i wanted to get ahead on some work for the school year or even just like. write some fanfic tonight but i just watched a taylor swift music video and started crying and then opened up tumblr to see a pic of steve and robin that made me start WEEPING. like. unwell levels of emotion.

Sorry if this seems hastily written together, I haven't had the request in a while so I kind of jumped at the opportunity.

I've been getting a lot of different comments and responses to the bullying in Japan post. It would be a little difficult for me to respond to all of them, but I didn't want to just leave them unanswered because I think many of them express some important sentiments.

A lot of people wanted to add the discussion of punitive versus restorative justice to the fray. I just wanted to say about that I am very much in favor of restorative justice over punitive, though I know it's a more complicated matter than just that, but I didn't really feel it was relevant to the post I was making at the time. I don't think as many readers are at that point in the discussion yet, but I do think it's a good point. Most of all, I just wanted everyone to start thinking about reading stories with an open mind about culture and context and also for them to start recognizing their own biases.

What upsets me in this context is that some people have a formula in their heads of how a story should go as opposed to just how they think it might go. I dislike a lot of USA media, and yet I'm surrounded by it on all sides. In my social life, one of the easiest topics of conversation for meeting new people is movies and TV. It's not a great starting-point for me how I essentially have to resort to saying things like "I just don't like most movies," or "I haven't seen a movie in theaters in years," or "I don't watch American television," or "I don't like American comic books." And a lot of my feelings boil down to the American movie formulas, how the art and creativity are often stripped away, how America loves to paint itself as the land of free expression and yet most of the popular expression all conform to one line of thinking. I love it when I get to experience new perspectives on how stories should go and how one approaches writing them, but the more people react poorly to new stories, the less I'll get to have what I want.

So I'm promoting that now. I like Japanese stories. I like My Hero Academia. I don't agree with every Japanese philosophy or social more or whatever, but I find them fascinating all the same. And I think they provide a perspective that is really good for many western readers to encounter. I just hope more people can be open to it.

All right, fellow MCU fans

So, after seeing the Marvels today, it got me thinking. Now, you probably don't know who I am. But I do happen to be a writer. Not a very good one mind you (several people would say otherwise, but shush, give me my self-loathing) Phase 4 (and the current parts of 5) is not that great. So I want to rewrite the Multiverse Saga. Yes. The entire thing. Even though it's not finished.

Very long blocks of text below. It's really the only thing that keeps me organized. Please read it though if you are interested. It'll be split up into sections, for somewhat easy perusal.

Now, I know this is an ambitious project, and one not done. I am no stranger to things like this, see my own game/show I'm making. (This is the only time I'm going to mention it. But I am pretty proud of it) So, for my very small amount of sanity, I'm stopping it at The Marvels, and Loki season 2 (Oops, still not finished with it yet). And I wanted to ask people what they thought was lackluster, or mediocre. Not the Marvel I and many other people grew up on. I do understand that it was flawed before, but when I recently rewatched most of them, I found that my childhood love for them had blossomed into something new. I was 6 when the first Avengers came out. I learned how to shoot a bow because of Hawkeye in that movie. And I think it deserves better, especially after watching the Marvels.

Now, this means everything after Endgame. So from Black Widow to The Marvels in terms of the movies, and the Disney+ series from Wandavision to Loki Season 2. I have a feeling it's going to take me a second to get through the remaining 5 episodes of Loki S2. My family wants to watch it with me, and they're all decently busy... Anyways, that's 10 movies, and 9 series. Although I don't accept Secret Invasion. Like at all. Anyways.

I have yet to decide what I'm going to publish this on. Probably A03, just because that's easiest for me. And I can organize much easier. Do let me know what you think.

So, before I get into the problems I've identified, feel free to stop here, and reblog or ask me your problems with the aforementioned shows and movies. I'm talking writing or character problems, as we've seen in the series. I am a fan of the comics, but you can divert from that, or stick to them.

Oh, and if you say something like "Make it more queer", I am a raging bisexual enby. I will already be making it queer as fuck, and can be convinced to ship pretty much anyone, if I can get a good reasoning behind it. Minors should be shipped with only minors. That's one of my few rules, if you send anything to me. So yeah, I'm doing genderfluid Loki.

Thoughts on everything:

This is just here so that I don't get a ton of repeats. I'll go movies first, then the TV shows.

Black Widow (2021) - Honestly, this is too late of a movie. Natasha deserved this before Endgame or Infinity War came out. But release dates aside, Taskmaster needs more screentime, and a chance to show how menacing they are. Natasha also needs more time with her family, and the parents need to be fleshed out a bit more. Belova is far too smart to be tricked by the lady in the post-credit scene.

Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings (2021) - I don't have any major problems with this movie. The Great Protector, or the dragon, and the supernatural creature, I think he's called Dweller In Darkness, kinda felt a little blank, and the Dweller shouldn't have died, only been pushed back. And I don't like Katy that much. Trevor is much better comedic relief in my opinion.

