A few people expressed an interest in a continuation of this fic, and I'm almost certain this isn't what anyone had in mind, but considering I hadn't been planning on writing a part two at all, I guess this is what we get?? So here, have an Eddie Perspective
Happy Valentine's Day ❤️
-
The thing about being friends with Steve Harrington is that, even though he isn’t exactly popular anymore, he’s still popular.
He’s still handsome and he’s still hot and he’s still got rich parents and, in spite of Hargrove’s many attempts to knock him down to the bottom of the social ladder, there are definitely still people who want his attention.
In the time it takes Eddie to spot him from the end of the hallway and make it through the crowds to his locker, a girl has come between them.
Literally – Lindsey Chase is standing in front of Steve, leaning against his open locker door and twirling her hair around her finger, clearly shooting her shot. Eddie can respect it.
He doesn’t like it, but he can appreciate the guts it takes.
Of course, it’s made a little easier by the built-in excuse that is the upcoming hearts-and-candy greeting card nightmare of a holiday that is Valentine’s Day. This is the third time this week a girl has approached Steve with a little paper valentine and hearts in her eyes.
Notably, it is only Wednesday.
Eddie hangs back a bit, watching as Lindsey flirts and Steve smiles and is perfectly kind but doesn’t flirt back. Whatever question she asks him gets lost in the din of the hallway, but he answers by shaking his head and offering a rueful little smile, and her shoulders sag a little before she meanders off with a sigh. Eddie can see her friends on the sidelines now, offering her open arms of comfort and glaring daggers at Steve in solidarity.
Ignoring them, Eddie ambles up and drapes himself against Steve’s locker door, head tossed back and eyelashes fluttering wildly. “Oh, Steve,” he simpers, high and breathy, “aren’t you going to whisk me away for a whirlwind Valentine’s romance?”
“I’d love to, but I’m pretty sure I have a stats test tomorrow,” Steve drawls, sending a sidelong smirk at Eddie.
“Ugh. Romance is dead,” Eddie declares, though he’s smiling back; this is one of the things he really hadn’t expected when he’d extended an offer of friendship to Steve those few weeks ago – the easy banter between them, how Steve is actually funny, how Eddie really loves trying to make him smile. Eddie peels himself away from the door of Steve’s locker and leans into his space instead, draping an arm over his shoulders that Steve doesn’t bother to shrug off. “So, what did the lovely Ms. Chase have to offer you? Her best goat?”

BNHA 429: It's not really a win when the only comfort is that Izuku/Ochako didn't became canon during a breakdown.
Honestly I think this is the most confused I've been with this story, so this might be the most openly critical I've been. (I've rewritten this five times already, so if it looks all over the place, I apologize).
"Joki Joki" being Tenko was debunked, which. You know what. Fair. Creating a character that looks like him only for be someone else with a tragic backstory five chapters before the finale? That's kinda cruel.
Harsh backstory for a small-role guy, by the way. A mutant Quirk (that we'll probably know only from supplemental material, if at all) his family didn't have, mouth sewn shut, locked in a basement for years, family leaves him and (probably) a Decay Wave was his only escape? And they say the world of BNHA isn't a harsh one /hj
I'm glad they didn't pull a Teen Wolf (iykyk). Ochako thinks Himiko is dead, Izuku's a shoulder to cry on. For... *counting* 4 pages of holding it in, 2 of actually talking about it, all of the 8 being about Izuku being nice but hypocritical (emotional suppression my dear beloathed Ch. 430 I fear you-).
Izuku says she's "his hero"- it's true, he thinks all his friends are his heroes. But we're shown 2/4 times (Blackwhip and the mob, but not Tenko cornering him in the mall, or their first meeting?) which made me realize he's the only named character/hero she "saved". The "who saves the heroes" thing? Not like she helped other heroes, that plot went to- oh.
Also, the whole "putting others before yourself", the only example listed that comes close to this is her giving some of her Entrance Exam points to him. The others are just her being nice to him, repressing her feelings, Blackwhip was the only other moment that kinda counted. The only "other person" she put before herself? Himiko.
I'll believe Himiko's dead when I see it; blood transfusions don't kill the donator. They take a minimum of 4hrs max. They sent Spinner and Touya to a hospital, but not Himiko, who was unconsicous, winging a transfusion out? Yeah, that's bullshit, "hope for a sequel" is becoming more and more of a plea.
