"Need Satisfactory Conditions to Grow," Kingston Whig-Standard. May 15, 1933. Page 9. ---- Mental Disorders Constitute One of the Great Social Problems ---- MONTREAL - Prevention of mental disorder and. delinquent and criminal behavior lies not in finding a new drug or growth but in providing satisfactory conditions for healthy mental growth and development -in recognizing and dealing with significant behavior deviations as they occur in the development period, and in the recognition and correct approach to adult individuals who are showing slight or serious personality or mental disturbances That this is a fundamental society problem was emphasized by Dr. W. T. B. Mitchell, director of the Mental Hygiene Institute, Inc., at the annual meeting here.
"Probably there is today no social problem which rivals it for seriousness and importance. Any organized medical or social work effort which is failing to provide satisfactory leadership or guidance in the sphere of mental health is seriously inadequate" Dr. Mitchell said. "Some degree of mental health is one of the most frequent causes of individual social failure. "Attempts to rehabilitate such individual social failures, except through an intelligent plan for treating the underlying conditions, are bound to be costly. wasteful and disappointing" he said. Nearly 900 cases were treated at the Montreal Mental Hygiene. Institute during past year. These included a wide scope of various new types such as suspected mental disease, mental depression, attempted, suicide. nervousness and fears, seclusiveness, sensitiveness. peculiar behavior, epilepsy and fainting spells, physical complaints enuresia, speech defect. suspected mental defect, school failure. unmarried mothers, social failure and martial maladjustment; stealing, temper tantrums, sex problems, truancy. disobedient, uncontrollable. mental health study, vocational guidance, and psychotic parents.

yknow, my life is objectively better and i can confidently say that im thriving and more happy more than im not, but that feeling that im going to die young or that im not really human never really goes away. and i cant really stop it because the dying young thing wasnt just a trauma response, its me acknowledging that my hometown is ever slowly drowning or that a particularly hot day could simply burn everything and that the chance of getting killed from reactionary backlash from the government is never zero. and the not human thing is just something you get when youre trans and neurodivergent in this society. so like, i can go to therapy, i can improve myself, but im never going to stop being all combative and suspicious because that is necessary for me to stay alive. ngl its pretty depressing that im cursed to be a bitch.

hey do you have an antipsych reading list or anything like that? i’m trying to learn more about the topic. thank you!
yes!! This is more a list of mad studies books than like, sociological theory from the 60s because disability justice + mad pride is more what I vibe with, but if you want some more in-depth theory recommendations I can do that as well. blanket trigger warning that all of these books discuss psychiatric abuse, institutionalization, and many of them candidly address topics of suicide, mental distress, and sexual assault. If anyone wants more specific trigger warnings please feel free to ask!
Books:
The Collected Schizophrenias by Esmé Weijun Wang: This book is a fabulous collection of essays based on the author's own experience of schizophrenia, and explores the complexities of diagnosis and institutionalization.
Brilliant Imperfection by Eli Clare: This book is incredibly important to me and explores the concept of cure, what it means to have anti-cure politics, and all the nuances of cure. Truly a beautifully written book and I really recommend it.
Disability Incarcerated: Imprisonment and Disability in the United States and Canada edited by Liat Ben Moshe: This book is an amazing exploration of institutionalization and incarceration from so many different perspectives, including the special ed to prison pipeline, segregation, psychiatric medicine within prisons, and how institutionalization functions as incarceration. This book can be challenging to read as a psych survivor, but I highly recommend it.
How to Go Mad without Losing Your Mind: Madness and Black Radical Creativity by La Marr Jurelle Bruce: I highly recommend this book. It really delves into complex meanings of madness, how that's tied to radical tradition, aesthetics, art, liberation, so much more, and also really engages mad studies and Black cultural studies.
Mad in America: Bad Science, Bad Medicine, and the Enduring Mistreatment of the Mentally Ill by Robert Whitaker: I think this book can be a good foundation for learning the history of psychiatry in America in particular, and although I don't necessarily vibe with everything in this book, I think it is still absolutely worth reading and engaging with critically!
The Protest Psychosis: How Schizophrenia Became a Black Disease by Johnathan Metzl This book does a really good job looking at the history of psychosis in the context of the United States, the civil rights movement, and how pyschosis diagnoses connects to eugenics and slavery.
Asylums: Essays on the Social Situation of Mental Patients and Other Inmates by Erving Goffman I have not actually read this yet, but it is a classic and it's been on my reading list since @bioethicists recommended it to me!
Open in Emergency: DSM II: Asian American Edition edited by Mimi Khúc This collection of essays has so many different fabulous perspectives on mental health, disability justice, community, and resistance.
Miscellaneous:
Girls do what they have to do to Survive: Illuminating Methods used by Girls in the Sex Trade and Street Economy to Fight back and Heal by the Young Women's Empowerment Project I'm including this on the list even though it might not connect as clearly to antipsychiatry as some of the other titles, because reading this was transformative to me for understanding my own experiences and the ways in which social services like the medical system are not our friends. I also view liberatory harm reduction as essential to building alternatives to psychiatry and YWEP is so completely foundational and groundbreaking in many ways.
Harm Reduction Guide to Coming off Psychiatric Drugs
Cutting the Risk: Harm Reduction and Self Harm I want to add an extra trigger warning for in-depth discussion of self harm and anatomy, including anatomy diagrams.
Asylum Magazine
Mad In America Website--this can be a good place to keep up with psychiatric news in America.
This is very much not a complete list, so followers PLEASE add on!