Eternals (2021) - Oh boy, where do we start with this one? You know it's bad if I can't remember any of the main characters names besides Ikarus. And that's because I was laughing my ass off at him throwing himself into the sun. There was also the Celestial I think it was? Anyways that thing broke islands up, and then just became a massive statue, and like no one mentions it? I don't remember much else about this movie, even after having watched it like 3 times. Oh, and the Ebony Blade was shown off. I like that if they can do something fun with that.

Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) - Dr. Strange feels a little shoe-horned in. The whole sanctum being overtaken by snow was pretty clever, but Strange being a father figure to Peter is not super well established. Could be fixed with a couple of rewrites. Or Strange and Stark being together. Peter is a dumbass, and the reason for him starting the whole plot... is so dumb. I understand, teenagers can be stupid, hell, I go to public high school, but Peter's shown he's a lot smarter than this. But I do like the crossover (Dafoe as Green Goblin my beloved) and the fact that the other Spidermen get to say goodbye in one last movie. Anyways, Ned's wizard connections need to be elaborated on as well.

Doctor Strange: Multiverse Of Madness (2022) - Alright, getting my biggest problem out of the way first. Wanda's corruption arc should have been shown. It should have been developed through the movie, and Wanda should have been with Strange and America. She can still be evil, and die after she realizes her actions, but this basically destroys the point of Wandavision. She was willing to say goodbye. Wanda has been a favorite of mine for years, and I read her comics religiously as a child. We need to see the power of the Scarlet Witch. What it did without Wanda. Her "No More Mutants" line sent chills down my spine the first time I read it. Sam Raimi directed this movie. Strange and Wanda should have had more horrific shit. And that one Strange with 3 eyes should have been the one from What If. We need horror in this. America also needs to be more fleshed out. I do love her, but we get like one scene of her being traumatized of basically growing up nowhere. Her moms get to stay though. I'm just going to ignore the last post-credit scene, because... that's setting something up I'm not sure of.

Thor: Love & Thunder (2022) - First up, Gorr has a great setup. He needed more screentime though. We need to see more of his god killing. They should rightfully be shitting their pants over this man. Thor leaving to save Sif was a good move, but that joke ruined the tension. She should have died there, proof of the god killer. Jane Foster is perfectly fine, and her arc is a lovely send-off. I would have loved some more stuff about the kids, especially Heimdall's. I don't even remember his name. He should have been shown doing something in Jane's return to Asgard, something that showed off his parentage. The meeting of the gods is a great scene, but there should have been people who spoke up, and then promptly getting thrown out, or even getting killed. Even more of a reason for Thor and crew to convince him. I think everything else is pretty good. Also Valkyrie is perfect in this movie. Bi queen. And her Loki knives are lovely.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) - I actually think this one just needs a couple of little tweaks. I understand why they couldn't have T'Challa show up in the spirit world, and Killmonger was great, but I still think something between the siblings would be good. Fuck, I love the funeral scene. It was a lovely sendoff to both T'Challa, and Chadwick. Namor seems a little rash though. Might just be the comics leaking through on that matter but I do like the Mayan inspirations in the movie!

Antman: Quantumania (2023) - I'm not really sure on this movie. I don't like Janet in this movie. She feels too secretive. She could have told them plenty, even lied that Kang had gone home. He'd gotten out somehow. Kang didn't seem scared enough of the others, but that might just be me thinking of that. Oh, and MODOK sucked. He shouldn't be a joke. But Darren could have done something else, because he is in there.

Guardians of The Galaxy V.3 (2023) - Perfection in every way. I'm not changing anything unless it involves getting everything I'm incorporating in. And the Christmas Special is also great.

The Marvels (2023) - Spoilers! Kamala needed more screentime, she just generally felt disconnected from the plot besides her bangle. And I also wanted a more menacing villain. That's been the problem with them recently. They don't make me think that they could actually beat them. I like everything else though. Flerkins were great as usual. I love these stupid creatures so much. That one scene was beautiful.

Now to the shows! These are going to be so much shorter.

Wandavision (2021) - I think this is good. No notes.

Loki S1 (2021) - Good, besides the Sylvie/Loki romance. They are siblings. I'm not sure if there's anything else that I really had a problem with. It's been a moment. Which is a shame. I love Loki (Also bi confirmation! I love it!)

The Falcon & Winter Soldier (2021) - I also think this is good, besides maybe having some problems with the villain. Bromance all the way.

What If...? (2021) - Also pretty good. Little self-contained story. I like the zombies.

Hawkeye (2021) - I also think this one's pretty well written. Macaroni is constantly referenced in my house. Lucky is also a pretty boy.

Moonknight (2022) - Honestly, god tier. Anyways, no one mentioned the stars literally turning in Egypt. But maybe it was just the people thinking that they were drunk as shit and seeing something.

Ms. Marvel (2022) - Second favorite being Moonknight. I also don't remember anything glaringly wrong.

