Writers start by learning to read.
Writers start by learning to read.Photo courtesy of Pixabay.com Writers start by learning to read. By David Joel Miller, writer, blogger, and mental health professional. Writers are usually voracious readers. One of the reasons that I had always wanted to write a book was that I had been a lifelong learner and a voracious reader. But my becoming an enthusiastic reader almost didn’t happen. I’m…

when i was a young teen i had this daydream where i would be out hiking and get attacked by some large animal. i would heroically fight off this creature, but then i would wake up in the hospital and the doctor would tell me "we couldn't save your tits. the animal just tore your tits clean off. your chest is now flat and you have these wicked scars. we're so sorry for your loss" and i would be like it's okay i understand. 😌

•some whimsical spookiness for your night (;
I often like to daydream about existing in a world much different from ours. Maybe I live in a old Victorian castle on a hill with my cat companions. I run around the castle grounds as evening falls wearing a rugged yet flowing dress. I’d spend most of my time collecting various flowers, berries and insects to inspect. Other time would be spent adventuring into the woods with the cats, watching them chase after smaller animals and listening to the wind blow. Here i’d be at peace, all of my time would be own and I’d live freely. The crows of birds would sing me to sleep as my head hits the pillow in the early hours of the morning. I’d sleep peacefully as the sun rose knowing I’d awake as it fell to once again to experience the unadulterated joy of freedom and truly existing.

I know many people need their silly little scenario time before bed to fall asleep at night, but I for one also require a decent amount of immersive-daydreaming-time immediately upon awakening to fortify my soul for the day and that's why I'm an English major.

cw: minors dni. smut. this is a repost.
a/n: i’m realizing i like clingy/bratty reader.
bakugou sighs finally and loudly, as he turns to face you.
you, who have been watching him carefully like some cursed cross between a hawk and a puppy for the past hour and a half, pouting the entire while. while he doesn’t always want to give in immediately, he can only take so much of your caprices at a time.
he’s pretended to ignore you for long enough.
“what?” he says gruffly, but he knows exactly what it is you want. attention.
you bat your eyelashes at him, and he groans as though he’s sick of you. but even if he groans, he doesn’t hesitate to put away the laptop on which he was previously furiously typing, getting ahead on the incident reports he may or may not be filling out on time, and lets you crawl into his lap.
“we haven’t-” you don’t say the magic words as you sit perched on his lap, but you mouth them then grin widely as he rolls his eyes, “- in a while, and i was thinking we could... you know...”
as you speak, you rub the short stubble on his chin with the palm of your hand, and even if he acts as though it’s not so, he melts a little bit to your touch.
perhaps he can indulge you (but really himself).
he takes your hand that caresses him in his, pulling it off the curve of his jaw, but holds it tenderly in his large, calloused hand.
“we could what?” he challenges you to say, leaning in closer as he watches your mouth move, gaze lowered and full of desire.
your lips pop with enough pause for dramatic effect as you proposition him with the simple word, “Fuck.”
bakugou’s eyes figuratively roll back in his head, but in reality he bites your lower lip, with just enough pressure to sting. you wince, and he sticks his tongue in your mouth, using his other hand to press forward on the back of your head, deepening the kiss.
“remember that you asked for this.”
his hands dip beneath your shirt and toy with a pebbled nipple. you don’t give him the satisfaction of a moan yet, but you lean onto him, so that your chin rests against his shoulder.
you whisper into his ear,
“don’t worry, i won’t forget.”

Y’all ever daydream about a story too much that you feel like you have already written it? Like just now I was looking for the 5th chapter of a fic that I have only written the prologue of. Like, how is it even possible?
Side note: I was indeed very bummed out that the fic has not, in fact, written itself overnight.

My Career as an Illiterate Child
Fuzzy Blackboard – Does This Make Sense?Photo courtesy of Pixabay.com My Career as an Illiterate Child By David Joel Miller, writer, blogger, and mental health professional. My family told me I wasn’t very smart. When I started writing this series of blog posts about my writing journey and how I became a published author, I decided I needed to say a little about my early educational experiences.…

I got this thing I call 'lucid daydreaming', and it's kind of a lucid dream except that you document everything that happens, and you're awake. I picked this up after I recovered from maladaptive daydreaming, and it feels very good because not only am I writing things and moving the 'plot' forward, in documenting the dream as it happens I also prevent it from going in circles, as what usually happens! What do you think?
I've heard of lucid daydreaming, though never more than "heard of"; if it's something that helps your writing, more power to you!
*****
Most writers will allow that the mental process of creating characters, story and environment is a kind of daydreaming, though whether it qualifies as "lucid" is up to them.
For me it looks a lot like staring into space with my mouth open followed by bursts of scribbling or typing.
While @dduane knows what that means, in the early, early days when my writing was spare-time to "A Real Job", it took ages for my Mum to recognise the non-scribbling / non-typing part as something not to be interrupted.
Until that recognition it often meant: "Oh good, you're not writing, could you go for the groceries / fetch some coal / help bring in the laundry", etcetera, etcetera.
Then she would bustle off again, unaware of the house of cards collapsing in her wake...

dreaming about a fic about the fae concept of "the wild hunt" in which the prize that awaits the winner of the hunt... the gift to kill the baby prince of the kingdom that had been plaguing briar valley for centuries.... silver doesn't understand why his father has kept him from the hunt for so many years or why lilia has won at any cost for the past 17 hunts.... thinking about him being cruelly allowed to join as a gift on his eighteenth birthday.... thinking about lilia finding him in the midst of the hunt, his father in his most feral fae state, claws at his throat...... twirls hair and sighs about this during my nail appt
