“Slytherin!”

The silence that echoed throughout the Great Hall was deafening, but it was the low hissing that followed it that made the hair on the back of Lily’s neck stand on end.

The purebloods that made up the majority of Slytherin were staring up at the small figure with teeth bared and a vicious glint in their eyes.

A Muggleborn sorted into the house renown for its ideals of blood purity… it spelled nothing but disaster for the poor child, which would worry Lily no matter what, but this time was different. This time it wasn’t a stranger walking into the snake pit.

It was her baby sister.

Lily could do nothing but watch with growing panic as Briar’s small body stilled under the Sorting Hat. She saw Professor McGonagall gently lift the Hat off of her, the woman’s lips pressed tight with barely concealed anger at the green clad students. And Lily didn’t know what she expected. She knew Briar wasn’t one to crumble and break; her feisty stubbornness always managed to out weigh everything else. But even though she knew this, she still watched-eyes wide with shock- as her little sister stood up from the stool, back straight and legs firm, and lifted her chin defiantly in the air as she walked confidently toward the table hissing its displeasure at her. Dark green eyes stared down each and every one of them, not a trace of fear or anxiety to be seen.

And Lily knew, because she knew her sister, that those eyes were burning with all the intensity of a fire, silently telling all of the purebloods currently looking down at her:

‘Bite me. I fucking dare you.’

Her baby sister always did have a foul mouth after all.

He considers asking one last time for Regulus to come back. Be with him. They can still fix this. But he knows the answer well enough by this point, and he’s so tired of hearing it. He isn’t sure that he can take it again, not like this, in these circumstances. Worse than a simple refusal is the thought of Regulus’s face going soft with pity, of him saying: It’s too late.

So instead, James says, “Hi.”

Regulus closes his eyes, appearing exhausted, appearing so worn thin that James could reach out and break skin with just the lightest brush of his fingers. “What did I tell you?”

“You know me better than that,” James says. “I never do as I’m told.”

“Don’t I,” Regulus murmurs, opening his eyes. “What do you want from me?”

He says it bracingly, guardedly, as though he expects James to have some grand plan in all this. He has always overestimated James’s adherence to his principles and always underestimated the depth of James’s feelings for him. James lied to Sirius for him. James is still lying to Sirius for him. There’s no grand plan, no agenda, no reason except the fact that he can never seem to learn his lesson.

There was something so utterly soothing about watching Hope create, of how she managed to place her thoughts onto a blank canvas in a way she might never be able to with words. Regulus understood that struggle; unfortunately, he lacked her talent and thus most of his thoughts remained trapped within his skull.

Even so, he did not look at the drawing forming beneath her hand, gaze drawn from the page of his book up to her relaxed features. This, too, was a benefit he enjoyed; she always looked calmer within this little room they had created for themselves, uninterrupted by the world. Without thinking, his hand reached out to brush away a strand of hair that had fallen into her face, blocking his sight of her. Gently, not wanting to break her concentration, he tucked it back behind her ear.

welcome welcome one and all to me posting about my fic and welcome to my mailbox if you want to send me stuff you'd like to see in the fic (i will consider them even if they dont make it to the fic)

this is a band au for the marauders era BUT the original marauders are not the band. let me explain.

Band: Sirius, Peter, Marlene, Dorcas (no band name yet so shoot your shot if you want to)

the marauders era characters have a LOT of different roles here. Regulus and Pandora are dancers, Mary and Peter grew up together & met Remus in highschool in America and did music but now Mary and Remus are somewhat duo singers. (i made Remus southern you'll get why in the fic) Alice is kind of an enigma but we'll get to know her. I'll show you all her colours i promise. Evan manages Mary and Remus and has such a goofy big brother personality. MINERVA the queen that she is, is basically the band's mother/manager. fluffy black brothers!! oh, and andromeda is dead.

i know what you're thinking "where the fuck is james?? lily?? barty??" hehe WELL you're not gonna like this. lily is the villain here and not in a good way. it was a VERY toxic marylily and lily is the Casual girl (chappell roan) ANYWAAAY you're gonna see a LOT of that BUT she does have her redemption arc. i think. maybe.

barty broke up with sirius 2 months before the beginning of the fic (which starts on their american tour at the last couple concerts) they grew up together, its very bittersweet, might give you heartburn. AGAIN redemption arc, they do have a heart-to-heart.

and uhh james is a very happy very sudden very scandalous surprise

ch. 1

this fic in short is the band through their last leg of the american tour when mary flies out early and sirius asks her to join them for the rest of the tour and the european tour in a couple months. mary and sirius hold each other up through harsh breakups and slowly find new love. the marauders era do a lot of dumb shit make a lot of memories. exes come back and get dragged out, maybe-soulmates enter their lives and life happens all at once. but theyre still just kids and they have a lot of laughs

don't worry guys, every couple shall get their minute of fame

basically the journey (and reflective of a couple of characters) of their life together. they find love, they find FRIENDSHIP, they find beauty in the little things, they find laughter and peace and passion. this entire fic for me was to discover all the little things, the day to day things that makes life what it is: beautiful. it's filled with jokes and family and bittersweet memories. its those moments you want to remember when you're old in your rocking chair or young on a porch swing. its all the little bright places.