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law (2022) - Besides the tone of the show being inconsistent as shit, I think this show should have dove into some of the topics it brought up more. It just seemed a little surface level. Maybe a WWDITS style mockumentary would work better.

Secret Invasion (2023) - THIS ENTIRE SHOW SUCKS ASS. THIS WHOLE THING WAS DONE SO BADLY. I am not taking anything from this show

Loki S2 (2023) - Too distracted by another season 2 coming out, so I have yet to finish. I have heard it's good though. I've seen the first episode, and it's going pretty good so far.

Howdy, and thanks for the ask. It's late so I'm probably gonna ramble. I promise to try and address the question at some point lol.

So when I first started it took me months to write and try to perfect a single one shot. (One Good Turn/Maiden crack outtakes) (This was back in September of like 2021)

My next story after that (Pizza Au) it would take weeks to even a month between chapters.

I would get horrible anxiety (being a perfectionist is hell). Sometimes there would be days I would just not write. I couldn't handle it. I'd play wow, or just do anything else. Anything to NOT BE writing.

What didn't do was stop thinking of ideas. Even if I didn't write for the story I had a little notepad with ideas I would scribble on them. This didn't bother me because it was something that only I saw and it was quick notes. If they weren't perfect it didn't matter because, well I took 5 seconds to write them so who was gonna judge me on that?

My brain could process and handle that sort of thing.

The truth is writing, and telling stories has been one of those things I've always wanted to do, and over time I've built up a habit of writing, and making sure to take breaks on certain days, or if I'm just not in the mood. I would love to eventually write an actual fantasy book some day, but for now I write fan-fiction as practice.

The mindset I helped by realizing I wasn't really getting paid to write so if people didn't like it? Well I mean who cared? Yeah my screen name is out there, and yeah I get plenty of people who don't like it, or send me some 'interestingly' worded reviews.

As for what gets me into the headspace for goobers? The easiest thing is to think of some media you like, and are passionate about.

What book, game, tv show, movie, etc do you really like? Now since most of the story is already done for you. How can you insert two characters into it to make it your desired pairing.

This helps because you're already very passionate about it, and when you're passionate it makes it easier for words to flow onto the page.

For example, if you're doing a WR legend of Zelda Au, and you know everything about Zelda then it's easy for you to just get really into it, and before you know it you have a 10k first chapter, and you're wondering how it got there.

You're just like wow Weiss would be a great Midna, and Ruby a wonderful Link, and bam you're good to go. (Although you might change the ending a wee bit for more fluff but hey)

At first this might take some time to think on, but eventually if you do it enough you'll get the brainrot and every bit of media you consume you'll be like 'i can totally think of a X au for this.

It might also help to find a genre you find more easy to relate to, to start with.

If you like humor, then make a funny little one shot. If you like coffee shop au's? Well loads of people do.

If you're stuck at the end of a sentence? Delete the sentence you just wrote and try again.

If the word isn't coming to you, and you need a break? Take one. Sometimes I write a few sentences then watch a youtube video, then get back to writing.

Just to give my brain some time to think in the background.

I would also advise that once you do a few stories in a genre you're familiar with try a few in different ones.

This helps you not get pigeon holed and stuck in a rut down the line, and gets you to think about them differently and explore different facets of your characters.

Do some comedy, crack, and then do an angst, follow that up with video game au, and then romance, etc.

Some early habits you can do are just set aside a set amount of time to try and write a day. Maybe even 30 minutes.

If you can't think of a story think of what you do know and make it all nice and written out for future you.

Like 'oh coffee shop au' Ruby is the barrista summer is alive in this au, and she's in college etc. Do it for characters you think will be important to the story, and even a background character you want to make an appearance. You're not writing the story, not really, but you are doing work that can help give your characters life, and a background/voice when you do write it.

All told I was in the same boat as you being told 'just write' and I would clam up.

You might try just writing random details for your au or something similar.

You can get prompt ideas from other people if you can't think of anything. You can bounce an idea back and forth on discord with a friend! Heck read a few books to get potential ideas!

You can and will make mistakes. It's inevitable. A sneaky comma you forgot, a word in the wrong tense, but you know what I learned?

Doesn't matter. The fact that you're writing and creating far outweighs any of that.

You don't even have to post or show it to anyone. I have a stack of notebooks with tons of notes in them (google docs is pretty easy to use too if you don't like writing in a notebook).

As trite as it might seem, as many times as it has been said really the secret is just writing.

One thing I will say is 'comparison is the thief of joy'. Do not compare your starting works, or even any of your work to someone else.

If you compare your writing to someone who's been writing for a lot longer then I mean /shrug.

If you do post on ao3 or another site my advice is to not look at stats at all.

What does it matter if your fic gets only 50 hits and 3 comments? Those are 3 people who looked at your story and loved it enough to say so, and 50 people who were drawn in to read it in the first place.

That's a loooot of people. Just write for fun, and not to look at the stats.

This one is more on me, but once a story has been finished? Don't go back and rewrite it to fix or update all the errors. They make valuable time capsules of your skill progression.

