The thing about the bs ending is that it’s fundamentally artistic . I think to believe the flint dead ending requires a deliberate degree of cynicism that’s in conflict thematically with the story as a whole, and even if you disregard all that, main character has an entire exit speech to summarize it which approaches 4th wall. But, if that’s what you choose to do then ok, because the story is not explicitly asking the audience to come to a specific conclusion, but I do think it is asking them to question why they come to the conclusion they do. Which is what effective art is supposed to do. The ambiguity is there to make you interrogate yourself.
