How to Improve the User Experience on an E-Commerce Site
Tumblr media
Creating a world-class user experience for visitors to your e-commerce site is not just a luxury in the modern digital age of rising online shopping, it is also a need. Your ability to comprehend your audience and successfully optimize your website will determine the success of your e-commerce business. Using phrases like website traffic analysis, e-commerce software, and e-commerce marketing services, we'll discuss five critical techniques in this blog post to improve the user experience on your e-commerce site.
Know your client
Understanding your target demographic in-depth is one of the key aspects in optimising the user experience on your e-commerce site. An essential tool in this case is website traffic analysis. Use analytics to learn more about the demographics, behaviour, and preferences of your visitors. You may efficiently modify your website using this information to fit their demands. It's about giving your users a tailored experience that they enjoy. The sales and total conversion rate from the website will be very low if it is not tailored to the preferences and interests of the target audience. Be careful to take into account the particular requirements of your clients.

The goal of Fandom Friday: provide a place where people can shout-out their favorite creators from the week, whether it’s a piece of fan art that made you smile or a fanfic that moved you. Drop a link to your favorite creations this week into my ask box along with what you loved about it, and I will give them a shout! It doesn’t have to be Star Wars either! If it’s on another website (AO3, Twitter, etc.), please be sure to state that as well.
This happens each week, so don’t feel like you’ve got to get out everything in one week. Just keep track of them throughout the week or send me an ask whenever you find something, and I’ll drop them all on Fridays (or throughout the weekend if I get a lot). The cutoff for each week is THURSDAY 12 PM (I’m in the Pacific timezone). Anything received after that will roll to the next week. A summary of the weeks’ recs will be posted at the end of the weekly queue, so check back here for all of the awesome fics and art! And be sure to go give the creations on that list some love (and don’t just share the ask responses I put out).
2024 Fandom Friday Weekly Summary Master List
Rules and additional details under the cut! PLEASE make sure you read the rules before sending something in. If your submission violates any of the rules, I will delete it.
Rules:
Please send submissions to my ask box (sending them all to one place makes wrangling them easier each week). In your ask, please include the creator’s handle, a link to their work/post (if links aren’t working for the ask, please DM me them), and what you loved about it!
Please ensure the link is to the creator’s original post and not your own reblog or repost of their work (if they’re on another platform). The idea is to drive people to visit the creator’s page!
The creation does not have to have been posted this week! It can be something older. Also, don’t worry about whether or not a rec is a repeat from a prior week. Just looking to celebrate things that made an impression on you this week, whether you’ve seen it before or not!
NSFW is alright! Just make sure you note it in the ask so I can flag appropriately! Since I’m including 18+ material, minors may not participate. 18+ posts will be tagged with NSFT/lemon/lemony lemon (trying to cover all my bases).
NO incest, underage, cl*necest blogs, master/padawan (or similar power dynamics), dub-con/non-con/rape occurring IN the fic (to include stalker/obsessive behavior fics). Also, no H*rry Potter. There are a few others that I also won’t share due to my discomfort with them (i.e., R*xsoka), so if you’re not sure, ask. Also, many of you submit multiple works at once, and that’s fine, but if one of those works contains something that violates the rules, I will delete the entire ask, so something to be extra careful about when submitting!
Submissions that deal with 18+ material or difficult/triggering topics (pregnancy, abuse, drug use, etc.) MUST BE TAGGED APPROPRIATELY.
If your rec involves spoilers from a show that’s currently running, please include that info in the ask so I can tag it appropriately (I will normally tag a few different ways, but I always use #<show title> spoilers if you need to filter (for example: Andor spoilers will be tagged #Andor Spoilers). I will stop tagging spoilers two weeks after the show stops airing.
You can submit GIF sets or edits, but please ensure you are submitting from the blog that actually created them. Wanted to add that caution since there’s been a lot of people stealing/reposting GIFs and edits in particular recently. So just be cautious.
Try to avoid commentary in your ask that might make others feel bad (“the only person who knows how to write XXX correctly…”). It’s important to be able to appreciate creators without making others feel bad, so let’s try to keep the commentary complimentary without being off-putting for other creators.
Self recommendations are allowed and encouraged! Shout out your own hard work! You deserve the recognition!
*Rules subject to change so PLEASE make sure you read them before sending something in. If your submission violates any of the rules, I will delete it.
**If you have any questions about any of the rules, don’t hesitate to DM me!In addition to sending me asks, I highly encourage you to go either leave a comment on and/or reblog someone’s work (tag me or use the #Fandom Friday tag if you do!). Let’s get the interaction back up on this website and show the creators that work so hard on their stuff some love!

