A Steddie / Buckingham comedy of errors of sorts. It goes like this.
Robin thinks Chrissy Cunningham might be her non platonic soulmate. She's smart, a little goofy, observant, seems like a great listener, and after what the rumor mill is saying was a pretty intense summer has really come into her own. It's a shame she went straight from dating Jason to Eddie Munson.
"She said she's working on herself," Steve claims, more in tune with the gossip than she is, "pretty hypocritical of you to say guys and girls can't be friends."
Which is pretty hypocritical of him when she knows he only cares cause he's already planning his wedding to Chrissy's new boyfriend; he needs Eddie to be single otherwise he's pining away for his perfect co-babysitter for nothing.
But it doesn't matter if they are dating or if they aren't or if Chrissy Cunningham with her perfect strawberry blonde ponytail is her soulmate, because her parents keep trying to set her up with some friend of a friend. She needs to do something quick before disaster strikes.
Melissa and Richard Buckley still know how to tie one on, when the occasion strikes. They're parents now, they've settled down some. Given in to the picket fence life, keep their yard mowed so Gayle Collins down the way stops glaring. They haven't done anything really crazy since that weekend they left Robin with Minerva and went to see what that whole Woodstock thing was about. Now they mostly just stick to getting as high as they can and stargazing on the weekends that Robin is off with Steve, a sweet boy kind of a square but the brownie recipe he gave them makes the best edibles.
Melissa can tell her daughter is lonely, she notices a lot of things about Robin that she won't tell them. Richard has noticed that their dealer Eddie has started bringing a friend along with him. Eddie is a sweet boy too, raised well respects his elders something they care about now that they've become them, he is also obviously and fantastically gay. Like all the parents in Hawkins, Richard and Melissa have heard how Wayne Munson has taken in that Cunningham girl after she came back from her trip out of state. Melissa remembers being a vaguely out of control youth and knows that a trip out of state is code for one of two things, and Chrissy doesn't look like she's ever been pregnant. Chrissy seems like a girl who might like their daughter.
Steve would die before he denies Robin just about anything. She is the platonic love of his life, they nearly died together, they've come out together. He's pretty sure as long as he has Robin and his kids he'd be content for the rest of his life, romance be damned.
A sentiment Robin seems to agree with since she wants him to fake being her boyfriend. Obviously, he says yes. Steve is a good boyfriend, he's always been a good boyfriend. He's attentive, great with parents, knows when to keep the pda to a minimum but also knows when to put on a show. He used to be pretty sure that Mr. and Mrs. Buckley liked him. So he's not really sure why they pulled him aside before movie night.
"Your parents hate me."
"There isn't a parent in Hawkins who hates you."
"You mom just asked me if I didn't think it might be better if I found someone more suited to me."
"What does that even mean?"
"It's basically mom code for I think your the worst person my daughter could have brought home. If I had the choice I'd kill you so why don't you do us both a favor and fuck off."
"I don't think that's right."
"Rob, I love you but conversational nuance isn't exactly your thing."
Eddie likes his job. Sure it's technically not honest work, but who knows maybe down the line they'll legalize it. He's getting in on the ground floor, an entrepreneur. Hawkins is surprisingly pro-weed and Eddie is just fine sticking to that after this summer. His favorite customers are the old folks. Like Miss Brenda at the library or the Buckleys. He always brings Chrissy along when he goes out these days, she feels weird staying in the trailer by herself and he likes having her nearby. She puts people at ease.
Except the Buckleys, who seem strangely obsessed with her. They ask her pointed questions about Dorothy, and surely they mean an actual Dorothy, surely the nice middle aged couple aren't trying to figure out if Chrissy is queer. Sure he got some vibes off of Buckley the younger, but that was before she started dating the love of his life. Now he's starting to think his whole gaydar has gone to shit.
Chrissy, a baby gay who has just broken free of the nastiest case of comp het Eddie has ever seen, answer honestly. She doesn't know a Dorothy, is that one of Robin's band friends? How is Robin, she is so sweet. Chrissy just wishes she had more time in the day so they could see each other more. She's dating Steve right, they make just the cutest couple, don't they think?
Eddie can tell Melissa doesn't. A surprise when even Wayne likes Steve Harrington, thinks he's the bees knees. Loaned him a screwdriver or some shit when the guy was over fixing something at the Mayfield place. She smiles though and agrees that Steve is quite sweet, in a tone that Eddie is far more used to hearing used when people are talking about him than about Steve Harrington. He blinks and the next thing he knows Chrissy is agreeing for them both that dinner on Friday sounds lovely; she'll bring a dessert.
Like she's ever baked in her life.
Chrissy Cunningham has had a rough couple of months, but she's settled now. Sure, she had a breakdown so bad in Eddie's trailer that she ended up having to get professional help; but she got that help and a new support system for herself. Really, the only way life could be much better is if she were dating Robin Buckley.
Eddie likes to tease her, calls her a baby gay like she's a wobbly legged deer still figuring things out. She's had eyes on Robin since the fifth grade, when she got her hair cut short to her shoulders the first time and her teeth still had a gap before her braces went on. Steve is a great guy, she's seen him with the group of freshmen that follow him around like ducklings; she's also watching him now and he's spent most of dinner making moon eyes at Eddie instead of his girlfriend.
She doesn't understand how, Robin is a vision. Full of spit and vinegar, she is firecracker mad glaring at her parents across the table. "You really brought him here? I'm dating Steve, can you not accept that?"
A lot happens at once, Chrissy isn't entirely sure what is going on but it feels a lot like a pot boiling over, something left too long unattended.
"We aren't trying to set you up with our dealer," Mr. Buckley said. "You're not exactly his type."
"Chrissy is such a nice girl." Mrs. Buckley tries.
"You said you stopped that," Steve to Eddie, a lethal pout on his lips and downturned eyes.
"Well, I stopped with the kids," Eddie tries, "I gotta pay the bills somehow, sweetheart."
"Chrissy?" If Robin was a vision in her sharp eyed rage, she's radiant in her pink cheeked surprise.
Once the shock, surprise, and comedy wear off Chrissy thinks there will be tears. Robin's parents seem nice. They seem like the kind of parents you confide in and who hold you tight. She thinks about her mom doing something thoughtful, thinks of her quietly accepting who she is and who she loves; and when she can't do that she thinks of Wayne and Eddie and knows she'd cry once they were alone and the theater of it all was over. So she thinks she might need to make the most of her moment while it's there. "I don't want to be a homewrecker," she jokes, something she's picked up from Eddie, "but I think your boyfriend has his eyes other places."
"Boyfriend, what boyfriend?"
"They're showing Clue at The Hawk this weekend, if you want to go with me?"
Robin can't nod her head fast enough.
"Stevie, I noticed you find yourself newly single," Eddie says, sorrow so fake he should rethink his decision to go within 10 feet of the drama department. "If you could bear it, would you want to crash their date make it a double?"
Steve agrees so fast a bit of hair escapes his coif, it falls in a curl at his forehead.
Robin's parents both seem pleased, pleasant smiles that chrissy is becoming more accustomed to seeing on adults now that she resides in the Munson place. "They'll be smug about this forever," Robin confides. Her smile betrays her lack of real dismay.
Chrissy got her girl and her best friend got his boy, so she thinks it's all's well that ends well.

who do you think each bats' favourite sibling is canonically? i haven't seen much about this outside of super fanon stuff so i'm curious
Let's start with the easiest one!
Tim - Dick
Tim's favorite sibling but also favorite person ever is unquestionably, undoubtedly Dick. This boy adores his big brother. He's full-on obsessed with him.
His thoughts on Dick are just a compilation of praises about him and his inner dialogue simply consists of a series of hero worship.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Robin (1993) Issue #32

Red Robin Issue #23
Sometimes I ponder about Dick and Tim's relationship because I feel like what Tim wants from Dick isn't just a brother, I feel like he wants him to be a parent which is part of the reason why Tim and Damian don't get along.
Because the truth is, before Damian came along, Tim was Dick's robin first. And Tim loved it.
(This post was on hold for months because I needed that exact panel where Tim says to Dick "It's obvious he wants us to be the new batman and Robin." BuT i CaNt FiNd It. I literally give up, if anyone know what panel I'm referring to people reblog it with the panel and I'll upload it with the post)
Dick was Tim's Robin and everything he did he wanted to live up to him
Tumblr media
Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War: Scorched Earth
Look at what he says about Dick:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Batman: A Lonely Place of Dying
Even before Dick and Tim met again, Tim started working out just so he could be like his idol. Tim literally says to Dick "My grades are okay but I studied because I wanted to just like you."
You know what they say about idols and pedestals and never meeting your heroes? The opposite is true for Tim about Dick. After meeting Dick for the second time, his idol worship grew so much it shattered every ceiling in existence.
Tim loves him so so much. People sometimes misunderstand and think that Tim hated Dick when he fired him from Robin but it wasn't hate that Tim felt. It was jealousy. Jealousy over Dick choosing Damian over him.
Tim even solely used the Red Robin persona for the mere reason that he didn't want to dirty Dick's Robin by stigmatizing it with his less ethical actions.
Damian - Dick
Obviously. The only reason I said Tim was the easiest is because Tim's inner and outer thoughts about Dick can be complied to create volumes of fanbooks of flowing poetry about him. Damian on the other hand is more of a tsundere, but there's still only one person who he loves aside from his father and even more than.

If there were any doubts, I don't think this panel could be any clearer about who Damian's favorite is.
Stephanie - Cass

Duke - noone? everyone?
Like actually I can't pick out one person Duke likes the best. You're either on his wavelength or he's snarking you off it. He's the type of guy where everyone likes him and he's chilling by himself, doing whatever he wants.
Jason - Dick
Out of the batkids who did deal with Jason during his worst phase, Dick is unilaterally his favorite. Sometimes when I think about Jason's relationship with Bruce, I'm reminded of how much Jason and Bruce are alike sometimes because Jason's view on Dick is almost identical to Bruce's view on Dick and they even have similar reactions. We all know that Bruce hero-worships Dick. Time and time again, Bruce emphasizes, stresses, and talks about how amazing Dick is and how he's so much better than him, and constantly places Dick on a pedestal. The issue comes when Dick doesn't want to do what Bruce wants him to do because he believes that Dick is an extension of himself, his better half, and he's furious when Dick doesn't follow or accept what he's doing because Dick should know what Bruce is trying to do because he's supposed to be better than him, how dare he stop him, etc.
Jason acts in similar ways to Dick. There's a whole issue where Jason gets fear gassed and one of his biggest fears is Dick. More specifically, it's about how amazing Dick is and never living up to him because in Jason's eyes, Dick is absolutely perfect. There is no one better than him because he is the peak of everything. He places Dick on the highest pedestal there is and he kind of safeguards Dick there in his heart. He used to get really angry because he believes Dick is the best but also refuses to let Dick be anything other than the best. The best way I have to explain them is Jason holding Dick prisoner as a result of his hero worship.
Once Jason is slightly calmer, his relationship dynamics with everyone became really clear, as well as what he thinks of them and it's shown how the way he treats Dick is just different.

Grayson Issue #12
"You don't do that to your--you don't do that to another Robin!"
He was going to say brother 🥺🥺
In this scene, it's pretty obvious that Jason loves Dick a lot but he's obviously not going to be all fuzzy feelings about it because he likes to be edgy. Jason's a little confusing in general for people to understand because they expect him to be nice and open but Jason's not nice, he's just nicer to the people he likes. Once we start understanding that, he becomes clearer.
And to Dick -

Nightwing (2016) Issue #15
-He's exceptionally nicer.
Tumblr media
DC's Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun Issue #1
Another example of why Jason loves Dick the most is because in the comics, Jason doesn't work with anyone in the family unless he has to unless it's Dick because he chooses to work with Dick by choice.
Dick - Tim or Damian
Dick adores Tim so freaking much. He loves him so, so much.

Nightwing (1996) Issue #139
Catch me crying behind my sunglasses at Dick kissing Tim's head lovingly 😭

Robin (1993) Issue #12
I just love these soft touch moments Dick has with Tim. It's so incredibly sweet.
He was Tim's mentor

and a really good one too.
He loves him-
Tumblr media

-so much.
(I'd add more panels but I ran out of image space :'0)
I genuinely cannot say who he loves more at all. I can't even pick. I really do think he loves them evenly because when I think about leaning one side, more evidence comes to mind for the other side like a pair of counter weights.
Damian...I don't really need to say any words because the pictures speak for themselves

aldskjdhkdjfhldfah;dh. Look at what he gave his son! A souvenir from the first time his dad met his mom because Dick knows how much Damian loves his parents <333!! There's nothing I can even say more.
Here's my previous post on Dick and Damian's relationship.