I wish I could say I liked the breakdown, but all I think is "Ochako's a character development tool, with redundant, pointless arcs, and all she got is doomed yuri, trauma and reassuring words from a LI".
I didn't see Izuku crying at first; removing "Joki Joki's" 2 pages, the "talk" took 8/15 pages, I kept wondering when did he ever relied on "her strength", it's not like he trusted her enough to talk about his feelings, secrets or anything.
Class A interrupting was funny, I'm with Katsuki: Does Izuku still have embers (he does). I'm sorry to Ochako, I just didn't care anymore. I knew he didn't tell anyone else, lol (<- I'm shaking him into opening up-). But if he wasn't willing to open up about that I wonder what else doesn't Class A know. Does Inko know her son's dreams are over again or…?
Uh. One For All, crystalization of power from everyone's hopes, LFtR vestige scene, remaining embers looking a bit stronger, "Control Your Heart" is still a thing, "holding someone's hand makes me feel at peace", we have that talk with Katsuki, rule of narrative means if he opens up there's a chance this story can end on a hopeful note, Izuku fans here's how we can still win- (I'm inhaling hopium, I know)
I'm confused Hawks isn't getting ditching the Hero Billboards, just expanding it for "ordinary people". Isn't that continuing part of the problem? Part of why Dabi was created, why many heroes don't care about being a hero? I get it's to inspire others to be everyday heroes, but this if backfires in-universe...
Aoyama's farewell party with Eri singing was as sidelined as the 3Baka (… actually no, 3Baka is still more sidelined sob) and it hurts, but hey. Monoma got a statue before Katsuki, I just know if he isn't traumatized about his corpse he will brag. (I'm trying to find positives in this chapter)
The last pages. I know it's symbolic. Society extending a hand, Izuku "inspired" them to move. It's what Izuku was talking about in Ch. 1, "saving people is the coolest thing a hero can do". It's even from his poem inspiration "Called useless by all/Neither praised/Nor a bother/Such is the person/I wish to be".
But it doesn't come just from Izuku fighting giving up OFA, but from him still failing Tenko, who was doomed from the start, the LoV never knew who he was before "Tomura" (so. Spinner how's the book working out-). And no one else wants to, look at Ch. 427.
If it was still an ambiguous "AFO searched for Tenko", fine Ig, but since Ch. 419, it's half "No one helped Tenko except AFO" and half "Tenko never had a chance to live". I'm not saying them hating Tenko isn't justified. Look at what they have to rebuild. But ditching the "Tenko's whole life was planned" part, they still don't know the LoV came to be because they thought a child looked scary. Jeez, no one knows they were victims of ostracism, abuse, manipulation. Why they turned out the way they did.
And it ends on Izuku and Ochako smiling with the "future where heroes can relax" line. It's adorable, but they're still dealing with the guilt of Tenko and Himiko being gone. But I guess it's fine because they're smiling now? Because people are now doing something? So the reward from almost dying is: Bystander syndrome is chipping away?
*sigh* I guess the TL;DR for my opinions are:
Joki Joki isn't Tenko but damn if he isn't a woobie,
If I don't see the corpse Himiko isn't dead, I refuse,
Somehow Ochako's breakdown was more about Izuku, and we still didn't get introspection, just because it's comforting words doesn't mean they don't feel hollow,
It sounds like I hate her: I don't hate Ochako, I just hate the way she's written in "Tell, Don't Show" for Izuku, even my opinions about the breakdown are more about "dude what are you talking about" rather than it being about her and her alone, so I can't take her as seriously,
I think I just became Katsuki ATP: yeah yeah she's crying but what about Izuku and OFA- oh it's mostly fine.
The fun bits were relegated to two pages and small panels but I like to think Monoma goes to Katsuki's room to brag about the statue, Eri deserved to have a full page to sing
Hawks, I fail to see the point of switching Hero Billboards to "Everyday Ladybug" Billboards,
Bystander Syndrome is one thing, how are they gonna prevent another instance of the LoV if they don't know it was discrimination that started it all or that Tenko was a walking Greek Tragedy?
Izuku and Ochako's smiles give "Aw, it's adorable. Oh it's traumatized" vibes.
Yeah no, I'm not buying it. If Edgeshot can still live, why can't Himiko or Tenko? Why does Izuku still have embers, if we have one chapter left? What is the reasoning for "twisting fate", "saving and winning", "perfect victory with zero casualties", "I wanna save that little boy" if it ends on standard shonen ending?
