Something I noticed in these character cards is that Sera and Sir Pentious are the only ones who got a front face picture and they are kind of similar with the sphere thing below them.

It gets even more interesting once you take into account that Sera is a seraphim, word that could be derived from the word "sarpa" which is serpent or naga, a creature that Pentious is. Seraphims are also described sometimes as fiery serpents with many eyes, so I wonder... could this possibly lead to somewhere regarding the similarities of these two?

An examination of the New Jade and Floyd Cards

CW: Spoilers for the Japanese Release, Talk of the discourse about the cards and how they were handled, discussions of anatomy, very brief mention of animal death (related to consumption and preparation of Moray Eels for eating - no images are shown and it is not gone into in graphic detail.)

TW: Extensive talks about Sexualization and information on the correlation of sexualization and it's impacts in the second half of the post. There is a heading in purple if you would like to skip this section.

I touched on this very briefly in another post, but I honestly really like how the Jade and Floyd card art is handled for multiple reasons when we're talking about how it's handled and I want to give a bit of an explanation why! I am far from a marine biologist, but I was examining the biology of eels and wanted to give my two cents considering that they boys are both in their merman forms.

Of course, the cards have not released just yet, so we only have the promotional images to go off of as well as the other canon materials.

The biggest complaint I've seen over the cards generally speaking is the anatomy, but I also think that's not considering two important facts - 1: this is a dream as a few people have stated, so we're likely seeing the versions of Jade and Floyd that they see as their "ideal" or internal versions of themselves. 2: Jade and Floyd aren't human. Despite what they look like after the potion, I feel like it's important to note this because Moray Eel Anatomy is wildly different from human anatomy and that doesn't get taken into account. The second highest criticism is that these cards are overly sexualized. I will go into more depth about that, but to give my short thoughts for now, I truly think it could have been argued either way though in this instance a lot of the arguments I've seen have been rather bad faith.

So, let's get started first with the anatomy. Both cards have been criticized, for the anatomy of the drawing. Starting with Jade's card, the thing I see complained about most often is how muscular his chest and shoulders are. I think its a bit more of an issue with the clarity of the image than anything else, which yes, is an art issue but allow me to explain my line of thinking regarding this. First, examining Jade's positioning and anatomy by examining the anatomy of the art.

First, let's start by saying that I definitely think the anatomy of Jade's card is sort of correct, but I think what roughly equates to his trapezius muscles are a bit exaggerated for the position he's in. However, what I believe the artist is going for is that Jade is putting weight on his arms and pushing himself up, which is making his scapulae flex backwards. You see this a lot when people push themselves up out of pools using a solid object.

1. Notice how the scapula pulls the muscles of the back out to a sharp point at the end of where the bone rests.

2. Notice the way that the force exerted by pushing has caused a 'ridge line' between the different parts of the deltoid muscles.

3. The pectoral muscles seem a little more convex when the trapezius muscles are pulling them upwards.

Basically, I think the artist knew generally what they were going for, but the trapezius muscle throws it off a bit. Here's a quick edit to show what I feel like would look a little more natural for this card and likely solve a lot of the issues people have with the art.

All of this to say, I don't necessarily think that Jade is "extremely muscular" as a lot of people have argued, because I think there's a misconception that his deltoid muscle is his bicep because of the slightly wonky scapula and trapezius and deltoid anatomy. (TLDR, I think the artist just drew his scapula and delts too low, making his neck look unnecessarily muscular because of the lighting in the card.) It's also worth noting that the pitched angle of the "camera" in this card makes his right shoulder look larger than it would if you were looking at him at a lower angle because of the perspective involved.

That being said, I think it's worth considering that Jade is also a hiker and is confirmed to go climbing, so it makes sense for Jade to have broader and more defined shoulder muscles than Floyd does. I also think it's a bit of a strange thing to argue that at 17 he shouldn't be this muscular. Yes, late teens tend to be smaller than people in their twenties because their bodies are still developing, but 17 is not prepubescent - the average 17 year old can build muscle that would be in line with the edit, especially if they regularly engage in activities that use those muscles regularly for things like rock climbing or swimming - two activities that we know that Jade does.