If all your work looks like your current work then it seems like you're not improving. (In maidens I can see many errors, and while there's still errors in my latest story I can tell you there are less of them).

You will at random points get hit with 'oh wow I'm not improving at all. This is actually a false feeling brought on by you getting better and realizing all the errors that are there. It actually means you're doing much better than you thought.

So I guess to sum it up.

1-Try to establish a habit of at least attempting to write each day. I find myself craving to write most days but it was a buildup to get there.

2-Use media you're passionate about to start with to get you into the creation mindset, and just make small tweaks to it to make it easier at the start.

3-Don't worry about it being perfect, or your stats. Just write for you.

4-It's less talent and more hard repetitive work to get good at writing just like any other skill. You will have to put in a fair/large amount of time.

5-If you skip some days because you aren't feeling it then that's fine. Take the time you need but just make sure to get back to it.

Color Grading in Stranger Things

Soooo I wanted to make this post because I'm someone going into the field and I've been seeing some debate on the topic. Mostly around "production errors." I think the term "production error" is kind of misused in a lot of cases? For me things boil down to one of four things: 1. actual production errors, 2. intentional details, 3. coincidences, or 4. things that just happen and/or are normal in the production process.

The fourth one is the category I see most with the color grading "errors" in the show. I think there's an inclination to apply real world logic to film/tv a lot of the time, but you have to remember that that doesn't necessarily extend to things like color grading and lighting. Lighting and color grading are both things that can change slightly between shots in the same scene. And this isn't an error (most of the time.)

Making these subtle changes usually is done with the intention of making the viewer subconsciously feel something. You can get away with quite a bit because viewers will not notice these subtle changes on their first watch; there's just so much new information that your eyes are absorbing that the color or lighting set up being slightly different isn't usually something you'll immediately notice (unless maybe you have some expertise in the topic/work in the field.)

The reason for these changes can vary. Each lighting setup and color palette has a different feeling, emotion, symbolic meaning. I'd say a lot of the time they're based in color science but they can also have a more narrative based meaning (example: director deciding that in the film he makes that the color yellow = danger. They start to associate the color with every precarious scene. Subconsciously the viewer begins to become fearful whenever the color yellow is on screen.)

I think showing actual examples from the show would help kind of demonstrate what I'm talking about so let's get into it!

Exhibit A:

Image one: Around 10 minutes 30 seconds into the episode

Images two and three: Around 13 minutes into the episode

So I noticed that this shot became more blue in time when I was making my movie theatre blush analysis (see that here) But actually, rewatching the scene, the shot of Mike only looks slightly more blue than the previous shot of them. The shot with Will looks very noticeably more blue, though. These shots were obviously filmed on the same day, maybe even at the same time with multiple cameras rolling. They also have the same lighting set up (split lighting.)

So, is this a production error? No. If the intention was to make the shots of Mike and Will have the same color grading, you would literally have to be the most incompetent person alive to mess that up. Copying the same color grade from one shot to another is the easiest thing ever. You will not be hired as a colorist if you don't know how to do this.

Why make these shots slightly different, then? I'm not the guy who did this grading so I can't tell you with 100% certainty, but I have a couple ideas: The one I see the most is tying this to Will's visions in S2. The bottom two images are after Will has another vision. We see this blue color grading when Will is in the upside down and having visions. Blue also has a cold connotation, and we see Will get goosebumps, shiver and tremble in this scene.

Exhibit B:

Okay this one is a lot more subtle. Also this one has to deal more with lighting than color grading though I'm sure both play a part in this.

So in the scene where they bury the body, the light setup is extremely bright and high contrast. If you look at their shadows in particular you can see how dark they are. There's almost no fall of on the shadows in the first picture. I think the whole set of scenes has a yellow filter to imply a hot, arid environment, but it's more noticeable in the first and last image. The first two images also have a lighting set up where the main light is right in front of them, putting Will specifically in a Rembrandt lighting setup. This lighting is meant to kind of represent the sun beating down on you, it's hot. Will and Jonathan are also really sweating, so it's obvious that this is what the intention was with this lighting setup.

When Mike and Will sit down to have their heart to heart, the lighting very subtly changes. The main light is now a back light, though there's also a light above them as indicated by where the shadows lay. But the lighting is also a lot softer. The shadows have more fall of, which leads me to believe they either used a soft light or a reflector. Softer light can be an indication of a more romantic scene. When they're broken out of their moment, the lighting grows less soft and everything starts to get more yellow.

Exhibit C:

So I think this whole thing was confirmed to be recorded in one take, so I'm operating on the idea that they didn't change the lighting in this scene in between shots. But they possibly could have? The fill light on our right looks slightly dimmer than in the shot before.

But I mostly think this is a difference in color grading. Mike's face is darker and has more contrast. Once again, not a mistake but an intentional decision. This is the scene where he's trying to desperately get El to fight Vecna. I think the contrast was accentuated to add more drama to the scene. Mike's cries of "Fight!" grow more desperate, his voice is cracking, he's clearly scared. High contrast lighting is more dramatic, more cinematic, more high stakes.

