had some very interesting experiences with men and fiber crafts today.

at lunch i was embroidering some cute flowers on a pair of jorts and a male friend of mine came over and was like "omg u can knit??!" and i was like. "uhm. no. i can embroider tho." (i didnt know how to knit at the time)

then later, once a friend had taught me how to knit for the play were doing, my male teacher saw me knitting away and was like "oh! u were sewing while getting your hair done? awesome!" (were figuring out hairstyles for the play and are time crunching) and again i was just like. "erm no i was knitting." my teacher was like "its a gender thing. us guys cant tell the difference" (he was joking. probably.)

then when i was telling these stories to my mom after school, my dad yelled from the basement that he knew how to knit. later, when i was ranting abt how different the crafts are, but how i could understand some being mixed up, he was indignant. so its not a gender thing.

anyways i perhaps could understand crocheting and knitting being mixed up. and maybe embroidery and sewing if u really know nothing. but both these guys got a yarn craft and a thread craft swapped 😭

Pairing: Steve Rogers x Pregnant F!Reader Synopsis: Steve gets called for a mission, but isnt sure if he wants to go and leave his pregnant wife alone after the attack from Thano's team the other day. (Even though reader is capable of kicking ass, but its cute Steve cares so much and is so loving to reader) warnings: Fluff, kissing, mentions of sex and impregnate. Characters: Avengers and mentions of the Children of Thanos *also, English is not my first language so sorry if they're any grammar or spelling mistakes!* (I fell like nomad Steve was a prefect choice for this prompt and should be on the Infinity War timeline)

Steve gets off the phone which seemed to be a pretty heated conversation. You sit on the couch looking at him while the tv is running in the back ground quietly.

"Everything okay?" You ask him. "That conversation seemed pretty heated."

"Yeah, its just Nat just called and told me they might have a plan on how to take down Thanos, and she wanted me to go with them to his garden to collect the stones." He exhales softly as he puts his phone on the table and sits down. "I just don't think its a good idea that I leave you here by yourself like this."

He was referring to the child in your belly that you found out about a couple days ago

"I am perfectly capable of taking care of myself, even like this." You look at him while he's in deep thinking. You walk over to him and sit next to him.

"Thinking about it now, you are the reason im in this situation" You laugh as you turn your head to look at him.

He laughs along with you as he bring you closer, wrapping his huge arms around your small shoulders.

"Well it takes two people, but ill take all the blame" He says kissing the top of your head gently.

"What if I do go. You know, with you, and i can build a suit that can protect baby." You put you hand on his and move back slightly so you are able to look at him.

"I don't think thats a good idea doll. What if something happens to you, to the baby. Ill rather stay here. With you." He looks at you with soft eyes.

"Well thats what the suit is for babe. Nothing will happen to us."

"They are completely capable of beating Thanos themselves. They dont need me. He got rid of all the stones and he isnt any harm." He assures you but you still are trying to push to be able to go.

"Steve, I love you. If i didnt i would have married you, or even gotten pregnant. And i love that care about me so much, but you know that i am capable of taking care of myself." You tell him with a pretty harsh tone.

"Yeah I know, but im just trying to protect you love." He says.

You're laying in bed with a book in your hand sighing softly. Steve walks in and leans on the doorframe and looks at you while crossing his arms in front of his chest.

"Hey. You okay?" He looks at you.

"Yeah im fine." You know he's there but still have your eyes on the book.

"Im sorry about earlier, it's just i know if we either go together or if i leave you here, that something will happen." He says and walks closer to you.

You place the book down on your lap and look at him. "Yeah i understand. Its just i felt like you couldnt think i could do it because im now pregnant and i wasnt able to do the things i could before i got pregnant."

He sits infront of you and takes your legs on his lap and rubs them softly while listening you.

"But now i understand why you dont want me to go, and honestly im not trying to look at those creepy looking things Thanos sent to attack us at the station." He nods slowly letting you speak.

"So, if you feel like you don't have to, then dont go." You finish talking and look at him.

"Yeah, i'm not leaving you here alone Mrs. Rogers." He looks at you laughing softly. You laugh along with him and place a soft kiss on his lips. He kisses back and smile in between the kiss.

"I love you Steven Grant Rogers" You say in between the kiss.

"I love you you too Y/N Y/M/N Rogers" He replies.

Spider-Man Read-Through 036: Thanos - The Final Threat (AV Ann 7, MTIO Ann 2)

As promised last time, Thanos is here, ready to smash some heroes!

And the Avengers are ready to smash him back!

This batch thoroughly impressed me, I must say.

Adam Warlock is here, and he's determined to fight Thanos, the Mad Titan. He asks the Avengers to help.

He explains that Thanos fell in love with Death and killed a lot of people, including his own mother, which is how you know he's the real deal.

Suddenly, Spider-Man!

There you go.

Back to our regular scheduling!

Thanos has been vanquished before, but he's back, and pissed off since Death abandoned him. So he got all 6 cosmic stones and fused them into a giant one.

Oh wow, we're really speedrunning Infinity War, huh!

Thanos plans to get Death back by destroying every star in the universe, which is completely batshit but also, I kind of love it. Love truly knows no bounds.