Whether or not this is a dealbreaker for wanting this card depends on the person - personally the anatomy doesn't bother me too much because for me it's still readable what the intention was. I can definitely see why some people might read it as Jade having a very muscular giraffe neck.

Now for Floyd's card, though I think this is relevant to both of them:

The issue I've seen most people have is particularly with his abdominal muscles being so defined. This one I can see either side of the argument on, I must admit, but I think it is worth noting that Floyd and Jade aren't human.

The reason this is relevant is because moray eels are mostly skin and muscle, with very few bones and very little fat. Granted we're taking liberties with this because they're mermen and it's not like we have x-rays of their bones to go off of.

(If you would like to see what I mean, there are videos on YouTube of Moray Eels being fileted and prepared for food. I will not link them, since that is graphic for a lot of people, but if you seek them out, it's easy to see that a moray's skin attaches pretty directly to the muscles of their bodies, and they have the epidermis (external), dermis, hypodermis, and beneath that, muscle.)

All of this to say, there's a feature we can't be certain whether or not the eel twins have, which is that in humans, there is a layer of subcutaneous fat beneath the skin, then the abdominal muscles, then a layer of visceral fat, and finally the abdominal wall that hold our organs in place.

Now, we know there's differences between Moray Eels and Moray Eel merfolk, as Jade and Floyd pretty clearly have a ribcage, however we also know that their external bodies in their merfolk form have similar fish traits for obvious reasons. To be as non-graphic about is as I can, there's a reason they're allowed to not wear clothes without this being an AO game - likely because their genital anatomy structures would be more in-line with cetaceans or fish. (It's hard to say which, because we don't really have confirmation if Merfolk are mammals or fish, which has a surprising amount of ramifications for their anatomy in regard to fat placement.) We also can't be certain if they have hip bones or if they simply have muscles that may make it appear that way.

That long and roundabout explanation is to say we can't be sure where their 'human' anatomy ends and where the 'fish' anatomy begins. It's entirely possible that below the ribcage, Jade and Floyd's only other bones are their spine. Regardless, I think either way it's entirely possible that a part of the reason their muscles look so defined is because they don't carry their fat in their bodies like humans do. I would say this is, again, pretty much up to headcanon unless we get some kind of canon confirmation that they have an organ structure from their hips up that is humanoid.

Also for any of my long-time followers, I am not letting you forget - these two still pee out of their butts in eel form. It doesn't matter if they're mammals or fish, the structures for an underwater creature would dictate that they pee out of their ass and that's hilarious. :-)

On Sexualization:

Now, finally onto the part of these cards that's controversial, which is that they are sexualized. I would like to start off by saying that, quite frankly, this is going to depend entirely on how you look at the cards and how you personally feel about them and your personal relationship to sexualization. I'm not trying to tell you how to feel about these cards, but I do want to make a case that if that is an argument that you want to make, you should do it with consideration to making your argument sound, and realize that there are going to be bad faith arguments on either side of this issue. Engaging with people who are making these bad faith arguments is going to do nothing but wear you out - they have no intention of changing their stance on the matter and quite frankly are not worth spending your time on. I would advise for your mental wellbeing to not invest yourself too much into these arguments and instead curate your internet experience so that you're not subjected to having to deal with those bad faith arguments and instead giving your time and consideration to those who actually make a case for their argument with proof.

Sexualization is a tricky subject to navigate, especially when it comes to Jade and Floyd. and I can see how an argument could be made for either side, and since there's not really a way to know the intentions of the original artist for these cards and what their biases were when making it, it's a little hard to say whether or not they were intended to be viewed that way. There are a few things to take into consideration with this argument, and I encourage you to come to your own conclusions and research more into the topic, however here are some of the points that should be considered when taking this into account:

Note: Catherine Lumby - author that frequently examines gender issues, Patrice Oppliger - has written about impact of media and popular culture on teenage demographics, Audre Lorde - Intersectional Feminist and Civil Rights activist that has written on a scope of topics regarding human-rights issues.

