Hi, do you know the difference between a fragment and a facet? I'm having trouble telling.
Hiya! Folks might use these words interchangeably, but we personally understand them to be different things!
A fragment (in plural contexts) is a system member who is not a fully formed headmate, or a member who lacks a well-rounded or complete identity. Sometimes fragments only hold onto a memory or a role without developing further, and they may or may not have much personal agency in their own lives. Fragments can exist in systems of all sorts!
A facet is a one-dimensioned side of something that is multi-dimensional. So for, say, systems with members who are all interconnected, they might refer to each other as facets instead of headmates, parts, or some other term. A single facet is one facet of a multi-faceted system. Facets may present as different “sides” of a single person, or as the different members of a median system!
Gonna go ahead include the Pluralpedia entries for these words in case they explained it better than we could >w<
Other folks may have different or better definitions for these words, but this is how we understand them currently. If anyone has a better understanding or if our answer is misinformed, please let us know!! But we hope this helps! :3

In the stillness of low poly valleys, history whispers through angular leaves, unfolding tales of ancient echoes carved in crystalline simplicity. Time flows gently over faceted rivers, where serene contours capture fragments of distant eras, each polygon a silent sentinel of memories past.

ngl I rly took for granted how easy fragmented identity crises are in comparison to the big Whom The Fuck Am I crisis
#mine#a fragmented identity meaning one facet of who I am like gender or sexuality#things that matter but you can move forward without solving with mild to moderate discomfort#I am currently experiencing a big ol' Whom The Fuck Am I crisis which is ''hey why am I not responding normally to my name''#which could be a moderate discomfort normally but some stuff is going down in my personal life where My Name is suddenly more important

I remembered I had all of the homeworld domains for all the diamonds in my ME/SU crossover drawn out! I love drawing in the steven universe style for background work, it's so fun. I have different names for the diamonds as well, i'm sure it's easy to figure out who is who.

‘I believe the kids say, you ‘pogged’ it’
Do they say that? Uzi's so behind on teenage slang that she's still not sure what rizz means, and skibidi is just right out. But she has to match the energy, or else she'll be a laughingstock at school again- is there even a school in this place? She hasn't thought of that yet. If she's finally free from the shackles of- She's getting off track here, back to the slang.
"Chat, is... is that real?" she says, with only a smidge of uncertainty.
The other boy looks at her- judgmentally? Then he nods, and speaks again. "That's so ohio."
She's in. "Fanum tax."
"Gyatt."
"Real alpha."
"Chad W!"
"Very sus!"
"Sigma!"
Uzi stands proudly, having communicated in a way that is, presumably, completely intelligible to the other boy. There may not be any classrooms here, but she's achieved a passing grade in conversation, which is a very normal thing to think.
The other boy leans in; he's a little taller than her, but not by much, and Uzi has to crane her head back to meet him. "Alright, you gotta tell me... What does any of that mean?"
The only sound in the air is the gentle hum of Uzi's processor as it tries to light itself on fire. "I... I don't know! I thought you did!"
"No! But you were saying it all so confidently that I figured you must have! I thought you were one of those... what are they called, computers. A repository for human knowledge!" His eyes sparkle as he speaks. "I've got so many questions!"
"Bite me, not a computer! And they're all dead!" snaps Uzi. "At least, they are where I come from. All of them died. I'd never met a human before coming here. A live one, I mean."
The sparkles fade. "Oh. Really?"
"Yeah."
There's no sound in the air now. Uzi feels... not guilty, but maybe awkward? She should at least try to salvage things, but she only knows one or two things about humans. "Do you... know about anime? Humans invented it, I think."
"Yeah, Luz told me about that. Why?"
"I have a couple terabytes saved on my computer- Not me, like, my computer at home. If you want, I could show you-"
And the sparkles are back. "Really? From context I assume that's a lot! I'd love to!"
He's a little too close, and Uzi steps back. "I-I mean, it's no big deal, I just do a lot of pirating-"
"And you're a pirate? This is just getting better and better!"
"Uh, sure. We'll find something to watch; humans may have messed up a lot, but they did make some good anime." The energy is more upbeat now, and Uzi's glad she hasn't killed anything but vibes in this city. "Lucky for you, you have an expert to guide you. Now, how much time do you have? Have you ever heard of Naruto?"