A discussion on the more technical side of things:

So not every one of these things is explainable by them intentionally wanting to set the mood or having a narrative reason behind the slight changes. Color grading is one of the final parts of the production process, so the footage you have to work with is all you're gonna get. And mistakes do happen in some footage. Some scenes are shot on different days, sometimes a light breaks or is set too dim, etc, etc. The colorist is responsible for helping to match these shots together in a way where the error isn't noticeable and doesn't break the immersion of the viewer. But you have to work with what you have!

Also, I did mention copying the grade from one shot to the next, but please don't think that that is like "oh i just have to grade one shot, copy it to all of the other ones and then I can be done!" because that's not really correct either. You'll still want to tweak the grade slightly for each new shot. Each shot probably has different lighting, a different set of people or objects, and other things you have to consider.

But I hope this was a helpful break down of the process! Honestly if I went back and rewatched more scenes I could probably find more examples of this, I only really have Mike and Will scenes because I've analyzed those the most, lol. Just know that not everything is as linear as in real life, film/tv is an artistic medium so it's gonna break some rules occasionally.

Be Panda, Do Soft-Style

You know this guy?

I love this guy. Eh catches cannon balls and doesn't afraid of anything (it's an older meme, sir, but it checks out), except PTSD and low self-esteem. That's my Panda.

OK. So let's talk about negative emotions, pain, and crippling anxiety.

No! Ha-ha, well, okay, maybe a little.

Some of us like movies and TV because their sameness is comforting, they teach us valuable lessons, and they don't judge us if we have to go back and watch something again because we didn't understand - or just 'cos we like seeing it again, and we're having a parasocial relationship with everyone in it. And some of us need movies and TV for those same reasons. Maybe a little more, maybe a little less, but real-life people aren't going to be patient enough to help us learn the hard stuff, and we know that, so we stick with movies and TV. Society tends to label people like that, people like me, as autistic. Not always, but it's getting better at catching and labelling the behaviour.

So when I need help with a big concept, something super hard, I go running to movies, TV, and stories or metaphors of all kinds. That's the easiest way for me to learn and understand, but most of us like learning that way. At least a little.

So, let's talk about my Panda pal's kung fu.

Po fights dragon style, which is a soft style. Soft styles are more about seeing where the energy is coming from and redirecting it. Tigress, who is hard-style to her core, will punch a brick wall until she busts right through it. Po will just go, "Hey, there's a door! You guys? Door over here!" walk through, and maybe poke his head back out and ask, "You need anything while I'm in here? Okay. Cool." Soft style requires you to slow down enough, and be smart and patient enough, to find that door.

All kung fu is valid!

But not all kung fu is appropriate for every situation. You punch through a cannonball, it explodes, and you get very badly injured or die.

I see a lot of stuff on Tumblr about people trying to punch through their pain, anxiety, and negative feelings. I don't like you, anxiety. I don't like you, depression. I don't need you. You're not real. You're a little bitch. I will defeat you. I will get better and better at defeating you, and you will go away FOREVER! DIEEEE!

It's my first instinct too! I don't want these things, they are hurting me, I want them to go away. If I were strong, I could just break through. Normal people break through these things like they're nothing (*bing!* I've just added another layer of wall, "I'm broken, I'm weak," to what I've already been failing to punch through). If I just keep pushing (adding more layers to the wall every time my punch fails to defeat it) I will get stronger, and better, and I will feel nothing!

"Is that what you want?" Oogway might say to Shifu, his student who insists on learning (and teaching) everything the hard way. "To feel nothing? That sounds rather sad to me."

"No! I want to get rid of these bad feelings so I can make good ones! I want to feel happy, and loved, and secure! I want self-confidence!"

"My poor friend is still holding a peach," the turtle might say, "and trying to force it to become an apple. And then, when he has done the impossible, he thinks he may deserve self-confidence."

"I can throw this peach at the wall, and destroy it, and go find an apple!"

The turtle laughs. "Then you will have made quite a mess! And when you return with your apple, you may find the peach pit you have abandoned has grown into another tree, with many more peaches for you to throw. But perhaps there is a better way." And he would pick a peach, and eat it, like turtles do, slowly, but without mercy, until it's all gone, even the pit, and walk away. "It was not bad, a little bitter. I think next, I will eat a dumpling."

My boi can catch a cannonball because he doesn't go after it hard-style. He takes it head-on, holds it in his furry little arms, and redirects it. He's not super great at getting it where he wants it to go, not at first, and it does set him on fire, but he's still alive!

"You know, this doesn't feel great, but dealing with your trauma and post-traumatic stress is a process! My fist hungers... for self-care! Ow!"

He does, eventually, get better at it (quickly, because we only have about 90 minutes to tell this story) and not every hit lands, but when one does, he holds it for a second, aims, and lets go. He does not punch, he does not try to stop that sucker cold, he holds it, deals with it, and lets it go. And once he figures out what he's doing, it doesn't hurt so bad anymore. He has fun. Po's not the Fun Police, if he's having fun, he accepts that too. Yep, okay, this could kill me, but it looks so cool! Let's have fun while it lasts! Ladies, gentlemen and others, I present: soft style.

