oh god this is hard okay okay uuhh the ones on my mind rn 1. tomarrymort / soulseeker (hp) - i find them so iconic, you know? their ideals, their parallels, their similarities, there seems to be new things to discover about them at every turn, just keep putting them in situations and watch them wreck havoc. the soulseeker fandom is filled with so much amazing amazing people so kind and creative, i feel like i have accidently stumbled upon the holy grail, the paradise that never ends <3 2. radiodust (hazbin hotel) - i ship them as literally the queer-coded villains that have nothing in common, yet they bond over being the meanest hottest couple in the hotel together and know the ideal make-up brands to go into territory battles in. theyre like two drama queens on different ends of the spectrums. i like them toxic, i like them dramatic af, i like them in pink and red hahaha XD 3. lawlight (death note) - tbh im fairly new into the ship, despite being a longterm death note fan :0 i was more into mellodramattic before lawlight era hit me recently lol. i love how people, pretty much, turn them into their personal anime yaoi dolls and force them to kiss lol.

My top 5 bird-themed movies because why not

Okay, you guys I'm very excited about Illumination's new movie "Migration for a ton of reasons, but the main reason is that I love ducks. I'm personally, as a Chicken Run fan, NOT excited about Chicken Run 2 because I feel like they're going the wrong direction with it. Getting a new director, firing most of the old voices actors, and then Netflix taking over the ownership? No thanks! I'll still give it a try though. Here are my top 5 favorite bird themed movies, and why

(Chicken Run, 2000) I love this movie mainly because of the message and the fact that it tackled some heavy subjects in a family friendly way. The humor is really well done, like most DreamWorks movies, and the voice acting is amazing! I don't recommend it for children as much, but I'd say the age rating to start watching, is maybe 10-12 or older? It's a bit dark but it's still a beautiful movie and there's a character that almost everyone can relate to!

(Storks, 2016) Okay, this one is more for children and family, but has a few subtle jokes that mostly adults will understand,. I personally think it still has an amazing message about the lives of people come before objects and also that family isn't always birth given, adopting kids they're still family. And of course, the characters are very fun and adorable. Compared to most teen-young adult girls in animated movies, I really love Tulip's design. They don't make her too "sexy" but still make her look cute, she dresses plain, and she's a total goofball. I personally love seeing more female characters like that.

(Rio, 2011) You guys know this one's a cult classic! My mom and I loved this one a lot and were sad when Disney shut down BlueSky Studios. The movie is still incredibly underrated, although it has a strong fanbase of 2000s-early2010's kids! The music in the movie is incredible, the visuals and scenery is gorgeous, and it actually makes you want to travel to Rio! I feel like they tried to show the culture in the best way they could, even though I'm not an expert, they did it in sort of a subtle way, but still enough that it makes you admire it!

(Duck Duck Goose, 2018) This is an adorable and underrated movie for the family, even though the villain may be a bit scary at times! I love how it focuses mostly on the animals, I love when movies focus mostly on the animals to the point that you forget the humans are there, but they still do show humans sometimes. The humans don't have like, speaking lines or anything. Also, the characters are adorable! Peng's character really reminds me of Rocky from Chicken Run, but a little more childish and care free. A better comparison to Peng would be Otis from Barnyard, at first he acts like he wants to party all the time, but then learns to become a man by the end of the movie. The ducklings, Chi and Chao, are so adorable! Chi's a very loving and helpful big sister, and she's voiced by Zendaya! Also, Stephen Fry voices one of the crane brothers (or maybe they're gay cranes? I have no idea...). The voice acting and characters are so amazing in this movie, and the scenery is also so gorgeous! The humor is also on point, and you'll love the little squirrel character! I also think this movie is good for maybe 6 and up, depending on how used to movies the kid is. My 6 year old self didn't have that kind of attention span yet but some kids are different. Anyway, I just consider it a good movie for the whole family!

(Ploey you Never Fly Alone, 2018) Okay, this one can be a bit sad but also has a pretty good story. I'm personally not too comfortable with kids having love interests in movies/shows, like kids that are younger than teenage. Because they're birds and have no confirmed age, you can feel however you want about the Ploey and Ploveria relationship. I'm only uncomfortable about it because they both sound young and it wasn't much time after Ploey hatched from an egg when they met, but again, they're birds. It's still a beautiful movie with fun characters and really talented voice acting! I put it at the bottom of the list because it's not one of my first choices, but I haven't seen it in a while. You may have different feelings about it. I think i recommend this movie more for 10 and up, it does have some emotional moments though. It's not really funny or anything either, so I don't recommend it for parties or family movie nights. If you love bird themed movies and have a friend who does, it's something nice that you can watch together when you're not busy.

Oh yes! Yes I do! I have a lot of recommendations, actually! I'll put it in keep reading because this post is gonna be loooooong.

Slice of life/Seinen manga:

Hirayasumi: story about a young ex-actor who inherited a little house from one of his only friends, an old lady he met by random.

Skip to Loafer: country bumpkin meets city guy, but this time it's a deep exploration about teenagehood, what it means to work towards your dream, and the complex social situations teenagers have to deal with besides just romance.

Shiori Experience: bumbling English teacher Shiori gets haunted by the ghost of Jimi Hendrix. Because of that, she needs to rise to stardom before she's fully 27 as that will be when she dies. (Fantastic art work, amazing paneling, highly recommend!)

Wonder Cat Kyuu-chan: cute, relaxing 4koma about a smart and competent little cat and his easygoing owner.

Embrace Your Size: autobiography about the artist growing up in a very fatphobic Japan. A short, sweet read. CW: eating disorders, fatshaming.

Yotsubato!: a true slice-of-life manga about a single father and his adopted daughter and their day-to-day escapades.

Sweetness and Lightning: another manga about a single father and his daughter, but this time centers around the dad learning how to cook for his kid now that his wife passed away.

Hakumei to Mikochi: story about a race of little people living in the woods among anthropomorphic animals. Amazing worldbuilding and attention to details.

Romance manga:

A Bouquet for an Ugly Girl: sweet but self-deprecating "ugly" girl meets sunshine puppy dog guy. A story less about changing ones' appearance and more about gaining self-confidence.

The Guy She Was Interested In Wasn't a Guy At All: cute story about a preppy girl having a meet cute and developing a crush on the nerdy girl in class, but she thought she was a cool emo guy at first.

Fantasy Bishoujo Juniku Ojisan to: genderbend isekai, but it's actually very gay and very good! Can't say much else, but the comedy is on point and the two leads are super closeted it's insane.

Majo-Senpai Nichijou: in a modern fantasy setting, a businessman falls in love with the witch in his department. A very sweet romance.

Ajin-chan wa Kataritai: another modern fantasy setting where a school teacher finds out that his school has several fantasy creatures as students. Has a really nice romantic build up (not with the students) and cool worldbuilding.

Beware of the Villainess!: actually a manhwa about a woman who got reincarnated into a villainess of some pretty sketchy romance novels. Sick of all the horrible male leads, she sets off on her own to make a life for herself.

