A twisted wonderland mafia au

Authors note: So I had barely any ideas to write for the current aus I have, and since I've seen so many mafia aus in twisted wonderland, might as well join the party since I'm a sucker for these types of aus. Sorry for the lack of posting for who knows how long :D

1. A fresh start

Tonight was as cold as usual, the strong winds blowing at the curtains which are threatening to fall at any moment didn't make you flinch that much. After all, there was nothing to keep you warm and nothing you could use to shelter your self. All you could smell was the smell of rotting food, the stench of animal feces, and a tingling iron smell...

What a terrible end isn't it?

But you couldn't bother to go and poke your head into the "commotion" near your dwelling, you are exhausted, starved and thirsty. Your body would not dare to move an inch as if it would shatter against the wind, so you caved into the tiredness and sat there, curled up into a defensive state, to hope for the best that those hooligans will march off to wherever they want after they're done with their business.

You could also nip some of the cash from the dead body if they haven't taken them the next morning, it would be nice to have a decent meal-

"It seems we have another guest near our disposal area." To what you made out was a word from a man said. If they're going to kill off all the witnesses, it better be a painless death.

All of a sudden, you felt a hand on your head, gently patting you as if you were a dog.

"Oh look what I found, a pup in the alley, albeit their looks need more refining."

You groaned, smacking the hand that patted your head. What you don't need now is an empty compliment from a murderer, maybe you should have ran away if they were going to react like this.

"A little Imp? It's been a while since I've last seen them when I worked at a school, I thought nowadays these imps would be in human trafficking."

Okay. You're very annoyed.

Looking up with an unamused face, you probably saw a man who dressed like a super star with his furcoat and the other with skeleton looking features on their skin. You don't know the details fully with your eyes being blurry from all those days on the street.

"Well, since I am such a gracious man, what if we make a deal, little child?" Another voice chimed in

You perked at those words, a deal? You know adults hardly keep their promises, but would a mafia not? It's worth a shot to get yourself out of this wretched place.

"I'll hear you out, Sir."

BANG. The man that was on his knees, trembling and begging for mercy now has a big bullet hole in his forehead. You aren't the type of person who takes in joy from torturing people, but seeing people begging for their life seems ironic to you. Nobody would spare a child who stole food even if they cried for forgiveness.

You took out a note to see what is next on your to-do list.

"Go back and report to Sir pain in the butt, looks like I just need to report back to him that I've dealt with the traitor that I'll get my next gig." You yawned, stretching your hands out. You've been working overtime lately just to earn a sufficient amount to feed yourself, your cat and pay for rent. The image of Grim giving you attitude just because you come home late for his dinner bloomed a smile on your face, an expression that nobody saw, nobody alive saw at least.

Rrrriinnngg Rrrrrinnggggg.

You wasted no time and answered the call, only to receive another news.

"What did you just say Mister Oh so generous Dire Crowley?"

so, loaf anon here, things started getting better then got worse again, i am so stressed and i’m afraid but that’s not why i’m here i’m here to talk about block men because i got idea, i’ll probably be returning just not as active

ok ok so like mafia/mob au with the classic mob boss (es) at a club and the very classic like sitting on a chair one arm resting on the back holding the drink legs wide loose neck tie we all know that pose. while looking at one of the dancers so with that

cub and scar as the mafia bosses (co bosses??) looking at a pretty little bird on stage i can imagine they go to talk to him just talk but he’s had to many close calls and pulls out some vicious self defense and punches one of them while simultaneously kicking the other, then walking away like nothing and they both just go ‘he’s so hot.’ then they have to work towards getting to know him while convincing him they’re not a threat and if he wanted he’d be a good addition and trying to woo him

eventually they all get together and people underestimate the new sudden second in command until he kills a room full of people with heels on

what’s your favorite books as of now?? i’d love to hear you talk about them if you have some

HAHA this has to be honestly one of the most endearing asks i've ever had in my inbox. fair warning, i will literally be talking a lot for this one because i am first and foremost a nerd before all else. all links bring you to the books' respective goodreads page :)

remember to read through the content / trigger warnings of each book before you read them! reading should never come at the expense of your own mental well-being. be wise.

my number one current favourite novel is these violent delights by chloe gong. it's actually the first book in a duology, but i've been procrastinating on the second novel lol. the premise is a romeo & juliette retelling set in 1920s shanghai with a mafia setting and childhood lovers turned bitter enemies. it's one of my favourite tropes ever, and these violent delights executed it beautifully. honestly unsurrpised that it was as much of a hit as it was because god. it deserves it.

i also really, really, really love the seven husbands of evelyn hugo with my whole heart. the premise of it is positively stunning and i'm a sucker for tragic gay people. i lowkey jumped into it half-blind sided by the cool edits i found on instagram only to get smacked in the face with a lot more depth than meets the eye. the line about non-sexual intimacy in this book both smothered me to death and brought me back to life. i read this book in one day and walked out of it gasping for air.

i am also into the invisible life of addie larue due to the poignant way the author depicts a life without being remembered... even if the ending brutally demolished me. it was the epitome of 'immortality is a curse,' for me and it was just. fuck, man. it's fucking brilliant from the beginning to the end, and it's just a novel that i hold very close to my heart.

