it’s been so long since he was turned that ghost’s forgotten the deep ache that comes with growing fangs and he almost worries when johnny goes to bite into the meal he’s brought him only to whimper and pull back; only the slightest pinpricks of a bite left in the man’s neck, barely enough to bring blood to the surface

it’s only when johnny whines and massages at his gums that ghost realises his oversight; crooning at his sweet mate in reassurance. he’s not upset that he couldn’t feed, at the unintentional rejection of his offering. he’ll make the pain stop

ghost pulls the man to his mouth and sinks in his fangs, sucking in a heavy mouthful and drops the now paralysed prey back to his feet; his throat steadily gushing with blood and spilling over his body

he cups johnny’s face, looking into his eyes, teary with pain and hunger, and purses his lips to carefully drip the blood into his mouth. the pain immediately vanishes from his eyes, replaced with pure bliss as he opens his mouth wide; curling his tongue to catch every drop. ghost presses his mouth to his in a hungry, blood-filled kiss; tongues twining together as they share the taste

johnny sucks the last of it from his lips and ghost guides him down to lap at the prey’s neck; licking up the blood he was too weak to draw himself. he’s ravenous with it, his whole face covered in red as he licks up the spill and suckles at ghost’s bite

ghost’s filled with an overwhelming pride at having provided for his mate in an even deeper way than just hunting for him. he spilled the blood johnny’s drinking; fed him in the most intimate way their kind knows and he’ll do it a hundred times over for his love

Sorry I'm the only responsible employee there but I was literally hyperventilating at the idea of letting my manager down bc I woke up and instantly started bawling about everything and could not face work. i like think of the other aspects of having powers/side effects like spidey (specifically a metabolism as fast as theirs) because it’s just so fun. you can go the spider-first route, where you consider what an irl spider does before you try to apply it to a human and work it into the metabolism, or you can go the power-first route, where you consider what such an enhanced metabolism implies about the rest of spidey’s body and then work it into a spider’s irl behaviors to try and tie that together. you can end up with “irl spiders can last for weeks without food so spidey will still experience all the side effects of not eating for a long time but delayed a week or two later than a normal human” or you can end up with “spidey needs to eat almost constantly but their diet is partially blended foods because the constant eating would make them sick, also irl spiders don’t eat food whole” stuff like that is my bread and butter.

sometimes i try to think of how the smaller stuff is changed too like how fast does spidey’s hair grow now? i know accelerated aging isn’t a power but if a height change is a side effect of the bite, then if one didn’t have their wisdom teeth growing in before the bite, does that mean the teeth will grow in quicker (more pain) and need to be removed way earlier than expected? what about fingernail growth? the heart’s obviously stronger, but does that mean it’s also got to have more of an electrical output, and would also need way more of an input from a defibrillator if it stops??? what if it stops while out as a civilian, and the paramedics don’t know if they should go higher and risk killing an (what they think is) average human???

There’s just so many ways to explore side effects, like maybe spidey needs to drink a lot of coffee to feel any side effect bc of a fast metabolism, but is that the only change, or is the side effect (once there’s enough caffeine) always going to be them being extremely disorientated and sometimes shooting webs in awkward/useless spots???? just so much to consider ^3^

OK, so. Finished my first run. Gotta admit I'm not 100% satisfied with some endings. BUT NO BIGGIE, THAT'S WHAT HEADCANONS ARE FOR, DON'T WORRY I GOT A PERMIT (i'm a Dungeon Master) SO LET'S GO, HC TIME D&D STYLE BC WE STILL GOT 8 LEVELS TO GO: (spoilers for BG3 and Descent Into Avernus going forward)

They'd all stay together and continue to go on adventures, the 8 of them, Tav, Lae'zel, Shadowheart, Gale, Astarion, Wyll, Karlach and Halsin. Found Families stay together. (I do enjoy the polyship aspect too, so just throwing it out there) There's an exchange you can have ingame with an NPC in the Guild and Tav will say the party's name is Wormskulls and I love it. I do also love Tadfools. Maybe they are Wormskulls to the general public and Tadfools to their close friends and allies lol. After the tadpoles are gone I think it would be very useful for them to commission earrings enchanted with Rary's Telepathic Bond. Less invasive than a mindflayer tadpole and just as useful. Also symbolic for Gale. I think the earring would have a pendant of a skull with a serpent coming out of its eye and being bitten by the teeth.

