🏫School Mates (SuzaLulu x Reader)PT 1🏫
A/N: Testing the waters with posting the few fanfic content I have out so far for one of my nine fave anime ever. This reworked piece I've had for a long while is coming out. This AU is where you're a late new student at Ashford Academy. Yeah, it's sort of a love triangle. Hopefully, I can make this short story make sense in some way. All credit for Code Geass characters and pics goes to Sunrise.
DON'T COPY OR STEAL MY FANWORK, RATHER LIKE AND REBLOG. I hope you enjoy.

"Y/n … Y/n … Y/N!"
You get awoken from your dream by the calling of your name. Your head resting on your folded arms snaps up in attention to who spoke out only to spot violet eyes trained on you, exasperatedly looking at you.
"Being the new student and sleeping during class isn't a good way to make a good impression. Be grateful you sit behind me, otherwise you'd have your neck strung out by the teacher."
You then noticed students parting as class was over "Mmm … sorry … Lelouch." You mumble sleepily as your rub your tired eyes.
Said man, Lelouch, glared a bit more before his eyes softened, sighing before running a hand through his hair. "Honestly, where would you be without me?"
"I'd be dead." You dully uttered. You get hit lightly on the head by a rolled up paper, making you pout at him. "Hey!"
"No time for jokes. Come on, the others are waiting." Lelouch put the paper in his bag before taking your hand and pulling you to your feet, dragging you behind him.
"Lelouch, I can walk to the student council room just fine without you dragging me like a rag doll." You pitifully moaned as you felt sparks run through your hand as his held yours tighter taking the lead.
"You've been attending here for weeks now and you still get lost in these halls." Lelouch reminded you in matter of fact tone. His tone made you stick your tongue out with his back facing you. "And I'd quit sticking my tongue out if I were you or else you'll attract flies."
"Come on, Lelouch. Cut her some slack. She's still a late transfer, after all." An amused voice lightly chided as your free hand was held by a callous, warm hand that easily pulled you free from Lelouch's grip. "I got your back, Y/n." You turned around to see Suzaku in time as he gently bumped your shoulder with his fist, smiling carefree.
"My knight in shining armor," you softly cheered as you hugged Suzaku's arm, giving a closed eye smile as both guys blushed as they thought it was one of the cutest smiles they've ever seen. "Thank you."
"You're welcome." Suzaku laughed a bit, smiling toothily back at you.
"If you two are going to flirt in my face, I'm not sticking around to watch." Lelouch rolled his eyes, he almost sounded like he was jealous; especially when deep down he didn't like you hugging Suzaku's arm in his presence. And he didn't know he would feel that sort of emotion over such a silly thing. But he couldn't keep a small smile from growing on his face as he shook his head to clear those ridiculous thoughts. "Come on, you two."
When you did arrive …
"Okay everyone, time for GUTS~!" Milly was loud and flamboyant as always.
"Aw come on, Prez! Another guts spell right from the start?" Rivalz complained, even though underneath he was secretly swooning for her hard.
"Um … hello …" Nina was typing at her computer, being meek as usual.
"Nice of you three to finally show up." Kallen said nonchalantly.
"Hi, Lulu~! Ready for another day of good old student council work~!?" Shirley ran over to greet Lelouch, teeming with a giddy, enthusiastic personality.
"Ready as always. You all should know that by now." Lelouch smiled charmingly, making Shirley almost swoon as the meeting commenced.
As the daily meeting began and went on for an hour and a half, you couldn't help but have your eyes travel around the room, landing on each single person. Every person here welcomed you into their school lives and their personal lives in some way.
Milly was as flirtatious as she was dramatic in her own lovable way.
Rivalz crushing on the pres hard while also being a goofball.
Nina, well, she was a shy introvert but a genius beneath … even though there were times you felt suspicious towards her.
Shirley, such an upbeat, enthusiastic girl with a good heart even though she's obviously falling hard for Lelouch and making it so obvious to everyone.
And Kallen, looks calm and mysterious on the surface but you had a feeling there was more to her and you had no idea why but you kinda like her for it. They slowly but surely became the first ever friends you ever made.
