A little trivia for those that just got introduced to Ultraman thanks to Ultraman Rising
You know that part where baby kaiju Emi is shown a kids cartoon with an earworm of a song?
Tumblr media
That cartoon is real!! It's called Kaiju Step Wandabada and it stars cute kid versions of different monsters from different Ultraman series (mostly the original from 1966 wich Rising is also based on). The opening shown in the movie is in stop-motion while the cartoon itself is in 2D.
Tumblr media
The Ultraman heroes don't appear in person, but bizarrely enough they seem to exist as fictional superheroes in-universe, with the kaiju kids having toys and dolls of them. It's no surprise Emi liked it so much! She would be right at home in this show!
Tumblr media
The episodes are 5 minutes long, there are two seasons of 26 episodes each for a total of 52. The official Tsurubaya channel has the first episodes of both seasons uploaded...
youtube
youtube
...but the rest were sadly only up for a limited time cuz gotta sell the dvds. What is officially available online right now is a series of educational shorts.
Some years ago Marvel Comics got the rights to make Ultraman comics and made a mini-series called "The Rise of Ultraman" (no relation), and these Kaiju Step designs got to appear as part of in-universe instructional videos about dealing with monsters and aliens:
Tumblr media
So let's have a quick rundow on the little monsters and where each comes from:
Tumblr media
Pigmon or Pig-chan is the main protagonist and new kid in town (forest). This coral-looking guy is one of the most iconic and recurring ultra monsters and the go-to kid-friendly one, as he stood out among the original set of kaiju for being friendly and heroic (as well as human-sized). He has the bad habit of dying in many of his apperences but fortunately that's not the case here.
Tumblr media
Kanegon or Kane-chan is the second member of the protagonist trio, and the most energic and simple-minded. A coin purse monster that eats money, and usually a human kid under a curse. He actually pre-dates Ultraman, appearing in the black-and-white anthology series Ultra Q wich had monsters but not superheroes. Fortunately this one doesn't need to eat money and was born a kaiju.
Tumblr media
Alien Dada or Dada-chan is the reliable but temperamental inventor of the trio, he dreams of building a rocket ship. One of the most iconic villains from the original 1966 Ultraman (and that's saying a lot), it's a weird alien with weird powers looking for human subjects for his weird experiments, like testing his shrinking ray. He really earns the name of a weird art movement.
Tumblr media
Gomora or Gomo-chan is probably the most iconic ultra kaiju of all. Remember how in Ultraman Rising there is this whole sequence where the dad omniously talks about fighting him? There is a good reason for that. Gomora had the only two-parter in the original 1966 series, and was able to actually defeat Ultraman in their first figh. He's essentially Godzilla if he lived underground rather than underwater (He's even been a good guy and had a robot counterpart). Here, however, Gomora is a chill guy who's passionate about agriculture. (btw, you can also spot Gomora in Rising on a screen around an hour and eight minutes into the movie).
Tumblr media
Red King or just Red is another iconic ultra dino, that looks like corn. In the show he's brute but well-meaning, and has a friendly sport rivalry with Kemur-chan. But in the Ultraman series he's a sadistic and murderous bully who beats up weaker monsters but gets his butt kicked rather easily by Ultraman (although more recent incarnations have have been more positive, both in his fighting ability and sometimes even becoming a loving father). (and yes, you are right, he's not red).
Tumblr media
Jamira or Jami-chan is a passionate archeologist and fossil collector in the show, whereas in the original Ultraman he was a human astronaut that got infected by a virus. He hasn't appeared much beyond his debut... but doesn't need to, as his episode was very memorable in how sad and tragic it was. I can't imagine the target audience's whiplash seeing this cute creature one moment collecting fossils and the next having a horrible sad death. I guess one could say the same for most of the characters, but this one takes the cake.
Tumblr media
Miclas or Mic-chan is the youngest character, a baby, and loves bugs. He was one of the "capsule monsters" from the second ultra series, Ultra Seven. Sometimes the titular ultra wouldn't be able to fight himself so he would summon up to three very loyal monsters from little capsules to do the fighting instead (or at least buy some time, they weren't very strong). One was a triceratops, another was a robot bird, but the most iconic had to be Miclas because really, what even is he? Some kind of bull toad hybrid? (By the way, fun fact, the capsule monsters were one of the inspirations for Pokemon).
Tumblr media
King Joe (yes, that's his name) or Joe-chan is a robot controlled by alien invaders and is to Ultra Seven what Gomora is to the original Ultraman: he's the subject of a two-parter and was able to beat the hero to a pulp at first, made harder to fight by his ability to divide into three flying parts. Fortunately this Joe is very shy and very friendly.
Tumblr media
Eleking or Ele-chan from Ultra Seven is another of the "mascot" ultra kaiju. If two ultra kaiju have to appear in anything, chances are they will be Gomora and Eleking. In fact, in Ultraman Rising you can see Eleking in a monitor right next to Gomora (around an hour and eight minutes in). It's a dinosaur-like eel monster with (of course) electric powers, and the enforcer of an all-female bug-like alien species set to conquer the earth, that are nonetheless very affectionate towards their pet-weapon dino-eel. The fact that Eleking's masters are always women may explain why the Kaiju Step one is a very femenine and elegant girl despite having King in the name, though no less dangerously electric.
Tumblr media
Alien Guts or Guts-chan here is a very little alien bird child who can multiply into three separate individuals to cause all the destruction in their sincere attempts to help out. The original duo from Ultra Seven meanwhile are ruthless alien invaders that are infamous for freaking crucifying the aforementioned hero, leading to decades of japanese media having christian imagery for the sake of looking cool, most notably Neon Genesis Evangelion, because these birds did it first and it looked so cool.