Action/Adventure manga:

Kuutei Dragons: a massive, expansive world that has a culture in dragon hunting. Fantastic worldbuilding, creature art, and character writing.

Dungeon Meshi: an adventure party has to travel deeper into the dungeon to rescue the male lead's sister who was eaten by a dragon. Another manga with amazing worldbuilding and character/creature art.

Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi: normal guy gets isekai'd, but he's not a hero at all. He's just a dude whose skill is grocery shopping online and he gets roped into cooking for mythical creatures somehow.

Mairimashita! Iruma-kun: human boy gets adopted by devils and gets sent to devil school. Actually really sweet!

Natsume Yuujinchou: human boy who can see spirits receives a book of names from his late grandmother. Names have power, and those names belong to spirits who would do anything to get them back.

One Piece: top best selling manga of all time that's been going since 1997. It's still good, believe it or not.

Gintama: another old classic. One of the funniest gag manga I've ever read, though sometimes the jokes get too rambly but that depends on your taste. Aliens have invaded Edo Japan and almost all samurai have been wiped off the face of the Earth!

I have so many others I'd like to recommend, but for now I hope you'll find something good among all I've listed.

Personally I don’t really get people who say they acknowledge Sasuke and Naruto’s romantic bond but still ship Sasuke with a woman… Like, they saw that he was gay (he’s shown to not be attracted to women so he’s not bi) but kinda don’t care?

Actually I don’t really understand the whole shipping culture, or even mainstream fandom culture… I don’t know, I just don’t see the point in just making up content for pre-existing characters while completely destroying what made the characters unique in the first place by ignoring canon entirely (like crack-shipping). I get why people wouldn’t like everything about canon, it’s my case too, but if they don’t like anything about canon… Why are they here in the first place?

Well, I don't believe such ships have much to do with Canon either way. And I doubt all of them hate Canon per se, though some change 'Canon' to like Canon, which is funny. "This is my Canon." Yeah, not how it works, but ok- have your Canon your way ofc ┐(￣ヮ￣)┌

Side-note though, I don't think Sasuke even knows who Hinata is? 😆 It's as you say; crack-shipping. (I saw that giant/small-yaoi meme here on Tumblr again. No idea what it's called, and immediately thought; a yes, Sukuna and Levi. Kinda want to draw xD Makes no sense at all.) A lot of Headcanon is derived from personal... ideas/desires/inspiration or self-inserting reasons? (Isn't that exactly what 'x-reader' fics are?) Or even trend-posting. As much as characters are used to tell a story for the original author/creator (they're essentially tools), do fans use them to create new ideas. "Ah yes, we all know this character, let's create something around it simply because I want to." Which is completely fine, right? Look at rare pairs. And to be fair, a lot of content, fictional writing and art aren't even based on canon either. The closest thing through fan-work are Manga analyses or meta's, even panel redraws- stuff like that. People adapt 'canon' into fanwork through various degrees or sometimes ditch it altogether. Nsfw/spice is by default made up and entirely Headcanon :') (Though personality can be depicted in a way ig, through expression/behavior and whatnot.)

I totally get what you mean though, although I guess I'm caught up in fandom-culture now. Personally, I do like characters as 'canon' as possible, but it really depends. For some Animanga I don't really care. I think I ship pretty much all TR/BlueLock-characters for literally no reason, but I wouldn't claim it to be Canon in any way (˚☐˚! )/

However, I don't like it when Naruto and Sasuke's characters are butchered. Made-up context or not. The originals are so special to me and it's the reason why I'm a fan, though I don't mind too much in fics, depending on the story. I find it hard to feel the same when they've practically become someone's OC's with only the same name and design. I can't even read height/age-differences because I can't imagine it xD But anyway, this all includes "official" work made for financial/marketing reasons also- especially those damn novels. Those never have anything to do with canon, nor does it align with it. No matter how passionately people claim otherwise.

Depending on the situation may deal with it one of two ways. His kid broke it off? He's focused on them and helping them through the pain of having to call it quits. Their partner broke it off? Partners about to find out why they don't mess with the sixth Hokage's kid

he won't hurt them, he promises. They're just going to be a cautionary tale for future partners to look back on and learn from.

Seriously the ex finds at least five random human bones around their house as threats and is starting to really worry about their health. Where did the bones come from? Well, Shizune might get upset but Kakashi borrowed a few from the morgue for a day.

Honestly, he doesn't have to do a lot of work with the ex. Most people hear this idiot broke up with the SIXTH HOKAGE'S KID and tell stories that leave them wondering how much longer they have to live.

This leaves Kakashi a lot of time to focus on his kid and remind them that they deserve so much better.

Constantly reminding them how amazing they are and how someone out there is just waiting to meet them. Someone who's deserving of them.

Drags them to the nearest training field and sets up training dummies for them to attack all they want, for as long as they want, just to get rid of some of that anger.

I replayed and finished Pokémon Y in three days and here are some random thoughts | this is really long

Why doesn’t Blastoise have a secondary type? Venusaur and Charizard have secondary types, but he doesn’t. Blastoise could totally be a Water-Steel type

Similar note: Florges isn’t a Grass type… why? Florges is literally made of flowers, and she isn’t a Fairy-Grass type? Pure Fairy? Kinda lame.

Similar, Similar note: It would make so much sense for Goodra to be a Water-Dragon type. Goodra is associated with rain and swamps, so it makes sense that he would be a Water type. Sometimes I forget Goodra isn’t a Water type.

I have gone too long underestimating the beauty of items. I made an effort to collect as many as I could and ended up destroying my opponents. I gave Lucario either a Black Belt or Soft Sand depending on the battle, Charcoal or Odd Scent for my Delphox, and the Lucky Egg was my saint when one of my Pokémon was under-leveled.

The amount of things you can receive by just talking to random NPCs is amazing. I love walking into every house I see so I can talk to every person in the house, then I get a new item or move or something valuable to sell

Calem/Serena should’ve gotten a more fleshed-out story. It’s kind of implied throughout the game that they feel inadequate to you, the player, but I think it’d be pretty cool if it was developed more.

I also think Shauna had some potential. When she appears at the Team Flare Secret HQ, and she says that thing about how friends need to stick together, it made me think how it would be cool if Shauna had a little development where she’s actually quite dismissive of her friends, more focused on “perfect memories” than actually enjoying the moment.

Trevor and Tierno are completely useless. They offer absolutely nothing to the plot or the game, and I was honestly peeved that they were at the award ceremony at the end of the game. What did they do? They didn’t help storm the base, they didn’t unlock the door that had the legendary Pokémon, they had barely any part in the whole thing.

Sycamore is so gay for Lysander, I’m sorry. The way he talks about that man, even after he loudly says that the world is filled with scum, is the words of a man who is ignoring all the red flags.

Mega Evolution is so underused. The gym leaders after Korrina all should’ve had a Mega Pokémon, and the same goes for the Elite Four. It’s especially more frustrating because they (remaining gym leaders excluding Ramos) all have Pokémon that can already Mega Evolve!

