent money, or I have to call upon the sheriff. I do not want to do that,” Old Man Jackson’s gruff voice carried with it both authority and sincerity.

With a deep breath, she stood up and walked over to the door and pulled it open. “Come in, please. I don’t have your money, but I am a-thinking of leaving anyways.” Alex pulled out a chair as she walked over to the stove. “Coffee? Get a bit of that chill off the bones, sir.”

“Please and thank you,” a puzzle expression crossed Old Man Jackson’s weathered face as he spoke. “What do you mean you are leaving? I am pretty sure your parents would have wanted you to settle. Start a family. Turn the land into something fruitful. We can talk over new terms, if’n it helps. Get you the deed over time.”

With a warm-hearted smile, Alexandra placed the steaming mug of coffee in front of the man and sat down across from him. “No, I appreciate it, but there’s something burning deep inside. These lands are in desperate need for a righteous soul—”

“In such an unrighteous time.”

“—aye, yes.”

The old man, who had seen more sunrises than most ever will, took a long drink from the coffee and thanked the young woman for the libation. “I’ve known your family a long, long time. Longer than even your mother knew. Did your father ever speak on our history?”

Alex shook her head and leaned forward, elbows on the table.

“Figured not. No one likes to speak of the bleakness, even if done for good reasons. We used to ride together. Hell, I taught him about the bounty hunter business. When he was still fresh-faced, hardened by the war. As we all were then. No side won that shit show, and all got broken up over it. It’s why everything is so…well, more people like you would not be a bad thing.

Listen up, okay? I want to tell you about the time your father and I took down Black Hat Bailey and his Psycho gang. It all started when Red Rock Mines were raided, dozens killed, more raped and wounded…”

The Biggest Problem With Hazbin Hotel's Rehabilitation Mentality Is Trying To Make All Sinners Victims Instead Of Owning Up To Their Own Sins

I think the biggest problem with Hazbin Hotel rehabilitation mentality is that they focus in on how sinners are victim of circumstances rather than owning up to their problems and changing themselves. I think the biggest thing with this series is the fact that they think the problem is society instead of someone's own issues how they got into hell.

One of the first indications of this bs is making it out that Lucifer and Lilith were just misunderstood dreamers were against a strict ignoring that they caused sin in the world and caused help humanity's downfall. But the narrative ignores that fact and tries to treat them as victims of heaven, so we can have Lucifer as a misunderstood sad boy instead of how in the Bible he was jealous of humanity and wanted to bring it down with him due to God's love for them. A misunderstood sad boy wouldn't do this type of shit and Vivziepop selling it a load of it.

I know this is going to be controversial but I think Angel Dust is hindered as a character but not focusing on what got him into hell. And it wasn't just the drugs and sex, because he did kill people and some of them probably didn't end up in hell. So just imagine him being sent to heaven and his former victims recognized him for his crimes and until now showed repentance. However, the narrative even then doesn't focus on that fact but the idea he's a total victim and doesn't show part of his way to redemption is get his life back together and admit he's done shit where he wasn't the victim but the victimizer. One could say he was put through that life, but then again show his sister is in heaven and that she chose a life of virtue and made it. So, he has no excuse of his dad or brother getting himself into hell except himself and he needs to work on it. Even if he's a victim to Valentino, he still is a victimizer in someone else's eyes who recognizes him decades ago.

And I am also going to say this the Extermination is used as a way to have all of hell be turned into pitied victims that you forget a lot of them are in hell for a reason. And even more they are doing antics that got them probably into hell like murder, sex, and other types of depravity. While not all sinners are on the same level, the exterminations as a whole just i used to make you forget that they are there for a reason and erase that there is a reason they weren't given a chance into heaven. Seriously, Emily herself called them innocent souls when in any other scene they are far from innocent and the reason why Adam is depicted as a one note villain is because they can't fathom the idea that maybe the Extermination could be used to cull the worst sinners or something.

I think the biggest problem with Hazbin Hotel's every sinner is really a victim it comes ironically counter to finding redemption. A show which Vivziepop says she inspires from but she completely misses the point is Bojack. She says she's watched it but the biggest point of the show just because you are the victim doesn't give you an excuse to act like a total jackass to others and not own up to your mistakes. The problem is Habzin Hotel never lets anyone own up because they have to play victims, especially any character favored by Vivziepop. Redemption doesn't come from seeing yourself as a victim, but recognizing your own mistakes and how to reform from them. And frankly I didn't see Angel Dust want to reform from his mistakes, but just want a home away from Val. The problem is that Hazbin Hotel is about enforcing victimhood instead of owning up that you did bad things and need to change. An excuse for your behavior is still not fully an excuse and you need to own up to your actions.

Mhm, I mean even the comic book writers either can't or refuse to keep it coherent for personal reasons.IE, sometimes they lack reference material or awareness, other times they deliberately ignore it out of spite. I could list examples but we'd bee here all day.

I myself tend to basically do it like:

Tier 1 Canon = Debuts, major story lines that remain coherent with their debuts, case centric comics that don't contradict the two prior.

Tier 2 Canon = Major story lines. that are consistent with prior comics.

Tier 3 Canon = case centric comics that don't contradict the two prior.

Anything below that list is basically pick and choose what to keep or cull. I do it like this because debuts tend to be a characters best foot forward and before behind the scenes BS starts flubbing them up.