While Warlock is catching up everybody on who did what, Pip the Troll (don't ask me who that is) arrives on Sanctuary II and is surprised by Thanos.

Our heroes depart, and each one of them has a moment to collect their thoughts and fears, and it's remarkably well-written.

I didn't expect to actually be invested, but it reminds of the last issue of the Dark Phoenix saga in how grandiose it feels.

Suddenly...!

It's really impressive, actually.

Thor and Iron Man are deployed, and IM surmises that he can take care of the smaller ships, given how powerful Thor is...

And he would be right. How cool!

This is also really cool!

And this immediately what follows. The action sequence is really good, each Avenger has time to shine and it's overall well paced.

Unfortunately for Warlock, it turns out Thanos left his cherished Pip dead just for him to find on the vessel.

Warlock and Mar-Vell go to Thanos's ship first, they're quickly beaten, but then...

Damn, it's really a good issue.

Iron Man shatters the big gem. Thanos is quite enraged and disappears.

I was asking myself the same question, but you know what, the middle panel is incredibly raw and I don't need justification for that.

What I figure is that it's some sort of reincarnation thing à la Dax from DS9.

The dead hero awakens in the Soul Gem, with Gamora and Pip! Aww.

This is such a nice ending, I really love it! I'm sorry for all the pics, but it really was a stellar issue.

In the following issue, Peter is called in his dreams by Avenger Moon-Dragon, who makes him watch Infinity War and Endgame in 4K Ultra HD before DVDs even existed.

Except the happy end isn't quite there yet.

I gladly objectify the waking man. Well, he's already an object, but I'm looking respectfully.

In space, some stars discuss how it's totally fate that Peter and Ben Grimm aka The Thing fight together to save the universe. Huh-huh.

Spidey decides that he's going to need help, and naturally comes to the Fantastic Four. There, he finds Ben who just so happens to have a space shuttle ready for take off. And off they go!

I like how depressed Peter is. We rarely see him so quiet. It helps to convey the gravity of the situation.

The two heroes aren't doing too bad, but they eventually get knocked out.

Ooooooooh! Oh :( Wasn't it enough to give him peace?

Good for you, Spidey.

However, he changes his minds and successfully frees the Avengers, which I like because it's more of a Spidey thing. I couldn't see him quite fighting Thanos head-on.

Ah, I see again some of the brilliance of the previous issue.

Spidey successfully frees Adam Warlock from the globe that contained him, and the latter hero quickly annihilates Thanos. His crew surrenders immediately.

Aww.

Damn was that a great double issue. I largely preferred the first one, but the second one was fun too, wow.

Pairing : Guardians of the Galaxy x platonic!reader

Warning/Notes : None. Inspired by the movie “Night at the Museum”. Italic means dialogues. 

Plot : Quill and Nebula are send to retrieve the reality stone and are met with someone out of time.

“What are we here for already ?”

“Quill you idiot, we are here to retrieve the reality stone, you know to stop Thanos and bring back half the population of the entire universe !” Yelled Nebula while leaving the spaceship.

The two of them where chosen to go to Nowhere in order to find the Collector and gently ask him for the reality stone. Obviously that wont be this easy, lying is like a second skin for the Collector, he wont leave his precious collection for anyone even if his life is at stake. What a fool man he is. 

Since Thanos’s snap, so much things have changed. People lost their love, their family, their friends and so much more. Quill became a shell of the man he used to be, always remembering Gamora -probably the love of his life- trapped in his head.... That is until the Avengers -what’s let of them- decide on performing a time heist. Basically, returning to the past to retrieve the stones that Thanos haven’t stoled yet. Easy right ?! Not really. Everbody has a role to play, an infinity stone to retrieve, a mission to succeed. That’ how Nebula find herself trapped with Quill.

“What the hell happened here ?” Interrogates Quill. “That was not like that the last time I came here, it seems so different I don’t know how to word it.”

“Different how ?” Nebula never came here so as no idea what he is talking about.

“When I came here it was alien stuff everywhere, objects as well as living subjects... But know it looks like what we could find in those Terrannien Museum ?”

“You don’t seem that sure of yourself ! How I am suppose to trust you when you can’t even remember a fact as simple as “How is it different ?!” 

Before Quill could answer her, a sound of running as well as heavy footstep were heard by the bothh of them. They decide to hide behind and under a huge mahogany desk.

Some minutes later they both heard nothing, the get out of their hidding place to find themselves nose to nose with none other than me and a huge squeleton T-Rex.

“May we know who those lovely new companions’s are ?” I say in a seductive yet autoritative voice. “You’re not from here, especially you.” I irectly pointed at Nebula with a simatetic smile trying to lighten the ever present tension.

“Y-Y-You’ve got freaking dinosaure next to you, a squeleton’s dinosaure, and it’s moving...alone.” Quill freaks at the view an couln’t ontain his fear.

“No worries, he won’t do anything to any of you two except to protect us, that is a promise I made to you. Know if you could answers my previous question, I won’t have to waste my night time.”

“I’m Peter Quill and this is Nebula. We’re coming from the future to prevent a global extinction of half of the living being of this galaxy.”

“Your future seems rather awful, but it still not answer the reason of your mere presence here.”