Soon, the meeting ended and you walked between Lelouch and Suzaku to the clubhouse which is also Lelouch's home on campus that he shared with his maid Sayako; you get the impression there was more to her like with Kallen as someone not to underestimate, and his little sister Nunnally … she was like the little precious sister you never thought you wanted; spending quality time with her especially when Lelouch was away doing his own thing.
Speaking of, Lelouch and Suzaku even … they were like two sides of the same coin. Two peas in a pod. So similar yet so different in their own respective ways. Lelouch is the brains, Suzaku is the brawn, but put them together … there's nothing they can't accomplish. You couldn't have one without the other and you wouldn't have it any other way.
In fact, it was Lelouch himself that allowed you to live with him and his sister in the clubhouse and asked Milly to convince her grandfather to allow it since the dorms on campus were already full. You may not remember much of your life before coming here, but a lot of meaning was brought back into your life, gaining new memories and a new life instead.
'So, why do I still have this nagging feeling in the back of my mind … this added pressure deep within my heart for how I feel towards these two guys … seems familiar. Whether it's good or bad … I don't know.'
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
"I like pancakes with marshmallows on top~! Heeheehee~! Yippee~! Whee~!" You blurted out randomly, causing Nunnally to laugh gleefully as she clapped, making you laugh too. You had just finished dinner with Nunnally and the guys; Suzaku was invited to eat over since he's their occasional guest as well as their childhood friend, and you were currently playing with Nunnally's hair. From the moment you met her, your heart instantly melted at the pure innocence that is Nunnally Lamperouge that compelled you to protect the precious girl with all your might!
"Oh, I'd love to try that sometime! Can we?" Nunnally had hope laced in her voice.
"Your wish is my command, my lady." Lelouch smiled charmingly, bowing before his little sister, making her giggle.
"I second that request, please." You raised your hand, smiling bashfully.
"At your service, my lady." Suzaku appeared by your side, also bowing to you, making your cheeks heat up and feel all fluttery inside. His eye closed smile radiated sunshine that is this wholesome boi.
As Lelouch gathered the empty plates to take to the kitchen to clean them up, you noticed him stopping to side glance at you, nodding his head for you to follow, before walking through the doorway. "I um … I'll be back in a bit, Nunna."
"Okay. Suzaku, do you want to make paper cranes with me? Miss Sayako and I were working on some earlier."
"That sounds fun. I'd love to." Seeing him gaze affectionately at her like another older brother to her made your heart skip a beat before you walked to the kitchen.
You spotted Lelouch's back to you as he washed the dishes. You slowly approached him, feeling nervous as you wondered what he wanted. You rubbed your arm as you do when you're anxious. The sound of his voice made you halt in your tracks.
"You and Nunnally have gotten closer over time. It feels like just yesterday when I met you; a meek new girl to our class. And yet, as days passed by, that very same girl became a part of our daily lives. As a school mate, then a student council member, and now a friend. For what was once hollow is now becoming whole again. At least, that's my basic sum of it."
You felt your stomach tie itself in knots as you timidly approached him, "And now?"
You watched as the reflection of his calm face in the window above the sink looked back at you; his violet eyes twinkling with speculation, before looking over his shoulder, now looking amused. "You look like a scared little thing with that look on your face. Relax. I'm not gonna bite."
"A – Are you sure about that?" You gulped audibly.
"I'm serious. I'm grateful to you for being here for Nunnally in my stead. Don't get me wrong. I'm grateful to Sayako and the student council being around to spend time with her when I'm busy with stuff … and I don't say this as much as I should … but … thank you." The smile he gave to you felt genuine and it made your heart flutter.
"It – it's fine. Nunnally … she's an absolute angel. And I'm grateful to her and you and everyone for accepting me into the student council and your friend group – !"
You stop speaking mid sentence. You froze, stunned in shock at the feel of lips pressed against your cheek. It took you a minute before you blinked your eyes back into focus from the daze you were in. "Consider this my gift to you."
