Yandere request for our lovable mad dogs ! HCs being rejected or worse friendzone by the reader , how do you think their would react ? 😈
Tumblr media
This is like 50% of my effort help.
Tw: Murder (a shit ton), brief moment of manipulation, kidnapping
Yandere Turtles being Friendzoned by MC
✦Rotting Apple Hanging on the Eiffel Tower ✦
Takes it pretty well.
Sure he's hurt but it's not like you hate him! You just would rather be friends.
He doesn't pry and just accepts it as how it is; however, he will continue his dependent behaviors in a platonic fashion.
He'll still cling to you and get anxious if you're gone. If you ever stay the night at the lair (literally any day you don't have school or work) he's all cuddly.
He'll kill potential suitors though.
Sure, you may not see him in a romantic sense, but he won't let anyone else be seen in such a way either.
“Oh I’m sorry, I can’t believe your crush got smashed to death!”
✦Laugh Life Liver✦
Does not take it well at all.
He convinces himself that you're just confused about your feelings and need some extra affection and psychological misleading to unlock the romantic attraction you truly feel.
This means he'll find out exactly what your love language is, (if hasn't already figured it out) and figures out ways he could glorify himself.
For example, let's say it's quality time: he'll take you to Hidden City and go to fun places or in general, activities you enjoy that he can join in with.
If that doesn't work, he'll go for heavy manipulation. Additionally, he kills off anybody he suspects harbours or is receiving romantic attraction.
"So...What do you think of the new DLC? Fun, right? Like me?"
✦Danny DeVito✦
Doesn't accept it.
He exposed his entirety for you, and you now say you wish to not accept his love for you? He already struggles to express it enough, but being rejected? Ha, you really want to break his demeanour completely, don't you?
He'll first block everyone on your phone just so it makes things easier for him. Additionally, he'll kill many of your friends/people you're close with. He's not going to let you run with his heart in your clutches.
He'll kidnap you, holding a gift in his hands when you awaken. The room is completely decorated by trinkets and decorations of your favorite things like it was made for you. Which, it was.
"Dearest, don't you understand? If you had accepted my love, you never would have to go through this."
✦Madagascar Went Waka Waka Away From Africa✦
Accepts it.
If you do not see him in such ways then so be it. He's fine with being only friends because he still gets to be around you.
He'll be normal, nothing particularly odd other than the shrine he has of you. He might get jealous at times, but that's because he wants some affection.
But if someone else comes around (romantically), he'll be sure to whip out his nunchucks.
He doesn't believe anyone deserves you, and if this person trying to stain your righteousness, then he's going to eradicate them from this earth.
"You were never on the same level as them!"
——————————————————
It's been a while since I posted a request. Hopefully, I'll get back on track soon.

BEETLEJUICE BEETLEJUICE 2024
The juice is loose, and it made a splash! So I saw this movie a week after it released, and I'm very thankful for the fact it wasn't spoiled... But now it's been a week - this is officially your SPOILER WARNING. Go to the end if you just want to see my rating and no spoilers. 👋
Obviously, the original Beetlejuice is a classic. I always loved the original. It took a few decades to make this sequel, and it had big shoes to fill. What I will say is that they got the shoes on, but those shoes were pretty scuffed up. I will get into what I mean by that. They got the original cast back for this. They got Michael Keation. They got Catherine O'Hara (KEVIN!). They got back Winona Ryder... Fantastic! I'm happy to see them all back! Who wasn't there? Why Daddy Deetz! Jeffrey Jones was obviously not asked to film for this sequel... Don't know why? 😕 Google what happened, and it's a shame he would do that. What's also a shame? Is that they used photos of him (QUITE A BIT) and likeness to callback to the character. This ended up making me uncomfortable. I understand they want to keep continuity, but we all know you had to pay him to use his likeness... We've learned from Crispin Glover in Back to the Future... Hollywood is always keen on recasting. Should have done that to keep the story going. But I digress. So besides bringing back old characters, we also got some new ones! We got Lydia Deetz' defiant daughter Astrid, played by Jenna Ortega, Lydia's awkward self-absorbed fiance Rory, played by Justin Theroux, we got a murderous love interest for Astrid played by Arthur Conti, we got a murderous love interest for Beetlejuice played by Monica Belluci, we got.... jeez this a lot... we got Willem Dafoe, Danny Devito, and shrunken head BOB. That seemed a lot to you, too? Yeah, it was a lot to take in for us as well. I'm usually fair, but I would have completed cut out Monica Belluci because her character did nothing to add to the story. Danny Devitos cameo could have been quick and fun.
Besides that, it was a fun story, not a complete story, but I enjoyed the movie and soundtrack! Go for Keaton! Worth the watch!