Let me tell you about John “Foul-Weather Jack” Byron, Captain James Cook, a doctor named James Lind, and also a different doctor named James Lind, and how they all knew each other, helped to cure scurvy, and inadvertently helped to inspire Mary Shelley's novel Frankenstein (1818) and Bram Stoker's Dracula (1897) -- a long-winded history ramble
Tumblr media Tumblr media
John Byron next to a first edition copy of Frankenstein.
John joined the Royal Navy at 14 and by the ripe old age of 17 had proved himself by surviving a deadly shipwreck off the coast of Chile. The voyage was part of George Anson's famous circumnavigation of the globe done to seize Spanish ships. Only 188 men of the original 1,854 crew members survived; several, including Byron, were taken as prisoners by the Spanish. Recollections of the voyage were sensationalized and it was depicted in stories like William Cowper’s poem The Castaway. John Byron published his own successful memoir, The Narrative of the Honourable John Byron (1768).
The novel's full title deserves attention for it's 18th century pre-Byronic melodrama: "The Narrative of the Honourable John Byron (Commodore in a Late Expedition Around the World) Containing an Account of the Great Distresses suffered by Himself and his Companions on the Coast of Patagonia from the Year 1740, till their Arrival in England, 1746. With a Description of St. Jago de Chili, and the Manners and Customs of the Inhabitants. Also a Relation of the Loss of the Wager Man of War, one of Admiral Anson's Squadron." I can only imagine that had his grandson Lord Byron's memoirs been published instead of burned, their title would have borrowed from his grandfather's by including something similar to "Containing an Account of the Great Distresses suffered by Himself . . ." but I digress.
I do not digress. The beginning of his preface opens with this gem (I've swapped the 18th-century "long s" for a regular one):
"But here I must say, I have been dubious of the partiality of my friends; and, as I think, justly fearful lest the world in general, who may perhaps find compassion and indulgence for a protracted tale of distress, may not give the same allowance to a luxurious imagination triumphing in a change of fortune, and sudden transition from the most dismal to the gayest scenes in the universe, and thereby indulging an egotism equally offensive to the envious and censorious."
Which brings to mind Francis Cohen's criticism of Lord Byron's Don Juan: “Lord B. should have been grave & gay by turns; grave in one page & gay in the next; grave in one line, & gay in the next. And not grave & gay in the same page, or in the same stanza, or in the same line… we are never drenched & scorched at the same instant whilst standing in one spot" (letter to John Murray, 16 July, 1819). And (not the most entertaining part, but to keep things brief) part of Byron's retort: "I will answer [Cohen] who objects to the quick succession of fun and gravity — as if in that case the gravity did not (in intention at least) heighten the fun. His metaphor is that ‘we are never scorched and drenched at the same time!' Blessings on his experience!" (letter to John Murray, 12 August, 1819).
John went on to be considered one of the greatest naval commanders of his era, commanding several ships as captain during the Seven Years’ War and beating the French as leader in the Battle of Restigouche. He later set the record for fastest global circumnavigation at the time while commodore, became a notable explorer, became a commander at multiple Royal Navy stations, and was appointed Governor of Newfoundland in Canada for three years. According to Wikipedia, “his actions nearly caused a war between Great Britain and Spain.”
It seems like he basically just did whatever the hell he wanted. We can see that the apple really doesn't fall too far from the tree. Everyone in the Byron family was kind of crazy. See: psychologist Kay Jamison's Touched By Fire, a novel on the mental illness of famous writers, half of which is focused on Lord Byron (as it should be) and includes an extensive psychological analysis of his whole family tree, which in a short summary brings me back to my previous point: everyone in the Byron family was kind of crazy.
John's health declined after sustaining storm-induced injuries and an unsuccessful attack against the French at the Battle of Grenada. He died at 62 with six living children. His grandson, the poet Lord Byron, borrowed inspiration from John's life and the shipwreck descriptions in his memoir while he was writing the shipwreck sequence in his magnum opus Don Juan.
In an epistle to his half-sister (Epistle to Augusta) Byron mentions their grandfather thus:
"A strange doom is thy father's son's, and past / Recalling, as it lies beyond redress; / Revers'd for him our grandsire's fate of yore— / He had no rest at sea, nor I on shore. / If my inheritance of storms hath been / In other elements, and on the rocks / Of perils, overlook'd or unforeseen, / I have sustain'd my share of worldly shocks, / The fault was mine; nor do I seek to screen / My errors with defensive paradox; / I have been cunning in mine overthrow, / The careful pilot of my proper woe."
On to the Scottish doctor James Lind! He's important because he developed the theory that citrus fruits treated scurvy, and in attempting to prove so he conducted the world's first ever official clinical trial. In his tests, he used the survivors from this famous shipwreck. This likely included Byron himself, being one of the few survivors and having reported the healing effects of citrus in restoring men who were on the verge of death. Needless to say, the discoveries and implications of Lind's clinical trial had an unprecedented impact on the fields of nutrition and medicine, and all of history, particularly in the Caribbean. In 1753 he published his Treatise on Scurvy.
Lind's theories on scurvy influenced the famous Captain James Cook, who implemented these ideas and proved their efficiency by how few men he lost to scurvy compared with every other Captain at the time. When Cook circumnavigated the world on his first voyage, no one died of scurvy. This didn't help with malaria and dysentery, which nearly wiped out his whole crew at one point on a journey to Indonesia. Aside from Anson's shipwreck, Cook's voyages were the other major instance of what I would call "social experiments at sea, or, fuck around and find out: scurvy edition" which led to the development of scurvy research.