Even if your brain behaves itself perfectly, in your life, you are gonna hit walls. Some of 'em won't slow you down. But when one does, the first thing you gotta do is acknowledge the fact that there is a WALL here. I know you don't want the wall, but there it is. It doesn't matter whether it belongs there, you don't have to justify it. Insulting it and interrogating it won't make it not be there. That irritating AOL voice yelling "You've got wall!" will not go away until you acknowledge receipt of your wall. Okay. I've got wall. I don't have to like it, but here it is. It is here.

(This is what they mean when they say "your emotions are valid," they're just insecure and trying to sound professional.)

Now what?

(OK, but assuming we don't have a flame-proof cartoon butt and a destiny.)

First: Don't punch the wall. Ah-ah-ah! Back up! How hard could it be to not do something? you think. This'll be easy! It's incredibly hard to comply with a negative. Don't read this. Yeah. Now don't think of a solid white zebra. ... ... ... Yeah. Ka-POW! Ouch! Why does that hurt? I'd better punch it again and figure it out!

Stop. Redirect. Since we're using a wall metaphor here, you gotta go sideways. (Indeed, given enough time, all things shall become crab.) If there were a door right in front of your face, you'd see it. Forwards is not an option right now. Be a good little crustacean and pick a new direction. This is also how one extricates one's self from a riptide - people die because it's counterintuitive. You want to be back on the beach, why would you swim towards more ocean? Attacking the obstacle at its strongest point will not get you where you wanna go any faster than looking for a way around. In fact, sometimes, it won't get you there at all.

Are you still, intermittently, thinking of a solid white zebra? Like, what would that even look like? How would I know it's not just a white horse? Well, if you weren't before you are now. OK. So every time that zebra comes back, think of a solid white peacock with a tragic backstory.

(I know he's not solid white, I'm just being silly. Forgive me.)

If you take a step towards the sexy (but still extremely evil and genocidal) peacock, you are moving sideways. If you keep it up, you'll get a little distance, a little perspective, and when you have enough room to stop banging your head like a stubborn moth, maybe you'll be able to see a door in the wall... Or some convenient fireworks, who knows? Maybe you do have a destiny. Then, you'll be able to go through.

...Though it may be a squeeze, and you might not end up exactly where you thought you wanted to go.

(Oh, no, stairs!)

Or maybe you'll end up someplace even better and more surprising.

"You just wanted to see the tournament? Well, now you're the Dragon Warrior. Have fun with that."

But, again, this is a skill that takes practice. Every time you manage to stop or head sideways instead of banging into the wall is a victory. Eventually, you will get better at it.

I mean, you know, I've heard.

(This is me. I wanna be Po, but it's just my nature to fight hard and make everything harder. Maybe one of these days I'll accept that, and stop fighting my nature and making it harder, but I wouldn't bet on it.)

Doctors and mental health professionals will tell you, most pain is anxiety. Part of that is the simple physical fact that when you tense up and struggle, it hurts more. Some things can be fought hard style, and some things can't. Slow down, take your time, feel the flow - and then you can decide whether to go with it, go against it, or go around.

For example, I was having serious anxiety because, right when I got up, a lot of things were going wrong, and needed attention, and I couldn't fix them all, or even one. So I let someone I trust give me a little help, and I wrote a little mental health article with my friend, the Panda. Maybe I'll find a way to go forward in a little while, or maybe not yet, but I already feel a little better.

So I don’t really care that much about song meaning,but I read some pjms and armys theories and I don’t really understand why dome of them are so against LC being about sex. Getting this ask today reminded me of this other long ask I got weeks ago and never got around to reply. Finally I went and searched for my face posts 😅

Sex and Alcohol are interchangeable coping mechanisms. both jacob + anna cope with pain of separation by carelessly drinking and having sex. in fact jacob's sex scenes also hold interesting symbolisms regarding intimacy. let's move to anna: she's toxic in wanting to get back with jacob despite being apart for so long. this is reminiscent to how the girl pulls jimin into the dream club and meets him midway the mv. as jm said in the spotify intvw, he's showing how "one loses themselves after a loved one in a Dream". what does it imply? he's yearning for something meaningful to feel complete yet it's unattainable, nor can he stay healthy post loss in Face-Off hence confrontation in the bathroom mirror cuz he's the problem. (the next track 'Alone' is where he accepts his mistake of not properly dealing w/ his complex emotions beforehand.)

the anima theory (which armys/jikookers poorly mutated into a gender crisis) is Jung's belief that man projects his inner desires on his wife/lover. this phenomenon is criticism by psychologists on emotionally stunted man-childs!!? so not only do theories which refuse to address the clear romantic/sexual imagery just plain disingenious but disrespecting jm as well.