Continuation of last point: give Ramos a fourth Pokémon that can Mega Evolve (they would have to create a new one, as the only Grass type Megas are Venusaur and Sceptile), evolve Clemont’s Magneton to a Magnezone, Valerie has a Mawile, Olympia has a Slowking, and Wulfric has an Abomasnow

For the Elite Four three of them already have Pokémon who can Mega Evolve, but I think it would be cool if they had Megas that don’t exist. I have some opinions:

Malva should have a Mega Chandelure OR Talonflame. Wikstrom already has a Scizor but a Mega Aegislash would be awesome. Drasna already has an Altaria but Mega Noivern would be just as cool. Finally, Siebold has a Gyarados, but since Lysander already had a Mega Gyarados, it would be better if one of his other Pokémon had a Mega; I would say Starmie, as to bring more attention and love to an easily forgotten Pokémon.

The gym leaders had some weak teams. I feel like Ramos, Clemont, Valerie, Olympia, and Wulfric should’ve had bigger teams.

Speaking of bigger teams, I think it took Calem/Serena way too long to expand their team. I feel like a rival should get one new Pokémon for every battle, or every other depending on how many times you fight them, until the final battle where they have a full team. Your rival fights you with three Pokémon a little longer than I find believable.

I really like the gym puzzles, I’ll be honest. Pokémon is obviously a children’s game so the puzzles aren’t going to be particularly hard for adults, but I just find them entertaining. I like how they incorporate the gym leader’s interests (Grant with rock climbing and Korrina with roller skating), or I just like the vibe.

Going off the previous point, I like how the gym leaders aren’t just gym leaders. This is done with other gens, and I love it, but I especially feel it in Kalos. They all have something to them: photography, rock climbing, roller skating, gardening, inventing, fashion, psychic… stuff, and even Wulfric, probably the least developed gym leader, is shown to have a special bond with the Pokémon in the Pokémon Village.

I wanted more interactions with Diantha. I’m using ORAS as an example: I really liked Steven in that game because I felt like he was a character to care about. He was more than “the Champion,” and I felt like he actually cared about Hoenn and made an effort to stop the evil teams. I wanted to feel connected to Diantha, wanted to see her make an effort to help. She’s the Champion, after all.

The starters should’ve had Mega Evolutions! I like having the Kanto starters, and I like their Megas, but how are you going to have the game that introduces Mega Evolution, puts such a big emphasis on it, not have starters with Mega Evolutions?

You would be rewarded with the Mega Stone for your starter after defeating Team Flare at the Power Plant; Sycamore expresses that he’s impressed with what you’ve done, that you’re exceeding his expectations, and that he feels you deserve a reward for your deeds.

Here’s one I really like

I love all the things to do in Lumiose City; there’s battle restaurants, there’s an art museum to learn a little lore, you can work at a hotel, and there’s so many different cafes to explore. Best part is that it all pays off: doing all this gets you style points, which lets you into the Lumiose Boutique and unlocks new hairstyles

I do find it funny that there’s a restaurant that will kick you out for not being famous enough, even when you’ve become the Champion.

AZ and his backstory is so interesting. I love the story he told about how he built the Ultimate Weapon, how the Pokémon he loved so much left him, and I am not ashamed to admit I still tear up when his Floette finally returns.

Lysander is weirdly unbothered by the player - a literal child - sweeping his organization. When you get the elevator key and go to see AZ in the cell, Lysander is so calm. “Oh, you got the key? Got the key that one of my strongest members had? Dope. This is AZ, btw.” SHOW SOME FRUSTRATION, DUDE

There really should be an option to remove the skates. I hate when I have to stop using the Slide Pad for the D-Pad to make sure I don’t accidentally run in front of a trainer I’m not prepared to fight.

It’s great that you aren’t forced to use too many HMs, just the ones you expect to need (surf, fly, waterfall). Not being forced to use Rock Smash, which is a disgustingly weak move, was such a relief, and even though there are a lot of chances to use Strength and Cut, it isn’t required.

There are so many things to discover by just exploring. You can find so many useful items or medicine in caves or on routes, and it’s always fun to go through pushing some boulders and cutting some trees to get that TM you’ve been searching all over for.

Being able to turn off Experience Share is a luxury I will never take for granted again. Being able to keep my team at the same level was super helpful and it got rid of the process of having to take Pokémon out of my team just so I can level up another Pokémon by a few levels.

The post-game needed to be way better. They should’ve done something with Zygard, or added a new legendary Pokémon. I just wish there was more to do after defeating Team Flare and the Champion.

The Battle Château is super dope but I wish I didn’t have to wait a full day to fight a new batch of trainers. I understand why they did it, but I just wish it was easier to grind using the Battle Château.

I’ve been complaining about how difficult Grant is but really I just wasn’t training properly. Once I started actually fighting trainers, wild Pokémon, and I did the trade of Luvdisc for Steelix, Grant was a walk in the park.

The games are surprisingly easy to finish in a short amount of time. I never realized when I was younger because I was a kid and didn’t understand how to properly play the game, but I literally finished everything in three days. Another reason why I want a better post-game.

There should be some type of Pokémon Contests in the game. They’re such a big thing in the anime, as well in previous games, so you would think they would have something similar to it. Even if it was just what they have in ORAS, I would be more satisfied.

What changes would you make to Gutsca to make the ship good romantically in your opinion?

honestly I'd probably always hate it no matter what. I can count the het ships I've enjoyed on one hand, and when they're opposite an amazing gay ship there's no chance. I don't pretend to be unbiased lol.

But yk, speaking more objectively, in terms of what I think makes a good romance... this actually depends on what exactly you mean lol. Like, a good romance as in genuinely romantic, or a good romance as in good writing in the context of a romantic relationship?

Because if it's the former then... there'd need to be more build up during the Golden Age first of all, like the anime tried to do. Man so much would have to change lol. Guts shouldn't need Judeau to shove him at Casca, they can still fuck in a moment of intense vulnerability but Guts probably shouldn't choke her during his flashback. Guts should start at least considering dropping his dream, rather than just inviting Casca along. He should not abandon her in a cave for two years to go seek revenge, so like, there’d need to be some external reason for Guts to leave her behind. Maybe if they’re together in Godo’s cave the brand powers are too strong and still attract ghosts, for instance. Guts can still be disappointed he can’t continue pursuing revenge when the cave collapses, but he should also be like, evidently tender and loving towards Casca, rather than treating her like an annoying obligation. No assault, obviously. Casca should not be scared of him. etc etc. Like, A LOT of the emotional content of the story would have to change, imo.

And I’m not saying romances can’t be dark or fucked up, but man, not in the ‘this woman is an annoying burden to me while I pine for my demonic bff, I sure hope when she becomes sane again everything will just work out and I’ll magically be content’ kinda way lol. Like if we’re not going for healthy romance but just intensity of feeling, maybe Guts can still assault her and terrify her but make it about his lust for her rather than Griffith. Maybe Guts can be desperate to restore her mind overtly because he is intensely in love with her, rather than because she’s the last feeble flame connecting him to his idyllic past. Maybe he can hate insane!Casca because he doesn’t consider her to be the Casca he loves but more a disturbing facimile. Yk, that kind of thing. It can be fucked up, but Guts’ feelings for her should be intense rather than like an afterthought lol.

