Midterm Pride Flag
Tumblr media
Midterm (slang): someone halfway between stages, phases, or states of sexuality, orientation, gender, presentation, identity or sex.
In Brazil, it's very common to use "meio-termo" referring to pluralians (bi/pan/ply/omni/tri/multi), cuspers/evenics (of any kind), transitioners and androgynous people, serial monogamists (and some non-monoamorous people) whose gender of partners varies (multipartnering), GNC/PNC, acespec/arospec, multigender/agender or otherwise non-binary people, and many others.
Therefore it can be a reclaimed term.

I've talked abt this before but I wanna clean it up a little bit... I think the way a lot of, and pardon my usage here, The White Gays(tm) talk about "cultural appropriation" within The Community is wholly performative and displays, in my opinion, not a willingness to Respect the cultural contributions made and still being made by Black and Latino gay and trans people but to distance themselves from it as much as possible under the guise of, idk, "sitting my white ass down and listening". In general there's always a point Cultural Appropriation Discourse reaches where it just starts to become "white people should only ever do White People Things, any participation by white people in something deemed NOT a White Person Thing is in some way degrading or humiliating and Wrong" which is not something I'm fond of. Personally I just do not find the complete separation of "the white gays" from "all the rest of us" to be particularly politically useful and it certainly does not make my culture feel respected I can tell you that much

Question for fellow Brazilians
Because my mom is unsure if she's still hip with the kids in knowing the right slang -- is the Portuguese word for a masculine lesbian still sapatão? (the English equivalent would be "butch" if that helps)

Random fact: during the 40 punk was slang for ‘an effeminate gay man, or the younger partner in a homosexual relationship’. To simplify its kinda like the World War Two version of twink.
Anyway here’s a completely unrelated scene form Captain America the First Avenger:

If you want Hob Gadling, a man who lived through the entire history of Polari slang, to be out there throwing around "duck/ducky" in public like he's Ralph fucking Filthy, then I can't stop you, but for god's sake I am begging you to just have a little look-see into the etymology of the word in the 20th century before you do it

solidarity is for white people
i don't blame qpocs for feeling ostracized and alienated from the lgbt/queer community, especially when the most vocal of us are white, benefit from racism, and a lot of us even weaponize our whiteness
we are never going to stand as a unionized front against our cishetallo oppressors as long as there are intercommunity issues between our different sexualities and genders, and races. and especially not when there are so called queer factions within the queer community who hate intersectionality with everything they have.
we can't just put aside our issues and "focus on the bigger picture" when so many of us treat qpocs like shit for having vastly different experiences and presentations than white queers. we NEED to start listening to their needs and wants before we white people focus on our own, whether that's smaller issues or bigger ones that keep us from being truly intersectional.
and yes this includes slur discourse. ._.

I definitely understand and appreciate the push to recognize some (not all, but some) of what is positioned as "Gen Z slang" or "stan Twitter slang" as actually originating from AAVE, but can white people stop pretending like The White Gays (tm) aren't allowed to say "slay" or whatever. Idk it just feels So completely hollow and performative like you're not actually getting anything even remotely important done and I, personally, in my opinion, think an actual recognition and appreciation of historical Black and Hispanic contributions to gay culture wouldn't involve this level of distancing. Once again cultural appropriation discourse leads to white people saying "white people should only partake in and engage with things from white culture" and thinking they said something socially just

Trying to write smut is impossible. You either have to find ways to write cock, dick, and member without getting repetitive or you have to use some goofy-ass slang.
Like yes, of course. It's so sexy when I type out "He looked at the other man's hotdog before slurping it down like he's at the county fair." Or when I type some shit like "He shoved his one-eyed trouser snake into her sleeping bag like the old west." And that's not even scratching the surface when there's slang like ding-a-ling, winkle, weenie, and willy.
Like bros, romans, lend me your ears. We need to come together and come up with more sexy terms for the equipment so we can write better gay porn.

my doordash was just delivered by the most profoundly beautiful bear*. his eyes were so kind and his physique was strong and gentle. i will never meet him again, but oh what a blessing it was to meet him.
(note*: "Bear" in this context does not refer to the forest-dwelling mammal belonging to the "Ursus" family, and is instead being used as the LGBT slang for a large, hairy man. i'm clarifying this so none of you dickheads can make the obvious "i thought you meant the animal!" joke and take this moment away from my gorgeous doordasher. this is his moment.)

Finding out that friends who speak languages you do not speak have the same idioms and slang is a very heartwarming feeling.
For example, it turns out that "coming out" means the same in both Japanese and English!
