I think all of these things weave together into just a very fascinating person when you look at them a little deeper. Someone who's clearly charismatic enough to acquire that much loyalty, love, and fear — but also not equipped to handle the shame of failure in the god damn slightest. When threatened he devolves from a calculated cult leader above it all to a snarling animal fighting for its life, because he's probably rotted away behind a mask of perfectionism for years rather than done any significant growth as a person. He's clearly intelligent, probably highly emotionally intelligent because if he wasn't he wouldn't be able to pull this shit, but all of that shatters and breaks and splinters with one (1) crucial failure. He tries to recuperate but can't, the survival instinct is breathing down his neck because to him the shame of being a human like the rest of them rather than the perfect ideal he's been forging is scarier than anything that could actually physically kill him. He blames N, he blames MC, Colress, just about anyone and anything that doesn't end up pointing back to his own shortcomings.

And still! N probably loves him! And it's probably genuine! He wants to connect with him and breach that gap and give him ibuprofen because even if he's shown himself to be cringe, that's still his father, which is something he values enough to try and hold on to. And the ninja guys remain ride or die, so there's clearly something to him other than schemes and trickery, something genuine and beautiful that might not in practice be worth fighting for but it sure feels like it.

A beautiful man who's warped himself into a demon because he couldn't stand his own humanity because he's probably autistic and traumatized from his undefined childhood, and when he's beat down, rather than taking that L at long last, he'll curl up in his little cage, continue to snarl and tell himself over and over that this is what he is. What he will always be. He couldn't become god so he resigns to dying a devil. Because even still, that is preferable to him over taking that L, admitting to himself he is just a little guy like other little guys with problems he couldn't cope with, and that it caused hurt and destruction.

Devils don't feel regret or shame, humans do. And he'd have a loooot of that to chug through if he decided to face it. So he won't.

Survivors guilt, as you lie there on the ground losing blood at an alarming rate. She's frozen. She's almost in denial as other survey members rush to your limb body. Cyllene finally snaps out of it all. Her panic hits her all at once, barking orders to get you back to camp.

Unfortunately Pesselle running low on supplies and with time running out she wasn't sure she would be able to save you. Upon hearing this Revelation something inside her stoked a fire Cyllene took it upon herself to go out and find every single ingredients she needed helping her nurse you back to health, of course you being unconscious from blood loss for a few days you had no idea all you woke up to was an angry rant from a very very pissed captain.

After all she did, she couldn't save you. Sadness and rage bubble into one, gritting her teeth, nails scratching at the cold ground; she wants to scream. Damn it why wasn't it her? Damn, it should have been her! The job of the Galaxy Core was to protect people and she couldn't even protect the one person she cared most. She needed to get stronger she needed to be more so this would never happen again. And that's why her heart grows three times colder that day.

Laventon

Laventon drag you outside of Camp to look at some Pokemon well he asks you to ready your pokeballs for a catch, but he doesn't notice the alpha Garchomp that had their eyes on you. Everything was a blur then helplessly sitting still as the rest of Team Galaxy tried everything to use your Pokemon to fight the alpha back off as they get you back to safety. If only he could throw a Pokeball if he were good at raising Pokemon. Laventon felt like a burden to you here he was having you risk his life to do his work any friendly wake up he's on the verge of tears holding you closely his hands shaking the sinking feeling of uselessness does not leave.

He drowns himself in his work. It is the only way to make him forget about his constant nightmares of that day. He still loves Pokemon. He does not blame Pokemon for taking your life, but he recognizes more than anyone else that Pokemon are as dangerous as they are fascinating. If it wasn't for Leafeon who growled at the large Pokemon making sure it didn't take a step closer as his human brother held you in his arms, blood staining his fingers. Leafeon successfully holding back the Pokemon that threatened your life walks over to Adaman whining as he looks your arm giving him a worried look. Adaman knows the natural remedies around these parts you are too far from the settlement and the village to take care of you so he does all that he can using leafeon's aromatherapy to soothe you as he begins to use natural herbs and revenues to calm the bleeding as much as he can while ripping apart his own clothes for makeshift bandages rumoring through your bag for anything he could use anything at all to help.