Tumblr media
Alien Kemur or Kemu-chan is a very agile alien that comes from the distant future of 2020 to consume humans and extend his lifespan. Here he's a friendly but competitive ninja from the present, and has a rivalry with Red King being the speed to his strenght. Like Kanegon, he pre-dates Ultraman, being from Ultra Q.
Tumblr media
Motokureron or Kureron-chan originates from the whimsical, fairy-tale like Ultraman Taro. A kid found him as a baby and fed him until he grew to giant size, but when the kid couldn't feed him anymore he turned destructive; fortunately he was easy to pacify with food, including the kind that made him shrink. He retains his glutonny and clumsiness in Kaiju Step, often doing the bad thing (tm) so the others can teach the kids in the audience why you shouldn't do the bad thing (tm).
Tumblr media
Nova or No-chan originates from the surprisingly dark Ultraman Leo. This creepy and bizarre ghost-like alien created a red mist that made people go crazy, and manipulated a kid with illusions of his deceased family, and under his cloth there are lots of tentacles and a scythe. So of course, in Kaiju Step she's a happy and energic little girl that loves to sing.
Tumblr media
Mugera or Muge-chan is by far the most obscure kaiju of the cast. She's from the 2001 series Ultraman Cosmos, the one where the titular hero protects monsters instead of fighting them. Mugera is an ET-like cryptid that lives in an amusement park that only kids can see, with the ability to fix toys and heal wounds with her magic. After the amusement park closes down she phones home and the protagonists have to protect her from the goverment wich is a little too eager to shoot down the UFO that came to pick her up. In Kaiju Step she likes reading and plants.
And that was your daily dose of kaiju sugar, that may be overdose because you probably already met Emi. Cheers!

In Jurassic World: Rebirth, Jonathan Bailey plays paleontologist turned survival expert Dr Henry Loomis – worlds apart from his horned-up 19th century turn as Viscount Anthony Bridgerton. Less steam, more doom, and a load of gore is what happens in big budget Hollywood movies that put humans in front of building-sized ancient carnivores.
In the latest trailer for the movie, we see Bailey abseiling down cliffs, beefing with raptors in caves and tackling sea-dwelling beasts head-on. If you were to go up against a feisty T-Rex, you’d need to be tooled up to the max. It’s tough guy shit that calls for a tough guy watch, which is how Bailey, an Omega ambassador, landed on the watch for the role.
“For Jurassic, I wanted to put an Omega watch through its paces. I knew that I wanted my character to wear one and I spotted the Railmaster from '57,” says Bailey. I spoke to Raynald [Aeschlimann, Omega CEO] and he tracked down a watch that was made in homage to that exact watch. So I wore that in all different experiences.” He could have chosen any Omega, but the Railmaster is particularly interesting.
“The original Omega Railmaster goes back to '57 and was developed to be a tool for scientists,” says Fratello’s Robert-Jan Broer, “so it’s an excellent choice for a scientist in Jurassic World! Precise timekeeping in labs or other places where external factors could be of influence was important, so a highly anti-magnetic and water resistant watch was a necessity!"
Bailey is wearing the 60th Anniversary Speedmaster Railmaster, which was released in 2017. But to add to the beater fossil hunter vibes, a stainless steel bracelet is swapped for a leather strap. It’s a low-key, less dino-baiting set up that looks right at home with Loomis’ plaid shirts, chinos and brown leather boots.
“The 2017 Railmaster is a nod to that first reference CK2914, but became even better with today’s standards when it comes to anti-magnetism," adds Broer. "Where the cage of faraday functioned as an anti-magnetism construction in the past, the new Omega is designed in a more clever way, using anti-magnetic alloys for essential movement components. On top, the Railmaster still has this utilitarian look and feel to it. Understated, perfect for someone in the field.”
Here’s the history lesson. The Railmaster completes Omega’s trilogy of watches designed to make the wearer a master of whatever it is they’re dealing with. And just like the Seamaster is designed for the ocean, and the Speedmaster for racing, the Railmaster is designed for the railway (although if we’re being picky, it does technically fall under the Seamaster umbrella). It was designed with railway engineers and scientists in mind with its 1,000 gauss magnetic resistance (magnetism can mess with your watch's balance spring, causing it to run faster and less accurately). Obviously most watches are resistant to this stuff in 2025, but back then, this was top level horology produced only for a couple of years before it left the catalogue.
“The Omega Railmaster is a perfect fit for Dr. Henry Loomis: it’s built for adventure, tough enough for the field, and precise enough for a scientist. With its anti-magnetic movement and rugged design, it’s a watch that can handle the demands of a paleontologist while still looking effortlessly stylish. It’s a timepiece made for discovery,” says Stan Duin from Vintage Masters. Yes, the Railmaster is the kind of thing you can rock while you’re fighting dinosaurs, but it looks great with a suit, jeans, or any kind of chill fit. Basically – it’s an the ideal all-rounder.
The Railmaster doesn’t have James Bond and Nasa co-signs like the Seamaster and Speedmaster. But it is an understated reminder of Omega’s tool watch innovation that can be passed on between generations. Naturally this packs on the collector clout that gets proper watch guys going. Jonathan Bailey, who was introduced to Omega through his grandad’s vintage De Ville, falls into this camp, which makes his Jurassic World Rebirth watch all the more fitting. “There's a sense of endurance and strength to a watch that gets handed down through generations,” says Bailey. “The older I get, the more I think about legacy and about time and about how you spend it and how you cherish it.”

Riz has always had a Baron. So long as he can remember, so long as he lives.