“I think it’s stange that you don’t seem surprised at all or thinking that we might be lying to you, who are you and what are you doing here !,” Nebula couldn’t stand so many interrogations and so few answers.

“My name is Y/N, mistress of the Great Pharaoh Sethi the first, lover of the High priest Imhotep and holder of the Reality Tablett ! As for my pretended naivety, just know that Im way much older than you and I have a dinosaure on my side !”

Everything seems so unbelievable, how could this be. A dinosaure, pharaoh a reality tablett... They need answers from to Collector as soon as possible and get out of this place.

“Alright your majesty, would be please have the courtesy of telling us where to find the Colector ?” Ask Quill with all the good manners he could muster.

“Of course, he’s dead !”

“When ? How ?” If the man was dead they will never be able to retrieve the stone, not with y/n and here guard dog of a dinosaure thinks Nebula.”Did you kill him ?”

"It’s been some months now, and it wasn’t me sorry to dissapoint you gorgeous lady in blue. It was the Huns. Although I did nothing to stop them, I purely innocent.” I smile at them full of sarcasm but still genuine.

As I see that the death of the Collector seems to be a really bad new for the both of them I decide to explain them everything from the beginning to this day. At first he collected only aliens artefacts until he enters into possession of me -I was in Cambridge University at the time- to starts his Terrian collection. What he didn’t know was that I came with a tablett that -once at night and the moon shines on its center- allowed all the dead and inanimate thing to be alive again. Lets just say that it didn’t go well when he started to play with the Huns...

“So you’re saying that you’re dead ?” Ask Quill.

“From millenia now, but thanks to my tablett I rise again every night as well as everything damn thing in this museum, which explains the T-Rex.”

Nebula push Quill to the side so they can talk without being heard. She thinks that the tablett is probably a part of the stone that’s why the reallity is alternate but only in the museum an not elsewhere. They come to the conclusion that they need her tablett to prevent the end of half the universe. Unfortunately they also come to the conclusion that in order to do so she wont be able to rise anymore after tonight. They both come to her an explain everything, from Thanos to the snap, the other infinity stones and the consequences.

“If I give it to you, ou have to promise to find a way to bring it back to me”

“We’ll do what we can...” starts Quill.

“Promise me as I promise you ! I’m not the only stuck in here. I understand what you fight for I was by the Pharaoh’s side a ong time ago, the people are important. But understand also that in my point of view what happened or what will happened in the future is of no use for me as I’m already dead. The only importance for me are the people from your timeline, and from the museum.” I say with passion and tears prickling in my eyes.

“We promise you, we’ll find a way !”

“Thank you my gorgeous lady in blue !”.

 I aproach them while holding the tablett, lightly kiss the both of them on the lips, give up my tablett and go back to my sarcophagus. Before leaving their sight I turn around and tell them one last time “You made a Promise don’t make me regret it!”

after steve broke everyone out of the raft you were all on the run for a while

vision and natasha joined you all at some point, and scott and clint returned home to their families

after a while wanda and vision decided to stay in scotland, leaving you with sam, nat, and steve

you were not a huge fan of the idea of leaving her behind

you had already lost your parents and pietro and even though she wasn’t dead you still wouldn’t be able to see her

but you knew why she did what she did

fast forward a little bit

you find out that tony went missing

and then that wanda and vision are being attacked

so u all fly to scotland to help them

*insert u being a badass and beating the shit out of an alien*

finally reuniting w your sister

there were tears

when you arrived back at the compound it was like a breath of fresh air after so long

it’s a shame you weren’t there under better circumstances

immediately getting upset when you saw the hologram of ross

going to wakanda was an.... interesting experience

wanda ofc stayed up in the lab with vision and shuri

she wanted you to stay up there as well so she could keep an eye on you

eventually wanda came down to join the battle

the two of you fought alongside each other

but then

you had to go against thanos himself

you tried to use your magic to remove his gauntlet

you were unsuccessful

he kinda tossed you to the side like a rag doll

which hurt like a bitch

when he snapped you had no idea what tf to do

i mean you had just lost, what were you supposed to do?

you were in the middle of crawling over to wanda, wanting to try to comfort her over the loss of vision

but then she just kinda, disintegrated?

you were in shock for a minute

but then it hit you

“no, no, no, no, no...”

you started sobbing

now you had officially lost your whole family

after a little bit you made your way over to what was left of the team

you all kinda stood in silence for a little while, just processing everything that had happened

eventually you all returned to the quinjet and flew back home

for the first two-ish weeks after the snap you just locked yourself in your room and refused to leave

though eventually you did leave your room again, though very reluctantly

after three weeks had passed by carol, who you were quite fascinated by, returned to the compound carrying a spaceship with her

turns out tony was on said ship

you were glad to see him after so long

and now we jump to going to space to beat thanos’ ass (a g a i n)

you had never been to space before so it was quite a new experience

shame it was under such poor circumstances

when you arrived at thanos’ residence you were out for blood

he took your last remaining family and you were not in the mood to let him get away with it

and then you found out the stones were gone

and everything he had done couldn’t or so you thought be reversed

you were already ready to kill thanos before, but especially now that that was revealed