Desire is such a futile thing. Grasping at a fleeting fit of passion that will be over in just a few breaths. Yearning for a moment ever so brief, it was like it never even began. It only continues to ponder you as you stare at the book of forgotten history, tucked between an old Jane Eyre and newly found poetry. It's an odd place, but Soobin himself is odd. He thought that it would allow someone to find a new interest – resting unlike books next to one another. You yourself didn't even know the book existed until you stumbled upon it. Your fingers glide along the pages, many dog-eared. A part of you hopes that whenever Soobin comes back he could tell you why he noted these particular pages. If he ever does, that is. The lump in your throat continues. You flip a page with hopes to distract yourself.
The multitude of Fae folk is still unknown. Ranging from the dozens to hundreds, not one researcher agrees on how many exactly exist, or if they truly exist at all. But what we all know is that it begins with disappearances.
Until a town is drained dry.
You close the book, the familiar chill creeping up again. The store is closed now and you've checked twice to make sure it's empty. There is no real reason why you feel fear. But you're not one to ignore it. You tuck the book away, locking up the front gates to the store and exiting promptly, the apartment above the store left abandoned.
It has been over a month now since Soobin has disappeared. You've been interviewed by the local sheriff's department for your involvement and your plea for innocence was believed. No one could say nor prove it was your fault that Soobin suddenly vanished. Nothing tied you to it. Even the townsfolk, as bitter as they may be that you weren't the one to leave, told the police that you were at various stores in town when he was no longer around. You could only thank them. Perhaps your reputation isn't as heinous as you once thought.
Contacting his family was your biggest fear. His parents told you that Soobin called at the time, explaining he needed time away then never called again. They aren't as worried as you, apologizing for the way he broke up with you. Neither of you understand why he just left. It's not like him. He fights tooth and nail and never just leaves. Foul play has been ruled out but you just can't wrap your head around it. The two of you loved one another. Giving up that easily… Do you even know the real Choi Soobin?
Have you ever?
"Haven't I told you not to walk home alone?"
Seonghwa appears next to you as he always does. Hands tucked in his sleek trench coat, the same friendly smile on his lips. His strange appearance is nothing new. A few times a week he seemingly conjures up on empty streets and sidewalks to walk you home. Only another check on your list of him not being human. He never threatened you nor persuaded you with anything nefarious as of yet, but his presence still brought fear. One day the visits wouldn't be so meaningless. One day he won't be as kind.
"There's no one ever around for me to be scared, Hwa," you say. "Unless you want me to be afraid of you."
"You should be mindful. Not everyone is as they seem. You should know from experience."
Whether or not his words are a purposeful jab is frivolous, but they do sting. "Feels like a warning for me to stay away from you, Seonghwa."
He doesn't stop walking, his voice is softer this time. "I didn't mean it that way. You know that."
You do. Since you've met the mysterious man all he's done is stand up for you. Irritate the locals with his snarky remarks, enough so that many began to leave you alone. Sure, the lack of customers is quite severe at this moment, it was better than having to force a smile on your lips as they mentioned how Soobin ran the store better than you ever have. There's only so many strained smiles you could muster.
But trusting Seonghwa? The creature of the night who you are ninety-five percent sure is a Faerie? An Unseelie one at that? You can only hold back your scoff. What you have found about them is helpful. One of which you haven't tested yet – whether or not they could lie. Now is a prime opportunity. You glance at the man walking next to you, before speaking. Low ball questions first, before you can gradually ask the important ones.
"Do you think I'm doing well?" You ask.
His brow raises. "Change of subject?"
"A bit, but not really. I just… it's been a lot, being on my own now. I was self-sufficient before I met him and still am, but things are different. I wanted this dream with him. I wanted to struggle with him. Sometimes I wonder if all of this is worth it. If I should even wait for him."
"You are doing well," he murmurs. "As well as a human can under these circumstances."
Your chest begins to tighten at his words. The thought of proving yourself right is gone. The sincerity of his goes in one ear and out the other. Only one word you can focus on. One sticking out in the sentence, bile gathering at the back of your throat.
Human.
No one you've met in your entire life speaks of people that way. You struggle to hold your poker face. Pretend that nothing is wrong. You take a slow breath. "Thank you."
"It's not a problem. Ah, I must go now though, my family will be wondering where I am by now," he glances at his watch, before shooting you a small smile. "I will see you soon, y/n. Have a good rest."
He turns on his heels before you can say more, disappearing into the night. You hold your bag closer to yourself, steps quickening. You have little option left. You can't leave the town no matter how much you want to – that'll mean leaving the bookstore behind. A sound minded person would forget about it and just leave but you can't. Despite how disappointed you are for Soobin leaving you alone, you can't leave the store. It's silly, but you still care about him. It'll hurt you to see the store fall apart. You just hope he'll come back soon.
Maybe then he'll be able to tell you if you're being delusional or not.
-
"She knows." Seonghwa enters his home, frustration coating his features. "I fucked it up and now she knows."
"Told you~" Wooyoung's falsetto tone rings through the corridors. "I should have gone to her instead."
The glare Seonghwa sends him is enough for Wooyoung to drop his grin, exiting the room. Jongho and Yunho are the only other two in the room, both focused on reading. They're underdressed for this time of night; Seonghwa knows that Hongjoong planned another visit to the human world for food. And it's their turn to join them, though they look too involved in their own separate readings to even change out of their sleepwear. Yunho looks up from the writings.
"On a scale from Hongjoong tripping on a rock to Mingi setting fire to a village, how bad?"
Seonghwa sighs. "I said humans in front of her."
Jongho winces, "No coming back from that. What did you do after?"
"I panicked and left. Her heart rate picked up and her perspiration began coating her forehead. I thought I would be able to last longer–"
"She is quite intelligent. It wouldn't have taken her longer than another week to put the pieces together. You just sped up the process," Yunho murmurs. "But the question still remains: How do we explain this to everyone else?"
"We don't," Jongho closes his book softly, glancing between them. "Wooyoung is very likely running around our home right now telling every living soul what happened. We'll just have to deal with the repercussions. She knows now, which means that she will avoid you Seonghwa. And will very likely be wary of any new people hovering around her. It won't be as easy this time to convince her to come here."
"We keep her here then?" Yunho suggests.
"No…" Seonghwa stops pacing, thinking. "She trusts me. At least more than the rest of us. I can convince her to come here willingly."
"Can you?"
Seonghwa frowns. He's not too sure. He's broken it at this point. Struggling to mend it back together will just take too long. You'll slip right through their fingers. So despite how much he does not want to consider this choice, it's all he has. Perhaps the incessant little voice in the back of his head is correct.
"Wooyoung may be able to. I know we've avoided his particular methods, but there's little left to be done. The rest of us aren't as friendly as him, aside from Yunho. And you often avoid humans entirely because of your attachment issues."
Yunho frowns, "Thanks for pointing that out."
"Your decision has come too late," Another voice interrupts them, their gaze moving to the door. San leans on the threshold, cross arms against his chest. "The little turnip has already left our home. It's only a matter of time that he stumbles upon her path."
Their combined groans echo around the room.
-
Wooyoung sits on the edge of the stone fence, leg swinging. He can recall Seonghwa saying that he saw you meander by this path often, but it’s been several days now and Wooyoung himself hasn’t seen you once. Perhaps it was a different path? His fingers run along the stone, humming. Moss covers the gray now, the elements turning it into a darkened, brown color. He whispers into his fingers, pressing them back to the stone. His gaze softens when he sees the color slowly coming back.
“Humans,” he murmurs, scowling. A sweet smell fills his nose. He looks up from the rock, licking his lips. You stand at the end of the path, frozen in your spot. Your hands grip the straps of your bag. Eyes widened in fear. His match yours, but instead in glee, hopping off his spot. You don’t move – even as he slides down the hill, stopping just in front of you.
His hair is long and wavy, framing his cheeks. Kind eyes that seem to be without malice. But you’re not too sure of that. Faeries have a way of concealing their true intentions without much effort. He pushes strands away from his face, tucking it behind his ear. His wear is unusual – mossy green transparent attire adorning his slim frame, barefoot, though no sign of torn skin from the rough ground. You wrinkle your nose. Dwelling on odd observations won't pull you out of this situation.
“y/n. Seonghwa never told me you were easy on the eyes. It’ll be sadder for me to dance with you now,” he frowns, gaze flicking over your face. Dance?
He leans forward. “Your aura is bright. You remind me of a sunset.”
You try and pretend the familiar name does not phase you. It's difficult – you've suspected endlessly that Seonghwa is a faerie and his words are merely confirmation. So maybe this is a friend of his, or family? Either way it doesn't matter to you. Sticking around is the last thing you want.
“I have to be somewhere,” you say through tight lips. He shrugs, taking another step toward you. Panic settles in your chest. No one is around, no one would stop him even if they were. You're all alone in this. “Sir, pardon me–”
“Oh!” He grins, laughing. “Sir? Do not tease me, human. My name is Wooyoung. Ah wait, look at this my lux solaris.” He turns his hand over, palm facing you. You look away from it, a sigh echoing around you. “I won’t kill you, you know.”
“That doesn’t mean you won’t hurt me.” A quick thought crosses your mind: where’s Soobin when you need him? Just as the silly thought appears it's gone. Nowhere. Nowhere around here for all you know. You hate how your mind next moves to the kind Seonghwa. Would he do anything? Or will he only allow this to happen? And why are you depending so much on a man – no, faerie.
He purses his lips, “You know the way of the fae. Fine, I won’t hurt you or ensnare you or kill you in any way right now. Now look,” he nudges you slightly. You finally move your eyes down to his hand. Using his other hand, he drags his pointer finger across his palm. A bright yellow path follows it, disappearing off the edge of his palm. His eyes flick to yours, grin widening.
“It is solaris, like you.” he closes his fist, “I’ve practiced that trick for hundreds of years now, you know. It’s hard for humans to see the Will o’ the Wisp without falling prey. So you must be quite special."
You back away from him, "It was a trick?"
"No, because I can't lie as you know," he rolls his eyes. "I just knew you wouldn't fall underneath the spell because we have tried it already on you, silly."
"Excuse me?"
"You are resistant to our will, solaris. And none of us quite know why. I'm here to pretend to woo you and guide you back to our home to do testing. By any means necessary. And if my surly words don't work, I'll do it by force."
Everything he says confuses you more and more. "Why would you tell me you're to lure me?"
His smile slips. "What would you rather me do, lie? You know yourself that Unseelie cannot lie. So why shall I tread around the truth?"
"Will Seonghwa be there?"
He rolls his eyes. "Of course. He needs to be there so he can see that my method works much better than he has ever done or ever will."
"... Is there any way for me to get out of this?"
He pouts, shaking his head. "Of course not."
Debating on running would be also silly then. He lets you ponder, folded hands resting behind him as he paces. You look back at the path. Just as you're about to turn, Wooyoung appears by your side. His sudden presence makes you stumble, falling back to the sidewalk. He sighs, watching as you gather your things and stand again.
"Running would be useless. I can just make you come with me solaris. But I want to make this easy."
"Kidnapping someone is never easy," you murmur between tight lips. Why did you ever decide to enter this town? It seems like every signal mythical creature around is appearing. It wouldn't shock you if Soobin suddenly appeared, explaining his disappearance is due to him being a merman. The thought makes you snort.
Wooyoung grins. "Now you understand! Let's go!" He touches your elbow lightly, and before you can shove him off, an uneasy feeling settles over you. It grips your skin, painfully pulling against the surface before your surroundings change. You can barely breathe, falling to the grass beneath you. The sidewalk from before is gone, replaced with thickened underbrush and endless woods. You swallow, mouth dry.
"Hm," he bends down, eyes roaming over you once. "Perhaps Hongjoong was right when he told me humans couldn't demanifest."
"You're sick," you manage to speak, coughing. Your body slowly begins to feel like your own, trembles cascading through you. Wooyoung does nothing to help, looking you over as you finally bring yourself back to the reality in front of you. It's difficult to stand but you manage. Your bag is gone, probably somewhere between the split of reality he just dragged you through. "Never do that again."
"I won't. Demanifestation seemed to have done a number on you and I apologize for that. But it appears that a part of you was left behind."
You immediately touch your body. Your clothes are intact, fingers touching your hair. You look at him in confusion, his wicked smile stretching across his cheeks. The breath that comes out feels louder than before.
"You tricked me."
"No," his brows furrow. "Your bag. It's still back on the sidewalk. But your town is … well, I'm sure it will remain in the same place."
There's no reason to reply, steadying yourself. You look around, the forest too dense for you to see any opening. Whether you like it or not, you're stuck with the faerie. He knows it as well.
"We're done after this?"
He doesn't say a word.
“Our home is quite simple since we live in the middle of the Rowan trees. We have to make sure it’s hidden enough from both humans and other faeries,” he explains. You notice how light his steps are, as if he is floating over bricks, barely making an imprint in the dirt. Unlike yourself – stumbling ungracefully over rocks and forestry, trying your best to stabilize yourself. Wooyoung doesn’t point out your lack of coordination, still speaking about the grandeur of a house that’s … the opposite? You're not too sure on the nuances.
“There’s no need to worry,” he says after a moment, stopping just in front of you. "I'm not bringing you to your death."
"You vaporized me and transported me to the middle of a forest, and shortly after told me you didn't realize it would bother me. So I'm sorry if I don't exactly trust anything you say to me."
"It's true," he whines. You stare at him strangely. He has to be much older than you – Unseelie live to unfathomable ages from what you've read. They're conniving and humorous to capture you but after, ruthless and unforgiving. Now that Wooyoung has you, you can't see why he's still acting so silly. Humorous even. You might even enjoy his company if you weren't in the situation you are right now.
"Okay," you murmur.
He holds out his hand. Fear curls in you as you take his. His skin is warm, fingers entwining in yours with ease. He stares ahead, humming. "Humans can't see our home since we're quite close to neighborhoods. Hold onto me until we pass the threshold, alright? And don't let go until I tell you. It'll feel as if your body is being torn apart if you don't pass through properly. Do you understand?" There isn't any teasing like before, eyes focused. You nod, and he matches you. With his free hand, he holds it out.
The air seems to shimmer and bend beneath his fingertips, twisting reality. Just as quick as he does it, your surroundings change. What was once endless forest is now a large structure in the middle of overgrown trees. The home looks pristine despite its surroundings, vines covering and growing into the brickface. It looks to be three floors, a wrap around porch, all of the windows and doors ajar. Wooyoung lets out a sigh of relief. His fingers begin to slip from yours. Your own grip tightens and he furrows his brows, confused.
“Hm?” His lips part, recognition. “Ah, I’ve pulled you through the fabric of reality already, solaris. You can let go whenever you like. Though I don’t mind continuing to hold you.”
You let go, his laugh echoing through the forest. Without pause he walks toward the home, not bothering to turn and see if you’d follow. You do, of course. There’s no reason for you to try and run away now, you’re deep enough in the woods that you’d lose your sense of direction and end up lost. The smell of something sweet glides through the low breeze. Cinnamon-like. Wooyoung enters through the front doors, glancing around before turning down a hallway.
“No one’s around,” he murmurs, glancing back at you. “Seonghwa should be here soon though, he’s not out with the others.”
You pass by an open kitchen. Everything is neat and tidy, table set with lavish flatware and utensils. As you squint, you’re sure it’s made out of some type of gemstone. He continues down the hall.
“He’ll be going to his library first, so we should wait there.”
You stick closer to him now, carefully maneuvering so that your shoes don’t stumble over loose vines moving in and out of the hardwood. The doors down this hallway are closed, locks hanging from the knobs. You don’t say a word but he seems to notice your expression, grinning.
“Unseelie are quite forgetful when it comes to locks. We’ve locked ourselves out enough from places around here that we thought it best to just leave the keys in the knob.”
“None of you are afraid of an intruder?”
He chuckles, “No one would dare enter without our permission, solaris. That’s just a death wish.”
He opens the doors at the end of the hall, beckoning you inside and closing the door behind the two of you. The room is enormous, stories high shelving, endless literature surrounding you. Some titles you recognize from your own bookstore, others unfamiliar. There’s a lot in languages you cannot begin to understand or recognize. It seems endless as your eyes roam. Your stomach twists. Soobin would have loved to see this for himself.
“Ah, he must have cleaned up,” Wooyoung murmurs. “Wonder if he saw the mess Jongho left.”
You walk around slowly, careful not to disturb anything. “How many of you live here?”
“Why? Want a room?” Wooyoung sits on the edge of a table, legs swinging. “I don’t mind it.”
“Just want to know what I’m dealing with,” you frown.
“Hm,” he stretches his fingers, counting beneath his breath, “One, two… Eight. Including me.”
Eight Unseelies. And that's just the amount that live near your home. You can only imagine how many roam the streets, disguised as humans. Dwelling among you. You called the townspeople silly for believing in such superstitions. Now they would just laugh in your face if they knew the truth.
"The people missing…?" You trail off.
Wooyoung doesn't respond to your inquiry. He's moved towards a desk, flipping through the pages in silence. You almost repeat it until he turns to you, eyes flicking between yours.
"We simply ask for a dance. It's their decision on whether they'd like to take our hand. You are your own maker. It's more fun that way.”
A chill passes over you.
He balances a flask between his fingers, humming an unfamiliar tune. Allowing him to drag you through the forbidden Rowan trees into their home is not exactly what you planned, but is there any other choice? Figuring out what he is, what they are, is another point added to your list. There’s just no plan after it. So what if they’re Unseelie? The townsfolk would rather sacrifice you than their own family members. And you can’t blame them. They’ve already blamed the disappearances on you. This will only be something else added to their endless list of hating you.
"You scare me."
Wooyoung looks at you, eyes seemingly somewhere else entirely. "A wise choice."
The door slides open, familiar hands gripping the panel before sliding it back. His eyes slide over to Wooyoung, before looking at you. He lets out the loudest sound you’ve heard from him, groans bouncing against the walls. It’s a bit surprising to see him in such fancy wear, close to what he wore when you first met. His fingers gently rub his temples, obscenities mumbled under his breath.
“You’re just getting worse by every moment,” he murmurs, shaking his head. “If I were Hongjoong you would have been thrown to the Seelie by now.”
“You wouldn’t!” Wooyoung gasps. It’s very much exaggerated, eyes wide. The moment that just passed between the two of you long gone.
“I would. Fortunate for you that I cannot,” he barely glances at you. “You’d follow a stranger into the woods? Have you not listened to any of the words I’ve said?” His tone is harsher than before, formerly kind eyes filled with mire. It was quite silly of you to think that for a second he actually did enjoy your presence. Unseelie are the way they are. He is no different than the rest.
“I had no choice, he threatened the town.”
Seonghwa rolls his eyes, “Of course he did. Why do you even care for a town that doesn’t care for you?”
“Why am I even here?” you say. Seonghwa does not bother to reply to you, fingers gracing one of the leather bound books. He walks past the two of you, lounging in the chair in the farthest corner.
“Hello?”
“Seonghwa wants to experiment on you,” Wooyoung shrugs. “Each attempt that he’s tried to use his abilities on you has faltered. It’s like you’re immune to it. That’s why he’s been spending so much time with you, learning the way you work, your habits and schedules. To see if there’s some explanation for your resistance. Unfortunately he hasn’t found a lead yet. So, I decided to bring you here to see if any of the others can penetrate that strong will of yours, and for him to continue to conduct his research.”
"You're joking."
Wooyoung shakes his head. "Not in the slightest."
You grab your bag, ignoring the pleading eyes Wooyoung attempts to send you. He steps in your way and you only slide beneath his outstretched arms, leaving the room all together. Wooyoung turns around to catch Seonghwa's gaze, pout burned into his lips. Said man still doesn't look up from his book. Of course, Wooyoung could have stopped you if he truly wanted to. An Unseelie versus a human is an easy match. But his mate likes the theatrics of it all, so Seonghwa sinks further into his seat, frames resting on the tip of his nose. It's for show – none of the Unseelie have bad eyesight.
Wooyoung slumps over, knees hitting the mossy floors. "Hyung, please," he whines.
"Typical Wooyoung. Only respecting me when he needs something," Seonghwa murmurs, flipping a page. "Go after her, I'm not your babysitter. Preferably sooner rather than later, unless you want Jongho or Mingi to stumble across a human in our home."
"You're supposed to help me."
"Your mess, not mine," he points out. "Why do you expect me to clean it up? Do it yourself."
"What will you do if they think she's food?"
Seonghwa shrugs. “They know who she is already.”
"Your experiment!"
Seonghwa pauses in his reading for a moment, looking up. He does want to see what exactly is different about you. A clan member taking your life before it happens isn't what he wants. But he's grown tired of fixing things that aren't his problem. Especially one as monumental as this. He gets up, pushing past his grinning mate and exiting the room. It isn't hard to trace your tracks, your heartbeat louder than anyone else's in this home. He just hopes that he gets to you first.
Walking through the home is easy and straightforward. You don't bother glancing to the side, previously closed doors ajar casting fear in your heart. Wooyoung so easily lets his words flow, telling you that Seonghwa planned on experimenting, perhaps even dissecting you. All of it is too much, too soon. Too overwhelming for you to comprehend without losing your mind. You step out the front doors, suddenly stopping.
Wooyoung warned you of stepping through without holding his hand. Is that danger gone, or do you still have to worry? Are you forced to stay here against your will?
You should never have gone to that silly bonfire.
"You'll die if you leave without our permission."
You turn, Seonghwa standing there. His hands are tucked in the pocket of his cardigan, glancing over your shoulder. "We never leave it open. A few more yards and you'd be vaporized."
"Wouldn't you enjoy that?"
His lip quips, "Wooyoung told you that I wanted to experiment on you. It would be difficult to achieve that if you're only dust in the wind."
The change of personalities is still difficult to grasp.
"Then what do you propose?" You say.
"Stay longer. I'll let you go after I've tried a few things. None of it involves seriously injuring you. It's just blood sampling and majik tests. Should be no more than an hour. Once that is complete I will do further tests, but that will be in a few days."
"... and then you will let me go?"
He nods, "I have no reason for you to stay. You're not a real burden to us since no other faeries are around. As of now you’re no threat."
The alarms are blaring in your head as you stare at him, fidgeting with the hem of your sweater. His words aren't enough to convince you, but you have little choice. You need one of them to help you leave. And you're positive they wouldn't until you let Seonghwa do whatever he needs to test and see why you're resistant to them. There's nothing else to debate or dwell on. The front porch creaks, Wooyoung leaning against the doorframe, arms crossed. The same smug look on his face.
"Pretty," Yunho whispers to himself, sitting on the edge of the roof. He leans forward, dust and leaves from the tiles cascading down to the ground. It's as if in slow motion, your gaze flicking to the fallen leaves. Surprisingly, you don't look up to see where they've come from. Instead, you catch one between your fingers. Examining it for a brief moment you tuck it in your pocket, following Seonghwa into their home. Yunho almost slips as he follows your movements, flustered. He sighs, pressing his hands against his cheeks. They're quite warm despite the drop in degrees tonight.
Too pretty, he thinks. Humans aren't this pretty. The others said you weren't a faerie, but were you something else? He lets his thoughts linger, until the loud stomping of Mingi's feet distract him. He glances back, his friend sitting to the right of him. His clothing is freshly pressed. No evidence of tonight's events covering him.
"You're getting distracted already," Mingi points out, the front door closing behind you and Seonghwa. "This isn't something to attach yourself to, Yunho. An experiment and nothing else."
Yunho rolls his eyes, "I know I know, and I'm not getting distracted. She's just a human." He narrows his eyes. Right.
You're just a human.
"Arm."
Wooyoung’s eyes widen as he stands there, almost perturbed at the thought. “Pardon?”
Seonghwa rolls his eyes, “I need a baseline for the testing. Having your blood is necessary to see the differences and compare.”
“I don’t want to be used in your experiments on her!” Wooyoung’s voice rises, glancing at you. “Sorry.”
“No need,” you shrug. Your arm is wrapped, Seonghwa already pricked you with the small needle. Bottles of your blood sit on the side, labeled with symbols you recognize from Unseelie literature scattered about. He didn’t say anything to you as he took it from you, passed you a sugary drink and a cookie. It would have been endearing if he didn’t look so frustrated while doing it. You debated on calling him out at the look but again, you’d rather not irritate a being you know nothing of. The Seonghwa you’ve met is gone. Replaced with this angry and quite bitter Unseelie.
“Why do you make everything so difficult,” Seonghwa rubs his forehead. “Why are you even standing there if you’re not willing to help-”
“I’ll volunteer.”
Another voice enters the conversation, your gaze moving to the man who just entered the room. He’s taller than Seonghwa, quite tall actually. His face is kind, brown eyes filled with glee as they look at you. Unlike Wooyoung’s teasing which seems a bit unnerving at times, his look is easy. As if his lips naturally sit in a small smile. He lifts his sleeve, stepping around Wooyoung.
“Nice to finally see the shining star. I’m Yunho,” he holds out his hand and you take it. You can’t help but notice how despite how you always insisted that your hands are pretty big, he just engulfs yours.
“Hi. I’m y/n.”
He laughs softly, “That I know.”
Wooyoung’s voice rises. “Wait-”
“We don’t have time for the back and forth with you,” Seonghwa murmurs, beckoning Yunho closer. “Next time just say you’re okay with it and move on.”
Wooyoung’s frown only seems to deepen. He huffs, glancing between all of you before exiting the room. The door slams quite loudly, unable to stop yourself from flinching.
“It’ll be quick, you already know what to do,” Seonghwa says. Without another word he slides the needle into Yunho’s skin. You notice that his blood is clear, a thicker consistency than yours. Seonghwa pulls out several vials of it, the silence growing. Just as quick as he began it’s over. He grabs the vials, glancing between the two of you. “I’ll be back in a moment, talk amongst yourselves.” He walks off, murmuring something about refrigeration.
Yunho’s gaze easily slides over to yours. “I’m sorry about Wooyoung. He gets a bit antsy when it comes to things like this. We are wary of sharing their blood.”
“Can I ask why?”
He nods. “You might know a bit about us already from interacting, but when it comes to our essence it is sacred. Faeries are sensitive to blood exchanges because it is only something you do with a fae you are mated to. The majority of us would never willingly give up our blood for something like this. That’s why Seonghwa didn’t offer himself, and why Wooyoung was so flabbergasted at the thought of your blood mixing with his. It’s a quite sensitive topic.”
“And yet…” You trail off. And yet you did it without a second thought.
“Mhm,” he agrees, still staring at you. “The others think you’re special. So I would love to have the honor to be the baseline for the experimentation,” he chuckles, sliding his sleeve back down. “Seonghwa isn’t coming back, by the way. He’s told me to guide you out the forest and back to your home.”
Trying to decipher the wording is too much for your tired mind to comprehend right now.
“Demanifestation again?” Your stomach lurches at the thought. You’re not sure you’d survive it a second time.
Yunho shakes his head quickly. “Never. Wooyoung is a fool to have done that to you. We’ll be traveling on foot. Your home isn’t too far away from where we reside. I just need to help you through the barrier.”
You agree, standing slowly. Yunho reaches out his arm and you take it, thanking him softly. The hallways are quiet as you walk through, glancing at him. You can see his gaze glued to one of the doors you pass by, giving you a quick smile as he picks up the pace. You exit their home, and he does the same as Wooyoung did. The forest warps, the home disappearing behind you.
“You can continue to walk straight. The forest will guide you home,” he says softly, bowing. “I wish I could accompany you, but some Unseelie has been making a bit of a mess in our home and I need to fix it before Hongjoong comes.”
Hongjoong. You’ve heard the name a few times. Enough so that you can guess he’s their leader of sorts. But you’ve involved yourself enough. “Thanks for helping me. Straight you said?”
He nods, “Straight. See you soon, y/n.” He turns on his heels, dissipating into the forest. You can only imagine what the town would say if you told them of this encounter. Staring at the spot he once was, you turn back around, walking straight.
-
Yunho winces at the noise, shutting the front door. All of the doors of the home are open, various items thrown carelessly on the hardwood floor. He notices that the door to the library is shut. Seonghwa has had enough of it, it appears. Yunho does not blame him in the slightest. He steps over the broken vases and torn books, head aching already.
“What an incompetent Unseelie. Thriving in chaos does not mean we want it all over our floors,” Seonghwa’s voice echoes through the hallway. Ah, perhaps he is trying to deal with it now?
Yunho steps around the corner, entering Wooyoung’s room. It’s in a dire state, clothing and potion spilled, sheets ripped in half. Just as Yunho steps through the threshold, he’s thrown against the wall. Wooyoung’s hand wraps around his neck, his claw digging into Yunho’s skin. It doesn’t hurt, no, but it is a bit uncomfortable.
“What’s the reason?” he says through struggling breaths. He pulls his hand off with ease, coughing. “Shit.”
“You are always there, always stealing things from me. Could you not rest? Why in every lifetime do you have to take her away from me?” His voice cracks at the end. Yunho’s brow furrows at his words, confusion mounting. “It is always you, everytime. You always ruin my fun.”
“You’re acting like a child because I willingly exchanged blood with the human?” Yunho scoffs. “You shouldn’t have made it such a pressing issue if you wanted to do it.”
“You…” Wooyoung points his hand at him, slowly dropping it. “Give me a chance this time. Don’t steal her from me again.”
“We’ve just met this woman, Wooyoung,” Yunho says. “She is not anyone else.”
His eyes narrow, “You know what I mean.”
The front door slams loudly. Yunho closes his eyes, knowing his headache will only grow once Hongjoong enters the room. He looks at Wooyoung, blinding slowly. “You can do whatever you want with her, I don’t care. The blood exchange is complete now. You’ll have to find another way to bond with her. Figure it out yourself,” he steps out the way, feeling the wrath of his leader just behind him. Hongjoong gives him a look and he does not bother saying anything else, leaving the room.
The door cracks against the frame as it shuts.
--
It’s been a few days since you’ve heard from the Unseelie. You’ve been on edge all the while, tensing everytime the bell rings against the door. Only your fellow townsfolk have entered your shop now, picking up essentials and other things they need. The talk about Soobin has significantly decreased, much to your surprise. You expected for the talk to continue until the end of time. Or maybe they’re just not saying it to your face this time. You still look at your phone every time it rings, hoping to see an unknown number. You answer every time, waiting for the soft voice of Soobin on the opposite side. Instead it’s mostly robocalls. The sinking feeling has not gone away when it comes to him.
Why would he leave you?
The bell rings, and you barely glance at the door. You turn around to place a book on the shelf, dropping the one you have in your hand. He catches it with two fingers, holding it out to you. Taking a step back, you take it from him.
Wooyoung’s barely a foot in front of you, hands tucked in his pockets. He grins, brows wiggling. “Long time no see, solaris.”
He’s wearing casual clothing quite similar to Seonghwa’s wear. Instinctively, you glance down at his feet. He wears shoes this time. In fact, you’re sure you’ve seen Seonghwa wear the exact same outfit. He catches your eye, slipping from the aisle and standing in the middle of the store.
“You like?” he asks, spinning in a circle quickly. “I dressed Seonghwa in my clothes whenever he visited you. He only had those strange trench coats. Stuck out like a sore thumb.” He does the same, thumb in the air for emphasis.
You place your book on the shelf, not sure what to say to him. “Didn’t expect to see you,” you admit. “I thought Yunho or Seonghwa would come around again.”
“Seonghwa won’t dare enter human owned land again after his brief experience,” Wooyoung says. “He hates it. And Yunho isn’t really permitted to leave our land unless he’s given explicit permission. Me on the other hand,” he tilts his head. “I allow myself to enter whenever and wherever I’d like.”
They seem more restricted than you previously thought, minus Wooyoung. How he’s roaming around while - even as briefly as you’ve met him - Yunho not being able to, is a bit strange. The difference in temperament is noticeable. You saw how Seonghwa physically relaxed while taking blood from Yunho. The friendly giant feels more human-like than Wooyoung ever did.
“Why are you here?” You ask, pushing your cart into the next aisle. “Does Seonghwa need me for something?”
“Can’t I just come and visit you, solaris? Is that such a crazy idea?”
“Crazy no. Weird, yes.” You glance at him, eye twitching when you see his leg resting on the loveseat. “You act like you haven’t been around us in thousands of years. I can’t see why you’d want to hang out in a bookstore when there’s so many places in town to go to.”
“The bookstore is the only place that has the sun,” he shrugs.
“You say even stranger things,” you murmur. “And would you stop calling me that?”
“No,” he says immediately.
All you can do is sigh, continuing to place books on your shelves. Wooyoung interrupts you every now and then, either poking fun at you, or telling you another fact about them. Apparently, they’re the only group of Unseelie in town. Unseelie are rare in the faerie species, most eradicated by Seelie. He states the fact with a bit of a somber look in his eyes.
“There were thousands of us at one point,” he explains. “Then the Great War happened. Years ago, so far beyond your comprehension. So many of us fought to the death to survive. The hatred for each other runs quite deep. Most of the time when we stumble upon each other it ends in death. Now that our numbers have dropped so low - we’re not even sure how many of us are left now. Our species of faerie is dying.”
“Is that why Seonghwa is persistent in finding out why I am the way I am?” You ask, and he nods.
“If humans are developing resistance to our abilities, we will die. And not just Unseelie. Faeries as a whole thrive off of human auras. Having that removed from our societies will be detrimental. Mermaids, Seelie, Cave dwellers, Unseelie - so many of us will be gone. If there is a way to prevent that from happening we would do anything for it. But,” he shrugs. “None of us are majikians. Majik can only take us so far. Even if we find a cure, we’re in a new world. Humans will eventually discover us in masses. There will be a war, that I know of. Then Unseelie will be completely eradicated. We will be nothing.”
He twists his body to look at you. “That is why you are my solaris. My sun. You are capable of bringing us life and prosperity. You are also capable of destroying everything we have ever known. Right now you shine brightly. Let us hope that you continue to.”
“I didn’t know this was so important.” Is all that you say.
“Would you have if I didn’t just tell you?” his brow raises. “I’m not here to convince you either way. You would have to come with me whether you’d prefer it or not. It’s just nice to give you some background,” he gets up from his seat, moving around the shop. “It’s quaint here. Small town places always make me feel warm inside.”
The sudden shift of conversation is something you should get used to around them. “Soobin designed it that way. He’s been wanting this place for a while. It’s his home.”
“Soobin is your partner,” he states. Your back is turned, so you don’t see the shift in his expression. How terrifying it would be to see the ghost of a grin on his lips. “He’s not around anymore.”
You take his statements as questions. “Yeah, he is. Well, was. We had a disagreement and…” You stop in your talking. “You should know already, I’m sure Seonghwa told you about it.”
“He did, I just like hearing you talk. It’s much more soothing than his irritated, quick words everytime he speaks to me,” he murmurs. “Why aren’t you afraid?” he asks after a moment.
“Hm?”
“Before,” he slowly walks up to the opposite side of the counter, sitting on the stool. “You were afraid of me when I showed up. I heard your heart beating against your chest, but it’s silent now,” he raises a brow. “What changed?”
“You said I was in no danger with you,” you say, and he nods, waiting for you to continue. “I didn’t see a reason to continue to be scared, so …”
“That is perfect then,” he smiles, resting his head against his palm. “I’m glad you feel that way. I don’t want you to be afraid of me anymore-” He stops, turning around. This time your heart does rattle against your chest. His teasing is gone, sliding off the chair. The door swings open, bell ringing. You cannot see the door from where you are, the opposite side of the store covered by the wide shelves. Not skipping a beat, Wooyoung turns to you.
“Hide. Now.”
You immediately turn, heading to the back office. Despite how much you want to turn around and look, you don’t. You hear a loud crash, the sound echoing through you. Your back office door is open and you enter, shutting it and locking it behind you. There aren't many places to hide in this room, except for exiting the store through the door. Hearing Wooyoung’s words in your head, it wouldn’t be safe for you to just leave. But there’s people out there. It’s evening. Whatever is here wouldn’t attack out in the open, right? Taking the chance, you swing the door open.
The figure standing there is terrifying enough to make you halt your escape. Its claws grip your throat, pushing you back against the back wall as it enters. Wide, golden streaks dripped down its pale body, several limbs severed and dragging along the floor behind it. Its touch is cold, nails sinking into your skin. You can’t say a word even if you wanted to, fear unlike anything you’ve ever experienced sinking into you. Its mouth opens, rows of jagged teeth lining its jaw, stench horrid.
“I’ve been looking everywhere for you,” it hisses. Its finger slips, ripping your skin even more. You cry, hands gripping the one on your neck. It leans forward. You cannot tell whether it’s looking at you or not, holes where eyes would usually be.
“This is what they were floundering over. This is what the Unseelie are concerned about,” It spat, “Weak just like the other filthy humans.”
Its mouth stretches, the hole large enough to swallow you whole. Tears roll down your cheeks. You feel its spit drip against your forehead. Just as you have accepted your fate, you’re thrown out of the creature’s hand, body slammed against the floors.
“Repulsive.” Yunho holds the creature against the far wall, face twisted in disgust. The look is unfamiliar to you, already used to the warm gaze he shot you. He grips its neck, twisting it harshly to the side. The sound of bone and flesh being torn apart fills the air. It’s enough to make you look away. The distraction is gone, pain increasing rapidly as you look down at your injuries.
“Yunho shouldn’t be here,” Another voice appears. Seonghwa looks around the room, eyes immediately roaming over your figure. “Hell.” His body is soaked in what you can only assume is blood, immediately crouching down over you. “Think you can stand?”
You nod. You rest your hands on either side of your body, muscles straining to lift yourself up. Seonghwa merely sighs, reaching out an arm and pulling you up with ease. You stumble, pressing yourself against his chest. He doesn’t say anything more, lifting you into his arms. Your eyes roam behind him, Yunho’s face unrecognizable as he rips the being apart. Wooyoung must have entered without your knowledge, pulling his friend off the creature.
“Relax Yunho – it’s in ruins now. You don’t have to continue.” He pulls on Yunho’s arm again, this time thrown back against the floor at his attempt. Yunho does not bother turning around, continuing to rip into the thing.
“Fuck off, Wooyoung.”
“Time to get Mingi,” he sighs, glancing back at you. His brows contort in worry, “Oh my solaris, it stole your shine.”
“Get him under control enough, Mingi should be arriving soon,” Seonghwa helps you through the door, easily carrying you. You notice townspeople walking, none bothering to glance your way. Too tired to question it, your body slumps in his arms.
“The Seelie almost tore you apart,” he starts, waiting for a car to pass before crossing the street. “Wooyoung called for us just in time. Ah, your neck,” he winces as he looks at it. He lifts a hand and lightly touches your skin, mumbling words underneath his breath. “That should seal it up enough. We’re almost there.”
Your mind is too clouded with the events to give him a response. He takes it in stride, stepping into the forest. You aren’t sure how long it has taken to get to their home, but you see the familiar woods, trees gathered around the house that sits in between. He says something to another in passing, stepping into the library and shutting the door behind him. Seonghwa places you in a seat.
His hand lightly touches your temple, exhaustion slowly fading away. You blink quickly, glancing around. The room is lined with glass, contents unknown. He turns around to grab a small case, finger dragging across the surface. Inside are several bandages and other first-aid kit items. You want to thank him but your mouth is dry. Only a small wheeze escapes your lips. He glances back at you, wiggling his pointer finger.
“It is a binding spell. No words can escape until I let it be so. The claws of that Seelie dug in deep. If you speak, it may only worsen your condition.”
He rests on one knee, humming to himself. The jar he has in his hand is written in unknown scripture. He picks up the ointment with two fingers, slowly brushing it against your skin. “This is toad puss. Disgusting name and scent, but it will seal your wound much quicker than ordinary human antibiotics. Ah,” he glances behind you. “Took you long enough to arrive.”
You cannot twist your neck, moreso out of fear of tearing your skin. Wooyoung appears beside Seonghwa, glancing over your wounds. “The Seelie almost shredded her. I looked around the bookstore as I cleaned up but there was no sign of any carvings. There’s nothing on her body either. I’m not sure why they came or how they found her. ”
“Us, silly,” Seonghwa rolls his eyes. He grabs the gauze, slowly wrapping it around your neck. “One of the Seelie found out that we knew of a human like her. They followed one of us, or both of us, and located where she resides. Though I don’t know for sure if they followed you today and or followed me weeks ago. It doesn’t matter, anyway. Her bookstore is compromised.”
“Then what do we do?” Wooyoung asks, eyes still on yours.
“We talk to Hongjoong.”
You can see how his body deflates immediately. “But –”
“He’ll be furious, yes, but we need to tell him that the Seelie are back. And what steps we take from there. Actually, I think I heard him rummaging around his room. After I get her fixed up, I’ll go speak to him. I’m sure he’s already listening in on our conversation anyway.”
Wooyoung doesn’t say anything else, but you can see how Seonghwa’s words weigh heavy on him. You wish you could speak up for yourself. Your mind is leaning towards yelling at them for putting you in this mess in the first place. Wooyoung leaves without another word, the tap of the door closing behind him.
“What a mess,” Seonghwa sighs. He looks at you, humming again. “You are probably furious right now, aren’t you?”
You nod, and he merely laughs.
"Well you might as well get used to it. No such thing as happy endings for demonic creatures like us. Unfortunately for you, you’re now associated," he rips off the gauze wrapping with his teeth, spitting flyaway pieces to the side. His fingers slowly lift your leg. His touch is soft in comparison to his words, glancing at your face for any signs of discomfort. Not seeing one, he continues. "We Unseelie exist to balance the universe. We are not inherently evil, no. But our mere presence is distasteful, disastrous. We cannot feed without hurting humans, we cannot survive without interfering in your lives. We breathe chaos. It is all we've known and all we'll ever know – oh, did that hurt?" His voice is soft for a brief moment, seeing your brow furrow at his pressure. "Tight?"
You don’t say anything. His eyes widen for a moment, fingers brushing against a sliver of skin peeking out from the bandages on your neck. “Apologies. I was wondering why you remained so quiet.”
Your voice escapes you, quite low. "I’m fine."
He narrows his eyes but continues, much slower this time. You're not sure where this conversation stems from, but you don't dare interrupt. It's the most any of them have spoken to you about their kind. "It's not like a human would understand that it's natural for us. We enjoy killing because it is in our nature. We cannot live without it. It's a shame, really. So many Unseelie have tried to pull away, tried to stop killing. But all attempts have failed. Each one has died in the process. It is like if humans decided to stop feeding on plants and meat and decided to eat air instead. It won't work. It's unsustainable."
"I understand."
He pauses. "No, you don't. Not really."
You clear your throat. "Who are we to tell you what to do? We've considered ourselves the top of the food chain for so long, we can't think of something stronger or faster or wiser than us. What am I to do? Kill off every faerie I see?"
He nods. "That's what many human hunters have done. What many have decided to do over centuries."
"But not me."
His eyes flick between yours, expression unreadable. You don't bother to fill the silence and neither does he, hooking the gauze together with a small metal clip. You think the conversation is over, until he speaks up again.
"You are a strange one. It is of no wonder so many of us admire you."
“What –”
"It is funny what humans think of us,” he interrupts, not allowing you to comment though you desperately want to. “There is no good versus evil. Despite how much we hate the rigidness of the Seelie, they are faeries just like us. But they are not innately good just as we are not innately evil. If the world was that simple, we would have been eradicated long ago," Seonghwa muses. "Us Unseelie value chaos, sacrifice. We fight for our positions when necessary, and enjoy power. Though we all dislike humans, perhaps hate in some cases, we do welcome you. Even if it is temporary. Just because we live in forestry hills does not mean our heads are filled with dirt."
"Do you like me then?"
He grins. "I enjoy you as an experiment if that would make you feel a bit better."
"Ecstatic," you murmur.
"Well you know we cannot lie, so it must give you some reprieve. Unfortunately for us, you can lie," his eyes narrow. "What is your ex-partner's name again? Soobin?"
You say nothing. Allowing him into your head, letting him question you – it is exactly what you should not do when meeting a faerie.
"Ignoring my words?"
"You should know why I am."
He narrows his gaze, "Filthy humans and their silly rules."
"They keep us safe."
"They ruin the fun we have,” he sighs. “I can’t have you back at that bookstore, or your home,” Seonghwa stands, fingers dragging through his hair. “It’s no longer safe for you. You’ll have to stay with us for now.”
You want to debate with him, want to say that you’d rather tough it out and deal with it on your own. But you cannot forget how utterly terrified you were when that Seelie attacked. How you froze. If they weren’t there, you would’ve been long gone by now. Your family would mourn your disappearance, desperate for answers that you wouldn’t have been able to give them. Perhaps wondered if you left with Soobin, wherever he went.
It’s not something you’d ever want.
“Okay.”
He nods. “Okay then.”
He stands, about to leave. "Seonghwa."
He turns around.
"Before, Wooyoung was telling me how you would never enter the human owned land again because you despised it. But you did today. Why is that?"
A strange look crosses his face. "Wooyoung told you such words?"
You nod. "He did."
A breathy laugh follows suit, "That seems like something he would do. I'll set up your temporary room and be back." Seonghwa doesn't say another word, exiting the room. His avoidance of the question only creates more confusion.
-
“You are all making a fuss for a human you don’t even know. Curiosity can only stretch so far. What else are you going to do? Sacrifice yourselves so that she can live? This is more than silly. It’s stupid.”
Hongjoong paces back and forth in the library, Seonghwa flipping through several documents to see if there is any solution to what’s happening now. If he can find some semblance of an answer, perhaps she wouldn’t have to stay at all. But as of now he has found nothing of consequence. Nothing to stop the Seelie from coming after you.
“If the Seelie are after her and want to kill her, then there’s something there. Why give up now?” Seonghwa says, barely looking up from his literature. “It doesn’t have to involve you if you don’t want it to. We can keep her away from this side of the house.”
“That’s not my point and you're more than the wiser to understand that."
“Then what is?”
“You are undermining me,” Hongjoong’s eyes narrow. “You all made me the leader of our spark. And it is my duty to protect us all from harm. Ever since this human has come around, things have been happening. You should have just killed it when you first stumbled across it. And now Yunho is all out of sorts and Mingi has to watch him. Seelie have emerged again. None of this is okay.”
Seonghwa merely rolls his eyes. “We are Unseelie, we’re trained for this.”
Hongjoong stops pacing, shaking his head. “We are very few in number, Seonghwa. We cannot risk our extinction. Not for a useless human. Once the news has spread that you three have killed Seelie, there will be war. There is only so much I can protect us from.”
“We can protect ourselves. And it is too late anyway,” Seonghwa says simply. “We killed the Seelie for a reason.”
“You could have let them kill her and we would have had this problem eradicated.”
“No.”
“Why not?” Hongjoong pauses. He stares at his friend, his mate. Seonghwa does not often express his care. Has not for a while. “Unless you care for it?”
Seonghwa frowns. “Stop suggesting silly things.”
“Say you don’t care for it and I’ll believe you.”
Seonghwa stares at him, desperate for the words to escape him. But his true nature prevents him from doing so. He can only hope that Hongjoong does not push the issue further. He’s already dealt with endless pestering today. He thought he'd at least get a bit of reprieve from Hongjoong. Instead he is only being scowled. It's no wonder he actively avoids his presence every chance he gets.
“Say it, Seonghwa.”
“Haven’t we all irked him enough today?” Yunho enters the room, Wooyoung close behind. Not seeing Mingi hanging around is a bit odd, but neither of them mention it. “Pestering him about this is a mute point. We all have to keep an eye on her for now. Until all of this is settled. Maybe we should pick up the talks tomorrow.”
Seonghwa grabs the book he has in his hand and leaves the room, Hongjoong exiting in the opposite direction. Yunho sighs softly, exhaustion riddling his body. He doesn’t acknowledge Wooyoung trailing behind him, lounging on the long sofa. Said Unseelie paces around his resting figure, picking at the skin by his nails.
“I’m not going to hurt her,” Yunho murmurs, one lid opening to look at his friend. “I’m okay now.”
Wooyoung sits in front of him, head pressed against his thigh. Yunho reaches down, fingers massaging Wooyoung’s scalp. It's a common routine. Anytime he's overwhelmed, Yunho hears the soft tapping of his knuckles against his bedroom door. Most times he needs the comfort of their bodies against one another's, breathes mingled in the low light. But this is one of those rare moments that Yunho isn't able to provide such a comfort. His mind is too consumed with thoughts unlike his own. And Wooyoung seems to know it as well, trembling underneath the scratch of Yunho's nails against his scalp.
He lets out a long breath, looking up at his mate. Yunho's eyes look heavy. Exhausted. “It is not her I am worried about right now, Yunho. I shouldn’t have called you.” Wooyoung starts.
“You only thought of the first person on your mind. It’s alright.”
“It should have been Mingi or Jongho first. We all know how these things affect you and I messed up again. Much, much worse than last time.”
Yunho's fingers pause in combing his hair. A horrid reminder. He swallows slowly, pushing those thoughts away.
“Wooyoung,” Yunho shakes his head. “You can’t continue to blame yourself. The past is the past.”
He closes his eyes, lower lip trembling. “You could have lost yourself completely. Yunho, Mingi had to injure you to stop you. I should know what to do when you’re like that, I should be able to stop you–”
"Your presence was enough."
He shakes his head. "The Seelie was barely recognizable. It was a pile of mashed flesh –"
“Hey, stop,” he pulls his fingers from his hair, resting on the bottom of his chin. His strength is barely used as he tilts his head up to look at him. “I’m fine. We’re fine. I can’t tell you to stop thinking about it because I know you and I know you will, but I’m okay, Woo. I’m fine. Please don't let those thoughts burden you. You could not pull me out of it, but it's not your fault. I listened to your call. I decided to come. I could have told one of the others first. It was my choice.”
  "Yun…"
"Mmm," He lets go of his chin, arms opening. Wooyoung wastes no time in sinking into his embrace, chest rising and falling calmly. "I'm okay."
“Are you sure?” His voice is softer this time. His fingers dig deeply into the fabric of his blouse. “Don’t lie to me.”
“Unseelie can’t lie.”
Wooyoung narrows his eyes, Yunho’s warm laugh echoing around the room. “Fine. I am okay, and I’m not lying to you.”
"Promise?" He's persistent, hands cupping Yunho's face. "Promise me?"
"I promise, pretty faerie."
Wooyoung hides himself in the sleeve of Yunho’s shirt. "You're trying to distract me."
"It seems to be working," Yunho teases.
They enjoy each other's silence, Wooyoung lifting his head up again. "I'm sorry for before. For getting angry at you like that. I just let my feelings overtake me and blew up. I'm sorry."
"Already forgiven."
"You shouldn't, though. I hurt you," Wooyoung's eyes roam Yunho's neck. Though he has already healed, the puncture marks of his claws are still scars against his skin. Wooyoung leans up, pressing his lips lightly against the risen skin, Yunho's body trembling beneath the touch. "I hurt you."
"You can't help it."
"But I didn't try to stop myself."
"The human brings out the worst in us, it seems."
Wooyoung laughs, the sound not at all reaching his eyes. He ponders for a moment. "I like her."
Yunho takes his words with hesitance. It's been very apparent since he's seen you that Wooyoung has grown a soft spot for you. Though he can't quite understand how it happened so quickly. The Unseelie has barely spent more than a day with you. "I know."
"I want her to like me too."
"Good luck with that."
He frowns. "She will like me, Yunho."
"I know. You're too easy to like, Wooyoung. She will eventually feel the same as you."
"You think?" he gives Yunho a toothy grin.
"I know."
You sit on the porch, staring out into the night. The breeze is quieter than before, whistling through the branches and leaves. The throbbing pain in your neck has subsided greatly. You can only thank Seonghwa silently, fingers brushing against the gauze tight on your neck. You can still see the way that Seelie looked at you, the ferocity in its eyes. How easily it could have snapped you in half if it truly wanted to. Have you brought this all upon yourself? Letting Seonghwa creep into your life? Was the loneliness too much to bear that you've attached yourself to the next person who was a bit kinder to you? You rub your eyes, chest rising and falling slowly.
"Pathetic," you mumble, tucking your knees close to your chest. Your desperation for a reason why Soobin left you alone led you here. Stuck in a house filled with mythical beings. None of which care for you. You should have just gone home once he disappeared. Maybe then you wouldn't be stuck here. The stinging feeling in your throat burns. You hold it back. You can't cry. Not here. Not around them.
"Thoughts fogging your mind so deeply that you didn't hear me knock?"
You look up, Wooyoung's head peeking out from the overhang on the porch. His hair is wild, flowing in the breeze. He takes your non answer as acceptance of his presence, dropping down from the roof to sit on the railing. He tilts his head as he stares down at you. "You look upset."
"I'm stuck in a place I don't know with people I don't know because creatures I don't know are attacking me for a reason I don't know. So yes, maybe I'm just a little upset about my circumstances."
"You do know why they attacked you," he points out. "They want you dead."
"Reassuring," you give him a half smile. "Thanks for that."
"I'm… I'm not trying to get on your bad side, solaris. I'm trying to make you like me. I want you to be comfortable around me."
"You shouldn't care how I feel about you, Wooyoung. You've already done your job luring me here. Now leave me alone."
His lips frown, sighing softly. "What else can I do to help?"
"Is it not enough that you've trapped me here? I would thank you for saving my life, but you all are the reason those things came after me. I would have lived normally without your meddling. Seonghwa should have…" He should have killed you and gotten it over with.
"You don't mean that." He looks at you with such a pitiful, worried look that for a moment, you believe in his concern. Believe that he actually is upset for you. But you know it's not at all true. You know it's another ploy to make you feel comforted by him, by them. And you're not foolish, no. Unseelie do not care for humans.
They never will.
"I do."
"Solaris–"
"And call me by my name, Wooyoung." You slowly stand up, ignoring his hand reaching out to steady you. "Now goodnight." You slowly limp towards the French doors, shutting them behind you. You stare into his eyes as you turn the lock, shutting the curtains.