They were playing MASH in second grade. He gets an apartment. He was going to live in Bastion City. He's going to be a garbage collector. And he's going to marry Cynthia.
Cynthia was... cool, he guesses. She had springy brown hair and dark green skin. An orc.
Riz remembers another girl in his class, Rose something, whisper loudly that he had a crush on Cynthia. He didn't contest it. Why would he, what did he know about crushes? Crushes were assigned, won in a game of MASH. Fate interwove them into a spiral that you call out stop to.
He swings next to her once on the swing set and when their rythym sinks up, Rose something shouts that they're married. He hops off the swing and Cynthia moves to Dune Fort that summer. He doesn't really notice she's gone.
---
Lumis and Riz have never share a class, but Riz sits with his back to him in the lunch room every day for two years. He hears how Lumis' friends laugh and his witty remarks and how interested he is in birds and trees and fossils.
In fifth grade, Riz gets switched last minute into Mrs. Goldhelm's class because Talindra signed up for classes late and Talindra isn't allowed to be in the same class as Riz anymore. Not since she pushed him into a trash can last year and told everyone he bit her.
Fate is funny like that. Send a bully to nudge you toward a crush. Riz's heart pounds and Mrs. Goldhelm points him to the empty seat next to Lumis.
The fire genasi smiles and Riz smiles back and they whisper about trilobites in between reading and math.
When he goes home that night, Riz writes in his Clues Journal new cursh on L?
A month later, Talindra spreads a rumor that Riz likes boys though and after that Lumis doesn't want to talk about carbon dating so much anymore. He doesn't want to talk about anything. Crushed in a different way, Riz stops writing in that journal.
---
Most of Riz's classmates go to Oakshield Middle, but Riz has a plan. He begs and makes presentations and leaves flyers until his mom agrees to let him transfer to Caskstone Middle. Aguefort's feeder school.
There's a lot of wannabe wizards and fauz fighters, but in the grade above him is Penny Luckstone.
She makes convoluted jokes in theives cant and Prestidigitates smeared chocolate on their bullies' pants. She wants to be a Master Rogue and Riz is definitely in love.
He knows it because he doesn't mind her 'babysitting' and he gets excited to tell her about new mysteries he uncovers and because he's devastated when she goes to high school and can't hang out as much anymore.
His mom says she's glad he has a friend, but he knows it's something more. Even if he doesn't 'feel butterflies' or 'want to kiss' or 'live in the same house as her.' It doesn't matter. He has a crush because he says so.
When she goes missing, it's like his whole world shrinks. He ignores the background relief that he will never have to hold her hand or ask her out.
---
Baron's name slips out before Riz can think of a single classmate he's interacted with in the past year who isn't in their party.
Aguefort has a pretty strict rule about inter-party dating (you have to spend a whole hour talking with Jawbone about your feelings and Riz doesn't have the time to give). He doesn't want to tempt Fate on the off chance that whoever he mentions having a crush on actually wants to date him.
Riz is too busy for dating. It's sophomore year and Riz can't handle another thing on his plate.
AV Club is already bogging him down. Adaine is gone this week and for whatever reason, Skrank gets on the topic of dating. Riz fight or flight reflex (the butterflies?) activates and he blurts out the first thing that comes to mind.
Baron.
No, Skrank doesn't no them. Yes, they're long distance. Yes, they're definitely dating. No, Baron isn't coming here anytime soon. Yes, Baron is from the Baronies.
The lie sinks deep in his stomach in a way Cynthia, Lumis, and Penny never did. Adaine's casual ponderings over the summer about being asexual cycle through his head. Kristen mentioning that the only partitioner at the Church of Yes? is aromantic swirls around him.
He ignores them, digs in deeper. When asked where he's getting his kisses in, at least he has an answer now.
---
When Baron manifests themself the first time, Riz almost feels vindicated. Riz is so alloromantic that his made up crushes become related. Nevermind that most alloromantic people don't actually know the term because most alloromantic people don't spend hours taking Fantasy Am I asexual? Buzzfeed quizzes.
When Baron manifests themself in the Nightmare Forest, Riz feels arrested. He can't move, can't breath. Surrounded by images of futures that he can't fake his way to. Confronted by the reality that he doesn't love people like he's supposed. But comforted by the truth from his dad that he doesn't need to love people any differently.
When Baron manifests themself tumbling through his briefcase, Riz feels ready. This shame he's tangled himself up in for so long chases after him and he prepares for it to slam through him just like always. But Baron doesn't overwhelm him. Just quietly insists that he's a part of Riz. And Riz accepts that. Baron is a part of him. Just like Cynthia and Lumis and Penny, he is part of the myth that Riz has created about himself.
But unlike his previous 'crushes,' Baron isn't going away. In everyway, they are Riz's romance partner. There is always going to be a part of Riz that wonders what he's missing out on. That will look at crumpled up notebook page with a MASH game scrawled onto it, a journal entry asking new cursh on L?, a photo of him and Penny in detention, and ask what he knew then that he doesn't know now.
Baron is firmly embedded where Cynthia and Lumis and Penny once were and because Baron isn't real, he never needs to be replace. Riz is free to never love anyone the way he thought he had. Riz is free to love himself as he is.