now, i know you said books, but i will be incomplete if not for the fanfiction i read. therefore, i will list all-time favourite fanfiction (that i remember right now). all of them are linked to archive of our own <3

being neck-deep in satosugu hell right now, i will have to start with them. i'd like to begin with my two favourite satosugu fanfictions which are caesura by cielelyse, otherwise known as the only canon 15 satosugu in my mind ever. the dynamic is fucking insane, and i cried a lot when i read it. there is also, of course, and carry my home by valleykey which i have reread despite the fact that it's 50k words and killed me brutally the first time. it follows 17!satosugu who gets time traveled towards the present time / pre-shibuya. it goes about as well as you would expect it to be.

other fics that also brutally murdered me and made me physically cry was punishment for a monster by mimiquack (suguru loses his memories post-shibuya and lives a non-sorcerer life; satoru copes...or something), i'd like the sun to set with you by chuuyasoup (satoru goes with suguru that day in shinjuku), smile like brass by chuuyasoup (role reversal au that starts with suguru being too late on that day), and laundry and taxes by hamsterqinghua (everything, everywhere, all at once au, you can guess where it goes from here). these are all angst fics that ripped a hand through my ribs and crushed my heart in their palms. there's more, but. well.

my favourite satosugu smut fics (because i am, after all, a smut author) is the midnight rendezvous series by damiselart. also, let's climb the cliff and jump again by ruche which hm, i suppose technically counts as an age gap fic because it's 28!satoru getting his shit rocked by 17!suguru (time travel finicky stuff; you know how it goes). and then, there are also these two other fics, lovesick lullabye and i'm done carrying the weight of this world (i just wanna feel this love) which are both by pastelcoloureddreams.

now, onto my next idiotic duo, i would like to present soukoku (dazai osamu / nakahara chuuya from bsd) and my favourite fics for them. starting off strong as a combination one of my favourite ships and one of my favourite books, i'd like to present empire of dirt by arkastadt which is a the seven husbands of evelyn hugo inspired soukoku fanfic with similar premise, but a massively different setting & plot. one of the best known soukoku fics for a reason. there is also, of course, i step from here without you by chuuyasoup that follows soukoku throughout the multiverse and murdered me in cold blood by the time it was done. genuinely one of the best fics i have ever read ever.

onto smut soukoku fics, everyone welcome bottom of the deep blue sea by arkastadt which is the only soukoku smut fic ever. you cannot ask me to give you a smut recommendation better than this. the premise is gorgeous, featuring an arrogant and self-assured dazai who challenges chuuya to make him cry and chuuya does. it's so fucking good.

there's definitely more that i've cut back from this list due to laziness, but feel free to ask for more if you're still interested! i was also neckdeep in hell in genshin & voltron & boku no hero academia for a while, so i should have fic recs for them, too, but i'm too lazy to hunt them down right now. if you want me to, just shoot me another ask and i'll drop the recs in the future <3

The Skyline Pigeons AU…

Chuuya — who’s always taken care of others and cared more for them than himself and rarely (if ever) let someone take care of him (especially outside of post-Corruption) — finally being taken care of (even if he has to be kidnapped and forced into it). I love it!

I actually read a currently incomplete fic that was a similar situation but the opposite — where Oda died but Dazai didn’t reach him in time to hear his last words so he stayed in the Mafia but was spiraling hard. It was all Chuuya could do to keep him going and upon realizing that Mori wasn’t going to do anything to help him, Chuuya kidnaps Dazai and runs away to a farm in the country (he took advice from Verlaine).

YEAH :D Chuuya deserves to be taken care of! And also just…be able to be in a situation where his power isn’t needed by someone else for a little bit. I think it would be very hard for Chuuya to accept but that ultimately it would be good for him (thinking about that one scene in Storm Bringer where he says that if he didn’t have his power he would have been able to stay with the Sheep aaaagh ;; )

their first kill was some small time ability user; they didn't know about how their ability worked until this point

i like to think they're working their way into the heart of yokohama, where the ada and pm reside. yokohama is known for having multille active ability groups so it's where their later kills will be focused. ango, oda, hirotsu and akutagawa were tasked to find sk reader first, which is how they ended up being killed by sk reader. initially these names were near the bottom of their list, since they were planning on slowly infiltrating yokohama, and killing off prominent users would hardly let them work unnoticed

i'm still working on sk reader's ability, but their ability allows them to take the ability of users they kill, so that's another main motivator. they kill for the ability they want to have. it probably started out as a survival thing, but now they just do it for the ability

it just looks like random murders to the public, though it appears to be done by the same person. a lot of ability users don't let others know about their abilities, so it's the special division and other ability user groups that figure out the murderer is only targeting ability users first

i think it'll be hard to write anything between ada and sk reader except for them wanting to throw them in jail bc dazai is obvs going to be very upset about oda's death, and fukuzawa wants to restore order to ability users in yokohama. sk reader is like. an irredeemable bad guy ㅠㅠ

pm, since mori sent his people after sk reader i don't think he'll be as upset as surprised. he might actually try to recruit sk reader or at least see what they're up to bc they killed many of his strong members already. i don't think the other mafioso will be too thrilled about meeting sk reader though...