hkjgh NONE OF US CAN DECIDE CORE'S COLOR. we went for like? a near-black at first. and then switched to a light purple. and then a gold color, and then lightened that gold into a shade of cream? and then a deep, dark blue. and now we've settled on some light cerulean shade.
it doesn't help that Ceres is like. perfectly pliant and complaisant about anything we choose for them hkjhg like!! do you have any opinions on this our beloved core??? our dearest main??? the one that all of us orbit??? no????? nothing??????
#we are orbiting a hollow moon here gang.#core is something like a fragment most of the time. we all work together to blanket him but without us she's kind of... empty...?#luckily we're all almost always here fronting to keep her company and keep the body running together.#i think shell is the term? fun fact Ceres's name was almost Shell. and it still could be one of em honestly hkjhg#another fun fact we originally didnt have them listed hkjg we like... didn't consider them a facet? because like. they're /not/ hkjg??#/we're/ the facets!! all the sides! they're the core at the center! like you wouldn't call the center of a diamond one of its facets lmao??#she reminds us of cardamon's mom from Bee n Puppy.cat. laying unconscious on the bed with all the wires attached to her like we are.#we're... all that's keeping him alive..? do you think we did this to him? when we separated into facets? did we leave them empty?#OH SHIT IS THAT WHAT SPLITTING IS??? IS THAT WHAT WE ARE?????? DID WE ACTUALLY DO THIS TO HER BY BECOMING INDIVIDUALS????#no. come on. we've always been here. we've always existed. okay so then core's always been like this? empty? which one is sadder?#you're saying this as if we killed her or something. WOULD YOU CALL THIS LIVING?? SHE CAN'T EVEN PICK THE COLOR SHE'D LIKE!!!#...#...wow upsetting to think about. anyway....#we all love them. a lot. it's like shivers (we gotta stop comparing our facets to shivers hkjgh) where she's both like.#la revachoIiere. the city. the genus Ioci; larger than life and glorious. the most powerful of all of us. the revered and beloved.#but also. needs to be protected. her death is coming and we need to keep her alive. you get me? so big and powerful. so small and dependent#our main and our core. our raison d’être. he's our center and without him none of us would be able to exist i think. but he's empty and we.#we're not sure how to feel about that hkjhg... an issue for another day hkjgh maybe let's get back to colors gang?? :']#...maybe we'll give them the lavender again...#urghhh we need to get to bed you guys this post was supposed to be lighthearted.

What I think is so crazy is that you can essentially immortalize yourself through writing. My fanfiction? It contains pieces of myself in it. The mannerisms of my characters, the random line about an allergy, or how they slice their sandwiches—it’s me. It’s all me. I am them and they are me and each and every one of my characters is a fragment of myself. I’ve never been truly whole when I’ve poured myself into everything that I’ve ever loved. All my characters, every facet and every detail. It’s all me. I love writing and it’s everything I’ve ever loved.

One under-discussed conclusion that must be drawn from the period of student encampments last spring is the absolute necessity of linking the student movement(s) with the worker's movement. They were always limited in the realistic achievements they could reach -getting universities to divest from Israeli institutions and companies- and very often also limited in the stated scope of each encampment. This is the manifestation of two problems; the excessive fragmentation and localism which plagues student movements in the imperial core, and the comparmentalization away from the broader worker's movement.
Focusing on the second aspect, students are not a separate class of people with separate interests. They are the children of the working class, many of them forced to work while studying, and all of them conditioned by the functions of higher education within capitalism; to create the hyperspecialiced educated workers demanded by capital, and to ensure the reproduction of the dominant ideology. The only substantial differenciation of students from the rest of their class is the distinct forms of socialization, receptiveness, and in general, the organization of their day-to-day lives. From this reality it would then follow the understanding that specific student organizations are useful and often necessary, but only if it is also understood that it's just a secondary (but also important) action inside the broader stage of worker's organization
If there had been a unified student movement capable of striking with a single fist that also understood its connection with their own class, the encampments could have been framed within a bigger and much more effective course of action. The negotiations and pressure for specific divestments would not have been the end-all-be-all of political achievement, but another facet in the internationalist struggle against genocidal settler-colonialism. Instead of drowning in the shallow pool of its own endogamy and being severely subjected to the comings and goings of student mobilization cycles, it could have supported itself on the more stable (although not free from cycles) workers' movement as well as being an occasional crutch for it.

