The Medarda arc of s2 struggled to be good, because the plot viciously smothered it. You can argue that Arcane was never about politics but you cannot say the Medardas were never explicitly a family defined by politics. So when the show shifted it's priorities from a drama steeped in political conflict where even though the setting was fantastical the stakes were grounded to a shift where magic is the end all be all threat to humanity, the Medardas are rendered largely irrelevant.

In s2 Mel's agency over her own story is both largely stripped from her and poorly communicated. Arcane has Mel abducted from the plot to be the Black Rose's captive. Even when Mel manages to free herself it's not through the traits the audience understands are her strengths, her cunning and social intelligence, it's through an innate instinct that natural to her and indecipherable to the audience.

Ambessa as a character is more or less a villain of convenience, which would be fine if she wasn't immediately following Silco's act. Once Mel is removed from the story Ambessa is largely disconnected from any emotional tension fuels conflict between the characters and previously drove the plot in s1. She's there to play the worse bad guy for Caitlyn and then give Viktor the man power for the Glorious Evolution.

It's frustrating to see the Medardas used the way they are in s2 because when they're together I can see how it could be good. When they're together Mel forces emotion out of Ambessa. In Act 1, Ambessa proved she could do circles around Piltover's court, which could actually put Mel in a tight spot.

Their final scene on paper sounds like a good idea where the true resolution to Mel and Ambessa's story was that Ambessa saw Mel's own ruthless behavior as she not only betrayed Ambessa to the Black Rose, but used her as BAIT to double cross LeBlanc. Ambessa died proud that her daughter killed her the way she did, and that's so cool and tragic, but the execution was a flop.

One, their final fight is completely unimportant to the actual Glorious Evolution, Mel's grief can't even be a highlight because it's interrupted by Viktor's mind trap. Two, their fight didn't rely on any of Mel's actual strengths, just magic and the poorly explained MacGuffin LeBlanc gave her. How did Mel even know it would do that?

It's like the writers had the bones for a great story for the Medardas, but then they're like the world's worst archeologists and fit those bones together in the worst way possible because they were convinced the bones made a stegasaurus instead of a T-rex or something.

Every time I end up talking about the void state, there is a part of me that tends to raise awareness about the void itself. It is a thing the void does not help you manifest, like the void state. In this post, I will try my best to explain how much these two things are truly different.

WARNING: COGNITO HAZARD (For those who do not know, a cognito hazard is a term used to describe an image, pattern, sound, or any other kind of sensory signal that directly causes harmful or undesired physiological or physical effects to one who senses or perceives it. (It is specifically used as a warning when talking about "forced awakening" things like the void.)

let's get deeper in this rabbit hole shall we? 

i will talk breefly about the void state and then i will get in a more detailed way into what the void is, just because i aready explained the void state many times.

the void state:

is a state of deep meditation where you feel like floating and feel nothingness embodies you, making you feel one with the universe helping you to manifest. (Click the name if you actually want to know more.)

the void:

The void is nothing and everything at the same time. Let me explain better: the void is a place where everything is possible and exists, but at the same time is impossible and does not exist.  The thing is, the void in itself is a pass to every other dimension because every dimension resides in the void, even the cursed ones or the ones that never will be or never were timelines.  As a person with a lot of experience in the void itself, I will tell you that it is not a nice place.  Every kind of entity can catch you, good or evil, whatever they might be. As mere humans in the void, we are exposed to a lot of deep-rooted energy that corrupts our bodies in the long run. 

As humans, in the void, we can only "survive" in the backrooms.

what is a backroom?

One thing that is definitely more popular than the void itself are the backrooms that reside in the void. The backrooms became popular around 2012 as a SCP thing as images of liminal spaces. But I assure you, they are pretty much real, and they have many levels, not in a specific order. On every level, we can find different things and different entities, as mentioned before. We can find the good ones that will try to keep you safe and the bad ones that will literally try to kill you. 

I will also add that the backroom exists because we are the front room, so for every timeline in existence, there is a backroom, and much like the universe, the void is pretty much endless, so there are infinite possibilities for the frontroom and the backroom.

why im i telling you this?

because I talk from experience, and let me tell you some of them were not fun. Still to this day, when I go to sleep, I find myself in the void. Bruh, I don't know how it simply happens. And that's been my life since I was 14 years old. I had my time to understand and learn a few rules to exit the backrooms fast enough or not to be killed. 