You slowly raised your hand to touch your cheek; the tingling feeling where his lips touched your skin made something within you click into place. Your eyes traveled to meet his; you swore you just saw them glow magenta for a moment there. But his eyes were fine. Very fine in your opinion as you became lost in their beautiful violet sea; almost like delving deep into his soul and searching for something beyond your understanding.
You felt an unfathomable pull to him, making you lean closer as you noticed he did the same when the realization that Lelouch kissed your left cheek made you snap out of it; face aflame as you covered your mouth to muffle your squeak of surprise, snapping Lelouch of his apparent trance as well as he blinked several times to get back into focus.
"Mmm … I swear, everything I say and do gets you so easily flustered, doesn't it?" He laughed softly, even though his cheeks were flushed red too.
"N – No!" That just made him snicker in his hand. "I – I should head back now."
"But seriously, Y/n." You looked back to see his smile still there, tender and true. "Thanks."
"Anytime."
You returned to the living room and felt a smile break out at the sight of Nunnally and Suzaku smiling, laughing, making paper cranes together when Suzaku noticed you and waved you over to help out. But you were still reeling from what transpired in the other room.
'Lelouch kissed me. Of all people, me! It was on the cheek, but still! I don't know that much about his personal life; aside from his gambling trips with Rivalz. Did he kiss anyone before, cheek or otherwise? Before me?' You couldn't get that image of Lelouch's bemused expression out of your mind. You also couldn't ignore the fact that you felt Suzaku's eyes on you, a suspicious glaze to them.
Sooner than you expected, it was time for Suzaku to leave. You were lost in thought as you watched Suzaku bent down to hug Nunnally before nodding at Lelouch only to have your name being called on, pulling you out of it to say good bye. But as he smiled and waved, walking out the door, you watched his retreating form while Lelouch pushed Nunnally's wheelchair to her bedroom to get her ready for bed. That's when you felt the same magnetic pull with Lelouch reappear, making you follow the soldier outside.
"Suzaku, wait!"
He stopped in mid walk and turned back around, curiosity and concern flashed on his face as he cocked his head to the side, making him appear that much cuter. "Y/n? What is it? Is something wrong?"
"No … the exact opposite, in fact. I feel …" Why are you feeling this way, twice in a row? "I just want to say thank you. Not just for tonight, but for every day since we became friends. It means a lot to me." You rubbed your arm, shyly smiling. "You … mean a lot to me."
His smile lite a fire in your heart. "You mean a lot to me too. You, Lelouch, Nunnally, the student council … you've all become so important to me." He walked towards you until you were standing face to face. "You above all else."
You gaped at seeing his face start to flush red and his green eyes became glossy and … tempted. "I … I am?"
He looked a bit stunned before his face broke out into a smile. "Aw, come on. You honestly can't see why?"
What happened next took you by surprise, almost as much as Lelouch's did.
The feeling of Suzaku's lips pressed against your other cheek; once normal but now burning with heat from those soft velvety lips of his. He pulled back to give a bashful smile, scratching his cheek, "Is that enough proof for you?"
You gingerly touched your cheek, feeling the warmth beneath your fingertips, as butterflies fluttered in your stomach and your heart was racing quickly. But that's when you noticed his green eyes glow; those mesmerizing emerald gems now stuck upon your awaiting face. His eyes softened as did his smile.
Your cheeks burned as you smiled shyly at him. "I … think so."
Suzaku laughed softly before holding your hands. "Y/n, you do mean that much to me. This past month spent in school with you, sharing classes and having study sessions, even just spending time with you like that has been … wonderful." You smiled the more he talked, leaning closer as did he when you noticed his eyes looking over you to far behind you; suspicion laced in them. "It's getting late. I should head back to my place. Have a good night … " Suzaku pulled your hands up to litter gentle kisses on top of them, making you smile bashfully, " … Y/n."
You took him by surprise as you leaned up to kiss his cheek "Good night, Suzaku."
You waved good-bye as his goofy smiling face looked back at you over his shoulder as he waved back too while hurrying off, almost falling over his feet from not watching where he was going, causing you to laugh out loud at his stumble.