Upon waking up, Adaman almost tackles you, holding you close to his body, careful not to hurt you. He squeezes you gently. "You're an idiot..." he whispers, his hand shaking, his voice breaking. "don't you ever scare me like that again."

jack helps the proxies so that slenderman lets him stay in the forest as refuge. he doesn't like toby at first, seeing him as too violent, too aggressive, viewing himself even in his monstrous form as more human than toby - which is true, in a sense . toby kills for slenderman. he wouldn't be killing people if not for that, BUT he absolutely finds release in it - he makes a game out of it, he detaches himself from the victims and reflects all he wanted to do to his dad onto them. sometimes he catches himself saying exact phrases his dad screamed back onto them. bro probably called his victims 'npcs' at some point LOLLLL

and jack RARELY EVER does his own killing. he gets a lot of his bodies as a dark web human remains disposer(cuz he gets paid for it too), or from jeff. and it took a while for him to be able to stomach the shit he has to do to survive, so it's rough for him.

jack hates it, jack hates what toby does, but he can see so much in toby that goes beyond that and it fucking sucks and it hurts and jacks prob cried FOR toby before. not in front of him, but anytime jacks confronting his own mortality and humanity, toby is one of the first people that comes to mind each time, and he wants to throw up thinking about it. only nina can rival how emotional jack is LOL

it's kinda weird for toby the way jack treats him - sometimes he gets mad and accuses him of treating toby like some research paper in a book, because he knew jack had a decently privileged upbringing in comparison to himself, and hates the supiroirty complex. jack asks too many questions and is always just trying to grasp whats going on in tobys brain and its fucking infuritating for toby.

but jacks just always fucking there. jack is easily the most present person, always easy to find, usually calm. tim/brian are rarely around, kate is unsettling and hiding away half the time, jeffs a dick, bens unreliable, ninas in love with jeff and has a life seperate from the creeps. even natalie has long periods of time where she just cannot get herself to confront toby because she has her own issues and is struggling to even maintain her job as a waitress. she can't be there half the time.

Wally was more worried about you. He appreciates the gift, especially if it's something crafty or handmade, but in the end, he wants to make sure you're okay. He takes your hands in his (ignoring the possible germs) and looks into your eyes. Only this time it's not exuding a creepy aura - it's concern. You quell his worries, and he turns his attention back to thanking you for the gift.

Julie is also worried about you, though not as much as Wally. As in, she can still focus on the gift and thank you for it first. Once she gets reassurance that you're okay, she asks you lots of questions about the gift you brought her. If it's something unfamiliar, say an old smartphone, she asks you so, so many questions.

Sally assured herself that you're fine, so she doesn't really worry about that. She sort of just takes the gift, acknowledges it, and moves on. She appreciates it, of course! It's just that there's so much to do and so many rehearsals you've missed and you simply must catch up! It's crucial!

Frank needs to be sure you're not sick anymore. Not only is he concerned for you as a friend, but when it comes to situations like these he's pretty cautious about germs. Yes, he's not afraid to get a little dirt on him when looking for bugs, but sicknesses are not something he wants. Other than that, he's very thankful for the gift. He decides to study it, of course.

Eddie asks lots of 'are you okay?'s and 'are you sure?'s. He trusts your reassurance and gets over it quickly, though. Still follows you around to make sure you're okay, however. The signs of him missing you are slow to present themselves, but if you're like Nayuta, they're glaringly obvious.

It starts with accidentally making an extra plate of food and then shrugging it off, like he didn't forget you weren't joining them for dinner.

And when it comes to chores around the apartment, he mentions it's your turn to do them and Nayuta has to remind him you're not here.

So he obviously takes over because you wouldn't want him to be so lazy, or something like that.

And Nayuta can hear how he talks about you way more as you're gone for longer and longer

Everything reminds Kanata about you and his brother has to listen to his brother rant about you all day.

Anytime he tries to bring it up that he may miss you and he should just call you, he shuts that shit down so fast.

Assures you he is fine and he can handle himself.

He doesn't need to call you like some clingy child!

In fact, he's more than happy to have a bit of time on his own!

It's his way of proving he's still independent!

But Nayuta knows that this kind of behavior isn't sustainable and cannot go on forever.

As he watches his brother continue his downward spiral into missing you, he takes it upon himself to call you.