If we’re talking good writing in the context of a romantic relationship, then honestly I don’t think much would have to change, except that it should eventually be textual that Guts was taking Casca to Elfhelm as a distraction from his complicated feelings and he should have to confront the fact that he viewed Casca as an idealized object who would fix him if her sanity came back rather than as a subjective person with her own needs.

Also Casca’s waterfall speech shouldn’t state that she was lying about caring about Griffith’s dream or her life as a mercenary because her only motivation was being in love with Griffith, and she shouldn’t have been uncomplicatedly eager to ditch the Hawks to run off with Guts at the drop of a hat. And she shouldn’t be feminized as she becomes a love interest to Guts. I don’t want to rewrite the whole story so I guess keep the post-Eclipse insanity despite it being awful writing.

And of course end it with them not getting together. Honestly I do think Guts and Casca’s relationship is mostly well-written in the story as long as it’s not meant to be seen as a good happily ever after for them. Whether by accident or design it works pretty well as a sad hook-up that had no real viable future to it even if the Eclipse hadn’t happened, and even as a relationship that specifically highlights a lot of Guts’ flaws post-Eclipse.

RakDiao

I'm putting RakDiao first in this post because it has received very little attention comparitively, so I want to encourage more people to watch it. It's more a traditional sitcom with a gay romance, but it's so funny and really adorable. It does have laugh track, which I personally found grating, but it's so worth withstanding that. The plot is enemies to lovers with flipping power dynamics depending on whether the characters are at home or work and you should go watch it now on the official youtube channel.

Cherry Magic

Oh my god, Cherry Magic is just so goddamn wholesome. You'd think that a story with mind-reading would have so much potential for horny cringe, but Kurosawa is the definition of purity even while jonesing after Adachi like it's no-one's business. Featuring writing sappy love poetry in his head while on a bus, there is not a BL sweeter than this one.

Word of Honor

Honestly, I don't know how people manage to categorise this as bromance. It's so very very gay, Wen Kexing and Zhou Zishu are basically married about a third of the way through. There's a cast of really great supporting characters, but I do think some of the political intrigue drags at times. It is also not the happiest of endings, even taking into account the mini-epilogue.

TharnType

I am quite happy to admit I like Mame shows, especially when they have chemistry as good as in TharnType. We can just ignore that Mew looks all of his 25-or-so years while playing a 19-year-old. I love this melodramatic mess and its production values are pretty damn high. A warning to anyone who hasn't heard of it that there's some trigger warnings regarding sexual assault both in the story itself and in backstory.

Tonhon Chonlatee

I'm... sorry? Tonhon Chonlatee is very funny. That's it. I love how insane it is - they had me with the Wuxia naughty dreams and lethal abstinence and I loved the rest of the wacky ride. Also featuring a very babby Neo as best-boy Na.

Not Me

I was told that Not Me was not very BL until it suddenly was 7 episodes in, but that is a lie and it is very BL the whole way through. There's some really interesting themes on show here, and some great performances that I really loved. I do think it was a bit soapbox in the way it presented the themes at times, but overall it was really enjoyable. Shout out to First and Gawin who really shone in their intensely emotional scenes.

KinnPorsche

Good lord the love and money behind this show. The production values are top notch and it is so obvious that the people involved really cared about what they were making. I found myself very much caught up in the Vegas and Pete storyline in the latter half, but can you blame me with how well they both performed? That being said, this show was solid through and through, with amazing creatives pulling it together from start to finish.

there was some really good stuff in volume 2 tho!! i loved the scene of max getting vecnad and el going into her mind and helping her. i also loved all the scenes between max and lucas (even though i’ll always be a lesbian max & elmax + henclair truther, i have to admit lumax are absolutely adorable<3). i loved pretty much everything in the hawkins story in volume 2 just like volume 1.

i think you should watch volume 2, but skip the cali gang scenes because they seriously did not lead to anything good and you will just be frustrated and sad. (you can also skip the russia scenes, but i guess that’s more a matter of preference. personally i hate j0pper & hopper & murray and i just want them out of the show.)

and yeah how they handled byler made me so disappointed. they really gaybaited us throughout the entire pride month only for it to end up being a gay boy unhappily in love with his straight best friend and his feelings used for nothing else than a plot device to further a straight ship.

byler not being canon and m*leven remaining a couple doesn’t even make any sense. mike’s character could have been an amazing way to show a beautiful story of a closeted gay boy dealing with internalized homophobia learning to accept himself and finding love in his childhood best friend, but instead they just made him be a jerk to will for absolutely no reason and reduced him to being nothing more than el’s boyfriend. el’s character this season was supposed to be about her discovering herself and her past and realizing that she is capable and powerful on her own and doesn’t depend on other people, but instead she couldn’t even fight vecna without hearing her boyfriend say he loves her 🙄. and will’s character… i’m too mad to even talk about it. they completely ruined mike’s, el’s, and will’s characters in one go.

the rules of the game are pretty simple:

you start with ten hearts. if you lose all your hearts, you're banned (until the next season, at least). you can gain hearts, though - any kill you get on a player takes one of their hearts, and gives it to you - so you can have well over ten, depending on how good you are. (one of the cc!s, clownpierce, at one point had like twenty-something during season 3)

there's not a MASSIVE overarching story, but there is enough lore and story to actually keep people that are into that interested; alliances made, betrayal cast, blah blah, you get the drill. certain thhings have actually been banned recently, like uhh. tridents got banned after season 2, because of things like a fight between clownpierce and another cc i forgot, in which the other cc just kept using a riptide trident to bounce back and forth between water spots and the fight went on for, uh, way too fuckin long because of it.

it's got four seasons so far!! certain ccs join later on. also theres a lot of gay people.

half of these people don't have playlists themselves, but fanbases have made them!! theyre just a little hard to track down. also @\renchant is working on uploading clownpierce's vods!!

there is also a fair amount of angst. the ending of season two made us cry like a bitch /hj.

mapicc!, also been here since the start. the best way i can explain this man is all the rage of a chihuahua in a human form. he is constantly starting fights and insulting people and making the most fucking unhinged statements you could ever imagine. i swear to god he has a death wish but its funny as fuck. Carmine (they/she, 17)

Personality wise, I could briefly describe her as a fiery ESTJ Aries with anger issues and anxiety. To go more in depth, they went through a lot of religious trauma (catholic) and had their sexuality and masculinity repressed. She's a genderqueer sapphic with a wonderful girlfriend. She's very protective of their friends and family and can be aggressive, but they're also very caring and affectionate to those they love. They're a pyromancer and the successor (similar to being a demigod) of fire, heat, and light, and can control those elements. Her personality and appearance are heavily based on fire: she's passionate and warm, she can be soft and beautiful or destructive and terrifying, depending on how she is feeling. They are a very terrifying person, but they can also be sweet and lovely and make you feel secure. She's very athletic and often uses axe throwing, fighting, running, and basic exercises to stay fit.