If these cards have a negative impact on someone, that's hard to quantify short of an intensive study or survey. Even then, it would be hard to get a good understanding of it because if you are an English Speaking TWST fan, you are limited to what opinions you would get from the rest of the English Speaking fandom. Similar sentiments go for the Japanese fandom - you will get a limited view because of the language difference, and you would likely get skewed statistics.

The age demographics for the game are older than what a lot of people think in the English-speaking fandom. Though TWST is generally pretty child friendly, the largest parts of the fandom are between the ages of 16-26. It can be surmised based on this that TWST's target demographic is older teens and young adults, and is likely designed around this.

From that same survey, Twisted Wonderland's player base is largely female.

Sexualization is a persistent issue through all types of media and advertising, but has been typically more studied in it's impact on girls who were raised in a sexualized environment.

Fans have been requesting a merfolk card for Jade and Floyd since their forms were revealed.

There should be an understanding that if an argument can be made about Jade and Floyd's cards being sexualized, this same argument should be applied to other cards from the game as well. This would include the tropical wear cards, the birthday jacket cards, several of the halloween cards, etc.

THIS CARD IS STUNNING, WORDS CAN NOT DESCRIBE HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS CARD. SO I'M GOING TO WRITE A CARD ANALYSIS OF IT.

first of all, that 3 clover ring is so cute( also the jewellery on the hair is a 3 clover)

This may be a stretch but MMJ character colour?

Blue = Haruka

Pink = Airi

Teal = Shizuku

Orange = Minori

(also Haruka and Minori colours both being a heart??? minoharu??? jk jk...unless???)

MORE CLOVER MOTIF???? The hearts on the crown resemble a clover

Reference to colour of drop? ( I know I'm reaching here)

Now onward to the bird, it seems to be a dove which can symbol hope, particular in looking forward for tomorrow. In fact in MMJ main story ep 3 minori says "Well, I have faith! Tomorrow will always be a better day! So in order to help everyone believe things can always get better...I'm here to give everyone hope for a better tomorrow! Those are the words that guide me! And that's why I'm not ever giving up, no matter the odds! I will keep giving more until I pass! More, more!" This is not the only Minori talked about bring hope to tomorrow. Minori has also said "What? Well, um... How about Delivering Hope for Tomorrow?"

I've also noticed that each card has flowers, even ena's 2 star card, I was original thinking it was a dandelion but the petals do not resemble it instead I think it may be a Sundrop flower which honestly I think fit as the petal resemble a 4 leaf clover but also a symbol of endurance as they survive in adversity, this reminds me of Minori's character development in Let's Deliver! HOPEFUL STAGE ♪ but also her speech in main story shown above. Sundrops often sunshine and positivity which I could not use better word to describe Minori, she could be seen as a sunshine to more more jump as she try inspire hope in her fans as she want to bring them the happiness that Haruka gave her. Greg states that "They're said to stimulate the solar plexus chakra, which may enhance feelings of self-assurance and empowerment." This could be a referance to Dear my past self

Time for another stretch, the tea set could be a reference to my Airi's card My first tea ceremony? but Secret Operation Valentine's Day as it also has a tea set, and it could explain the ribbions on Minori.

I've also noticed that two other flower themed card has this corset?

The door in the wedding card reminds me of the background of Minori's world link card

This heart on the chair could be a reference to the MMJ world link cards

In fact this card really reminds me of Minori's world link card with the pink curtains and the lighting coming from the window. We also see Minori looking in the mirror in both cards.