You're obviously relieved because you've been trying to get a hold of Kanata, but he's been trying to prove he's independent and doesn't need you as much as he lets on.

Nayuta assures you he's fine physically, but he's not sure how much longer that will last. 

You tell him to call later tonight and then give the two of you some private time so you can talk.

He agrees and sets the plan in motion, telling Kanata he's going to go visit Shiki.

Kanata answers the phone and when he hears your voice, he finally breaks.

And I mean full on mental breakdown.

He misses you so much and he's disappointed in himself that he's not strong enough to be away from you for so long.

You assure him he's plenty strong and he doesn't need to be so hard on himself.

You tell him just how much you miss him as well and how much you want to be there with him right now to hug him and tell him everything is alright.

You promise you'll be home as soon as possible and the two of you will be able to talk in person regarding his insecurities and your time apart.

Kanata, to his credit, tells you how much he loves you and how he's desperately waiting for you to come home. 

With promises made, you both hang up, feeling closer than before.

Nayuta Yatonokami:

He tries to be strong like his brother.

But it's easier for Nayuta to break than Kanata.

However, he's not quite as "aggressive" with how he shows he misses you, if that makes sense.

While Kanata lives in a state of denial, Nayuta is clingy.

You can't go an hour without getting at least two texts from him.

He just wants to talk to you and make sure you are okay.

He's never been apart from you for this long and it's a little scary for him.

At night, before you both go to bed, you spend at least an hour on FaceTime.

You both talk about your day and anything new, cool, or exciting to share. 

Despite how much he hates being apart from you, Nayuta really does love listening about how you're enjoying your time.

You have so many cool stories to share and you're so good at telling them, he feels like he's right there with you.

Really you tell the best bedtime stories in his opinion.

However, in the morning, when he realizes he's alone...

It makes his heart hurt.

He misses you and wants you by his side again!

Kanata is quick to pick up on his brother's feelings.

At first, he tries to distract him and remind him that he can lean on him in times of distress.

But eventually, longer than he cares to admit, he knows his brother's need for you is too strong.

He needs to do something about it.

And so Kanata swallows his pride and calls you, asking you to come home.

While you unfortunately can't hop a plane and fly in tonight, you promise to talk to Nayuta about his feelings as soon as you can.

That night, during your FaceTime call, before you can even say anything, Nayuta speaks first.

He apologizes for monopolizing your time while you're away and how clingy he's been.

He tells you he'll try to back off for both of your sakes.

And that's when you have to shut him down.

You tell him you miss him just as much as he misses you, maybe even more.

While you can't leave right away, you plan on getting home as soon as possible, because you need him and he needs you.

You both cry together for like an hour, but it's a good cry.

Because you both know that you both love each other more than anything in the world.

And that is definitely something to cry about.

I need to rant about a few things from Bad Batch so

SPOILERS AHEAD

I'm writing this based on memories right after my first watch because my emotions are overwhelming me and I need to rant about them to strangers on the Internet. They're also not in any chronological or logical order.

First off, Echo telling Emerie that he knew the Zillo was Omegas doing? Because he would have done the same?

Immaculate. Fives would be proud to see his brother still being up to dangerous shit. And even passing it along to his little sister/daughter.

On the same note, the Zillo breaks out and the boys outside immediately know it's not coincidence because of course it would be one of their genius madlads.

Crosshair: Was that Echo or Omega.

Wrecker and Hunter without missing a beat: Omega

Because of course it was her.

Then Crosshair saying Clone Force 99 died with Tech had me crying buckets. Baby really has lost all feeling of self worth and needs time to heal on Pabu. Poor boy. Probably feels hella responsible for his death, too, because he wasn't there to help them.

Next up, Hemlock's operatives? You cannot tell me that they're not reminiscent of the Clone Force 99 we saw in Clone Wars. Using debris as a shield, like the first plan we see them do? One fighting with knives, like Hunter? One having a rifle, like Crosshair? Hemlock saw the boys and said: damn I want that as well.

It also explains why many people (me included) hoped for the reveal of Tech being CX-2. They're meant to seem like the Batch.

Also I really hoped Scorch would somehow survive this, just because I'm currently replaying Commando and feel for my poor boy.