Yandere Drabble
Rover

Rover as a yandere? Oh, lovely, this is a goldmine.
With their mix of power, mystery, and layered personality traits offered in the dialogue option in game, Rover would exude a unique type of obsession that feels like being caught in a storm—inescapable, overwhelming, yet eerily calm at its core.
Depending on the facet of their personality that emerges, their behavior could range from silently watching over you to asserting their dominance with a cheeky smirk or ensuring your safety with ruthless precision.
Rover’s yandere tendencies would stem from their need to anchor themselves in a world they barely understand.
Their amnesia and mysterious origins add an air of unpredictability to their obsession, making their actions fluctuate between tender care, cold determination, and playful possessiveness.
With no memories or past to guide them, you’d become their one constant, their reason for existing.
Their obsession would manifest in unshakable protectiveness, coupled with a refusal to let you stray too far—both physically and emotionally.
Rover's love for you transcends typical boundaries, fueled by a deep-seated need to protect and possess you as the one constant in their otherwise unstable existence.
Rover’s kindness wouldn’t falter, even as they quietly dismantle every threat around you.
Rover approaches you with a gentle and considerate demeanor.
They respect your space and preferences, always phrasing their controlling tendencies as concern for your well-being.
“I apologize if my presence feels overwhelming, but I cannot bear the thought of something happening to you.”
Imagine them with a neutral face as they casually tell someone who upset you, “You won’t make that mistake again, will you?” Their tone leaves no room for argument.
Their serious side ensures that everything about your life is meticulously managed, whether you realize it or not.
When this side of Rover takes over, they become an unyielding force, determined to keep you safe no matter the cost.
They view the world and everyone in it as a potential threat, acting with calculated efficiency to eliminate any danger.
“Stay where I can see you. The world is unpredictable, and I refuse to take unnecessary risks with you.”
They’d never yell or act impulsively; instead, their actions would be precise and inescapable.
Oh, when they’re in the mood, Rover would let their overconfidence shine.
In this mode, Rover is playful and assertive, using their charm and wit to keep you close.
They enjoy teasing you about your reliance on them, all while ensuring that you remain firmly within their grasp.
“Admit it—you need me.”
Polite, respectful, and almost detached, as if they’re unaffected by anything. People admire their composure and view them as an untouchable enigma.
With you, the mask slips. They’re intensely focused, their every word and action laced with quiet devotion—and just a hint of something you feel trapped by.
Rover’s multifaceted nature makes them unpredictable. You never know which side of them you’ll encounter, leaving you constantly on edge.
“The past may be lost to me, but you are my present, my future, my everything.”
Their obsession is undeniable, but the way they express it shifts like a kaleidoscope, making it impossible to anticipate their next move.
Rover’s obsession is rooted in their identity crisis.
You’re their anchor, and losing you would unravel the fragile sense of self they’ve built.
“I exist for you. Without you, what’s left of me?”
Whether through kindness, cold calculation, or playful manipulation, they ensure that you come to see them as indispensable. They don’t need to rely on overt force; their multifaceted approach makes resistance futile.
You are the anchor that grounds their fragmented identity, and they will never let you go.
To others, Rover might appear as a mysterious, amnesiac wanderer, but to you, they are an enigma of love, devotion. Their presence is both comforting and suffocating, their love a paradoxical blend of tenderness and obsession.
After all, how can you fight someone who has no limits, no weaknesses, and no greater purpose than you?

Returning to your SU/ME crossover...
What would the Council species think about gemtech? Since it is technology not based on Eezo that can do things like faster than light travel with its gravity warps, distorting space so that ships are bigger inside than outside, the paralyzing wands and other absurd things.
Sorry it took a little bit to get to this!! 😁 and thank you so much for sending in an ask!! i give u one big hug ! I had to kinda think about it for a few days honestly, since gemtech seems so mysterious in terms of how it's presented in the show while Mass Effect has somewhat of an explanation for a lot of their technology. And if I were to be honest, I think it should stay that way- having no real explanation makes it sound scary and alien. "What are they capable of?" I think is the collective thought anyone would have probably. Too many theories, too dangerous to get a closer look, so it's left up in the air to uncertainty. Once again shoutout to Salarians...... they would be equally intrigued and terrified about what the hell these things are. They defy the logic of what's possible, but there has to be some sort of explanation as to how it works...