Hell, OFA had dead people communicating with our protagonist and antagonist, and is connected to the deuteragonist, and you're telling me it doesn't mean something good can happen to Tenko?
... God now I just hope the next one isn't a timeskip, just Izuku and Katsuki holding hands, talking and being honest to each other (especially Izuku because oh boi I have seen some Writing Critics and I can't say I disagree) (maybe we'll confirmation on what actually happened to Himiko and Tenko, what about OFA, but that only depends on the page count of the next one).
Once again, sorry if it's all over the place, this chapter just. It wasn't great, in my (overthinking) opinion. I'm still unconvinced Himiko and Tenko are dead dead, until the last page of BNHA, we now have BKDK talking left, so let's see what the next one will bring. And I'm not rewritting all of this, I'm tired XD
So, yeah, that's my thoughts! Thank you for reading!

One detail I love that I think gets bypassed a lot is the symbolism of the carnivorous plants with Chishiya because so often plants get overlooked in symbolism. But it's not as simple as what it might seem like at first glance. There are FIVE categories of carnivorous plants. Pitfall, flypaper, snap traps, suction traps, and lobster-pot traps. But we don't see all of them or just one of them, but two of them. The choice of using pitfall and snap trap plants is VERY intentional and very well chosen for Chishiya. I'll discuss why in detail in a bit later. First, the basics.
Carnivorous plants evolved because of a LACK of nutrients in their environments that is crucial to growth. The vast majority of the species grow in very poor soil that has very little nutrients for plants. Hence the need to evolve another way to obtain crucial nutrients from other resources such as insects, small mammals, amphibians, and the likes. On the other hand, this lack of competition means they are virtually UNCHALLENGED by other plants because other plants cannot survive. While they do photosynthesize to a degree, it is at a SIGNIFICANTLY lower and weaker ability than most other plants. So they evolve, they thrive, and they claim soil others perish in.
It's rather comparable to Chishiya's childhood and history. His childhood was one lacking love, i.e. lacking nutrients crucial to development. His parents marriage was more business than love, and Chishiya explicitly remarks that he never even had a conversation with his father. His childhood was as barren as the soil that carnivorous plants grow in. There was no happy family, no loving home. He was left to his own devices. So he turned to academics. He excelled and thrived, sharpened his mind and observational skills. Most carnivorous plants evolved from independent from main branches of plants ; Chishiya grew up separately from his peers and typical human nature in general with his lack of care towards human life. Bacteria helps to break down corpses in healthier soil to help support plants, but this bacteria is absent in the sandy and/or acidic soil most carnivorous plants have. They don't have a natural support system ; neither does Chishiya.
Rather than any of this breaking Chishiya like it would many others, it simply taught him to thrive on his own. He can't miss what he doesn't know ; doesn't want for healthier soil when that's never been known. He survives just fine as it. Both Chishiya and carnivorous plants are signature in their INDEPENDENCE and SELF-RELIANCE. They're not lonely ; they simply survive in their own environment. Even when he grows to an adult, he remains apart and separate from the rest of the vast majority of other people.
THERE'S ALSO SOMETHING MORE OBVIOUS. Chishiya and carnivorous plants both take advantage of external organisms. Obviously Chishiya's not eating anyone like the plants do, but he does MANIPULATE and USE people very intentionally. He uses them for schemes, for observation to see what to do or what not to do, he twists and uses their kindness because he can't trust it. What HE lacks he finds in others and uses it to further himself. Just like the plants need the nutrients in the living organisms.
But Brittney, didn't you say something about the type being important? Now we're getting into the fun part of the analysis. This is primarily because the types focus on Chishiya's APPROACHES to different people.
First, the PITFALL CARNIVOROUS PLANTS. The way these plants work is by luring its prey in. They don't have to move or do anything terribly drastic to lure prey in. This is also the primary way that CHISHIYA tends to operate as well. You might be a bit surprised to find humans also frequently mistake pitfall plants as flowers due to their leaves and colors. It's about DECEPTION, by appearing like something they're not. Chishiya APPEARS helpful ; offering the taser, seeming like he's helping Arisu and Usagi. He's not ; he removed himself from the danger ; he used Arisu as bait and distraction. Chishiya LOOKS physically harmless compared to some others ; and it's too late when you realize he's not. Just like its too late for the victims of the pitfall plants - if the prey for the plants realize the water and digestive fluids are NOT nectar, its already too late. Flying insects have their wings wet and the sides of the plant are too slippery to climb. Even if they manage to fly, there's downwards facing hairs that TRAP the prey inside and wear it out long before it can escape. Chishiya, who makes a taser, Chishiya who makes a homemade flamethrower, Chishiya who makes bombs. Chishiya who makes plans for his OWN benefit and not others unless you happen to be lucky enough to be one of the few he seems to enjoy. Chishiya knows how to get people to come to HIM.