As an aside, there is a famous town in Australia named Byron Bay. That town was named by Captain Cook in 1770 as a tribute to John Byron. Cook was sailing around on the HMS Endeavour doing even crazier colonial shit, and he likewise died as the result of his sea travels. He was killed in a scuffle on Hawaiʻi Island which transpired after he had casually tried to kidnap King Kalaniʻōpuʻu-a-Kaiamamao in broad daylight, planning to ransom him out of revenge for the theft of one of his boats, although Cook himself had stolen their sacred wood first after they had been so nice to him. This is what I've gathered from reading a bit about the confusing affair, but the main point is that Cook got what was coming to him. The Journals of Captain Cook were published to major success, contributing to the history of English travel narratives. But Cook is a pretty well-known historical figure so I can't go into his chaotic life any more than this, lest I be writing forever.

Lord Byron in an Albanian oufit he bought while traveling for 2 years, & Captain Cook thinking about navigation. The backgrounds make them look part of the same painting, no?
Back to the Linds: interestingly enough, the scurvy-studying physician James Lind had a younger cousin who was also a physician named James Lind, as well as a scientist/philosopher/teacher. While teaching at Eton, this Lind became a tutor and mentor of a young Percy Bysshe Shelley, and had such an impact on him that Shelley refers to Lind in several of his works. Shelley especially enjoyed Lind’s experiments regarding galvanism - the study of bringing things to life with electricity. It is widely believed by scholars that Shelley’s conversations and rememberances about Lind at Lord Byron's Villa Diodati were some of the primary inspiration for Mary Shelley’s novel Frankenstein (1818).
For further reading on Shelley's Lind: The real Doctor Frankenstein? by Christopher Goulding via Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine. Lind's Wikipedia page has a section devoted to Frankenstein.
Percy Shelley described his Lind:
". . . exactly what an old man ought to be. Free, calm-spirited, full of benevolence, and even of youthful ardor: his eye seemed to burn with supernatural spirit beneath his brow, shaded by his venerable white locks, he was tall, vigorous, and healthy in his body; tempered, as it had ever been, by his amiable mind. I owe to that man far, ah! far more than I owe to my father: he loved me, and I shall never forget our long talks, where he breathed the spirit of the kindest tolerance and the purest wisdom . . ."
A tie-in to vampire literature: Lind is also thought to be an influence on Bram Stoker’s Dracula (1897), which was influenced by (Lord Byron’s doctor) John Polidori’s novel The Vampyre, the first ever vampire novel, which was inspired by Lord Byron’s short vampire story Augustus Darvell, which was written at the same time as Frankenstein during their infamous ghost story competition at Villa Diodati. Augustus Darvell was inspired by Byron's travels through Eastern Europe, and was likely in part inspired by (another famous Romantic poet) Samuel Taylor Coleridge’s gothic poem Christabel, which Byron terrified Percy Shelley with after reading it aloud at the Villa Diodati, and which Byron loved so much that he helped Coleridge publish it through his own publisher. Christabel began in 1797 but wasn't published until 1816 for this reason.
To continue on vampires: Byron's enemy, the famous poet Robert Southey (who Byron roasted in Don Juan, among other works, and basically cancelled him as a result) also wrote a poem called Thalaba the Destroyer (1801) which is sometimes considered to be the first true depiction of a vampire in English literature. He also wrote it while traveling. Shelley (and Keats) both loved this poem, and so it also *could have* inspired some of the conversation at the Villa Diodati if Shelley had related the vampire theme to Christabel or Darvell. Southey is also the first English writer to write on Haitian zombi folklore, which would later become the zombie of modern horror. Southey was also reportedly in love with Mary Wollstonecraft Godwin, the mother of Mary Shelley and philosopher who wrote A Vindication of the Rights of Woman (1792), one of the most influential proto-feminist texts.
I relate these connections to demonstrate how small the literary world was at the time; so small that all the writers pretty much knew each other. In 1801, the English population was about 11 million, and in 1899 had grown to around 37 million due to industrialization (source: Black, Joseph, et al. "British Literature: A Historical Overview." The Broadview Anthology of British Literature, Broadview Press, vol. B, 2010, p. 70).
That's nearly the current population of London alone, but around 75% of that 11 million English population in 1801 was rural, whereas at the end of the century the national population was about 75% urban (source: same as prior), again due to industrialization. London in the early 19c was much less populated than today, and the amount of people who were educated or even merely literate was also much smaller than today. So really, it makes sense that all of the artists/writers/scientists/aristocrats knew each other. But it's still insane to see examples of how small the world really is and always has been.

The Rolling Stones Arrest Story
As The Rolling Stones' arrest history shows, it's hard to be the most popular rebellious band in the world without being behind bars once or twice.Scandalous, sometimes funny and even disturbing stories that musicians (and their families) have encountered over the years.
Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
February 12, 1967
The Rolling Stones' first brush with the law came when someone reported drug use to police during a party at Keith Richards' house.
Richards and Mick Jagger were arrested and four months later received sentences: three months in prison for Jagger and a year for Richards. Two months later, on appeal, the sentences were overturned.
Tumblr media
Brian Jones
May 10, 1967
Tumblr media
Shortly after Jagger and Richards (and their subsequent probation), Brian Jones was arrested for possession of marijuana and allowing friends to use it in his apartment. Like his bandmates, he was also given only a warning, but he didn't seem to be listening as carefully.
Brian Jones
May 21, 1968
Tumblr media
Almost exactly a year later, Jones was arrested again for marijuana possession, and this time he was facing a long prison term. A psychiatrist tried to help Jones avoid incarceration due to mental health problems, and the judge eventually took pity on him, releasing the guitarist with another stern warning.