Appearance wise, she has wavy black hair, later turned red orange at the tips (because fire). They have dark eyes and sharp features. They're stereotypically attractive and quite masc. She's Chinese American with light skin, she usually isn't very expressive, and she's strong but a bit underweight. She's the first character for the story I wrote down and I love her.

Amber (he/him, 16)

Amber, despite having a completely queer friend group, is the gay friend. He's somehow noticeably the most queer in the group. He can rock any style, whether it's masc, neutral, or femme. He's Carmine's younger brother and has a sunshine boyfriend which I'll get to later. He's an ESFP Gemini and ✨gay✨. He's got ADHD and is working on his anorexia and PTSD (good for him) from the religious trauma he shares with Carmine. He was also oppressed in his feminity and sexuality most of his life, but he's working on it. He's a very energetic and cheery person, partly as a coping mechanism, partly due to ADHD, partly due to that just being his personality. He's the successor of fauna, giving him the ability to communicate with creatures, who all naturally like him, of all types and heal any injury or illness to an extent (though he can't bring people back from the dead.) He can be surprisingly calm when he wants to be, and when he is, he's the most relaxing person to be around. He's also amazing at origami, often coming up with his own patterns.

As for his appearance, he has messy black hair that was down to his ears at the start of the story and later grows to be down to his neck. He has tan skin with some scars from SH and some larger wounds from an infection that later heals into burn-like scars. He starts out wearing mostly dark colours and masc clothes but eventually starts wearing all types of clothes, including skirts, makeup, and jewelry. He has uniquely bright bronze eyes, just because I thought it would be cool. There's no other reason.

Sunny (he/they, 15)

Amber's boyfriend!!! Don't worry, his character is more than that. He's definitely neurospicy, I just don't know what kind yet. He's got a pretty sunshiny personality, but he's also ✨depressed✨. They're an ISFP Aquarius with some issues harnessing they emotions, going into fits of rage, depression, panic, and excitement, other than that just being tired, despite keeping up appearances as "the stable one." They're a panromantic asexual demiboy, the only successor with two living loving parents and a happy friend group outside of the successors, though he was in a bad relationship for a few months and ended up with relationship trauma from it. He loves all kinds of art, mainly sketching and painting, and has a pet tomato frog named Ketchup. He's the successor of air, sky, and weather, giving him the ability to levitate and control air to an extent, and his emotions influence the weather, and he can endure any kind of weather and temperature.

As for his appearance: they have slightly wavy shoulder length golden blonde hair and bright green eyes. He's Canadian-American with light skin and a shit ton of freckles. They're usually wearing jeans, t-shirts, zip up hoodies, and converse he's painted. He doesn't own any clothes that don't have paint stains somewhere on them. They usually are quite expressive, despite not actually feeling that much emotion.

Sage (she/her, 15)

Carmine's girlfriend and one of Sunny's best friends! She's the nice one but also extremely traumatized from her birth mother leaving her and her adoptive mother dying, but she can be very strong if she wants to be. She's supportive and easygoing, but if you piss her off you'd better fucking run because she will turn your internal organs into cacti. Speaking of! She's the successor of earth and flora and can manipulate it to her will. She's terrifyingly powerful, but usually very nervous to use it because if she loses control, she could kill someone. She's an INFJ Virgo with PTSD and anxiety, but she's still quite happy. She's always loved gardening and embroidery, later taking up crochet as well. She's a demisexual transfemme lesbian.

As for her appearance, she usually goes for a femme style, and she has fluffy dark brown hair. She's African-Indian-American with brown skin (not sure how to describe the shade, but it's kind of like tree bark? It's not very dark but it's also not light so like??? Idk it's brown. Like the shade it is in the picrew above but with way lower saturation) and dark brown eyes. She has rounder features and is more underweight, and her hands are always calloused and dirty from gardening and climbing trees. She often wears a headscarf in her hair to keep it out of her face and cottagecore clothes, including white converse she embroidered with flowers.

Azure (they/them, 14)

Oh boy I love Azure. They're actually the first character I came up with for the story and they have developed a LOT since they were made. They're autistic and non verbal but pretty expressive. They're the successor of ocean, water, and all aquatic life, though Amber has some influence over aquatic animals and Sage has some influence over aquatic plants. They're an ISTP Cancer and their POV is quite funny and lighthearted, and they spend a lot of time "spacing out," a.k.a. staring into space so it looks like they're spacing out when they're really not, they just don't want to be bothered. They're aromantic asexual non binary queerplatonic and it takes them forever to trust someone but when they do they get very clingy and attached. They love the beach and they love gifting people shells and rocks and coral to show affection and are generally very physically affectionate when they trust someone. They're energetic for about five minutes a day and rarely ever laugh, but they smile quite a bit. They're like a sibling to Amber and Carmine, although they're not biologically related to them, and they're good friends with Sage, who helped them learn to read.

They're Mediterranean-American with blonde hair, light tan skin, and many freckles (not as much as Sunny but still many.) Their ears stick out a bit and their eyes are ocean blue (because I'm so creative like that) and they wear mostly baggy clothes: cargo shorts, loose t-shirts, flowy skirts, oversized sweaters, stuff like that, and Vans that have been drawn on by Amber. They also almost always have rocks and shells in their pockets to give to people if they feel like it.

Periwinkle (she/her, 18)

Periwinkle I'm still kinda figuring out. When I wrote her down I was getting tired of writing. But I really like her character! She's interesting. She's quite monotone and unexpressive, but she's got a lot going on in her head. She has struggled with disordered eating, anxiety, and stress, but she doesn't feel the need to get a diagnosis or anything. She's the successor of the mind, the cosmos, and interdimensional travel, so she has the ability to influence people easily with her words. She's an INTJ Aquarius and her POV I'm still figuring out, but it's mostly chill. I struggle to write her because she's a lot smarter than I am, so it's hard for me to write her POV accurately. She's easily annoyed, but very supportive and sweet and often the one people go to when they're struggling. She's aromantic asexual and queerplatonic, and she did have a girlfriend at one point but she viewed her more as a queerplatonic partner while treating her like a romantic interest. She does a lot of stargazing and is an expert on astronomy and astrology. She's quite witchy in her behaviour, style, and beliefs, though she's also a realist and thinks about things logically. She's mostly just chill, even though she's surrounded by eccentric teenagers, and has the same kind of vibe of that the one queer teacher everyone likes, even though she's around the same age as all the others. She's best friends with Azure to the point they're basically one unit, and she helped teach them to read, write, and sign. She's also a big support to Carmine, Sunny, and Sage.

She's Libyan-American with dark skin, dark afro-textured hair and dark eyes. She wears baggy purple and black masc clothes, usually consisting of oversized jeans, a sleeveless shirt, a baggy jacket that falls off her shoulders, and combat boots. She wears some simple gold jewelry with moons and stars. She has medical supplies and survival gear in her jacket pockets and is knowledgeable in medicine and survival.

