You avert your gaze without fact-checking him on the condoms, laughing awkwardly as your heart races. “Right.”

Oh, he's feeling funny tonight. Your laugh is authentic as he takes your arm, the basket in his other clinking as he starts forward again. You finish your quick stock up and Hotch pays for your things despite your protests, packing you and the bags into his ‘cushy’ car. 

You're a little embarrassed in the passenger seat. Your relationship with Hotch is complicated in that while you're in the official early days, you pined for a long time. He hears an insecurity in your tone you don't mean to reveal, and he pieces it together swiftly. Understanding lines his eyes. “I don't think so,” he murmurs. 

You're embarrassed beyond words, but he is your boyfriend. He asked with a little expensive bracelet and your favourite baked treat from the bakery near work. You'd only ever mentioned it once, but he remembered. He knows you well, and he's never given you reason to be afraid of his reactions. 

“It's just so embarrassing,” you mumble, staring down at your socks. 

“What is?” he asks, crossing the kitchen to take your hands. “You don't have to be embarrassed about anything, you're perfect.” 

Your breath catches, your neck cracking uncomfortably as you look up. “I– I don't know how to talk about it. I know it's childish.” 

“No, it's not. It's a big thing, and it comes naturally to some people, but not everyone.” His brow furrows a little, the warm depth of his voice working to unspool the tight panic you'd been clinging to, “I'd never push you to do something you're not ready for.” 

“I know that. It's not you. And I don't know if I'm ready or not, it's just–” Your face is hot enough to boil rain. You shake your head. It's too difficult to explain. 

Hotch ushers you into his solid chest. “It's okay,” he says, patting your back gently. “Don't worry about it.” 

“I want us to be like everyone else,” you confess. 

“We are. You're not the first woman to get nervous about the idea of intimacy, sweetheart, I promise. And I'm not the first man to make a bad joke about contraceptives.” He laughs as you laugh, two huffing chuckles as he presses his lips to the top of your head. “You can take as much time as you need to get used to the idea, and if it's still weird when you're ready, does it matter? We'll be weird about it together. Or we won't be. Okay?” 

“Yeah, okay… thank you, Aaron.” 

“I waited a long, long time for this,” he says, giving your back a pointed little squeeze. “And it's more than I ever thought I'd get. I'm not worried about the rest. I'm in no rush, and you shouldn't be either.” 

You hide your face in his chest for a while, somehow more embarrassed than when you'd started. He draws lines up and down your back with his palm patiently. “It's okay,” he says again, kissing the side of your face. After a moment, he encourages your head back with a hand on your cheek, checking your expression carefully before leaning in for a kiss. His hair tickles your forehead. 

To your relief, it doesn't make you nervous. He probably never could, not when he's touching you so softly. 

You're feeling a hundred times better when you pull away. A tad mortified still, but relieved to know your struggle with talking about it isn't a turn off. If he can stick with you through this bump in the road, you can try, at least, to overcome it. 

“Is lube really thirty two dollars?” you ask in a whisper. 

“I don't know. I've never needed it.” 

He spends the next ten minutes laughing and apologising sincerely as steam pours out of your ears.

So I'm back! After an unnecessary break! 🤣

He had already known that you were San's younger sister...well, technically everyone did sin you were one of the producers under KQ and San was a proud brother. Not even in his million dreams did he ever expect to date you but love had other plans and the both of you began going out together in no time.

Obviously San knew you were seeing each other since you tell him EVERYTHING and he was more than happy. Heck, he was your biggest supporter and always helped you and Yujun meet each other outside of the company. Even when the company found out San had threatened to bring down KQ if they tried to break you guys up which they didn't. The company support you and Yujun's relationship and the both of you were forever grateful to them for that.

San was the best brother one could ask for, he was a good big brother to not only you but Yujun as well but it had its cons as well...one of which consisted on him always third wheeling you two.