Since then, it has become more difficult for Brian to obtain the visa required for the band's tour in the United States.
Mick Jagger and Marianne Faithfull
May 24, 1968
Tumblr media
On May 24, 1968, Mick Jagger and his girlfriend Marianne Faithfull were arrested for possession of marijuana (what else?). It happened on the same day that the Rolling Stones released Jumpin' Jack Flash, the single that launched the comeback following their ill-fated album Their Satanic Majesties Request.
Shirley Watts (wife of Charlie Watts)
February 16, 1972
Tumblr media
Drummer Charlie Watts has stuck to the law throughout his career in the band. But in 1972, his wife Shirley was arrested after she staged an incident at Nice International Airport in France. In particular, she was arrested for insulting and beating customs officers.
Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
July 18, 1972
Tumblr media
It seems that trouble follows them wherever they go. The musicians were arrested just before The Rolling Stones concert in Boston for fighting with a photographer in nearby Rhode Island. The mayor was forced to release them under personal responsibility in order for the show to take place.
"The Stones were arrested, but I released them!"  Mayor Kevin White told the audience at Boston Garden.
Keith Richards
June 26, 1973
Tumblr media
As a result of the scandalous raid at Richards' house in London, the musician was charged with possession of various drugs and paraphernalia. According to reports, his impressive cache consisted of grass, cannabis resin, Chinese heroin, mandrax tablets, burnt spoons, syringes and tubes.
Thanks to court documents that were made public in 2011, everyone found out that he also had a loaded pistol, a rifle and 110 rounds of ammunition. Richards claimed that he was framed by the police, and the weapon belonged to his tenant. As a result, the Whale managed to avoid further trouble.
Ronnie Wood and Keith Richards
July 5, 1975
Tumblr media
The fact that Richards and Ronnie Wood were arrested in Fordyce, Arkansas, has obviously become legendary in this city. After lunch, Richards, who was driving an Impala, was pulled over for reckless driving. The officers thought the couple smelled of marijuana, so they searched the car.
However, instead of marijuana, police found less than two grams of cocaine in a briefcase believed to belong to passenger Fred Sessler. Richards passed a sobriety test, but was arrested for carrying a hunting knife, which is considered an illegal weapon.
Keith Richards
February 27, 1977
Tumblr media
This arrest could have put an end to The Rolling Stones. Richards was arrested in Canada in February 1977 after police found heroin in his hotel room. He was charged with "possession of heroin for the purpose of trafficking," which in Canada can result in a prison sentence of seven years to life. His passport was confiscated. The musician stayed in the country until April 1977, when he was allowed to enter the United States on a medical visa for treatment of heroin addiction.
Fortunately for Richards, the charges were subsequently dropped to a simpler charge of drug possession. The judge showed leniency thanks to a blind woman who spoke about how Richards took care of her safety at the band's concerts. He pleaded guilty, received a suspended sentence and was sentenced to speak at a charity event for the benefit of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind.
Ronnie Wood
December 2, 1990
Fortunately, very few of the stories on this list involve any form of violence. However, on December 2, 1990, Wood was arrested after an argument with his then-girlfriend. After the incident, he received a "warning" from the police for a common assault.
Tumblr media
Ronnie Wood
December 2, 2009
Ronnie was arrested again on suspicion of violence in 2009. At that time, the 62-year-old guitarist was released on bail pending further investigation. The incident was related to Ekaterina Ivanova, a former waitress, for whom Wood left his wife.
Theodora Richards (Keith's daughter)
March 1, 2011
It looks like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it? In 2011, Keith Richards' daughter Theodora was arrested in New York. She was charged with graffiti, possession of a graffiti tool and possession of prohibited substances. Sources say she was carrying eight pills at the time of her arrest. The girl told the police that she had bought them from someone on the street.

TRIGGER WARNING: All forms of abuse, grooming, mental illness, stalking, paranoia/delusions/etc., self harm, eating disorders and overall saddening topics.
Read this with an open mind.
Summary of Elliot's and (somewhat) Rett's history/lore:
• Early life:
Elliot and Rett was born to an anomaly father and human mother further corrupting both of them and the rest of their siblings(6 including Elliot & Rett). Sadly both have faced all forms of abuse mainly from their father and reactive abuse from their mother. Pushing Elliot to develop amnesia as a way of coping(Elliot doesn't remember this unless therapy intervenes). Rett, however, suprising remembers a great deal of this.
Furthermore, at the age of 13 the family moved to America. It was quickly changed when CPS(or some other form of this) split the family up and deported the parents back to Greece. (Kept the children because they were "Exotic")
● Tween/Early teenage years:
Elliot starts to struggle even more with mental health issues. Falling into self harm/slight drug abuse. At around 14 years old Elliot starts to heavily pick up on the behavior. Elliot's abusive foster parents/group house doesn't help with this and in return Elliot tends to run away and stay outside more often to cope with this issue. Elliot aswell got moved around a lot and sent to multiple mental hospitals. School became a huge issue and Elliot suffered greatly with anxiety. Elliot was heavily troubled and his bizarre behavior made him a massive target for bullying. At a young age Elliot starts to develop more suicidal thinking and attempting it. (Staying with him up until 16-17)
Elliot sadly developed a heavy addiction to the internet and found many flings that ended up taking advantage of him. Once they discarded him, Elliot would find something else to fill in a void within himself. By late 14 going into 15, Elliot meets someone that goes by "Lu-Lu" online and develops a fascination with them. Later turning obsessive and protective of Lu. Lu ended returning the favor. They later on started dating and Lu shows more mentally ill characteristics. Then started to take advantage of Elliot, Lu revealed his real age, putting a worse dent into Elliot's mental health. Lu had ended up being a groomer towards Elliot. After a year of this Elliot broke things off and Lu caused an outrage. During all of this, Elliot develops anorexia as a way to cope/have control in life.