Then I think a lot of us remember the meme with the explosion? Absolutely adore, that it was Nala Se blowing the research and Rampart to pieces.

Don't get me wrong, Rampart was a great addition to the recent episodes and his screams had me dying with laughter, but he was an evil piece of shit till the end. He died as a selfish evil Empire guy instead of dying for redemption (like there is a tendency in Star Wars) or getting to live on without any change. He stayed an asshole, even if he was kinda funny in the end.

Now to get into some specifics about the ending and the fate for the boys.

The cut to black when one of the operatives threatened Crosshairs hand? I nearly shat myself, holy hell. What the actual fuck.

The constant pan to Wrecker being injured? I was fully expecting him to sacrifice himself in the end, very glad he didn't.

The scene in the rain on the bridge? Immaculate. The perfect climax to the show. Perfection.

Hemlock's threat being empty, because he needs Omega.

Crosshair still worried because, even if Hemlock won't shoot Omega, his trauma won't just go away and he cannot risk Omega getting hurt.

Omega realising Crosshairs struggle and helping out.

Hunter realising that Omega realised.

Crosshair getting the first hug.

And then we see them leave. Safely. Because it's over. Their fight is over. Bad Batch is over.

Seeing all the clones and children happy on Pabu was the kind of ending the show deserved.

I'd go so far as to call it the ending the show needed. Because the Bad Batch would never have stopped fighting, if there was still danger threatening one of their members. Omega wouldn't have stopped fighting if she had lost another one of her brothers or hadn't been able to free the other clones.

The only way for them to find peace in that world, was a happy end. And I think that's beautiful.

In fact, this leads right into my final thoughts on this. Omega leaving to fight for the rebellion is very on brand for her selfless nature. It's also why this has to happen in the future. The Bad Batch had done their duty. They had fought enough battles for their lifetime, which is why we don't see them joining the rebellion with her. Why it has to happen, when Omega is ready to leave on her own.

Then of course, I cried buckets for Tech's glasses on the dashboard. Because her following in his footsteps and becoming a pilot makes this story come full circle.

Sidenote, I'm pretty sure her hairstyle is, at the very least, inspired by Phee. And her flying is probably closer to Phee than Tech as well, because she is still a chaos child.

Perhaps we'll see more shows from this time. We're certainly still lacking important info.

@creepysora and I were also talking about how in all likelihood Striker wouldn't really be able to kill Alastor, because of the sheer power-difference (but, you never know... So I know I just posted about how happy I am to be back, but I am also incredibly confused and have nobody to talk to about this, so I'm going to try and sort out my thoughts here.

After I came back, I didn't hear any other alter in my head, I assumed they understood I was too overwhelmed with emotions to take care of them all, and maybe some of them just didn't wanna talk to me anymore because I was mute for 6 months. However, I soon found myself depressed, sick and starving, because I will be generally too sad to make food or to eat. Sickness has caused me severe pain but I'm used to waiting it out, pain feels normal. And also, it seems that my old protector, who used to jump in when things were going bad, isn't here anymore.

My old protector was working tirelessly to block any suicidal thought I had, before I even had it, so that I was unaware of how suicidal I am. I knew this was going on only because this alter showed me exactly what they do, and let me experience genuine suicidal thoughts I had for 2 days, and it was like, endless stream of suicidal thoughts, very difficult to deal with. And just to be clear I'm not even suicidal, I want to live, the reason I have a stream of suicidal thoughts is just because life is so unmanageable and painful, the suicidal thoughts just get naturally generated, because the brain is looking for an exit from all that pain. I think naturally, some things are worse than death, like torture, or endless pain, and we as a community understand that. And I'm often exposed to that kind of pain so my brain is just like, 'ummm isn't it time to cut this shitshow short', and then my protector would be like NO and block the thoughts so I would just be 'yeah pain is normal lets keep going' and that's just my life.

Anyway, after a few days of not eating enough, I started hearing an alter just yelling at me to buy food, very determined and persuasive, they were listing all the things I needed to get, and I'm very reluctant to do such a thing, but the alter was very insistent that I absolutely have to, so I got some food, immediately ate it. Then later I was in too much pain to be able to fall asleep and they yelled at me again, to take pain medicine, and they kept on and on until I eventually took some.