its hard to formulate how i feel about all of this so ill just. Tell it how it is
i was raised in a very unstable household as a very unusual child, my first interest Ever was fnaf for some perspective. i had unlimited internet access because Well my parents were too busy arguing and my mom was too doped out on her medication to check on things like that. when i was maybe around 8ish or whatever (i have no recollection of my earlier life for. Apparent reasons) i had discovered sparklecare after finding the comics website through some animation meme nonsense. i know i was absolutely not the targeted age demographic but it felt safe, it didn't feel double sided or wrong like all that other shit i wasn't allowed to watch (But did anyways), in a way sparklecare steered me clear of more dangerous places on the internet because i had become infatuated. i would sit in my closet and read the updates on my moms ipad mini.
i had followed the comic ever since. it really fundamentally shaped my art and aesthetics to this day. everything i have now is bathed in multicolor, checkers, patterns, and a never ending assortment of ocs because of sparklecare. hell, in every story i make theres always some sort of hospital present because of this. it pushed me to draw, to make my own ocs about my own issues, it was the main driving force for a lot of things, one of the most influential things for me
i fell off a bit from reading sparklecare around 2019ish because i had too much going on life wise and i was in Not so safe spaces again, dealing with the years of bullying on my track not only for how i spoke or where i was from but also the things i liked, entering an immensely unhealthy online relationship as the pandemic hit, the works. i picked sparklecare back up again eventually and it felt like home, something i used to indulge in before i moved countries, before it got worse, etc. it jumpstarted my personality i had before i went through everything, but with a new light.
even at the time sparklecare would've been regarded something more on the immature and even "cringe" compared to my other interests, how the reboot had significantly fluffed things up compared to the preboot. i now realize this was probably because kc was slowly and slowly twisting into her own echochamber and i didn't see it because i was like 13 i wasn't gonna tell this grown woman what to do with her comic.
i kept reading everything, every Monday and Wednesday morning i would wait diligently while i was at school. it had shaped everything id done, and it was one of those things i could never throw away. this tripled with the creation of cometcare, i was infatuated with the whole branching family dynamics i had in my own ocs for the longest time, and inspired me to make my own, to be looser with my art and ocs. sparklecare was the last interest i had expected to turn rotten, it was so sickingly sweet and placating to everything.
then im sure as you can imagine the whole exposee went off a month or two ago (i really cant even tell how long its been) and ive been in a whirlwind of emotions whenever i think about sparklecare since. everything had a double meaning. everything was made with sinister intentions, 16 year old me was unknowingly playing into this grown womans fetishes and there was nothing i could've done to know. it still revolts me. i had done nothing but love and appreciate this comic, despite all its flaws, despite the dogshit art quality now, the crammed in headcanons, the spiraling family tree, etc. now i was just one of the many many people she had fetish mined for something so, so disgusting, and depraved, that she convinces herself is okay. with the same words she used to comfort the victims of so many injustices including myself, she span them in a way to justify her abuse of others.
i understand shes been through things. she's grown. shes been "coping" for years on end and has only gotten worse. she has a therapist. her so called "therapist" clearly doesn't exist or is some douche from craigslist thats part of some underground ring and is trying to rope her in.
its sickening to see the characters i so lovingly become part of my identity, plastered them everywhere, drew them, wrote about them, gushed about them, CARED about them, now be played in some weird sick incest fantasy on that disgusting blog. it feels like they've been gutted alive and are being puppeted by somebody else and i can't do anything but watch. i feel like im in the fucking comic myself and cuddles is making me watch some helplessly edgy shit like that meat puppet nonsense.
but i also used to have a sense of care for kittycorn too because so much of this art was about her, made by her, driven by her. she's so diligent and careful about the image she shows publicly. it was all calculated, it's impossible to say it wasn't. all the kind asks i sent in her inbox, not knowing i was speaking to someone so abhorrent. she knew. she knows, she can't keep it up forever.
It's been tough watching as this perversion encroaches on so much that i loved, never seeing it coming, not knowing i was a PART of it. not knowing for how long.
it is so evil to make a community based on a whole comic about being traumatized and oppressed by abusers, just for it to deliberately be some kind of underground abuse scheme under everyones noses. and it was intentional. she wanted to lure the vulnerable in. she wanted to hurt everybody because in her eyes its right. its coping. its whatever. shes never wrong.
it hurts, and i dont know what to feel about it. i dont know where to place my emotions, i dont know what to do, and i dont know where to go. i carry on with life anyways, because at the end of the day it was just a comic i read when i was young, but it stings.
all i will do, is wish the best for every single last victim of this mongrel, keep up with them, and take back from this comic, which the community only gave and gave and gave to it. she does not get to run away with all of it. i hope everyones staying safe and i love all of the anti sparklecare bunches.
kittygroomercorn and her menagerie of scum will see an end, whether they like or not, and i wish nothing but to the worst to the likes of them, you're never getting away with this, and i hope you're aware of that. eat shit and die kc.
ill be posting my redesigns possibly whatevrvr

Welcome to Ever Rain, an upcoming discord based WC inspired roleplay server, where we follow the lives and legacies of five Clans that inhabit the uppermost temperate rainforests of North America.