Our Original v Live Action takes for pt. 1
Here is a collection of our own thoughts about where we would've voted on these first 9 polls:
The Little Mermaid: "Some parts the Animated & some parts the Live Action" because we will always have a soft spot for any of the animated movies and having Eric driving the ship into Ursula was always so cool, plus we hc that Eric was a spare (or further) Prince and not actually in line for the Crown. but there were subtle changes in the Live Action we adored, like Ariel forgetting about the Kiss as part of the curse and Eric's own collection. And hands down the best part was Jodie Benson handing over the dinglehopper to Halle Bailey.
Dumbo: "The Animated" mostly because it has been so long since we've seen this one. "Baby Mine" is so precious, heartbreaking, and beautiful. but there wasn't much else we remember. Except how adorable Dumbo looks! And not even Danny DeVito wasn't enough to get us into the Live Action.
101 Dalmatians: "Mostly the Animated Movie" because yes to the Animated forever, but there is no denying how amazing Glenn Close is as Cruella.
101 Sequels: "Some parts Animated & some Live Action/Both Equally" because they are two very different stories and each was very entertaining. Patch's was Bolt before Bolt, and Glenn Close loving the puppies?! Masterpieces.
Aladdin: "Mostly the Animated" because it is a classic, Robin Williams alone made it practically impossible for a copy-cat performance. We did appreciate the attempts bring out more of Jasmine in the Live Action.
Alice in Wonderland: "Mostly the Animated" this is because of who we associate the story with, and while there were fun parts of the live action, the animated is always going to win a competition.
The Parent Trap: "Some parts Hayley Mills & some parts Lindsay Lohan/Both Equally" This one is the ideal example of when we would like to just pick and choose some parts of one and some parts of the other to create the Ultimate (TM) Parent Trap Movie.
Sleeping Beauty (Maleficent): "Some parts Animated & some Live Action/Both Equally" If disny wants to go around making sympathetic-villain remakes of their classics, they should figure out exactly what Maleficent did right. The animated is so visually beautiful with an amazing soundtrack. And the Live Action really brought another side of the story to life, it was both different and still recognizable enough to stand on it's own.
Cinderella: "Mostly the Live Action" Look growing up Cinderella seemed over rated, always everyone's favorite. Later there grew an appreciation for the movie as it saved the company and Walt's reported favorite animation (the dress transformation). However the Live Action is almost perfect. Do we miss the talking mice, sure, but from the casting and costumes to the story, it was so *Cinderella* in essence. The "apprentice" cover and the dance and the swing and "dilly dilly" are all icing on the cake.

Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur
forcefully review as watched by Deluge
spoilers, obviously, but then again, I’m the one watching it for the first time.
I've been told this is the origin of Ultra Instinct Shaggy
It feels weird not to have the normal Scooby Doo intro theme, with this one having a Beatles pop rock like song.
Scooby and Shaggy really do get the short end of the stick a lot of the time.
I think this one is the first one on this list with Matthew Lillard that I've watched. and then the next being Lillard's first time as Shaggy.
Is coffee even good for dogs?
Shakey Joe is like high on coffee back there
Scooby channeling his inner Tassie Devil
THESES GUYS ARE STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL? OR AT LEAST COLLEGE?
The US Bureau of Supernatural Forces definitely exists purely for the gang to fuck with.
I was wondering why the GPS sounded familiar, It's John DiMaggio. though I'll be honest, I thought it sounded like Danny DeVito
God that barbeque looks sooooooo nice
I forget you guys call scones "biscuits"
Damn, they're giving Velma a love interest. I mean, they did with Mystery Inc with both Shaggy and HotDogWater. but still
They just happen to find a bone by being DOG
Winsor is like, almost identical wtf
The Phantosaur is here!
The action of this is definitely a lot more dramatic than all the others.
Yeah fuck up the Europeans!
The Psychedelia of this movie has much evident. I guess that's why the intro was so Beatles like.
I guess this movie really is early in their career, if Daphne's Tsundere about Fred.
Some wild theories by Daphne, but I'd expect nothing less.
ULTRA
INSTINCT
SHAAAAAAAAAGYYYYYYYYYYY!
Hahahaha. Dude punched himself to avoid Shaggy
Hmmmm Thaumtrope Mining Co really introducing the sus ones.
Daphne really knowing Fred won't be satisfied without a net catching someone.
Damn that's a really good RP idea. Daphne wearing fishnets to catch their significant other.
Velma in her own world but still being the brains for Daphne's Brawn. Pretty sure she's brawn, doesn't she have like martial arts training or something?
Daphne has motorbike experience, good to know
Scooby... please...
They really said that.
メニュー
Okay, Winsor, that's a little rude
Even thinking of the word bad breaks him out.