OK SO, my girl Karlach. I haven't romanced her yet, gonna do a run for that. But she's not dying on my watch. She's going back to Avernus, BUT YOU CAN BE SO SURE THAT THE MOMENT THE WHOLE PARTY IS READY WE'RE KICKING DOWN ZARIEL'S DOOR AND KICKING HER ASS. Or giving her her sword back and possibly turning her back into an Angel, something that whatever party of adventurers that managed to save BG and Elturel in Descent Into Avernus CLEARLY didn't do, it would probably not only nullify Mizora's contract with Wyll bc Zariel is now a completely different entity, if you decided to redo Wyll's contract with her, but also would give us a better chance of Zariel taking the infernal engine out of Karlach herself. Maybe turning Wyll into a Devotion Paladin? (more details about Zariel here) I'd ask Jaheira and Minsc to take care of Scratch and Albie (owlbear cub) because the Hells is no place for pets. Even very brave ones. Maybe Halsin's "ending" fits here, taking care of the pets and the kids while everyone goes to Avernus, they leave him with a Sending Stone. And when they are back he's there waiting for them. 🥺

If we saved Duke Ravengard and broke Wyll's contract. (or didn't but are hcing that we broke his contract by defeating/unmaking Zariel) what does that mean to Wyll? I think it be super cool to go more in depth about it. How does he reconsile with his father? Does he accept to be reinstated as heir and becomes the Duke right away or does he think it's best for his father to continue his role a bit longer? Does he even want to be Duke or does he think he can serve the people of the Sword Coast better as an adventurer? If he turns into a Duke, what sort of benefit does that give an adventuring party?

Finding something to make Astarion able to walk in the sun again I've seen people talk about the Ring of the Sun-Walker as if it's from the 5e books, it's not, it's homebrew. HOWEVER, any freaking DM with a heart would create something similar for their player to continue playing without being afraid of dying instantly bc of the sun. The Cloak of Dragomir is canon to the Baldur's Gate videogame universe, so it be a good tie in, but it would be a temporary solution at best since it penalizes the player quite harshly, Strength: -6, Dexterity: -4, Intelligence: -2, Wisdom: -2, Charisma: -4 and Vampire Regeneration divided by 3, to 1 HP per 3 rounds. That being said, I wouldn't make it TOO easy to obtain as there are other ways for Astarion to be safe, like the Darkness spell. It would be interesting to see him (and Tav) struggle a little bit more, really feel the sacrifice Astarion made by rejecting the Ascendance even after they find something to combat the Sunlight Hypersensitivity. Astarion's biological family would be something very interesting to explore in the future. They would be Elves themselves and are most likely still alive, we even have a surname thanks to people analyzing the shit out of that tombstone: Ancunín. As a DM I wouldn't wait for a player to decide to search for these people, I'd throw them at the players! Strolling through the Upper City in a quick shopping trip? You hear a loud gasp, things clattering and bumping into the ground, hurried desperate steps and then someone sobbing "Astarion?? Astarion is that you?!" What do you do?

Visiting Waterdeep and Morena Dekarios. This woman deserves to see her son again, and Gale deserves to finally go back home and see his mom without the burden of an ancient artifact lodged in his chest and a goddess wanting him to kill himself. Would he stay? I'm not sure, he went through an entire Hero's Journey and maybe now home, although pleasant, is not as comforting anymore. Waterdeep is the element of Gale of Waterdeep and he's not him anymore. I think this would be a great premise for a roleplay focused arc. Gale is invited to the Blackstaff Ball for the first time since Mystra shunned him, the Wormskulls are famous now, The New Heros of Baldur's Gate (Gala Episode anyone? All of them SLAYIN with their fits? Poor Halsin totally out of his element). He's once again welcomed into the society of the Lord Mage of Waterdeep and his peers seem to have all but forgotten he was ever a pariah. Is that what he wants? And Waterdeep has many opportunities for more adventure. A paranoid Beholder underground anyone?

Kill the Lich Queen (CLASSIC D&D). Vlaakith IS FINISHED. TIME TO SPELLJAM AND BE SPACE PIRATES YALL. Lae'zel deserves to see this through to the END.

Shadowheart goes through another journey to find out if she wants to truly embrace Selûne or maybe become another thing entirely. Selûne should reach out or Isobel and Dame Aylin would help her out. Or maybe Shadowheart is tired of being a Cleric and following a god. But change and inconsistency is something that is under Selûne's portfolio, she's often followed by those who are lost, so I think she'd find more than fitting for Shadowheart to be a cautious and weary follower of her.

Your Tav's personal stuff. The Dark Urge sounds amazing and I can't wait to do a run with them, but I think most of us got very attached to our Original Characters Do No Steal. So I'm excited to see what people come up with for their Tavs. Otessa, my Tav, doesn't know her dad was a pirate, he never told her, so I expect that his past will come bite him in the ass and she'll have to help him out of that pickle.

