Hi! Do you have any tips on choosing colors/coloring? Your art is always so wonderfully composed when it comes to palettes 🙌
Sorry this took a while to answer, I wanted to screenshot/make some examples! When choosing colours, I mostly just experiment with what feels right and what pairs with the mood, eg. red colours give off alot of energy, but blue colours are alot calmer, until I get something I like (it's never really planned).
As for the actual colouring, if you're drawing digitaly then the software you're using likely has options like this that can be found in your layers (usually found by clicking on a box with the word 'normal' on it),
Tumblr media
This is my favourite way to play with colour! I recommend using the clipping tool then adding colour on top of the layer you used to colour in your drawing, and then messing around with the settings above (and then maybe the opacity of it too). Here's a visual example,
Tumblr media
And here's some more (simplified),
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you're stuck on what setting to experiment with first, here's the basics I use,
multiply- good for shading, especially using dark purples and blues, and will almost always make your drawing darker then it was before
Overlay-Good for slightly tweaking the colours to whatever colour you lay on top of it
Colour dodge- good for lighting, makes whatever colour you choose look bright over the original colour and can give the drawing a glowing effect if you use airbrush to do it
Colour burn- can make something look very vibrant in colour
Lighten/screen- works good with pink and can make your drawing pastel/light colours
Exclusion- gives your drawing a very interesting look to it no matter what colour you use because it will swap the colours with whats opposite it on the colour wheel (e.g red will become blue)
Darken- changes the lighter colours of your drawing to the colour your using on the darken layer
If you already knew all this then whoops my bad, but I hope you still find the examples useful none the less!

is it just me or does Magneto remind me of Megatron?
I’ve never watched the X-men series but from all the posts I see here it does seem so ;-;
Help I was going to make a whole thing about that-
But YES-
They both have these old slightly suspicious relations with another guy who they call "old friend" who they're divorced with but never got married in the first place.
They both underwent the theme of the "Oppressed becoming the Oppressor" being that Magneto and Megatron both were part of groups that were discriminated against for the majority, and eventually became the leaders of a group which wishes to rule the world.
For both of them, there have been stories where each character has been redeemed in their own way. In X-Men '97 and the movies I've seen, Magneto joins the X-Men. In Earthspark and the IDW MTMTE comics, Megatron joins the Lost Light on a redemption of his own. Even more similar is that in X-Men '97 and MTMTE both characters are put on trial for their crimes and are only allowed to be free because they promise to better themselves and move on from their past crimes.
It's very interesting how both stories tell about two groups of people fighting with the same motivations but for a different future(at least in TF:IDW and some versions). And that the "Bad" group(Decepticons/Magneto) usually started with good intentions, but developed into something destructive.
If you like one or the other, I recommend reading/watching both!
X-Men is a great series and its so great to see a superhero group that's diverse and filled with relatable people(blue or not).

Would anyone on here be interested in my HTTYD the nine realms AU/rewrite where it doesn’t take place in the modern day anymore but instead the kids (plus maybe a few other- big maybe!) are just the next generation/children to the original dragon riders + plus some the RTTE tv show characters? Nothing too serious but something fun to talk and think about lol, just wanna see if anyone would be interested in that before I do anything with it just yet so yah

That feeling when you and your friend are the greatest bestest friends ever and are rarely apart, but then she he goes missing, and you lose the will to go outside, causing you to become a shell of your former self, and the only thing you tell your feelings to anymore is a non-sentient diary ⭐💡

Legibility (defined here as "how easy is it to put something on paper") is the bane of all human spaces. Every time you try to measure something and put it into a neat little box of your design, you're engaging in a long tradition of Western society - colonizing and conquering. You're setting up specific rules and punishing others to your benefit by enforcing them.
Spicy example: Disability. There is A Lot of discourse from people with disabilities, and it seems to boil down to "are you disabled enough?" Like...of course, words mean things and there should be a definition of "disabled", but how do you prove it? (Which - really? Do you, a random person, need to have proof of someone's disability? Do you need to know exactly how much it affects them?) You force them to make themselves legible - to write down exactly how, when, where, and why they're affected. Who does this benefit? You, or the person with a disability?
I'm sure you already have an example of legibility in mind.
Now, lemme clarify some stuff:
Legibility is just a tool. We wouldn't have society if we didn't have some way of defining things. The inherent issue is when you create more and more and more and more specific definitions/labels/identifiers and police others about them. Then it's useful only to people who want to protect the moral purity of a topic and force people to conform.
I think that with a lot of our stability removed (the loss of stable communities, stable work, stable housing...the list goes on), the desire to create nice, neat little maps of everything that exists is actually pretty normal. We can only tolerate so much uncertainty, and ambiguity is a very close cousin to uncertainty. The irony is of course that the best things in life aren't neat and tidy - can you perfectly describe your friends to me? Your favorite show? Your favorite memories? Oh, you can? Can you rate these things along 23 different axises from 1-10?

i do unironically think the best artists of our generation are posting to get 20 notes and 3 reblogs btw. that fanfic with like 45 kudos is some of the best stuff ever written. those OCs you carry around have some of the richest backstories and worldbuilding someone has ever seen. please do not think that reaching only a few people when you post means your art isn't worth celebrating.

“so long hair doesn’t necessarily determine masculinity”
*the crowd, more hesitant, still nodding*