To me being yelled at felt like someone caring so I'm quite content with this, but I don't know who this alter is, I cannot recognize them. Even though I had alters yell at me about things before, it was never really like this, in this protective manner, they just yelled about things they wanted. I wanna know who this is, and they're not telling. And why can't I hear anyone else? I doubt they all merged or disappeared, unlikely.

It also seems that the only method this protector has to protect me is to yell at me until I do whatever is necessary for survival, they can't block my thoughts or take over and do it, which has me a little concerned. I'm used to protectors just taking over and doing things that I can't, and physically preventing me from taking any suicidal actions, and now I have to be persuaded to do it myself.

Part of me is enjoying that I can have all of my thoughts now, even the suicidal ones, but I can also easily be pushed into suicidal ideation, especially when in pain, I feel a bit on edge, like something bad could happen at any moment and I wouldn't have good protective measures to deal with it.

Also it feels like my body was just waiting for me to be back to spring into all kinds of illnesses and pain, while the other host, who does not feel emotions, was active, we weren't even sick! I am starting to believe that getting in touch with all the traumatic emotions just destroyed my immune system completely, half of my body is inflamed and it's not even getting better, and I can't even chew solid food. And also I have nobody to talk to and I'm just trying to hang on and believe that it will not always be like this and eventually I will find a way to heal.

Spare Grimm headcanons? Funky goth bastard has been on my mind lately

Sure! These are just scraps lying around me old noggin

-Started off as a twin to the Radiance, who then slowly grew more and more distant as each accumulated new differences between them. This works mainly because the majority of their power sits in the Dream Realm, so they do not obey the same rules of biology as those born in the physical realm (like PK, who mimics a biological being quite well despite basically being composed of soul pretending to be flesh). Grimm now views his sister as a pitiful thing almost entirely apart from himself, and while he does wish things did not turn out the way they did, he wouldn't shed a tear at her death

-Created the butterfly tribe soon after Radiance created the moths (or was it before...?) Both argue that they had their own idea first. Grimm doesn't tie himself to them, however, because the Radiance's obsession with being the mother of the moths/be accepted and loved by them all disturbed him. Also, being tied to them brings discrimination from those terrified of him, so if you ask his relationship to them, he'll never give you a straight answer

-The butterflies, in turn, either do not worship him directly; they are often traveling preformers, much like their creator, but they dance and sing and turn to the arts to remind people to value life when it is rich and beautiful, not to herald Grimm's arrival (as is often misunderstood by those who know of him). They also never speak his name, so many who are estranged from their tribe just straight-up don't know him

-Split himself into three (Nightmare Heart, Nightmare King, Troupe Master Grimm) partially because he disliked the all-eggs-in-one-basket means the other gods did, and partially because he was curious about death. The Troupe Master form will literally 'burn out' without the full might of its componant parts to constantly regenerate it in the physical world, which is why he has that phoenix-like lifestyle. If one part is killed, the others survive, but he cannot live a continuous, constantly immortal existance like the rest of his kin

-Infertile; can only reproduce asexually, which bothers him sometimes. Actually a great dad though fuck y'all who says otherwise. Tends to adopt kids he finds in warzones/runaways, which gives him a legend of being a grubnapper and cradlerobber despite him not going out of his way to steal children

-Opportunist to the core: is he as dangerous as other gods? Probably not. He holds no territory of his own apart from his troupe, and he's a scavenger to boot. But he's less of a mild-mannered vulture, and more of a crow; he'll wait patiently for his turn at the carcass of old civilizations, but if he finds an easy way to hurry along the process, he will. And while he does feel pity for unfortunate souls, he will also devour their fear and dread just as hungrily, because that's kind of his entire job. He's the cleanup crew. It's nothing personal

-Does he have bones? Organs? A face? Don't ask

-Much like wyrms are legends brought to life of now-extinct vertebrates like snakes, Grimm has batlike/mammilian features because legends are still whispered about those ancient enemies of the night, even though it has been many millenia since they went extinct, and bugs were small enough to be hunted by them. Their memory lives on in legend and the deepest instinctual fears of bugs, and manifests itself in Grimm