sadly though, thor took the responsibility of killing the titan himself

*5 years later*

you were 23 now

a whole ass adult

you still lived at the compound with natasha, not exactly having anywhere else to go

not like you would’ve left anyways but

nat had become your sort of support system over the last few years

after all, at this point you really only had each other

all of the rest of the remaining team went their separate ways, none of which deciding to stay with the two of you

one day though steve comes by

you were glad to see him, you had missed him a lot since he left

the three of you had a not-so-positive conversation and then out of nowhere scott appears at the front gate

he tells you his insane idea of using the quantum realm to time travel back to before thanos

you were very wary

you didn’t exactly have a lot of knowledge on the quantum realm but you could still tell that it seemed risky

the four of you went to tony’s house to try to convince him

he almost immediately said no

yikes

you all tried to convince him but to no avail

so you went to bruce hulk instead

bruce?? hulk?? who tf is he tbh

but anywho

when you saw him you were kinda like ????????

but chose to ignore it

you got him to agree to the time travel thing

and it was ?somewhat? successful

somewhat is pushing it tbh

scott became a baby which wasn’t great

but then tony showed up and fixed it like the genius he is

you helped recruit all the remaining avengers to help w the whole time travel thing

you were going to go back in time and get the stones before thanos could

you went with clint and natasha to vormir

you thought it made the most sense for you to sacrifice yourself

after all you weren’t even positive this whole thing with the stones would work, and you couldn’t risk continuing to live a life without wanda and the rest of the team

they stopped you before you could jump though

when natasha dropped you swore your heart stopped beating

she had been all you had for the past 5 years and then she was just gone

you ended up getting the soul stone but at what cost

you and clint returned to the compound and there was a small ‘memorial’ (for lack of a better word) for natasha

after that tony put all of the stones together into a makeshift gauntlet

after a little bit of deliberation it was decided that bruce would be the one to snap his fingers

immediately everything felt different

you went out to look out a window, seeing a few butterflies fluttering around that you knew weren’t there before

a smile immediately took over ur face

“hey guys, i think it worked!” - you

you were about to turn around and walk back to everyone else

but then

you saw a large ship in the distance

and something began flying toward the compound

and then everything went dark

when you woke up again you were buried under a bunch of rubble

which bruce picked up off of you

you ran out to where thor, tony, and steve were

you saw thanos and froze

they were engaged in a battle and you tried to keep your distance in order to collect yourself for a moment

which proved to be futile because you were dragged into the fight not long after

you kinda got your ass handed to you

it wasn’t pretty

you were lying on the ground when all of a sudden you saw orange light surrounding you

you looked up to see portals opening, all your allies who you had thought to be dead stepping out

you saw wanda and you stopped breathing for a moment

you got up as quick as you could

which proved to be difficult due to ur injuries and overall extreme fatigue

you launched yourself at her, bringing her into the tightest hug you could muster

the two of you held onto each other for a moment before you had to return to fighting

maximoff sibling teamup part 2???? yeah most definitely 

fast forward to after thanos and his bitch ass army lost (im sorry i just really dont have the energy to write all that rn)

and to after tony’s funeral 

you and wanda had a l o t of catching up to do

like

5 years worth LOL

u had to comfort her over vision’s death a lot

considering that to her, that was still only a couple days ago

and a lot of the time when you two talked the mood was kinda depressing, all things considered

but you still tried to keep it lighthearted

for example

your absolute favorite thing in the world was the fact that you were now older than her due to the snap, 3 years older to be exact

you held it over her all the time, constantly making fun of her for it

all in good fun of course

something wanda really loved was when you would tell her stories from when she was in the soul world (only happy ones ofc)

though it made her sad that you had to go so long without her, and she missed out on so much

she wanted to know what she had missed

all in all

you two were incredibly close, the snap and its aftermath only further confirming that

sibling goals tbh

Avengers Endgame Initial Thoughts

Okay. I have some Thoughts about Endgame, most of them fairly critical. Also highly subjective. So here goes. Spoilers abound, for Endgame and other MCU content.

1. OMFG they completely wasted Captain Marvel.* In her own movie, Carol is a fairly laid back, adaptable, competent, and Silly person. She has a wonderfully casual charm and sarcasm that’s really fun to watch. She’s also a powerhouse, and by the end she definitely knows it. (Like seriously, she destroyed multiple of Ronan’s ships in under a minute. In GotG, it took a whole fleet just to slow one of them down, plus a team on the inside to blow it up. And then Carol’s just like “nah, you’re done now.”) And then you hit Endgame. And we have a stoic, closed off Captain Marvel, who shows up, talks a lot about how awesome she is, and then spends fucking 80% of the movie on a shelf on the justification that she’s helping other worlds that are also in trouble. Which is a fine justification to keep her away for some of the setup. But the heroes’ main plan is time travel. Which means it’s not time sensitive, and they keep making a big deal about only having one shot. Why, in that case, wouldn’t you wait until you could get Carol on your team?? Thor is a psychological mess. Keep him on the bench and bring in Carol. OR have her on hand to use the gauntlet after all the stones are collected. But no, they just went with “eh, we’re not sure how to contact her, so we’ll just skip over that option entirely.” So they wasted her character as a character with minimal interactions with the others, and zero of those interactions actually being in character (except maaaybe with Peter at the end, but that very much felt like two actors trying very hard with very little to work with), and then also wasted her as far as plot impact, opting for a heroic re-entrance most of the way through the movie.

