Yet another post-canon Azula plot bunny

This time, with 100% more trans fem energy.

I've actually had this one for a while, and discussed it at length with @jusendork on discord. But due to an unfortunate run-in with malware, and discord support being useless as ever, my account and all the dm convos are lost forever now, so I figured I'd put it up on here so the idea itself does not fall down the memory hole.

So this came as a result of my unfortunate tendency to write right up to the line about trans adjacent characters, but never really go all the way despite being trans fem myself (see every Ranma 1/2 fanfic I have ever written). So this ones for all my sisters out there.

We begin the fic ten years after the ending of ATLA, and we're just going to sidestep the comics. The inciting incident is an attempt on the life of Fire Lord Zuko; the plot fails, but with as of yet no heir, the Fire Lord is in a politically difficult situation.

Wanting to settle this matter discretely, Zuko turns to his old friends to find the whereabouts of his sister, to determine whether she had any part in the plot, and if not, to return her safely to the capital so that there will be a line of succession. Unfortunately for him, he's a bit hard up for people able and willing to help. Ultimately, only Katara, ambassador from the Southern Water Tribe, and Mai are able and willing, no matter how reluctantly.

I've decided to borrow one note from the comics and have Zuko have split with Mai. Whether he is married to someone else for political reasons, I have not decided. The first leg will be told primarily from Katara's point of view as the outsider to the family dynamics. In the search, she's trying to peel back the layers of resentment and secrets. Mai knows more than she let's on.

Azula herself has been living under an assumed name in Ba Sing Se, disappearing into the anonymous mass with the help of a few of the former Dai Li who remained loyal. I've mulled various different trades she may have plied to survive, from organized crime to more reputable trades, but ultimately they are not important. The key is that she's basically been disassociating the past ten years, and the sudden arrival of people from her past dredges up everything she's been trying to forget.

The keystone of all this is that Azula is a trans girl, and it always was a sordid little secret of the royal family. Her father's (selective) affirmation of this was just another part of controlling her. From the moment his 'son' made 'his' first flames when 'his' mother humored 'his' protestations, Ozai saw an opportunity. 'Azulon' the Younger can play at being a girl, but only if she's the best. And she certainly can't go back on filial piety.

The main theme of it will be transmisogyny in all its forms. And I'd hope to do it in such a way that conserves the scenes in the original; events occur as they did in the show proper, but flashbacks are of course in full unreliable narrator. So the changes would be things that recontextualize events, not change them.

This is of course one of those ideas I may not actually get around to, so please don't stop if you're thinking along similar lines or if you got inspiration from this. But I really just had a good hard think about how Azula in fanon gets this sort of degendering; a character commonly perceived as a cis lesbian, and the commonalities lesbians have with trans women in how they're treated for existing outside the bounds of patriarchal norms, treated as violent, predatory, emotionally unstable, and masculinized. So i thought I'd just steer into this skid, and write her as a trans lesbian, because I can. There's few things as subversive as treating a character as having been trans and passing the entire time.

Adding onto the above hc, Kai and Nya's eyes are still pretty dull due to them being like, the last two to realize their powers, while Jay's are extremely bright and vibrant.

Jay- she/they (occasionally he) transfem + gender-fluid, bisexual

Hard of hearing, wears hearing aids. I think the hearing loss has always been there, but I think her elemental power just worsened it, bc you know. Thunder loud.

That being said, I think she was the first to get her elemental powers. I think they got them when she was like, a really really young kid.

Has heterochromia.

Came out as trans like, mid-prime empire.

Has psychosis and suffers from delusions.

Not rlly a Jay hc, but related. Their mom gave them up because she was desperately hoping they wouldn't have an elemental power, but if she did, they'd be near unfindable because she lived through hell and didn't want Jay to have to go through the same.

AuDHD

Nya- she/they transfem nonbinary, bisexual demiromantic

Has a tremor after un-merging with the ocean.

Her and Kai both have pretty bad anger issues.

For a long time after Hands Of Time she hates the way she looks because of how much she looks like her mom.

Still holds a heavy resentment against their parents, because even though it wasn't their choice to leave, them and Kai still had to grow up alone.

Fucking hates the taste of cinnamon.

Has time blindness, but only after un-merging with the ocean. She became disoriented and confused about the passage of time after being the ocean for so long.

Sometimes they still feel pulled back to the water.

Has insomnia, and a sleepwalking problem when he can get to sleep.

Looked fairly human when he was young, but as he got older, his Oni and Dragon features started showing more.

The feelings he felt for Harumi was mostly confusion because she was the first girl he got close to that didn't have what felt like an 'older sister' role in his life.

Really likes bugs.

Has auditory processing disorder.

Their body doesn't regulate temperature regularly.

Religiously watches iceberg videos.

Likes wearing more loose fitting, baggy clothing.

Chuck and Taylor are dating, they just don't remember when the hell they even started. The B in their Bromance faded out so subtly and they never brought it up to each other until after someone asked them when they started dating.

Hey First post from me other than the “I exist!” post! Decided to write down some trans/enby head canons for Undertale I have… You can probably tell which one is my favorite from how much I wrote… (While I’m trans, I’m not enby so plz tell me if I get anything wrong/insensitive about enby folks here?) Also, I may use these headcanons in fics I make so possible spoilers...