Rett struggled mentally with severe social anxiety and anxiety in general. School was a huge burden and he wanted out of it. Later on he developed severe panic attacks and would get sent to the nurse often until he got meds to help him. Rett sadly self harmed but quickly cut the issue out because of shame and regret. Rett's foster parents never helped with his issues until the school nurses got involved. After this he got helped and got put into different classes to help with this issue. Along with all of this, Rett let's on bizarre behavior and struggles with no filter on his mouth. Saying random and paranoia inducing things.
● Later teen years/Recent times:
Heads up: Both twins end up moving to Canada at different times. Rett ends up going first and sooner later Elliot. Due to the service they both went through to get adoptive parents, they were aware of the twins history. Contacted the adoptive parents and brought the twins together.
Elliot goes through intense therapy to cope with everything. Discovers Ms. Hamilton (therapist) a trusting adult in their life. (Elliot later on gets diagnosed with Schizoaffective disorder Bi polar type 2) Adoptive parents are extremely kind, overly kind. Elliot's paranoia gets increasingly worse by the minute due to this. He develops a paranoid delusion that they want something out of him. While this is the total opposite of what's going on, Elliot develops a more stiffer/stubborn personality by late 15 leading to 16. Elliot gets increasingly angry and hostile. Building up a terrible reputation for himself. Elliot cuts off most of his online internet usage as he sees the online word useless, until school stars up again with him. Even then it's still incredibly limited. During this (a more happier time in his life) Elliot starts to eat a normal amount, then overeating out of pure boredom. Elliot is overweight now.
Elliots reputation carried into school with him, luckily not many or at all many people knew of him. As he is a new student, in a new country, in a place with less than 400 in population. He saw school as a breeze now, he passed most things with ease. Then, he met one of his peers named "Draw", Draw showed an interest in Elliot, but Elliot didn't return the favor. Until Draws behavior shined onto Elliot more and more as the days grew. Elliot decided to take it upon himself to develop a new friendship, it ended up going extremely well. Draw showed such interaction with Elliots interests and was engaged with him. Later on tensions grew within the friendship.
Elliots new aquaried friend turned bitter sweet when Draws enthusiasm towards Elliot started to die out. He finds out that Draw has been engaging in high school gossip/rumors about Elliot, that he didn't like. Draw only wanted to engage with Elliot through an online app called "Frizzbee", this upsets Elliot. As Elliot sees this as a way to talk to him without talking to him at school. As his new girlfriend "Ava" puts it out that she doesn't like Elliot. Ava believes in the rumors. However, through all of this Elliot only stores the inner turmoil and releases it when Draw sends Elliot spiteful messages. Messages that show the deranged and ill side of Draw. Draws facade breaks through messages but Elliot cuts him out of his life when faced with this. Angering Draw and causing a stalker for life, Lu ends up stalking Elliot aswell when he finds his newer accounts.
Rett gets an amazing adoptive family and starts his healing journey once in Canada. Happily living life and aquaring new special interests. Later on attending school, Rett is faced with little to no challenges. People seem to be a lot nicer to him, seeing him as the "quiet kid" and someone to overlook in a not so harmful way.
Both the twins face each other and reunite after many years of seperation. Elliots intense paranoia flares up because he doesn't remember Rett. Amnesia consumes Elliot. Despite this Elliot makes an effort into helping and bonding with his newly gained best friend.
● Future/Later events:
- Elliot gains Blair as a stalker when Elliot doesn't return any of the favors Blair gives
- Peppermint/Basil become his partners. Basil being first than Peppermint
- Draw ends up stalker Elliot up into adulthood
- Lu stalks Elliot more heavily. Sicko.
- Elliot and Rett move in together for College

"UN CLEPTOMANE S'EVADE DE SAINT-JEAN-DE-DIEU," Le Petit Journal (Montreal). May 20, 1934. Page 20.

In light of Matthew Perry passing - I did a compare and contrast of Harry and Matthew's life......The similarities are uncanny BUT HOW each of these two men handled life's challenges are outstandingly different.
I composed this for your consideration...........
PRINCE HARRY - Born into privilege. Born with a title. Had a notorious temper which got him into trouble with physical altercations as well as getting involved with drugs and alcohol starting at a young age. Was bailed out of that trouble numerous times because of his family. Had a history of being lazy in school and cheating to pass his classes. Was a child of divorce where both parents married/involved with other people. Considered lazy by teachers, fellow soldiers & peers. Peers and coworkers found him nasty and unkind. Had no considerable talent and interests other than partying and using his position of Royalty for his own selfish needs. Has a history starting from childhood of not taking responsibility for anything that he had done wrong. Ex-girlfriends did not speak well of him. Was bamboozled into marrying a woman with questionable character. Made demands on his family for things that he did not deserve. "Wrote a book" or rather PAID someone to "write a book" that demonstrated whining and complaining about his life and his family. Within the book Harry not only demeaned his immediate family but also demeaned the people he had met along the way in his life. Within his "best-selling" book he recklessly and ignorantly Spoke of the "positive" nature of drug use and how using drugs had "helped" him in his life with NO concern of the DANGER of drugs. Believed that he was an "expert" of mental health when it was very clear by watching his behaviors that he was no expert in the field of mental health. Started illegitimate "charities" that demonstrate no true merit in helping people, all the while giving HIM money and providing a front/shell for money to funnel through. Took no responsibility for anything that he had done wrong in his life but rather blamed everyone else for his failures and misfortunes. Did not put any hard work into anything while wanting to be rewarded and paid for doing nothing, all the while relying on his titles for his notoriety. Continues to live attempting to "capture" fame and attention but still blaming others and rehashing traumatic childhood events. Finally......leaving behind a legacy of destruction, sadness, stupidity and darkness everywhere he goes.