2. The time travel felt extremely poorly explained, which is really bad when your plot completely hinges on it, and is especially bad if you’re gonna rag on other movies with time travel. Back to the Future is paradoxical nonsense, but it’s self-consistent paradoxical nonsense. Endgame was some kind of multiverse with zero clear understanding of how different timelines/realities could and could not interact with each other. I’m still trying to wrap my head around all of the possibilities and whether there actually is an internal logic, but at the very least, while watching the movie, it entirely felt like they were doing whatever they wanted to suit the plot. Which is a bad sign when dealing with time travel. (My general approach to time travel is that you either have to completely handwave it or completely explain it. And that explanation doesn’t have to be an info dump! It can just be apparent in the story itself, such as with Time-Turners. Though I personally don’t mind time travel info dump tbh.)

3. Relatedly, the secret to time travel is to model an inverted Möbius strip and get the eigenvector of that one particle there. I don’t think I’ve been that annoyed but technobabble in a long time. That’s math word salad, as far as I can tell (though I’m admittedly not a mathematician. If any mathematicians can clarify how this makes any sense, I’d appreciate it, but in the mean time, I’m going to assume it’s garbled nonsense.)

4. Still on time travel but I’m having one hell of a time figuring out Steve’s ending. Like, how can he do that within the confines of the time travel mechanics? Why wouldn’t he come back and spend that time with Bucky?? Since, you know, they’ve like barely spoken being reunited?? For Pete’s sake, don’t set up their bond like that, spend two full movies on the turmoil cause by Bucky’s return, and then just fucking drop the plot line on the floor because you wanted to stick Steve back with Peggy. What in the fuck.

5. IM. SO. MAD. ABOUT. GAMORA. (And also Natasha, though that’s a slightly different anger.) GAMORA’S DEATH WAS THE MOST BS THING IN INFINITY WAR AND WAS ALSO THE DEATH I WAS MOST CONCERNED THEY WOULDN’T CORRECT. AND GUESS WHAT. THEY DIDN’T. SHE’S STILL DEAD.** The soulstone mechanic can get Fucked, because Thanos should never have been able to get it like that (and relatedly, should Hawkeye have gotten it, since Natasha threw herself, rather than being sacrificed? I’m undecided, but mad either way).

6. Is Loki still dead? Was he ever dead? We just don’t know. If he is dead, that was an amazingly dumb end and I object. If he’s not dead, that is a dumb cliffhanger and I object.

7. I don’t love Thor + Guardians’ dynamic? It feels very off, and I can’t tell if that’s just because it’s Avengers and therefore all the characters have gotten slightly flattened or if it’s just an unappealing dynamic to me. But we already had Quill vs Rocket leadership tension. I don’t was more of that but with Thor. That’s dumb. I’m hoping that it gets more nuance/resolution going forward, but I’m not holding my breath.

8. Relatedly, why would you put Valkyrie in charge of Anything but a battle plan? Nothing I’ve seen of her makes me think she’s well suited to general leadership, and I think she’d chafe under it just as much as Thor does. She’s not the Responsible One to take things over so Thor can go have another finding himself adventure. Ffs.

9. Probably no one’s fault because actor contracts are complicated, but I’m still salty about Lady Sif being 100% absent and unacknowledged for this whole thing. Largely because I haven’t gotten to see her interact with Valkyrie OR Carol and I feel cheated.

10. Some quick minor things before I go on a big rant. It bothered me that Thor’s depression and poor coping was just a joke, basically just “Oh look he’s fat and scared now, isn’t that funny?” I’m so tired of Tony vs. Steve, and I hate that they waited until the last fucking movie to sort of kind of resolve it. You don’t get to pull on found family heartstrings and tropes when you’ve done such a bullshit job of actually showing us a family. You’ve had 20-odd movies to do so. Do better.

11. Okay. I like battle scenes. They’re fun! They’re dramatic! If done correctly, they can give a very tangible sense of odds and stakes. But. Not every movie with high stakes needs a big final battle.

Okay, to clarify a bit, I’m specifically referring to army vs. army battle scenes here. Big punch outs between titans, or scrambling to minimize damage from a disaster are different, and have their own applications and pitfalls. All clear? Great.

Battles, with two armies facing off against each other in fronts, look cool, but fundamentally make no sense in the context of Endgame. Battle lines exist so that you have not very many people actively fighting at once, and so that you can protect the people next to them. When the frontline gets tired, they rotate back and others take over. Battles are not the same thing as skirmishes and they are not mass melees. If a battle turns into a mass melee, something has gone very wrong and you should in all likelihood pull back immediately to regroup.

All of this breaks down when you have an opponent who can break up or ignore your battle lines. Historically, this was artillery and guns—things that forced battles into a cover-based issue. In superhero movies, it’s... pretty much every character of note.