Frisk Dreemurr

-They/Them Enby. -Before the events of Undertale, Frisk identified as a trans-boy because they did not like being a girl, but then Frisk realized they don’t want to be a boy either, and they start to question if they are enby. -Monsters in the underground use gender neutral language to refer to Frisk because they don’t want to assume Frisk’s gender, but this unintentionally helps Frisk fully realize their enby. -Their still unsure if they want to start HRT or not, but thankfully they have time to think about that decision thanks to puberty blockers. (lol I'm also unsure if they'd want to medically transition or not aswfaweast)

Chara Dreemurr

-They/Them Enby. -Did not know they were enby until shortly after arriving in the Underground. -Chara made up their name just as they met Asriel because they did not like their old name, not realizing that was because of dysphoria. -Chara asks Asriel why all the monsters referred to them as “they”, and the conversation following that leads to Chara fully cracking and realizing their enby… -Asriel wants to never learn the gender Chara was assigned at birth because he only wants to Chara as they really are. Chara thinks that’s cute but kind of impossible/impractical… -Toriel and Asgore ordered the royal scientist to reverse-engineer human puberty blockers for Chara because magic ones dont work on humans… -Chara would have later started HRT if they had not died.

Noelle Holiday. (In Undertale)

-She/Her trans lesbian. -Noelle’s deadname is the same one that’s used in Tension Points and Changes. (Not putting it here but using it is going to be unavoidable if I’m writing a lot about Noelle pre-transition) -Only realizes she’s a girl in timelines where Flowey helps crack her egg. -Flowey finds it impossible to crack her egg after Rudy dies… -Because I want to write a “Noelle realizes she’s trans” subplot in my post-pacifist Undertale fic that I’ll hopefully make, the Alarm Clock/Xbox dialogue is in a timeline where Flowey cracked Noelle’s egg before Rudy dies. Meanwhile, in my fic that the alarm clock dialogue was in a past timeline that was true-reseted, and in this later timeline, Flowey only cracked her egg in past resets and not the final one where true pacifist occurs… -Flowey on the surface reveals to Frisk that Noelle is an egg. -Noelle’s mom (Clarice) is not “transphobic” per se but she definitely is not helping Noelle crack by putting large expectations on her about “growing up to be like her father” and stuff like that… (Which is mainly why she has such a hard time cracking after her dad's death...) -Noelle’s mom also sends Noelle to an all-boys school on the surface because it’s prestigious and she gets very good grades... (but because Noelle’s a trans egg she does not have a good time there…) -Noelle as an egg before the barrier is broken wants to grow her hair out until the barrier is gone, and then started moving the goalpost/making excuses to explain for why she has not cut it once she's on the surface... (Partly based on myself as an egg growing out my hair during Covid aflaksjfeafg...) -In the timelines where Noelle came out before Rudy’s death, her father loves and supports his daughter during the short time they have together… -When Noelle comes out to Dess, she right away accepts and loves her adorable little sister… -When Noelle comes out to Berdly he’s first words are “MY BEST FRIEND IS A GAMER GIRL!??!?!?!??!?!?!” and he’s instantly supportive… -Frisk and Noelle are close friends, and Frisk helps Noelle with resources/information relating to transition. -Noelle after coming out gets on magic puberty blockers as soon as possible as she’s terrified of going through masc-puberty…. -Noelle a few years later starts the monster equivalent of HRT/estrogen with no hesitation. -The Monster equivalent puberty blockers/hormones in Undertale work very similarly to real life hormones/puberty blockers, except their magic potions because MAGIC/Monsters are made out of magic... -Have no real thoughts for Trans Noelle HCs in deltarune as the fanfics I read mostly cover that already… -Writing any more would be spoilers for my fic, and you can probably already tell which headcanon is my favorite…

Bonus headcanon

In the PC/Playstation versions of Undertale, Mad Mew Mew possesses the Mew Mew animatronic after the events of true pacifist and later hunts down Frisk terminator style... (They later defeat her similarly to the pacifist switch version+they get some help from their friends...)

I had a giant conversation with my friend about my Obey Me headcannons and found a picture of Leviathan smiling in cosplay and it all just clicked so hear ya go! Warnings: All fluff, MTF Leviathan ASMODEUS: Levi told him first. He figured Asmo would understand more. "So what's up!" Asmo asked with a smile. "I think I'm um...a trans girl. No I know I am. I uhh..Sorry." She explained starting to tear up. Asmo was taken aback but smiled. "OH, HONEYY!" He yelled as he took Levi in for a hug. "That's amazing! Can I do your makeup? Lucifer came back from grocery shopping and set the bags down near the door when he noticed the lights were out. A sliver of light slithered from the dinning room door and he went to investigate. "Hello? Is- What is this?" He said to himself as he looked at the food on the table and the banner on the wall, reading "It's a..." He turned around to see Leviathan, wearing a dress, makeup and her hair in a high ponytail as she held onto an envelope. The rest of the brothers walked in and Leviathan handed Lucifer the envelope. Sirius entered his best friend's house with a smile. It was exactly like he'd remembered, the only difference being the loud rock music coming from upstairs.

"Hey, Moony. I didn't know you liked that kind of music." Sirius tells Remus, who sighs.

"That's my sister. She likes rock." The brown haired boy tells his friend.

"Hello, Daddy! Hello, Mom! I'm your Ch-Ch-Ch-Cherrybomb!" Is heard from upstair making the black-haired boy laugh at his friend's annoyed face.

