dear aditi from yjhd,

i understand and feel you completely today. you have always been my favourite among everyone. you knew it all, you accepted it and told bunny to not give up on his dreams, yet felt everything deep down. i sense something, today, the end.

this separation, from people i've known since childhood, my room, my neighbourhood, the air that surrounds me, seems to be fading away, every moment. my shoulders feel lighter, detached of something i don't want to let go. it's not like everyone is leaving today, but the realization that stabs me in the back drive these sudden waves of sadness through me.

they say this feeling is beautiful, you let go of things only to keep sweet memories to cherish forever. but is it okay that i feel terror in my heart, a fear of losing myself, this place, and an unwillingness to face what's next?

i have not had enough of it yet, there is so much more left, so many memories left to make, songs to be sung together, and late night conversations. i miss everything already.

i am so scared. growing up isn't beautiful after all.

i wish it could stay a little longer. just a little.

ban liya apna paigambar, tar liya tu saath samundar. fir bhi sukha mann ke andar kyu reh gaya? will forever hit hard when you think of how bunny never wanted "dal chawal for 50 saal". he never wanted commitment. he wanted to be free, he wanted to travel the world, and he did. he travelled overseas, he had his own show and he got successful all on his own. but even after achieving all that he could, there was a part of him which was empty, a part which longed for the friendships he left behind, the family he left behind, and the love he left behind.

so, at the end of the day, for him, it was always avi, aditi and naina. because after all, kuch logo ke saath waqt bitane se hi sab kuch thik ho jaata hai.

The fact that Kabira defines the situation of every ambitious kid, 'who left their warm home, family and friends to make their own name, even when they wanted to stay so badly. But they had to leave because their dreams were too big to fit in their comfort zone', is still intriguing for me.

You are the exact moment between the interval of "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" and the end of the New Year's countdown when Bunny realizes he's in love with Naina. You are the entire chorus of SubhanAllah, the symphony that has thousands in a chokehold. You are the feel-good mantra that reverberates within each echo of Kabira. You are the second of eureka when Naina finds a new person in herself, succumbing to the absence of her chashma. You are the very minute when Avi and Bunny hug each other after squarelling. The question “Where are you from?”  Just does not work with the third culture kids. We are not patriotic, we do not think that one culture is better than another, we do not think one country is the BEST, but we simply...

observe, breath in, learn from new culture, eat their cuisine, be thankful to be invited in their world. 

We are not here to show you how MY culture is better,  We are not here to show you how this Food is better than another,  We are not here to show you how we are better in GDP, Happiness index, Economics, Health care, work life balance We are Third culture kid, a citizen of the world. Our home is EARTH, not one country, one city and there is no one Norm. 

We respect, We listen, We eat and We observe. 

As my PhD is coming to an end and my internship starting in another country, I am starting to think that life is really about the journey, about the people you meet and truly living in the moment and getting the maximum of the opportunity we have.