Lastly these flowers, I think the pink flower are roses and the white flower are gerbera daisy. Pink roses symbolise pink roses represent sweetness, femininity, appreciation, and admiration which I think refers to Shizuku with sweetness and femininity as she was a model and admiration for haruka as she was minori's idol. Airi could aslo be femininity as she wanted to be more girlish. I think appreciation could be for MMJ, her fans and the vocaloids. While white gebera daisy symbolise purity or a childlike innocence. To be honest I didn't know what to write for this one but it could refer to Minori's childlike innocence as she never felt dishearten being rejected by 50 auditions. Also seen in Minori's MMJ world link card it seems to be a dream of Minori's from when she was a child.

Hey hey heyyy!!! Ik this blog is mostly for art but.... wanted to dump my thoughts somewhere so here's some slight analysis on Rui Yashios new 5 star card & the flowers on her violin!!!!!

Firstly: I'm no flower expert so my identification isn't very good hence my uncertainty on the last flower

Apologies in advance if I mess anything up <3

First flower: I'm like 90% sure this is a yellow rose!!!

In west culture this particular rose colour is known for representing friendship, which fits very well with morfonicas close bond! It's been stated in stories multiple times that whether Rui realises it or not: she's become fond of the band & the members within

From what I could find this meaning essentially stays the same in Japan, with the sometimes added meaning of inner courage which again fits very well with morfonicas general theme :)

Second flower: Okay now I'm not 100% sure what this one is so I have 2 ideas

(1) It could be a daffodil: this flower typically represents new beginnings & hope! Of course change & new beginnings is a heavy theme in morfonica, Rui having an abundance of these flowers on her violin makes perfect sense: she's looking forward to the future of where the band will lead her & the hope aspect fits the whole band as a whole!!!!

(2) It could be a daylily: tbh I couldn't find much of what this flower could represent but generally it's a positive symbol & can also sometimes represent new beginnings!!! However I also found something else interesting: it can represent thankfulness & gratitude. I think this is very interesting be I can go two ways either the thankfulness is ruis subconscious view to the rest of morfonica for guiding her down a different path orrr the thankfulness is moronica towards rui for her support & sticking with the band

Of course if I actually knew the band story I could probably try & make more specific connections but I suppose l'lI have to wait for that 💔

In summary: Rui is such an interesting specimen & I love her so much l'm willing to analyse flowers for her 🫡

I think it's really cool how these two cards are kind of bookends to the tsumsitter series ↓

^ Heartslabyul all raising wands together. While for Diasomnia only Malleus takes the lead as the three just watch over him with some distance.

All members of HSB are equally shined on by the sun, while the lighting on Mal makes him alone shine while separating him from the others who literally do become his followers of the night.

Very fitting for their respective group dynamics and extremely cool artistic symbolism, and one of the reasons why I see these two as the best in the housewarden tsumsitter lineup🔥🔥🔥 this really was our twisted wonderland as they say or something

So I've been looking into some card meanings for BSD stuff, and I've noticed the four king cards perfectly fit the four leaders of the major gifted organisations:

Mori for the King of Spades, Dazai literally calls him the embodiment of logic in the manga, and despite what most people think, he is normally very fair to his subordinates.

This one is almost too on the nose, it literally describes Fitzgerald exactly

The king of clubs for Fukuchi, while it mostly fits for his persona as a hero it does fit if you remember that he is trying to fight for what he believes is justice

And finally the king of hearts for Fukuzawa, He stands apart from all the others as his only concern is the happiness and comfort of his children subordinates

I just love seeing how well these all fit, its very possible this is just a coincidence, but given Asagiri's track record i think it might be at least slightly intentional.

I like to think that romance with Idia widely differs depending on the time you’ve been in a romantic relationship.

1. “Just started dating” stage.

If you're reading Idia fanfiction, there is an 80% chance this is the stage your relationship is on.

Idia is… treating you like a very precious stranger. He's on his toes and seeks your approval in whatever he's doing. He is going to great lengths to understand the theory of dating and your hobbies - so you can maybe share even more interests - but won’t really act on anything.

He’s constantly surprised by every romantic move you make and you have numerous occasions to adore his cherry blush and various puckles of hair igniting with pink and red. He stutters a lot and can’t focus on anything in your presence.