I will put them at the end, but first, a little check on the main differences that we found out about the void state and the void itself:

The void state is a meditation; the void is an "endless place.".

The void can be a dangerous place, but the void state is harmless.

The void state helps us connect with the universe; the void is not used to manifest.

The void is a constant state of rooted energy, which means, in more basic words, that the energy in the void is dirty, and on the long run, a normal human will not "survaive.". In the void state, it is your energy.

In the void state, we find only ourselves; in the void, we can find an endless amount of dimensions, timelines, frontrooms and backrooms, entities, and liminal spaces. Some are all put together.

If you decide to go into the void state, it is a conscious decision. You can mistakenly enter the void by just falling asleep.

Those are the main differences, just because I can't say much more about the void itself because, as said before, it is a forced awakening, and I don't want people to feel sick with too much information. 

if by mystake you enter the backrooms here some rules that will help you get out faster:

Don't scream; you will give off your location to any type of entity. In whatever level you enter, you will find the exit in the same level.

Not every level is scary. Some have flowers and are pretty; others are simple rooms. Those levels are safe as long as you don't hurt yourself. Be careful.

Don't take stairs, and don't jump in holes or on poles. Again, you will find the exit on the same level as you entered.

If you see fluffy entities, look at their eyes first. If the eyes are blue, they are friendly; any other color is to be avoided.

There is only one entity that is 100% friendly and will help you. It looks like a shadow with no features; it does not talk, but you will understand her.

If you hear a sound, go in the opposite direction; if you feel like a sound surrounds you, hide and stay still no matter what; some entities don't have eyes.

If you can't find the exit, pray to whatever god you believe in, and good entities will find you and help you.

On rare occasions, you might find other humans; don't trust them; they are no longer humans.

Dear Brother: Ch04 Supplemental Lore - Inactive Duty Siblings

In the setting of Dear Brother, some of the ranks within the Dark Brotherhood have been altered or are wholly new. Below, you will find explanations for those who do not carry out Sacraments. Inactive Duty Siblings mostly remain in the Sanctuary to learn doctrine or provide support to their Active Duty Siblings.

Crowcaller

A Crowcaller is a specialized role responsible for hatching*, training, and caring for the Deep Eyed Crows. Crowcallers are spiritually-sensitive and able to interpret the needs of Void-blessed creatures. They must possess some level of Conjuration training, as they also craft “Crowstones” for their local Speaker and Silencer. These fragile runestones are carefully carved into shale and carried by traveling Claws - rather than keeping a crow on their person throughout their journey, they break a stone to instantly summon one to their position as needed.

In special cases, Crowcallers may be asked to manage alternate courier arrangements.

*No one is entirely sure where the eggs come from.

Providers, Menders, & Healers

These roles actually make up the majority of a typical Sanctuary. Sometimes, these are Siblings whose expertise is something other than combat; other times, these may be Siblings who cannot complete Sacraments for various reasons. Regardless, they are full members of a Sanctuary and Family: they are still given basic defensive training and taught to uphold the Tenets just as those who carry out Sacraments are. A Sanctuary could not function without these necessary Siblings supporting its very foundation.

Providers handle the Sanctuary’s meal-prep and supplies of clean water. Menders are the Sanctuary’s craftspeople, managing the creation and upkeep of weaponry, armor, and art. Healers tend to the physical well-being of others within the Sanctuary, whether that be through the magicka of alchemy and Restoration or through physical means of doctoring.

It's common for these Siblings to hold undercover positions in nearby towns. For example, a Mender might work in a town's forge or tannery, granting them further access to tools and supplies which any given Sanctuary needs but might not have.

Initiate

This is a newly-arrived member of the Family who has proven their commitment to joining. However, they are not yet full members, and are thus disallowed freedom of movement before baptism. To put it bluntly, the Initiate role is used entirely for brainwashing: they are isolated from laity and opposing viewpoints, provided support only through other Family members, and fed a strict diet of Brotherhood doctrine.