"Hey! Keep it down up there!" Remus yells with a sigh.

Sirius holds in his laugh when the music becomes even louder, and the girl seems to sing as loud as she can to piss off her brother.

"Hello, world! I'm your wild girl! I'm your Ch-Ch-Ch-Cherrybomb!" She yells out, causing Sirius to chuckle.

"She's doing it again, isn't she?" His mother questions as the boy walks the kitchen, causing Remus to nod defeatedly.

"She's been doing that ever since you guys took her wand. She's protesting." Remus tells his mother as he grabs two glass and fills them with water.

"What are you making, Mrs. Lupin?" Sirius questions as he watches her knead some dough.

"Cookies, dear. Y/n has been... in a really bad mood. She hasn't been eating and I'm getting worried. I'm hoping the cookies will at least make her eat a little bit." Mrs. Lupin explains.

"Why isn't she eating?" Remus questions in concern as he gives Sirius his glass of water.

"Andrew cheated on her, and when she called him out on it..." Mrs. Lupin answers only to be cut off with an angry voice.

"That asshole had the nerve to tell me I was a fugly ass bitch and nobody in their right mind would touch me." Y/n snaps from the doorway.

"That wanker is obviously blind." Sirius blurts out his eyes widening.

"Padfoot!" Remus says, giving him a look of disaproval

"I said that out loud." Sirius states as he looks at the h/c-haired girl who chuckles and heads to grab a water bottle from the fridge.

"Yeah, you did. Don't worry tho. I'm flattered you think I'm hot, but sadly for you I don't date my brother's friends." She tells him teasingly patting his shoulder before heading back upstairs.

He stands there frozen in shock.

"I'm gonna go to the loo. You can head upstairs if you want." Remus tells him.

He nods and does as he's told and heads up the stairs when a tune comes on. He follows the music to the first door to the right and smiles in amusement at the sight in front of him.

Y/n is standing on her bed dancing and flipping her hair wildly as she sings into a hair brush. The red nightgown she's wearing leaves little for the imagination.

"I don't give a damn about my reputation! You're living in the past it's a new generation! A girl can do what she wants to do and that's what I'm gonna do. And I don't give a damn about my reputation! Oh no, not me. Oh no, not me. An' I don't give a damn 'bout my reputation! Never said I wanted to improve my station! An' I'm only doin' good when I'm havin' fun. An' I don't have to please no one. An' I don't give a damn 'bout my bad reputation!" She sings, jumping around like a maniac.

"Oh no, no, no, no, not me, oh no, no, no, no, not me. I don't give a damn 'bout my reputation! I've never been afraid of any deviation! An' I don't really care if you think I'm strange! I ain't gonna change!" Her singing comes to a halt when she jumps and spots Sirius watching her from the doorway with an amused look etched on his face.

She lets out a yelp as she loses her balance and falls off the bed and sharply to the floor.

"Are you ok?" Sirius questions as he rushes over causing her to blush.

"Peachy. How long have you been standing there?" She pries, causing him to grin.

"Enough to see those beautiful dance moves." He teases, causing Y/n to sigh.

"There goes my dignity." She states, smiling as he pulls her up.

"What are you guys doing?" Remus pipes up from the doorway, startling them.

"Rem! Get out!" She exclaims, yanking herself away from Sirius like she'd been burned. She blushes and looks at Remus.

"Y/n/n! no!" Her twin says causing her to huff in annoyance.

"What happened?" Remus repeats.

"She fell off the bed and hit her head. I saw her fall and helped her up." Sirius explains causing Remus to chuckle.

"You're such a klutz." He tells Y/n who rolls her eyes.

"Wow, thanks for the concern, you wanker." She says sarcastically.

"You are very welcome." He tells her mimicking her tone.

"Mutt." She insults, causing him to scoff in mock offence. He knew his sister was just messing with him.

"Dumbass." He states.

Sirius attempts not to laugh as he watches the two sibblings fight back and forth.

"Loser." She shot back as she looks at her twin.

"Takes one to know one." He smirks at her teasingly.

"Smartass." She snaps, crossing her arms in front of her chest.

"At least one of us is smart. The other one's braindead." He sasses causing her to let out an offended noise and chuck her pillow at him.

"Dickhead!" She yells at him before they both break out laughing.

"Now, that one hurt. Padfoot, pass her over." Remus tells his friend who looks at the girl who shakes her head.

"Sorry, love." He say as he goes to grab her only for her to push him back and run towards her brother, sliding between his legs and kicking him into Sirius.

"I'm gonna get you." Sirius yells running after her as she squeals and runs down the stairs.

Sirius slides down the railing and follows her to the kitchen. He manages to catch up with her and pin her against the counter.

"Got you, Y/n/n." He says with a smug look on his face.

"You sure?" She questions with a smirk reaching behind her.

He raises an inquisitive brow only to gasp in shock as she throws a handful of flour at his face.

He stares at her for a moment before smirking and doing the same to her.

Next thing you know they start throwing flour at eachother, accidentally hitting Remus who walks into the room and joins them.

"Oh my god! What happened to you guys?" Mrs. Lupin yells as she sees the horrifying mess in her kitchen.

They all freeze at look at eachother for a minute before bursting out in laughter.

Mrs. Lupin shakes her head and chuckles before ushering them out of the kitchen.