"What...are you doing?" you ask San as he smiles and squeezed himself between you and Yujun in the middle of your movie date at home.

"Keeping you guys company~" he said making you groan as Yujun laughed.

"You promised!" you whine as Yujun butts in.

"I don't mind!" Yujun said clearly because he didn't want his sunbae to be upset.

"Yayy!" San chimed as you groaned and continued playing the movie.

Even though he tends to tease the both of you and third wheel your dates he knows his boundaries and knows when to stop.

Hunter

Hunter obviously had no idea who your brother was and upon hearing that Wooyoung was his favourite member you knew that you HAD to prank him and well, knowing Jung Wooyoung you knew he'd say yes to help you prank your innocent and adorable boyfriend. So the sequence of the plan was to tell Hunter that your brother wanted to meet him and see if he was good enough for you and when they finally meet Wooyoung would pretend to be unamused and surprised that you chose him as your boyfriend.

Of course, when the day did come and when Hunter met Wooyoung. Jung Wooyoung the Supreme Prankster could not bring himself to go with the plan when he saw the nervous/scared look on Hunter's face. Well, so did you...when you had told Hunter and met him you already regretted ever thinking of this prank.

So Wooyoung broke off the cold atmosphere with a groan and told Hunter everything and gave him a hug.

"I CAN'T DO THIS! OMO I am so sorry! This was supposed to be funny but you look so nervous! I didn't want our first meeting go go like this!" Wooyoung said as he held the not-so-little boy's shoulders.

"Huh...." Hunter just stood there confused as Wooyoung patted his shoulder.

"Me and my sister wanted to prank you but you looked so nervous that I couldn't bring myself to prank you!" Wooyoung said as Hunter's jaw dropped.

"But in all seriousness...you're a good boy. You're perfect for my baby sister." Wooyoung said and well let's just say you had a wonderful time that day when Hunter came to your apartment feeling super clingy and peppered you with kisses.

Yechan

Mingi was already super happy with the fact that he had a cute and adorable little sister like you and then he finds out you're dating Yechan and he couldn't be any happier with the fact that he now has a little brother too. When Yechan and Mingi meet each other away from the work environment as your boyfriend and your brother respectively Mingi already gives him his blessings to marry you in the future.

Then on both Yechan and Mingi become besties with you always being the topic of their discussion. You were more than happy to see your favourite boys getting along really well. Their friendship and bond also brought along a string of unofficial collabs. The first time you get to hear their songs is on your birthday when they performed a rap number composed specially for you.

"Aww that was amazing!" you say as you move to give both of them a big hug.

"I'm glad you loved it! Me and hyung stayed up all night making this song!" Yechan said making you tear up as you gave him a big hug.

"Stoppp! I'll cry! You guys are so cute! You better get married in the future!" Mingi coos and picks the both of you off the floor for a group hug.

It's safe to say that your brother and personal hype man approves of your relationship and both you and Yechan were forever grateful for it.

i did not expect this one to be sooo fluffy but I ain't complaining!

yesterday was brief and the understanding of it was elaborate and filled with un -briefed opinions and comments .. it showed your love and affection and also the fact that no matter what, you remain there with me ..

this is a rarity where , each day and time change is a factor with the generation of the next decade .. no no no .. decade is time consuming .. the next DAY .. and pun intended ..🤣

but yes .. the brevity was to be in charge of the circumstances at work , which I might add were demanding and irksome and testing and .. well .. 

and yes at times the body and mind attuned to the work does not care or worry or think of any else .. as i would imagine are the Terms and Conditions for any individual at the work station .. and so ..

when the domesticity demands or flares up about the hours without food or drink , it is worrisome to them of course but out forgetfulness for that is not because we do not wish to obey .. it is our preoccupation with the work on hand .. 

what can be designed to be done after a lunch break can be done in continuity of the work in motion and finished ahead of time .. and then indulge in whatever the indulgence needed .. 

it may be difficult to understand or be of any comprehension for one that is not in the craft , to know that we also keep our motors in execution long after the work is over .. 

when we sit silently or involved in other conversations , one section of the cerebrum keeps the computer of memory on forever .. and brings it to the stage of printing it when the camera gets into motion .. odd but ..

aahhh .. explanations of this kind are a give away to many of the minds of all .. but some minds think and operate thus .. 

graciousness of all for the miss last night .. but .. 

am on a furlough thought .. thought eh .. to be in practice soon .. hopefully shall then be better placed to operate the connection needed ..