----------------
The snow was covering the beaten-up road just as it did every time around this year. Traces of your existence were left via the horse hoof prints now stamped in the fresh layer of white, a physical reminder that you were actually here even though you said you'd never come back unless you were needed for a life or death situation. Sadly, that's exactly why you were here.
Your mother had fallen ill. Not with just some minor cough or sniffle, but chills and a fever that hadn't lessened at all in the past two weeks. Everyone feared the worst for your mother, which left them no other choice but to spread the word until it reached you in the next civilization over from Jackson.
When word about your mother's condition finally reached you, you didn't hesitate to start grabbing your essentials and stuffing them all in a barely usable backpack as you set off on your horse and endured the two-day travel in the harsh winter conditions that only the month of December could bring.
During your journey you barely slept, you barely ate, you barely did anything for yourself because the only thing that you could think about was your mother laid up in bed in the infirmary, a place you had been a time or two with...her.
Of course, you knew it was severely possible you would have to come in contact with the very reason you left Jackson to begin with. That's when the fresh hatred that you felt when you left Jackson started to boil over again.
If Ellie didn't have to be a stupid, idiotic, ill-tempered, non-communicative piece of shit, you could've been near your mother by now. You would've been the first person to know when she was ill and, though you knew it was illogical adrenaline thinking, somehow you kept arguing with yourself that you could've prevented her from getting sick.
Even if it didn't make sense and even if you knew that wasn't necessarily true, you did know that if your ex-girlfriend hadn't driven you out of this town, to begin with, you would be with your mother right this second.
These thoughts swirled around your brain all throughout the journey to Jackson and didn't quit until you stopped at the massive front gates that separated the safe civilization from the outside realm that didn't promise safety or protection from those infected with the cordyceps virus.
Two men stood on guard-same as it always has been even though a few years separated you from the last time you were here. You recognized both of them and they must've as well as they nodded in your direction before pulling the chains that opened one of the gate's massive doors to allow you entry.
Jackson was lit up by string lights and barrels filled with orange fire that lined the main road. It hadn't stirred far away from the Jackson you knew years ago-this brought you comfort and discomfort all swirled into one.
You patted the side of your horse as you swiftly jumped down from the saddle, making your boots crunch against the snow-covered dirt path.
Slowly, your feet moved as your eyes took in everything from the new crack that was set directly down the center of the stone chapel, all the way to the tree that seemed to have grown two feet since the last you saw it. Things had changed, even if it was only slightly, yet everything still felt so familiar and untouched, as if you had only been gone on a month-long journey. Except it had been two years.
Two years ago you were a child. Two years ago the only thing on your mind was how hopelessly in love you were with Ellie. The daydreams were never-ending; you pictured having a house with her, getting married with her, growing old with her-everything was with her.
This was the problem, rather, she was the problem.
You had managed to entangle your life so much in Ellie that you had lost sight of your own hobbies, your own friends, and your own life. So, when you and Ellie had one of the largest fights in your relationship, you ran.
You ran so far and so fast that you didn't give Ellie the slightest chance to protest or apologize. Instead, she began to notice your absence around town until she started asking about you. Nobody else had known of your whereabouts either, except for your mom.
Ellie nodded as your mother spoke of your departure. She wasn't given many details about where you were going and why you were going. All she knew was that you left with your backpack, your horse, and a bow and arrow thrown over your shoulder.
It's funny how things come full circle. Now, two years later, with your backpack, horse, and trusty bow and arrow, you were back in the very place you had tried so desperately to erase from your mind.
But you didn't have time to dwell on this town and that girl-you had your mother who needed you. Thankfully, the infirmary didn't stray too far from the downtown area of Jackson, and before long, you were tying your horse to the post just outside of the main door.
Immediately, you were greeted by an unfamiliar face.
"Can I help you?"
"My mom," you spoke with a racing heart, "my mom is here."
Quickly, the confusion faded from the stranger's face and a look of sadness was quick to replace.
"Oh, oh right. We've been expecting you... she's right over here."
The walk was short yet agonizing as you passed beds, both empty and filled, until you saw the very person who gave you life.
Settled underneath a hand-knitted blanket, your mother laid. Her eyes were sunken, her jaw was sharp and lacking any facial muscle; She looked like a corpse.
You whispered, "mama", as your hand came to lightly brush against the cold skin of her cheek.
—--
You'd sat with your mother for nearly two hours before the night nurse came around and thought it would be best if you headed home and got some rest. She wasn't wrong, yet you still took offense, but begrudgingly went along with her request.
The heavy wooden door swung open with force due to the icy wind that had taken over the state of Wyoming. You felt yourself shiver, but you weren't sure if it was because of your nerves or the cold hitting your face.
"Holding up alright girl?" You said as your hand came to pat along the blanket you had placed on top of your horse before going into the infirmary. "We're heading home now...well, it used to be my home."
With your horse's lead in hand, you walked through the new inch of snow that piled itself on top of the inch you had ridden through hours ago. Setting off on a familiar path to the home you grew up in felt just as mysterious as the fog that was beginning to gradient the dark sky with gray.
"Is that who I think it is?"
The rough, deep voice nearly startled you as you spun around on your heels. It couldn't be...could it?
"Joel?"
Gray hairs stuck to Joel's forehead as he sat high and mighty on the top of his horse. He looked as if he was fresh off of patrol.
"Never thought I would see you around here again. How've you been?"
Your eyes diverted as Joel swung his leg over his horse before his feet met the same graveled-covered snow as you.
"Ah, none of my business anyway," he said once several seconds of silence had passed, "just glad to see again."
Your eyes finally met him as your lips spread into a soft, yet genuine smile.
You muttered, "Nice to see you too Joel", and you meant it with every fiber of your being. Though Ellie had tainted so many things for you, you knew she could never pour a glaze of hate over the one man who you thought to be the closest thing to a father that you'd ever had.
The both of you started walking down the road towards the direction of your home in such a natural state, it felt as if the years you had lived an entirely different life weren't real-as if you had never left. It nearly made you forget about the very reason why you became so close with Joel in the first place...but she would never be hard to forget for you.
"How've you been?"
Joel shrugged, "Same old, same old. Still killing clickers and working on guitars when I can."
"You're still doing patrols?", you asked genuinely. Not that Joel was ancient, but it was clear that he was beginning to show his age.
He chuckled with bright eyes staring straight ahead, "You didn't think a couple years would have me bedridden did ya darlin". His words were spoken with an amusement that had you embarrassed that you'd asked such a crass thing to begin with.
"I'd never imagine anything could keep you bed ridden, Joel."
Joel chuckled and peered over in your direction, "I knew I always liked you."
The both of you turned down another path in silence as your conversation naturally tapered off, thankfully, without a word spoken about Ellie. Joel knew better.
The house you'd grown up in was getting closer and closer - a weight of anxiety began to till up your lungs as your breath started becoming heavy.
What if the second you walked in that door, you'd be met with all those feelings you chose to leave behind in Jackson? What if you weren't as okay as you had been telling yourself? You'd never been so scared of silence and seclusion.
"Here we are," Joel spoke while he watched the way you looked at the home as if it were something repulsive and poisonous. He could sense your uneasy feelings.
"You know, you're always welcome at mine.”
The moment the words left his mouth, Joel nearly regretted the option he gave just by looking at the way your face turned downwards.
Softly, his hand fell to the top of your shoulder as you looked down at you. “I’ll make sure no one comes around and bothers you too.”
You knew exactly who this “no one” was and you were grateful that despite Joel being Ellie’s father, he still knew to reassure you of your emotional safety.
“Think about it. Alright?”
You nod at his words as he smiles in a way that is both sympathetic and kind. He viewed you as fragile- you hated it, but you also knew you weren’t feeling the strongest right now either. Your mother was usually your comfort and with that comfort not being available, Joel and his parental care was exactly what you needed right now.
“Tomorrow.”
Joel nodded, his smile turning up a couple inches more. “I’ll get a room prepared for ya then. It’ll be nice to have some new company..well, not entirely new, but..oh there I go again yapping. You know what I’m saying.”
You nodded with a hint of a laugh, “goodnight Joel. See you tomorrow.”
With that, he turned his back and walked the five extra minutes to his home. Meanwhile, you tucked your beloved horse inside the barn right next to your old home, ensuring it had all of its essentials before you made your way into your old home.
It was identical to how you’d left it. The same photo of you and your mom was framed on the living room wall. And.. ”oh god Mom”, you sighed at the 5x7 framed photo of you and Ellie that was from maybe five or so years ago. Back when everything wasn’t complicated and when you’d never thought that your best friend would be the person to make you leave this town.
You walked around the rest of the home examining various similarities and new items until a massive yawn pried itself out of your jaw. At that, you walked yourself into your old bedroom, which was left untouched, and got into much comfier clothes before slipping under the covers and trying your best to fall asleep.
If only your mind would shut up.
After tossing and turning for god knows how long, you decided getting up and having a reset could prove to be the cure for your momentary insomnia. So, with a heavy and aching head and shoulders, you stood up with a sigh.
As your eyes squinted and glanced around the room, Your eyes landed on a match. The small wooden stick sat between your fingers until it lit up with bright orange light.
The tall candle illuminated the room, giving you a better look at the nostalgic pieces of paper and pictures you’d tapped onto your wall from teenagehood and beyond. It's crazy how time went past, yet in this room, things seemed to keep the world from spinning on its axis.
As you shook the now extinguished match stick, the familiar smell of smoke made you remember something- you had a pre-rolled joint in your bag that you knew would come in handy and look at just how right you were.
After pulling your coat over your shoulders and securing the match box in your pocket, you set off for the front porch.
It was dark and deathly quiet, just how you liked it. The only faint, distant noise you could decipher was the light thump of a bass-heavy tune that you assumed was coming from a busy, Saturday night at the Tipsy Bison. You smiled thinking back to your past nights at the local town bar. So many memories…most of them spent with Ellie and other friends.
Your mom also loved the tipsy bison on any given night. She was often the type to greet everyone with a smile and friendly hello regardless of whether you were her best friend or an acquaintance. God, you missed her.
Before you could get too deep into anxiety and sadness over your mom's health, you decided a joint was in order. You weren’t about to process anything major without some sort of sedative especially when you were sleep deprived and being reminded of past pain nearly everywhere you went in this damn town.
Just as you did with the candle, a match stick was lit and touched to the tip of your pre-roll as you inhaled the smoke slowly…. Damn, did it feel good.
Instantly, you felt your shoulders slump downwards with every inhale you took until your eyes were properly heavy. But there was that music again, and you’d be lying if you said you weren’t intrigued to see if it was still the same old place that, much like your old bedroom, seemed to make time stand still.
Without much thought, you began walking in the direction of the bar you knew and used to love oh so much. You wondered if it still held that barley and wood smell or if they still served Maria’s fresh bread. Oh, and if Seth was still a prick, though, you really already knew the answer to that.
The lights you’d seen hours ago were now hanging above your head like small little halos that almost felt like a shield from the outside world. It felt safe.
Your joint was nearly gone, with maybe a few more puffs left to it, as you continued walking until you were outside of the bustling wooden building. From the outside, the music was much more prevalent, along with the giggles and chatter from the rest of the townsfolk that were tucked inside.
Before you could decide on going inside the establishment or not, a loud group of people came bursting through the front doors. This group looked a little too familiar for your liking.
Dina and Jesse wore matching, drunken smiles as the entire group dove deep into a conversation about something that seemed rather amusing. There were a couple others that you weren’t quick to recognize except for the person to the right of Jesse who nearly made you run to your mother's home at top speed.
Ellie’s presence didn’t catch your eye at first, something you blamed on the substance tucked between your fingers, but when you did put the visual together with all the past memories, it felt like an avalanche. Thankfully, you were able to take her in first before she made eye contact with you.
Her hair was down and a plain colored shirt and army green jacket covered her upper half. She looked good, but you weren’t about to let your mind entertain any other thoughts of her before you turned away and hoped that she would somehow miss your figure in the middle of the walkway. Sadly, your hopes were dashed.
Though you were quick to move your eyes, focus on your feet and the joint you were currently inhaling, you could feel Ellie’s eyes boring a hole into the side of your head as if she were trying to decide if seeing you was real or a hallucination. And who's to say she wasn’t doing exactly that. However, a squealing voice broke both of you out of your objectives.
Your name was yelled from a person in the group whose voice you knew all too well. Your disguise had been recognized and it wasn’t easy for you to ignore it…and some part of you didn’t want to either.
You closed your eyes as you took one last hit, breathed in-then out, and lifted your head.
Dina was barreling towards you with flimsy legs that were much more clumsy than when she was sober. This made you smile somehow, despite the oncoming reunion with your ex that you were dreading.
“Hey Dina”, you said just before her arms enveloped your shoulders in possibly the tightest hug you’ve ever felt.
“What are you doing here?!” She slurred as both of her hands moved to cup both sides of your cheeks. You were both putting on quite a show for the group, especially the ones who, you assumed, had no idea who you were.
“I couldn’t sleep so i thought-”
“No, no! I mean here-In Jackson. What are you doing here?”
Your smile instantly dropped as you thought of your ill-stricken mother who almost looked like a stranger to you. You kicked your feet causing a puff of dust to whirl through the air. “My mom.”
Dina’s glossy eyes remained, but her gleeful expression shifted the instant you said the two words. “God, I'm sorry. Of course, that’s why you’re here.” Her voice trailed off as her hand brushed your upper arm.
“How are you holding up?”
You shrugged and it was honest. “I don’t know. I’m finding it hard to feel anything right now.”
Dina made an understanding nod just as Jesse came into your line of view with arms held open wide.
“Bring it in stranger.”
A familiar smoky, leather scent encircled the both of you as you allowed yourself to fully embrace your old friend. Jesse smelt the same as he always had which brought a comfort that you didn’t know you were in need of.
His large arms squeezed you briefly before pulling his body backward and greeting you with a sympathetic smile.
“Never thought I would see you again.”
You smiled timidly, “I didn’t think I'd see you again either.”
“Not that I'm complaining.”
“Better not be,” you joked as your hand lightly smacked along his coat-covered arm in faux scolding.
Just then, the figure directly behind Jesse cleared their throat in a successful attempt at gaining the group's attention.
Your eyes met hers and it was instant chaos. The best you could do was press your lips together and nod in her direction. The silence between the both of you was pathetic and sad.
“If you feel like it, we’ll be around. Come say hi if you can.” Dina said with a nurturing tone that was trying its best to cover up the obvious tension and awkwardness that Ellie’s close proximity was causing.
Your eyes felt like weights that you had to force away from hers as you pulled eye contact from Ellie and looked toward your friend with a nod. “I’ll try to see you again before I head back home.”
You swore you saw Ellie flinch in the background at the mention of your departure. You tried your best not to care or question.
“One more hug please?” Dina held out her arms- Jesse mimicked her as well.
“You guys are ridiculous”, you teased with a smile as you allowed a group hug between the three of you to seal your interaction for the night.
After the embraces, you were left to watch the group walk off further into the distance as their descent morphed more and more with the darkness of the night. As if she could feel the weight of your glance on her back, Ellie peered over her shoulder and looked straight at you just before the group's bodies became dark. And even though you couldn’t see her, you knew she would’ve been quick to turn herself back around and pretend that you meant nothing to her.
What a good liar she could be to herself and others when she wanted to be.

