It's wild to me how ridiculously expensive it is to live in the US on your own. You have to have a roommate or a live-in partner to split bills (both of which I've tried and it always ends terribly). The only way you can live on your own and not live paycheck to paycheck is if you have a high paying job. And those don't hire often, and when they do, they're super picky.
Not to mention even getting a job that isn't retail-based is its own form of Hell. Between recruiters/companies ghosting job applicants, AI resume picking bots trained to toss out "ethnic" sounding names and cherry picking keywords, & redundant application processes (you apply on LinkedIn, only to be redirected to another website to submit your resume, only to find out that you still have to manually input your entire resume), what are we supposed to do? How is anyone supposed to survive like this?

I need job interview advice. I have 2 next week. 1 is for the municipal court system where I live. The other is a retail backup job that’s gonna have to just be a little money for right now.
But I could use any advice you’ve got for the neurospicy.

Ask A Recruiter
A new series I'm doing! Hi! I'm Rin, I'm a Recruiter. A recruiter is someone who manages the hiring process for a job role. They seek out new candidates by sourcing, networking, and attending hiring events. Additionally, they review applications that come in for a job posting, filter through candidates, conduct screenings, sit-in on interviews, and create/extend offers of employment. What makes us different from the rest of the HR department is that Talent Acquisition (Recruiting) is our sole job-focus. I've been in recruiting for 8 years now. While most of my time has been focused on IT recruiting, I've recruited all sorts of positions from entry-level production to sr. director roles. I love what I do (it's one of my Special Interests even!) but I also recognize there's a bit of confusion about the hiring process here in the US that might need some clearing up. So go ahead, reply to this message, shoot me one to my ask box and I'll do my best to answer your questions!

Anyone have any ideas for accommodations and stuff for a job like vet assistant or stable hand or dog training or if it would even be possible to accommodate me with the jobs I want? I'm not sure working would work out for us but I really would like to work with horses or other animals. We need to be reminded of a lot of stuff, we stim constantly (though when brushing horses it calms), we can't stand for long, we meltdown and I'm not sure if we would or wouldn't at the job, require ear defenders, we would need to be supervised at least with someone being in the same building and checking in on us often to remind what I should do but having someone in the same room telling us what to do is better, we can't speak, we would definitely only be able to work for a few hours and wouldn't be able to work everyday, we can't bend over or lift heavy things, would need to bring our service dog with us (dont have one yet), we also freeze up and unable to do anything but i think when im doing something and i know what and how to do it that it would happen less often during those times but it would still happen, not able to handle stuff like finances and math or stuff like scheduling

Genuine question:
So here's the thing, plain and simple: I want to start earning money while finishing up my career, but have no artistic skill. I enjoy making the occasional DnD Homebrew, so I could translate that into a slight little venture if anybody would be interested, as well as translations and writing help and checking typos for Spanish (Castilian) from English or the other way around. Maybe even writing some Humans are Space Orcs, if people would like! (NOTHING NSFW! Just covering my bases here...) I also handle a little Photoshop if that also helps... While I'm doing that would that be something you are all interested in? I know a lot of people get on that sort of thing here on Tumblr, so I thought I'd give it a go! What do you think is a good way to start? Ko-Fi? I would really appreciate some advice! Would a side-blog be better for this sort of thing...?

my coworker gave me a really good interview tip today btw and i'm gonna share it with y'all:
before going in for an interview, print out a copy of the job posting with the full description of the position and all the requirements. then take a highlighter and go through and highlight everything you have personal experience with, and then write notes to yourself on specific jobs/examples of how you fit those requirements.
this does two things. one, it can really help to visualize how many of those requirements you fit because I guarantee you it's probably more than you think, and two it helps prepare you for any questions regarding specific duties or experience. I did it and ended up with basically the whole thing highlighted which really surprised me.

Things have been chaotic.
It's been a while since i've posted anything personal on here but i am going through it.
Life has been stressful, crazy, chaotic and sad. It's been one thing after another and i don't know what else to do.
I got demoted at my job. I've been there ten years, we got a new owner last year and it has been fine up until recently. I am a loyal and hard worker but this job is draining me. I've been sick with strep, covid, had to have dental surgery and other health issues I haven't been seen or diagnosed for yet. My roomates up and dipped so i had to move back in with my parents and it is crowded as hell, and the house is falling apart. Life has been throwing shit at me and I am at my wits end.
I am also currently in a long distance relationship. He is the most wonderful, caring, funny and supportive person and he treats me right and i adore him. We are trying to figure out how to get me from the USA to Canada but it's a process. The information we've found isnt the best as far as figuring out what our actual options are. We've been trying to find someone that has gone through the vise/permanent resident process so we an see what they did and would recommend but no luck yet.
Along with my job demotion, i will be receiving a pay dock. Which i honestly cannot afford. I have bills to pay, credit cards to pay off and I am trying to save up so that I can move. I've been putting in job applications for the past two weeks but nothing has come of it yet. It's like places say they're hiring but no matter your availability or previous work background it doesn't matter, and they aren't actually hiring. It's weird. I've cut out all unecessary spending and am only paying for bills/insurance and food to eat and I am still financially struggling.
I'm trying to remain positive and hoping something will come out of it and i will get some good news soon but it's harder by the day. I'm constantly sad, stressed and anxious. I don't know what else to do.
If yall could send me all the good vibes. Or have any job ideas or recommendations. I've worked fast food and customer service for almost 11 years. I've done childcare and babysitting. House cleaning. I have a car and a license so i am able to drive to and from work etc. I'm willing to try pretty much anything. I am willing to learn new skills. I'm a quick learner once i know what to do.
also if anyone on here sees this, and knows anyone that has moved from the USA to Canada, through a work visa, or getting a job offer over there and then applying for a work visa or through express entry, or anything at all please please i would love to talk to them and ask some questions.
I know the chances of people actually reading this are small, but if you do, if you wouldn't mind sharing it, i would very much appreciate it.
If by some miracle anyone is able or would be willing to donate any extra funds at all, it would all be going to good use. It would be going to help my pay my bills, car insurance, health insurance and life needs.
my paypal is - paypal.me/kaptainkaffy