-Somewhere above 13,000 years old, if we count continuous rebirth cycles as a single life. Yes, the Radiance was this old as well. I place their creation somewhere around the time bugs became able to conceptualize/tell stories of their hopes and fears, which brought them into being

-Gender? Whatever feels like the most fun preformance for him right now. Gender doesn't exist when you're a dream coaxed into reality, with all the temporal bindings that posesses (almost none). He usually uses he/him bc Radi feels very strongly positively about she/her, and bc its dapper, but that's not set in stone by far. More set in smoke, and just as whimsical and easy to change

-Somewhat of a narrative foil to the Pale King, but in self-sacrifice, responsibility, and fatherhood, unlike the direct foil of the Radiance. Bit incoherent rn bc I'm sleepy, but despite his fairytrap deal of joining the Troupe still being, well, a fairytrap, he doesn't hold anyone to strict loyalty like PK. Yeah he's a nightmare god who lives on the entrails of civilizations felled by death and ruin, yeah he's exactly what he sounds like he is, but he's also not cruel. That would be a waste of precious time and energy, and he hasn't got much to lose, either, so why bother? He's just genuinely a laid-back dude when it comes to the other gods. Best to let them tear each other apart, he'll always profit when the warmongering is over no matter what

okay okay okay i've got a dissertation on this.

character-wise but not gameplay-wise: i am in LOVE with xinyan and shenhe but cannot, for the life of me, figure out how i would successfully build them. i also really like ayaka and ofc xiao is one of my favorite little guys, but i think i'm going to find ways to implement them pretty soon, so they'll be moving to my 'character and gameplay-wise' eventually. collei and kaeya are also two of my favorite four-stars, but alas, i simply do not have the patience for them.

gameplay-wise but not character-wise: wanderer has a permanent spot on my exploration team TRAGICALLY because i wouldn't be able to get by without his skill. diona's shield is also the only reason i survive on the last floor of the spiral abyss like. at all. i'm also going to tack eula on here because, although i do love her, i recognize that she sorta does only have the one plot point going for her which, for the record, is fine. not everyone needs to be a secret demon lord or something. some people can just have a full-time job and some minor character drama and that's fine.

gameplay-wise and character-wise: nahida nahida nahida NAHIDA for obvious reasons. yae miko and ei also have some of my favorite story quests as well as mechanics that have been carrying me since inazuma, and i am both emotionally reliant on venti as a funny little guy i collect merch of as a full-time job but also as crowd control and ameno support. barbara also gets a spot in this section because i love her and, for the life of me, she's the best hydro applicator i can get my hands on. i know there are better options but better options don't sing a little song while they heal me.

it really was pointless!!!! Toga has his blood, he should have anticipated it! The first clone Toga makes (not her actually transforming) WILL have Jin's personality, memories, etc. He'll be "back" temporarily, and could make infinite clones ESPECIALLY since we know Jin's clones can be used for blood transfusions so she could potentially harvest infinite amounts of blood for keeping the transformation/making sure she can constantly create more clones. There was literally NO point. And Hawks is supposed to be smart enough to have realized this was a possibility given he knew their abilities.

I agree. Hawks should have seen this coming, but I think his oversight (and the Commission's) actually works with his characterization, not in spite of it.

Iirc, Toga's powerup, the ability to use the quirk of the people she transforms into, relies on the strong love she feels for them. But Toga is widely perceived as a deviant, and no one except for Jin and the League was ever able to accept her definition of love. In this light, I think it makes a lot of sense for Hawks to underestimate the threat her quirk awakening poses. Hawks never really understood the League as people, or the ties between them as care.

After all, we already have an example of Hawks Othering Dabi because he can't understand his reaction to Twice's death. He never got to know Dabi well enough to learn that he smiles when he cries, and in absence of tears he's just left grinning manically. So when Hawks sees an expression that he cannot immediately categorize as grief, he tells Dabi that this is not what loss should look like, implying that his reaction is heartless, that Dabi's the monster here, not the person who actually struck the killing blow.

Imho Hawks' failure to read any humanity in the League is supposed to mirror hero society's rejection of those that don't fit in. Compare for example his horrified and judgemental shock to the reaction Toga always receives when she drinks blood or otherwise experiences her version of love:

The dehumanization at play is very similar. The basics are: "you're emoting in a way that doesn't fit social norms I'm accustomed to, thus you're a deviant that doesn't conform, and as such, a monster".