Biker gang actually being helpful with the gang.
There's two Phantosaurs.
Meddling kids ✅
Hmmm... Yeah it usually would take longer, and there's a whole half hour longer.
Oooh, Another mystery!
That thing didn't even bake, how did that decoy end up solid?
HOLY FUCK IS THE TOWN ON FIRE?
THE REAL PHANTOSAUR!
But probably using a souped up version of the Hypnomachine thing
YEAH BIKERS!
Oh my, it's the paleontologists
The paint stripper thing doesn't make sense, how the fuck does it get directed through the mouth?
Ahh, so it was a whole plot to get people out. just its for a keepsake giant dino and not the silver mine
Oh, they planted the paint strippers everywhere.
DAPHNE....
Superhuman strength to break off quartz. unless the strength of quartz is pretty bad.
Awfully long belt between three dudes. and probably the belts off of the professor.
Damn, Fred do be the heart of the team at this moment.
And there goes the whole town.
Or looks like just the main road.
Velma really asking him out after he leaves.
Probably shouldn't have all of them in the room
Wait so the meme of all of them dressed up as shaggy is from this movie?
Memes aside. Fun, exciting, really interesting mystery.
10/10

Aye I actually got to watch the episode tonight
Random 16x07 Notes I took while watching before scrolling my dash:
-Mac playing pool just like he plays hockey and bowls I see <3 something something putting too much power/pressure on things/being too forceful when you gotta guide the hockey puck like a little bowl of cream, or throw the bowling ball with gentle precision and finesse... something something previous years him putting too much pressure/force on Dennis but now...
-On a less conspiracy take note, I rewatched Mac’s Big Break recently and I find it fun how Charlie is just like better and knows more about sports and stuff like that and tells Mac what he has to do to play better. Also plays into this season’s theme of Charlie recurringly being the straight man, able to point out and notice things others don’t, but still being a bit of a helpless observer for the most part.
-Great Sharp title cut today, I should make a list of all the best ones/ones with best timing, I know one of the most iconic will always be Frank Sets Sweet Dee on Fire.
-The cackles and Charlie trying to mirror them <3 love that
-The horror sound effects when the McPoyles turn around and in the next few scenes are on point.
-Following that “Too many ideas, just stick with one” theme again just like in Celebrity Booze... interesting, very interesting. And what’s the main uniting idea that they want to stick it out with huh 👀 (or is it about the blend of ideas, the chili the cheese the fries.)
-Mac touches Den’s arm so much in this ep, they’re both very touchy, it’s nice to see them comfortable with that again.
-First time I’ve been able to watch the rip with commercials, Danny Devito Jersey Mike’s jump scare, how can I connect this to sunny he’s hiding behind the painting with the eyes cut out just like Dennis was in s15 and—*Jersey Mike himself drags me away*
-Dennis saying “it’s too sexually charged” while side eyeing Mac right next to him in frame like that, I don’t even need to comment
-Let’s go, Frank, slow and steady wins the race... slow like the structure, like 16 years wait.
-Artemis saying “hoor” like Frank does, okay, work it.
-Really interesting to me Charlie gets a strike without even needing to focus, something I wanted to say there but I don’t remember. We saw everyone else with their initial strategy and then psychologically affected to fail though and I wish we got to see Dennis in that context as well?
-Mac’s finesse ramble 🤝 Anya in Buffy “I have finesse coming out of my bottom!”
-“Just play the game and we’re gonna win, don’t spin, don’t do it.” This line I like because it feels very much in line with I’ve always been Dennis and you’re you you’ve always been you, and big mo again and just play the game and we’re gonna win, don’t spin, don’t do it, just be yourself, just be, just play.
-I can’t believe they cut off my man on his scream, the injustice! Anyway, gonna need more angst and pain from him, stat.
-Lick
-omg the McPoyle bowling scene was so much better than I expected, that was so funny. Also, Liam wants Dennis so bad.
-They should have trash twin telepathy stuff in this show more, let’s goo, they’re in each other’s heads, they’ve never been apart almost their whole life, we need Dee to figure out how to mess with Dennis’ head next.
-The cgi pin faces will haunt me, they also crashed my computer multiple times like the ep simply would not play beyond that scene.
———
Bonus: DTAMHD trailer thoughts
-Dennis having a new car when the old one is so inherently tied to his identity/the past, iCarly interesting.jpeg, trying to reconcile the new with the old and him not having control of it, a theme of control this season, who is in control? Charlie or Frank in the world of business? Dennis as Johnny? Aaron or Bryan... is it all an act? Is Mac...?
-Putting things under pressure so they become diamonds subplot to putting Dennis under pressure, I see you, I see you.

Mario Movie Sequel Fancasting!