Look. The difference is that everyone can agree on what tae said but not everyone can agree on what jk said. You're coming here to gloat about V saying something unsubstantiated. Because we dk if they did meet up at all in the end. You, are counting your chicks before they hatch.

We, on the other hand have CONFIRMATION that Jikook were together the night before Jimin went to England. Thats a fact 💯 First inaccurate translation and the second translation corrected by other Kjikookers and Karmy JK solos, both state that Jikook were together. Period.

So when I weigh what I have and when I weigh what you have which is essentially nothing, I'm sorry but my load is heavier 🤷🏽‍♀️

But dw. I know why you're here. Y'all just can't get enough of Jikook moments so, I'll share with you one of my favourites involving our president himself.

See, Jhope loves Jikook and he is very invested in their relationship. Maybe even more than we are. Why do I say this you ask? Sure. Let's take a look.

Bon voyage season 3 episode 6. We know all about V sleeping upside down and cuddling JK's feet in his sleep.

Jhope walks in and he is shocked to say the least. He wonders why they're sleeping the way that they are.

I think its safe to say its not the skinship that shocked him since the Tannies are always all over eo anyway. So it's the cuddling 'gesture' that he was less than okay with. We know this because he couldn't wait to tattle on JK. He really couldn't wait to bring this up.

He continues to add fuel to the fire about the cuddling.

He wants to make sure Jimin knows exactly what was going on 😂

Now Jimin who's attention has been peaked is kinda shook now and he asks; "what?" And Jhope happily clarifies that yeah, they were cuddling.

But thats not it. He needs to make sure he understands the situation exactly as it happened. Mimi is proper invested now, guys.

🤣🤣😂😂 I think its safe to say Jimin doesn't like when JK cuddles other people in his sleep. Which tracks because JK only ever cuddles Jhope (makes sense that the best friend that Jimin trusts explicitly, JK has the green light) and when other members cuddle him u will find JK keeps his hands to himself. Even with Jhope sometimes.

But not to worry. Jimin didn't have an issue once he found out JK wasn't the one doing the cuddling. And they lived happily ever after!

So I'd say this moment goes hand in hand with this post. And I guess Jimin standing and watching Hopekook here makes a little bit more sense? Idk. U judge. It will forever be funny though how JK pretended he wasn't even there. Pretended to be busy and refused to look at Jimin 🤭🤭

Speaking of Jhope being invested in Jikook. Here is a moment I noticed when watching Burn the Stage. Jimin stopped to talk to a member of staff and Jhope stood there watching him.

As u can see V is also talking to them but Jhope doesn't take his eyes off Jimin once

I've also seen Jhope look at what Jimin is doing when he's talking to other IDOLS or other men/people. Like that popular Jeonlous Taemin moment, if u go rewatch u will notice Jhope also keeping an eye on Jimin and Taemin. And I've seen several times when something is happening with Jimin and some dude, Jhope will turn to look at JK. Like when Jimin was shooting Wonho finger guns. It wasn't just JK watching keenly but Jhope too. So when I watched that part on Burn the Stage it reminded me of those instances.

It's like when you love your bestfriend's boyfriend and u always have to keep an eye when your bestfriend is talking to other people who are not their boyfriend type of thing. Like I said, Jhope is invested in Jikook and he tries to make sure they don't mess up what they've got.

I also mentioned here about Jhope and the way he hugs Jimin; almost like he's preventing their crotches from touching. Also their hugs don't last long at all.