Considering how Hawks only offered a chance for a fresh start to Twice, despite his time with them he never really got to see past that superficial impression of the League as violent freaks and murderers. It wouldn't surprise me if his idea of Toga is not to far off from that of the people who covered her childhood home in offensive graffiti.

I'm mentioning all of this because Hawks refused to acknowledge Jin's dying words. The hankie story.

In his dying breaths, Jin was trying to make Hawks see the humanity of the people he befriended in his time with the League. He tells him that heroes always divide people into "the virtuous," aka those deserving their help, and the "downtrodden folk" like the League, who don't. And he tells him that even if society sees his friends as hopelessly inhumane, beyond salvation, it was Toga who helped him at his lowest point, lending him a handkerchief to wrap around his head and ease his fear of splitting up. When the heroes left him to fend for himself until he lost his mind, it was a villain who cared to put him back together.

But Hawks never got to see that side of Toga, or that side of everyone else beyond Jin. He never acknowledged Toga's love as care the same way he recognized Twice's genuine love for his friends.

Hawks' worldview isn't wide enough to accommodate for such gray areas. I've written a post before on how I think Hawks functions on a categorization of people into "good" and "bad" boxes because that's what helped him survive the abuse, and imho this is just another example of it in practice. So he decides that Jin is a good man who was led astray by bad company, and only sees the rest of the League as monsters incapable of being as "good" as Jin.

I think Hawks' failure to foresee the consequences of killing Twice might fit into this narrative. It's not that he lacked any intel to make the connection, or that he had an uncharacteristic moment of stupidity and didn't think of the ramifications of murdering him. But if we read him as sufficiently socially inept to miscalculate the bond between lov members as purely transactional, like his reading of Dabi in relation to Jin, I think it helps understanding his incompetence better.

To put it in simpler terms, maybe it's not that he didn't anticipate that Toga could turn into the people she loves, but he simply didn't think that Toga could love Jin. Cause he assumed her version of caring was something more twisted and freaky than a "normal person's." That it had to be fundamentally different from the way people like him and Twice experienced it.

It's true enough that Toga only ever verbalized her romantic love/obsession for Deku and Ochako. We readers of course know that's not the whole extent of it, and that she draws even more strength and growth from the platonic bonds with the Lov. But it's also true that Hawks never acknowledged the League as a group of people brought together by the necessity of belonging with someone who can accept them for who they are. He just sees the villains, but not the humans underneath. Jin could,

But Hawks doesn't.

In that light, then, when Toga will bring back Twice, that won't just be a moral slap in the face that shows the force of the bond they shared, but it will also nullify Hawks' efforts towards protecting the greater good at the expense of the "downtrodden folks" like Jin.

And in doing so, it might show old guard heroes like Hawks, who represents the HPSC and thus the system itself, the fatal mistake of believing villains aren't human at the end of the day, and exactly what needs changing to have a better future

hiii kit it's 🦊 again I am back because I just had an epiphany about the healer anakin AU I am obsessed with currently. so is the blindfold like a hijab where your close family (so other healer peers in private I suppose?) and your significant other is able to see you with the blindfold off? I started thinking that keeping it on 24/7 is probably not ideal and there has to be some time that it comes off, and who gets to see you then.. I am south asian so I kinda dig this tbh! 😊 (2/2)

hello hello this is such an interesting ask!! for the first part, i'm really not sure - i think there are fics on ko-fi that i would love to expand and write more for (the healer anakin au being one of them) but at the same time, i think while i am running the ko-fi fic thing, then those stories need to exist only on there - or i need to talk to everyone who supports me monthly on there and see if they would be ok with me posting those stories somewhere else (like on ao3 or tumblr) and expanding on them more. as of right now, they're really just one shots that act a bit like slices of life in the au - just enough information that the characterizations are apparent and just enough setting and premise that it feels like a story but overall stand alone

but yes i too am sorta obsessed with the idea of healer skywalker showing up to healer functions with a bright blue silk bandana over his eyes while everyone else has the standard issue gray or white cloth. of course they wouldn't know, but just imagine like. mace windu attends to give a debrief of the next few battle plans and anakin is just...sticking out like a sore thumb lol