But unbeknownst to you but not to the brunette was that Lelouch was watching outside his bedroom window.
He watched his best friend kiss your cheek as he did earlier.
He watched as Suzaku ran off, leaving you smiling and blushing as you felt yourself floating off your feet as you walked back inside.
He did not look happy. Not one bit.

Saving Grace
25 Days of Simpmas: Day Seven December 7th: Lelouch Lamperouge, Rank 19 Anime: Code Geass Event Masterlist
“Oh dear. That Zero. He truly is. A terrifying man. I sure hope. I don’t run. Into him.”
Your choppy, robotic commentary was the best you could contribute to the student council’s latest fearful rant about the masked man, Zero, but luckily no one aside from Lelouch had seemed to notice your insincerity.
He smirked to himself as he pretended to flip through paperwork, clearly amused by your awful acting.
It was fine that he’d taken notice. You’d meant that comment for your boyfriend anyway. Ever since you found out that you were dating the leader of the Black Knights, you couldn’t help but poke fun at the whole situation. When you didn’t want to go to class, you’d say to him, “Boy. I’m really not feeling math class today. Would be a shame if some… vigilante were to burn down the math wing today. Cancel classes. I’m just saying, I wouldn’t mind.” When you were stuck in traffic, you’d sigh and say “Boy, I could really use a Knightmare right about now, just march through all the traffic. I wonder if I know anyone that has one.” Lelouch would chuckle to himself in the driver’s seat (because, of course, you were his passenger princess), and then he’d say something like, “And what if I was enjoying this alone time with you?”
He always enjoyed his time with you.
Sometimes he could even forget he had the weight of the world on his shoulders because you were his world and you made him feel weightless.
Sure, you teased him for being Zero, asked if the cape was really necessary or if he just liked being dramatic, asked how he could pilot a Knightmare when he could barely figure out the settings on the new TV, asked if he was really just cheating on you to go on dates with Suzaku and if so, could you join in? But at the end of the day, when all the joking and jesting subsided, more than being his alibi, you were his partner in crime, his ride or die, and you’d stay by his side until the end of time.
You’d do anything for him. And he’d do anything for you; he’d be anything for you. Every day that he was Zero was another day that he was building a better world for you to live in.
To some, Zero was a hero, a revolutionist, a symbol of hope; to others, Zero was a terrorist, an egoist, a power hungry maniac. To you, he was a reminder that somebody cared enough to be your sword, your shield, your suit of armor. And underneath that mask, he was still just a boy you were in love with, a boy who’d promised to come home to you each and every night, a boy who held himself to that promise more than he did anything else. He could be half dead, seeing stars, spitting blood, and he’d still stumble his way to your door.
You were always waiting at the door. Waiting to clean him up, to bandage his wounds, to tell him about your day, ask him about his, kiss him all better, cuddle him to sleep, fight off his demons with nothing more than your smile.
He kept a picture of your smiling face on him at all times, for just that reason. If he was going to die on some battlefield, somewhere far away from you, at least your smile could reach him, at least your smile could carry him to heaven when he more than deserved hell.
And when he got too wrapped up in his own thoughts, counting his sins, plotting his plagues, you were his guardian angel, pulling him from his purgatory.
You’d knock on his head lightly. “So serious. Must be some heavy planning going on in there. Save some brain cells for the rest of us.” Then you’d kiss his forehead over and over, massaging his temples with your thumbs, until he’d stopped thinking of anything but your touch.
Sometimes you’d try the cape on. Flounce around in it. Give dramatic bows. Do a little dance. And all his battery strategy would go out the window, laughter replacing it.
Sometimes he’d even have to reschedule his plans because you were so distracting. Of course, he’d have to come up with some brilliant excuse, because how else was he supposed to admit to the entirety of the Black Knights that he’d cancelled waging war on an enemy base just because his girlfriend refused to go watch a movie without him but today was the only day the movie was airing? He couldn’t very well tell them that the all-seeing, all-powerful Zero caved to her whims before she even stooped to begging. He couldn’t very well tell them that the mere thought of her pouting had him scooping her up in his arms and taking off with her, ready to fulfill her every fantasy. He couldn’t very well tell them that sometimes he considered quitting his little conquests just so he could have more time to make her breakfast in bed or play with her hair until she woke up.