And I show here JK signaling Jimin to get off Jhope and come to him. U can see Jhope noticed 🤭🤭

So to me Jhope knows how JK can be. How many times have we seen JK displace Jhope to be next to Jimin? Latest being the Vminhopekook LV live. JK walked in and made Jhope get off the chair so he could sit next to his man. So yeah, Jhope knows JK very, very well so he's always keeping an eye out for fuckery.

Hi, dear Blue, I saw your post and Rushed over! Coincidentally I reread the first three chapters of the CEO series before work today because it is a masterpiece! So I have fresh thoughts on them rn. Hope this helps motivate you even a little🥰💜

Chapter 1: Complaint

Ah the first part of what has become an Absolute Masterpiece!

From the first chapter I was hooked, obsessed, and addicted. This particular part was what really got me excited for the series-

“Did you get hurt, angel?” Jimin says softly. Tears definitely start to well up in your eyes as you look towards him. Taehyung let’s go of your chin to caress your cheek as a tear drops and he wipes it away. Namjoon’s eyes darken, they know for absolute fact you could do no wrong but unless they wanted HR to come visit they needed to resolve this in house. He knew that bitch was lying through her teeth about their favourite girl, but they needed you to tell them what actually happened so they could get rid of her without any mess. “We can’t help you baby girl if you don’t tell us,” he says, hoping it would elicit something out of you.“You guys are the problem,” you say through a sob, and your arms come to cover your face as more tears shed down your face. Their hearts sink at your words, Taehyung frowns at you, his dark eyes disappearing to look at you with sadness.

I've reread this one more times than I care to admit lol including thrice just today. One thing I noticed immediately and really loved was that you were careful to mention everyone, even if they didn't get a ton of dialogue you made sure to mention their thoughts or actions.

Chapter 2: Mediation

Aka Jimin's chapter. You know an author understands how to write Jimin when I can literally hear Filter in my mind while reading his parts. Our Blue is truly amazing🤩💜💜💜

All of the boys feel thoughtfully written as well. Jin who's calm and gentle but we all know he's just as if not more dangerous than the rest, Joon is the epitome of calm before the storm as well as the storm itself, you do NOT want to be on his bad side, Yoongi ever done with everyone's sh*t and probably wants to fire the rest of the building on the daily, except for Y/N of course who brings out his secret not so little soft side and the cutestgummy smile known to man, our Sunshine Hobi whose dark side is just as scary as his bright side is cheerful,,,, mad Hobi is honestly so attractive though,,,, and I love watching the Maknaes be petty towards Suran (or anyone really lol) and protective and clingy with Y/N🥰😂

Chapter 3: Resolution

The Dinner Date! It was such a cute chapter, short and sweet and has me grinning like a schoolgirl with a crush everytime I read it. Once again you go above and beyond making sure all the boys get a fair amount of attention while still making Y/N feel like the main character. I love being able to watch the character grow and really related with the anxious self thought in the first part of the chapter. Oh to have seven boyfriends to boost my self-worth at any time😍 Y/N is definitely living the dream right now.

First of all, thank you - I feel blessed since I actually really enjoy working on asks like this. It’s a good excuse for me to draw them together outside of my thesis. But also this ask has been the only thing I've worked on for the past 4 days... So i really hope you enjoy it because I'm a long long way from finishing my thesis---

When it comes to their relationship, “animal headcanons” probably wouldn’t effect much of the dynamic so I haven’t thought about it much until now for this specific question asdfghjklkl — anything that happens during this ask just kinda exists in my head as I go so fair warning: I am not responsible for any of my brainrot nor is any of this actually canon as far as I know of🤣😂🙏

Callum likes to act weak in front of Aaravos and pretends like he's bad at most things. I think he secretly just wants to be pampered.

