Batfam Headcannon #8

Most of Bruce’s kids don’t call him “Dad”. On special occasions they do, and it’s always sincere.

But sometimes, when they want something badly, or try to get off the hook because of something they did, they will call Bruce “daddy” in their preferred and/ or native language.

Examples:

Damian: I found this kitten in a box, abandoned. Can we please keep him, Baba?

Jason: I swear that explosion wasn’t caused by me! Papi, do you think I would cause an explosion and not be proud of it? *he totally did it, but he’s on thin ice with how many he’s caused*

Tim: No, Papa! Please give me my coffee back, it’s only the first cup today! *it’s definitely not*

Casa: *ASL* Please don’t make me go to that Gala, Daddy, please!

Dick: Tati, can you please take a break and watch a movie with me? *Bruce is hurt and needs a break, but he’ll try his damn best to spend time with his kids*

And Bruce knows what his kids are doing, but he doesn’t care because they used such a loving nickname for him. He’ll let them get away with murder anytime if they simply use it. He’s a weak man for his children’s love and affection.

P.S. I hc Tim as French. Just to make it clear bc Papa translates as “daddy” or “dad” in English. Jason used “Papi” ‘cause it’s the Spanish word for “Daddy”. Just to clear up any confusion.

P.P.S. “Papá” is Spanish for “Dad”. I love my native language, but without the accent on the a, it means potato. Accents are awesome lol.

Lucifer picked her name. Mostly she just goes by Ellie, but Lucifer and Diavolo use her full name 90% of the time

By human realm standards she'd very likely be autistic but that's complicated bc she's half demon and I still have no idea if demons in this universe are just naturally predisposed to having traits that read as neurodivergent from a human perspective--

Either way she gets Numerous traits from both parents

Much like her father she's Incredibly particular about a lot of things (especially how she presents herself) and is very routine oriented

She got an equal amount of pride and stubbornness from both parents and has ofc inherited their shared reluctance in asking for help. She will try and fail at something at least three times on principle, before requesting assistance in as dignified a manner as a toddler can manage.

She has a large vocabulary and generally stoic demeanor along with a relatively flat way of speaking that makes talking with her a pretty novel experience. She will explain to you in immense detail the plot of her favorite kid's show or the intricacies of the worlds and characters she creates when playing with her toys like it's the most complex and serious topic imaginable.

Has basically everyone wrapped around her conniving little finger and she's not even trying. She is blunt and incredibly scheming for a toddler and Everyone has a soft spot for her, Especially her father, and she is fully aware how easily she can get away with things. This could come back to bite everyone in the ass but for now she's too adorable to fix it lmao

Gotham City Spirit

So in DC it's canon that some cities have living spirits. Manifestations of the cities themselves. And Gotham, I think, should have one. Gotham is cursed. Very cursed. There's also a Lazarus pit below it, a few buried temples to fifth dimensional beings and gods. And Arkham has been built over a site to a portal of hell, and then there was a second one opened there as well.

Gotham, I think, is a very old spirit. With how cursed the city is, much like the denizens, they're always fighting. Each night they battle curses and rip apart intrusions. One would think they're strength is waning, but they're actually very powerful. The issue is that most of that power is used to defend the city, and to shelter their knights when the sun goes down. Gotham is the grizzled warrior of the cities, starting to form far before the city became Gotham. And while at first it looks human, the longer one looks at its form the less that seems true.

Some of my favorite details:

The pauldron on their shoulder has patterns in the colors of the vigilantes

The outside of the cloak has a faded brick pattern similar to the buildings

There's several eyes, thorns, and feathers emerging from beneath the bandages & wounds, influenced by the Rogues

They did not have a long cloak until Batman took to the streets

Patches of their skin fades to gray like a corpse while the rest is the warmth of a body still living

Yes, those boots are in fact thigh-high (also matches Bats)

I like to think that a city's abilities are influenced by the people living there. For example Gotham may use a blade from olden times, but they may also start spewing spores or fear gas too. It's an odd abomination of modern and ancient, ever changing and adapting to their people.

That fic about Dellinger I wrote...

I find it wild that people still enjoy my fic Thicker than Blood after all these years, like, let’s be real Dellinger’s relevance is preeetttyyy limited. Honestly it’s wild that people still read it, it has the sort of longevity that I wish my fics about Alvida had.

The title was originally going to be Thicker than Water (cause like, Dell is a fish?) because the actual turn of phrase is “The blood of the covenant is thicker than the water of the womb” but people misquote it to be Thicker than Blood, butttttt the more I wrote the more I really started hitting the blood imagery pretty hard, blood as a metaphor for family ties or lack thereof, blood as a metaphor for otherness and exclusion, blood as a marker of difference, blood as nourishment, blood as strength, blood -