Ever Rain is a partial sandbox roleplay, encouraging members to create their own plotlines that have effects on the world around them, while maintaining story arcs in the background that add depth and shape to the world of Ever Rain that players can interact with, fully being able to immerse themselves.
What Does Ever Rain Offer:
A welcoming and comfortable environment for all. Ever Rain is LGBTQ and Native run, and takes great measures to ensure the safety and comfort of its member base.
A partial open world setting that allows for primarily character and player driven plots to take the stage, complimented by an overarching story arc that will allow players to further interact with the world as it changes.
An 18+ (SFW) environment. There will likely be a two months grace period for those about to turn 18, however this will be monitored very closely to ensure the safety and comfort of everyone involved.
Flexible but realistic character creation with the option to fully utilize real cat genetics for kit litters.
Flexible and relaxed activity requirements.
Relaxed Application process that does not require you to have a fully realized character to join (sans HR Applications when they open), nor expects you to be perfect in your writing.
A literate server that requires at least five lines of writing per post.
QOTD both for you and your characters!
Daily and Weekly optional prompts that relate to any current story arc that can be the basis for threads, solo writing, or art.
Dynamic Clans with their own history, beliefs and cultures as they have grown to adapt to their environments.
Clan events and server wide events such as festivals that allow for more inter Clan interactions outside of Gatherings!
Generalized weather and Clan unique news that change at the start of each week.
And more!

Blog Post #6 - Week 8 (due 3/13)
Feminism, Technology, and Gender Dynamics in Digital Media and Beyond
How does Haraway’s concept of the cyborg challenge traditional boundaries between human and machine, and what implications does this have for feminist theory?
Haraway’s concept of the cyborg fundamentally challenges the binary distinctions between human and machine, nature and culture. She asserts that the cyborg is a “hybrid of machine and organism” that resists traditional dualisms (Haraway, 1991, p. 354). By rejecting essentialist notions of identity, Haraway prompts a post-gender world that transcends rigid categorizations. This perspective reshapes feminist theory by emphasizing fluidity and intersectionality, as opposed to fixed identities. Through this lens, feminist politics can become more inclusive, embracing diversity and multiplicity rather than reinforcing exclusionary practices rooted in biological determinism.
In what ways does Haraway use the metaphor of the cyborg to critique capitalism and patriarchy, and how does this critique relate to socialist-feminism?
Haraway employs the cyborg metaphor to critique capitalism and patriarchy by illustrating how technology and science are entangled with capitalist production and patriarchal control. She quotes, “It is oppositional, utopian, and completely without innocence” (Haraway, 1991, p. 354). She critiques the way science and technology serve capitalist interests, creating fragmented identities that perpetuate oppression. However, the cyborg also symbolizes resistance and transformation, embodying the potential to subvert these power structures. Socialist-feminism benefits from this critique by adopting the cyborg as a figure of coalition and solidarity, advocating for collective action that transcends identity boundaries. Haraway envisions a politics that is not about purity but about coalition and transformation.
How does the digital era transform the role and participation of women in white supremacist movements compared to the print-only era, and what does this shift indicate about gender dynamics within these movements?
The digital era has transformed women’s participation in white supremacist movements by providing them with more open and interactive platforms, like Stormfront.org, where they actively contribute to discourse. Unlike the print-only era, where men held dominant roles and women played more symbolic or supportive functions, women now have designated spaces to express their ideologies. Daniels (2009) notes that “white supremacy in the digital era… offers more openness and dissent within white supremacist discourse” (p. 62). This shift highlights an evolving gender dynamic that simultaneously maintains male dominance while giving women a more pronounced voice.
What are the implications of white supremacist websites creating “ladies-only” forums on the perception of gender roles within these movements?
The creation of “ladies-only” forums on white supremacist websites like Stormfront.org reveals a contradiction between promoting male dominance and acknowledging women’s increasing involvement. These spaces reflect both an attempt to preserve traditional gender roles and an acknowledgment of women as active participants. Daniels (2009) asserts that these forums “illustrate both the growing engagement of women in white supremacy and… the male dominance that is central to both” (p. 62). Thus, the forums both challenge and reinforce traditional gender norms, reflecting tension between maintaining patriarchal authority and integrating women’s participation.