HHHHHHHH MORE
The Lambeosaurus (meaning "Lambe's Lizard"), is a genus of herbivorous hadrossaur from the Late Cretaceous, discovered in 1914 by several unnamed paleontologists in Canada, and named by William A. Parks to honor Lawrence M. Lambe's contribution to the creation of the stephanosaurus genus. The Lambeosaurus grew up to 7.7 meters (25 ft) in length and 3.3 tons in weight, and possessed the ability to walk quadrupedaly and bipedally. It held a large and distinct crest on it's head which was possibly used as a resonating device for sounds and/or a gender or species identification, it also helps distinguish juveniles from adult specimens due to it seemingly only growing in adulthood!! The Compsognathus (meaning "dainty/elegant jaw"), was a genus of small carnivorous theropod that lived in the Late Jurassic, more specifically during the Titonian Age, in Europe. It was discovered in the 1850s by Dr. Joseph Oberndorfer, in Balvaria, but wasn't described until 1859 by Johann A. Wagner. The Compsognathus is one of few dinosaurs known from a near complete fossil in good condition, and with a confirmed diet of small lizards. It was the smallest known non-avian dinosaur up until the 1990s and the specimen (which is assumedly a juvenile) showed them to only grow up to chicken sized!! The Baryonyx (meaning "heavy claw"), was a pescivourus genus of theropod from the early Cretaceous, it was discovered in 1983 by collector William J. Walker in Surrey, England. It was the first theropod that was found to be pescivourus (fish-eating), and is believed to have hunted in rivers alongside scavenging. It had a long and narrow snout with outward rising nostrils, an s-shaped neck with neural spines that grew longer as they moved down, a triangular crest on it's nasal bones, and a massive number of serrated teeth!! The Jakapil (meaning "shield bearer") was the first confimed genus of basal thyreophoran from Patagonia, Argentina It shows a close relation to Scelidosaurus and is currently placed in the same family as ankylosaurus and stegosaurus. However, due to its unusual appearance, moreso it's uncommon within the family bipedalness has caused some debate on its classification and role. The Achillobator (meaning "Achilles Hero/Warrior") was discovered in a joint Mongolian and Russian expedition set in the Gobi Desert in 1989. However, it wasn't officially named until Mongolian Paleontologist Altangerel Pereal and the Americans Jim Clark and Mark Norell gave a description of the partial fossil in 1999. As of current, the Achillobator is one of the largest Dromaeosaurids reaching 4.5-5 meters (15-16 feet) in length and around 300 kg (660 lbs) in mass. Although it doesn't have any trace of feathers, the presence of them is highly supported by close relatives!!
That's it for now I think, I can get more if you want more, I still have alot in my filing cabinets of research :]
(Cold presses his hands, gloved, against your cheeks, and presses firm kisses against your skin, repeatedly. There is a yellow blanket around his shoulders, and he smells vaguely of lemons.) Silence. Just, be quiet, for now.

Having Sad Winter Thoughts
So wanted to reminisce about an event that I've always kept close to my heart concerning my late mother (tho she didn't play much of an active part, tbh!)
She was a collector (hot wheels, barbies, Peanuts merch... and a variety of collectable trading cards that circulated before I was born), and she always encouraged my brother and I to keep what we had in good condition because "it could be worth something later". And back before we could make our own money and when she'd buy us anything collectable, like our Pokemon cards, she'd ask us for any Repeats to keep for herself.
I always remembered the old Lego-like wipes box (Chubs Stackables, its called) that she used to keep her Pokemon cards in because of a story that I never forgot.
Pokemon came to America when i was seven, and Cards came out shortly afterward. Us kids were understandably nuts about it, so much so that I still remember an announcement in my elementary school that was banning them outright on school grounds, stereotypically pronouncing them as "Pokey man cards."
We lived in a cul de sac at the time with a bunch of other military families (dad was in the airforce). It was very Ed Edd n Eddy where we knew and interacted with a lot of the kids, and their parents were more a Concept than a reality. So of course, when fads hit, it swept through the street like wildfire. We all were into pokemon.
Even as a seven year old, baby Verzi had her "White Whales" when it came to collecting, cuz the thing I actually want is never easy to get apparently!
For those who were there, you'd remember that the first 151 pokemon were released in 3 sets (Base, Jungle, and Fossil). And in Jungle, my favorite pokemon ever and forever, Butterfree, was released! It was uncommon, so surely, it wouldnt be too difficult. find, right?
Incorrect!!!!!
It took me a good year or so to find, and it drove me fucking insane because when you're little, any small amount of time feels like an eternity!!! But the point of this story takes place earlier. One of the neighborhood kids, an older one who was probably 10-12ish. had an extra butterfree. I coveted it and wanted to trade. He asked for my rare, non-holo Nidoqueen (some rares had holo and non-holo versions. Just to be extra mean. Always remember trading cards are an evolutionary stepping stone to bad gacha games!).
But!! I only had one of those.
But x2!!! I remembered I pulled a duplicate and gave it to my mother.
So i had one of those moments after-school specials had. "Am I gonna steal from my kind and hardworking mother to fulfill my Greedy Little 7/8 year old fantasies??" The answer was yes, though it took a lot of back and forth because back when my mother was younger, she had eyes like a hawk for anything out of place. This woman made sure no one went into her shit in her room. Luckily, she kept her card box in a place that was easily accessible outside (the kitchen counter).
So i went into her blue, little box and took the Nidoqueen I had given her, and made the trade.
I was happy for a good bit, and the butterfree looked so beautiful in my 3 ring card binder! but then the guilt set in. It was crippling.
It only took a couple days before I couldn't take it anymore. So I went back to Older Neighborhood kid. Luckily, Older Neighborhood Kid was cool and let us trade backsies.
Then I secretly slipped the Nidoqueen back into my mom's collection box.
I am 95% sure she never found out, as she wasn't keeping a detailed log of the cards, but I always felt this was a character defining point for me. 😏
I thought about this recently, because in another fit of I Miss my Mom, I had actually found her old card collection box and spent some time going through it.