"You know, I never caught your name." Y/n questions as she looks at Sirius who smirks.

"It's Sirius." He introduces making her smile.

"Pleasure to meet you, Starshine." She tells him causing his nose to scrunch up.

"Starshine?" He questions in confusion.

"Yeah, you're named after a star after all. And you also have a shiny personality." She tells him, causing him to smile.

"I'm gonna take the first shower... you guys aren't listening so I'm just gonna go. Use protection!" Remus shouts, only the end of his rent catching their attention.

"Huh?" They both exclaim looking at the bathroom door then at eachother with a smile.

But be trans? Prepare to anyone respecting your new (and true) identity, nobody be capable to respect your pronouns and name because "I know you for too many years with other name to just change now", and don't forget the part that "don't even try to explain to some old parents, they old they don't understand!" Jobs? Oh yeah, we're gonna use your dead name, social name? Sorry... We actually don't care about this. Bathroom? Uh yeah use the birth gender bathroom okay? What? You got kicked out because you don't look like your birth gender? Well... But you can't use the other gender, it's your birth gender! Okay okay, you can use the other gender bathroom... Wait you got harassed? People touched you? Well what do you want us to do? And I could be here for more and more situations but let's talk better of all this

So I came out for my home family, in case my mom and my sister, and a cousin but I don't count her because I don't talk with her anymore. So besides that no one else knows, even if I already have 18 and stuff is kinda weird imagine coming out in others places so I didn't say nothing to anyone yet, besides my family and my therapist but I told my mom before my therapist

I don't have IRL friends so I can't say people treat me differently, on the internet all the people I know treat me okay and respect me, but I already suffer some transphobia for some people, but not really much

And for me being trans is double hard, because I live in Brazil, and we are the country that mostly kills trans people, and we have this number for some years already...

So yeah, if in other countries it is already dangerous, in Brazil sometimes it looks is even harder

My sister just ignores what I said, she thinks I'm not feminine girl and lesbian (even though I don't like girls), but my mom is trying her best

At first it was difficult and he had a lot of fights, but now we are working in communication so it's better. He is trying to be more comfortable using my right pronouns, and also using my second name that is Henrique (she refuses to use my first name because it is Cain and she is Christian lol), some days she says like "my son, man" and stuff so is cool

She is still not totally used to it but I think she is trying and that's good enough for me tbh

I'm planning to come out socially when I get a job, because I want to start with hormones and change my documents. Because it is really easier to be respected if you show your document and there's already your real name and not the dead one.

Probably when I get the job (if I get one) I will try to use my social name but I'm not totally sure because I don't have any patience so I would probably punch someone

But I think that, my life is definitely easier because I didn't came out to society, and I'm not sure what to expect when I do this, but yeah

I prefer suffering some risk either than dying pretend not to be someone that I'm

Dishonorable Mention

You Made A Fool of Death with your Beauty

I fucking hated this book. 2/5 on goodreads. Plot didn’t make sense and the main character pissed me off; never should’ve messed with that man’s daddy (who is also a weirdo). The use of grief was essentially a means to justify the weird plot and say everyone but the main character was wrong. I’m getting mad all over again

10) LilyReads (YouTuber) book club pick that I thought was a romance but I’m glad it wasn’t. In fact I was surprised at the direction it took, but the journey of self discovery was fun in its own messy way

9) I said I wasn’t going to read any white people romance but I’ve seen enough reviews to want to check some out. And I love a good friends to lovers despite what the “haters” say

8) The overall book is okay but the ending is what makes it great. It all started coming together so fast but it perfectly sets up the next book which I can’t wait to get.

Also quick honorable mention: Cinderella is Dead was also a fun read

7) Jake the boy that you are. Did I need that much insight into Sawyer’s mind-no could’ve gone without it. But I’m not mad at it and the contrast between the two of them really made the story what it is.

6) Massive trigger warning: Child Abuse

God this book had me on edge and if I think about the ending too much I start to shake. A book about how so many people can fail a little girl and the consequences of it all around how the only person who seems to care being said missing girl’s best friend. I could cry

5) Another LilyReads book club pick and the most fun I had out of them all. Very fun and enjoyable, I loved the narrative of the way it handled body autonomy

4) All children are charming as an adjective, but you’re charming as a verb if that isn’t an amazing quote. This book was a very fun book and surprisingly my very first male focus YA/romance. Henri was a fun character to see the world through and the narrative of him feeling like an outsider surrounding by those rich kids and trying to balance his own goals along with his parents plus dating. Oh Corinne was just the best here, I was practically shaking when the reveal of his betrayal came in. Also bonus points for not pulling a “we’re teens so in love, how can we separate for different colleges?” I wish them all the best

3) I only checked this out cause I saw it on Goodreads so I wasn’t expecting its content. This was an eye opener and a very emotional read that I gladly told my sisters about. Following an elderly immigrant women at sessions in an unemployment office as she tells her life story to you (the unknown presence of the social worker who is only revealed at the end). It makes me wish that community was reveal

2) Was so excited to get a chance at reading this and it definitely met my standards. F the noise (bad reviews), I got one think it makes perfect sense to fight fire with fire. Hell I think Wu Zetian could’ve been a bit more unhinged at some points. And everyone she killed deserved it, hell probably worse. Also answering a possible love triangle with polyamory *chefs kiss* thank you. Will be reading the sequel

Gaslight, Gatekeep, Girl Boss, Get away with Murder

1) Beautiful world building, diverse and interesting characters with great powers to match-when I get my shit together I will be making fanart. Between this and Cemetery Boys Aiden Thomas is definitely one of my favorite authors so the moment I can I will get physical copies of this book. If you love Percy Jackson I do recommend. My favorite book of the year.