as for the second part, in my mind i'm sort of waving the logistics of keeping the blindfold on for long stretches of time because im leaning more into the fantasy side of star wars tbh - i think it's more angsty as a concept if healers sort of...give their eyes away forever/until they retire and never open them. they change the bandages and shower without them on, but the force is supposed to act as their eyes for menial daily tasks like telling apart shampoo from conditioner and cooking (and they just get used to it)

like that feels so much more angsty because obi-wan will never ever get to see anakin's eyes again and he has to just. make his peace with that which he's obviously struggling to do in the ficlet on ko-fi. he has to figure out how to love anakin as he is, with his vows, or he won't get him at all and obi-wan wrestling with that is a key part of the ficlet. im not sure how strongly that angst would hit if they could reach a certain point of closeness and then he could get anakin the way he had him when they were in the creche, sight and all you know? he needs to accept who anakin is to really have a chance at loving him without getting some other version of him back

but that being said i also do dig the idea of the blindfolds being taken off in the company of one's family or loved ones and am open to it--it explains a lot of logistical questions for sure lol

i just also really like the angst and acceptance that comes from the idea that obi-wan must become ok with never seeing anakin's eyes again....only for anakin, who loves him so much, to break his vows because obi-wan is dying and needs him or obi-wan is dying and asks to see his eyes one last time (only for obi-wan to categorically survive)

Alys and Nettles

I just keep coming back to these two. They are fascinating to me.

Both of them were bastard girls. Both were smart and fearless in trying to make their way in their world. Their arcs are tightly connected to Aemond and Daemon respectively (who serve as foils to each other). Both are accused of witchery. At the end one is 'the witch queen' and the other 'the fire witch'.

Of course it IS likely that Alys did indeed have some power. But if she had more than visions and was indeed able to bewitch men, it's a wonder that she did not have a better life. In F&B she is portrayed as such an interesting woman (to the extent that we can tell). She has endured too many miscarriages. She is a wetnurse, which is frowned upon despite its uses in that society. She survived Daemon, found this precarious safety around Aemond, was Sabitha Frey's captive. It's not clear whether she didn't have the full picture about God's Eye or whether she intended Aemond's death. At the very least we know she DID have some compassion (she saved the squire from Aemond's wrath). She watched the demise of House Strong in Aemond's hands. We have this escalation of her claiming that she ha Aemond's bastard in her belly to her saying that the child was trueborn. It always made me wonder if she was lying to cling to power or if she and Aemond married so that their child wouldn't have the fate bastards faced in that world, which she had endured (being looked down upon and considered sinful, having no inheritance rights etc.). I love even the fact that the source cannot decide if she was exploding head with her mind (likely not) or if she was just a strong-willed woman who gave orders that were carried out efficiently.

Then we have Nettles. The black little girl who claimed Sheepstealer as if she was taming and befriending any other animal. Nettles who was said to be a whore's daughter and who is accused (because there IS a sense of accuation in the phrasing) of having lost her maidenhood too early to survive, of having sold herself to get the sheeps she gave to the dragon etc. Nettles who cried after a victory when Jace had died, when others rejoiced and were only thinking of their advancement. Nettles who is the ONLY dragonseed who is NEVER mentioned to be getting any of what was promised to them until the gifts and teachings of being clean and ladylike that come from Daemon. Be it that they were or weren't lovers, this girl's bastardy was weaponized against her because of an accusation that wasn't proved. It being uttered was all that was necessary for her contribution to be erased, for her looks and birth to be used as an argument of her inability to have claimed a dragon with anything other than witchery. Daemon got excused with a narrative of victimhood being span and all the blame about any POTENTIAL relationship between them falling on this girl. I also love how, while they clearly cared for each other, Nettles is the kind of survivor that flies away and doesn't look bad even as she feels the sting of the separation. The closest to her being accounted for at the end is as the 'fire witch' and 'the dragon woman' living outside of society, lonely but worshipped by the Wildlings.

Unlike cases like the Red Priestesses, I love how here Witchcraft is (to an extent) used as a false claim or with the powers being greatly exaggerated, by fearful men of two women who were not noble and had to learn how to be survivors.