If an Initiate resists strongly during this stage, they are killed. The killing of an Initiate is regarded as a failing on the part of the teachers rather than the Initiate themself. Following an incident like this, Family is encouraged to mourn the death as they would for any Sibling and to use it as motivation in future cases.

After an Initiate undergoes their Woeful Baptism, they are welcomed into the Family as an Unblooded Murderer. The quality of their first Sacrament will determine whether they continue training as an Active Duty rank, return to an Inactive Duty role, or a secret third thing (die).

I was having a conversation with a friend, who started their own DID journey around the same time as me. Our recovery goals are different (they call their goal "the Zygarde method" which, if you've seen mention of the Wishiwashi method on this blog, has a lot of similarities to that), and we're in different places of recovery right now (they've very much reached functional multiplicity at this time and we have not), but it's been really nice to have someone grow with me side by side as we figure out our DID together.

We all know what integration and fusion is, right? Integration is the breaking down of dissociation between parts, fusion is when two parts become one part. But I've realized more and more that the nuances behind what "fusion" is may look different from system to system. For one system, fused parts think and act as one identity with no distinct parts. For another, fused parts are aware of the individual composite pieces of themselves and may even be aware of when a specific piece is the "most prominent" piece at that time. Still another system experiences fusion as being a conglomerate of pieces who, while still distinct, are all sharing thoughts and feelings and memories and opinions with each other and are so in sync they effectively seem to be one identity. And these are just a few examples of what "fusion" may look like.

I think it's beautiful how our experiences can be so different from each other yet there's still a sort of common thread tying all of this together into the same concept that we call "fusion". But I also think that how fusion has been talked about in DID spaces has been so limiting and seems to paint it as only one thing. No wonder some people are hesitant to pursue fusion if they believe it to be akin to losing the multiple parts into one larger part. I encourage people to try to expand their understanding of "fusion" and "identity" and "self", and try to understand what all of that means for you and your system.

the jujutsu system is not one that operates independently because it's state-sanctioned, and i wonder if that (along with the cultural context of tradition and hierarchy) is one of the reasons why gojo chose to stay and try to change things from the inside.

really cannot express how anxiety-inducing the social justice and awareness corner of this website is. i feel like i am constantly playing whack-a-mole with posts and users who do long-winded screeds about how i should or shouldn't behave or think, what i should or shouldn't say, what i should or shouldn't consume (be it food or media or material goods). the world is on fire and i am barely holding on by a gossamer thread on the very best of days, and the site i come on to look at funny pictures of tv shows feels like a fucking minefield of judgment, finger-wagging, and shame every time i log on. i don't care if it's well-intended. i don't care if you've got a fucking doctorate in social psychology or community organizing and you know your shit. i don't even care if i agree with what you're saying. i'm fucking tired. i'm fucking exhausted. i need a fucking space where i can go where i'm not being picked to death about the things i'm doing wrong or that i need to be more vigilant about or just being constantly shouted at with reminders of the specific awfuls in modern society. i know they're awful. i am alive, i am aware, i exist in this world. i want, for just a bit, to forget how fucking awful it is.

back to thinking about that worst timeline princess AU concept where luz and hunter end up with camila in the human realm when camila hasn't met vee and doesn't know about the isles. & so camila thinks that the two of them have just been held captive together for years.

i'm mainly thinking about my 100% certainty that luz would develop a Crippling case of agoraphobia for..... very obvious reasons. double-checked the definition just now because i was like "i'm pretty sure it's no longer referred to as a fear of being outside??" and yeah -- it's a fear of being in environments where you'll be helpless or unable to escape if something goes wrong. which. well. you guys know what she's gone thru.

that combined with the general confusion and sensory overload of the human world.... i think luz would get Very Very Very Upset if she was forced to leave the house. and going anywhere without hunter especially is a non-starter. like one of u guys said a few days ago, the sheer LEVELS that her separation anxiety would ratchet up to.... she's basically following him to the bathroom whenever he gets up and sitting outside the door like a lonely cat. i don't even want to CONSIDER the kind of breakdown she'd have if she was made to go out with camila to, like, a completely normal therapy appointment.