How does the representation of femininity in digital media, like Ananova, reflect cultural and technological ideologies?
The representation of femininity in digital media, such as Ananova, reflects both cultural and technological ideologies. Ananova, designed as a friendly and attractive female figure, exemplifies how technology can be gendered, often reinforcing traditional gender roles. These simulations are often crafted to appeal to masculine ideals, positioning the female body as both desirable and “natural” within digital spaces. As O’Riordan notes, these digital personae “personalize the impersonal” technology, creating an emotional and psychological connection with users (O’Riordan, 2000, p. 245). Such figures signify the blending of femininity with technology in ways that reinforce societal norms and cultural expectations.

Mary/Maryam's Gender
Very different from many Islamofascist discourses and even discourses of modern remnants of Muslim traditionalism, both the Quran and classical Islamic philosophy and theosophy hold that gender is something quite dynamic. Genders are not different by essence but are ontologically and teleologically related due to their common root in a unity of being.
“O mankind, be aware of your Caretaker who has created you from one single self and He created from it its mate and sent forth from it many men and women; and be aware of Allah whom you ask about, and the relatives. Allah is watcher over you.” (Quran 4:1)
“Your creation and your resurrection is as one single self, truly Allah is He Who hears and sees.” (Quran 31:28)
Gender is in the Quran seen as a manifestation of a primordial “duality in unity”, similar to the Chinese idea of Yin/Yang, but just like the Chinese idea of Yin and Yang we can not reduce this primordial duality to simple material entities.
“It exists within every fraction of creation, even within our own selves. And of everything we have created pairs, so that you may contemplate.” (Quran 51:49)
It by far transcends any biologisms and it is itself transcended by the final unity of being. In classical Quranic exegesis it is Maryam (Mary, the mother of Jesus) who is most often seen as the person whose life expresses this principle in the best way. I´d like to cite some quranic verses, a wellknown and wellrespected Sunni tafsÎr (exegesis) and the quote of a wellknown Sufi writer with regards to this.
When the woman from the house of Imran said: “My Caretaker, I have vowed to You what is in my womb, dedicated, so accept from me, You are the Hearer, the Knower.”
So when she delivered she said: “My Caretaker, I have delivered a female,” but Allah knew well of what she delivered, for the male is not like the female. “and I have named her Maryam, and I seek refuge for her and her progeny with You from the outcast devil.”
So her Caretaker accepted her a good acceptance, and made her grow into a good growth, and charged Zachariah with her. Every time Zachariah entered upon her in the temple enclosure, he found provisions with her. He said: “O Maryam, from where did you get this?” She said: “It is from Allah, Allah provides for whom He wishes without reckoning.” (Quran 3:35-37)
And the angels said: “O Maryam, Allah has chosen you and cleansed you, and He has chosen you above the women of the worlds.”
“O Maryam, be dutiful to your Caretaker and prostrate and kneel with those who kneel.” (Quran 3:42-43)
Next, a longing for a male child arose in her heart. Thus her imagination, firm resolution and expectation exercised an influence upon the fetus. Consequently, Maryam was born blessed with a virile disposition.[…] Maryam was a woman with the qualities of a man, as there are also men with an effeminate nature. This because by nature she looked out for Allah and centred all hopes in Him.
– From the Tawîl al Ahadîth of Shah Waliullah Dehlavi (1703-1762 CE)
“When tomorrow on the Day of Resurrection the call goes up, ‘O men!’, the first person to step into the ranks of men will be the virgin Maryam.”
– From the Tadhkirat al Awliyâ of Fariduddin Attar (ca. 1145-1221 CE)

A lil rant
I'm gonna just put this out there but I think I'm like the only person on this website that doesn't really like au's.
Like I'll read them if I really enjoy a certain author but part of the reason I love these characters is because of the environment they're in and the experiences they've lived. Those experiences shape the characters. Once their background and environment is removed or drastically altered, they just aren't the same people. Canonverse is really the only thing that makes sense for me.
Don't get me wrong - I like seeing au artwork, but I'm not going to be the girl reading that 15k destiel coffeeshop au. How can Dean and Cas have the same profound bond without the experiences they battled through together? How can I imagine Dean as this silly college student or Cas as a librarian when so much of their uniqueness is based on the supernatural world they live in. How can I find a florist Cas believable when the Cas I know is an angel who lived through the creation of earth?
The only aus I've found that I've truly enjoyed have been when they are slight canon divergents. Like in some Suits fics, Harvey is still a lawyer but instead of meeting Mike like in canon, Harvey accidentally runs him over in his car, or Mike actually went to Harvard, or Harvey hires him as a consultant for something or another. These all take place in the canonverse, yet there's only a slight wrench thrown into things. The character dynamics are the same, the world is the same, everything is the same except for this one little thing.