🍉 Oh god this is really tough!!! I would say that pre-INYT I would mostly say shorter fics. Oneshots, drabbles, and shorter multi-chaptered projects. But INYT has been insanely fulfilling to me. Getting to explore a larger narrative and crafting a longer story has been such a treat, plus having grown a community of consistent readers and commenters is rewarding in a way I would have never expected!!! I still love my drabbles and oneshots, but I think I love them for a different reason now. I like being able to just get out a short and sweet idea in 1.5k words, because sometimes that's all it needs! So the tldr is both, lol

🍍 I am a sucker for modern AUs, fantasy, non-massacre, and honestly anything really hyper-specific and fun! I think when authors really lean in to the world they are writing, it can be pulled of in an amazing and really convincing way to where I can enjoy it! Like, I may not love a pirate AU yet, but give me a really compelling one and I can be convinced! (I actually think a pirate AU would be awesome, I think about a Naruto/One Piece situation far too often). I like historic AUs (I am writing an 80s AU after all), but I have found that I am pickier about them. My all time favorite AUs would probably have to be, in no specific order: rockstar/band/music, college, domestic, high fantasy, modern (generally), and non-massacre!

AUs I don't totally vibe with are probably like royalty AUs, coffeeshop, zombie, mafia, and omegaverse related AUs. 🍏 I think in every one of my projects there is always a word or phrase that I feel like I overuse and have to command f for to check myself. Honestly, my smut is probably the worst culprit for repetition mostly because I think I like to write smut a certain way. I want it to have a certain vibe so I find myself going to words like "languid" and "soft" more often than not.

I have received hate for my characterization of Jason Todd in my ‘My School’s Local Mafia Boss’ AU! Again. 

God, what does it take for people to freaking realize how much time and energy authors put into their work? 

I’m gonna be copying and pasting some of the things I’ve said as replies from the fic here, because I think I covered everything there.

First off, why even bother reading if you hate characterization so much? People have been saying this for a long long time. Just click out. 

Second, what exactly do you expect from authors once you say that you don’t like their works? Do you expect an apology? Do you expect them to change everything they’re written? Like, I’ve written two whole series on that AU, one of which has 8 works, and the other which has 6 works. And there are multiple multi-chapter fics there. Or do you want them to give some hate back at you for some weird thirst for attention? Cuz believe it or not, that has happened.

You got three options, dear reader and commenter:

a) Don’t read. I guarantee that the authors don’t want you reading it anyway.

b) Use that amazing ability of yours to form words for a more superbar reason, like, oh I don’t know, commenting on the fics you do like

c) Write your own freaking fic, but leave other authors out of it

I have said, time and time again that this is, literally, fiction. It’s— oh come on! It’s legit in the word. Fanfiction. Characterizations vary with different people and it is that variousness that makes a fandom. It’s that difference of ideas and perspectives that makes the whole community beautiful. But when that difference is forced upon another difference, it just ruins the beauty of fandom.

For the people who don’t agree with my characterization and want to comment on it: many abused victims help and heal themselves by helping others heal. And just because Tim’s my favorite character and I am a sucker for Jason being a big brother to him, this fic is portrayed that way. It is very much favoritism and I am not ashamed of it.

I genuinely did do so much research on both the series like watching old clips, reading comic panels, reading posts with Red Hood vs Robin characterization and comparative characterization between Jason and other characters + trauma and medical related research. I did that for everyone lol. There's a reason why I write fanfiction. I've deep-dived into analyzations on tumblr and pinterest and talked about it to friends and my dad and formed my own conclusions for it and, idk, I've received like three or something comments that said they didn't like the characterization. I get that people are OOC here, but that's because I was concentrating on abuse and its effects along with the storyline.

I did so much research. My google docs are a mess.

at the moment the au doesn't really have a definitive plot or story because this au was literally because I am a sucker for a bit of terrifying jimmy and the trope of like, oh the guy who looks pathetic in the group is actually the final boss (also codfather and godfather lmao-)

but the current idea I have right now is like, the others works under Jimmy obviously, and they're the ones constantly in the field, while Jimmy works in the background, the one behind the screens, this mysterious guy named the codfather.

Pix is more of a calm yet terrifying aura, but is also a bit petty, Joel is literally still a cocky bastard who don't take things seriously but he can be serious if it interests him enough, and Lizzie is a nice warm lady in the front, very terrifying and scary in the back.

people who only heard about the codfather would be terrified from the description, while people who have seen his image at first thought he's the easiest target to take out, since he looks very very pathetic and goofy.

He's a bit...pathetic, yes, but he is very observant and knows when to use it for his advantage, that's why the people who tried to mess with him would fall immediately to his traps and tricks, because they underestimate him severely.

also, the cod alliance mafia members are very protective of their boss, so people who met the codfather were very lucky, if they manage to get through the others first.

though yes the members of the mafia do dramatizes his role/appearance, in reality he's still a bit pathetic lmao.
