Alright, ya’ll. I have a chapter. But it requires editing, and I’m going out of town this weekend. So. I’m going to do my best to get it out before I leave, but I cannot make any promises.
Whether I manage to get it out or not, I really have to thank you folk. You were so enthusiastic in your response to the last chapter—comments and absolutely stunning fanart, oh my—and that was very, very inspiring. This chapter was a struggle, but that really helped me get through it.
Thank you. ^_^ Y’all are the best.

want your favorite author to update but don’t want to be too pushy in their comment section?
here’s 5 things you can do to encourage them:
Reblog their fic link on tumblr (bonus if it’s with tags)
Bookmark the fic with a note about what you’re excited about/love in the fic
Recommend the fic to your friends or local discord channel
Draw art or create other media for the fic (as indicated by the author’s comfort level)
Leave them a comment when re-reading about the parts of the chapter/story that stood out to you the second time

"Who are you to tell me how to hold it!?"
Persian Izutsumi strikes again and I'm dragging Senshi down with her 😼
I really love the head pieces on the women in Persian miniatures of the iconic Qajar era (if someone knows what theyre called please let me know 😭) And I definitely want to keep exploring the different looks on Izutsumi

Reader Appreciation
I only have 5 fics on ao3 and 2 of them are unfinished multichapters. I don’t get that much ao3 interaction all the time especially since I’ve not updated in a couple of months due to a lack of inspiration/ motivation.
Imagine my surprise when I open my emails to see 6 ao3 emails. A person decided to read all my works, kudos them all and leave lovely comments complimenting my writing and story ideas on at least 4 of them.
Nothing like that has ever happened to me before cause I only started writing this year but this is just a little thing to remind readers that your comments and kindness are appreciated so much.
Obviously no pressure to comment on people’s works, just you reading means a lot, but this made my day and really helped me calm down as I’m nervous for my first driving lesson soon. It helped me feel really positive and even made me look at starting the next chapter of my fic today.
So thank you to readers everywhere because your little acts of kindness really matter and I’m probably gonna be riding this high for days.

Author: Hey, here's an update for [Fic 1]! Hope you like it =)
Commenter: When are you going to update [Fic 2]?

Whenever I talk about the medical neglect and ableism I've encountered as a victim of the healthcare system, there's always some cockwaffle who feels entitled to come into my inbox and make the argument of "not all doctors" while talking about how "people like them" (because it's always someone in a field of medicine who does this) are doing their best and it's really hard because so many people fake being ill to get on welfare (Yikes), but like, yeah, obviously #not all doctors, because if all doctors were negligent, bullying scum bags, I'd be dead.
But here's the thing: while I truly believe that the majority of doctors are doing their best in a system stacked against them and their patients, their presence does not negate the mass harm caused by the bad ones. And there are far more bad ones than you realize.
Fuck, John Oliver literally did a segment on this last week:
youtube
Yes, the truly bad, malicious doctors are in the minority. Most are just horrifically burned out and fighting a losing battle against a system, killing both them and their patients through a lack of funding and resources and profound overwork.
But the malicious ones do exist, and they will go out of their way to harm patients who don't kowtow to them.
I almost lost my life because when I was in my early twenties, I told a doctor I didn't think she was listening to me, and I disagreed with her assessment of my mental health (she was not a mental health doctor, and I was there for heart palpitations and chronic pain). She retaliated by putting "non-compliant" in my file.
There was also a fun little "doesn't show respect" note too that lives rent-free in my head because I know I wasn't rude. I was polite. I just didn't agree with her, and my refusal to accept her off-handed comment that "you probably have bipolar or BPD" (again, I was there for heart palpitations and chronic pain) meant I was "refusing care."
I wasn't. I just refused to be slapped with a mood/personality disorder when I was there because I kept fucking fainting when I stood up.
(Spoiler alert: it was dysautonomia)
That "non-compliant" marker followed me around for years. It followed me across an ocean and effectively ensured that any doctor I saw was going to treat me like absolute dogshit because no one wants to help Difficult Patients. It wasn't until I was so undeniably ill, literally on the brink of death, that anyone helped me.
I'm alive because of a good doctor. And all the good ones that came after him because of him.
So, I know they exist. You don't have to tell me that.
But I really fucking need you to acknowledge the bad ones and that you're part of a system with a long, long history of abusing minorities and vulnerable people. I need you to acknowledge that because it's the only way we're going to survive this godforsaken nightmare and make things better.
So yeah, #notalldoctors, but if you feel the need to say that because someone talking about being literally left to die by the medical system hurts your feelings, I'm going to have to ask you to take a step back and ask yourself if you're going into medicine for the right reasons.
Namely: do you want to help people, even the "difficult" ones?
Even the ones who might disagree with you?
Even if they're on welfare?
Even if they'll never get "better" in a way that means "cured"?
Just a thought. But hey, what do I know. I'm just someone who experienced hemolytic anemia because doctors kept telling me I was anxious and needed to exercise more 🤷‍♀️.

my chilshi marriage comic is not only about to become my most popular dungeon meshi comic, but one of my most successful art posts ever??? which first of all I'm very grateful! I'm just really shocked cause 1. gen stuff tends to do better than ship, at least for this fandom 2. I didn't think that many people liked chilshi????

Tumblr media
There are many new friends on the archive, and many are young and have only known social media, which is why I wanted to say something!
Ao3 does not have an algorithm! It isn't a social media site, it's an archive.
Posting fics on Tumblr isn't the same as posting fics on Ao3
Ao3 is like a giant virtual bookshelf, and everyone is able to add their own stories to the bookshelf, all stored with different tags and different fandoms. Works are automatically sorted by newest to oldest, but filters, looking at bookmarks, and using the search function can change that.
Certain works are not pushed to the top like social media posts. More kudos and reads don't push a single work to more viewers by some algorithm. Unless otherwise filtered, works will be at the top of the page based on how recent it was posted.
Smaller fandoms get less views, less kudos, less bookmarks, and larger fandoms get more simply because of the number of people inside the fandom.
Ao3 is a giant virtual bookshelf- there is no algorithm, and there is no man behind the shelf pushing certain books forward.
Happy reading, and if you'd like to have more people notice a fic, why not share it with them! Send a dm to a fandom friend and it might turn into one of their favorite fics!