This book was so much fun and a overall joy. I love the combination of fantasy and modern elements, the whole gods among us plus the power play/oppression build into the society. Trans representation that acknowledges said fantasy elements so it introduces different aspects of gender presentation. The slow burn of a rivals to friends (to maybe lovers). Each trial had me on edge as you saw the clear difference in Golds who were raised for this vs Teo and Xio, two Jades not on equal grounds. The betrayal that sets up the end and sequel book. I will be there consuming all of it

going with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe here because that was what first came up when i googled Mario Kart :)

Hero: Luigi. god bless this man he does not know anything about the Mario franchise outside of the first few Mario games. he chose Luigi over Mario because he likes green more than red. (plus he asked Spirit if that was a good choice and she said he was fine so)

Loft: Yoshi. he likes the look of him and he always felt really bad for dropping him into the abyss when playing Mario as a kid so this is a sort of apology

Minish: Toad. they can do a perfect impression of Toad and is not afraid to use it to terrify people.

Prism: either Dry Bowser or Princess Daisy. listen okay this guy is an elite gamer and also a huge fucking nerd, so obviously he’s crunched the numbers; he also really likes Game Theory and watched that one video where MatPat claimed that Dry Bowser (and a specific kart build that i don’t remember) was the fastest. bUt he’s also kind and hates absolutely obliterating his friends every single time, so he tones it down and chooses Princess Daisy (her specifically because his fiancée, Zelda, loves Daisy. if it weren’t for her he’d be Villager Male.)

Mask: Shy Guy. little guy with mask 🤝 little guy with mask.

Oracle: Bowser. this bitch is here to win, but, unlike Prism, he doesn’t have the time to crunch the numbers. so he just.. googled what the best build is and goes with that

Lorule: Birdo. trans rep.

Traveler: Waluigi. he’s obnoxious as hell what else do you expect of it.

Wolf: it’s between Cat Peach and Donkey Kong. HE’S A FURRY he loves both cats and monkeys, but he chooses Cat Peach a little bit more often because he’s also a #feminist

Red: Isabelle. Red is an Animal Crossing player at his core. plus he also loves dogs very much

Green: Dry Bowser. this man is a strategist at heart, he’s gonna do his research and perform as best as he can. though he’s a little embarrassed about how much effort he’s put in to Mario Kart

Blue: Bowser. it’s the exact same story as Oracle: she’s here to fucking win. bUt she isn’t an absolute loser and so just quickly googles who the best is and goes with it. tragically, she’s horrible at video games and loses almost every single time.

Vio: King Boo. she is a huge fuckin nerd, but just not in the video game way. she has no damn clue who to choose, and ends up picking King Boo because ghosts are fun, and definitely not because Shadow mained King Boo. definitely not that at all—

Wind: Inkling Girl. this guy is pretty good at all games, with the single exception of racing games. so, when it comes to Mario Kart, he relies on the wisdom of his little sister, Aryll, who consistently mops the floor with him whenever they play. she mains Inkling Girl, and he hopes and prays that that’ll let him at least not come in at dead last.

Spirit: Dry Bowser and Princess Peach. yet another person who’s a complete and utter nerd. i’ve mentioned this before, but Spirit loves optimization. she’s an engineer, she’s gonna figure out the best combinations and she’s gonna figure them out fast. but, just like Prism, she’s actually nice and doesn’t want to straight up obliterate everyone she plays with, so Princess Peach. (ngl i was tempted to say Birdo again because trans rep but Spirit is such a Princess Peach girlie.)

Ages: Mario. while Ages is also a huge strategy guy, he’s not really a fan of competitive games. give him a pokémon game and he’ll do fantastic, but a racing game?? ehh…. truth be told, he mostly plays story driven games, so he’s very lost in a competitive setting. same story as Hero, really, lmao. they both go for the ole reliables.

Wild: Toad. she saw a little dude with a fat ass mushroom hat and immediately decided to main him. oh and he can also do a perfect impression of Toad. do not leave them and Minish in the same room together or else they will both lose their voices from talking like Toad for hours.

Champion: Wendy O. Koopa. this man(?) is an enigma, no one knows why. he probably doesn’t either.

being queer in a rural area / area where theres not a lot out other gay people is really weird and really isolating.

yeah its the homophobes and terfs and people telling me about *how the gays are going to hell* and talking about us like we're subhuman without realizing im gay.

but its also the other gay people i've met.

theres this guy that ive been friends with for going on 11 years now (on and off) and he came out to me a year ago just by going "hey did you ever think that i might be gay" and i answered and that was that

months later i came out to him by telling him nonchalantly about my first girlfriend when i was like 13. he tells me about this girlfriend he had a few years prior. he then proceeds to go on this rant about how he's still "completely gay" thought since "she wasn't a real girl". and he goes on about how he thinks that if you date a trans person it automatically makes you pansexual since they "have the parts of a boy/girl even if they aren't one" (talking about how straight men cant date trans girls and still be straight and vise versa and how lesbians "cant" date trans girls and still call them lesbians)

last time i talked to him he was going on about "how women are nowadays" and calling them sluts and being really degrading.