“Who’s Shiki?”
Gojo Satoru stares, confused as Suguru-who’s-not-Suguru makes a hitched, strangled sort of sound in his throat. He tilts his head –he’s never heard of a ‘Shiki’ before, but going by the other man’s reaction, Shiki was someone important.
Why?
Probably something to do with the differences between our worlds. That much is not particularly difficult to deduce, really. But the reaction of this Geto Suguru from another world to Satoru’s complete lack of recognition to ‘Shiki’ felt strange, somehow, like it was significant in a way he couldn’t quite name–
“… What are you talking about?” The other sorcerer’s voice sounds shaken. “You… you don’t know Shiki? She’s your sister!”
His what.
Satoru’s jaw drops open. “I have a what now?”
A sister? Him? Gojo Satoru is pretty sure that he’s an only child; a sibling sounds like something he would know about!
He’s fantasized about having younger siblings during his childhood, sure. The Gojo Clan was a cold, cold place, and people only ever saw the Honored One and not Satoru. Even his own parents. Gojo Muneyoshi only ever occupied himself with how Satoru’s lessons and training were coming along, and Gojo Sachie only cared for the status that Satoru brought to the family and nothing else. The other children in the clan either avoided him out of awe and fear, or tried to suck up to him. Satoru didn’t make any friends until entering Jujutsu High, and… the less said about that, the better.
(Why was I not enough to make you stay, Suguru?)
If Satoru had a younger sibling –knowing his parents, he doubts that they would pay any attention to them. There was only ever one user of both Limitless and Six Eyes at a time, so they wouldn’t have the same pressure that Satoru carried on his shoulders pressing upon them. The elders wouldn’t watch them as closely as they did Satoru.
If Satoru had a younger sibling, then they would be his. As a child, Satoru had so very badly wanted a friend and confidant and someone who would always, always be with them. It didn’t matter if they were a sorcerer or not. He’d just wanted–
But Gojo Satoru was the only son of Gojo Muneyoshi and Gojo Sachie.
“Gojo Sachie?” Suguru makes a funny sort of twitch. Satoru instantly hones in on that odd reaction. “… So your father remarried?”
Satoru frowns, “Not that I’m aware of, no? I was born to Gojo Muneyoshi and Gojo Sachie. I’m guessing that’s not the case in your world?”
That would explain the existence of a younger sister, at least–
“It’s not,” Suguru confirms. “In my world, you and Shiki were born to Gojo Muneyoshi and Gojo Hina.”
Gojo Hina?
Satoru stills. That name…
There is a shrine that Muneyoshi keeps inside his home. A shrine to Gojo Hina, and Satoru remembers overhearing an argument between his parents once about it –something about Muneyoshi not being able to ‘let go’ of his ‘first love,’ and Satoru had lost all interest in the conversation by that point.
It might be nothing. But…
“As far as I’m aware,” Suguru continues, “Gojo Hina died shortly after you and Shiki were born.”
Okay, that somewhat matches up, then–
–hang on. Satoru does not have a good feeling about where this is headed. “After Shiki and I were born?”
“Well, yes. The two of you are twins.”
Twins.
Twin children. In sorcery clans, twins were a curse. Even though it shouldn’t matter in the case of fraternal twins, but if one child was born the Honored One and the other child wasn’t, if the Gojo Clan refused to take any chances–
Then–
An icy chill runs down Satoru’s spine. It’s been a long time since he’s last felt this way.
Did I have a twin sister?
… The air is cold. It has nothing to do with the weather, or Satoru’s current lack of a jacket in the winter weather.

