Please help me by filling up my empty classroom with supplies, books and games. After a decade of teaching I moved back to the Boston Area and in the move donated everything I had at the time to the schools and kids in the area. Now that I’m back in a classroom in this fun late-stage capitalist hellscape I am back into an empty classroom full of needs...and even after spending over $200 in the first week, the classroom is still largely empty. It’s summer WTH?: Yeah, it’s summer! But fun fact, most kids are 1-2 years behind academically after the pandemic (awesome) so therefore more and more programs are running summer school. My program is part of BPS (Boston Public Schools) and focuses on ESL and Math for 2 hrs a day, with art, STEM, and Nature programs coming in the rest of the time to expose them to more things. However we are just in random classrooms in random schools in Boston, and have very limited supplies... What’s your class like: Chaotic Fun. They are 12 kids aged 9-11, half of whom are ELL, a third on IEPS, and all living around or below the poverty line. They love art, hate math (except for 2), and are neutral on ELA (depends on what we’re doing). I have 2 who cannot read at all, and 1 who reads at a 7th grade level. Most of them would be quite happy if I just always let them play with supplies rather than actually use them in any academic sense. You know, typical kids. What supplies do you have?: Upon arrival I was given 1 pack of 25 pencils, 6 packs of 10 markers, 1 ream of colored paper, Popsicle sticks, graphing paper, measuring tape(?), tissues and lysol, and two board games...Basically, what was donated to the program. If it’s a summer program what will you do with the supplies after the summer?: Pencils, markers, crayons, notebooks...that stuff I’ll give to the kids at the end. Extra larger supplies I’ll give to the program if they want them (they run after school programs during the year) or keep for the work I do during the school year (intervention work and contracted tutoring) What if i just want to give you money? What if things are too expensive? For legal reasons, classroom aren’t allowed to ask for just money. That’s why we do supply lists instead, or raise funds for something specific (the TPT fundraiser). We are allowed to get gift cards though, so that is why they are on the amazon list. If there is is something else you’d want to donate, please ask! I have another question. Ask me!

WE'RE IN NEED OF HELP

We're bodily 19 and have been in need of a job. We have been actively pursuing jobs but have been unable to find work since September. Due to these circumstances, we've been struggling to support ourself financially and physically, and have had to rely on family for housing and food. We've been pretty much unable to make steps to get on my feet as a result of this. I have been staying with a supportive family member, but they can't support me past December 31st. If we fail to find another place to go, I will have no choice but to return to an abusive family situation that we narrowly escaped in March of 2023. We need to pay our phone bill for at least two months to be able to continue my job search, and to have enough money to be able to feed ourselves. Any help or word of mouth is greatly appreciated. Hey tumblr peoples! I figured i should make a post here as well but like, i really need help. If you dont follow me over on twt, basically I lost my job a little over 2 months ago now, due to being sick for 3 weeks and getting let go. sick with covid to the point i was barely conscious for a while, not like a cold or something lol. I’ve been trying every single day to find a job, applying to well over 1000 listings by now. IDK why i cant find something, but the Las Vegas job market has been a nightmare ever since the pandemic started. I’ve been doing everything i can to hold out and just keep my shit together while i try to make it through this, but i truly have no income at all right now. Theres been days where all i’ve eaten has been a single pack of ramen to make my rations last, if even that much sometimes. Thankfully i have a wonderful boyfriend who im lucky enough to have help me get groceries. But i seriously cannot be homeless right now, in this summer heat ill roast completely. ive been having severe stomach issues since having covid in 2022 that have gotten progressively worse to the point i cant eat anything without feeling sick. it gives me chronic fatigue, brain fog, has made me incredibly depressed, and is probably contributing to aches and pains in my hands and knees as well as a whole list of other health issues im having.

im pretty sure ive narrowed down what it is and my doctor wants me to get a gut health test done which costs $200. insurance does not cover this so i have to figure out a way to pay for it myself.

i couldnt even pay my utility bill this month and i dont know how im going to pay rent so im trying to raise the funds so i can get this testing done.

until i have the test done and can get answers there is no way for me to go forward with being treated for this, and it will only continue to get worse.

it has impacted my ability to do the things i love and to work and has ruined my mental health and my social life.

Hello, my name is Nero (yes, like the Roman emperor), and I'm fundraising to access gender-affirming surgery.

I've been attempting to access gender-affirming care for 6 years, and although I'm now seeing a gender clinic (which has allowed me to start HRT), I'm facing a big barrier to accessing surgery; my weight. The way I've dealt with my gender dysphoria and the distress it creates is to eat - it brings me comfort. Sadly this means that my current BMI is too high for UK surgeons to say yes to operating on me. Most surgeons here have a BMI limit of 30, and some limit to 40. My BMI is 47. I am being supported to lose weight (dieting, exercising daily, pills, etc) and I have already lost over a stone (yay!). However losing weight is going much slower than I thought it would, and that has only served to increase my dysphoria, taken away my comfort in food, and increased my suicidal ideation. My family fully believes that I will end up taking my own life if I can't access this much-needed, life-saving surgery within the next 2 years. I'm not sure I can wait another whole year but I'm fighting hard.

With this fundraiser, I'm hoping to travel abroad to where there are surgeons who have no BMI limit and who can and will give me what I so desperately need. My dysphoria is robbing me of a life I should be having at 24 years old. I should have a job. I should have friends. I should be out socialising and having fun. Instead, I sit at home and spend all my time trying my best not to let my dysphoria convince me that it's all hopeless.

Today I am actually so thankful for Tumblr's tip feature. I never thought I'd ever have to ask for donations for anything (except the time I was exercising for charity). We survive on one income (husband, me, Thomas), and I only get money sometimes from selling cross-stitch patterns with Subversive Cross stitch. (I also have a book, which has had veryvery minimal sales) Anyway, we've had to get a loan since we spent all our savings on getting three teeth removed, because we thought that's why he wasn't eating. Then they found the lump, and we had to go to so many vet visits for tests and ultrasounds before starting chemotherapy. In Aotearoa New Zealand right now (and I know it's the same around the world) there's a "cost of living crisis". Food, especially, is super expensive. Being a set of islands at the bottom of the world, we've always had to import a lot, so it's expensive to live here - and was always leveraged with higher salaries - but it's got quite bad after covid lockdowns, staff sickness through all industries, then floods and storms all over the place. Then there's energy price increases, rents, interest rates etc.etc. Suffice to say, it's tough right now. Anyway, thank you to anyone who tips or donates to our Give-A-Little - we don't have family or friends we see, our little family of three is it, really. Thomas means the world to us.