Even the way you woke up was angelic.
The way you blinked the sleep from your eyes, searching for him, reaching for him, before you were even conscious enough to realize you were doing so. Then the way you smiled when you found him, wrapping your arms around him like you’d never let go again and snuggling into his chest like it was home. He wasn’t sure what he’d done to deserve you. He’d not done nearly enough.
He often thought to himself that if judgement day ever came, if he was ever allowed a pardon for his many sins, he’d owe his redemption all to you. If he was ever soft, if he was ever kind, if he was ever good, it was because of you. If his hands were stained, you washed them clean. If his soul was darkened, you brought your light. If he was a devil, you were an angel.
And you were his saving grace.

Two Vampire Twinks And Their Ghouls
Originally posted to AO3 in march of this year by yours truly. But I’m republishing it here because I feel like it. For a bit of context, this story is set in the World of Darkness series of games, mostly Vampire the Masquerade.
The Story
Two kindred sat at a table, both drinking only the finest blood from their cups. Both were wearing white clothes. The ventrue Lelouch was dressed in a very royal and decadent looking outfit, he also had a massive hat with a feather in it. Julian the Tzimisce was wearing a far simpler outfit that consisted of a white suit and a purple top hat. He cherished his hat as one of the few possessions he brought from his previous life as a mere human.
“I think we should do this more often.” Lelouch said to Julian. “Taking with you is a wonderful use of my time.” The compliment made Julian smile. “You are also quite wonderful to speak with.” Julian told Lelouch. The dawn was on the horizon, so the two of them had to wrap things up. Julian ordered some of his Ghoul slaves to tidy up for him and to prepare his resting chamber. “You’re welcome to stay for the day.” Julian told Lelouch who quickly accepted the offer.
“Now do you have a place for my body guard. Or will he have to stay where he is?” Asked Lelouch, Julian giggle before answering. “They can joy us until they need to get up.”
Randy and Suzaku sat side by side on an old couch. The two ghouls woke up when their masters arrived. “Good morning my lord.” Suzaku bowed his head when Lelouch entered the room. Randy reacted in much the same way to Julian. “How may I of assistance?” He said to Julian. “We wish for you to join us in our room.” Both ghouls then spoke in unison. “Yes my lord.”
The bed chamber was a windowless room with a coffin in the middle surrounded by dirt from Julian‘s hometown. “I take it you spared no expense.” Lelouch said to Julian. “So where do you keep the guest coffin?” Julian answered Lelouch‘s question by simply clapping his hands. Four ghouls then brought another coffin into the room. The ghoul on the front left was wearing clown makeup, the one on the front right was a skinny Hispanic man. On the back left was a pale ghoul with blond hair and on the back right was a twinkish Indian ghoul. “This is Theresa‘s coffin, but she’s been out of town for a while. So I doubt that she would mind.” Julian then ordered the ghouls to leave.
“I haven’t met her, what is her relation to you?” Asked Lelouch. “I mean is she a sister, friend or lover?”
Julian scoffed at the last one. “Good heavens no, I’m gay. She’s a close friend and we share a sire.” The mentioning of a sire made Lelouch think about his. The green haired woman who made him immortal as payment for a meal. “Now Randall, you’ve been a very good ninja for me. So I think you deserve a treat.” Julian pulled out a knife. When Randy saw the blade he instantly got down on his knees. Julian then cut his hand open. “Drink as much as you like.”
Randy’s eyes widened as he began lapping up the blood like a dog at a water bowl. Small drops of vitae went flying through the air. Randy was one of a few mortals that Julian knew chose to be blood bound. He loved the thrill and power that vitae gave him. Lelouch was somewhere disgusted by how messy of an eater Randy was. “Is this how he normally drinks?” Julian giggled a little before answering. “No, he’s normally a lot messier.”