Daisy- Ellie Kemper as stated in my previous post OR perhaps Brie Larson simply bc I know she’s a giant Mario fangirl and would have a ton of fun. She’s not technically an actress yet, but I also could totally imagine Taylor Tomlinson voicing her if she ever decides to bring her comedy chops to the big screen. Millie Bobby Brown’s another option I like though she’s probably a bit young, Kristin Schaal is a popular choice that I could definitely get behind.
Rosalina- my DREAM for this one would be Cate Blanchett, bc Rosalina is basically Space Galadriel. She’s probably a wee bit older than what they’ll skew though. I’d love to see them cast someone really ethereal and mysterious like Eva Green (heck back in her Addams Family days Angelica Huston’s voice would have been perfect) but as far as more mainstream options go I think Anne Hathaway, Keira Knightley or Elizabeth Olson could all pull it off. The anime lover in me would also LOVE to see what Colleen Clinkenbeard would do with the role
Wario- Danny Devito obviously
Waluigi- Personally I think that if Charles gets to play any of his original game roles it should be this one. I can live with Mario not sounding like Mario, but if Waluigi doesn’t sound like Waluigi than what is even the point. That said, I would also wholeheartedly accept John Mulaney. Pulling from my anime dubby background Todd Haberkorn and Jerry Jewel would probably have a blast with him too
I can’t think of any juniors off the top of my head so I really think they should give him to a newcomer

for decades, perhaps even centuries, the starting state of much of humanity has been "small and bald". most have only a fleeting grasp of this state. but some powerful individuals manage to stay that way even as they are buffeted by the sands of time..... and we as a society have honored them, by putting their likeness in films, and car toons. welcome, to the
FUNKY LITTLE BALD CHARACTER POLL
this is a poll to find out which, among the many funky little bald characters out there, is most beloved. there have been other bald character polls, but those have been geared towards such individuals as "Walter White" and "T Hanos". we dont want those guys. the ideal Funky Little Bald Character is as follows:
bald. obviously. they can be fully bald or just bald on top. they can also just have a design that evokes baldness. but a simple slightly-receded hairline will not cut it
little. physical shortness takes priority, however if a character is not short but fits all the other categories then they still may be eligible!
funky. characters who are fun and cool. characters you could hang out with. characters who are NOT going to attract discourse or make us read about atrocities. they can however be evil or mean if its funny edit: okay judging by a few early submissions the intended vibes here were not clear enough! we are looking for Just Standing Here types. background types. big personalities like dr eggman, while fantastic, do not quite fit the bill! can they be described as a funky little guy/gal/etc. that is what we are looking for
of any gender. though most characters in this genre are male, we will make it a priority to include others in the lineup. #baldEQUALITY
not a real person. sorry that we cant include real life actor danny devito. weve made him the header of the blog in compensation. characters played by danny devito (or other real people) are fine though, we would ideally like a diverse spread of media!
not a baby. thats cheating
other sought-after characteristics include Round Shaped and Wears Some Kind of Cloak Thing. is this all just a scheme to see more characters in the genre of bido from fullmetal alchemist? perchance. either way, submissions will be open for 2 weeks until the end of tuesday, may 9th! we reserve the right to pick and choose but we Will consider every candidate deeply. the size of the final bracket is entirely dependent on the number of submissions. here is the google form: https://forms.gle/s2a4CL4mDx4tgHi37

This was always my favorite of the trilogy.
Tumblr media
Yes. I am aware that it's the worst one. And the behind the scenes trivia is a real horrorshow.
HOWEVER
I didn't know that growing up. This was the one that didn't scare me. Frost creeped me out in the first one and I couldn't stand the sight of Nomak in the second. The scariest thing in this one was Drake and, while he did scare me a little, I could handle him. I liked the sillier moments, I thought Abigail Whistler was a badass, Hannibal King made me laugh, I could quote several lines, I loved Blade, and I would always sing Fatal whenever it played because that song SLAPS, and the scene where Drake goes to that vampire store and attacks the employees has always been my favorite part of the movie.
I thought Blade: Trinity was cool and that was all I needed at the time.
Also, around this time, the only live action Marvel/DC movies I watched on a regular basis were: Blade: Trinity, Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, Superman Returns, Joel Scumacher's Batman movies (Burton's movies scared me; specifically Jack Nicholson and Danny DeVito), the two Fantastic Four movies, X2 (the first and third one scared me), and Supergirl (the Helen Slater movie). Slim pickings, I know.
Even knowing about the awful production I can't help but love this movie. It's stupid and cheesy, but I have fun watching and remembering when this was genuinely one of my favorite movies.
Not to mention that I grew up to realize that King is hot as hell.