When the party has reached level 17, Gale has access to the Wish spell. And I really do think they'd use it to get rid of Astarion's undeath. As a DM I wouldn't let Gale simply get the spell outright, he'd have to research it. Not only that, I don't think Astarion would be totally free of undeath, some remnant of it would linger, he'd probably turn into an Elf that needs blood to survive and is forever locked out of the Call of Arvandor or something. But he'd be mortal and would be able to walk in the sun without that ring, cross bodies of water, wouldn't instadie from pointy wood objects in the chest etc. (i'm writing a little one-shot about this, should post it soon)

you’re actually his best friend, and you had the job of bringing him back home.

he is giggling at every thing you say + he’s petty, like, really petty.

“hop in, come on” you grunt, already tired of your best friend being all weird. michael sits down inside your car and fastens his security belt. then, after checking on him, you go the other way around and sit on the driver’s seat.

“mhhhhh” he murmurs, trying to catch your attention. “what’s the matter? does it hurt?” you ask before starting the car. “yeee~” he cries, leaning towards you “can i have a kiss to soothe the pain???”. you freeze and babble something like “on the lips?”. your friend nods and whines a long “pleaseeeee~”.

you’ve had a crush on kaiser for almost a year, but you never confessed directly to him, because he’s michael kaiser: focused on becoming the best version of himself and probably already surrounded by other people.

michael gets quickly impatient since you’re not doing anything “please y/n, i’m in pain and you’re the only person i allow to see me like this” and damn, your heart melts. “well, let’s do it”, you get as near as possible and kiss him on the lips. actually, you’ve never thought that this could have happened to you. “i love you” he coos, “stop it” you laugh back.

“you know you can’t?” at your response, he grunts “when will i play again?”. “usually, wisdom teeth surgeries need about two weeks of care before being fine” you answer and see loki turning gloomy. “don’t give me that look, you know it doesn’t depends on me” you shake your head, making him laugh “can you stay with me for these two weeks?”. “i can come here when I’ve nothing to do” you explain “i still have to go to college and study for my exams”.

“but i love you and spending time with you”. did you hear it correctly or is your mind playing games? “can… can you repeat the last sentence?” you ask, stuttering a bit “i love you and spending time with you?” he repeats, wondering why you asked him to do that. “oh… okay…” you turn away to hide your faint blush.

after he calmed down, you asked him if he really intended what he said before.

Those days u ran to not get killed by the Favonius knights, those milleths, the shogun's army and many many more acolytes that volunteered.. the days you were injured by swords, arrows, hurtful comments, the npcs hitting u with damn rocks... the only thing u luckily got yourself to be in your rightful throne is that u cut yourself Infront of them, gold and starry blood oozed out of your arm. then panic! Recalling those disgusting memories made you enraged. after all that, they confidently BEG for forgiveness.... the trauma u received... is unforgivable. you clenched your eyes shut, teeth clenched together, fist clenched tightly.. you felt sick just looking at these damn monsters that almost killed you, u felt utterly disgusted. Nahida was besides you, she looked at your shaken form and softly held your hand to calm you... you looked at her and smiled. but in the end you had someone here that actually believed you when u both first met. You sat up, anger visible to see from the window of your soul, you knew u weren't gonna forgive these dumb monsters. why should you? would you really forgive the ones that gave you blunt and unforgiving trauma? its like forgiving the one that killed you so easily so... agh! You walked down the stairs, towards the archons infront. you lifted their chin, looking dead on the eyes of this pathetic and naïve archon. "your grace... please we beg of your--" snap! you punched it. you punched this archon infront of u. "y-your grace!" you kept going. to the left to the right, you kept punching it. kept going until it was black and blue. something u cant even recognized anymore. you didn't care, you didn't care anymore, this isn't even half of the things they have done to you! None of the archons besides it even batted an eye, they still had their head bowed so lowly.. oh how they wished to be in their fellow archons place.. after it stopped moving u laughed, laughed filled with pain and unsatisfied hunger. it felt amazing, you felt amazing punching the fuck out of this bug. You sat up, smiling down at your creation. you wanted more. you wanted to show these damn monsters how you FELT in those damn days that felt like years. you were sure that this will make u the horrible one but u didnt care. giving the things that happened to u is the right thing isnt it? karma bounces back.

“We have a problem,” Jeff spoke right next to her and scared the living shit out of YN, who was in deep conversation with a small group of lovely fans, already impatiently waiting for her boyfriend to appear. With a hand pressed to her jeans-clad chest, the woman turned and stared up at the manager with wide eyes. “Dear avocado, Jeff!” He gently got a hold of her arm and urgently pulled her with him while she waved the group with boas around their necks, an apologetic smile on her face. “What’s wrong? Did someone die?” The manager huffed and only stopped when they had arrived in one of the underground hallways of MSG. “Nobody died, but the supporting act got last minute sick.”