Lelouch saw the thirst in Suzaku’s eyes. “Lelouch, may I…” Lelouch cut Suzaku off. “Don’t worry my knight, you may have some.” He cut the tip of his finger and showed it to Suzaku. His knight began to gently suck on his fingertips. Savouring every drop of vitae that made contact with his tongue. Each sip that the ghouls took eroded more of their free will away, and strengthen the bond between them and their vampire master.
Soon Lelouch pulled his hand away from Suzaku. “That’s enough for you.” Suzaku tried to give Lelouch the puppy dog eyes. “I wasn’t finished.” Suzaku said with a meek voice. He turned to see that Randy was still feeding. The ninja now had an expression of pure euphoria on his face. The phrase ‘the lights are on, but nobody is home’ came to the mind of Suzaku. “Come now Suzaku, I want you to rest with me.” Lelouch grabbed Suzaku by his jawbone and brought him in for a kiss.
When the two of them were lying together Lelouch closed the coffin and drifted off to sleep. Suzaku slept with Lelouch during the twilight hours between dawn and sunrise. When the time for him to get up came, he exited the coffin and saw Randy waiting for him. “Hey Suzaku, Julian told me that he wants me to go destroy a few old records.”
“Sure, is there anything else?”
“Well it’s…” Randy was terrible at lying, and so Suzaku immediately saw what was coming. “We also need to commit a little domestic terrorism.” Randy said with a forced smile. Suzaku sighed. “Ok, I can help.”
By the time the moon had risen and the sun had fallen set Lelouch was still resting in his coffin. He was fast asleep until he heard the noise.
‘Knock-tap-tap-knock-tap.’
“Two bits.” Lelouch said groggily before he opened the coffin up. After it was fully opened he was greeted by being smacked on the head with baton. He took a look at the vampire who hit him. She had dark purple hair and was wearing an old yellow cheerleader outfit. Two ghouls stood next to her. On the left was an Asian woman with dark blue hair and on the right was a pale woman with vibrant ginger hair.
“I take it you’re Theresa.”
“Yes now what are you doing in my coffin.” Theresa was clearly frustrated with him. Before Lelouch could say anything she cut him off. “Girls just take him out of the room.” The ghouls did what they were instructed and tossed him in to the hallway. He landed at the feet of Suzaku who called Randy and Julian over. “Oh my.” Said Julian. “I’m guessing he just met Theresa.” Added Randy.
The small group of friends said their goodbyes before Lelouch and Suzaku got into their car and drove away. After the car had fully disappeared into the night Randy turned to Julian and spoke. “I wouldn’t mind having them over again. Except Kallen.”
“You mean the redheaded Gangrel who hangs out with Lelouch?” Asked Julian. Randy placed his hands in his pockets and looked down at his feet. “She scares me. You do not want to see how she left a message for Charles and McFist.” The memory of what happened since shivers up Randy’s spine.
“Oh Randy.” Julian said with a smile. “How about instead of worrying about that you carry me to my bed chamber and we can rest together.”
“I would like that a lot.” Randy then picked up Julian and carried him to his bed chamber, where they would spend the rest of the night, watching movies and cuddling until the time for Julian to slumber came again.

Summary: Sometimes after getting shot and then piloting a Knightmare for the first time with broken ribs, you end up passing out afterward in rather inconvenient places. Sometimes then the person who finds you isn’t anyone from your unit but instead a girl from a rebel cell who takes you back to their base to make sure you don’t die. Sometimes you’re then reported to have killed someone rather important and subsequently field executed in absentia—sometimes this doesn’t occur before you’re even awake for it. Then sometimes, instead of finding out about your miraculous survival, your best friend who thought you might be dead instead hears about that report of said execution from his sister when he gets home. Sometimes he then spends the next week or so in a fugue state, not really caring about anything much at all while you’re off busy starting a resistance campaign based around safeguarding civilians. Sometimes that changes things.

A/N: For the @geasszine! These two would have such a hard time with each other after it all, seeing their regrets in the other, feeling their guilt on the current situation, and very “I should be paying this price but you shouldn’t”.