And now- for the extra extra brain rot probably relating to animals but also is here because I feel like this is very on brand for the both of them. Enjoy~

Again, this is not canon but it would be hilarious if it’s true, I didn’t bother looking up about these monkeys that’s how much I despise ss4. But if Ray’s pet is just a baby right now that means she’s raising a 100lbs death machine and Cally made the right call to dip with Aaravos. This idea came from a video I watched about some family keeping a chimp as a pet and it literally murdered them all.

Author's note #2: I will always acknowledge that there IS anger and contempt within Aaravos. No amount of sunshine and possitive energy can possibly recover him from those traumas - but this can be navigate in the best way possible when you consider the fact that he is also a known genius, both in normal and emotional intelligence. I think this fantastically synergize with Callum's curiosity but extra kind and understanding self, leading to some very special moments and facial expressions. Something they completely destroyed forever in the show and I will always be angry with that.

Thank you for making it till the end, this was a very long ask despite the question being fairly simple. I love these two character with all of my heart, and as always, I am so blessed to have at least some people here to share my undying passion for them ❤💗💜🏃‍♂️

The scene between Lucy, Tim, and Angela is one of my favorites, tbh. Angela is such a chaos gremlin and I love her for it. And more Chenford arguing. It's not light hearted like it usually is, but I like to see the different sides to their relationship.

Angela: Let what go? Tim and Lucy: Nothing.

... Tim: Fine. Whatever. Lucy: Great. Angela: Maybe I'll go too. Grab some popcorn on the way for the show Tim: You're not funny Angela: I'm hysterical. Ask Wesley THIS IS WHY I LOVE HER

Gotta admit, Nolan and Bailey both trying to keep each other from finding out things to keep the other calm is pretty cute.

This DJ is so unhinged lol. Bailey shooed Nolan out being like "please don't arrest this guy and make our wedding even more difficult than it already is." First the switchblade, then a robbery, and the molly was the last straw 😂 Bailey's face said it all

Lucy being like, "ok, go ahead" and Tim saying "ladies first" I just-- 😂😂 They're so perfect for each other

Reason #95238 that Lucy Chen is amazing: "I have to look amazing in a dress tomorrow. Nobody care what you look like. He's huge. I'm not fighting him." Tim fighting this giant ass dude simply because his girlfriend asked him to will never not be hilarious and pretty adorable to me. And the fact that the only reason she didn't want to fight him was because she wanted to look good in her dress will never not be badass to me

The Hammer just THREW Tim into those cabinets, across a table, into a TV, over the back of a couch, and against a bed not once but twice. Tim HELD HIS OWN. I know it shouldn't have been, but it was really hot. Poor baby crawled to the coffee table for the ring. THEN, proceeded to hand it to his girlfriend while on one knee and bleeding. LUCY AND I ARE BOTH ABSOLUTELY FINE I PROMISE. He didn't realize it at first, but he definitely did once Lucy stood there stuttering at him. He tried to hand it to her and she just sort of froze. Her brain short circuited and he panicked, and it was all perfect. She still managed to compliment him on the fight though 😂

Lucy: Good job Tim: Yeah, thanks Lucy: You ok? Tim: Yeah, I'm great. *falls over*

Tim and Lucy spotting each other across the courtyard and then again across the dance floor. They're always going to find each other whether it's buried alive in the desert or at a friend's wedding, which seems to be their thing now 😩

Aw Luna finishing her degree. I seriously love her and I love her and Grey together. He's so supportive of her, it's just so clear that they're a strong, loving unit

"Sit down, German" had me wheezing. Grey's delivery is everything 😂😂😂

Bailey's entrance was pretty adorable, ngl

A lot of people were saying how Bailey's vows were really beautiful and how it was so great seeing her say those things and mean it after she had been in an abusive marriage, and I couldn't agree more. She was right, what she said was simple, but it covered everything it needed to. And I think it was really beautiful in its simplicity. Nolan's vows were really great too. He's not normally great with words, but it was really sweet, and it's really obvious how much does cherish Bailey. 