Even though I was planning on making a Big Bang Theory AU and a How I Met Your Mother AU for The 7D, now I decided not to, but I'm still gonna make text posts referencing those shows and other shows too. I have been obsessed with It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia since earlier this year, and maybe I could make an AU based on that show. The thing about Always Sunny is that all the characters are self-centered most of the time, but they do have times where they care about one another. How I Met Your Mother has 9 seasons, The Big Bang Theory has 12, and Always Sunny just ended its 16th season, and it got renewed for seasons 17 and 18. Since many actors and writers are on strike, I don't know when they are gonna start filming season 17. Each of the seasons has less than 20 episodes, unlike most sitcoms. Season 3 is the longest, having 15 episodes. Seasons 15 and 16 only had 8 episodes each, and I believe they are gonna keep it that way. When it comes to the characters, obviously, I see Grumpy and Doc as Mac and Dennis. Even though Mac and Dennis pretended to be a couple at least twice during the show, they haven't become an actual couple yet. Mac is in love with Dennis, and while I just know that Dennis obviously feels the same way, I also know that he won't admit it just yet. Maybe Grumpy can be Mac, and Doc can be Dennis. Bashful can be Charlie because why not? Queen Delightful can be Dee, but it would also mean that she and Doc would be siblings and that she would get made fun of a lot. Maybe Uncle Humidor could be Frank, who Danny DeVito plays in the show. Uncle Humidor is, obviously, Queen Delightful's uncle, but I'll make it where he will be her father.

So my friends and I saw the Mario movie and I have a lot of mixed feelings on it
On one hand the animation is really beautiful and I liked all the subtle references to the games while not being too heavy handed in a “look here’s that Mario thing because this is a Mario movie!” way. It was enjoyable enough that I’d watch a sequel.
On the other hand the voice acting was hard to ignore and the entire movie was just the plot of the 93 movie with more true-to-game details and worldbuilding and since I watched that movie a lot as a kid I felt like I was watching a reboot instead of a new movie. Which I admit is probably what the case was since the original did so poorly and Miyamoto wanted to do his franchise justice. Or it could just be a fault of my own.
Things I liked:
The animation was very nice. Fluid and dynamic.
The plot was easy for me to keep track of while ignoring Chris Pratt’s acting
The cameo from Charles Martinet (I’ll get back to that in a second)
Mario and Luigi are the most adorable brothers
The subtle but noticeable references to all the games (King Boo was my favorite even if he was there for a second)
Giving Donkey Kong a voice was a weird choice. Idk if he had a voice before because I haven’t played any games with him besides Mario Party and Kart, but Seth Rogen was a surprisingly good choice
Kamek was a really fun character and Kevin Michael Richardson did an amazing job
I thought Toad was gonna be one of those “loud = funny” characters but he was also one of the saving graces of this movie
Things I didn’t like:
Luigi didn’t get enough screen time for it to be called a Mario Brothers movie. I’d have just called it Super Mario. (I’ll get back to this too)
The Charles Martinet cameo felt like a big middle finger to him. Like everyone is telling you to put him in the movie and you give him a five second cameo talking about how good the accents are, a thing that everyone was complaining about the lack of?
On that note the comment about the cameo was in reference to fake accents they did for a commercial to which Mario asks if the accents were too much. I could go on an entire rant about that scene alone but alas I move on
Personally I’m not a fan of characters in movies getting sucked into the world they’re from in the other media they originated from as a trope. Like why do I have to pretend Mario is from New York when it’s already established he’s a goofy little plumber in the mushroom kingdom?
I feel like they changed Peach’s personality from cutesy little princess who likes tea parties and baking but also fighting to princess who likes fighting but also wears dresses. It’s a weird way to explain it but I didn’t want to see Peach threaten bowser with a halberd. I wanted to see her beat him up with an umbrella
The acting. Chris and Anya put in no effort and it made me bored with any scene they were in. Which isn’t good let alone if you’re in the majority of the scenes
My friends spent an hour after the movie talking about if DK was smashable. This is ultimately distressing because he beat our asses at Mario Party and we vowed to hate him and his horrible screeching
God the slow-mo “mama Mia” bits alone make me eager to see CinemaSins tear this movie apart
Things I’d keep the same:
A lot of the interactions between the characters were really nice
DK and Mario’s rivalry was stupid and petty and I wanted more of it
I feel like if they tweaked it just a bit the whole isekai plot could have been done right
The supporting cast was phenomenal I’d keep them all
Things I’d change:
I’d give Luigi a plot of his own. His subplot of “not needing Mario to protect him” was anticlimactic and I would have written him trying to escape Bowser’s castle or unionizing the Koopas.