・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・・
The sun was rising when Abby came back from the corral with a bucket full of fresh milk. A thin fog covered the pasture denouncing a hot day following that cold night, and she already knew you and Ellie would be looking forward to a dive into the lake later. Suzy, the cow from which she milked, was now resting peacefully next to her calf while Abby made her way into the kitchen.
You and Ellie were fast asleep still since that was Abby's day to take the milk. Your limbs entangled with Ellie's in a mess, but comfort reigned on that bed and enveloped you in calm dreams. Abby looked at you both after fixing the milk, the auburn hair of the Williams girl all messy and cute and your adorable pout. She smiled at herself unconsciously, thinking how tranquil your farm were in comparison with the buzzy mornings of Jackson. The community was fine, but nothing compared to that piece of heaven you three had. The days were calm and the chores were shared between you all.
"Morning, sunshine", Abby said when Ellie opened her eyes lazily. Her face was marked by the folds on the pillowcase, and she yawned while pulling you closer.
"Don't keep staring there like a creep, come here", the both of them smiled while the blonde approached the bed.
You squirmed in your, now, light sleep, and soon opened the eyes to see them both next to you. Ellie hid her face on your neck while Abby kissed you face fondly.
"Milk's in the kitchen", she said, a hand going to caress Ellie's arm around you.
"I'm starving", the brunette murmured.
"Let's get up then", you moved slightly, lounging the legs.
"Don't wanna"
"Then starve"
"Goddamn", Abby laughed, followed by you both.
The mood was so cozy and warm, the sun wasn't so bright yet, the chickens were making sounds afar and the air was chill. That was your piece pf heaven.
Sometimes you tried to think what would be of you three if the world wasn't ending. But then realized that the only reason why this was the piece of heaven was the almost-like hell you've been through before. Your parents used to tell you stories about the old world, about music and parties and the fears people had before. They told you about wars and christmas, about ice creams, mathematics and philosophy. It was such a big world and it was all to the ground before you were even born.
Maybe it was impossible to conceptualize that existence in a reality so distant. But, well, it was just the first moments of the morning. You were definitely far too deep into those books you've found.
"C'mon, I'll make us some hearth shaped waffles", you said out loud, getting Ellie's full attention.
"Will you let us eat the cutout edges?"
"What would I do with them, Els?" She kissed your face repeatedly, taking a easy smile from you. On the other side of your face, Abby did the same, finishing with a peck on your lips.
The moment made your heart flutter, and your body suddenly felt so small to contain all the love and excitement them two gave you.
Finally getting out of bed, you and Ellie went to the bathroom before meeting Abby in the kitchen picking up the stuff to make breakfast. She placed it all in the island carefully and all you could think about was how delicate she could be all the time.
Most people get intimidated by her size, but Abigail is one of the most careful woman on the planet most of the times - if she needs to beat you, that's another story. Her hands would travel along your skin lightly while you're laying on the couch listening to the radio, crickets and tree tops whispering from outside, enveloping you in a tranquil time. When she casually puts one of Ellie's hair strands behind her ear, it exhales delicacy and tenderness.
"Thank you, love", you say while pecking her biceps.
Ellie puts coffee on the stove for both you and Abby and then grabs juice from the refrigerator for herself.
"Who's shaving the sheeps today?" Williams ask, sitting on the kitchen isle.
"You", Abby is kick to answer.
"I'm getting the vegetables" you add. "And Abby is cutting wood"
"Oh man, I thought I would cut the wood today", her pout is adorable as she laments, earning a peck from the blonde.
"That's tomorrow, you dork"
You were prepping the waffles and fixing the strawberry syrup, satisfied with the sweet smell running around the kitchen, even with the small window open. You notice a wild cat running outside, trying to catch some insect in the field.
"Hey, isn't that the same cat from last time?"
"Really?!" Ellie almost jump, coming to look outside. "Should we keep it?"
"You don't even know if it wants to stay with us", Abby laughs.
"Who wouldn't want to stay with us?"
"Sometimes I reconsider my decisions", you chuckle with these words coming from the blonde.
As they eat the cutouts, you place the same amount of waffles to each one and then put the syrup on the table. Ellie takes the coffee and mugs, Abby gets the bread and what is left of the chicken.
The breakfast goes calming, comfortable after Ellie puts some disco to play from the living room. You and her mumble the song as Abby stays silent, enjoying the presence and the energy surrounding the place. It's a beautiful day to walk around and maybe go swimming on the lake nearby a little, as the area is always clear due to Jackson's patrols. You three also go out in some runs, just to make sure, and the last time you found an infected it was alone.
"Okay, I wanna finish it soon, so let's not waist any time, ladies", you announce as soon as you finish.
"Wanna go swimming later?"
"Only after the chores"
"I bet a boob I'll finish it first!" Ellie collects the plates, smirking even though she has the longest chore for the day.
"You bet. With these babies, the wood will be cut in no time", Anderson flexes her arms, making you roll your eyes. It would never be boring with them both around.
"I just wanna get the vegetables"
And so the day starts.
You change clothes to a more appropriate to the soil environment, putting a cloth on your head to hold the sweat you know will come drip down your face. The boots come later, dirty from all the external use. You put a sunglass you found on a old Jackson patrol and get the basket and the gloves from the back porch.
The garden looks beautiful. Vibrant green pops from the healthy soil, you recognize it after working so much on the thing back in Jackson. A smile takes place in your face as you go collect the vegetables, carefully walking through the plants to later kneel between them.
Ellie is good with the sheeps. She talks to them, calling by their names - you never knew how she could tell them one from another, and somehow Abby could do it too. Only some wildly different you could keep in mind. But Ellie was always making jokes and petting them, hugging the animals after shaving them and saying how much of a good work they did.
"That's it, Madam Olivia, you're so brave!", she murmurs, kissing the sheep on the forehead before letting it go. "Sir Callahan, you're next! No, you're not running away from me this time, I know you're all nice with Abigail, it's me you have for today, okay? Yeah, it'll be okay, it'll be fine. I'll bring a coat made of your fur, what you say?"
Despite the sun, she stays with the back to it and put all the fur on a sack. They'll take it to Jackson in the weekend, using the time to visit Joey, Tommy, Maria and your mom. The woman makes her best to clean them before cutting the fur, paying attention to sticks and bugs even though a cleaning work will happen in the city too.
Abby is nearby you, getting all the wood she'll have to cut today next to a large trunk. While you collect the vegetables, you can hear the axe going down again and again, the cracking of the wood and then it being thrown next to her. This goes on for over an hour.
It's almost relaxing, to be honest. She focuses on one task and try not to get hurt, mind empty. The pieces end up all pilled on the other side, waiting to be stocked away.
It's before midday when you three finish it all. You also clean the vegetables and cut some of them, making sure to treat the soil later.
"Run to the lake?" Ellie it's the one to suggest, gaining a smirk from Abby almost immediately.
"No", you cut, laughing. "Let's just get our stuff peacefully and go there in our sweet time, please"
They obligated for the most part. You actually got the stuff: towels, clothes and food. But later, when getting close from the lake, Abby started running and Ellie wasn't the one to deny it. And you came right after, making your away on the trail, still partially cautious about the sounds.
Apparently it was all clear, as usual. Taking off the clothes were secure. Abby puts it folded on a rock, Ellie just trows it there before jumping in the water.
You never like the contact of a body of water around you immediately, it takes a minute to get used to it. The way every movement reaches to your skin, and how completely different it is; like experiencing two different realities at once. You have patience to relax before going to the two women messing around and enjoying the fresh water under the sun.
Once you saw this old painting on a suburbian house, you mother told you what suburbs were. The painting had this beautiful lake on it, fast and raw brush strokes creating the image of a landscape. First you thought how cool it was to be able to create something like that. Then, you imagined what would it be to bathe on that place, with a little bit of tranquility and the company of whoever wanted you good.
It was good. It was sweet. And it was true. As you felt Abby's arms around you in the water, as you reached to put Ellie's hair away from her face, you realized once again that it was real, you were there. Touching them and living with them, breathing, feeling, and you couldn't think of anywhere else you'd rather be.
Birds sang sweetly around the pond, the sounds coming from everywhere sporadically as the time passed in front of your eyes. One of those rare moments when the good doesn't fly away, but walks with you, hand in hand, guiding your perception through the details. Their cool skin against yours, little drops on the limbs above water, wet hair slowing drying as breaths were so loud you thought it could be heard miles away.
"I love you. So much", you whisper under the natural track, sighing.
"We love you too", Abby said, face resting on your head as her arms enveloped you, and Ellie's hands rested on the blonde woman's biceps.
Ellie kisses your cheek as you smile.
The afternoon walks with you lovely for the next hours, and then it's time to go home again. You spent some time sitting on the border to better dry, putting back the clothes. Now, them both do not run around, just calmly wander next to you in silence for the most part.
"I'll go get the food, you to can shower first", Ellie said as soon as you reached the limits of the farm.
"Okay, thank you, sweety", you hold her hand.
When the night approaches, signing that a new day is closer than before, you three are with warm clothes on the living room. You and Abby read a book, Ellie reads a comic, and the limbs are tangled on the couch. As tempting as it was, the fireplace would never be lighted up in order to not attract unwanted people, so duvets and socks are essential for this moments.
And for the next hour you three just sit in silence and appreciate the comfort of each other's presences, before going to bed together to finish another day.