he is a hopeless romantic but he referenced a movie about withering relationships here, and how sex is not necessarily love (jacob realizing his sexual compatibility with sam cannot help him move on from anna with whom his attachment is sincere)

i'm not peaking into jm's personal life but im not denying the song's adult concept either. he didnt need to dance such sensual choreo nor refrain teens during the fancall from watching the dance (the backup dancers were having full blown sex) but he did! for he had a story to tell! remember when jm, during encore, said he'll do a modest version of a dance step to pacify jealous fans, it wasnt the group hug intro but the mirror step, which he did with a male dancer instead on stage. jm and karmys had a mutual understanding of what that move signified, and why 1 female dancer was specifically chosen for it in the first place. jm was rightfully teasing them about the whole dance and not just because girls were in it.

There's nothing wrong with thinking it's about sex, but there's also nothing wrong with thinking it's not about sex. I mean, Jimin never explicitly said "it's not about sex" or otherwise, but at some point he did use a bed as prop with people all around (over) him. There's also the fact that men embrace him in the original choreo but he didn't think that was appropriate for music shows which would be aired on Korean tv. He also said he wanted the song to have an "ambiguous" feel and honestly, he got that concept very well executed. The song feels like a lot of things at once.

I agree with many points of the second ask, and I think you'd find I said similar stuff when I talked about my own interpretation.

The only thing I disagree with is the last part because it feels -to me- kinda deranged to see something sexual in the mirroring part because there's nothing like that going on. I think Jimin was just joking with the fans, and it was all banter, and that's the easiest part of the choreo to rearrange for fun. I really don't see anything sexual in that part of the choreo.

With the release of Prime remastered, I remembered an interesting experience I had while playing the Wii version years ago. I often think about this so i thought hey, tumblr is a place for shouting thoughts to the void, so i might as well share this little story time.

This is about the first time I got a game over screen while playing. I know everyone knows the prime game over is quite intense, and i hear people saying it scared them a lot as a child, this isn't just about that. I remember this moment because of everything that led up to that game over. So umm TW if you don't want to hear about samus dying horribly, I guess.

So, i'm playing a copy of the Wii trilogy edition i borrowed from a friend, on my kitchen tv. I had been playing for a bit that day and I knew I had to leave for class soon. I had just passed a very stressful enemy heavy section, and my HP had kind of suffered.

I arrived at a huge puzzle room, and I realized this could probably take a while, and i didnt have that kind of time, nor enough health.

I didn't want to lose my progress, so I made a Tactical Gaming Decision. I didn't know how far away the next save station would be, but I knew where the last one was. I would have to go through the enemies I had passed again, as they would have respawned, but I could just run past them, and any collateral damage would be healed at the save station. Yeah, seems doable.

So I turned around, and I started running back the way I came. It was a thin, winding one way corridor, quite claustrophobic. There were a lot of enemies, and they were all shooting at me and chipping away at my health. But I wasn't worried because, again, I would be healed soon.

And then I reached the end of the corridor, where the door to safety should be.

Only I couldn't see it.

I kept looking and checking my map, because god knows I tend to not see things that are right in front of me, and I get disoriented easily. But the map said the door should be there, except there was certainly no door. Just a wall.

I always thought that maybe there was no door because you're not supposed to go back at that point, and the game doesn't expect you to. In retrospect, it's most likely I just missed the door somehow. But I could not see it at all.

And then I realized that all of the enemies I had run past had followed me. All of them. I remember them approaching slowly, like in a horror movie. And they were shooting.

The corridor was small and it was filled to the brim with space pirates, blocking any way out, and my back was to a wall that should have been a door. My health was quite low by my standards at that point. I was not very good at combat, so even if I tried my best, there was no way I could clear a way forward through the wall of enemies. And I really, really had to leave for class now.

So I made another Tactical Gaming Decision, and decided the easiest, and fastest thing to do now was to give up.

But I was curious, at that point. I had not died yet in this game. Now I had put myself in this position, where I was surely going to get a game over, and I kinda wanted to see what it looked like.

And instead of just turning off the console, I decided to let Samus die.

So I sighed, put down the Wii remote, sat back on my tiny, uncomfortable kitchen chair, and just watched the screen as a dozen space pirates shot Samus, and slowly drained her energy tanks.

As her energy got lower, I felt kind of bad. I mean, it's only a video game, but this is just sad. She doesn't even get to fight back. If Samus could choose to, would she? She doesn't have a chance, even if she's better at fighting than me. She's completely surrounded and cornered. Would she give up? Would she just let the space pirates shoot her to death, in this tiny, asphyxiating corridor on a dying planet? Probably not. She would probably fight until she couldn't anymore.

But I, as the player, just didn't want to fight. So I watched in morbid fascination as she went down to her last energy tank, and an urgent beeping started, red flashing danger lights of "energy low" filled the screen.

For those who may not know, Prime's game over starts with Samus letting out a terrible scream, as her visor turns off. Then you see her head, visor cracked, her life support flatlines with a long beep, and her head drops to one side.