YN’s lips parted at that; her mouth formed a soft O, and blinking, she tried to understand the situation. “Okay…? Do you have a backup?” He shook his head slowly, but the expression in his eyes didn’t sit right with her. “Unless someone agrees to jump in,” he now said, and the young woman felt her heartbeat quicken. Jeff didn’t need to explain this further to her, her mind already spiraling at the thought alone of making an appearance on the big stage. So, she started to shake her head—slow at first, but with growing desperation and urgency. “No, no, no.” She moved both hands up; her head continued to move from left to right, fast enough to give her whiplash. “I can’t do this, Jeff. You know I adore you, but… no.”

He followed the young singer as she took several steps back and threw her a pleading look. “Why not, YNN? You are great! You are a great singer! This could be a possibility.” It was almost comical that he didn’t see the controversy lying in it, the potential extent of hate she could get when doing what he asked of her. “That’s exactly the point, Jeff! Imagine what they would think when suddenly it’s me who stands on that stage! A stage prepared for my immensely famous boyfriend. Just… just give this a five-second thought, and you’ll see why I can’t do this. They will all think the same—that-that I’m using him as a launching pad for my own career before throwing him in the trash can like a half-eaten hotdog. But that’s not true!”

YN felt panic bubbling inside her at the prospect of losing Harry over the hate of this fandom which would ultimately attack not only her but him as well. And she couldn’t possibly allow that to happen.

Jeff gently grabbed her shoulders and moved her to look at him. “I know that that’s not true. The band knows. His family knows. You know. Harry knows. Everyone that matters know how much you love each other and that this is not a PR stunt or PR relationship. Who cares what the world thinks?” YN took a deep breath. “They will hate me. I could never use a social media account ever again, Jeff. And you know how much I love to interact with my fans. I… I can’t put that at risk.” His head shake let her breath slow down more and more. “Your fans will know the truth. They always do, somehow. The haters will lose interest soon enough, you know how they behave over time. And think of all those people out there. Many of them already like you because you make Harry so happy, everyone can see it. Remember how they cheered last night when he tried to find you in the crowd, and they helped him to see you between them. That’s all that matters to most of them—that he is happy.”

She took another deep breath and blinked up at him, unsure what to do. “But what if I fail up there?” Jeff grinned. “You’re a blast on a stage. It’s your second home, YN. Do you really think you could fail up there?” Her anxiety screamed Yes, but the realistic part of her brain only shrugged its shoulders because she had always lived for the stages of this world—even if it only was an aisle between bookshelves in the bookshop she worked ever since starting at and graduating from college.

So, all she did was nod once, and Jeff grinned even wider before ushering her to the technicians to provide her with an earpiece and a microphone.

“Uhm… Jeff?” Harry’s voice called through the underground hallway as soon as his eyes spotted his manager. The brunette raised a dark brow at the singer, and Harry held his phone up. “D’you know where YNN is? She doesn’t react to any of my texts, and I thought we would meet here before I went out,” he explained the situation to him—the my girlfriend is kinda missing in action situation.

But Jeff couldn’t really say anything because, at this moment, a voice, followed by booming applause and cheers, echoed through the long hallways. “Hey, everyone!” Harry looked confused as hell as he heard YN’s voice multiplied by a microphone and the sound system of Madison Square Garden. “What’s happening now?” He was followed by his manager and some bodyguards as he just made his way upwards to stand right next to the pit. His eyes almost pop out at the sight of his gorgeous woman standing on the stage, a huge smile on her face.

“I’m sorry to disappoint you because clearly, I’m not Blood Orange.” A laugh runs through the audience. “There was a last-minute sickness call, but we only wish them the best, don’t we? Let them hear it!” The people cheered loudly at that, and YN smiled even more widely. “I’m pretty sure they heard it till the other side of the river! And so, this only leaves the question of if y’all don’t mind if I play the supporting act for tonight, so we can greet Harry properly later on. Would that be alright with y’all?” She moved the mic to direct it to the people in front and around her. His fans cheered loudly, and a laugh escaped YN. “I didn’t quite get you!” Another move of the mic and the audience screamed their encouragement. “I suppose that’s a Yes! Thank you. Don’t worry if you only know a few or any songs at all. We still can have a great time together!” YN turned to the band, and at the nod of the drummer, she held her thumb up and grinned brightly.

Harry stood in constant awe on his spot, almost ignoring his fans, of whom some had spotted the singer, but he was too enthralled by his woman upstage, owning it like she was born for it. And in his opinion, she had been born to do exactly this.

As the first tunes of W.I.T.C.H. echoed through the hall, many of the audience cheered loudly, and even Harry whistled and cheered alongside them. “She ain't out to get you, but she's better on your side,” YN sang, and then, the people sang the refrain with her. “And she don't wanna be anybody else - She's a woman in total control of herself.—Oh my, you know this song?!—It's such a wonder to be under her spell - What a woman, in total control of herself.”