Lucerys/Aemond ABO AU
Aemond loses his control on Vhagar and falls from her, only to be saved by Luke from certain death. Vhagar flies away when she senses her rider’s fear, fear from her, leaving her alpha rider with the omega they were chasing. Aemond doesn’t understand why Luke saved him even though he chased the omega as if he was hunting him, Arrax’s one wing half gone, chewed off by Vhagar.
Aemond felt tears gather in his eye as he looked at Arrax, soft, painful groans coming from the small dragon under him. He should be relieved his nephew was safe. He was thankful Luke was alright.
“I don’t want you dead—I—I heard you, uncle,” Luke tried to stifle his sobs but couldn’t as he felt Arrax’ pain. His dragon was so brave, flying towards Dragonstone even though he was so very hurt, blood still dropping from his severed wing into the raging sea below.
“You asked her to stop.”
Aemond didn’t reply. His fate was sealed now. He should have never agreed to go and offer his younger brother’s hand to Stormlands. He should not have chased his nephew. His uncle and half-sister will make his life hell now that he was their prisoner. He had no dragon either, he was completely at their mercy.
As Aemond expected, Rhaenyra showered Luke with affection, while glaring at him with venom, Daemon was standing beside them, his hand clenched on the pommel of Dark Sister, his gaze promising him pain beyond measure. They had seen Arrax’s state and even though Luke was sobbing all the while telling them what happened, they figured out what he was saying.
“You planned to kill my son, my son, murder my child for your eye!” Rhaenyra yelled, making Aemond flinch. He knew she will not care even if he told her he didn’t want Luke dead. A part of him, the alpha in him bristled at the thought of being yelled at by a mere beta but he shut that side of him. Rhaenyra was not wrong here.
“Raise your head, nephew.” Aemond gritted his teeth as he heard the other alpha but did as told.
Daemon was looking at him with an expression he was not able to define. “You should thank your stars it was only Arrax who was injured, Aemond,” he spoke softly but Aemond still felt a chill run down his spine, “you have no idea what hell I would have raised if our son was hurt, if you had really murdered Lucerys.”
Aemond shut his eye and looked away. He did not have to hear it from his uncle what fate would have befallen him and his family if Luke had died by his hands because of his anger and bitterness.
His whole family would have been wiped out by this man, he was sure of that. Daemon and Rhaenyra would have destroyed him, regardless of the fact Vhagar was with him or not.
“It only stands to reason now you protect my son with your life.”
Aemond whipped his head to look at Rhaenyra who was looking at him blankly. “You hurt my son, my omega son, brother. Now, you’ll marry him and keep him safe from all harm for the rest of your existence. You’ll be his bonded alpha. You’ll never be able to hurt him again. An alpha can never hurt his omega no matter what.”
Daemon glanced at Rhaenyra and understood what she was thinking, there need not be any words spoken between them. He laughed when he saw Aemond’s shocked expression, “be thankful, boy I am not feeding you to Caraxes after your stunt. I should since your cunt brother and vile mother and grandfather stole my wife’s right and you tried to kill Lucerys.”
Luke tried to dissuade his parents but Rhaenyra did not want to hear anything.
“No! I don’t want to hear anything. He tried to kill you!” Lucerys sobbed as his mother kissed his head, his stepfather laid a comforting hand on his shoulder. “I don’t know what he will try again. This is the only way to ensure your safety.”
“He—he tried to stop Vhagar, mother.”
Daemon scoffed, “oh please. As if he didn’t enjoy scaring you to that degree from what you told us. Who knows what he actually wanted? I for one don’t believe he didn’t mean it. He reveled in your fear.”
Aemond clenched his hands into a fist as pain lanced through his body. He had done that. He had felt happy seeing Luke so helpless and scared. But he hadn’t wanted him dead. He hadn’t. No matter what Daemon was insinuating, he hadn’t wanted Luke dead.
“This is the best way to make sure he won’t try anything again.” He glanced at Aemond, “an eye for a dragon, nephew. That’s what you said.” Aemond averted his gaze, “well, now you have taken my son’s dragon from him. Your debt is paid. Arrax will never fly again thanks to you and that beast of yours.”
Aemond lightly kissed Lucerys, taking care not to hurt their still bleeding lips. When he met Luke’s gaze, he could see same sadness and pain reflected in his eyes.
They truly must be hated by gods, to be true bonded alpha and omega but still so distant from each other.
He had realised Lucerys was his true mate when he had bitten him. Luke had too, by the way his nails had dug into his arm and sobs had wracked through his body.
As soon as their wedding ceremony was done, Jacaerys handed the parchment to his mother, looking at Aemond as if he could not understand him. He sighed. “It’s done, mother.” He looked at Daemon who nodded. “Good.”
Daemon turned to Aemond and smiled. It was not a pleasant smile. Aemond felt dread crawl up his spine. As much as he had always admired the man, he never wanted to be on the receiving end of his anger.
“Now, we’ll see exactly how much your dear mother loves you, Aemond.” He cocked his head to the side, “does she love you more or does she want your drunk oaf of a brother on my beloved’s throne more?”
Aemond looked at the parchment, his pulse racing as he realised what the man was saying. “You will tell her you have me?” since Vhagar was last spotted somewhere in Essos, resting on lone beaches, there was no news of his survival. Arrax’s wing had torn off, maybe his family believed they had both died. Him, Luke and Arrax. Aemond grimaced, yes that was exactly what they must have thought.
Rhaenyra nodded, “your safe return for my throne.” Aemond snapped from his thoughts at the voice of his sister. “Or we take my throne with the full might of our dragons and dragons of dragonmont.” she shrugged, “of course your mother doesn’t know you are married and quite safe from our wrath. At this point I don’t care for what she believes in or not.”
When the reply arrived from the capital, for some time Aemond kept on laughing. He laughed and laughed until tears slid down his cheek. It was only Luke’s soft voice and his hand on his arm which brought him out of his crazed state.
“Alpha. Aemond. please.” Aemond slowly lifted his head to see his uncle and sister looking at him with bewilderment. He turned to his bonded husband, not surprised to see worry in Lucerys’ eyes.
“Why am I not surprised by this reply?”
Aegon had stated he was quite glad his brother was alive. He hoped his brother enjoyed his indefinite stay on Dragonstone and realizes this was how it felt when no one listened to you and forced you in things you didn’t want. Aemond was quite useless without Vhagar too, there was that to consider.
Maybe he can mend his bonds with Lucerys there since he believed there was something very odd with the way Aemond was so obsessed, fixated on Luke alone, a lost eye should not justify that level of fixation. He believed it was because Aemond wanted Luke as an alpha wanted an omega but just couldn’t admit it.
He wished Aemond luck in getting Luke and another dragon from the island, maybe he’ll be lucky twice.
“Why do you say that?” Rhaenyra asked.
Aemond sighed as he handed the letter back to his good mother/sister. He gently held Luke’s hand in his own, feeling Luke sigh contently in their bond. He hoped one day he and Lucerys would be able to love each other truly. They had spent quite a few days together having pleasant conversations. He was sure that day would come.
“I dragged him back when he was running away.” He met Daemon and Rhaenyra’s gaze, the couple looking at him with raised brows, “he doesn’t want to be king.”
Rhaenyra and Daemon again shared a glance before leaving him and Luke alone.
A week later Aemond learned Aegon had agreed to bend the knee as Rhaenyra and Daemon had sent another letter to him, saying did he really want war on his hand for a throne that he didn’t want nor which was his.
Baela told Luke and him aegon was ready to give the throne to Rhaenyra provided he, his mother, his sister wife, their children and daeron and Aemond were safe.
After the traitors and conspirators against Rhaenyra were rounded up, executed or sent to the wall, Rhaenyra was crowned the queen, Aemond finally went to speak to his mother. She had fainted when she had learned he was fine and married to Lucerys. Something which had made Aegon cackle and Heleana smile. Daeron had just said he could have saved them all the grief by doing so from the beginning. His little brother was just glad he will have nothing to do with baratheons offspring.
“How could you marry him?”
Aemond looked at his mother blankly, “why shouldn’t I marry him? He is beautiful, he is kind, he is brave, he loves his family, he is blood of the dragon like me.” he shrugged, “he’ll protect our children and love them just as much as me. What more do I need?”
He looked at his mother and tilted his head to a side, “he is my true omega, mother. Do you even understand what that means? Even betas like you know how special it is to be true bonded alpha omega.”
“He took your eye, Aemond!” Alicent cried.
Aemond smiled ruefully, “and I almost killed him for it, mother. An eye does not warrant a life. I do not want blood of my kin on my hands, of my omega on my hands.” he looked at his mother, something indecipherable in his eye, “why didn’t you get me back once you knew I was alive?”
Alicent shook her head, “aegon wouldn’t listen. No one could go against him.”
Aemond chuckled, “so you left me to rot with the supposed enemy, the very son you claim to love.” He clenched his hand into a fist, “you tried to slash Luke’s eye even though father told you to stand down but you didn’t listen. Why did you listen to aegon then? I lied for you that day mother. It was you who put us against each other since we were all babes not Rhaenyra.”
Alicent felt as if Aemond had struck her.
Aemond nodded, “I don’t care about your problems with Lucerys or his mother or anyone from his family. He is my omega, my mate, he is my bonded husband and I don’t want you ever hurting him or them again in any way. If you do love me as you claim, you’ll do this for me.”
After that Alicent did not say anything to anyone. She spent her time between the capital and old town, trying to be better.
Some time passed and before long Luke told Aemond he was pregnant.
“Really?” Aemond asked, gently stroking Luke’s cheek.
Lucerys nodded a bright grin on his face, “yes.” he looked at Aemond for a moment, his smile fading a bit. “You are not angry, are you?”
Aemond laughed, “angry? Why would I be?” he took in Lucerys’ beautiful features, a soft smile sliding on his face, “it’s a bit soon, I wanted to have you to myself for a while.” he shook his head, “but it doesn’t matter.”
He leaned forward and pressed his lips to Lucerys, warmth filling his chest as Luke returned the kiss with equal vigor.
Rhaenyra took in the scene in front of her, Lucerys leaning into Aemond, both of them looking fondly at their newborn twin boys, silver haired like their alpha sire with beautiful features of her sweet Lucerys.
She smiled, not really caring as few tears slipped down her cheeks. Maybe her decision borne out of anger, fear and punishment towards Aemond was the right one. She hadn’t known they were true mates but it seemed the stories were true. There was no power which could keep true alpha-omega couple away from each other. She was glad her child was happy, they were both happy.