Hi heheh, you can call me Klaus, I’m a gay guy, my first language’s French, and this account will be about my history teacher, who I will be calling "D", just in case anyone I know bumps into this. - Story Time -

D has been my teacher for 2 years now, at first we developed a bond because we had a lot of things in common, he’s a huge nerd and me too heheh, and I’m a huge fan of history class so that helped too. So we started talking after class and during class and shading inside jokes and stuff. A day we went watching a theatre play with the class, it was about homosexuality and since there was a kind of improvisation thing at the end well I went to do it, and I accidentally made my coming out in front of my whole grade. I was stressed, it I felt myself dying, I was shaking and it was the first time I talked in front of this many people, so when I got out of there, and D told me he was proud of me, I just started crying. This day, I told him I saw him as a parental figure, because it’s not really going well at home, and that kinda baffled him. Next class I was stressed to see him because of what I said. It went well heheh. Then we spent more time together, after class or during remedial. Then another play happened, that was MY play (I’m also an acting student). I asked him if he could come to see it, he said he didn’t work that day and he lives kinda far away from the school so that would depends. Well shit he came to my play and I was so danm stressed and happy at the same time. A month later, I went to a concert, so I missed a class. I sent him a message at 3 in the morning to ask him what we did and what we were gonna do the next day, I also thanked him because he went to my play, and he responded that he thought it was pretty cool. I was so happy. Then we just spent time together after class again. Then came the end of the year. Awful. I bought him something, and giving it to him was the most stressful thing that ever happened to me. He remembered the fact that I saw him as a father figure and he gave me his email so I could talk to him during summer. Which I did, btw. Then came this year, I screamed when I saw that he was still my teacher this year. I was so fuckin danm happy. When I came to see him the first class I was anxious as HELL. It went well heheh. Then we spent a whole lunchtime together, it was awesome. He told me if we weren’t student/teacher I would probably be his friend, that made my heart melt. I learned a bunch of things about him too, that’s amazing. There was a show this Christmas, I went to see it a first time I had a ticket, then I saw him in the corridors and stayed with him for a while, he was going to the second representation of the show, so I asked him if I could follow him, he said yes. So D basically helped me sneak the xmass show in the vip section lmao. It was amazing. Then we still spent time together and stuff. There was a pedagogical day, so I spent it with him, it was fun. We also went to the fuckin museum together. Absolute best day of my entire fuckin life. It was amazing. And he gave me his Facebook that day, I was so proud. So yeah I keep spending time with him, and I keep sending him messages, and spending remedial with him, and of course being the best student of his danm class. Aint no way another mf will be better than me.

Sweet Little Love.

Pairing: Bodyguard!Bucky Barnes x F!Reader

Summary: The Y/L/Ns are a well-off family in New York, and are good friends with Sam Wilson. One day Y/N is threatened by a stalker and needs a bodyguard, so Sam suggests Bucky. Bucky doesn't want to do it; the last thing he wants is to deal with a spoiled, bratty rich girl for a whole month. The only thing is, Bucky has terribly misjudged her and now he can't help falling in love with her.

If there was one type of person Bucky liked, it was someone who was kind, polite, helpful and caring… and Bucky knew the person he was going to work for was going to be none of those things. "Sam, come on, man, I don't want to do this," Bucky groaned as he followed his best friend down the street. "I already promised, Bucky."

"Why did you?! I don't want to spend my whole day around spoiled little brats, they're the worst!" Bucky threw his hands up in surrender. "Okay, number one: You have to look after only one person and number two: Why don't you just meet her once? Then you can decide for yourself, how about that?"

Bucky had been hired by one of Sam's friends, Mr Y/L/N, as a bodyguard for his daughter. He didn't know the daughter at all; but the one thing he was sure about was that she was going to be a pain in the ass for him, like in every single movie about rich girls and bodyguards. Mouthy, petty, sassy, rude…

He was in no mood to deal with someone like that.

Ms Y/L/N, he assumed, had been sent some threats over a week ago by a stalker and so the poor father was worried sick as he frantically searched for bodyguards. Sam was also informed and before he knew it, James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes was hired. To be honest, the Y/L/Ns were paying a lot so… since he had given up Avenging, the income would be great.

Plus, she only needed protection for around a month or so. Speaking of the daughter, how old was she even going to be? Maybe a child below 10? A rebellious teenager? Who knows? "Alright, stop here. She's supposed to be here somewhere, let me call Y/L/N." Bucky huffed and looked around the crowded streets as Sam contacted the father.

That's when his eyes landed on a lady. She was beautiful; wearing what looked like a tennis skirt and a university hoodie, along with sneakers. Her hair was pulled into a braid and she had a bright smile on her face. Bucky blinked twice and watched. Her body or clothes didn't catch his attention, but her actions sure did.

She was chatting with another, older woman who had coffee spilled all over her white tee. The young lady was holding a baby in her arms, bouncing the sweet child as the older woman hurriedly tried to clean her clothes. Through his super-soldier hearing, he caught their conversation. "I'm so sorry to bother you like this," the woman sighed.

"It's okay, ma'am, you are not a bother. You were clearly in need of help and you know how New York is…" Both women giggled. The older woman soon left with her child but the young lady continued standing there, looking around, as if waiting for someone. Probably a boyfriend, Bucky thought.

"Why is he not picking up?!"

Bucky rolled his eyes at Sam before looking over at the pretty lady again, who had started bouncing back and forth on her heels, glancing everywhere. That's when a loud wail echoed above the already busy street. The lady's eyes snapped towards the voice before she took off running towards a little boy who had tripped over.

The little kid was blond and scrawny, reminding Bucky of a little Steve. He smiled fondly at the memory. "Are you hurt, bubba?" Y/N asked the kid adoringly as she helped him stand. The boy's lower lip wobbled as he tried to hold his tears in but was unsuccessful. "Aw, come here…" Bucky gulped when the lady got on her knees and hugged the child.

She's so kind.

The kid hugged back just as eagerly, sobbing into her shoulder. Soon, two adults approached her; a gay couple, the parents of the kid. They, too, watched with appreciation as the lady easily calmed the kid down with her soothing presence. An involuntary smile bloomed on Bucky's face; if he was in that kid's position, he'd have stopped crying too. The lady was wonderful.

"Thank you so much, honey," one of the men grinned when the lady stood up, dusting her knees and giving the kid a smile. "Oh, it's not a problem! You know what?" She dug around in her purse and pulled out a lollipop. "I always have some on me. I'm a big fan. You?" The boy giggled and eagerly accepted the candy.

"Steve, what do you say?"

Bucky almost laughed. The kid's name was also Steve? Amazing! "Thank you!" Steve exclaimed with a bright smile, making the lady laugh. "No problem! Have a good day!" She waved at the family of three before returning to her original place, standing outside a café. Bucky was enamored at this point.

"Any luck?" he drawled, glancing at Sam who shook his head. "That dick," he grumbled under his breath and Bucky grinned, getting back to watching the pretty lady but she was nowhere to be found. He looked around until he saw her crossing the road, an old man holding her arm with one hand as the other held his walking cane.