These plants have also been shown to secrete specific kinds of scents or substances to lure in specific categories of prey and different substances at different times depending on what they want - and Chishiya tends to target similar types of people. Arisu and Ippei were both the kind of people to look towards others and the inherent goodness in people, or at least trying to HELP others even at risk to themselves. It's something that Chishiya could easily use to his own benefit. Arisu learned too late that he'd been a sacrificial pawn for Chishiya's plan and it was too late when he did since the militants immediately acted on this perceived betrayal. Chishiya VERY RARELY has to go out of his way to take action when he can have people come to him and then have things as he wants them to play out.
NEXT are the more famous SNAP TRAPS, aka the Venus fly traps. These are a great symbolism for the times when Chishiya is driven or chooses to be a MAIN part of the action ; they're a manifestation of his more violent side. It's rare to appear ; he primarily operates via manipulation and distance. But we've seen his action. Unlike pitfall, flypaper, suction, or lobster-pot traps, snap traps DO move as their name implies. They snap shut with a violent and dangerous force to make sure prey doesn't escape. While Chishiya isn't inclined to this, his methods are rather vicious and quick-acting when he chooses that path. INTERESTINGLY, scientists still don't entirely understand how this works despite there being several theories and observations. It's a FUN nod to the fact that no one seems to understand Chishiya entirely and his motives or limits always remain hidden.
A snap trap won't trigger unless TWO consecutive hairs are triggered. In a way, this limiter is rather IN LINE with Chishiya himself. The Jack of Hearts game and the rooftop confrontation with Niragi are both PRIME examples of this. Niragi for example ; their tension is rather obvious right away from the threats and mock surrender. But Chishiya doesn't actually do anything about it ; he WASN'T going to do anything about it until the 10 of hearts game came to be. First hair - their obvious tension and Chishiya's loathing at seeing himself in Niragi. Second hair - a death game that is an active threat to Chishiya. Especially given the plan to just kill everyone and there no longer being a truce between the Hatter's group and the Militants. He's no longer safe. Thus Chishiya is driven to a quick and violent action just like the snapping of the fly trap. He sets Niragi on fire on top of the roof when he doesn't expect it. ( After all, he assumed Chishiya might have had a knife when he ran towards him. ) And then there's the Jack of Hearts game. Which is actually a little more interesting in the subtle complexity. Chishiya ALREADY had an idea of who it was fairly early on. He makes it clear - and it's obvious in his body language and subtle background gestures if you pay attention to him. But he doesn't point it out. He doesn't care for the others lives, but he also wants to ensure there's MORE. So he waits ; waits to discover more proof , waits for Banda and Yaba before he emerges from pretending to be dead and confronts Enji with them. And of course, leaves him to the gruesome fate at the other two's hands. Chishiya doesn't typically dive into action unless a few things add up. Or even in his first game where he kept his hands clean but weaponized other's anger and irritation with lethal success. Chishiya's quick to get involved if he needs to, but never without a real REASON to in his own books, and it's never his first instinct.
I point out the fact it is a Venus flytrap because there IS another snap trap plant called the waterwheel. BUT the waterwheel would actually be more NIRAGI towards the average player than Chishiya. Waterwheels are also snap traps, but they are EXTREMELY reactive. They don't have the two consecutive hair triggers that the Venus fly trap does and are about ten times faster to physically move and snap closed. Chishiya, even when pushed to action, is very patient and calm. He didn't rush to burn Niragi even when he planned it, they had a chat before hand whereas a waterwheel symbolic character would act first in that scenario. It's a rarely known plant and the last of its genus, so it might be a stretch to know many would know of it. But even if they did, I think a Venus fly trap would still have been chosen because it makes the most SENSE for Chishiya.
All in all, I just want to say that I LOVE the plant symbolism and details that we got with Chishiya in that one sole panel.