There was a gay bi gender kid who rode my bus who constantly talked about the same stuff.

The first person I've ever came out to irl is one of my best friends recently told me she just "doesnt understand aromanticism" and doesnt think it's a real thing.

I came out to her as asexual about two years ago now and explained to her that i find a lot of aspects of my sexuality confusing but i still really wanted a label and she's the one who suggested i use the label 'queer'

but when i messaged her and told her that i also think im on the aromantic spectrum a few days ago she asked me to explain why and i sent her a whole essay explaining my experiences with romantic attraction for her to tell me she doesnt understand it and doesnt think that that makes me gay.

I also have this cousin whose a lesbian and only shows up like once every five years because of our family. but when she was home for christmas she and her sister went on a tirade about how being gay is fine but trans people are 'imposing on the community'.

i wasnt planning on coming out to her (i dont think ill ever come out to anyone in my family) but i was still sort of excited to see her because i havent talked to her since i came to terms with my sexuality and it just felt nice not being the only gay person in my family (even if i am closeted)

and its really isolating because this is my community. these are the people i have access to that have the most simular experiences and not one is fully accepting of other peoples identities.

every single gay friend i have that isnt aropohobic or transphobic or a misogynist (how tf are you going to be gay and sexist??? make it make sense) is online and my actual community is completely parasocial. i dont think thats healthy.

I have a lot of thoughts…

These idiots have consumed my every waking thought for the last 7ish years and I will never be free. Please enjoy this masterpiece, a true work of art if I may be so bold. These particular couples are the ones in my massive Ben x Perry fic that I never shut up about, but the characters’ sexualities and preferences would be pretty much the same regardless of who they’re with.

Ben: Knew he didn’t just like girls in late middle school/early high school. Luckily, had a supportive family and a terrifying and fiercely protective sister. Had just as many boyfriends as he did girlfriends and don’t even get me started on the France trip the summer after his senior year.

Perry: Realized in high school that he didn’t really factor in gender when it came to who he was attracted to. Was closeted until he moved away from home as his father was verbally and physically abusive. Doesn’t use labels.

JD: Knew he was bi before he figured out he was trans, so probably similar to Ben in that it would have been late middle school or early high school. Came out as trans when he was 16 and went on T in his senior year. Didn’t tell Turk until Turk accidentally walked in on JD giving himself an injection and then it all just sort of came out.

Turk: Bestie. Please. So much internalized homophobia to work through here. JD helps a lot in that regard and they start dating in med school after meeting and becoming best friends in their first year of college. It’s something he struggles with for a while and often overcompensates with ridiculous displays of masculinity. Still doesn’t really refer to himself as gay to others, even though it’s what feels best for him. What really matters is that he’s with JD.

Carla: Doesn’t know or come out until after she starts at Sacred Heart. When Jordan goes through postpartum depression after being Ben and Perry’s surrogate, Carla is the first one to notice something is wrong. Carla has become close with Perry and Ben by that point and Jordan is at the hospital fairly frequently between board meetings and terrorizing her brother-in-law. Jordan ends up leaning on Carla pretty hard during postpartum and Carla sees that softer side of Jordan that she tries so hard to hide. Carla panics because she’s never felt this way about another woman before (*cough* comp het *cough*), and she goes to Perry for help to decipher all of what she’s feeling. Looking back, it’s pretty easy to realize that she did have big gay feelings before, but she’d never realized what they were, let alone acted on them.

Jordan: Does not give one singular shit. She likes hot people. She sleeps with hot people. She tops and she doms. Queen shit.

Elliot: Similar to Carla re: comp het and also just a massive amount of repression growing up in Connecticut. Is anyone surprised? Absolutely not. Has a lot of unlearning to do when it comes to preconceived notions about gender and sexuality and also sex in general. Absolute pillow princess. Queen of opening mouth, inserting foot.

Molly: TRANS LESBIAN who, despite her best efforts, falls for the repressed girl from New England. What can she say, the emotional issues always draw her in.

They're all from different campaigns I've played. I'll give you quick info and thoughts about them in chronological order (aka, which one did i create first)

Michi Haasi

- fun fact his name is literally an endearment term for a cat in spanish (something like "little critter")

- which makes sense since he's half tabaxi, aka literally a cat boy. Full anime cat boy! He's a rogue that was trained as a spy assassin from a tender age because his parents got murdered in an unjust massacre carried out by a random noble lord. Now left to care for his little sister and brother, he took on a life of crime with high risk but high reward.

- since he specialized in being part of political conflicts from the shadows, he knew it would make him enemies that would put his siblings in danger. So he left them in an orphanage and cut all possible ties with them. He cares for them deeply though and sends all the money he can to the orphanage so that his siblings may be cared for properly.

- it feels weird not to mention it even though it has never come up in the story and i doubt it ever will, but Michi is a trans boy :3

- outside of the role, there was another player in my table that kept pushing for his character (a hobbit druid girl) to have a hardcore crush on Michi and i didn't feel comfortable with that so uh now my experience rping Michi has been soured a bit. Like yes i do love him as one of my creations but if i never play as him again i will not feel too bad about it (which is good bcus the DM got too busy with his own life so uhhh i guess we'll never play again!)