Thor’s lightning —> broken battle line

Black Panther’s suit discharge —> broken battle line

Falcon attacking from above —> pointless battle line

Wanda or Carol doing... anything —> pointless battle line

All of Thanos’ many flying troops —> pointless battle line

Thanos’ warship overhead —> what are you doing pls stop this

All of which is to say that traditional battle tactics don’t apply to this conflict. But the battle we’re shown doesn’t reflect that, and it feels very... weird as a result. Where who’s winning is entirely arbitrary, rather than any kind of steady build.

This tends to lead to a very episodic battle, where you show off individual characters or small groups of characters fighting. Which is fine, though contributes to battle progress being unclear. But there’s a temptation then to give everyone equal levels of badassery in their vignettes, and I think that’s a mistake. The avengers et all are a complementary group. They have members suited to a battle field and members that aren’t. That isn’t to say that Hawkeye and Black Widow can’t hold their own, but their skill sets aren’t specialized for something like this, and so any attempt to make them seem equal in this way is going to either fall flat or cheapen the battle suited heroes’ specialty.

And this tendency to level the field of badassery can also lead to situations where Okoye is backing up Carol for a charge, and I just.... gah. I love Okoye. So much. Carol does not need her help to rush a group of enemies. Carol doesn’t need help from any of the women who showed up behind her except for maybe Scarlet Witch. I get what they were going for. I get that it was supposed to be a Girl PowerTM moment. It wasn’t. It was dumb. It was so very much the wrong time for that moment, because this was not a context where Carol needed help. She just flew through a spaceship. She can fly through some enemies no problem. And it’s probably easier if she’s not worried about her allies getting caught in the blast. And then they had to make the backup team useful, so they made Carol struggle in a moment where she just shouldn’t have. You don’t get points for Girl PowerTM if you have to de-power one of your women just to make it make sense. Give me more scenes with Gamora and Nebula helping each other through Thanos’ abuse. Give me scenes with Carol and Okoye bonding over putting up with impractical people. Don’t give me this battle scene bullshit, I don’t want it.

11. I remain pissed off that there are no actually articulated arguments against Thanos’ fucking stupid plan. What the actual fuck, this is not that hard. 

Okay. Now that I’ve gotten that out of my system, some things I actually really liked.

1. Steve wielding Mjolnir was fucking amazing and I’m so pleased.

2. Any time Scott was on screen.

3. Peter Parker is a precious child and he needs to be protected.

4. I actually really like the set up for the time travel nonsense, and I liked that they seemed to be doing something other than a mass melee battle. That the group was divided into manageable teams, and sent on different kinds of missions that required them to be clever and play to their different strengths and help each other through. And then they shoved in a giant battle anyway, because fuck you that’s why.

5. I can appreciate what they were trying to do in giving all of the non-returning Avengers decent send-offs, even if I didn’t like some of those conclusions.

6. There were some genuinely funny moments, but I’m struggling to recall them right now.

7. Oh wait! “It’s an earthquake in the middle of the ocean. We handle it by not handling it.” That one was great.

Okay, that’s all for now. I might have more later, once I’ve picked apart the time travel a bit more and dined some processing.

I think it’s also worth noting that like... ensemble movies with a cast this big are *hard.* character are going to end up feeling confined, and there’s less time to grow because there’s just less time per character. But I think we could’ve had better, and I think if they focused more on group growth in the group movies instead of just drama, then they would’ve been in a better place and had a better story.

It’s probably also worth noting that I really liked Thor: Ragnarok, really like Captain Marvel and really didn’t like Infinity War. So I sort of went into Endgame feeling like it had to make up for Infinity War and live up to the higher at from the recent solo movies. And I really wanted to like it. I really wanted them to pull it off. But those are high and fairly specific standards, and so they fell quite short.

*This should be taken with a grain of salt, because I’d been dreading Endgame as an obligation to watch, and the Captain Marvel movie was the only thing that sparked my interest again. And then Endgame massively dropped the ball as far as I’m concerned.

** there was some stuff at the very end that makes me wonder if there’re plans to still bring her back in a later movie. But it doesn’t change me call bullshit on everything that Infinity War/Endgame has done to her.

Full Avengers Infinity War Review (Broken down into spoiler free, mildly spoilerish, and extremely spoiltt[after the page break dw] sections)

Spoiler-Free:

Initial thoughts: what. the absolute. fuck. How can one movie tear my soul apart like this?? And the end credit scene?? Holy shit so many mixed emotions I’m having trouble processing this holy shit what the fuck

After calming down slightly: there has been a clear change in the tone of marvel movies as they moved from their angsty teen goth phase to their wine aunt I don’t give a fuck phase. I went into this film thinking the tonal shift between comic relief characters and more angsty characters would have been harsh and abrasive but for the most part it was actually very smooth, it gave us a more complex look at otherwise two dimensional characters and added a bit of lightness to an otherwise heavy film

The back and forth between different groups of characters till their inevitable union at the end was smooth and kept the plot moving forward at a reasonable pace

The pace was actually so fast, but not an unfollowable fast, it felt as if the movie somehow morphed time in our world, what felt like half an hour to me was actually the entire duration of the movie

And holy shit the lighting!! The cinematography!! The CGI!! It wasn’t dark and hardly viewable even on the big screen! There were so many beautifully lit scenes(albeit there were some murky dark scenes that reminded me of the old avanegers movies) they really took a page out of Thor Ragnorak and Black Panthers book because the fight scenes (of which there were many) were so incredible and dramatic and full of emotion!