I also really wanted to write about Euphie/Suzaku but that would be going full AU territory XD I had to settle with just mentioning her. They’re my Sakura/Syaoran in another universe
…
…
…
…
Nunnally wasn’t one to shirk her duties. She never had done so before her brother had declared war on their father, and she certainly wouldn’t now after the blood and tears it had taken for her to become Empress. Regardless if it were menial paperwork or enduring the dismissive attitudes of her political aides, she wore her best smile as she handled her empire.
It was the only way she could look in the mirror without feeling guilt for surviving when her siblings hadn’t.
Still, she was only human. Staring at the document on her desk, it was hard for even her to keep her smile. A two-week festival marking the one-year anniversary of her coronation, an event celebrating the fall of the Demon Emperor.
Her fingers trembled as she touched the paper. A year wasn’t long enough to heal all wounds and her own still felt fresh. In another year, Nunnally would be the same age as Lelouch when all of this had started. In two, she would surpass him entirely.
And now she had to stamp a paper cementing his memory as a monster into the minds of her people.
Her hand clenched, crinkling the document.
“Your Majesty?” From across the room, Zero turned his head away from the window to her. Ever the guard, his posture was stiff, ready to spring into action even in the relative safety of her study.
Nunnally bit her lip. No, not Zero. Suzaku. At the very least, in her mind, she refused to kill her old friend. There would be one person who would know and acknowledge his sacrifice, even if she could never speak of it.
“It’s fine,” Nunnally said, trying and failing to keep her smile. Taking a deep breath, she smoothened the document. The creases remained. “Schneizel won’t like that.”
Not buying her excuses, Suzaku crossed over. The concern in his voice was more prominent now. “What is the matter?”
Even his speech was formal these days. It was almost enough to make her cry. They were the only ones who knew each other, who knew the truth, and even then, there was a wall between them. “It’s been a year.”
“Ah.” Suzaku was quick on the uptake. He gently squeezed her hand as he scanned the document. “A festival?”
“Yes, Schneizel organized it.” Perhaps that was the worst part of it all: her older brother had cheerfully and proudly set this up. Even if she wanted to talk about the past, about simpler times, Cornelia was still venomous from Euphy’s death and Schneizel didn’t care to reminisce.
There was something lonely about the fact that the only one she could talk to about Lelouch was a man who refused to remove his mask.
“You do not have to attend,” Suzaku suggested kindly.
“No.” Nunnally shook her head. “The people will wonder otherwise and I…I cannot let his work go to waste.” She bowed her head slightly, her shoulders heavy. “I just wish…I wanted to buy flowers but…there is nowhere to send them.”
There was no grave for Lelouch; it would have been vandalized, his body dug up and defiled. Euphemia’s grave had been destroyed along with Pendragon and most of their siblings. The only marker she could send lilies to was Shirley’s.
Suzaku’s breath hitched. “The school,” he said after a moment.
Nunnally softened, glancing at one of the photos on her desk. One of the only photos surviving of their time at the student council. She reached out, her fingers brushing her brother’s smiling image, his arm casually slung over Suzaku’s shoulders. Perhaps that had been the happiest time for him, before there had been no going back. “Yes, you’re right. He would have liked that.”
“Perhaps the clubroom,” Suzaku added softly.
"Yes.” Nunnally reached out, grabbing his hand. “And for Euphemia?”
He flinched. Despite the years, some wounds did not heal. “That…” Suzaku averted his gaze, his hand trembling. “You should decide.”
“I am not the only one who mourns her,” she said softly. “She would have wanted you to choose.”
“Zero is the reason she is dead,” Suzaku replied quietly.
“You didn’t do that.” Nunnally gritted her teeth. There were so few things left that could make her angry and most of them were concentrated on the man in front of her. Neither Zero nor Suzaku, neither dead nor alive, her constant companion straddled two worlds and she was tired of it.
She didn’t want to mourn one more person, especially if she saw that person on a daily basis.
“Despite what the world thinks, you aren’t dead,” Nunnally ground out, trying to keep her ire out of her voice. “You don’t have to act like you are! At least not here, not when it’s just you and me.”