Unfortunately, the Nidoqueen of my Memory was not present. It could've disappeared for any number of reasons, as it has been ~25 years, several moves, and other events that caused a lot of my mom's stuff to disappear or be thrown away...
But at the very bottom, i found this.
Tumblr media
So either I or my brother was able to get her butterfree at some point. 😌 (actual jungle set too! look at the little flower at the bottom right of the card art~)
I honestly have no idea where my own pokemon card collection is. My younger cousins raided and stole a lot of them back when i was in high school, and it never recovered. But I do not know where the remnants are. I'm still in the years-long process of getting through all of the stuff in my apartment and I'm hoping I come across it.
But I'm happy to know i have this card though. My mom's butterfree.

The Robins’ Animal Crossing New Horizons Islands:
Dick: Sunk all of his time and effort into finding his dream villagers and nothing else. His gameplay is 100% doing missions for Nookmiles and blowing them all on mystery island tickets. He likes the jock villagers and all the ones that look dorky (he has a lot of mice). His island is completely unfinished because he’s spent no time on it, there’s piles of materials everywhere and all of the houses are in random locations, but he has his Boys(tm) and that’s enough. Has guest rooms in his house for when his siblings come to visit his island.
Jason: Put a lot of time into terraforming the perfect island. It has a very natural theme and every home has a little nook it fits in like a cottage in the woods. Very calm little island. Has a mix of jock, normal, and peppy villagers because he built a house plot and let the game choose random villagers for him. The ones he wants to get rid of refuse to leave and he spends a lot of time building pitfalls around their property and hitting them with nets so they fuck off. Does not visit Dick’s island, and when he does, it’s to trample his flowers and leave.
Tim: The “Collector” player. Set up his island from the very beginning for max efficiency and speed. His pet peeve of the game is the absurd amount of useless menus. Never talks to the nooklings and only uses the drop off box, and doesn’t use the Nookstop terminal for anything but money deposits. All of the shops/the museum are in one line right beside his house and he’s constantly time travelling to get all of the seasonal bugs and fish. His island is a mess of workbenches and loose materials everywhere. He has a small handful of villagers he cares very much for, they’re all just random and he got attached. Visits Dick’s island regularly.
Steph: Cute, soft island theme. Put a lot of time into finding and growing all the flower types and is an expert at flower breeding, has a wealth of fruit trees and crops in neat little orchards and makes bank off the Nooklings. Sought out all of the cute villagers (and Cranston) from the mystery islands and made them a neighbourhood, and is absolutely ruthless to the villagers that move it uninvited. No one else knows how she gets them off her island so fast, and she will not give up her secret. Has caught every insect, does not care much for fish. Visits Dick’s island every now and then, takes things left on the ground.
Damien: His island is one massive Work in Progress because he’s trying to make one of those complex city designs and getting all of the items takes forever. Has collected every fossil because they kept popping up and getting in his way, and only catches the fish and bugs so he can listen to Blathers’ fun facts. Likes the smug and big sister type villagers the most, and puts any he doesn’t want on his island in “jail” (read: a complex maze of pitfalls and scary decorations). Spends a lot of time resource-grinding and has hundreds of everything. Visits Dick’s island so he can critique his design choices (and steal the tree furniture).

Australian Pokemon: 3 regional standards
another set of fakemon from my original Goorda region, based on Australia and Aotearoa/New Zealand (though mostly Australia). This time I'm covering 3 regional standard lines: The early game bug and the fossils. Previous posts: creepy lines, regional variants, birds, early-game standards, misc 2, misc 1, starter variants, starters.
The early game bug is Larvanette, the larva Pokemon, bug-type. As soon as they are born, Larvanette are wrapped in a silk cocoon by their parents that they will stay in until evolved. Different Larvanette live in differently-colored cocoons so collectors sometimes seek out all the variants.
Tumblr media
Larvanette is based on a weevil. Weevils are beetles that often have very long snouts. The way it is wrapped in its cocoon is based on a way babies are often wrapped up in blankets. There are multiple color variants (seen on the side of the drawing) with varying variety, white being the rarest. In an actual game this would just be a cosmetic difference, like the color variants of the Flabebe line. Its name comes from "larva" and "bassinet". The color of a Larvanette carries over to its evolved forms.
Larvanette evolves to Weavil, the weaver Pokemon, bug-type. Weavil secrete colorful silk from their upper set of hands, then use the needle-like fingers on their lower hands to weave that silk for many purposes. This silk is very soft and very strong, so Weavil are often caught to use their silk for clothing and other fabrics. Weavil are not particularly good at fighting so many trainers don't bother with them. However, a trainer who sticks with their Weavil for a long time may find it holds hidden potential.
Tumblr media
Weavil is based on an adult weevil and is intended to look like a motherly figure wearing a silk cardigan and sewing something new. The color of that cardigan and its silk will change based on the color of the Larvanette it evolved from. Its name is obviously a pun on "weevil" and "weave". I picture evolving Weavil as being challenging, possibly requiring a specific item or needing to be at a pretty high level. Its like Magikarp, stick with it and it gets really good.
The final form of Larvanette is Weevilong, the Weevil Pokemon, bug/dragon type. Weevilong are said to evolve only from the eldest of Weavil and are so rare many do not believe they exist. They are said to weave clouds into their pelts, which gives them the ability to fly. Because of their advanced age, Weevilong are said to be very wise and calm, slow to anger but unstoppable when riled up.
Tumblr media
Weevilong is based on the New Zealand giraffe weevil and the Madagascar giraffe weevil, which are highly elongated weevils. It is also based on eastern dragons, who tend to be serpentine, can fly without wings, and are often quite hairy. In this case, its silk instead of hair. The color variants gimmick follows through like with its pre-evos. While the first two stages have typical early game bug stats, Weevilong is a badass with near pseudo-legendary stats. Its name comes from "weevil" and "long". Long both as in the Chinese dragons and, well, it's a long bug.