you inspire me to have kissy friends i love that but im still fighting being awkward about intimacy 😭💔
for me i understand myself and the way i love p well, and being v simplistic about it the line between platonic and romantic isn't there for me if i think ur cute and cool, i am just getting to know n appreciate u as a person! fundamentally.. which ways our connection blossoms and our dynamics will come about naturally :3 i am p open though!! i am honest and love giving ppl compliments and positive feedback; there r a couple different ways i could go about being more affectionate and intimate with a friend.
one is when u just are getting to know someone as a friend, u can ask about their boundaries and let them know u r affectionate with friends!! if they are too then there u go ♡
the other is becoming closer and comfortable with someone and u feel something shift in ur relationship, and u can tell them u would like to be more affectionate and if they r okay with that ask what they are comfortable with :3
the fun one is recognizing a mutual brain break going on realtime 👁️👁️ if you're not brave enough to say anything in the moment u can always confess later and tell them ur having Thoughts about them and get a feel for how they feel abt you. you can offer them More and it doesn't have to change ur relationship with each other.
the common thread is being communicative and talking about boundaries, and if ur having a hard time w emotional intimacy i think a great place to start is being more open and honest ♡ wear ur heart on ur sleeve. even if u don't feel comfortable or brave enough to tell ur friends u love them, there's nothing stopping you from telling them Why u love them. i love complimenting ppl and thanking them and telling them i had fun, i tell them when they look cute and love their outfits and what i love specifically or I'll hype up ur jewelry or hair change etc; if I'm feeling sentimental about something between us i will tell u how i feel and make sure u know u are appreciated.
i don't give compliments or praise or sentiments expecting anything in return, I'm just communicating my thoughts yk? take it as is and do with it what u will kind of thing, i just like being open!! i am of the opinion that people could stand to hear how great they are more often (✿ ‚‚⌒‿⌒‚‚) I'd like 2 think everybody likes feeling Seen, appreciated, understood, praised.
it's a lovely conversation starter but sometimes u just find someone u rly click with and as a dynamic i think practicing openness and honesty with each other on the little things makes room for u to be comfortable communicating bigger more sentimental and intimate things later on if ur friendship is going like that ♡
and with the boy specifically it was a combination of things.. we already had a great friendship and we had gotten a lot closer and more comfortable with each other conversationally, but phew i hadn't seen him in a good couple months i think?? and over that time i became comfortable with myself and Very t4t, and i got a lot hotter too when i went from fem to stem and he hadn't seen me in my masc era yet lol. not in person at least
anyways his birthday was coming up and i wanted to offer him a chain like mine and to make him a collar, and i was gonna go bring him his chain after work as a gift ^.^ ♡ when we finally got to see each other again oh my god lol he was in a sleeveless top w his arms out and For Some Reason i was more attracted to him than i had ever been 💀 i was trying not to stare too hard bc the whole time internally i was like AAAAA HE'S HOT HELP AKSKSKAK, BUT ☝🏾😌 I've had enough mutual brain breaks going on to know when someone's rly feeling me and i could tell lol. i originally just meant to stop by Real Quick but i ended up staying and hanging out for the evening (。ノω\。) i wasn't brave enough to say anything at first but i could not stop thinking about his shoulders and upper back and neck for like 2 days straight and i had to say Something.
being deliriously horny about him i was like GIRL OMFG DON'T DIE WONDERING TELL HIM SOMETHING and i sent him this 🙈
and he was glad i said something and was straightforward bc he was also having thoughts but wasn't sure if he could/should say anything ʕ ꈍᴥꈍʔ ♡ so we talked about boundaries and we're still friends like we were but we're affectionate with each other now too and it's a sweet way to deepen our friendship. we r exploring being sweet friends together 👩🏽🤝👩🏾 butch4butch t4t real...
i have a good idea of how i want to navigate polyamory but putting it into practice and loving my friends more intentionally, fundamentally and to the fullest w my current perspective is new for me! and being affectionate in general is new to him, so I'm happy that we can be vulnerable and brave about it together ♡ i can be a lil clumsy and he can be a lil awkward but i think we're very cute 😌🥰 he's a good boy (っ˘з(˘⌣˘ ) ♡
this ain't exactly a guide but it's a bit of what i got going on, take what u will from it (。・ω・。)ノ to be open with ur friends is a beautiful thing and i think things tend to develop naturally. i wish u the best of luck on ur quest w intimacy 🫶🏾