So yeah I know I'm rambling but I just keep seeing so many au's popping up and being recommended to me and it's getting hard to find canonverse things for most of the fandoms I read in. It just kinda annoys me and I just needed to write it down.

Not separating the art from the artist
July 29, 2024
When the news about the allegations against Neil Gaiman broke at the beginning of July, I was shocked. In this text, I’ll write some thoughts about this. I’ll put links down below, in the footnotes.
I listened to the podcast that broke the news (1), all four episodes. I later read a bit about it on Reddit (2) and listened to an extensive video (YouTube channel Council of Geeks, footnote 3).
Then I read that another woman had come forward, talking about her experiences with Gaiman ten years ago, in another podcast (4). I also read about rumours how questionable behaviour of Gaiman towards young female fans has been a thing for decades.
And he has admitted to some of what one of these women, Scarlett, has said – having a consensual relationship with her.
Well, even if the relationship (and other similar ones) has been completely consensual - which I doubt after listening to Scarlett’s experiences and what the other two women said - there still is a strange power dynamic at play: A wealthy, privileged older man and at least three young, inexperienced women, two of them fans who likely were to some extend starstruck by the attention he gave them. And Scarlett was employed as the nanny of his child.
In my eyes, this kind of power dynamic in a relationship is unethical, especially given all the details in those podcast episodes.
Why am I writing about this here? I have a hard time with „separating the art from the artist“. Some time ago, I have written a blog in German why. (5) I used to be a fan of the Sandman series and the Good Omens series. I also like the Dead Boy Detectives series and I watched and read American Gods.
I think the connection between the Dead Boy Detectives Netflix series and Neil Gaiman is not that strong, because while he has written a part of one episode as far as I heard and has created the characters for the Comic books, he wasn’t that much involved in the creation of the Netflix series. They also changed the two main characters quite a bit, as far as I know, for instance making them older.
When it comes to Good Omes, Gaiman was heavily involved in creating the series. I used to love it. I wrote an alternative universe fanfiction about it, I created some fan artworks and two cosplays. I also bought some fan artwork and hung it on my wall. I also love how Michael Sheen and David Tennant portray the main characters. However, after these news about Gaiman, „Good Omens“ feels … tainted to me. I lost my enthusiasm about the show. I have to admit about season three that I was mainly interested in a happy ending for Aziraphale and Crowley, preferably a romantic one. At this point, I do not much care for the rest of the plot. So far, there haven’t been any news that season three gets cancelled because of this controversy. So we’ll have to wait how that goes on.
But there is more, and here is where it sort of gets a bit more personal. „Good Omens“ inspired an urban fantasy novel I wrote last year and want to publish next year. I even wrote an acknowledgment in the book thanking Neil Gaiman for the inspiration, but I have deleted that now. I have written that acknowledgment also this June in a question to Neil Gaiman here on Tumblr, but I now hope that he never sees or answers it.
As for Sandman, I am not sure anymore if I want to watch the second season which is said to come out some time in 2025.
I have never bought books or comics of Neil Gaiman, except for an e-book of „American Gods“ and a print copy of "Good Omens" which I both bought last year. But I have deleted the e-book some days ago. I used to read some of his books from our local library, back in the early 2000s.
I am going to keep my copy of „Good Omens“, because at least half of it was written by Terry Pratchett. And so far, I haven’t heard about any controversies about that author.
I would like to close this blog with a German article from a SFF website why we shouldn’t put famous popular authors on pedestals: https://www.tor-online.de/magazin/mehr-phantastik/neil-gaiman-und-co-wir-muessen-aufhoeren-menschen-auf-ein-podest-zu-stellen

Benefits of Social Media Advertising and its Trends
Tumblr media
It's essential for organizations, especially those in the IT and software sectors, to stay ahead of the curve in today's fast-paced digital world where technology and customer behavior are always developing. Through good social media management and social media advertising, you may contact and interact with your target audience in one of the most efficient ways possible. Let's examine the many benefits of social media advertising and the newest trends that may make your software or IT business successful in the digital era.
Improve brand awareness through social media advertising

。+*✧ 10 Red Flags That Signal a Mystical Charlatan ✧*+。
Tumblr media
This is an article from my website, The Witchy Housewife. You can read it at the source here or look under the cut to read it here on Tumblr. If you enjoy my work, please consider subscribing (at the bottom of this page) to receive articles as they're posted via e-mail, exploring the shop, leaving a tip, or reblogging this post. I run this all myself, so all support is greatly appreciated. 💜🔮✨
As I have begun reworking the intuitive services available in my shop, I’ve found myself contemplating the current state of our culture and economy and the heightened sense of desperation these things can induce. While I firmly believe that, given the system we currently live within, those with a passion for the metaphysical should be able to make a living by assisting others through various mystical services, it is imperative that those of us who do provide these services acknowledge the presence of con artists and charlatans in our midst who seek to take advantage of the emotionally or financially vulnerable. Today, I’ll be discussing some of the potential warning signs that are good to keep in mind when seeking spiritual services, whether they be divination work, energy work, or any other form of spiritual assistance you may encounter.