Moving into the fossils, I looked for Australian fossils and no species I found really inspired me. However I did find a few things that gave me ideas and I decided to combine those with an era of geological history that Pokemon hasn't touched yet: the Permian.
The first fossil Pokemon, revived from the Electrified Fossil, is Shail, the Sail-Back Pokemon, electric/rock type. The sail on its back contain special cells that generate electricity when exposed to sunlight. It would bask in the sun in the morning to power itself up before hunting in the afternoon.
Tumblr media
Shail evolves to Galvodon, the Sail-Back Pokemon, electric/rock type. The spines on its back contain special organs that generate large amounts of electricity. When fully charged, the space between its spines fill up with arching electricity, forming a sail. Even millions of years later, it's fossilized bones still hold an electric charge.
Tumblr media
Shail and Galvodon are based on dimetrodon, the famous sail-backed synapsid very commonly mistaken for a Dinosaur even though it was extinct long before they came around. I drew inspiration from the lightning beast, an ornithopod dinosaur so called because it was discovered in Australia's lightning ridge. Shail basking in the sun to build up electricity in its sail is a reference to the common hypothesis that dimetrodon used their sails to regulate their body temperature. By basking with the sail facing the sun, it would warm up. Galvodon's back spines are based on tesla coils and the sails aren't flesh, they're raw electricity. Shail's name comes from "shale" and "sail" while Galvodon's name comes from "Luigi Galvani" (who studied bio-electricity in animals), "galvanism" (electricity generated by chemical reactions), and "dimetrodon".
The other fossil Pokemon, revived from the Opal Fossil, is Tuscal, the Opal Tooth Pokemon, psychic/rock type. The gemstone on its forehead has the power to sense the mind of other Pokemon, letting it detect prey and predators without seeing them. Its teeth are made from a psychically-active form of opal.
Tumblr media
Tuscal evolves to Gorgopal, the Opal Fang Pokemon, psychic/rock type. It used its psychic powers to predict the actions of prey before they were even made, making it the apex predator of its time. Its opal fangs transmit large amounts of psychic energy, paralyzing the nervous systems of anything it bites.
Tumblr media
Tuscal and Gorgopal are based on gorgonsids, powerful, saber-toothed Permian predators. They are also based on opalized fossils. These are fossils that are made of opal due to the conditions where they fossilized. Most opalized fossils are from Australia. The opal on the forehead that gives these Pokemon their powers is based both on the common third eye imagery associated with psychic powers and with parietal eyes, which are simple light-sensing eyes possessed by most modern reptiles and (possibly) by gorgonopsids. Tuscal's name comes from "tusk" and "opal" while Gorgopal's name comes from "gorgonopsid" and "opal".

this whole matter of trying to sell things is so boring and distasteful. can you put some very bad (or very good) pattern ideas/requests in my ask to take my mind off it? please and thank you. anon is on.
I do want to start kicking these collections out the door on a two-week schedule (/shill) so the more nonsense ideas milling around of my brain the better, for once. Some off the top of my head:
Dressing Table – High Femme/Old Queen/Pickled Egg boudoir kitsch. Perfume bottles and roses in bell jars and Persian cat figurines and Art Nouveau vanity sets etc.
Viscera – Offal, just offal.
Diatoms, Animalcules, etc. These would especially be fun if I can figure out how to design round motifs (I've done one and it was just okay-looking and very hard) to mimic a microscope view.
Pollen grains – In a similar vein, my mother was a palynologist and I'd love to do a set of black-background motifs in the style of scanning electron micrographs.
Philately – I was a terrible stamp collector as a child (catastrophically disorganized from the word go), but I have a "postage stamp" border treatment I've been wanting to use.
Cryptids & Company – Mostly I just liked the title, "Putative Extinctions and 'Living Fossils'" is probably more the thing. Cryptids-as-such being culture-bound, I'd either want to limit myself to white-people cryptids (so like the loch ness monster and whom else? mothman?), which is it's own kind of weird, or solicit design/editorial assistance from someone qualified.
Turtle Island Food Science – American Thanksgiving is my problematic favourite holiday, and maybe that specific title is too dippy-white-Liberal to fly, but I do want to do a collection of Indigenous North American cultivated plants at some point.
Rune Stones – I was a teenage, twenty-something neopagan twenty years ago, it's true, but I still think this would be cute.
Things people actually buy at vendor markets – and it's just like, a knockoff Stanley mug, American junk food smuggled up from North Dakota, MLM leggings, essential oil jewellery and pickles

We've hit Fall Thursday in the Chill Valicer Save today, and you know what that means -- Harvestfest! And they had a FREAKING BUSY Harvestfest, let me tell you -- if I counted correctly, this update has NINETY PICTURES in total. Yeah, uh, it's actually a pretty good thing that we can upload more than ten to a post now, isn't it? O.O
Anyway! Morning started off pretty tamely and typically -- Smiler, freshly retraited after the end of the last episode, took Shadow out on a nice walk, while Alice went upstairs to gather inspiration from their fish and then start a new book (a motivational book called "Solving Your Problems With Trains" ;) ) and Victor woke from sleep and got right on studying his Nimble Mind and Emotional Stability potion tomes. I do think it's very cool how higher-level spellcasters have the books float in front of them like that. . . Anyway, Victor discovered three things from all that reading -- the recipe for the Nimble Mind potion (requires parsley and a spotted dirt frog -- figured even if Smiler didn't have that in their collection, they could breed it eventually); the recipe for the Emotional Stability potion (requires a potato and obtanium -- again, even if Alice didn't have that in her metal collection, she could dig it up eventually); and --
The fact that the fossil display shelves made by @somecreativecc ALSO FUNCTION AS A BOOKCASE. O.o Uh, SomeCreative, was -- was that intentional? I'm not COMPLAINING, I just find it a touch bizarre? *shakehead* So, yeah, Victor's tomes went in there with the fossils once he was done with them and gotten his magical "free samples." *shrug* Like I said, not complaining, just -- slightly confused.