MATTHEW PERRY - Born into an average, middle class family in Canada. Was a child of divorce with both parents marrying other people and having more children. Began to misbehave as a child getting into physical altercations with others, as well as destructive behaviors with drugs and alcohol. Demonstrated considerable hard work, practice and talent when he focused on his favorite interests of tennis and acting. Took a disciplined pathway to his success as a hard working full-time actor. Became a successful and respected actor, being nominated for several awards in comedy and drama. Colleagues always spoke well of Matthew commenting on his kindness, humility and work ethic. Former girlfriends spoke well of Matthew. Though he never married, not one past girlfriend spoke ill of him, only speaking well of him when he was alive and even after his death. He Became addicted to alcohol and drugs from a young age and focused continually on his mental and physical health and healing from his 20s until his death at age 54. Wrote a book HIMSELF detailing his life, addictions and mental health struggles that became a LEGITIMATE best seller. Started philanthropic charities not to "make money from" but to rather aid others who had suffered with addictions and mental health problems. Did not blame anyone or anything for his problems and addictions but rather, took full responsibility for his problems and addictions and spoke candidly about his relationship with God to save him. Did not repeatedly rehash any past traumas wanting people to "feel sorry for him" and using past traumas to "make money" off of them. Passed away at the age of 54 leaving behind a legacy of hard work, love, kindness and wisdom. Thank you Matthew and rest well in the Light of God.

Alright. I'm tired of misinformation going around. Let's talk about the ammendment of Bill C-7 / C-14 or MAID.
I apologize for getting political but half of these people making these dumbest videos have no fucking clue what they're talking about.
So let's get started.
History of Bill C-7:
MAID (medically assisted death) became legal in 2016.
In the beginning it was only for people who had terminal illnesses where their deaths were foreseeable.
You had to jump through many fucking hoops.
Now, the ammendment, Bill C-14.
In July 2020, our government passed C-14.
It removed the requirement for a persons death to be foreseeable.
It also introduced a temporary exclusion for people wanting MAID based SOLELY on a mental illness.
So what does this mean? As of March 17 2023, people who's sole condition in a mental illness can request MAID.
Some concerns I've seen people have:
"We'll lose so many teenagers!" -nope. Firstly, you have to be in an advanced state of decline that CANNOT be reversed. You also need to be 18. You also need to be in an unbearable amount of agony.
There are safeguards in place that medical professionals use to determine who gets MAID. A suicidal person cannot receive MAID.
Lastly, I've seen these dumbest videos of people saying that their doctor said "well have you considered MAID". They legally can't do that right now. I highly doubt the doctors have been suggesting this.
What can you do about this?
Listen, you're upset about it, and I get it, first you need to read the bill. Second, you can contact your MP RESPECTFULLY and state why you're against it. Minors can do this as well.
Amendments are made all the time. They can also be revoked.
And for fucks sake, stop spreading misinformation. If y'all have questions, ask.
If theres any wrong info here, I apologize. I do the best I can.

Sorry that this topic is heavy, but your posts are always very well thought out and I value your insight and antipsych perspective. What are your thoughts on some countries (now possibly including canada) allowing medically-assisted euthanasia for young mentally ill people if they request it? There was a story recently about a belgian terror attack victim being euthanized at 23 at her request. I personally believe that committing suicide is a right that every person should have because I think that punishing suicide attempters is the worst thing you can do for them, and ultimately, it’s their life and they deserve ultimate autonomy over it. Not that I think suicide should be encouraged, either, and having a specific government-endorsed suicide program seems sort of bad…? Like euthanizing young people comes with a lot of ethical complications — but I don’t know how to express why it feels weird given my personal beliefs about suicide being a right. (additionally, it feels even weirder because I do support these types of programs for the elderly (although i know what an ethical minefield those are too)). What are your thoughts?
Hey, anon. Thanks for bringing this up!
I have a lot of mixed thoughts about MAID (Medical assistance in dying) and also about what it means to consider suicide a right and in what ways I think that should play into mad organizing.
Firstly, I think the way that Canada's bill C-7 was written and the way it's being put into practice is just blatant eugenics. The rhetoric while legislators were debating and passing the bill made it clear the way they saw disabled lives as unworthy. In a context where many disabled people are forced to live in poverty, where treatment is often impossible to reach, where accessible affordable housing is often nonexistent, where the medical system is filled with ableism and stigma--it is incredibly fucked up to add suicide as an option on the table when there are so many coercive factors at play. Instead of working to make society more accessible and do things that improve the quality of life of disabled people of any age, the government and doctors are using MAID as a way to completely ignore structural ableism and spread narratives that disabled lives are not worth living. I am incredibly, incredibly infuriated about the way MAID was expanded in Canada. I would recommend that people check out the amazing work of the Disability Fillibuster to learn more about MAID in Canada.