Ishana Aavrih

- My sweet tiefling paladin girl ♡ the joke i had is that she's literally just a nun with a sword. She's a tall and strong looking blue tiefling woman with fiery red hair. A devout follower of Fantasy Jesus (Ilmater) and her core beliefs were that anyone can be redeemed, anyone deserves a second chance, and that her duty was to protect other's from harm.

- i wanted her to be a pacifist but uhm since that campaign was heavy on the combat she did indeed kill many people. IN HER DEFENSE i did make her ask before the killing blows if they were willing to give up their life of Evil Deeds. No one ever did lmao

- her backstory never came up but: in this setting tieflings are loathed as an "inherently evil" race so Ishana grew up in a convent of a group of tieflings which main ideology was to "repent for the sins of their race". She was an orphan there so she was raised on these beliefs which marked her ideology forever. We love catholic guilt.

And to make it more tragic, she had a best friend growing up with her too in that convent and she loved her a lot, but her friend was more rebellious and mischievous (not bcus she was evil but bcus teens are just like that!). Anyway her friend gets killed to make an example out of her after a Nebulous Incident (aka i never worked out the details here ahdjjdjd) and Ishana is left heartbroken. It does lead her to escape and later on find comfort in the teachings of Ilmater because of the ideology of "everyone deserves a second chance" (since her friend deserved a second chance!)

- anyway in the campaign we had to stop cultists from bringing the apocalypse and one of the head Priestesses named Vannifer wanted help in stopping the apocalypse (because she was basically a slave to the Evil God trying to bring the apocalypse and she wanted to be free).

Vannifer was also a tiefling with a tragic backstory so when Ishana heard her tale and plea she immediately decided she wanted to help her no matter what! It became her life duty to try and free Vannifer from her chains so that she may be happy.

The rest of my party was pretty murder happy so even they wanted to kill Vannifer on several occasions so it became a running joke that only Ishana saw Vannifer as an ally (and she was!!! Like literally she's a NPC meant to help u!!! Why would u kill her!!!!)

Alongside this, in one of the cursed temples my party freed a group of Kenkus (bird people) and one of them was a small orphan crow boy and he immediately got attached to Ishana (and i became attached as well!!!!!!!!!!!) So Ishana adopted him as her son. His name was Purulento (pretty sad name in spanish bcus it's something akin to "infected wound"). Anyway i love him so much and he's my little son boy. My little baby. My sweet little boy. He became a cleric mostly so we could deploy him if any of our players missed a session so Purulento could fill that space in combat.

At the end of the campaign, Ishana realized she wanted to give up the sword and go live with her son and Vannifer in a cabin in the woods. So yeah she basically got her happy lesbian ending and sobs im so happy. BCUS PURULENTO HAS 2 MOMS AND GETS TO GROW UP IN THE HAPPY HOME HIS 2 MOMS DIDN'T GET TO HAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SOBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love her so goddamn much.

- Also her name is a valid homestuck troll name fun fact.

Eshuu Teevan

Ohhhh boy oh boy oh sweet jelly goddamn crackers HOW TO START WITH ESHUU MY DEEPLY BELOVED!!!!!! He lives rent free in my head even if i have played with him like maximum 7 sessions. Gonna try to TL;DR him bcus if not we will be here all DAY and maybe it's better if i show u the 40 powerpoint presentation i have on him later

- he's a satyr warlock! His patron is Caiphon, an old god and distant star. Akin to a lovecraft horror. Eshuu has a HORRIBLY debilitating Ego so when this elder god came to him in a dream and promised him the secrets of godhood it was all over.

- he's a scholar that loves nature, but most of all fungi! He's fascinated by the idea of Rot As An Extension of Life. In a better timeline he's some sort of druid ♡ we're not in that timeline ♡

- to understand what's wrong with him u gotta know that he lives in a world where Gods walk among them and each year the world celebrates "A Harvest" which is kinda like uhhh the hunger games but the prize is that the winners get to Ascend To The Heavens.

Eshuu being part of the Fey knows that the gods are capricious and not to be venerated. But his best friend Jakobi (an elf) is a devout believer who's purpose in life is to win the Harvest and ascend (as his people have trained him for). Knowing that his most likely fate is death, Eshuu tries to discourage Jakobi from making this his Life Goal but they fight and break up their friendship and something inside Eshuu snaps that makes him want to take over the gods and destroy them ♡ because he could do so much better ♡

- anyway Eshuu is my babygirl and i love him so goddamn much. His favorite spell is acid splash. He thinks he's owed everything. He's obsessed with one (1) guy that didn't let him have the last word. I could fix him but whatever is wrong with him is funnier ♡ He's doomed to go mad with eldritch knowledge and I'm crossing my fingers Jakobi is the one to kill him ♡

Cyril Nightclaw

- my most recent character! I love him lots! He's inside a horror campaign with vampires!!! Aaah!!!

- he's a dark elf (i forgot the term but they're the ones with Advanced Darkness) and he's sensitive to sunlight. He's a cleric of the grave! He dresses like a plague doctor!! He's a devout follower of Anubis!!! He's literally part of a pyramid scheme!!! This adventure is one of the first times he's been allowed outside of the temples!!!!! He's a hoot i love him.

- i say he's a hoot but mostly because i think he's incredibly endearing. He's stoic, genuine, and blunt. Party says he has autistic swag and i am inclined to agree. Perhaps even make canon.