Suzaku tried to pull his hand free, and she dug her nails in. “Your Majesty—," he started.
“Nunnally,” she corrected firmly. “We’re alone. Please, just call me by my name, Suzaku. Like you used to.”
He breathed in sharply before double-checking their surroundings. “You do not know who is listening.”
“You personally secured this room,” she reminded him, finally letting go of his hand. The walls were thick, the door solid wood, and the only ones who could enter were the two of them. “Please, take off your mask. You don’t always have to be Zero.”
Suzaku stepped back, his hands fisted. “I must. That is my penance.”
For what, Nunnally didn’t ask. There was too much blood on both of their hands to ask such a naïve question. In all the ways that mattered, Suzaku both was and wasn’t the boy she used to know, the kid that squabbled with her brother and took his oaths far too seriously. The one that always smiled when he met her, the one who got bitten by cats and felt too much for those he cared for. His innocence had disappeared with the soft click of a gun.
It was just as well. Nunnally both was and wasn’t the girl she used to be either, the girl who could only cry and follow her siblings. Even here, even now, she was still chasing Lelouch’s and Euphemia’s shadows. Her life wasn’t her own to live, it hadn’t been since she’d asked for the trigger to a bomb.
Too much had happened for them to go back to who they used to be.
“And what about my penance?” she asked, her eyes meeting his. “Is suffering the only way to atone?”
“No,” he replied sharply. Then, gentler, “No.”
Nunnally’s eyes stung, her throat burned. There was a secret she couldn’t share with anyone, not even Suzaku, and it was this: she hated her brother. Not once had he brought her into his plans, not once had he given her a choice in the matter. Whether it was to destroy Britannia or himself, all she could do was watch from the sidelines.
Maybe she could have saved him.
Maybe she could have died with him.
Yet, here she was, alone with feelings she couldn’t do anything about. There was no one left to yell at, no one to take her anger out on. Lelouch was dead and the dead couldn’t hear the wails of the survivors no matter how loud she was.
She refused to allow Suzaku to do the same.
“Then why must you?” she shouted, unable to rein in her anger. Her helplessness. “Lelouch told you to be Zero. That doesn’t mean you can’t be Suzaku too. At least not here.” Nunnally’s hands clenched on her wheelchair’s arms, and she bit her cheek to keep herself from crying. Her voice still broke. “At least not with me.”
“That…” Suzaku reached up to touch his mask, his fingers pressing against the left side. Nunnally could almost see the bloody fingerprints Lelouch had left behind, the last wound he had left on Suzaku. “That is not something I deserve.”
“Then what do I deserve?” Nunnally asked, her voice wobbly as she furiously blinked back her tears. “You’re not the only one who killed.”
Suzaku fell silent, unable to refute, unable to agree.
In the end, they both had their cross to bear, their ghosts to appease. Nunnally pressed a button on her wheelchair and rolled over toward him. Clasping his hand between hers, she tried again. “We both have a lot to make up for. But…this suffering. This refusal to allow ourselves to be happy—it won’t help anyone. Lelouch wouldn’t have wanted that. Euphy wouldn’t have liked that.” She squeezed his hand and whispered, “I’m tired of living with ghosts. Please don’t be one of them too.”
There was a long silence and her heart dropped. Perhaps, in the end, her words weren’t enough. She wasn’t enough. Suzaku had always taken it on himself—
Suzaku squeezed back, breaking her thoughts. “Sometimes, I think I have forgotten how to live otherwise. It is hard. But…” He reached up with his other hand and took off the mask. Nunnally hadn’t seen his face in over a year but the familiarity of it made her ache and this time she didn’t stop her tears. “I’ll try, Nunnally.”
“That’s all I wanted,” she replied softly.

Miracle - SuzaLulu Fic
Lelouch was looking forward to spending quality time alone with his boyfriend on Christmas.
Being trapped with Suzaku in a cave, as Zero, is not quite what he had in mind.
-+-
“What do you want most for Christmas? A real and selfish wish, Kururugi—none of your typical self-sacrificing nonsense.”