The singer continued to watch in wonder and almost didn’t realize that Jeff had patted his shoulder. “We need to get you ready,” his manager told him, and Harry reluctantly followed him, always throwing a look over his shoulder to see his girl glowing up there.

Also, i havent seen many (if any) co-ruling danny and dani!

I think itd be cool if like. Danny didnt want to risk becoming corrupt so he and dani share the responsibility. He doesnt really want to be "king" of the ghosts/percieved that way so he takes the ring (subtle, helpful when dealing with Unruly Visitors to the Human Realm) and dani takes the crown (with her whole traveling gig having to like. Travel the realms for diplomacy and such fits her i think!)

Admittedly. Most of my idea isnt rlly dp x dc so! Expansion.

Phantom works with the league/batman/whatever cool group you wanna put him with sometimes (not consistently. They might have some actual communication if they worked together consistently) and unbeknowst to him the league/whoever hears that the leadership of the zone had changed and decides to reach out and try to get like. Idk a treaty/confirming they arent pure evil/analyzing them somehow.

They are not expecting the ghost queen to be so small. Or feral. I bet shed ask for autographs just to see if what they do.

Dani traveling around realms for diplomatic reasons (also bc she wants to explore) is SUCH a good idea. Danny is slightly more of a ghost representative while Dani is more living folk just because of how well traveled and traversed she is.

I greatly think that Dani holds lots of Not A Deer qualities but acts still like an excited kid. Like she sets off every single fight or flight instinct in the League and yet she never actually DOES anything to illicit that response. She just a (somewhat) patient and understandable and extremely knowledgeable leader.

Dani wears long flowing robes that are very reminiscent to a bedsheet ghost but somehow it looks incredibly elegant and awe inspiring. (I also only imagine her in my head as like no higher than 4’5 so ye. She teeny)

You watched Oberyn in Ellaria's vanity mirror. He glanced all over his own face, frowning at some newer lines and graying scruff. You sighed softly in sympathy. You knew it bothered him. His age meant he wouldn't be around for his girls for as long as he wanted to, which if he had his way would be forever. It limited him and you could see the frustration some days behind his eyes.

Of course though, the Viper was still vain. He liked how he looked most of the time and the grey didn't go with his outfit. You got up as he was examining and grimacing at lines on his forehead.

Cuddling up to his side, you kissed his arm. He smiled at you and draped an arm over your back as you squeezed around him.

He made a small inquisitive sound and you reached up to take his face in your hands. You smiled, the look of questioning confusion on his lovely face making you brim with adoration. You pulled his head down to kiss beside his eyes and brush your thumbs gently over the crows feet there, pulling back to look in his eyes. "How handsome these are.." you cooed. He looked down, almost bashfully, and smiled. You kissed the lines next to his mouth and nose. "And these smile lines, what a beautiful thing to have."

The look on his face made you grin, so relaxed and enthralled by your presence.

He didn't say anything for once in a long while, driven to happy silence as you doted on him. 

You kissed his forehead, between his eyebrows. "And these...I think they show your wisdom."

He laughed and pulled you as close to him as you could get, turning so you faced each other fully.

 "They came from my wisdom, dove. Every year of my life now shows on my face."

You met his eyes, rubbing thumbs over his jaw. "And what an honor... to get old enough to have both the years and lines..." 

You scratched at his short facial hair. "Or the grey..not many people in their lives even see white hair, that is unless you're a Targaryen,"

He laughed and it made you grin, kissing him softly. "I'm glad you're here with me, Oberyn. I love you and you get more gorgeous every day, age and all."

He smiled at you and rested his forehead on yours, closing his eyes. You returned the gesture quietly.

“Never leave me..” he muttered, almost whispering. He sounded entirely genuine.

You answered him with a deep kiss, wrapping arms behind his neck and only broke the kiss when you were grinning and chuckling too hard for it to be anything but all teeth.

since we're talking bond tokens i wanted to share my ideas for the four's! i have a lot. i've thought about this deeply; the four getting their own bond tokens is such a cool concept to me but i'll forever be disappointed in how they executed it.

so, here's how i cope!

conor

conor's canon bond token: shepherd's staff that grants the user strengthened senses and some level of prescience.

my version: unknown person's shepherd's staff. conor recognizes it as euran wood, and it has marks that are likely from wolves' teeth. grants the user short prescience and increased wisdom. when wielding the staff, one can predict events a short period of time (few seconds) before they happen. conor may learn to see farther into the future (the next day or two at most), but only with a level of exposure that would drive any other user insane*. as for the increased wisdom: i kind of remodeled the persuasive quality of meilin's bond token and transferred it to conor. i scrapped the feral dog boy stuff.

why? i didn't feel like it was very in character for conor, or even briggan, to act like the wild howling beast he was. sure, he should be allowed to go a little apeshit sometimes, but the conor at the end of the dragon's eye just didn't feel like conor to me. plus, i wanted the bond tokens to be an accurate representation of the spirit animal. and that just... ain't briggan. or at least, it isn't my idea of him. in tales of the great beasts, he's this mystical, awe-inspiring being who is shrouded in mystery. a fearsome packleader who incites respect and devotion and walks in dreams. that's the type of atmosphere i hope to emulate from conor's bond token in path of the heroes. so like... toning the growling snapping wolf boy down a little. yknow?