But honestly, so much of it was shocking and unexpected that there were moments where it didn’t feel even remotely real in the out-of-body experience type of way.

Mildly spoilerish but no real details:

The trailer actually threw us some curve balls. I generally avoid trailers because I believe they give away too much but the few stills that I did see were actually very misleading and as I’m writing this I’m thinking that they might actually be hints to the events of Avengers 4????

There was so much loss, with such a huge cast and such a daunting and powerful villain (that was teased for like 13 movies) it was completely inevitable but each loss hit so hard it’s hard to process it. And there are characters that we still don’t know the fate of and it’s killing me that I have to wait an entire year for the next part.

Related side note: you know the Russo brothers are sick of mcu’s bullshit when a character literally says “no resurrection this time” after a death jfc I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time

FULL SPOILERS LIKE IM GONNA GO INTO SPECIFIC EVENTS OF THE MOVIE(be warned I get incoherent bc I’m still so emotional):

Holy. Shit. Literally wide cut to the opening scene where thanos has literally murdered HALF OF ASGARD and in the first five minutes he’s murdered Loki (see: above reference to no resurrection) and heimdall (there goes MatPats theory about the soul stone) I’ve never had a movie shake me to my core this quickly. Before heimdall dies he uses his final moments to send hulk back to earth where he spends the rest of the movie as banner bc hulk is throwing a teenage temper tantrum and banner has erectile dishulktion like bitch get your shit together when did hulk become poorly timed comic relief.

Skipping forward a bit because I’m not gonna recap the entire movie; when the guardians find Thor in the wreckage of the asgardian ship it was honestly the best thing ever. Drac literally describes Thor as a cross between an angel and a pirate all while fat shaming quill oh my god it was amazing and I’m so incredibly sad we lost him

SPEAKING OF HEARTBREAKING DEATHS PETER PARKER YOU FUCKING ASSHOLE!!!

The way he clings to tony at the end and just keeps saying he doesn’t want to go oh my god that absolutely broke me

And then there were the simpler deaths like Bucky who just says “Steve” EHICH IM PRETTY SURE THIS IS THE FIRST TIME HE SAYS STEVE SINCE BECOMING THE WINTERSOLDIER HOLY SHIT MY EMOTIONS

Holy shit I can’t explain in words to you the emotions I felt when t’challa reaches for Okoye and says “this is no place to die” then his hand just crumbles away along with the rest of him and the rest of my heart (SIDE NOTE BLACK PANTHER DID SO WELL IN THE BOX OFFICE HOW THE HELL ARE YOU GONNA KILL OFF THE LEAD?? DOES THIS MEAN NO BLACK PANTHER 2??)

and dear god help me the end credit scene how the hell are you gonna kill off Maria Hill and Nick Fury in the fucking END CREDITS???

There was literally a collective gasp in my theatre as Fury started fading away

Buttt the captain marvel reference at the very end!!! Our girl carol danvers is gonna be in the next avengers!! (We need her they killed off so many female characters lord give me strength to overcome this adversity in the face of lack of diversity)

OkAy coming back from all the death let’s talk about the fact that throughout the film Thor calls Rocket “rabbit” and never once gets corrected??? It was honestly one of my favourite things

And Thor trying to relate to Gamoras fucked up family by telling her about his and quill getting jealous it was so cute I loved their dynamic.

Vision and Wanda’s relationship felt so natural, their chemistry was fucking fantastic and their final scene together where Wanda gave in to the inevitable and had to destroy the mind stone and vision along with it holy shit that entire scene was so incredibly heart breaking with the way vision kept saying it’s alright over and over again till his final moments. They had a chance to be a normal couple living happily in Scotland away from everything, they could had had it all and it was torn from them so savagely.

And as I’m writing this I’m realizing that none of this makes sense. How could they kill off half the cast especially so many fan favourites and so many characters whose contracts don’t expire anytime soon?? So on tooo:

Theories:

Okay so why would doctor strange give thanos the time stone in exchange for Tony’s life? Why would he give up the thing that he has sworn his life to protecting and essentially sentence billions of beings to save the life of one that was not guaranteed to survive? None of that makes sense unless the one out of 14 million alternate futures he saw involved all of this happening and then somehow being reversed??

At the end of the movie we see a burnt out gauntlet implying that it can no longer be used but what if the individual stones can still be used? What if they’re still able to turn back time and bring back those they’ve lost?

This theories got a bunch of holes and it definitely wouldn’t make sense to bring back the entire roster but after a quick google search Holland, Pratt and the rest of the guardians, Boseman, and Cumberbatch all have marvel movies coming out in the next few years so really nothing is real death is a lie and I feel nothing 🙃 .