I've actually done one for the Mercs' nightmares before, I'm more than happy to tackle the opposite!
Scout: he dreams about being back home. having become one of the best baseball players to exist and staying home and making his Ma proud. he has a job she can brag about, he gets to see her more often, even his brothers treat him with a little more respect for doing better in life than they did. it would make him feel sad that isn't his life, but as soon as he heads to breakfast and sees his teammates all loud and laughing, he knows it's just a nice fantasy and he wouldn't trade this life for anything
Soldier: his dreams focus on him being a war hero out on the battlefield. single-handedly saving his teammates from everything coming their way. all of them praising him as they exit the field for saving them all. the higher-ups even send him a special medal for him to wear with pride. he always wakes up feeling extra ready to get out there and get to work
Pyro: their dreams are very much like Pyroland. colorful, happy, always bustling and overstimulating. but that's how they like their world. it's childish and fun and it's the best part of their day if they're honest. they can hang out with their teammates, or go on wacky adventures that tend to continue somewhat from dream to dream even, or even just pick a spot and sit and chill the whole time they're there. they've mastered lucid dreaming and love having control and doing whatever they please
Demoman: he dreams of traveling. of getting out in the world and going from place to place. learning about the local legends and maybe spending time hunting them all down while he's there. he would want to put a book together about all he's learned. no stress about how many jobs he has, how hard he's working. it's just him and the world and he can live it however he pleases
Heavy: he dreams about retirement. this war ending and he can return home to his Mama and sisters and spend the rest of his days surrounded by them. cooking meals, sharing stories, knowing they're all safe. no more living in fear, or him having to be away from home for so long. it's just him and his family and he writes letters to his teammates
Engineer: he often dreams of farm life. in his dreams he always has his hand back, which leads him to believe he dreams of scenarios in which he/his family didn't get caught up with Mann Co. and all their nonsense. usually he's just enjoying the calm morning air and watching out over the fields, sometimes he's in the middle of chores. they're always peaceful, and yet they sometimes make him wonder if he made the right career choice
Medic: he rarely dreams at all, good or bad. it probably has something to do with his experiments. his dreams are often about having never gotten involved with mercenary work, become a regular doctor, have his own hospital that's world renowned and he's successful. but deep down he knows he'd be unfulfilled in that life. they're very nice dreams, he'll admit. he likes the moment of calm they bring to the otherwise hectic job he works
Sniper: after his parents passed away, a lot of his dreams became bittersweet. he'd dream about them again, about going home and seeing them alive and well. he wakes up and feels the need to go call them before he looks at the phone and remembers there's no one there to answer. it hurts but in a way it makes him think that maybe - just maybe - they're still thinking about him too somewhere out there
Spy: it rare he ever has a good dream. but when he does, it's usually about what his life could have been if he'd chosen to stay with Ma and raise Scout and her other boys. they're bittersweet as well, and often leave him laying in bed and thinking of all the regrets he has for not following through with it all. but instead of dwelling for too long, he goes to find ways to get stuck having to run errands with him, even if Scout annoys him the entire time
I am also SO very sorry it took me so long to get to this. I'd gotten pretty busy during January and got behind on a lot of things

I am a little curious about your thoughts on the relationship between Satan and Lucifer, considering they're a top two and have a strained dynamic! Feel like spilling?
I have just some thoughts.
Tumblr media
Satan. Yeah he is calm, but if anything I'm the living testament that you can live out of spite and people can still think you are pretty chill (yes I may be projecting). And so, he is just so full of spite. Sure, noone asks to be born, but at least the rest of his brothers were made intentionally by The Creator™️. HE WAS A FUCKING ACCIDENT, HE WAS BORN OUT OF SCORN, DISAPPOINTMENT, FEAR, RAGE AND BITTERNESS. He is the residue of the war.
He is what's left.
And he knows this. Personally I shake my head whenever people imply Satan made any mental growth only thanks to MC. If anything, he is the only one who made any mental growth in the whole family before that. He chose who and how he was going to be, and did it. He is damn certain he is an individual outside of Lucifer's identity long before the idiot sheep arrives. By the time the program starts he has already separated himself from the origins of his birth, he is already in the process of being someone outside of that (it's others perception of it that bothers him). He's a socialite, he reads to have the power of knowledge. A power that he acquires by himself, outside of his family status. Think about it. Yeah, Lucifer is knowledgeable, but that's just something innate of him apparently, none of his other brothers seem that interested in academic knowledge.
And Lucifer... he was not fit as a parent figure, only as a brother. A brother who was recovering from one of the greatest injuries of his life. And who had to deal with 5 other wounded people, who looked to him for guidance.
They deserved better. Everyone deserved better.
Do you know, a big part of overcoming generational trauma sometimes is having enough self love to be mad? Because at the begining is normal to just feel miserable, and that you deserve everything that's been done to you. But as you recover and recognize what happened, some people react with rage. And it is righteous. Rage because you finally respect yourself enough to stand up for yourself. Rage because you realize you deserved better, and that you didn't deserve that harm, nor did your siblings. Rage at the injustice the very person who claims themelves "just" commited. The same being who deemed themselves fit to bring you upon existence, can just decide to take it all away. Can just decide to execute your sister. Rage rage rage, aimed directly at the center of your life. This is the rage I think Satan was born out of. Not the rage fueled by the adrenaline of a battle cry, not even for the aesthetic of some shallow bloodlust, no. Rage against their creator himself. Pure, righteous, certain, and insatiable.
And I think that specific sort of rage is relevant to who Lucifer and Satan are, and their relationship. Lucifer is still coming to terms with the fact that he felt an emotion that was probably ingrained into him as "wrong" during his time as an angel. To such a degree. And his time in the Devildom has let him feel more freely. Keep in mind that at the same time were, presumably, Satan's most formative years. I would not be surprised if not just Lucifer, but Satan also had had to do some of the comforting the rest of his hurt family.

cw; angst, major bnha spoilers (ch. 362) below the cut.
Tumblr media
Japan was cold this time of the year, the flowers didn't bloom and the trees were bare for the world to see. The streets were empty, except for the businessman who was rushing to get out of the snow that was sticking to the ground. Anyone would be seeking shelter from the cold weather, out of fear of getting sick but you couldn't move. Feet practically frozen to the floor as you stared at the object in your hand.
It was an impulsive buy, something your therapist had told you to stop doing. But you couldn't stop yourself, seeing the old box sitting in the bottom of a shop window - old and forgotten about, they didn't even sell these things anymore.
Yet here you were... holding an All Might trading card.
Even the cold weather couldn't shake you from the pain that was shackling your body to the ground, snow drifting and sticking to your hair after the hood of your coat fell down. You couldn't believe it, was it a lucky find or something more? The shine of the card was beautiful, even with the snow sticking to it's surface and melting away leaving small puddles of icy water.
This card used to mean nothing to you, you wanted it to mean nothing to you in this very moment as your heart seized up in remembrance. How long had it been now? Nine years? Ten years? Ten sounded about right.
You didn't even realise you were moving until the sound of concrete shifted to the crunch of dead leaves that had been forgotten about, the small stone path wound between beautiful sakura trees that would be beautiful in bloom. He would've hated a place like this, you think, he was never one for the beauty in flowers and their meanings.
Blinking away the blur from your eyes, you stood at the old wooden gate that led inwards. It was silent here, scarily so. The city wasn't in ear shot anymore, the wind had seemed to cease completely and the snowfall was slow and gentle. It was serene here, and you knew you'd be alone to visit the only person you miss more than anything in this world.
Muscle memory of coming here every two weeks usually on a Saturday afternoon allowed you to walk on autopilot, cold hands buried into the pockets of your coat with a thumb running across the shiny smooth material of the trading card. The grave was a little more secluded, they wanted to give him a place all for himself - a memorial fit for the future number one hero.
You stopped just at the foot of the grave, eyes downcast as you stared at the soil that was frozen over solid before your eyes drifted upwards.
'Bakugou Katsuki'.
The name still brought an unbearable amount of pain and grief, your throat growing tight at the fact the one person you believed to be stronger than anyone in the world was beneath your feet - dead. It felt so wrong, it still feels so very wrong that it was him. He didn't deserve it, he was just a child with a dream and it was smudged out of existence.
You slowly drew out the card from your pocket, tear filled eyes flitting away from the headstone and to the card. He would've loved to have a new one, his old one that he had kept for a large part of his life was destroyed the same day as his body, as his soul, as his dreams. It was stupid, how much he loved All Might and yet the man wasn't even there to save Bakugou.
Dropping down onto your knees, ignoring the wet feeling of the snow seeping through your jeans and chilling your skin to the bone. You stared again at the headstone, it was a beautiful piece.. the commission paid for it after the war was over.
Seeing it again always brought back the memories of the funeral, it was one of the most painful days of your life. Seeing the tears streaming down your friends faces, down his parents faces. You had never seen Mitsuki so broken, the woman was always smiling or yelling at Katsuki when you visited his home. But to see her stood still like a statue, her eyes sunken into her face and she looked deathly sick.. it was hard to control your own emotions at that point.
You vaguely remembered the feeling of someone's arms around you, Kirishima your brain supplies, he had held you tight when you started to crumble at the sight of his ashes being brought out. A tiny box filled with the remains of a boy who had the biggest dreams and aspirations, it felt wrong to see him reduced to nothing but that tiny black box.
Kirishima had held you when you finally did collapse at the sight of Midoriya showing up. No-one had seen him much after it happened, he was so distant again that it was like the time he left you all. He didn't look like he used to, the death of his childhood best friend seeming to have aged him some and drain him of that happy energy he constantly radiated.
Midoriya didn't even say anything to anyone, still in his full hero costume that was beyond repair, stains that were so dark you were sure it was blood. He instead just offered you one glance, locking eyes with you and his eyes were so devoid of anything, he looked like the husk of the boy he once was.
You had cried when he turned to walk away from everything to never return.
"Hey." you whispered out, voice hoarse from the tightness of just trying to hold it all together as the memories wash over you like waves on the beach shore. "Look what I found today." and you turned the card towards the grave as if he was there before you, smiling weakly at the thought of Bakugou rolling his eyes and scoffing because his card was 'better'.
"Yeah, I know they don't even make these things anymore." you looked back down at the card, wiping away the snow that had gathered again on the small face of All Might. "I was actually on the way home, I know I don't usually come on Mondays but I thought you'd want this."
The silence continued to fill the air as you stared at the card harder, like the tiny picture would come to life and tell you it was all a bad dream, that your Katsuki was still alive. But it never did, and instead the tears fell from your cheeks splattering against the shiny card. You sucked in a harsh shaky breath, "It's not fair, Katsuki." you managed to whisper out.
"I miss you so fucking much. It hurts, all the fucking time." your tone was nothing but pain filled, all the memories seeming to resurface at once when you took in another deep breath to try and steady yourself.
You remember watching it all happen in slow motion, he was getting up, he was going to keep fighting! He was so strong, everyone knew that and yet when he was bleeding, partially blind and arm completely destroyed.. no one made a move to help him. Even you were frozen in place when you watched Shigaraki slowly approaching him again, it was the biggest regret of your life. If you moved, if you just used your damn quirk then maybe Bakugou would've lived!
And when he launched himself forward just using explosions from his good hand, your heart lurched in your chest.. he was going to give everything he had before he died, and no-one stopped him from doing something so suicidal. You watched when Best Jeanist caught his body in his arms, lowering him to the floor onto his back as he stared up into the sky with a faraway look in his eye, it felt like the oxygen was stolen from your lungs and your heart felt like it stopped. No-one was there to hold him in his final moments, he just laid there with his crumpled and bloodied All Might card.
You screamed and cried finally, realisation setting in deep that his light was snuffed out. He had so much to live for, so much to strive for. You could hear the screams of Aizawa somewhere nearby, the gasps of your classmates. Everyone thought Bakugou was invincible, he was invincible. He survived a villain attack multiple times, he survived being hit directly by Shigaraki once before so why not now?!
The rest of the battle was a blur, the world seeming to fade away as you watched Bakugou's body remain stationary, growing cold and unmoving. Even from your position you could see he was drenched in blood, his eyes still open and head tilted in your direction, you're not sure if he searched for you knowing you were close by or if he was completely blind at this point. But it pained you to think that perhaps he was searching for you, that in his last moments he wanted a slither of the comfort you had brought him over the past two years of knowing him.
"Why'd you have to leave me all alone, huh?" finally breaking out of the painful memory, staring at the grave as if it personally offended you. "You promised me that we'd graduate together. You promised you'd take me to the top." you knew you were talking to the wind, words floating away with no real malice behind them. You didn't really blame him, if anything you blamed yourself.
It fell silent again in the cemetery, just the rustling of trees and a distant sound of a car horn honking. Your lips were turned downwards, eyebrows furrowed together before you leaned forward and placed the All Might card perfectly against his gravestone between flowers that were slowly dying - someone must've visited recently.
The squeak of the old wooden gate finally shook you enough to get up from your kneeling position. The card was glinting in the sunlight that was peeking through the snow clouds, the nearly dead chrysanthemums were a beautiful orange. You remembered that was the single flower that Bakugou said he could tolerate. 'Looks like my explosions, that's badass' he had said once in passing, and you clung to that moment of minimal softness for life.
"I should get going." you said barely above a whisper, swallowing hard at the dryness that clung to your throat.
"I love you Katsuki, I can't wait to see you again." those three words weren't foreign on your tongue anymore, having confessed your love for the explosive blonde for the last 10 years of your life. You just wished he was still around to hear it, you imagine at first he would've scowled at the idea of being loved but you're certain he would've said them back when he was ready.
Leaving the cemetery was always bittersweet, it felt like you were leaving him behind, turning your back on him but you knew he would've told you to get on with your life, make him proud of how far you'd gotten in life and that was your only goal now; to make Bakugou Katsuki proud and to live out the life he never got.

Shared Memories
The door shut with a soft shck behind Mermista. When she entered her own living room with Catra waiting patiently on the tufted couch, she had the briefest moment of panic. Even after all these months, seeing Catra's face alone caused fear. She berated herself internally for it. She looked away trying to suppress a memory that wasn't hers.
She walked over to a chair, tufted in the same way, and sat. Catra's eyes followed her. Mermista's leg began to cross the other and then she thought better of it. Still uncomfortable, she didn't know where to place her foot. "Ugh!" she groaned, "Fuck it," and she draped a leg over the arm rest. "Look, I don't know what you want from me, okay? I know you're sorry. I know you're helping and doing better or whatever. I saw what happened to you. Your memories. They fucking haunt me now. Argh! What am I even saying!? I GET IT! Okay. We- we don't need to talk about it."
"I um-" Catra started weakly. "I wasn't here, really, for me." She sat up from her seat.
"You're here for me? Why?"
Catra cleared her throat, "I got your memories, too. Your dad- not the greatest parent to have raise you either. I just thought- I thought maybe you wanted to talk about it since, you know, you hadn't told anyone before."
"Yeah, well, more than half of all Etheria knows, thanks to Prime. There's really nothing to talk abou-"
"You never talked about it. They have your memories, but they're processing it their way. You never got it off your chest before. And I...," she stared at the floor until her eyes drifted back up to Mermista again, "I know a thing or two about what it feels like to be punished before I did anything wrong and given responsibilities that were supposed to make me fail. How your whole life was designed to make you punish yourself so they didn't have to."
"I-" Mermista began. She was trying to refute it. Trying to reason that she shouldn't show, of all people - Catra, vulnerability. The very fact that Catra was even allowed in Salineas was enough to have the people of her Kingdom question her judgement. But there she was, sitting in front of her, offering a listening ear. She scoffed. Then she pursed her lips with an added slow nod. She looked up at Catra, "He- My father tried to convince me that he was gifting me this kingdom. I barely saw him. I was 20 and the only thing I knew about this place were from the whispered rumors from my guards. He took what he got from the people and then just... left.
"My whole life had been like I was always in his way. An inconvenience that interrupted and-" she glanced at Catra who nodded and hung on to every word. "-whatever."
Catra didn't push her. She instead told her about Shadow Weaver. A memory she knew Mermista was familiar with. "It was never clear why she hated me. Even just walking by her, I could feel her getting tense, like I was bothering her just for existing."
"Yeah! Like what the fuck, right? It's not like I knew he was there. It wasn't like I fuckin' meant to bother him. I barely breathed around him, y'know? Like..., like-"
"Like you were taking up too much of his air."
"Right! I just... It was like I wasn't allowed to exist around him. And oh! But when he comes to me I suddenly have to be so grateful to him! Every time," she growled those words, "Every time he did that, I just got so angry. I hated everything and everyone because I wasn't even allowed to complain! Argh! And I hated that I got angry. I just wanted everything to be chill! And then!
"THEN, after MONTHS of telling everyone he was going to fix the Sea Gate, he sits me down for a 'serious talk'." Mermista took a moment for this. Catra already knew. It was the day Mermista was given Silaneas while he escaped. It was too important for him, the King, to stick around. "I'm a fucking QUEEN! Okay!? I had basically no staff, no guards, and a fuck-ton of people to keep calm while the Horde was at my doorstep!" Catra knew she was venting, it was fine. Mermista let out a heavy sigh, "Glad you're on our side now, shit head," she smirked at that. Catra huffed a laugh in return.
"Well I'm inside now, I'm just waiting for Scorpia to give me the signal. KIDDING! KIDDING! I'm- I'm kidding. Sorry, too soon. It'll always be too soon." Catra's face was turning red and she offered another apology.
"You're a fucking twat, you know that," she said this with the corner of her mouth rising. "It's cool. I know Adora's got you on a leash."
She laughed, "Pff fuck you."
Mermista let out a half sigh half groan that felt like forever, "Okay. You want to do a girls-night-out thing? Maybe we should get captured by some Crimson Waste losers or something and get Sea Hawk to save us."
"Not really in the mood to get burned to death on some ship, no offense, but I'll take you up on the girls night out. You think Netossa and Spinenrella could join us?"
"Sure, why not? Wait, no Adora?"
"Hm? Oh, no. I made the mistake of not believing how Adora gets when she's drunk and uh, kinda not the vibe I was going for tonight, y'know?"
"Drunk She-Ra?"
"Drunk She-Ra. She is really strong."