Stephanie Brown & Orpheus both got amazing debuts, but as they got folded into Tim & Bruce's shadow, they suffered for it. Similarly, Jason's return as Red Hood & twin debuts as Robin prior and post crisis all make him look exceptionally smart, interesting & in the latter cases, very good hearted.

Thus they serve as a strong basis to refute stuff that is contradictory to them without due set up. IE, Tim insisting Jason was always a blunt instrument, or stupid & reckless, runs contrary to to all three debuts, so I ignore Tim.

Major story lines are a bit more fifty fifty, as some rely very much on ignoring pre-established characterization or skills & doing no set up to justify 'why' the character is suddenly evil or incompetent. But the one's that don't mess them up or put in the leg work to establish why they are such a mess (Dick's time in the Mob) can be really GOOD.

Meanwhile case comics that don't contradict is pretty self explanatory XD You can pick up lots of fun little tidbits and characteristics & see them when operating in a comparatively mundane scenario to "All the drama".

Low key this is also why everything post I think new 52 has been harder to keep up with cos they keep rebooting every few years. Prior to that the comics had like a 30 year run with no real reboots. Afterwards, they keep happening so getting a sense for the status quo is hard as hell & often characters get shuffled in or around with revised backstories. IE, Jason's integration into the Batfam was rather glossed over & presented very inconsistently. So for many its easier to stick to the older version or just keep him as a crime boss.

The Center for Biological Diversity filed a lawsuit today challenging the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s decision to classify the world’s last wild population of red wolves as ‘nonessential.’

The red wolf is listed as endangered under the Endangered Species Act and is among the most imperiled species in the world. Just 13 known wild red wolves survive in eastern North Carolina.

“It’s absurd for the Fish and Wildlife Service to conclude that the world’s last wild population of red wolves isn’t essential,” said Perrin de Jong, Southeast staff attorney at the Center. “It’s time for the agency to acknowledge that this persecuted population of endangered wolves is an irreplaceable part of Southeastern ecosystems. These severely imperiled animals deserve the highest level of protection.”

Today’s lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina, notes that the Endangered Species Act defines an experimental population as ‘essential’ if the loss of the population would significantly reduce the likelihood of the species’ survival in the wild. Because the red wolf experimental population is the only wild population of the species, its loss would eliminate the species from the wild.

The law therefore compels the Service to designate the population as ‘essential’ and provide greater protections to the red wolves, the suit notes.

Sadly, Iam caught up with canon and the horrendous rollercoaster that is gege akutami's creative writing choices. I know I don't rant much about jjk but I honestly plan to start doing that, I am just busy at the moment and I am making character analysis and all before ranting about leaks like I do with MHA.

In all honesty I have always had problems with gege's writing here and there but they have never been big enough until we reached the culling games and the nonsense that happens after it.

The 261 leaks are disastrous and a huge disappointment. Look I really don't mind if Gojo came back or died but I truly despise the way he chose to make yuta hella overpowered. I did like the fact that we got an acknowledgement of how society has dehumanised Gojo by making him the strongest but you would think that a story about the younger generation breaking cycles they wouldnt choose another hierarchy type system but in the end they do? Yuta coming back in gojos body was what I hated most really like I liked yuta acknowledging gojos feelings and all but Dam I don't know what gege was thinking here.

Iam afraid that gege has forgotten about megumi and nobara. Like Iam pretty sure megumi has taken a lot of damage so him coming out miraculously unscathed would just be bs plot armour and all. On the other hand, the way you're telling me after like 100+ chapters of no mention of Todo he comes back? And then we just forget completely about nobara?!?!?! It's infuriating.

Also my final mention is what gege truly plans with yuji itadori. Look I get that geges writing of his MC doesn't follow the traditional shonen MC formula which is something I really like but I genuinely expected for yuji to be the one to fight from right on here and we get more of megumi (heck even insert nobara) instead we get yuji sidelined and we get yuta in gojos body. At least if it was nobara coming into the battle of would at least work because she is close to yuji and it's basically the trio reuniting with eachother in a cruel way.

Yeah, we know he can regrow limbs, but taking into account that Gege hates him, I highly doubt he'll come back from this. I've seen a lot of people saying that this whole "going North or going South" that Nanami mentions might hint that Gojo is coming back because he said goodbye to his dead friends and didn't choose a direction but-

I don't know. It's Gege we're talking about.

However, I'm glad you feel confident. Truly. I do think the Toji thing is a very good point, but at this point with all the bs Gege has been pulling out basically since The Culling Games... I guess I'm saying I don't trust him because plot-wise, we have nothing. And it shows.

Gege got Gojo out of the box when they did because they feared (more) people would stop reading JJK. It wasn't because it was right for the plot, because they planned it like that, or even because the timing was right. Gege got him out of the box because people were done with the series, and The Culling Games were literally getting nowhere.

The funny thing about this is how you create such an overpowered character knowing that he will be very difficult to remove, and then you hate him. You despise him. As if it hadn't been you that created him in the first place. And I am mentioning this because it is very clear with this shitshow of a fight that Gege was pulling things out of their ass to see how he could actually manage to kill Gojo off. But they couldn't. That's why we had this whole "oh he might die this chapter" and then "nah, he's fine".
