How do you do such aesthetic and well organized sketchbooks cause thats what I want to do in my life
It’s very sweet of you to think I organise my sketchbooks because I don’t have the capacity most of the time HAHA.
But I do have useful tips and tricks! Firstly, if you’re feeling really ambitious and high-effort, you could plan/thumbnail the page. I did that with this one because it was the last page and I wanted it to look good
Tumblr media
Most of the time though, I just sketch. Which brings me to the Low Effort tips. This includes using pens of a lighter colour or different colour as a base, and then choosing the best ones to line with a darker colour. For example:
Tumblr media
It’s a great way to draw attention away from the sketches you’re less proud of too. I also do that by highlighting sketches I like the best with coloured markers or highlighters:
Tumblr media
In terms of composition, for loose sketches, a variety of poses, sizes, and placements give a more dynamic look!
Tumblr media
And finally, I cheat by covering up sketches I don’t like with sticky notes and drawing over it. Also by pasting external cut-out drawings. It’s fun!
Tumblr media
My sketchbook is also sort of a collection of little scrappy sticky notes from my studies (that I use to cover up drawings I’m unsatisfied with) and stickers and receipts I picked up along the way. It gives it a more personalised feel and I like looking back on it and remembering where I was that day, or the events associated with those things. Aesthetics are fun and I love a good ol aesthetic spread but most of my pages are kinda eh and full of pasted things. And that makes it a lot less intimidating to draw in my sketchbook haha

"The Mechanisms were Jonathan Sims college band" and "Jon is the secret real past of Jonny D'ville" are both great takes but I present "Jon's descend into an unwilling antichirst figure is The Mecs new album and Jonny plays him in the songs because they just have very similar voices for some reason."

Hey Viv! Do you have any tips for drawing anatomy?
weh... not really... after spending most of the year taking a break and only recently drawing again, I've come to the realization that my anatomy has so much farther to go. I will, however, share some things that I think are valuable for me and a part of how I draw:
in terms of the basics: aside from online tutorials, which are a lot of help, I have multiple books that I studied intensely off of. my favorite is this. I've seen artists be able to draw without guidelines and the infamous circles and sausages, but the way I draw is pretty similar to that wherein I draw very basic forms. some examples I can show that aren't too embarrassing:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
everyone has their own way of problem solving anatomy/poses. mine is this: start with stickmen, really bad doodles that vaguely capture the essence of what I want to draw. and then I draw a really bad doodle developed off that. then I try a more refined sketch. and I redraw the entire sketch multiple times (as you can see in the examples above). oftentimes I'll duplicate the layer and continue reworking the sketch, and going back and forth to see which iteration works better. I think this would be tedious for many people, but that's what works best for me
sometimes, it's not just about drawing the pose anatomically correct. it's also about drawing it in a way that's convincing and aesthetically pleasing. a pose may be structurally sound, but is it the best portrayal? would it benefit from a bit of angle adjusting? is the way a knee or elbow foreshortened awkward? is there a better way to depict the kind of motion or pose you're trying to express, yet it doesn't totally adhere to logic? ironically, sometimes breaking the rules a little can make a pose more convincing. this only truly works when you have a good handle on the ways the human body can bend and move, though
I did already answer this kind of question years ago somewhere on this blog with different answers involving reference pictures and practice (you can check it out if you feel like it) so there's not much more I think I can say on the subject. but aside from that, I hope any of this was useful!!

Do you have any theories/thoughts on why the last dragon tear is on the Rist Peninsula? Like..lore reason wise? Or did they just pick that spot cause it has a fancy spiral? This thought hasn't left my brain for weeks.
this question got me thinking, because there are quite a few spots on the totk map that are significant lore-wise in that they mention locations in other games and/or were significant in botw, but rist penninsula isn't one of them. of the locations that the geoglyphs and tears fall on, a few of their names appear to reference characters and locations in other games, which is a common theme among minor location names on the botw/totk map. aside from the naming conventions, though, none of these places share distinguishing features with any map locations in other games. there ARE certain locations on the botw/totk map that are very clearly meant to correspond to the maps of other games/cycles, but those locations will almost always have both a specific name referencing the other map's location AND distinguishing features which mirror the features of the other map very closely if not identically. the geoglyph locations pretty clearly aren't that, so the names are likely just easter eggs. these locations also don't have any significance on the BOTW map from what I can tell, aside from the occasional shrine location, which is less important to the point i'm trying to make here but this is already full of useless information bc i did the research so i might as well give you all of it. the important point here is that none of the dragon tear locations are present in any other map of hyrule aside from the botw/totk iteration.
why is this significant? because it means that botw/totk era-hyrule is the ONLY hyrule in which these locations exist. this fact, combined with the fact that certain locations seem almost designed with their respective geoglyphs in mind (the most prominent example is cape cresia's shape being perfectly fitted to the scimitar glyph, but to a lesser extent the tabantha snowfield ganondorf glyph and the NW eldin mountains master sword glyph both finding large, flat spaces suited to their respective shapes, and, of course, the final tear dropping perfectly in the center of rist penninsula's spiral, suggests that these geoglyphs and these memories were tied specifically to the version of hyrule that we see in botw/totk. Whether this has greater implications as to how the timeline of totk plays out or if it's just an indication that zelda was holding on to her memories of the version of hyrule she grew up in is up to you.
that's all i've got in terms of concrete lore, but on a more artistic level i think there is definitely a reason the last tear falls in the center of that spiral. totk continuously uses an ouroboros motif--a snakelike dragon eating itself in a continuous circle. the four dragons circle the map in continuous loops, repeating the same route endlessly, likely for thousands upon thousands of years. the spiral of rist is somewhat reminiscent of that repetition to me, but with one key difference--it ends. there is a concrete end point at the center of the spiral. once you go around it a certain number of times, the circular motion stops. you're free of the cycle. the final tear, in which zelda begs link to come to her, to find her, to SAVE her, falls at the center of that spiral, at the end of a repeating pattern of circular motions. zelda, like the other dragons, has been trapped in an ouroboros cycle for thousands of years. unable to speak, unable to remember, unable to do anything but follow her same circular path through the sky. but zelda's fate is not actually so bleak and unchangable--she's not in an ouroboros, she's in a SPIRAL. all she has to do is make it to the "center"--to wait it out until link can find her and save her, and she will be human again, and that circular motion will finally stop, and she'll be free to live her life again, to truly move forward. the act of journeying to the center of the spiral to get the last tear is forcing the player to adopt that same circular motion that zelda has been experiencing all these years, and to find the relief at the end--a microdose of the bigger battle zelda has been fighting, and which they will soon have to fight, to get her back once and for all.