That being said I’d also give him more screen time
I’d do a recasting for Mario Luigi and Peach. If the studio is committed to not having Charles reprise his role then I would have Danny Devito as Mario and have John Leguizamo return as Luigi. Elie Monty as Peach
I’d give Bowser more interaction with Luigi, as he kidnapped him to lure his brother in and kill him. So he’d want to keep an eye on him
Maybe pseudo redeem bowser by having Luigi give him dating advice on how to get peach to marry him while kamek is trying to keep him on track with the original plan
I’d honestly get rid of the will they won’t they with Mario and peach and speedrun it to them being overly affectionate friends that may or may not be together
I’d have preferred it if Mario and Luigi were still from the mushroom kingdom, but they’re magical plumbers who work on magical teleportation pipes throughout the kingdom (a la centaurworld)
All in all, I rate the movie a 6/10.
It was enjoyable but there was a lot of room for improvement

While not based on an actual video game, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is an amazing video game movie.
Tumblr media
It manages to stand outside of the typical action movie, and has serval hilarious video game references that really make it stand out as a film. I original started watching it because it was recommended through my young sheldon/why women kill/grey’s anatomy YouTube shorts, and I was drawn in by Jack Black (I can’t help it I love Jack Black he is like a better Danny DeVito).
Now, I know I have been critical of Rock movies, I believe a lot of his movies have bad plots, weird morals, lack any quality themes, and place ass-kicking over plot. I also know, I love those movies. Action movies are cool as fuck and it’s fun to watch over choreographed fight sequences that make me believe anyone can do a cartwheel-kick-split-spin-punch. Jumanji is a great blend of the typical action movie with puzzles, and that problem solving/ violence is what makes me love video games too.
Tumblr media
Yes, some of the puzzles are kind of silly, but while I was watching the movie I totally envisioned trying to play it as a video game. Especially during the scene where (spoilers) The Rock had to find a different way to reach the Jaguar so he had to take the path through the trees. Yes, at the end it became more action movie, but the awesome cutscenes, the annoying npcs, a cool villain that so many people would 100% cosplay, boss drum music, it’s all there. I really appreciated the bits that felt like I was in a video game like thinking you completed a level only to have to do one last thing, calculating if you have enough lives left, the thought put into the number of lives and the system. It really felt like there were actual stakes in the movie, like what if they just killed off Nick Jonas and didn’t bring him home? It felt like there was a good amount of though actually put into the writing and directing, I just really appreciated the vibes.
Tumblr media
I know there’s most likely not a huge fan base for these movies, but I do feel like certain people who are turning video games into movies *cough cough* Nintendo *cough* that should really watch and take some notes on how this movie handles the video game feel.

What I read in 2023
That post about my fave 2023 movies and TV shows made me want to do a similar post about the books (and stories etc.) I've read in 2023!
I'm not usually too keen on sharing my reads because it takes me ages to finish books, which usually results in a very low amount of pages read each year... at least compared to the amount I often see others share on Social Media. But tbh, any amount is better than reading not reading at all :)
That's also why I often tend to gravitate towards novellas, short stories and anthologies.
So yup, here are all the novels, stories and non-fiction works I read in 2023.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then I woke up by Malcolm Devlin: My girlfriend gifted me this one and I read it within a single day (which is quite rare for me) while we were on a train ride to Berlin. It's the best book I've been gifted in a while: perfect length, perfect style, intriguing subject matter, deep characters. Devlin uses tropes from Zombie shows and other post-apocalyptic media to address the much larger topic of radicalization in the 21st century and I love with how much humanity + understanding he went about this.
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett: This one's been going on for a while, fellas. Literally started reading it during my trip to the States in summer 2019 but due to already having seen the show, I never really felt like finishing the novel in one go. But I think that also reveals a lot about how entertaining I found the novel. It was good and I def get the hype surrounding it but the style wasn't as much to my liking as I hoped it would be.
Damals war es Friedrich by Hans Peter Richter: I read this one for work. The other German teachers at the school I worked at in 2022/23 all chose to read this one with their students so I went along with it. It's about two young boys who grow up as neighbors in Germany before and during WWII. I totally see why this one is such a popular choice in schools over here, it taught some v important lessons to my students regarding the spread of fascism and antisemitism. What I liked most about it is how the novel aimed to teach its readers about Jewish culture, traditions and successes, which I haven't seen much in other "WWII media" that is frequently dealt with in Austrian schools.