This is a vent post. Because no-one I usually go to with this stuff is currently awake. So not tagging it and will likely delete it come later today. But I need to put this somewhere lest it builds up more. So you all get to ride this emo train with me.
Just. If medical anxiety, cancer scare, fears around parental death and existential dread for the future are things you can't deal with right now feel free to skip. I don't blame you. I wish I could skip this.
I'm scared. Plain and simple. I'm scared.
My dad has been having episodes of peeing blood and he's finally getting it checked out. Last week he had a scan and they found something. They just don't know what since those scans don't do well with empty organs. They just have a rough size estimate of somewhere between 3 to 9mm. So in a few hours he has an exam to stick a camera up there and go see what's up.
And I'm scared.
I'd been oddly, surprisingly, uncharacteristically chill about it all week. Really not my usual. I was all, no need to stress, chances are it's just a polyp and even if it's not it's not big right? (No I have no concept of what are usual sizes of the T word are and looking it up now would be an extremely bad, no good, terrible idea.) But where I was chill all week, I'm not so much now. As in not at all actually.
It wasn't bad throughout the day, but once night fell it got progressively worse by the hour. While playing a game to distract myself it was still manageable, but once in the dark, trying to sleep, and nothing to focus on. Yeah chill is so far removed from what I am now that it's in another universe entirely. So far it's 7am and no sleep was had. Don't know if I'll get any. I should, because if it's bad news I also won't get any sleep after. But mind is not having it. And the aforementioned no one to talk to doesn't help.
All the fears, all the existential dread. All the everything. Because pitiable as it sounds with how my life has gone he's my rock. My emotional support. He is the one semi functioning cog in this broken down household of a health issues collectathon. And well, my parents are all I have.
It feels like we were finally starting on making some preparation for the future. Starting being the operative word there. As I'm the greyest of grey zones no one knows how to help other than passing the buck. And now I fear it will become a trial by fire as so much of my life has already been. And I'm still as fire proof as dry straw.
Where a few days ago I almost felt like it would be ok. That we'd sort things out, and make plans, and I'd learn. Learn to somehow take care of myself despite everything. Somehow. Figure it all out by the time I'd need it. Somehow. Now I'm right back to feeling small. Small and helpless. And I hate it.
I can't help wondering if I was fooling myself. That I'm just destined to end up bounced around from hospital to hospital to a retirement home, because there are just are no accomodations for people like me. The fact I've once spent five weeks in a hospital room with someone like that. Someone like me, who'd been forced to live exist like that and was pretty much left to waste away. Forever told no one knew what to do with her and she neither belonged nor had a place anywhere. Someone who... well who knows if she's even still alive today. It does not help these fears.
So yeah having a bit of an anxiety meltdown and I can't even go to my parents, which is usually the hack to wrangle the panic demons under control, because they have their own fears without me adding to it. It's just so much.
And I'm scared.
I know all the sayings. All the wisdom. About how worrying about something is putting yourself through it twice. And how stress isn't bad it's just a way for your body to deal with challenges. How you need to stay away from what ifs and only deal with stuff you know. All the grounding and breathing exercises. All the stay in the now stuff. All the advice. But guess how many of those are working right now when I'm posting this ramble online.
You know. Sometimes I envy those of you who believe in a god or a sentient universe or whatever. Because it would be really nice right now to think there was something out there I could appeal to to give us more time. Something I could tell, well listen, buddy. Whoever might be up, or down, or triple sideways loop the loop style out there somewhere. I'm not saying we won't still have to have a talk when I arrive wherever, but if you make sure it isn't bad news, idk. Just keep a receipt or something, and I will probably go from very pissed, to strongly worded letter, maybe even begrudging acceptance, when we do get round to that talk.
It would be nice.
But I don't.
So you all got this vent instead.

Not an essay-length post like the last couple of times, my late S1 rewatch thoughts from 1x09-1x10 are gonna be way more scattered. I’m sorry, three weeks of not posting rewatch thoughts have done this to me.
Judging from TK and Owen’s convo, this must be indicative of the “equals” dynamic they have going on when they’re off the job or don’t feel the authoritative need. And it says something about TK when even though he’s really going through a full-on PTS existential crisis he not only doesn’t blame a little boy for acting out of fear, he’s pretty chill about Zoe and keeping in contact with her even when god knows how many times he went through the emotionally mountainous peaks and valleys that made up his dad’s love life and 2 failed marriages. (Tbf, timing of meeting your parent’s love interest when you’re coming out of the wrong end of a medical emergency— that timing is awkward). Also I’m low key bitter that we didn’t get a scene of Carlos visiting conscious TK during the rest of the hospital stay or his at-home recuperation. That was quite a lot that happened offscreen. But, all the same, I’m glad TK decided to take a chance and renounce his semi-renouncement of his relationship with Carlos. It’s beautiful.
Having watched Overly Sarcastic Productions’ thoughts on gender-reveal parties (look up the name on YT, then for a video game livestream of Journey), that family is gonna have their hands full with their now 4 sons.
Also late shoutout to the 911 Lone Star Roundup podcast! I am a local Hawaiian so felt so seen when they brought up kalua pork in their 1x02 discussion (btw, kalua pork is very similar to Texan barbacoa but they wrap the seasoned pig/ fish/ chicken in leaves before cooking). Now veering back to 1x09… I feel like the father and son (“Keithan” has very similar hybrid vibes to “Renesmee”, huh) might view the word “spelunking” cold comfort after that experience in… the… the Birth Canal??? (HOW DID I NEVER REALIZE THE INNUENDO?! God, the comments section is bringing out a louder side in me)
The Blake family’s mystery arc, I thought, was pretty good. There could’ve been more to be shown, like most things on the show (like, did the sisters catch a ride to the hospital after Iris saved Michelle? Walk? Wait it out? There was a district-to-citywide electronic shutdown, that doesn’t bode well for unstable mental health) but otherwise? It was good for what we got to see, I think. Low key fight me. Iris bringing up Carlos keeping Michelle out of trouble? Admittedly it is a bit of a stretch to say that it was foreshadowed for season 4, but it was nice to hear him in her thoughts. And the parallels with TK’s past with addiction were subtle, but there in a few more ways than with Owen and Michelle’s talk.
Thinking on the astronaut call, there’s one more late 911 Lone Star Roundup shoutout I wanna make, plus one more retrospective parallel. If the 126 had had TK on the call, or… if TK had heard that call? Yeah. That would hurt him hard. And with what happens to him and his mom two seasons later (in flashbacks to 2017, but still)? … a moment of silence. And I JUST came up with it off the top of my head today.
As for my timeline measurements, I admit defeat now.
Tumblr media
But I will pick it back up and try assembling everything again. Not yet, but soon. Just… look. I get that suspension of disbelief in narrative timelines exists for a reason, but please. Some help from a stable continuity would be more than welcomed. I’m not-so-surreptitiously peering at @thisbuildingwithfeelings.

Came across an interesting thread on reddit. I won't link it or say who posted it, the OP seems to enjoy blocking people that disagree with them so I choose to discuss my thoughts elsewhere.
It was about how the party would react to Will's sexuality. The initial post insisted that they wouldn't be homophobic. In that, they seem to imply there is no reason for Will to be afraid to come out or that everything would go swimmingly if he did come out to them.
Their evidence was Steve being chill with Robin coming out to him, which was a VERY different situation and involved drugs. But that's besides the point.
I think the initial post is looking at this as a black and white situation or they just don't seem to understand Will's perspective. They are too trapped in the here and now, the modern times where you can just state your sexuality on your profile and SOMEONE will support you and defend you from homophobes. Even that is questionable because there are still thousands of people in the closet to this day, afraid of anyone finding out what they are.
This is the 80's.
Do I think the party are explicitly homophobic and would hurt Will? Of course not.
Does that mean Will shouldn't be afraid to come out? Uh no?
Again, THIS IS THE 80'S! It is a RISK for anyone to find out what he is. Will is so careful about it that he won't even tell his brother. You know Jonathan, the best big brother one could have, the one Will really looks up to and thinks of as his best friend? Jonathan literally opened the door for him to say something and he still hesitated and slightly swiveled around the topic. He can't even tell his own family people.
Even if he THINKS his friends MIGHT support him and not just drop him like a slack of potatoes, he probably STILL wouldn't tell them willingly right now.
What if they told someone else? What if someone outside of their friend ground found out? What if someone overheard? What if they only pretend to still like him and then talk about him behind his back? What if they start to think he's gross? What if their parents find out and won't let them hang out anymore? What if what if what if
It makes complete sense why Will hasn't come out to them. It will make complete sense if Will is scared to tell them.
Maybe if this show were realistic the party would've been homophobic and really drop him like a hot potato, but everyone can acknowledge that's not really the case. But homophobia DOES exist in the Stranger Things universe. They've thrown around the f word a few times already. It's not completely realistic, but there IS realism there.
Will has reasons to fear coming out whether the party is homophobic or not. It's not about what the party will or won't do, it's about Will Byers and how HE feels.
By implying there's nothing for Will to fear by coming out, you're erasing part of his character. His own father bullied and abused him over his perceived sexuality. Imagine how Will must feel having his own dad criticize him for his sexuality before he even figured out his own sexuality. And to make matters worse, his father was RIGHT. Imagine all that negativity and self hatred he must feel sometimes. That does something to people man.
So anyway. Just some thoughts on the subject. Will the party be homophobic. Probably not. Does that matter? No, because Will still has every reason to be afraid of coming out of the closet right now. It IS the 80's. Even if it's not as bad as real life, you can never be too safe back then.

Part 2 Jean Gray S/O Mukami Edition
sorry for the delays not to get too personal for privacy reasons but I've had an accident that's made typing slow plus with my exams wrapping up it's safe go say I got busy lol.
Eve had been taken by the Sakamakis and causing quite a fuss. Yet Karl their saviour had promised to make up for it only to have this risk thrusted upon them.
Unknown strength forcing them back from their approach and a familiar look in her eyes. Like a falcon in a cage ever thinking on how to get out. In a sick sense they realised they were staring at a mirror of their younger selves, as if they were somehow the monsters that had harmed them.
Ruki
You would think being previously human himself this dumbass would've realised that he's not smart from having some fangs. But no violence instead, sure he has a dark past, is old, and is basically in a cult but that doesn't excuse hurting others.
His inferiority complex, especially when it comes to women because ✨mummy issues✨, are going nuts. Every part of his little noggin is cycling through ideas of ways to turn off your powers or break you down to where you don't think you even try. Of course the mind reading throws a particular wrench in the plan.
Ruki shows every sign of his control issues being trauma responses from his past and while that's definitely a real issue it ain't your issue. You aren't a member of the cult that sends these girls you haven't been raised in such a toxic environment to view yourself as needing to be this female savior figure. Ruki is almost attracted to it but there's so much confliction going on. And you're fully aware how the smartest play is to never let on you know his parents names, his nightmares, his scars and his fears.
Kou
Oh boy. Kou is not as impatient as a Sakamaki, he also is better practiced in manipulation with people other then previously mentally broken down girls. He's not dumb enough to rush his hand as much as he hates it. Your a cat, independent and impossible to herd in his mind. Of course unlike a cat you aren't about to come sit in his lap regardless of how nice he acts.
That's when he learns your mind doesn't only affect the external but can also pry. Pry. Pry. Pry. Such a naughty little kitty you are hiding the truth from him so sneakily.
He decides there and then he'll be the one to kill you he just isn't sure how yet.
Yuma
Uneasy but by far the most receptive to it. Maybe it's favoritism but I think of the four Yuma is the most receptive to humanity but has been hardened and still values his brothers more than clinging to humanity.
You're useful in the garden, you're not fragile, and you're not taking part in the messy charade that is the vampire feeding cult. He does have an issue not being able to easily drink but I think he's the most likely to be able to work around it. ON ONE CONDITION...
It's the mind reading I'm getting so repetitive here and I know this may look lazy but let's not lie to ourselves. All the Diaboys got trust issues so mind reading is well out their comfort zone.
So as long as he knows about everything though its chill. The giant and the powerhouse dynamic means you have a relatively chill existence, until either you eventually escape or you and Yuma run off.
Azusa
Big fan but doesn't understand the true meaning ya know?
Dude gets a kick out of it which is an issue for you with the whole being left alone and not harassed by vampires thing. You learn pretty fast to be gentle pushing him away to try minimise his attempts to get you to hurt him. I don't think he'll care much about the mind reading he'd just see it as more reason to be punished.
I also think he won't even careto buffer the attacks of his brothers, thus adding to your stress. Needless to say it's setting up a weird dynamic.
If you're his flavour of fucked up it might be fun for you but that's pretty fucked up.
If not, you've now got this shadow to try shake.
Maybe in a post therapy world you be his protector but as it stands you refuse to be another tormentor.

[The House of The God's]
Many believe that there are no gods, others think that there are only a few or even only one, the reality is that, in the infinite galaxies, which exist in what in our opinion is an infinite universe, there are an infinite number of planets. , and many planets have life on them, life which sometimes evolves enough to be aware of its surroundings, that's when they ask themselves "how was what I know created? how does my species exist? who was the first?" Thus, the gods or the god that created them (because yes, there are a large number of gods in the universe), send them signals, unlike what many believe, the divine ones do not control, they do not send instructions, at least not always, some like to see where their creation can go without any clue or help, others have implemented free will as a form of punishment to their creation, for having offended them.
There are many types of gods, some that are just beginning to exist and create, others that are already more "elderly" and have been creating for a long time, the gods are usually born from gods, command is usually handed over to the next generation or they can To reign together in harmony, it also often happens that the children take power by force or that the parents never give any power to their children beyond what they already have at birth, because they do not consider them worthy.
Some gods have their own kingdoms and spaces and do not mix with other gods, others live in what is known as "The universal palace" many gods like to spend time there, because it is a great place to rest from the heavy task To prevent your creation from self-destructing, others arrive because their reign has ended and they want to rest or because they have already fulfilled their work as prophets and hope that their words will be heard, but only one got there, out of desire for freedom.
In the heavenly palace, although there are several gods, mostly the following are found:
Paya; Goddess of life and creation for the Yautja, (Her brother would be here too, but he doesn't like to socialize and he likes his cave)
Zeus; He used to be the god of lightning and the heavens for humans (Greeks and Romans he was known as Jupiter)
Aphrodite; She used to be the goddess of Fertility and beauty for humans (Greeks and Romans she was known as Venus)
Loki; He used to be the god of lies, transformation and mischief for humans (Nordic), after Ragnarok he is here with Freya and Thor until they let them come back.
Buda; He is here to rest from the day like Paya he is from the humans
Dē-ty; They are one of the yougest gods, havent created more than plants, but give them enough time and you will see in a couple if centuries.
Jesus: He is traumatized, but even so, loves humans, but also fears them, even tho he didn't create them, he still love humans. (Don't comment about his scars, unless ur paya) and yes, he cant be on a pool not because he walk above the water, but because he turns water into wine.
And yes the other gods specially Zeus is like "J.C i need a miracle"
And J.C is like "How much water do you have?" , yep, he, he is chill.
Paya is like the mother of the group she puts zeus in his place most of the time.
And what about the other gods? Well you will have to discover it asking them! The asks to the gods are open!
-------------------------------------------------------
Excuse my inactivity , i just closed this semester and im about to explode, but i promise that will be more active during this winter vacations.
Remember to drink water!