1. Claims of Exclusive Abilities
If a prospective spiritual service provider insists that they possess some sort of unique, one-of-a-kind ability that cannot be found anywhere else on the planet, it is likely they are a con artist at worst or lying as a marketing gimmick at best. While, in some cases, such claims may be related to a system of working that is truly of their own creation, there are always routes to be taken by others that have the ability to yield similar results. In truth, as with any skill, mystical abilities can be mastered by anyone willing to put in the time, effort, and dedication, including those who may not have been blessed with “natural-born” inclinations.
Certainly, those who have put in such work prior to offering mystical services may show better focus or discernment when delivering results and interpretations when compared to those who have begun offering services with little prior experience, but the tools available to achieve the former are not unavailable to the latter by any means. In fact, for those interested in delving into the world of divination and magick, I offer comprehensive articles packed with free, fundamental information for anyone at any level here on this very website. Everything that a spiritual service provider can do for you, you can do for yourself, and the choice to hire someone else is one that should be one of convenience rather than desperation.
2. Claims of Superior Abilities
While I will reiterate that a more experienced and well-studied spiritual service provider will likely show evidence of stronger focus or discernment in the results they yield, the need for them to put others down in their various interactions and marketing material should be obsolete. The ability of a good service provider should speak for itself without the need for name dropping and muckraking. This is another red flag which strikes me as scam-bait at word and sleazy marketing tactics at best.
Further, claims of exclusivity or superiority have the potential to create a dynamic of inauthentic dependency. Rather than returning to a service provider because you find them to be reliable and helpful for your particular needs, you risk being hooked onto false claims which prevent you from seeking out other providers who may work better with you, and as with the previous red flag, you also run the risk of developing a subconscious complex of inferiority which hinders you from developing your own abilities.
3. Fearmongering About Curses
Throughout my extensive journey in the realms of spirituality and magick, I’ve found curses to be an exceedingly rare occurrence. Even for those who associate with the more unsavory occult crowds, the individuals who dwell within them tend to lack the necessary depth of knowledge and practice, courtesy of an ego-driven approach, to produce meaningful enough results to cause you any substantial issues that a quick cleanse won’t cure. Such is the case, as well, for inadvertently directed negative energy by non-practitioners, which can deliver rather unpleasant results but can ultimately also be solved by a quick cleanse.
Regardless of the “level” a curse may be at, however, it is worth noting that these things can be cleansed, banished, and/or mitigated by anyone who takes the time to familiarize themselves with the appropriate techniques. If a prospective spiritual service provider tells you that you have a curse that only they are capable of removing – or, in the same vein, if you have any sort of spiritual haunting or attachment going on that they claim only they can remove – they are attempting to deceive you. More than likely, there is no curse or entity or energy plaguing you, and they are simply saying so to hook you into another payment. Even if someone does legitimately provide cleansing, banishing, healing, or protection services, a good one will never force you into that service through fear, and a better one will always assure you that you are entirely capable of handling it yourself if you are unable to or simply do not want to outsource the work.
An unfortunate possibility that should be mentioned here, however, is that feelings of negativity, especially when paired with a newfound awareness and acknowledgement of other realms, can sometimes attract unsavory energies and entities who feed on or thrive in such emotions. Horror and despair are especially powerful at drawing such attention. As such, it is a good idea for anyone seeking out spiritual services for hire to at least familiarize themselves with cleansing, banishing, and protective techniques that feel appropriate for and compatible with them. I feel that my article, The Basics of Spiritual Safety & Wellbeing, is a very important one for anyone dipping their toes into such explorations. I would also like to note that I am available within my office hours to offer guidance to those who feel they need it, so if you have come across this article after a negative experience with a spiritual service provider which has drawn any unsavory presences into your midst, feel free to contact me here and I will be happy to advise you where I am able.
4. Threats at Any Level
On the topic of fear, if a spiritual service provider has threatened you in any capacity, whether it pertains to threats of curses or harmful spirits or threats against your mental or physical wellbeing, they are most definitely not someone you want to continue working with, nor should you keep open any methods of contact. Keep a paper trail of such threats to the best of your ability to report them to their web host or to the customer service of the platform they are selling their services on, and in the case of a physical threat, to report them to the proper authorities. Beyond this, block them from continued contact wherever you are able.