I am going to speculate the entire plot of infinity war with all the set pics and rumours we have heard so far. Please feel free to add in missing points. This is what I think is gonna happen:

Both Stephen strange and vision have been attacked by some kind of alien intruders. This can be seen from the set pics and footage of vision being whisked off by cgi ninja-like creatures. The same ninja aliens can be seen in the recent set pics of Stephen strange as well. I suspect that these ninja aliens are Thanos' black order, whom he has sent from the cosmos to collect the infinity stones for him ONCE AND FOR ALL. The only thing Stephen and vision have in common is that they both possess the powers of an infinity stone, thus the black order is seen attacking them for their stones in these shots. Before vision is kidnapped, wanda maximoff was sighted with him, so when someone reportedly heard Wanda scream of "NO! LET HIM GO!" on the set, so we can assume that the black order must have succeeded in apprehending vision and collecting the mind stone. It's not confirmed yet, but judging by the way doctor strange is clutching his amulet of agamotto, I can only speculate that the black order must have succeeded in retrieving the time stone as well. Tony stark and Bruce banner seem evidently unscathed, thus I suspect they only arrived after the invasion occurred and are simply analysing the remains of the ordeal along with their new-found sorcerer allies. And then we have our friends in wakanda. So far natasha, tchalla and Steve have been confirmed to be in wakanda, and I highly doubt bucky has moved very far from his miserable refrigerator, so he's probably still in the country as well. God only knows how the fuck natasha managed to end up in wakanda (I mean, as the most hidden and advanced city in the world, I don't think even natasha could track it down with her killer spy skillset), im guessing someone went to find her instead (HOPING ITS BUCKY BC I MEAN ITS NATASHA ROMANOFF WE'RE TALKING ABT, AND SINCE BUCKY TRAINED HER, HES THE ONLY ONE WITH SHARED LIFE EXPERIENCE AND KNOWS HOW SHE WORKS). Scarlett Johansson was spotted filming near where vision was taken, so I have a feeling natasha (and maybe Steve?) would have heard about the invasion and brought poor devastated Wanda back to wakanda. Then there would be discussions and stuff about the aliens and why they attacked and who they were serving, so as of now, they don't know who Thanos is yet. Then come the cosmic heroes. Something on wakanda's radar picks up an unidentified flying object landing the borders of the city. Tchalla and Steve and everyone think it's the aliens again, but its actually the guardians of the galaxy. (Here we presume that there will be flashbacks or sth where we somehow get to see how the following happens) they heard that orb has been forcefully stolen from the Nova core and the reality stone was taken from the collector, who is most likely killed in the process. Gamora thinks that Thanos is behind this and is one of the few ppl in the galaxy who knows about the infinity gauntlet. They decide to go to earth to check on the rest of the infinity stones after they hear that two of which are there. They coincidentally land near to wakanda (cue emotional, nostalgic Peter Quill finally back on earth), and thats how steve, tchalla and friends found them. Both teams agree to join forces after gamora confirms her theory about the infinity gauntlet. She's also very concerned about her sister nebula, who was last seen vowing to kill Thanos by herself. Tony Stark, on the other hand, has also figured out as much as the fact that someone out in space wants all the infinity stones. Back to earth come Thor and Loki, another two individuals who are very well aware of Thanos' schemes (especially Loki). Thor finds Tony's side first (he would want to warn Steve as well, but wakanda, as I've said, is impossible to track) and warns him about the impending danger, and admits that the tesseract was also stolen from Asgard by the black order. He also mentions the missing reality stone and the collector's death, since lady sif was the one who put it there for safekeeping in the first place. In wakanda right now we have Steve, tchalla, nat, Wanda, gotg and bucky if he's awake. If he isn't yet, now is the time for him to wake up, because Steve realises the impending threat that is coming and decides that they need all the help they can get. He brings back the old team cap, Sam, Sharon, Scott, Clint, and wakes bucky up, (THUS THE BEARD?!? BC ITS BEEN LIKE TWO YEARS IDEK) but the gotg insist that they need to get Tony back. Steve is slightly hesitant (bc of civil war) but agrees to try and negotiate with Tony (cue nervous, guilty bucky). Tony's side is getting very anxious bc they lack manpower. Tony rung up his old team as well but since vision and tchalla are gone there's a huge shortage of fighters. There's literally just Tony, Rhodey, Peter Parker (I'm going to assume he proved himself worthy of handling lethal threats after Spiderman: homecoming) Bruce, Thor, and Loki. Then Steve calls Tony and both are surprised they know as much about the black order attacks as the other. They eventually agree to fight together one last time, but only for the sake of all the innocent lives in the galaxy. And thats the end of my crappy plot speculation. We don't have confirmation on where the soul stone is yet, although a lot of ppl think it's with heimdall, its not confirmed. So I can't talk about that part yet. Once again, feel free to add lil details you wanna see in the movie, like lil bits of dialogue or maybe rocket requesting for Bucky's arm to complete a plan (OK but what if it's legit tho like what if he really needed an arm for the plan, and innocent child Bucky just goes "no, you cant have this one, but I do have an old spare one from my winter soldier days. Will that work?"). But yeah also go ahead and play around with this plot, butcher it, write a fanfic to it, tweak it, add stuff, take out stuff, kill off more ppl, develop more ideas from it etc. I don't think the movie might be this way but that's okAY bc I have higher expectations for it lmao I'm gonna die