Although I don't think every instance of MAID is inherently unethical, I am VERY wary of any bills that expand MAID like Bill C7 because I think that in the context of an ableist society that already doesn't consider disabled lives worth living and tells marginalized people every day millions of reasons why they wish we were dead, MAID bills will come with dangerous levels of coercion that cannot be safeguarded against. For example, the American medical system, with a long history of eugenic sterilization, medical experimentation on Black Americans, and widespread institutionalization, is not a system I ever trust to be able to handle the power of MAID without treating marginalized people's lives as disposable. (Link to read more about the history of medical experimentation: content warning for antiblack racism, sexual exploitation, slavery, and medical abuse of many types. )
At the same time, I am deeply invested in noncarceral approaches to suicide, and I believe that in order to effectively fight against psychiatric incarceration, we have to expand our understanding of the right to autonomy. The psych system, like many institutions of total control, weaponizes a fake concept of safety to justify depriving people of autonomy. In the context of prison abolition, Mariame Kaba and Andrea J. Ritchie use the phrase "carceral safety" to talk about the ways that police use the rhetoric of "safety" to continue perpetuating a violent system of incarceration:
"The state’s carceral safety robs our communities of the conditions and nutrients that would allow true safety to grow, forcing us into the position of constantly reaching for more security from the very institutions that make us collectively less safe." (from Reclaiming Safety, August 2022).
Similarly to police and prisons, the psych system wants us as mentally ill people to believe that the only way safety and suicide prevention can occur is within institutions where autonomy is deprioritized and any kind of abuse is acceptable if it can be explained as a "life-saving" measure. So part of noncarceral suicide prevention involves rethinking the way we think about autonomy, and prioritizing autonomy and freedom as inherent rights, regardless if people are making risky or harmful choices about their own wellbeing. Suicide should never be criminalized and I think that a step towards decarcerating suicide requires us to embrace the importance of autonomy.
Rethinking autonomy to include the right to harm ourselves is something that I think is an important topic to grapple with in noncarceral suicide prevention, but I think it's one we also have to be careful with and approach with a lot of nuance when talking about it publically. Approaching suicide prevention with a bodily autonomy framework does not mean that we need to support government-sanctioned suicide, does not mean we need to advocate for eugenic policies, does not mean that we should advocate suicide for marginalized people who are already so used to being told that the world wants them dead. Suicide prevention is incredibly important to me, and it will never feel liberatory to me if I'm using my understanding of bodily autonomy to promote suicide in any way. Liberatory suicide prevention includes more than just noncarceral crisis response and helping people map through their distress. It also includes advocating for the material conditions we need to survive in our everyday life, and in my mind, that includes things like advocating for disabled people to have our basic needs met so that we don't have to live in poverty, inaccessible housing, and aren't coerced into suicide through eugenicist bills like Bill C7 in Canada.
Definitely think there is a LOT more to say on this topic and that my opinion is not the only way of looking at this, so I absolutely encourage followers to jump into the discussion.

Hey uh you guys know that MAiD in Canada is essentially attempted eugenics right? And that able bodied mentally ill people joking about wanting it the come to the U.S. is in incredibly poor taste right?
There are good right to death programs in other countries but MAiD specifically is a human rights nightmare please don't fucking joke about it
I understand that psychologically disabled people might not be fully able to grasp this but physdisabled people fight every day for our right to live. There are a staggering number of people who think that the most "humane" option is to kill us all. There are a staggering number of people when think that the most "economical" option is to kill us all. A program pushing (and yes, as you'll read in the article pushing is happening) physdisabled people to kill ourselves rather than actually having to provide for us isn't funny, it's horrifying.

Hii! I saw you have a restraining order til 2099 (so happy for you!!) and I was wondering if you'd be comfortable talking about how you were able to get one approved for that long? Or if you have any resources to share? I've only ever found very short-term restraining orders and no contact orders where I am, so seeing 2099 gave me some hope 💙
Hi Lee! It's dependent on the place you live in and what the judge thinks of your case. Lengthy/permanent restraining orders aren't standard in most states and are usually up to judge discretion. South Carolina has a list of qualifying criminal offenses for a permanent restraining order. The state I got my restraining order in typically issues a maximum of 2 year restraining orders and they don't have a list for what qualifies you for a longer duration restraining order and don't even really list a longer restraining order as an option. I would search permanent restraining order/protection order and your area to see if they have a criteria like SC or other helpful information, but even if they don't it doesn't mean they don't occasionally issue those. In that case I'd ask a lawyer.
I don't really remember my court case, mostly just snippets. After the court case I actually completely forgot that I had a restraining order at all for some years. So I can't give many personal court tips, but I can give facts about my case if it's helpful? The person I have a restraining order against has 7 or 8 DUIs, is banned from entering Canada because of assault and property damage, some assault charges, tax evasion, a few stints in jail, and took my savings and bought a shotgun and body bags the day before I escaped. I also had video and photo evidence and had written journal entries documenting abuse (thanks to the CPS case worker that told me to do it), recent evidence of trafficking, the whole multiple head injuries thing, history of multiple CPS visits, and evidence that they were showing up to DV shelters/transition housing/peoples' houses that I was at regardless of how frequently I changed locations. I think I also had several witnesses, but honestly my memory is so hazy on the court case that it could have just been other alters. So big paper trail. I do remember that even still I had the accuracy of my memory questioned in court and they tried to do the whole untrustworthy mentally ill angle. It helped to be dissociative because the external effect was that I was just answering questions very calmly, which meant the "they're insane" angle didn't work too well. It did take I think a year, maybe slightly longer, to get all the way from filing to getting the restraining order (although I also got issued a temporary emergency one during the whole thing).

People are terrified of euthanasia being legal. There is this huge myth that people can take their elderly to Switzerland to be euthanised, but it isn't true. By law you must be a swiss national and you must have what is called "capacity to consent" wherein no one can make that choice for you and you can only make that choice if you are considered able to consent. That means people who are mentally ill to the point of having little understanding of the situation are NOT eligible for euthanasia.