Unfortunately, in the digital age we live in, most services are online, and the internet is very much still in this sort of murky, weird territory when it comes to law enforcement. Speaking from experience, I urge anyone with an online presence to be very careful with how much personal information is shared online, and it is also a very good idea to search yourself on Google in order to request the removal of your personal information on places like Whitepages if you’ve ever used your real name online. We seem to have gone from the era of “stranger danger” right into an era of no fear at all regarding the sharing of identities online. This is no less dangerous than taking out a physical billboard with that same information.
Returning to the topic at hand, however, if a prospective service provider is threatening to curse you in return for an unwillingness to hand over money, they are no different than those I mentioned previously who lack the sufficient expertise to do such a thing. More than likely, these types of people are practitioners at all. The worst they can do, in both of these cases, is direct a bit of negative energy your way, which, as I also mentioned previously, is an issue easily resolved with a simple cleansing.
5. Claims of All-Knowing Abilities
While this is particularly relevant for divination-based services, it’s still necessary to note in this article: If your prospective spiritual service provider makes grandiose claims of possessing any sort of all-knowing, 100% accurate ability, they are being fraudulent. Even the most highly skilled among us, while having the capability to give accurate and highly beneficial information in most cases, will still make the occasional mistakes of misinterpretation or a slight unsteadiness in focus. As is currently theorized based on the multitude of practitioner experiences which confirm it, the subconscious has a habit of communicating via symbolic gesture, emotional appeals, and vague notions.
This is why, when seeking a divination service, providing as much information about your situation as you are comfortable with is crucial to a thorough and relevant interpretation. The more context you give to a cartomancer, astrologer, or medium, the more context they can focus on when requesting information via other realms. This is also why many of those who offer blind readers as a viable option will make use of personally crafted proprietary spreads, as this allows them to put some degree of context where there is none. The tower card in tarot, for example, can be interpreted in various ways depending on the circumstance it is applied to, and an interpretation that makes little sense to you cannot necessarily be credited to the ability of a reader you have given little information to.
Further, I have found in my experiences and the experiences of many others that our futures are quite malleable. Magick done by a practitioner can influence a particular outcome, but it does not completely eliminate the many other factors that also bear influence. Divination done by a reader can reveal to us one or more potential outcomes of a situation or give us a peek of the path we are currently on, but it is up to us to take this knowledge and utilize it to either follow the same path or take a new one. If the world of metaphysics was set in stone like the physical experience, it would be much easier to observe and repeat in a scientific context, which is not the case at this time.
6. Dubious Pricing Practices
Market-conscious and economically-considerate pricing is a key aspect of any service, and it’s equally important to exercise caution when hiring spiriting service providers as it is when hiring any other service provider. Prices that are too high raise concerns of deceit, while prices that are too low raise concerns of unpracticed ability. It is worth noting, however, that unstable pricing does not necessarily reflect malicious intentions. Speaking as someone who offers freelance service in a number of sectors, it can be difficult at times to know what your ideal price range should be while taking into account the monetary value of the time and effort a project will take you, the state of the economy and the effect on the average person’s spending ability, and the reflection and impact the pricing of a new service will have on the rest of the industry who are all in the exact same boat as one another. So, I will once again reiterate that, when you hire someone for a spiritual service, you are paying for the convenience of not having to put forth your own time and effort to achieve a similar result. Some things, like a one to three card tarot reading, may be a couple dollars, while others, like a thoroughly written astrological report or a time-consuming ritual, may be a couple hundred because it takes far more time for one to complete with the amount of energy such a service calls for.
Ultimately, it is not really up to you to determine what someone “should” be charging for their services, but if something does truly seem outrageous to you, consider reaching out to the spiritual service provider to ask for more information about their service. If you find that it is something that it worthwhile but is out of your budget, ask about potential payment plans or if they offer any more affordable services. If all things fall through or if you simply don’t have a good feeling about the provider, seek others who provide similar services.
7. Cliffhangers & Other Vagueness
While taking into consideration that the less information you provide a reader, the vaguer of a response you are likely to receive, there is a time when it can cross into the realm of a predatory practice or simple inexperience. In the case of a tarot reading, for example, if all information you are given is a copy-and-paste of what can be found on a website like Biddy Tarot (an excellent tarot resource, by the way), it’s possible that your reader developed only a surface-level understanding of tarot before deciding to enter the field. This is not inherently malicious or deceitful, but it does cause its own set of issues in that it can be a waste of money for those who are expecting services with depth, it can spread the potential client pool more thin for those who have put in the time and effort to hone their craft, and it can further muddy the already-skewed public perception of those who study, practice, and/or sell these services.