Now -- while all this was going on, I was also checking both Shadow and Kelly for signs of illness, because, as you may remember last time, I found a couple of random puddles of sick around the place and wasn't sure which pet was producing them. Shadow seemed fine on her walk, and when I looked around the house again, I found another puddle of sick by one of Kelly's scratching posts. This really seemed to indicate that it was poor Kelly who wasn't feeling well --
A hypothesis confirmed when she came over to hang out with Alice near her desk while she wrote, and another puddle of sick appeared right next to her. I had Victor use Scruberoo to clean up all the sick, then go pamper Kelly with a little brushing as I tried to determine what was wrong. I mean, after all, the cat didn't LOOK ill -- Sim illnesses in both pets and people tend to be pretty visible! The only other explanation I could think of was poor Kelly had hairballs, which -- would be very impressive on a hairless cat like herself! I made a note to get her to the vet later, and she eventually ran off to do more cat things. Leaving more sick behind her. *sigh*
With THAT mystery solved, and Victor's potions learned, I decided it was time for him to get back on fabricating stuff -- namely because I wanted to do some more eco upgrades around the house. So he headed down to the barn, where -- after Repairioing all the broken wind turbines and water collectors, and setting out some sacred candles to help with his still-broken "Fear Of The Dark" moodlet and the scary noises around the house -- he proceeded to make another eco upgrade part. (Really wish I could made those in BULK, but what are you gonna do.) I then sent him to the garden to do the usual tending -- weeding, watering, fertilizing -- as Alice continued working on her book (maxing out the Writing skill in the process! Go Alice!) and Smiler came back from their walk with Shadow. The doggo went to hang with Victor in the greenhouse as he started harvesting, while Smiler entertained Kelly and Alice finished up her book, submitted it to the literary digest (because obviously this guide on Bumby murder deserves it), then went to clean the chicken coop and entertain the cowplant -- which, since we seem to be keeping it for the time being, I decided to name "Toothy." I mean, if the large drooling maw full of sharp teeth fits...

Solar Collector Market: Key Growth Drivers Powering the Global Expansion of the Sector Today
Tumblr media
Solar Collector Market Drivers
Government Support and Renewable Energy Policies
Governments across the world are increasingly implementing favorable policies and mandates to promote the adoption of renewable energy sources, including solar thermal systems. Regulatory frameworks such as tax incentives, subsidies, rebates, feed-in tariffs, and zero-emission goals are among the top drivers pushing the solar collector market forward. Countries like India and China have actively integrated solar energy into their national energy strategies. In Europe, Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) schemes and Solar District Heating (SDH) programs continue to incentivize residential and industrial installations of solar collectors. This policy-driven environment enhances affordability and encourages large-scale investments in solar thermal technologies.
Environmental and Climate Change Concerns
With the rising urgency to mitigate climate change and reduce carbon emissions, solar collectors are gaining traction as an eco-friendly alternative to traditional fossil fuel-based heating systems. Solar collectors produce zero-emission heat, making them a preferred solution in both residential and commercial settings. As global organizations and governments commit to achieving net-zero carbon goals, the demand for solar thermal technologies is set to rise significantly.
Advancements in Solar Thermal Technology
Technological innovations are playing a crucial role in enhancing the performance, reliability, and affordability of solar collectors. Notable advancements include:
Evacuated Tube Collectors: Offer high efficiency even in colder and cloudier climates.
Concentrating Solar Collectors: Used for industrial high-temperature processes and capable of delivering more focused heat.
Hybrid Systems: Photovoltaic-Thermal (PVT) collectors combine electricity and heat generation in one system.
Smart Controllers and IoT Integration: Enable real-time monitoring and operational optimization.
Nanotechnology: Nanofluids and advanced coatings are being developed to improve heat transfer efficiency and thermal absorption.
These innovations are not only reducing costs but also expanding the application range of solar thermal systems across different sectors.
Cost Decline and Improved ROI
One of the most significant drivers of solar collector adoption is the substantial reduction in overall system costs. Advances in manufacturing, increased competition, and economies of scale have brought down the prices of solar components, including collectors, mounting systems, and thermal storage. As a result, the return on investment (ROI) has improved, particularly for commercial and industrial users. These cost reductions have helped solar collectors become a more economically viable solution in both developed and emerging markets.
Growing Demand for Industrial Process Heat
Industries such as food processing, pharmaceuticals, textiles, chemicals, and pulp & paper require large volumes of thermal energy for processes such as drying, pasteurization, and sterilization. The use of solar collectors for industrial process heat (IPH) is rapidly gaining momentum, especially as companies aim to reduce their carbon footprint and improve sustainability metrics. Governments are also encouraging this transition by offering grants and low-interest loans for solar heat installations in the industrial sector.
Energy Security and Independence
The volatility of fossil fuel prices and the need for energy security have prompted governments and businesses to diversify their energy sources. Solar thermal systems offer a decentralized, reliable, and renewable heat source that helps reduce dependence on imported fuels. In regions with less reliable electricity infrastructure, solar collectors provide a practical and independent solution for hot water and space heating.