* in my canon (aka path of the heroes canon), using or holding onto any bond token that isn't yours for too long will chip away at your sanity. solving the uncertainty of whatever the fuck happened to cordelia bc i don't remember if it was ever clarified. and even with your own, it's probably best to set it down sometimes, lest you become like a jealous dragon guarding its hoard. everything about the bond tokens is incredibly fragile and it's best not to push the limits. we'll see what effect this has on our heroes later on :)

abeke's canon bond token: bow that grants the user increased agility and perfect shooting accuracy.

my version: abeke's bow since immortal guardians. the very same bow that put an arrow through zerif's head and killed the wyrm for good*! grants the user perfect shooting accuracy and the ability to track any entity, regardless of distance. i changed the extreme jumping ability.

why? because like with the others, i wanted the bond tokens to do something that isn't already provided via the bond with the spirit animal. as uraza is growing and gaining power during this time**, abeke's enhanced abilities are increasing -- she'd be able to jump quite far anyway. not as drastically far as with the canon bond token, but still an impressive distance.

the new ability to pinpoint and track any entity (still deciding if it should be living beings and objects or just living beings) has a lot to do with the hunter symbolism present in the dragon's eye. abeke accepts that uraza is a hunter and a killer, and to some extent, this speaks for herself too. what better way to show that newfound understanding than with a bond token that reflects this?

i also imagine that abeke started to show more ruthless tendencies after killing zerif & the wyrm during the climax of the previous arc. she ends up killing wikam with no remorse, and wants to track down the escaped oathbound (brunhild and some others at the end of the dragon's eye) immediately so they don't get far. she's not gonna lose her character, she's just... harsher. more like uraza. she's embraced what zerif told her in the burning tide: that there's a killer underneath her wise and gentle demeanour.

(i fucking love that line. sad that no real commentary ever came from it. like i know all four of the protags kill people on the daily but they never seem to, i don't know, stop and realize that fact?)

anddd giving the bond token perfect shooting accuracy was already perfection. i actually forgot they made this happen in canon. i imagine abeke wouldn't need the extra help though -- she can put an arrow through a rabbit's eye in the dark, that's how good she is. she never misses. so if nothing else, that particular quality of her bond token acts as an echo of its owner.

* in my canon, zerif doesn't die by suicide. abeke shoots and kills him as the activated trap reverses his freaky wyrm transformation, leaving him vulnerable once more. with the wyrm still inside his body at the time, she gets them both in one fell swoop. she is henceforth sometimes called the wyrmslayer.

** in my canon, all of the resurrected great beasts are indeed in the process of regaining their old forms. the size, the powers, the speech, all of it. the four fallen creating bond tokens with their human partners caused a jump in this otherwise terribly slow process, the extent of which i haven't decided on yet. i have considered making them suddenly returning to their old forms as a result of creating the bond tokens. however. my premeditated plans for path of the heroes mean this probably cannot happen. they just have a little growth spurt.

meilin

meilin's canon bond token: hairpin that grants the user the power to heal wounds and the ability to calm and persuade others.

my version: yin and yang amulet attached to a silk thread, to be worn as a necklace but often just carried by meilin during conflict. gifted to her by her father on her 13th birthday, shortly before summoning jhi*. grants the user indestructibility, perfect balance and a calming, sound-blocking buffer. i pretty much changed this one entirely.

why? i wish that meilin's bond token was something we knew was significant to her. if the hairpin had been a recurring item that meilin held onto to comfort her and remind her of home, i would have thought it perfect. but no, it was conjured out of thin air.

we see something very similar to yin and yang in the second book, hunted. finn has a tattoo of the symbol and meilin expresses her knowledge of it, as it is a zhongese concept. it's about balance, to put it simply, and finding her balance with jhi is a big part of this book. they're so different, but they're melded together, as closely as yin and yang.

i think this symbol perfectly represents meilin and jhi (and echoes one of their bond token's new abilities, the perfect balance thing), so i changed the item from a hairpin to a yin and yang amulet. i'm 100% keeping the significance of it being from her father and a reminder of home, because those are two of the most important things in the world to meilin. i imagine she carried the amulet alongside her throughout all three arcs, never letting it part from her. as her bond with jhi deepened, she began to see it as a reminder of them, too. and this made it all the more meaningful when she chose this to be her bond token -- not her jian or her bang**, but this little pendant.