On the other hand, if a spiritual service provider is telling you that there is something you need to know or do that they cannot share with you until you purchase another service (or an initial service, in the case of those who may reach out to you first, which we’ll discuss more later on in this article), they are most likely appealing to your curiosity to lure you into giving them more money. Now, this does not refer to providers who may tell you, “You are asking me to do something that is not part of the description of this service. Please purchase another service if you would like me to do the additional work you are asking me to tack onto the service I have just done for you,” in response to you having asked for something more than they’ve given you. Requesting that someone do additional work for you for free is, quite plainly, taking advantage of someone. This warning is reserved only for those who are bringing up “concerns” of their own volition without giving any detail whatsoever as a deceptive marketing gimmick.
8. More Money, Same Service
Similarly, if a spiritual service provider has not provided you with the full extent of what they have promised in their service description but instead stops short to ask for more money, they are, without a doubt, a con artist. Commonly, this is seen in ritual or energy work services wherein the scammer will tell the scamee that they suddenly require more energy for their working than they initially thought, and so it is “necessary” for the scamee to send more money for the service to be fulfilled. This should never be the case. Anything beyond what is listed in the description of a service is a separate service or a favor, but a service must include everything that is listed in the description once it is paid for.
This is why it is crucial as a spiritual service provider to comb through our service description with strict attention to detail and an enhanced awareness for how our words could potentially be misinterpreted. Sometimes things may slip through the cracks, and other times there may be customers who are intentionally misinterpreting things to take advantage of us, but we should attempt to mitigate these potential situations to the best of our ability before such a thing happens.
Please note that this red flag does not apply to service providers simply adjusting their pricing overall. If a service you’ve paid for once before is more or less expensive the next time you return to it, this is more than likely a simple reflection of a shifting market.
9. Love, Light, & Yes Men
While it is more than normal to receive positive news and validating information from a spiritual service provider, if it is the case that you are always being told exactly what you want to hear – and especially if your experiences outside of the service don’t necessarily reflect what you are hearing – it is likely that the provider is carefully choosing their words and/or glossing over potentially crucial information in order to keep you coming back as a recurring customer. Not every working goes as planned, and not every reading is pleasant to hear. A good reader is an honest one, and at times, that may lead to receiving information that makes us uncomfortable, angry, or otherwise upset. As a client, it is important to approach any potential spiritual services with a desire for truth and an understanding that the truth is not always in alignment with our desires.
10. The Opportunistic Approach
In today’s digital landscape which is plagued by ever-transient algorithms that seem to always favor corporations, clickbait, and marketing threads written with that distinct belittling for-profit pacing, advertising can be challenging. Authenticity often comes at the sacrifice of optimized search engine results and oppressive levels of visibility on social media. This is something I am intimately familiar with, as when I had first started this blog, I attempted to reconcile my unique voice and desire to be thorough with the need to be keyword-conscious in order to please the technocrats who determine which ventures are most profitable and, therefore, most worthy of circulation. I ultimately decided, however, that my authenticity was more important than my visibility, and my visitor count has taken a hit as a result.
With this decision in mind, this leads one to seek out more creative methods of promoting their goods and services. Those looking to get their work seen may then seek out and follow/interact with users who share relevant content, may host giveaways in exchange for assistance with internet visibility, may regularly post about the goods or services they offer alongside the other content they may share, and/or may mention their goods or services in passing when pertinent to the discussion at hand.
When it becomes worthy of an eyebrow raise, however, is when you are approached either entirely at random or at a time when you have expressed some sort of desperation publicly and the appeal used to market to you is an emotional one. If, for example, you’ve recently posted something on social media about your troubles with love or money and you suddenly find your inbox filled with WhatsApp numbers and promises of infallible rituals cast by powerful spellcasters who can solve all your worldly problems, you are being propositioned for a fairly common scam.

NEW WEEK, NEW RECS! START SENDING YOUR FAVORITE FANDOM CREATIONS FROM THIS WEEK IN FOR ME TO QUEUE UP FOR FRIDAY!
You may submit for this week until THURSDAY MORNING (I’m in the Pacific timezone). Anything received after that will roll to the next week. A summary of the weeks’ recs will get added onto this post on Saturday, so check back here for all of the awesome fics and art! And be sure to go give the creations on that list some love (and don’t just share the ask responses I put out).
This week’s submissions will start posting on Friday, October 6 13.
NO incest, underage, cl*necest, master/padawan (or similar power dynamics), dub-con/non-con/rape.
If your rec involves spoilers from a show that’s currently running, please include that info in the ask so I can tag it appropriately (I will normally tag a few different ways, but I always use #<show title> spoilers if you need to filter, for example: Andor spoilerswill be tagged #Andor Spoilers).