- his one goal is to Maintain the Balance between life and death, which means that any time he sees an Undead Creature he wants and needs to destroy them on sight. This is made much more difficult because we have a sorcerer in our party that likes necromancy and he likes to bring walking cadavers around a lot. Such is life.

- in the campaign we are tasked with protecting this one lady named Irina bcus the Dracula controlling the region has targeted her as his Bride To Be. Cyril, being so new to the outside world, fell in love with Irina because she's the first pretty lady he's ever seen in his life. So you can see how this further motivates him to destroy The Goddamn Dracula Final Boss That Keeps Showing Up And Trying To Kill Us.

- he has a prosthetic leg because his parents tried to use him as a human sacrifice as a baby but the ritual failed (it did take his leg though). He was left abandoned in the steps of a temple of Anubis during a storm and he drowned. But Anubis revived him so that he may serve him. We love a guy that died once but got better ♡

Trans Awareness Week

So, as I'm sure you are already probably aware, it's Trans Awareness Week. I always know because it ends on my birthday, so it's an active time for me. I've been debating how exactly to acknowledge it. Do I do a Celeste stream? Do I talk about my history as a transperson? A trans-artist? Combined with my approaching birthday stream, it's something I've been struggling to make time for.

Ultimately, I thought it would be best to share my history as this week is about celebrating the trans experience. (I'll probably stream Celeste if I have time too.) I don't acknowledge it very often, but I am 29, turning 30 this week. For over a decade, I have been out as a transwoman and for almost just as long, I've maintained a consistent presence on the internet. I've witnessed a lot of this community's recent history firsthand.

In 2011 when I first came out, transgender issues were very much still under the radar. There was very little information available, and I didn't really know how to approach it. After years and years of feeling this nagging problem in my head, I discovered a pamphlet at my college's Gay-Straight Alliance about transgenderism and I finally found an answer to why I labeled my Neopets profile female, always chose female protagonists in Pokemon, why cross-dressing gave me comfort and made me upset when people treated it like a joke.

Being an overenthusiastic person living in liberal northwest Washington state, I kind of just excitedly told everyone I was a girl at that point. It didn't exactly go well though. My friends at the time were divided. Some loved me unconditionally, while others were confused at this shift from the class clown they knew. My mother was the strangest case. Not a transphobic response at all, but she refused to acknowledge I fit the bill as being trans despite it being really obvious in most people's eyes. (I recall my best friend at the time's response being "FINALLY you realize it.") Besides that, she was concerned how this discovery would impact my studies.

I mention this whole opening because it set a context for how I would behave online as a transwoman. Fear of rejection, of judgment, and even just the desire to be seen as a 'true' woman meant that I didn't tell people I was trans. I had an alarm on my phone to tell me when I should start acting like I was on my period each month. I would alter stories about my past to make it seem like I'd always been a girl.

A quick side note, my mom did eventually come around to acknowledging my transness, and expressed a lot of it just came out of concern for my safety. Reasonable, given several transpeople were killed that year. She wound up becoming an advocate for LGBT rights after my sister came out as a lesbian and we're very close these days.

Continuing, in my desire to hide what I saw as an issue that would ostracize me, I worked desperately to be seen as a ciswoman. I trained my voice very early on, got into fashion, learned makeup, learned how to shape my body so I could take selfies and join voice calls with people under the impression I wasn't trans. I think many of them knew I was ultimately, especially early on, but they didn't reject me and so the important part was accomplished.

Over time, I eventually got onto HRT in about 2015 or so and that helped a lot. I also met fellow transwoman and one of my closest friends DearSixlet a couple years beforehand who I confessed my transness to and helped her on her journey to finding that herself. From that point on, I'd meet the good, the bad, and the ugly of this community between some of my best friends, my partners, those who'd come to hurt me, and even one whose only intention ever was to hurt me.

That one would be the constant reminder that simply because one is transgender doesn't mean they're kind or good. She would end up pushing me to the brink, the only time I ever came within a razor's edge to losing my life to depression. And it always astounds me it was someone from the very same community who did that, not an opponent or a bigot. The deepest scars come from within as they say.

I survived though, and I moved on. I drifted for awhile after that. Passing from home to home, never staying in one place longer than a year. I didn't really know what to do with myself. I got into a long term relationship I had very little investment in, fell off HRT for awhile, accrued an uncomfortable amount of debt.

Strangely enough, while everyone was suffering tremendously with the outbreak of Covid, I finally found my path. I'd been drawing since I was in middle school and finally got up the courage to put my artwork online. I saw my growth as an artist explode and eventually a little thing called VTubing came along and I wound up being a really early adopter.

Streaming and art gave me motivation again, along with the entrance of my current partner Hawken into my life who did a lot to shake me from the apathetic stupor I'd been in. And, the conclusion of this whole thing, is ultimately, I finally came to terms with accepting being transgender as something to be proud of. The flag is in my Vtuber design now, and it's on my bio. I don't hide that anymore or even act subtle about it. Weirdly enough, have never got hate mail over it.

But that's my experience. It's long, windy, and well, not exactly the traditional path, but it's mine, and that's what's important. I have deep hopes for the future of this community and I think despite recent events, even more recent events are a sign that this community will not balk in the face of opposition and will fight to the bitter end for it's right to exist.