Ah and Henry made it!! I miss seeing him. I do wish we got to see Abigail too though. I LOVED her. Plus, their relationship is adorable. 

The dance floor scene with everybody was so cute, omg!! I loved it. Everybody looked so happy and like they were having so much fun. Jenna even said it felt like a real wedding

Aaron and Celina watching Lucy look at Tim across the dance floor was amazing. They're so invested in their relationship, and I think it's hilarious. Chenford had groupies on screen too 🤭😂

I felt so bad for Aaron. He's not handling everything very well, and I do think he was kinda hyper-focusing on Celina a little. It's natural after a shared trauma like that. But he tried to kiss her and she shut him down. It was sad. I was really trying not to like them as a couple, but I kinda do now. IDK

Chenford rampage incoming:

It seems like they arrived separately, but they still sat together at the ceremony and honestly looked like they were enjoying themselves. So to me, that's just an other testament of how solid they are even if though they're fighting

Tim couldn't take it anymore and went pulled Lucy onto the dance floor. He knows they have more talking to do, but he wanted to be close to her. And her pulled her out to If I Ain't Got You of all songs. ARE YOU JOKING????? *squeaks* The way he looked at her when he walked over to her and the way Luna looked at Lucy AHHHHHH. Nope, Imma need a minute

Lucy dragged her hand down Tim's chest and looked him up and down and Tim leaning into her, looking at her lips like LET ME BREATHE

From what I remember in your story, even taking Iroh's initial biases into account I thought part of his intense hostility leading up to his report to Ozai was that he was truly convinced that Azula's true nature was either no better or even significantly worse than Ozai's due to the Iroh's suspicions arc. Azula herself told Sokka she was worried that by throwing him of the trail of their relationship that she may have brought the worst out of him. Honestly this was probably my favorite exploration of their conflict, because if they were truly able to trust each other and talk they could have avoided so much pain and trouble, but both of them over the course of the story had developed genuine and/or biased reasons not to trust one another and viewed themselves as doing the right thing despite their actions ultimately resulting in the worst outcome. Azula was trying to prevent a known adversary from having ammunition to ruin their lives and future plans, and Iroh believed that he was essentially hindering the fire nation by turning what he thought were essentially two Evil Ozais with a good relationship with one another into enemies. I can't lie that I'm not slightly disappointed that in the latest chapter that this aspect of their conflict wasn't brought up more explicitly in the conversation with Zuko when Iroh was talking about his biases. Was I personally thinking that the dynamic was more significant than it actually was or is that dynamic being saved for a future conversation Iroh may have with Sokka and Azula?

Uuuuuh, as for the last question... I don't really know if I'll bring it up some more since I do think I've had Iroh acknowledge why and how he fucked up in that respect in the past + exteriorized that if Azula had acted differently he might just have done it too? Am I crazy for thinking so? Did I write that or didn't I? That's a complicated game to play when you're almost at 5 million words of a story... 🤣

Azula and Iroh miiiight have one more conversation in the future and maybe this will come up there, but I haven't written it yet so I won't make any promises on that front. Admittedly, I don't expect their future encounter to be particularly fruitful. Iroh is 100% genuine in what he has understood and learned, though, that can't be denied and I always have hoped to portray him not as a super wicked villain but as a character who thinks he understands far more than he actually does, with motivations that push him into making mistakes he very much comes to regret.

This being said, the Azula-Iroh and Zuko-Ozai parallels in this story are and always have been 100% intentional. Those two tugs-of-war have been going on forever, and the crux of them was very much the fact that Azula and Iroh distrusted and second-guessed and suspected each other soooo much... because they have similar natures, similar thought processes, and they're both intellectual, suspicious, hiding what's REALLY going on underneath the surface, and immediately wary when they recognize all those traits in each other too. Likewise, Zuko and Ozai have some REALLY ugly parallels and one of those parallels, already given away by the chapter you sent this ask over, is going to be the driving force of the conflict between those two, much as a similar thing was the driving force between Iroh and Azula, in its own way: the more they fight to push the other away, the harder they reject the other, the more they end up embodying the flaws they see in that other person, to an extent where they could do absolutely TERRIBLE things just out of wanting to push the other one as far away as possible.