Smart City Initiatives and Urban Growth
Urbanization and the rise of smart cities have created a fertile environment for the integration of energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technologies. Solar collectors are increasingly being incorporated into municipal buildings, hospitals, schools, and district heating networks as part of broader sustainable infrastructure programs. These systems help cities reduce operating costs, lower emissions, and promote clean energy usage.
Strong Market Growth in Developing Regions
While mature markets in North America and Europe continue to invest in high-performance solar thermal systems, developing regions in Asia-Pacific, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa are emerging as high-potential growth markets. High solar irradiance, growing energy demand, and increasing awareness of renewable energy benefits are driving adoption in these areas. Additionally, international collaborations and financing programs are supporting solar collector deployment in remote and off-grid communities.
Opportunities on the Horizon
Future market opportunities include:
Hybrid Integration: Combining solar collectors with biomass or heat pumps to provide continuous heating.
Thermal Storage: Innovations in thermal batteries and storage tanks are enabling energy use during non-sunny hours.
District Heating Expansion: Using centralized solar thermal plants to provide heating for residential complexes and towns.
Commercial Applications: Hotels, spas, and healthcare facilities are investing in solar hot water systems to reduce operational costs.
Conclusion
The solar collector market is experiencing strong momentum, fueled by favorable government policies, environmental concerns, technological advancements, and the falling cost of implementation. As industries seek sustainable heat solutions and households pursue energy independence, solar thermal systems are becoming increasingly popular. However, challenges such as intermittency, high upfront costs, and competition from photovoltaic systems must still be addressed. Moving forward, companies that innovate in hybrid systems, storage solutions, and cost-efficient designs will be best positioned to capture growth in the evolving global solar collector market.

Why is the Pokémon Legendary Collection Booster Box So Valuable?
The Pokemon Legendary Collection Booster Box has become one of the most sought-after items in the world of Pokémon collectibles. As collectors and fans continue to dive into the nostalgia of early Pokémon sets, this booster box stands out not just for its content but for the value it holds. At Panda Shop, we’ve witnessed firsthand the growing interest in vintage Pokémon cards, and this collection is no exception. Whether you’re a dedicated collector or someone new to the scene, understanding why this particular box commands such attention is crucial.
Historical Significance of the Pokémon Legendary Collection Booster Box
One of the primary reasons the Pokemon Legendary Collection Booster Box holds such value is its deep historical significance. Released in 2002, it was the first set to reintroduce classic cards from Base, Jungle, Fossil, and Team Rocket into one product. It represented a turning point in the trading card game, reviving beloved characters and card designs. Collectors view this set as a tribute to the golden era of Pokémon, making it an essential piece for any serious collection.
Unique Reverse Holofoil Design Sets It Apart
Another feature that makes the Pokemon Legendary Collection Booster Box stand out is the introduction of the reverse holofoil design. This was the first time fans saw this now-standard feature, where the entire card background shimmered while the image remained matte. This innovation added visual appeal and excitement to pack openings. The reverse holofoil cards from this collection are not only aesthetically striking but also unique to the set, boosting their desirability.
Limited Production Increases Collector Demand
The Pokemon Legendary Collection Booster Box was not mass-produced compared to other sets, and that scarcity plays a major role in its current market value. With fewer boxes available, sealed versions have become incredibly rare, especially in mint condition. Collectors are constantly looking for unopened boxes, and the shrinking supply only drives up demand. Unlike modern releases that get multiple print runs, this set had a limited production window.
Features Iconic Cards That Fans Still Adore
Many fans seek the Pokemon Legendary Collection Booster Box because it contains reprints of some of the most iconic cards in Pokémon history. From Charizard to Blastoise, these cards represent the very core of what made Pokémon card collecting popular in the first place. Although these are reprints, their inclusion in the Legendary Collection gives them renewed appeal, especially when presented in the new reverse holofoil format.
Strong Investment Potential Over Time
Beyond nostalgia, the Pokemon Legendary Collection Booster Box is also viewed as a strong long-term investment. Over the years, its value has steadily increased, outperforming many modern trading card sets. As Pokémon's popularity continues to rise globally, vintage collectibles like this booster box become even more desirable. Whether you’re a seasoned investor or a casual collector, holding onto one of these boxes could yield significant returns. It offers the rare combination of emotional value and financial potential.
Popularity Fueled by Online Influencers and Streamers
The resurgence of interest in Pokémon cards has been driven in part by influencers and streamers, many of whom feature the Pokemon Legendary Collection Booster Box in high-profile unboxing videos. These online showcases create buzz and highlight the box’s rare contents, which drives further demand. When fans see their favorite creators opening these nostalgic packs, it stirs excitement and emotional connection.
Strong Emotional Appeal for Long-Time Fans
Finally, the emotional factor behind the Pokemon Legendary Collection Booster Box cannot be overstated. For many, it brings back childhood memories of the early 2000s Pokémon craze. Opening a pack from this box offers more than just a card—it offers an experience filled with nostalgia, wonder, and joy. That emotional resonance is something modern sets often can’t replicate. Collectors at Panda Shop often share their stories of reconnecting with their childhood through this collection, making it more than just a product.
Conclusion
The Pokemon Legendary Collection Booster Box isn’t just a collector’s item; it’s a piece of Pokémon history that continues to captivate fans and collectors alike. With its rich legacy, limited availability, and emotional resonance, it remains one of the most valuable booster boxes on the market today. Whether you’re drawn by nostalgia, investment potential, or the thrill of uncovering iconic cards, this box delivers a truly unique experience. At Panda Shop, we understand its unmatched appeal and are proud to be a part of your journey into the world of premium Pokémon collecting. Its value will only continue to grow with time.