as for why i changed what it does. my instinct was that the healing ability was a tad overpowered. it's definitely cool, but if there were to be any further adventures with these kids it would fully take out the danger factor. any wound can be healed instantly. they would just walk into battle with no fear bc no matter how badly they get hurt, they've got the token. so it's okay. i mean it doesn't even leave scars. it effectively makes our heroes immortal. which would get boring rather quickly, i think.

now, my headcanon is that jhi as a great beast had this exact supreme healing power -- to the point of being able to bring back the dead -- and, like the other four fallen, her time is coming. so jhi (and by extension meilin) begins to work more wonders. my hesitation at giving meilin's bond token full unbridled healing power may be for null. but as it is, the four fallen are growing slowly. they won't regain their full strength for another 15 years or so. and by that time their human children aren't almost dying 24/7.

and that's another reason why i decided to let go of that specific power: through her bond with jhi, meilin already has pretty awesome healing capabilities. she can ease someone's fever or make a gash heal faster -- though when it comes to life-threatening conditions, she's currently at a loss. it's stronger in jhi -- so much so that the panda was able to stabilize xanthe until she could get further medical attention.

as for the persuasive soothing ability, i just felt that something like that would be better suited to conor or even abeke. plus, it didn't seem to work all that well. it convinced kana, but she was clearly about to cave already. it didn't work on song at all, although one could argue that she was insane and beyond any kind of help at that point. so that's that. i did, however, keep the calming effect it had -- just made it an inward thing that aids the user rather than an outward thing.

onto what it can do. the indestructability is something that made me think of both meilin and jhi. meilin's strength is more like fire, while jhi's is more like peaceful waters, but it's strength all the same. jhi is perseverant and everlasting, and i wanted some quality of meilin's token to echo that. so, while using it you're untouchable. i imagine a transparent but softly glowing sphere would envelope you, and anything that strikes it will rebound. a sound buffer surrounds you, effectively sheltering you from whatever you're seeking refuge from. it also allows you to feel utterly calm and still. it's kind of a callback to that one meditation tactic meilin used in hunted.

the perfect balance is self-explanatory. it's pretty cool -- like meilin could stand on one foot on the precipice of a cliff and never fall. you can imagine how much this improves her already impeccable fighting skills. just more yin and yang symbolism, and a nod to the fact that she finally found her balance with jhi.

meilin approaches song at the end*** with all of these things, offering her safety from the storm of her own making. it would have saved her life. at least it saved meilin's.

* in path of the heroes, the kids are all aged up a bit -- 13/14 at the start of the series instead of 11. (the rest of the younger cast is likewise aged up; for example shane is 15 in book 1 instead of 13.) the reason for this being: if one's nectar ceremony is supposed to be the event that ushers in a new maturity... why does it happen when y'all are 11???!? not even a teenager. that's a baby. y'all i don't know how comfortable i feel with writing about 11-year-olds killing people in wars. not that 13 is much better, but i feel that age suits the milestone. at that point, you've just entered teenhood -- a new stage. and i can condemn the greencloaks slightly less for sending them into battle. (very slightly less.)

-the protags' ages are more defined overall in my canon: conor, abeke and meilin start out 13. rollan is a year older at 14. the first arc takes approximately a year, making them 14 and 15 at the end of it. there is a one year timeskip between the evertree and immortal guardians, so they're 15 and 16 at the start of the second arc. second arc takes about six months -- abeke spends six more looking for uraza. they're 16 and 17 now. likewise, the third arc (oathbound stuff) takes a little less than six months, so they're still 16 and 17 by the time my fourth arc gets started (no timeskip this time).

** a jian is a straight sword used in china (aka the part of zhong that meilin hails from). a bang (or gun) is a long staff used in chinese (zhongese) martial arts. meilin wields both. her jian is actually the sword of tang, passed down from her ancestor yin (the character from tales of the great beasts).

*** unrelated but i like to think that this moment, with seaspray bearing down on her and the cliffs collapsing around them, was the one time meilin truly felt she was going to die. i can't wait to write this scene in my rewrite...

rollan

rollan's canon bond token: green cloak that grants the user the power of flight and sharpened eyesight.

my version: tarik's green cloak that passed to rollan in rise and fall. grants the user the power of flight, the speed of a falcon while in flight and influence over the wind. i didn't change much about this one.

why? IT'S PERFECT. tarik's cloak was a great choice. the ability to fly is awesome. rollan really lucked out here.

i got rid of the sharpened eyesight because again, i wanted it to be things that the creator couldn't already do with their spirit animal bond. rollan already has some pretty dope eyesight from essix, so i didn't feel the need to repeat that with their bond token.

i did add a few minor things. the user being able to gain a falcon's speed while flying is just for fun. influence over the wind is something i'm not sure about -- i'll have to think some more. it would likely be minor. we already have one member of the four who can influence the weather: abeke, as a rain dancer.

i think when in use, the cloak would lengthen and contort into two wing-like shapes, long and broad enough to realistically support the person's weight. so instead of the wearer looking like superman, they'd look like an angel.

anyways! i'm so rueful about this plot point in the canon series tbh, i mean how could you introduce something so cool and then end the whole series a few pages later??! we were ROBBED. but eventually i will continue their adventures with these revised bond tokens, because i'm dying to find out how their lives would change with them.