Idia will outright reject any suggestions for bolder moves. He’s unprepared, and although guilt is eating him from the inside, he is not up to anything you two weren’t doing as friends. Well, maybe handholding, kissing, and cuddling get a (hard) pass, but you are the only one initiating these things.

He will try his best to reciprocate effort, though.

2. “Have been dating for a while” stage.

It’s an interphase between two very different stages, so he’s a funny mix: a very shy outsider and a cocky genius at the same time.

Gaming sessions will be the centre of your couple's time. Idia regularly invites you to his dorm, sometimes even on spontaneous sessions when a new event comes up or he has found a new game that looks very cool. You share snacks, drinks, and clothes (read: you have unwritten permission to claim his blouses).

This boy would be dead without you and Ortho, and with that knowledge, you make it your mission to (somehow) tidy up his room, buy some cosmetics, healthier food, etc. If you are up to organizing a “self-care evening”, he will be hesitant at first but will be looking forward to it after a while, with some older anime. (I like to think it would be a magical girl series like Sailor Moon, Tokyo Mew Mew or Chobits, or some shoujo).

In exchange, he might construct some little gadgets (maybe anime-themed?) for you, helps you get the merch you want, and supports you in your games.

At this point, he doesn’t weigh his words much. He’s still easy to fluster, but he comes with comebacks right away. The most flirty he gets on the phone when it’s late at night and you are using a chat to talk, especially when you are not in the same room. 3. Long-term relationship stage.

He knows you are doomed to him and shamelessly takes advantage of that.

He has no claims against calling you in the middle of the night to watch him sharing his screen when he pulls for a character he wants to get in the gacha system. He believes your presence brings him luck, so he must have you when he does crucial things!

Idia disses your taste in fictional men. Sometimes, he reads the dialogues out loud from the otome games you play. He may alter them, which can make you either huff or laugh. If you read or write fanfiction, he might read them too, giving you an out loud commentary on some fragments and asking you if you are that desperate for dates so you are sending fanfiction to inspire him. If you say yes, he will hum and return to whatever he was doing before, but he might plan something out that you will preferably be able to do in his room.

One sun pun : Gabriel's tomatoes

Hello there tomato-wonderer @scottishmushroom. I saw your post about tomatoes and I come bearing fruit answers! I was also wondering about the tomatoes, and it led me down a spiralling path of tarot cards and visual puns. I'm pretty sure Gabriel's entire entrance scene in season 2 is based on tarot card 19: The Sun. Allow me to explain...

Here is the Sun tarot card in the Rider-Waite deck, which was used as visual inspiration both season's 1 & 2 of GO. Notice anything familiar?

All of the elements of The Sun card are hidden in these opening shots quite cleverly. I am suggesting here that the red banner (that the sun carries on the card) is represented by the spill of red tomatoes because: it's a sun pun! You see tomato in English & French from the Spanish word "Tomate" that took over in the 1850s, but there's also an older expression for tomatoes that was used since it's import to Europe, that is still the origin of the word in Italian : Pomodoro.

In French we used to call it pomme d'or: just like in Italian today, the French (and the normans who were the reigning class in England) would have called it a Golden or Sun Apple, due to it's need for extreme sunshine to grow.

Which is a great callback to Gabriel's character in season one because of this iconic line:

But that's not all: Tomato was also called "Pomme D'amour" or love apple, due to how it looked like a human heart. So Gabriel walking into Soho triggering a spill of bright red sun-apples also has a double meaning as he steps on one : crushing a heart. Still not enough sun for you? Well, there's more! While Gabriel is marching into Soho we get a musical number called "Into Soho" on the Prime video series soundtrack. However, once Gabriel gets to the door and knocks, it quickly switches to a preview of a theme we won't hear until episode 6, when Gabriel opens the fly and remembers : it's a track on disc 2 called "Gabriel Revealed".

Yes, haha they made a secret "Gabriel is naked" joke in the soundtrack when he is revealed. The bonkers part comes when your realize what number the track is in the list....