So I sit there, mouth agape, positively disturbed by that whole thing. That was horrible.

As I turned off the console and I left for class, I kept thinking about it. That was kind of a very interesting scene that happened there. That could be in a book. Or a movie. I kept thinking about what happened from samus' point of view: deciding it was too dangerous to keep going, and that it would be safer to return and heal and then try again. And then finding her way out closed, realizing there's no way she can make it... and giving up. That's terrifying.

I still think about it sometimes. Something intense or interesting that happened not because it was scripted, but because the player did something different. I wondered if other people have had similar experiences. At the time it was so fascinating to me, I really wanted to know more stories like this.

So. Yeah. If you were bored enough to read all the way here, thanks! And if you have any similar stories or experiences, from any game, please please share them! I'm still extremely curious. It doesn't have to be a horrible death scene, either.

I'm really enjoying Prime remastered. I haven't yet reached the bit where this happened all those years ago, but i'm waiting for it to finally see if i was crazy, or the door really disappeared. I have to know... even if it might kill samus again. But this time I will fight for her life.

Logan and Patton were no where to be found. Virgil went from room to room knocking and got no response. He had seemed to forget a few methods to ground the anxiety that was brimming in his body, like steam pipes about to burst he was trying to find someone to help calm him down.

Logans room was the easiest choice. Virgil took no more than a few knocks and no response before he quickly gave that up and moved to the next door, surely if Logan was there he would have opened on the first knock.

Patton, was his second go to. That father figure could name numerous things to get his mind away from the anxieties currently eating away at his mind, almost like some kind of- well anesthesia. He could help numb the thoughts and stream of consciousness by bringing in laughter. He knocked on the door- after a few brief moments and his anxiety spiking he tried again.

Again no response. Of everywhere these two could be they're not here at all? No wonder he was feeling the anxiety as intensely as he was. No logic, and no parental figure that could find some ground to calm him- its almost like a bull was running ramped after escaping the bullpen. He slowly made his way down stairs, the sound of the TV could be clearly heard- yet there was no one down there. It seemed like Lilo & Stitch was on and it was near the beginning, and yet there was an empty living room. Turning to enter the kitchen Virgil hit straight on into a hard surface, the thing falling after meeting his head and clanking to the ground.

Someone was here- he scrambled to stand up ready to take whatever action necessary- definitely not scream- and saw princey... now covered in popcorn, the bowl at his foot that he was holding and a tv remote in his hand. "AH Virge- my toe- Whats going on; you're never not on guard?" Roman said while sucking in air through his teeth as he went through the pain from the bowl. Virgil stood up a bit straighter-

"I couldnt- it was empty, I didn't think anyone was here..." Virgil took a moment to look at the mess he caused and sighed bending down to pick up the mess, "truthfully Ro?" Virgil said.

"Tuthfully?" Roman asked dusting off the popcorn from his shoulders.

"I- I was... am freaking out- I tried to find Logan or Pat-" Virgil was stopped in his sentence as Roman moved his hand towards the couch gesturing to sit down, after a moment with no response he lightly tugged on Virgils hoodie bringing him to the couch.

"You don't have to explain; unless it helps to. But if you'd rather we can watch Lilo & Stitch- It just started."

Virgil took a moment to himself, he could see the popcorn on Roman falling off which had him chuckle, Roman still had a hold of his hoodie, the TV was paused with Lilo holding a sandwich, the couch had two blankets laid across it and a small figit toy seemed to appear out of nowhere on the table. "Huh yeah that sounds nice actually."

Virgil rubbed his hands on his jeans, the fabric tough and scratchy. He noticed his hair was less in front of his eyes so he shuffled his hair, the softness felt nice and he liked the safety it brought. Sitting with Roman on the couch he reached for one of the blankets, its softness for exceeding his hair. Getting comfortable he felt the couch, its odd texture feeling at home since its the place he would often find solace at outside his room.

Sitting on the couch Virgil could here the static of the speakers before Roman began the movie, the ice machine going off again and the tap of Roman's foot. "Did you- want popcorn for the movie?" Roman wondered as he started to hum to the song that started.

Virgil shook his head, "I'll be ok." Virgil could smell the popcorn coming from Roman, and sure it smelt good but he felt less like eating and was feeling far more sleepy. It looked like the place had been cleaned while he was in his room, everything smelled more like soap then he remembered. Perhaps that's something Patton did before he went, well wherever he went.

Letting out a small content sigh Virigl could taste the coffee he had earlier. He was far more calm then he thought he'd be. He of course was not going to complain however, it was a simple comfort-

His eyelids started growing heavier, perhaps there was something weighing more on him then he had realized.. and yet right now that was unimportant.

When Logan and Patton returned from their brief venture of errands they came home to the two passed out. Slight snores emanated from them both- yet one seemed far more exhausted then the other. Patton just hummed to himself; as sleep too seemed to be sending out their siren call as the echo of Lilo & Stitch continued into the dully lit room of the house.