They also tend not to consider you eligible for euthanasia if you have a history of depression. If you are bipolar, schizophrenic or have a mental illness that messes with your perception and/or gives suicidal thoughts prior to having a terminal illness, you are not eligible.
You must go through counselling for several weeks after you decide to go through with it, and the slightest change in decision will cancel the whole thing. You can also cancel up til the very last second with no problem. Again, they will not do it if you are not awake and fully, 100% conscious. The slightest doubt that the person cannot consent properly or has changed their mind calls it off.
There was an article about a "death chamber" with carbon monoxide or something. Exit immediately said it was inhumane and rejected the invention. People claiming the swiss are going to use it can't do their due diligence.
Also, the swiss euthanasia program isn't a government program. They also protect the swiss right to refuse resuscitation, which is rather rampantly denied.
Just wanted your thoughts on this, as Trudeau showed up on my dash and people are freaking out about euthanasia and insulting Switzerland for allowing it, whilst claiming we just kill off anyone we want for profit.
The death pod, ya slowly pulls all the oxygen out and replaces it with nitrogen all things considered there's worse ways to go about it this is probably one of the gentler versions.
Tumblr media
Don't know a whole lot about your laws regarding this, I'll take your word on all the steps and requirements about it, which seem more robust than Canada's and Belgium's from what I've seen and can recall.
Got very little info on Canada, but I know Belgium has about the same only one I can say with 100% certainty is different is you don't need to be Belgian, British guy who's ex girlfriend threw acid on his face leaving him scared and in excruciating pain got a green light and there was a I think Aussie scientist who was just old and wanted to go before his brain gave out or something like that.
People are going to see this kind of thing and it's gonna hit a primal point in their brains.
I think as it goes the best option people in your situation have is just do your best to tune it out very few people are going to be listening to folks that actually know and even less will be believing them I'd wager.
I will say the pods look cool, even if that is a bit macabre.
Hopefully time does its trick and people let the actual information get absorbed in their heads, gonna have people opposed regardless but at least they'll be informed

Organization Sign-On Letter: Stop Perpetuating Racist Rhetoric Against Ethnic Minorities and Indigenous Peoples in Russia
Tumblr media
In a recent interview, Pope Francis mentioned Chechens and Buryats as “cruelest” perpetrators of the war in Ukraine. “When I speak about Ukraine, I speak about the cruelty because I have much information about the cruelty of the troops that come in. Generally, the cruelest are perhaps those who are of Russia but are not of the Russian tradition, such as the Chechens, the Buryati and so on,” the Pope shared in an interview with America The Jesuit Review magazine published on November 28, 2022. CNN reported on the Pope’s remarks on November 29, but mainstream media in Europe and the U.S. has previously amplified this misinformation, which is steeped in racism. On August 9, 2022, coincidentally International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, journalist and author of “Killer in the Kremlin” John Sweeney in an interview with CNN stated, “On the outskirts of Bucha…the Russian soldiers we saw weren’t ethic Russians, they were Buryats, Mongols…” implying Buryats and Mongols were solely responsible for the atrocities.
Enough is enough!
We denounce this racist and hateful rhetoric and call the world’s attention to the fact that these narratives are created and promoted by the Russian State, which is now attacking Ukrainian independence. Minorities and Indigenous Peoples in Russia face stereotypes, discrimination, and marginalization, and Russian propaganda has deliberately used them as faces of the war in order to distance violence and injustice from the Russian political regime. The Pope’s repetition of Russian propaganda is an ill-informed and dangerous accusation that perpetuates harmful, racist and colonial myths that stem from Russia’s long and violent imperial  history. These accusations by the Pope are forms of double colonialism, genocide, and a horrific history set to repeat.
The Russian Federation is home to millions of people of diverse ethnicities, including Indigenous populations spread across roughly two-thirds of Russian territory and representing 2% of that region’s population. There are 47 Peoples recognized as Indigenous under Russian law and defined as “Indigenous small-numbered Peoples of the Russian Federation.” Within the Federation, to be recognized as “Indigenous”, a group must fit distinct qualities, including numbering under 50,000 individuals, practicing traditional customs, inhabiting a remote area, and maintaining a distinct ethnic identity. This State-imposed definition prevents approximately 140 Indigenous Peoples, including for example, Buryats, Altaians, Sakha, and Peoples of southwestern Russia, from claiming Indigenous rights through official recognition by Russia.
Many see Putin’s recent forced mobilization of soldiers for the war against Ukraine as an “ethnic cleansing of Indigenous Peoples” as it has disproportionately affected ethnic and Indigenous people in Russia.
This summer, Pope Francis made an apology to Indigenous Peoples in Canada for the Church’s role in the genocidal atrocities that took place at boarding schools and apologized for the “colonizing mentality” of the times. But his latest interview with America shows that colonial mentality is yet to be overcome. As the head of the Catholic Church, the Pope needs to acknowledge the Church’s role in past atrocities around the world and actively work to stop the perpetuation of racist, colonial narratives.
We, representatives of Indigenous Peoples, other nations, and civil society:
Demand the Pope apologize to Chechens and Buryats for perpetuating colonial stereotypes. Whole Peoples should not be vilified and blamed for the actions of the Russian State.
Strongly encourage that Pope Francis meets with Indigenous Peoples from Russia to start a discussion about overcoming the stereotypes of our common colonial history.
Also demand that mainstream media, like CNN,  recognize their role in sustaining these stereotypes and call them out outright.