Matilda by Roald Dahl: Def my most fun read of 2023! I wanted to read another book with those same students at the end of the year (after their final exam). Out of all the books in the school's library, I went with this one because I was familiar with both movie adaptations and thought that it would allow for some really fun lesson ideas. We made bingo sheets with our predictions of the story, split up the roles whenever we read chapters in class, did grammar + spelling tasks with snippets from the book, wrote a diary entry from Mathilda's POV, and wrote an email from Miss Honey's POV. After finishing the book, we watched the older movie adaptation with Danny Devito in it. It was so much fun :')
All Tomorrows - A Billion Year Chronicle of the Myriad Species and Mixed Fortunes of Man by C. M. Kosemen: This book deals with sci-fi, body horror AND is written like a historical account - love me some epistolary, always. In short, it checks off all of my favourite boxes. It tells the story of a future in which humans start colonizing space and are punished for their hubris through various procedures of genetic engineering that are enforced on them. Multiple species that once used to be human and their habitats are documented and accompanied by fascinatingly horrifying illustrations. The free PDF can be found here and there is also an abridged retelling of the book on YouTube featuring snippets of the novel and its illustrations. I've consumed and can recommend both. This work made me discover and love the biopunk genre. If anybody has recommendations that fall under similar categories, please let me know.
four essays from It Came from the Closet: "Twenty-five contemporary queer and trans writers reflect on the horror films that shaped them and shook them." So far, I've gotten around to reading "Both Ways [Jennifer's Body]" by Carmen Maria Machado, "My Hand on the Glass [Hereditary]" by Bruce Owens Grimm, "The Wolf Man's Daughter [The Wolf Man]" by Tosha R. Taylor, and "Black Body Snatchers [Get Out]" by Samuel Autman. Out of those four, "My Hand on the Glass" and "Black Body Snatchers" stuck with me the most.
My goal for 2024 is to finish the books I've already started and to read more works by female writers.
Because my reading habits are a mess, there are several books that I've started reading a while ago and have yet to finish. These include:
Nightbitch by Rachel Yoder (abt 1/5th done)
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller (almost finished w that one)
Fullmetal Alchemist by Hiromu Arakawa (my friends gifted me the first volume of the manga for Christmas bc the FMAB anime is one of my fave pieces of media)

i'm gonna daydream bear with me if I were running tumblr I would
Get rid of live, sponsored, and 'for you' tabs/posts
Put the chronological timeline back
Revert the text post tool to back when it was good
Revert the dash/thread format to back when it was good
Bring back the ability to edit previous replies as a treat. not just for rp, but for the danny devito/vampire level of chaos.
Replace the store and run crowdfunding campaigns as site-wide events with fun prizes and community voted merch.
You know what yeah you can even submit merch designs and we'll pay you for licensing if you win and you get to keep the copyright to your work, which I think would be very cool and encouraging for aspiring artists and designers.
Host site-wide contests with cash or physical prizes for fun and community engagement. Sometimes community voted, sometimes guest judged by volunteer professionals to help get eyes on your work.
Sell advertising to majority independent artists and companies
Run non-invasive banner ads on the side
Let users opt-in to hosting banner ads on their blogs for a portion of the click revenue
Bring smut back for users who opt-in to be verified and over 18
Tighten the hate speech policy
Give staff a raise and some more help running this place
See what we can do about shuttering bots bc I know that's a genuinely difficult issue to solve
Make the dm system less...like that.
Bring back xkit's outbox and make it a default feature
Make the tags work again probably
Probably sweep the blogs that haven't been logged into in a certain number of years again, for storage relief.
Delete blogs that have zero posts after 30 days (RBs ok)
Delete blogs that have < 10 posts after 90 days (RBs ok)
Re-prioritize the idea of collaborative blogging
Figure out how to encrypt photo uploads so they can't be scraped for ML systems. maybe an opt-in thing? maybe for writing also?
Have users disclose if their upload is aigen and remove posts (and users) that upload without disclosure
Detect for automation...ssssomehow.
Hire people who know how to do that last thing
Let people design their blogs without a permission slip
put the followed tags thing back on the side where you can see them i have adhd man i'm not clicking a subtle little tab to see tags i forgot i followed anyway. that's me that's my preferences.
EDIT bc Ree has good ideas
Get rid of the physical merch* store
Crabs can stay
verified stickers can stay
maybe add more silly badges and stickers to buy

A Review of “Haunted Mansion (2023)”
Tumblr media
Haunted Mansion is Disney's second attempt at making a movie based on the titled ride. The 2003 version starring Eddie Murphy was critically not well received and flopped at the box office. However, it has a cult following nowadays and honestly, it's a decently fun movie. Does this second attempt deliver more or is it just another failed attempt at turning another ride into the next Pirates of the Caribbean?
Tumblr media
One of the biggest things you will get out of this film is how amazing Lakeith Stanfield is as the main lead. He delivers a standout performance with some genuinely strong emotional performance from him. This is thanks to how his character is written. It is surprising to see Disney have an adult character dealing with loss and still grieving from it. He is also an introverted character with anxiety issues which is not something you see a lot from main characters in big IPs. His character is the heart and most engaging element. His character development is a wonderful thing to watch. The exploration of grief is well-done and it's a meaningful theme to explore in a family film.