So yeah, the point was never for Iroh to feel like some sadistic mustache-twirling villain who wanted Azula to suffer just for shits and giggles. He had his reasons to do what he did. Doesn't mean he was right. Doesn't mean he should've done it. What it means is it made sense in his head due to his biases, the information he had at hand at the moment, and the particularly awful relationship he had with Azula. Likewise, Azula's rejection of Iroh back in "Iroh's suspicions" caused her uncertainty and anguish because she KNEW she had taken it too far. She was afraid of the consequences. A part of her KNEW that if she acted differently, there was a chance, however slim, that Iroh might not have made the choice he did. And that's why this is such a messed up situation! :')

Ultimately, I want my characters to have motivations that just... add up. That can be traced. That, upon looking at their actions and choices, anyone can go "oh yeah, this is why they did whatever they did". This is good when it comes to establishing ultimate goals, and it's also good when you want to put characters to the test: how far are they willing to go, what are they ready to do to achieve whatever they're trying to achieve? How much are they willing to sacrifice for it? And the answers to those questions can be VERY extreme and painful. Just so, we can find characters who decide to back down and simply surrender over their goals when they realize that there are other things that matter more. But it's a manner of game a writer plays when it comes to gauging and figuring out what a character wants vs. needs, what a character will fight for and what it will take for them to surrender, and so on. Fundamentally, that's how I built up Iroh and Azula's chaotic dynamic. Whatever comes from that in the future, ultimately, their biggest problem may just be that they were just too smart for their own good, tried to outsmart each other a little too much, and never allowed themselves to just... accept each other properly. They came close to it once, yes! But... they failed. And it's depressing as hell, but complicated characters will always be challenging this way...

13. Rate your worldbuilding skills from 1 to 10.

Hmm . . . I thought on this one for a bit. See, on one hand, there are some authors and writers out there that deserve a true 10 (or higher) that come to mind, like Tolkien with the expansive universe and such he had created. And those seem very "Heavy In Worldbuilding" type stories. But worldbuilding still comes into play for stories set in our normal world as we know it too, of course, not just fantasy settings 😅

So after pondering worldbuilding in general for probably far too long, I'm thinking I'll go to a solid 5. I feel like I'm decent at world building and considering different aspects of the world my stories take place in and how that might affect things, but I know I've a lot of room for improvement in that regard. There's been many cases where people would comment or theorize on different things and how it might affect the story that I hadn't ever even thought of! So, probably at my current skill level, pretty average, I think.

30. Describe a fic that almost happened, but then it didn't

Oh gods, so many. Of which, many are in WIP status because I'll feel bad if I day they're abandoned 🤣 But let's see, what's a good one that I don't think I'll get around to writing . . .

I really wanted to try writing a classic fake-dating, only one bed trope filled fic with Dreamling. Very Hallmark Movie-esque with Hob not wanting to deal with his family and grandparents and everyone asking when he's "going to bring someone home again" and "you deserve to have another chance at happiness" and "Elle would want you to try again" and "I don't want to see you all alone, it's not good for you." And Hob's just . . . Done with it all. He's not sure he can handle another holiday filled with those comments, so when his Ma calls, confirming when he's coming down for Christmas and asks if it's just him, he lies and says no. It's not. He's bringing his partner.

And then freaks out once he hangs up and realizes what he's done.

I had the thought of him meeting Dream on the way there. Both of them waiting at the train station to get out into the countryside. The trains running late. Snow's coming down pretty quickly. Dream's miserable and Hob overhears his argument over the phone with someone (Desire? Death? Night?) before growling out that "he would have a better holiday keeled over in a ditch on the side of the road than if he spent a single minute within any of your company." And aggressively (as aggressive as one can with a smartphone) hangs up. He starts gathering his items, looking ready to head back to London when Hob speaks before his brain can tell him it's a terrible plan.