She was on his side of the street now, just a few feet away from him. "You are an angel, darling," the old man crooned as he patted her cheek, letting go of her arm once he was safely on the other side. An angel indeed, Bucky smiled to himself. "Oh, sir, I try…" she spoke bashfully, turning in his direction as the man left.

Bucky quickly averted his gaze, he didn't want to look like a creep. "Sam? Sam, is that you? Wilson!" Bucky froze at the lady's voice, her footsteps nearing the place where he and Sam were standing. Wait, is that...? Sam looked away from his phone, eyes lighting up as they landed on the lady. "Y/N? When did you arrive?" Bucky watched as they hugged.

"Been here for a long time, dad said you were going to introduce me to my bodyguard today. He's a good friend of yours, right?" Sam turned and motioned towards Bucky. He stepped forward. "Hi, I'm James Barnes," he introduced himself, holding his hand out. He couldn't believe he had called this angel a spoiled, rich brat.

I'm never gonna forgive myself.

"James, nice to meet you! I'm Y/N Y/L/N. Thanks for doing this, I'm probably going to be a burden—" He immediately shook his head. "Oh, no no no, don't say that! I can tell we're going to be good friends." He winked and she couldn't help but giggle. Bucky didn't even correct her on the name, something about the way she said it made a shiver run down his spine.

"Well, um, do we start now, or…?"

"Your choice," he interrupted, hands shoved in the pockets of his coat as he stared at her, heart swelling with affection. "I already feel safe," she half-joked, "Start now. I have a few places to go to…" He was ready to follow her to Hell and back. "Of course." Both of them turned to Sam, who had a knowing smirk on his face.

If it were anyone else Bucky would've given him his infamous glare but Y/N? He was hoping for a connection. "You two enjoy your date— I mean, day. Anyway, what's up with your dad, girl, he's not picking up my calls." Bucky rolled his eyes at the slip up. "He's not? Maybe he's in a meeting. If you want you can go visit."

"Gonna do just that, tell him that his precious little daughter is in safe hands." Y/N looked at Bucky with a huge smile. "No doubt about that! It's getting late, I'll see you later!" Y/N started walking away and Bucky immediately followed with a nod towards Sam. "Hey, um, I saw you, you know?" he blurted out.

"Saw me? Doing what?" Y/N blinked. "You helping the lady with the child, the kid who tripped over— Steve, his name was? And the old man you helped cross the street. I just wanna say that was amazing. You're a great person, Y/N, I'm honored to be your bodyguard." She gasped softly and looked away, chewing her bottom lip as she grinned, cheeks heating up.

"Oh, um, it's just— I like to help people. It's how my parents raised me. Yeah, we might be rich but I'm not spoiled. Lots of people think that when I tell them I'm Mr Y/L/N's daughter. It hurts sometimes, you know? People just assume anything about you without even knowing you. That's why I try to be good. I don't want to be a bad person," she rushed out, unconsciously voicing all her insecurities.

Bucky's heart sank in his chest as he let out a dry chuckle. "Ugh, just saying this is gonna make me throw up but I assumed that too. I thought I was gonna work with a spoiled, rich brat. I was horribly, horribly wrong, I hope you can forgive me, doll." She turned to him, but she wasn't mad in the slightest. She even started getting a tiny crush on him, I mean, hey, the man is eye-candy. "It's fine! I forgive you, you didn't know."

"No, it's not fine. I shouldn't have made assumptions, I feel like the biggest ass in the world," he scoffed, looking away from her. "James, please, it's okay. You know now, right? Don't feel bad! Why don't we stop for a coffee on the way?" How could he say no to that?

2 weeks passed. Y/N and Bucky became incredibly close friends; Bucky went as far as revealing the truth about himself, how he used to be an Avenger, how he lost his arm, everything. What he didn't expect was her to cry at his story. "You did not deserve to go through that, they did you so dirty…" she sniffled and he hugged her like his life depended on it. It kinda did.

God, if he didn't fall in love the first time they met, he was definitely in love now. "Doll, I'm here now, aren't I? All good— well, maybe not all good." And his face broke into the biggest grin ever when he heard a chuckle from her. "I'm glad you're here." Just those 4 words and Bucky vowed that he was never gonna let her go.

"I'm getting coffee, you wait here. Don't go anywhere else."

"Aye aye, Captain!" Y/N laughed and he smiled back as he entered the café. Y/N stood outside, typing away on her phone when someone suddenly grabbed her by the back of her neck, pulling her into the alley next to the café. She couldn't even scream, breathing was difficult with his hand around her neck.

"We finally meet, sweetheart." Oh, God, it was him. The stalker. Y/N whimpered, struggling to get out of his arms but he only tightened his hold on her. Bucky, Bucky please— Over time, Y/N had grown fond of Bucky. He still asked her to call him James, he said it felt good when she called him that. So she did.

He was so protective of her, almost like she was his girlfriend. He was also handsome; incredibly so, with his stormy blue eyes, his tall and broad figure and razor sharp jaw. His first priority was always her and it made her warm inside. She'd decided to ask him out at the end of the month, but it was looking a bit difficult now.

"Your bodyguard not with you today? What happened, lover's quarrel?" the man smirked tauntingly as Y/N's vision blurred due to lack of oxygen. She blinked back tears, crying again when he tightened his hold on her neck. "Scream all you want, sweetheart, no one's gonna hear it," he laughed.

"Try me."

The man's head whipped to the side only for Bucky's metal fist to connect with his jaw. He fell to the ground with a thud, unconscious at the first punch. Y/N slid down to her knees. Her hands went to her neck, coughing and dry heaving. "Doll? Doll, come here." Bucky felt immense guilt as he gathered her in his arms, carrying her bridal style towards his car.

He left her alone. That was the one thing he wasn't supposed to do. "James…" Y/N wheezed, curling closer to him when he tried to put her in the backseat. "Doll, you have to get in," he insisted but she shook her head. "Not without you. Please." Bucky sighed and got into the backseat, holding Y/N against his chest.

She was pretty shaken up. "I'm so sorry, Y/N." He felt himself tearing up. "No… not your fault… you… coffee… I wasn't… phone…" Bucky handed her a bottle of water when she wheezed again. "Drink up, baby," he whispered as he held the bottle to her lips because she refused to let go of his sweater. After drinking some water her throat felt better.

"Don't go, please, I need you," she sobbed as she completely curled against him, wetting his sweater as she cried in his arms. "You will always have me, doll. I'm not going anywhere. Not again," he assured her as he rubbed her back, wiping his own tears away. All of a sudden, she pulled away and pressed her lips to his. "I love you."

He pulled her in for another kiss, fireworks exploding in his head at the confession. Only two weeks had passed but they were both sure about their feelings. "I love you too, doll. You're mine now, only mine," he groaned against her lips. "Only yours," she agreed, burying her face back in his shoulder as he pulled her impossibly close.

"You're not getting out of my sight ever again."

And he kept his promise.