Tumblr media
The cast also all have decent chemistry. Owen Wilson just steals a lot of the scene with his charisma. Danny Devito is a bundle of joy as usual. Tiffany Haddish is good during the more serious and emotional stuff but her comedy is a mixed bag. Rosario Dawson is mostly serious but it works fine. It is at its most enjoyable when the cast is bouncing off each other. Jamie Lee Curtis has a minor role as Madame Leota but she does great with her small screen time. The first act started strong with some decent horror and tension. Some of the scares are pretty surprising for a movie that is also aimed at kids. There are also some great visual sequences. For example, the door opening to a sea or the hallways becoming longer or the pictures starting to move behind the character's back.
Tumblr media
Unfortunately, it becomes pretty bland after the initial strong start. The second and third act start ditching any of the horror energy and becomes an adventure movie. It becomes reliant on jump scares but none of them are really that effective. The plot is also very standard and forgettable. There isn't any interesting character development for other characters nor is there any great twist or revelations in the plot. It doesn't help that this movie tries to be a PG13 horror but also a comedy and is not good at either. There are so many silly jokes and dialogue that just don't land. It didn't even give me a chuckle.
Tumblr media
The movie is 2 hours and that is too long. There are many moments where the pacing is just slow or where scenes drag on longer than necessary or there is a pointless padding scene. 20 minutes could have been easily cut out of this film which would no doubt help the pacing. I'm also saddened by how reliant this movie is on CGI. A lot of the ghosts are CGI and the effects are CGI, all of which are very noticeable. It's a shame as most of these could have been done practically and look way better for it. It baffles me that the main antagonist is CGI. Could they not get Jared Leto in prosthetics or something? Also, there are so many noticeable product placements as well. There are so many dialogues where characters randomly mention products for no reason. For example, a character mentions getting a mansion from Zillow or getting stuff from Costco. The biggest offender was during a serious moment and the character mentions Baskin Robbins which took me out of the moment.
Tumblr media
Overall, Haunted Mansion 2023 is a decent second attempt. It's not amazing or that memorable and it's not better or worse than the 2003 version. It's an okay movie but I definitely expected better from a movie with Disney money. I do want to see what ride they adapt into a movie next, Expedition Everest perhaps?

HAUNTED MANSION REVIEW
Tumblr media
Disney clearly has their priorities mixed up regarding the release strategy for their film adaptation of "Haunted Mansion". Clearly, a movie that would fit more releasing in late September or October for the Halloween season, Disney has decided to get the theatrical distribution for "Haunted Mansion" out of the way in July to prioritize the Disney Plus streaming release later in the Fall. Watching a movie clearly intended for a Halloween release in July is rather confusing. That being said, that is on the idiotic executives to face the mediocre box office results than docking points off in this review.
Tumblr media
Imagine now it's Halloween time and "Haunted Mansion" is out to celebrate the spooky season! This second theatrical attempt adapting the haunting Disney World ride to the big screen stars LaKeith Stanfield as a grieving paranormal tour guide that gets a tip about a mother and son (Rosario Dawson and Chase Dillon) needing help investigating the supernatural beings roaming the halls of their new home. With the help of a priest (Owen Wilson), a college professor (Danny DeVito), and a psychic (Tiffany Haddish), they must all uncover the mystery of where these ghosts are coming from and stop from getting trapped in the mansion forever.
Tumblr media
The tone of "Haunted Mansion" makes for a very child-friendly horror movie. Being less scary and more spooky, there's some great imagery and creature designs throughout the film. Early on as the basic premise is being established, the reason these people become trapped and invested in uncovering the mansion's mystery is sadistically clever and allows for the spooks to go beyond the mansion itself. On paper, this adaptation of "Haunted Mansion" has enough spooky scenes and likable characters to be the adaptation fans are looking for.
Unfortunately, while the premise and ideas are there, the execution is rather standard and underdeveloped. With plenty of forced eye-rolling comedy routines and a lack of development between characters, there's too much unnecessary fluff between the genuinely fun moments of exploring the mansion. For every great moment of all the ghosts scattering and fleeing away from the intimidating Hatbox ghost, there's a lackluster comedy routine like being stuck in an unfunny tour of the Crump estate with two pointless cameo appearances.
Tumblr media
"Haunted Mansion" is a perfectly decent movie to watch that does deliver on a handful of spooky scenes, but otherwise feels like missed potential on what could have been much greater. The characters are likable enough, the tone adds to the (eventual) spooky season, and the creature mansion and character designs are amusing. While unlikely to become a Halloween classic, it's perfectly good enough to be worthy of a watch.
6.5/10