You mentioned wisdom tooth pain. Is it wisdom teeth starting to come up or post-op from getting them removed?

If it is post-op/ will require surgery, when told to only eat soft foods during recovery, avoid red jello. After I had mine removed, I made that mistake. When I rinsed the holes out (need to make sure nothing gets into where the teeth were bc infection risk) I nearly freaked out thinking it was blood and that I had popped a stitch. Completely forgot I had eaten red jello recently. (Stitches were unharmed)

If you do get your wisdom teeth removed, please learn from my mistakes. Save yourself the panic.

They're coming up. My bottom right one has already come up through the gum. That's the one that's hurting currently. I went to the dentist to have my teeth examined/x-rayed like, 2 years ago and my dentist said I was one of those special cases where they're in a good shape to come up the right way so I wouldn't need to have them removed unless I wanted to. But they said to come back if I experienced a lot of pain and discomfort. Now my wisdom teeth have been sore before for a day or two, then it would pass. It was tolorable.

It's now been a week since this current pain started, and it's increasing daily, and honestly, I've been feeling miserable. Now it could be that it's coming up how its supposed to and just hurts like a bitch, could be normal, but I'm still gonna make an appointment to have them looked at since its been awhile anyway.

hello everynyan, i've been spending the post wisdom teeth removal process (i'm doing fine, very minimal pain) doing a lot of art and i came to a realization abt the way i've done art for my life that i posted a bit abt on my ig but abridged to hell and back bc yk instagram. but yeah, i've always had a very messy art style. lots of paint splatters and running ink splots and collage. I never did anything clean or in one medium only. I had a very disordered and messy style which often fit the theme of the piece as a lot of my trauma was represented in my art. and now i'm doing like a pop color esque portrait of my dog and I think it's the cleanest piece I've done in a very long time for a personal piece. I had "clean" pieces i made for projects that had to be clean, but not many things i made for me. and, it's very interesting. bc like, i honestly think I used to have that messy art style because I was afraid. Like the style I had was also cool as hell and I really like it still. but another layer of it was I was too scared to commit to doing something realistic, clean, and defined and it looked bad. Bc if it's messy and bad, it's almost part of the style. but with clean, highly technical work, there is no room for error. If it's off then it really looks off and needs to be corrected. And I never liked that. i never had the patience. I wanted my art to be a cathartic, messy, one take release of feelings. I never wanted to have to actually focus on skill and that's not wrong. there is nothing wrong with that if that's what art is for you. but for me, i wanted a certain level of technique and skill that i never really had the guts to commit to. and I saw other try to do that while having less talent than me, and i never got it. my ex was like that. It's mean but i did always think my art was better than his while we were in hs. It kinda made me question why he tried so hard to be good at art when he art wasn't bad but was always missing something. It was missing some sort of spark, and I saw him trying to find it and was like, why? Which again, was mean. I was very wrong for that and was honestly just bitter bc i didn't have that sort of work ethic. (but like i was a traumatized 17 year old with little going for me. like it made sense. )This is bc i did always had a raw talent for art and i feel like a lot of ppl could see that that. He always came to me for color mixing and a bunch of things, like line or design. Like i knew that i could more effortlessly pull of certain things from young. I'm actually not sure how much was talent but rather i spent more time thinking abt art than my peers. But as I got older and ego became mixed in, art felt like something only I and a handful of other sad weird kids could have. It felt wrong to see people try and improve when it felt like their lives were normal. which was so wrong and short sighted of me, but i felt it. It came from a very hurt, insecure place and I am over that now. but it was true, that's how i felt. and it was wrong. And now that i can look back on my past self and her body of work, I think i can appreciate what she did and how far she came and now i can create art from an empowered place. now i can dare to do what i hesitated from due to fear of failure. to fear that all i had wasn't good enough. and its liberating bc now i can create to truly create and that's wonderful. I'm still not fully there yet. Like, there is a lot more I want to do and routines i need to create and mental blocks to overcome before i'm really back in my creative flow like i was when i had more time on my hands. but yea, it's nice, it feels really nice. Like looking back and seeing how far i've come. so yeah. just wanted to share. love you all and hope you all are in a good place in your creative journey's or are on the way there. peace .
