daydreaming about crown prince sirius and his brother prince regulus who are assigned personal guardsmen when regulus comes of age because the king and queen are concerned about their children being target of assassination attempts now that they can both claim the throne.

enter knights ser remus and ser james who are assigned to each brother, who are stationed at their doors every night and share the same chambers during their travels, to ensure no one could sneak through a window or a hidden door and hurt the princes.

the brothers are curious about their guardsmen; sirius a bit reluctant to lose his freedom (he doesn’t know what by the time he and remus are close enough he won’t feel the urge to make his way to a dodgy tavern outside of town to find someone who will make him feel because remus will be right there, and he is the best thing sirius could have ever imagined) and regulus is more visibly upset because james is a manifestation of the danger his brother is constantly in as crown prince (he doesn’t know that james would die for sirius just as much as he would for regulus, and he would stay by his side no matter how much regulus would try to push him away). all in all the brothers are distrusting and not immediately polite, hardened marble faces that betray no emotion, even when james makes regulus laugh once and warms his entire body like he has never felt before. even when remus doesn’t stop sirius from sneaking out of the castle, but goes with him to look at the stars and listens to his impromptu lecture on constellations.

it’s after a particularly aggressive ambush in a part of the woods they had not expected to be unsafe that everything tips. james and regulus had been separated early into the fight, but remus was already there, grabbing sirius by the sleeve to drag him close to his brother, handing them both knives and throwing himself into battle like a wild animal. sirius and regulus were frozen. they had trained in the art of battle for years, but being thrown out of their carriages in the middle of the night by ruthless vandals wasn’t covered in the fight procedures they had studied. a stray fighter got past remus, and sirius had already raised his arm, ready to do whatever he had to to keep regulus safe, when james was suddenly there.

he got rid of the man before either brother could blink, and then he was fighting along remus, quickly finishing off anyone that would dare come even slightly close to the princes. by the time they were safe, warm and dry in sirius’ rooms at the palace, the brothers realised there was not a single scratch on them. not only had ser remus and ser james reacted so quickly to the ambush, they hadn’t let anyone get a scratch on them, while both knights were currently sporting black eyes, burst lips and even one bloody eyebrow on james that made regulus feel a particular kind of way.

and it was the realisation that he and sirius were safe that did it. before regulus was thinking, he was heading down to his own chambers where he knew ser james was positioned, not without sending ser remus into sirius’ room, knowing his brother better than he even knew himself in that moment.

marble exteriors came crashing down in kisses and careful embraces, cleaning up wounds and promising reciprocal devotion. because what were princes without loyalty, and what were sirius and regulus without desiring love from the people they know will keep them safe.

remus and james knew they would gladly spend their lives making the princes not only safe, but immensely, undeniably, maddeningly happy.

aaaand they lived happily ever after.

Sirius and James starting school together as little kids they’re not friends at first they’re both kinda loners because sirius is taught not to mingle with the lower class and none of the kids really like James because he’s too loud and weird and annoying and then one day they’re doing colouring as a class and the teacher is distracted and James asks one student at his table to borrow the red crayon and the kid tells him no and calls him four eyes and Sirius overhears this and just decks him. He just decks that kid right in the face (because he saw his drunk uncles getting into fistfights after they called eachother mean names) and of course he gets in a Lot of trouble but from that day on James thinks sirius is his hero and starts to follow him around and at first he rolls his eyes about it because he knows James is lower class but then he realises James is very cool and funny and kind and has great ideas for games on the playground and likes lots of the same movies that sirius likes and so they become the ultimate besties

(Me trying to explain that Tom Riddle's journey at Hogwarts is literally the twisted version of Harry's journey)

We all know that both of them are orphans, had a rough childhood and both found solace in Hogwarts. However, their time at Hogwarts parallel eachother, but one of them is literally the twisted version of the other's journey.

When Harry goes to Hogwarts for the first time, he has immediately got the attention of Dumbledore in an affectionate, mentor-like way. Meanwhile, when Dumbledore visits tom in the orphanage, he doesn't trust him and always observes him from afar.

Because of that, Harry cares for Dumbledore while Tom loathes him.

Another noticeable parallel is that Harry always has friends and people who care for him surrounding him, and he enjoys every part of it. On the other side, Tom never cared about his Knights of Walpurgis, nor did he ever have an actual friend (since the Knights probably saw him more of a leader than a friend).

Tom and Slughorn's dynamic is quite literally the dark version of Harry and Dumbledore's dynamic. Dumbledore "manipulates" Harry but it's for the boy's well-being, meanwhile Tom manipulates Slughorn by getting information out of him to use it for dark means.

Some other thing I noticed is that in OOTP, Harry gets called a liar because the government doesn't want to believe Lord Voldemort has returned, on the other hand, Tom is congratulated for (supposedly) finding the culprit who opened the Chamber of Secrets, even though he framed Hagrid and was actually the one who killed Myrtle.

After Hogwarts, Harry goes on to become an auror, while Tom becomes the most dangerous dark wizard in modern history.

"James?" You called, slightly wary, as you advanced through the corridor, inching towards the balcony. "Are you there?" Your voice was quiet, but you winced at the loud clacking of your footsteps, your heels clicking on the stone floors of the Palace.

The knight popped out from behind the wall, a wide grin forming on his lips when he noticed you waiting for him. "Princess," he greeted, a soft tone in his voice; one that was reserved solely for you.

He was quick to wrap you up in his embrace, hand coming up to cup your head and scratch at your scalp. You breathed in, nose pressed against his chest. He smelled like the metal of his armour, a hint of his cologne, and his natural musky scent.

"You holding up okay?" His murmur was barely audible against the soft whoosh of the wind as it flew past the two of you. You knew why he was asking: Your mother had somehow received intel that you were sneaking around with someone, yet she did not know with whom. She'd been in an awful mood lately, and you were at the centre of it. Luckily, your father had acted as a mediator; which was ironic. "Anything new?" James sounded hopeful.

You shook your head, and James felt the movement rather than heard it. "Nothing new," you whispered, a burning at the back of your throat. You pressed yourself deeper into him, into the safe spot that was his chest. "Sorry," you added, although you were completely blameless. "I never wanted to hide this," you motioned between the two of you, pulling away slightly to look him in the eyes. "I love you, James, and I want the world to know it."

His eyes softened. "Oh, angel," he cooed, watching your eyes fill with unshed tears, "I love you, too. Always have, always will." He pressed a kiss to your forehead. James's eyes continued to keep a vigilant watch over your head, making sure the two of you were out of sight.

Then he returned his attention to you, his priority. "Baby, you know if you were anyone else, I would have proclaimed my love for you to everyone I knew. You're special. Unlike anyone I've ever met before." He paused for a second, making sure you met his eyes. "I know that's not possible, and that's okay. As long as I have you, I don't need anything else."

The tears that had been pooling at your waterline spilled, drops staining your cheeks as he moved to wipe them with his thumb, catching them as they fell. "Are you sure?" You managed, your voice wavering. "You could have a better life. You wouldn't have to sneak around until my parents finally get over the fact that I'm in love with a knight." You paused to sniffle wetly, and James's heart cracked in two. You could have anyone else, and you choose me, James?"

He smiled. "Of course I choose you, sweetheart. I would be an idiot not to."