He asks Dream—without even knowing the man's name—to come spend the holidays with him. Says there's gonna be good food, a cozy fireplace, a cute cat, and that no one should have to spend the season alone, even if their family sucks.

Dream, fresh off his most recent failure of a relationship with Thessaly, feeling more depressed than his usual baseline, and a tad more comfortable than he should with the idea that this man could very well be a serial killer, agrees. He shouldn't. Death's voice rings in his head, telling him this is how true crime podcasts start, this is how horror movies start. But he finds he can't even bring himself to care.

They talk a bit over the train ride, small things. Hob does most of the talking. Then Hob brings up the fact that he may have told his Ma he was bringing a date.

Dream bristles at that, they get into a quietly heated argument on the train but the fight soon leaves him. Perhaps this is the only way someone could "love" him: faked for their sake. Untrue. A lie. But it's better than nothing.

So to that, he also agrees. Hob's shocked through this whole thing and feeling guilty about basically conning this man into being his "boyfriend". But then, in classic rom-com fashion, they start to truly fall in love, though convinced the other isn't. There's probably a good portion of arguments and rubbing each other the wrong way, of course. And intentional embarrassment of each other too.

But it's when Christmas morning comes around and the whole family is having fun and laughing and watching each other open gifts that one of Hob's little cousins hands him a small, flat package with his name in fancy script. He blinks, confused as he sees the "From" field filled in with Dream's name.

"I thought we said we weren't giving each other anything?" Hob asks, brow quirked upward, wondering when the hell this man even had time to get him a gift. (Then a spark of fear, wondering what the hell is in this package. Especially after their fight the night before.)

Dream says nothing, of course, just silently watches with an intensity Hob's begun to grow fond of, hands curled around a warm mug of hot cocoa, still clad in the set of matching PJ'S Hob's mother had bought them both.

Hob peels back the shiny red wrapping paper to find a single sheet of thicker paper. On it, a wonderfully sketched and rendered image of Hob's very own face rests. He's smiling, wrapped up with the beanie and scarf combination he'd worn on their outing to the tree farm earlier. It takes his breath away.

"Turn it over," Dream commands quietly, the sound of joyous laughter and activity nearly drowns his deep voice out.

On the back is that same, neat script. There's a letter addressed to him. His eyes barely get through the first sentence before he tears up.

"I have grown far fonder of you this past week than would be advisable, but as I have found throughout my life, the heart rarely cares for such matters of the mind. You aggravate me, Hob Gadling. You, with your overly cheerful morning greetings and terrible singing. You, with your propensity for listening to the same three Christmas songs on repeat and a ludacris appetite for sweets. You, who would visit the Queen of England in nothing more than coderoy trousers and a secondhand sweater vest. There are countless reasons I should only feel disdain for you. Had we met in any other fashion, I doubt we would have ever wished to speak with one another again.

And yet . . . And yet, I find myself smiling when I hear your voice above the falling water in the bathroom. And yet I find myself humming along to the words to Deck the Halls, a song I had never known the lyrics to before this year. And yet I find myself enjoying the warmth and comfort one finds wrapped in your arms, pressed against those very sweater vests.

You confuse me, Hob Gadling. You are the antithesis of everything I have ever sought in others, but perhaps that is why I now find myself falling for you. You who understand me at a level I find terrifying. You who is unafraid to push me when I need pushing, to guard me when the world is more than I can handle.

I believe I am falling in love with you, Hob. And that terrifies me. But, perhaps, you have started to feel the same?"

Hob, of course, all but falls into Dream's lap and kisses the man, earning a whooping holler from his brother. Be he doesn't care. Because he has Dream, something he thought impossible.