Okay, can someone explain this to me, please? I applied for a job at the IRS ("Revenue Officer", to be specific). The job announcement said to be eligible I needed 3 years of experience in the field OR a bachelor's degree in any field. I have a bachelor's, so I applied, and they said I wasn't qualified. I told them that's not what their announcement said, and they emailed me back and said I "lacked the required specialized experience and, therefore, were not eligible for the position and would not be referred." Am I reading something wrong, or is their HR department just stupid?
Here's the exact text from the announcement:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-05 LEVEL:
You must have three (3) years of general experience, one (1) year of which was at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. General experience for this position includes having a general knowledge and understanding of business and financial practices, and that demonstrated the ability to deal effectively with others. Examples of this experience may have been gained in work such as financial, accounting, purchasing, merchandising, investigative, civil or criminal law enforcement, data processing, or similar activities in commercial or government enterprises. It also may have been gained in work that provided knowledge of credit operations and practices related to the collection of delinquent accounts;
OR
Four (4) year course of study leading to a Bachelor's or higher degree in any field of study from an accredited college or university;
OR
Certificate as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) obtained through written examination or membership in the bar in State, territory or the District of Columbia;
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.
I mean, I'm pretty sure working as a cashier/assistant manager at a gas station for four years doesn't count as the kind of specialized experience that they're looking for, but I have a bachelor's degree in linguistics (which is definitely a field, the last time I checked), and I'm quite certain the University of Texas at Austin is accredited. Wouldn't you think that meets the requirements? America, explain!

Looking for a job in your creative field? Here are some helpful tips I’ve learned along the way as a video producer.
- Make sure your resume (cv) stands out. Find your brand and work it into your resume through colors, logo, and font. It’s typically the first thing the recruiter and hiring manager will see so make it a good first impression!
- Your resume should be a PDF! You’re creative and a word document won’t show that off.
- Put your website/portfolio link at the top of your resume and make it clickable and working!! I hate having to search through the resume for that link and it ends up not working or I have to copy and paste it. It might seem silly but it shows the employer that you pay attention to details.
- Working on your portfolio or demo reel? Editing yourself down to your best pieces is key. If you have a 5 minute demo reel I’m scrubbing through it. That sounds harsh but there are probably tons of other demo reels I have to get through.

I think I'm gonna have to start looking for a part-time/side job. I can thankfully pay my bills and rent, but not much else. My Sister was helping me with food, but now her family is having money troubles too.
I already work full-time and go to school online at night, does anyone have any recommendations of things I could do to get extra money here and there, possibly online?
I do online surveys, but I'm not always eligible for them so I don't make a lot from it.
I really hope after I get my Bachelor's degree I can get a better paying job; I'm tired of living paycheck to paycheck, and having to decide if I can buy medicine or food, or if I need money for gas to get to work.
And besides advice, if anyone can donate anything to help me out, I'd greatly appreciate it:

how do conservatives think talking to children works? if a four year old came up to me and said “i’m a cat!!” i would say “really? what makes you a cat?” and they’d say some shit like “i have claws >:)” and i’d be like “oh wow, you do have claws. but wait, i thought cats had pointed ears!” and they’d say “they DO!!!” and then i’d pull up a picture of an elf and ask “is THIS a cat?” and they’d yell “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO”
u wouldn’t say “fucking hell, Emily, get it together. this is the real world”

AU where Mr. D claiming to be Percy’s dad accidentally counts as Claiming according to Greek god law or whatever and now all the other gods legitimacy believe Percy is his son, but if Mr. D corrects it, he has to explain to Zeus why he pretended he was Percy’s dad so now he’s like “YEP ol’ Perry Johansson is MY child wowie just look at the little fry, you have your mother’s eyes. Please stop standing next to water or you will blow my cover”
Meanwhile Poseidon is just standing off to the side like “how on earth did I dodge THAT bullet”