"And then I— where do you think you're going?" Sam blinked as Bucky abruptly stood up, eyes trained on his wife. She gave him a smile and walked out of the room, Bucky following her out like a puppy. "To the bathroom, Sam!" Y/N called out behind her and Sam turned to the parents, blinking in confusion as they roared with laughter.

"Why does she need him there?" Sam asked "Oh, haven't you heard? Bucky hasn't broken the promise he gave Y/N 6 years ago," Mrs Y/L/N explained vaguely. "What promise?" Mr Y/L/N laughed once more. "He told her she was never getting out of sight after the incident. And well…" Y/N and Bucky returned at the exact time as Sam made a face.

"Don't you get tired of him?" Sam groaned as Bucky sat down, pulling his wife on his lap. "Oh no no, it helps that she's as much in love with him as he is with her. They do not get tired of each other," Mrs Y/L/N shook her head with a fond smile. "It helps that he's handsome and aesthetically pleasing to look at," Y/N crooned, squishing her husband's cheeks as he laughed and swatted her hands away.

"Even in the bathroom?!"

"He stands outside as a guard," she shrugged. "Damn. Y'all are weird," Sam muttered, barely catching the book Bucky threw towards him. "Not weird. Just looking out for her, like I promised," he muttered, cheeks flushing. "You do know that the threat was 6 years ago, right? Six!" Sam threw his hands up.

"What if there's a new one?" Bucky countered exasperatedly. Sam only shook his head at the couple before a smile broke out on his face. "I've never seen a couple so in love. You two are cute," he commented as laughter filled the room. No more threats, no more danger.

Just a sweet little family and their sweet little love.

Interview with Fan Artist loycos!

So a few months ago, I was absent-mindedly scrolling on Tumblr (or was it Twitter?) when I came across something: an Adventure Time fan comic by an artist named loycos. As a person embedded in fan spaces, I find fanart like this all the time, but this time, there was something special about the art I was seeing. It was so... show-accurate!

I don’t mean that necessarily in regard to the art style (although it does feel right at home in the Land of Ooo, while still being its own thing with its own flourishes), but rather in relation to the characterization; the way loycos wrote the characters was spot on. She nailed PB and Marceline’s dynamic as former lovers who deep-down miss one another. She nailed Finn’s naive heroism and his one-sided crush on PB. She nailed Jake’s goofball energy. It was perfect.

In the past, I’ve only interviewed people affiliated with the show’s production, but I thought I’d mix things up a bit and reach out to some fan artists that I think are fantastic. As such, I’m delighted to share with you an interview I had with loycos, who answered my questions about her art, her history with Adventure Time, and where her work is headed!

What is your 'artistic origin' story?

[It’s] kind of a corny answer, but I've been drawing since I remember myself. My earliest drawing memories are drawing Clifford (the big red dog) fanart when I was around 5 y/o. I was always more of a "fangirl" artist, [and] I would draw characters from my favorite franchises to illustrate my headcanons and daydream scenarios I'd put them in. That hadn't changed one bit since. I had since gone on to study animation and illustration in official institutions which forced me to design characters and worlds of my own, but when I draw for myself it's always back to fanart (or studies). I don't have any OCs.

Are there particular artists or styles that you were inspired by and/or like to emulate or allude to?

I'd joke that my artstyle is just a mesh of all the franchises I've drawn fanart for over the years, but honestly, is it even a joke? I think you can easily recognize I had a Disney Phase like every other teenager (I didn't have an anime phase though! I know, I'm an anomaly) and [Steven Universe] definitely left it's fat mark on my style too. Out of [Steven Universe]'s storyboarding crew (which I followed very closely over the years) I especially love Raven Molisee and Jeff Liu for their wacky expressions and proportions, and of course Rebecca Sugar for their fluid and carefree lines. When it comes to art in general, I tend to prefer stylized, colorful and brushy styles over realistic or gothic ones, So people like Hue Teo and Patri Balanovsky pop to my mind (and my artstation feed, seriously look them up).

How do you approach your projects; what is your general art process?

It really depends on the type of project I'm doing, though, my [Adventure Time] comics were all pretty similar in their conception: I write down all of my ideas in my notes so I won't forget them. Then I either roughly sketch out the entire comic as fast as I can, or I write a script (if the concept is specifically very dialog heavy) and then sketch it roughly. Then I do the lineart and color, nothing too complicated. The one thing I think is worth noting in my long comic process is that I draw all of my panels on the same document- that way it's easier for me to make sure the characters stay on model and that my panel layout remains fresh. So basically, the way you read the comics on tumblr, as a long scroll, is the format I work on.

How did you come to find Adventure Time? What made you join the fandom?

Adventure Time is one of those shows you just know about, so I don't remember how I first found out about the show. However, I do remember when I started shipping Bubbline—after the episode “Broke His Crown” aired. I somehow ended up in their Tumblr tag and was blown away by the (by 2016's standards) blatant representation. Despite my obsession with them at the time, I never actually watched any episode that didn't feature the girls' relationship. I only started fully watching the show recently. But I did consume a lot of fan content, which I think helped me shape my own headcanons and such. After my initial interest in 2016 I put Bubbline back on the back burner and kept on my [Steven Universe] ramage, until last year's “Obsidian,” which brought me back fully on board the Bubbline decks around 2 weeks before it aired, so I was in maximum hype mode when I watched the special. It did not disappoint [and it] really reminded me of why I loved these characters and their relationship to begin with. I started drawing my own art for the ship shortly after, when I felt like the hype around the special died down and there wasn't much to keep me sustained anymore. I make what I want to see ;)

As for joining the fandom, I don't know if I can be considered a member, seeing how inactive I am most of the time and my very limited list of [Adventure Time] mutuals. I am extremely flattered that my stuff caught ATimers attention in a positive way.

You've done some amazing Bubblegum and Marceline stuff. What draws you to their dynamic?

I'm gay.

OK, seriously now. I have a soft spot for extremely feminine, dainty characters that are very reserved, so PB immediately marked herself as an obvious fav, and the road to shipping her with Marceline (who is such an obvious candidate and a multilayered, fascinating character herself) was a short one. I know calling PB dainty is far from a true statement, but that's what she appeared like on the surface and that's what caught my attention. Another thing is that I love relationships between immortal beings, I think it always adds another layer of complexity to any relationship, especially a romantic one. The whole "getting older without appearing like you've aged" and "watching everyone you love die around you while you stay the same" can surely make 2 beings bond, right? It always felt like PB and Marcy get each other in a way no one else can, they are very different on the surface but share fundamental internal similarities. Oh, and the fact that they're EXES? The romantic tension and the longing? The familiarity and banter they had in every scene they shared?This hit the jackpot on literally every relationship trope that I love. I'd much rather watch a "getting back together" than a "falling in love for the first time" story.

All of this and the fact that they [are] gay. It's really that simple sometimes.

In broad strokes, what is next for you as an artist and/or as a fan?

I have a few [Adventure Time] comics ideas\scripts on the back burner and one that is in the making. I think I'll dabble into some Nintendo fanart cause I've been playing a lot of Smash Bros and [Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild] lately.