hi i just discovered your beautiful art so i obviously needed to scroll down your whole blog to catch up on everything you posted haha
i just wanted to say that i got way too emotional after reading that post of yours regarding mw3 and your mental health… on one hand i’m so sorry that you felt that way, but on the other i feel it with my whole heart
ghoap content especially for me helped me these past few months with my mental health in ways i would never have expected, it was my solace and inspiration, i started working out too and got back into drawing, got a lot better at it as well!
but unfortunately i get way too fixated on fictional stuff and there comes a time that my brain switches up and connects the things i liked and comforted me with things that make me extremely uncomfortable and stressed out, especially if i fall down a fandom rabbit hole that i would never have searched up, beacuse i know myself, i know my limits and triggers but i feel like i’m not a part of the fandom if i don’t like and interact with every single headcanon, art and ship
these past days i was really down because of that, and the things i read (why did i do that???) and now when i think of ghoap i think of that stuff and im scared that i alienated myself from the one thing that made me happy
but discovering your art and with that your post reminded me that im not alone in these feelings, even if it’s not the same exactly, and i wanted to thank you, for sharing your thoughts that time i guess haha <33
((sorry for rambling))
Long reply under 'keep reading' !! CW: talk of triggers and MCD
Always feel free to ramble my way!!! How nice you could find some comfort in my art and ghoap stuff. Especially in my mw3 post. I've been considering deleting it a few times, but hearing it maybe helped to read in some way makes me happy I left it up.
I get where you're coming from - I very much use these fictional characters as a safe space, but ppl view them very differently. There's room for it all, "don't like, don't interact" is very much a policy I agree with. It's important to mute words and be aware of your own triggers as you browse stuff in this fandom, because there's such a wide variety of stuff out there. You do NOT have to interact and agree with every thought people have on this ship, that's impossible and super stressful. There's plenty of stuff and headcanons I don't vibe with. There are no 'requirements' that you have to meet in order to enjoy fiction.
It's part of why I enjoy ghoap - that their dynamic resonates and has sparked so much creativity and outlets for so many - but it also means there's gonna be a lot of stuff u don't necessarily agree with or feel comfortable with. For example, a lot of folks use the MCD in mw3 as a way to explore grief, which I think is really cool, but on a bad day that could potentially get my brain in a bad headspace, so I only check out that art and those fics when I feel okay. There's also a bunch of stuff I'd never want to interact with, and that’s fine !!
I'm personally quite vanilla and a sucker for exploring the softer, more domestic aspects of these characters. It's what brings me joy. I know there are parts of this fandom who don’t vibe with what I make at all, and would call it untrue to the characters. Some creators enjoy exploring the more violent or toxic sides to the source material. That's just how it is, we all need different things from fiction. As long as we're capable of chilling in our respective sandboxes, then all's good.
But if you're like me, and enjoy the softer things, then definitely be aware and careful while exploring this ship and fandom. I've seen takes on these characters that are so far removed from how I view them, that they're basically the complete opposite, and it can leave a very bad taste, especially if you're the type to hinge your safe space on fiction.
Just... be mindful of yourself and your potential triggers, be respectful and don't interact with things that make you uncomfortable to the point of feeling unsafe. Shape your own online experience to your best ability.
Hope you're doing okay and still find joy in ghoap <3

Tips For Living With ADHD
Reminders are your best friend. Get a reminder app. Use it obsessively.
Put things in line of sight. For example, leave your toothbrush out on the counter if you can. See the toothbrush, remember to brush teeth.
Sometimes you will just NOT be able to focus, despite your best efforts. Don't beat yourself up over it
Reminders are your best friend
Get some people who can hold you accountable and bully you into doing things. let them know what you're going to be working on and report back when you've finished
If you need to do something in two hours (or any amount of time), set a timer
Basically you will forget to do anything and everything so the goal is to make it as easy to remember as you can
Sometimes if your brain can't focus, go find something that you can focus on. That can trick it into focus mode. Just make sure to not get too distracted and use up all your brain power particles.
To stay better hydrated, take a water bottle with you everywhere. I mean everywhere. Have it in line of sight at all times so you'll remember it when you need liquid
You might need more stimulation in order to focus. For me, listening to music (especially with lyrics) really helps. That might not work for anyone, but if you find something that works for you, use it. Use it all the time.
Have a body double. Get someone to sit with you with you work. You don't need to talk or interact, just have them there. They can be doing whatever they want. It really works.
You're going to forget if you took your medication or not. Have a paper or something that you can mark off on immediately after you take it. Leave your medication somewhere where you can see it so you won't forget it exists.
Reward yourself when you meet your goals! Celebrate little victories! Make working as fun for yourself as you can
You got this!
