I'd like to hear about Baby Scares!!

Hello and thank you for the ask!

I will be 100% honest with you, "Baby Scares" essentially is just crack. It was an idea proposed by the wonderful @here-comes-the-moose a few months ago, and since then we've been bouncing ideas centered around it that I've been collecting to write a one-shot about.

Baby Scares

Was essentially born from the fact that (through no fault of his own, or little fault of his own) Tay'kaa is a bit of an idiot

Now pair that with the fact that he's unfamiliar with human biology (he was never with anyone of the male human species long enough to learn) and Crosshair has stomach issues and you get: Tay seeing Crosshair being cranky, bloated, and clutching his abdomen after a dinner with the others and then jumping to the conclusion that Crosshair must be pregnant.

Sprinkle in some Tech being a menace and stirring shit up - because Tay doesn't know what to do and since Tech is smart and Phee's already been pregnant, Tay goes to him for help.

Of course, Tech "helps" by messing with Tay and going along with it, further convincing Tay and freaking him out

Keep in mind, Chagrian species don't really eat and will only eat the bare minimum of like calories and nutrients needed since everything they eat tastes bitter to them as they get older - so Tay has no idea what bloating is or anything

It's just a whole chaotic mess of Tay panicking because "holy shit, Echo is going to kill me if he finds out" and "I'm not ready to be a dad" with Tech being a little shit to his future brother-in-law and Crosshair being completely oblivious but also concerned/confused at how weird Tay is being

Eventually it all works out in the end though, once Crosshair finds out what's going on - Tech gets an earful from Crosshair and Tay gets a lesson in biology and learns to never ask Tech for help again

It's a silly little, miscommunication/misunderstanding between two different species that I thought was really funny. I wrote about a page of it to start things off but hadn't gone back to it, lmao.

And omg that's so cool that your dad is a scriptwriter too! He probably can give you better tips, lol, but there's a good amount of stuff online in terms of learning how to format a screenplay.

Studiobinder is a great website that I frequently reference for help with writing, formatting rules, reading published scripts, or just anything dealing with screenwriting in general. It also has a screenwriting software that you can use to write and manage your scripts! I used it at the beginning of college (it was the only software I was aware of) but I don't really use it anymore.

Another free software I used is WriterDuet! It's pretty good, all things considered, and it's got pretty much all you'll need to write a script! I wrote a pilot episode for a TV show and like 80% of a feature film on it with no problem. The only thing is that the free trial only lets you have like 3 documents 😭so I could only write so much.

The software I use right now is Final Draft! It's industry standard so it's got everything. It's pricey though, but you can get a free trial! I was able to get one through my school, but I think you can sign up for one. Right now, it seems like it's 30 days but I somehow managed to get like a year-round one?? I'm not actually sure how I did that-

As for formatting tips, there's a super quick like,, lesson (?) underneath the cut! And I hope you don't mind, but I translated what you had written into the format to help you see how the formatting would work!

Also I wasn't sure if by formatting you meant like screenplay format or story format or something else, but I went with the former. So if it's anything else, let me know and my apologies if so!

Sluglines:

- Introduce your scene and are in all caps - FORMULA: [EXT/INT]. (SETTING) - (TIME) - EXT. = Exterior settings // INT. = Interior Settings - TIME is typically either "DAY" or "NIGHT" but sometimes you can get into specifics like "MORNING"/"AFTERNOON"/"EVENING" and so on - Additionally, if a scene is happening right after the other, you could put "CONTINUOUS" instead of writing "DAY" again - When you have a scene that takes place somewhere with multiple rooms (EX: An apartment), you can specify the room by adding it between (SETTING) & (TIME) - For Example: INT. APARTMENT SPACE - BEDROOM - DAY

Action Lines:

- Action lines are where all the action, descriptions, blocking, set dressing, etc happen - Traditionally, action lines are written in the present tense with active verbs. - In the action lines sometimes writers will capitalize SOUNDS or important PROPS to emphasize or draw attention to them - this is a writing style choice (I personally love to capitalize sounds) - Try to avoid having big chunks of action lines - they're typically no longer than four or five sentences - The general rule is that every time you picture the camera shot changes, you create a new paragraph (aka line breaks) - Additionally, I've been taught not to put things in the action lines such as "we see" or state something about the camera doing something (zooming in, panning out, cutting to, etc...) - SHOW don't TELL basically - You will also introduce your CHARACTERS in the action lines as well

Character Intros:

- As mentioned before, character intros happen in the action lines - The first time a character is introduced, their NAMES are capitalized and followed by their age (typically in parenthesis) and/or a little description about them (could be physical but I've been told to lean more into personality because having a set physical description messes with casting, but that's not an issue for this particular project) - For Example: SILCO (40s), lanky in stature and sharp in his face and mind, rolls his eyes and scoffs. - After you initially capitalize their name, you don't have to do so anymore in other action lines - Additionally, you want to make sure you introduce a character in the action line BEFORE they have a speaking line - this is just for the production team's sake to know who's present in the scene - Even BACKGROUND people's names/groups are capitalized (so like: CROWD, PATRONS, TOWNSFOLK and so on would be capitalized in your action lines) - If we're seeing someone for the first time, their name is capitalized

Dialogue:

- My favorite part of the script! - The writing software will make this bit of formatting easy, but it's always indented as shown in the screenshots, and the names are always capitalized (again, something a writing software will do for you) - Sometimes additional text will follow the character name in parentheses such as: - (V.O) = "voice over" <- this is typically for narration - (O.S) = "off-screen" <- this is for when a character is in a scene but isn't in frame - (CONT'D) = "continued" <- typically the software will add this for you if a character speaks again after an action line - You can also use parentheticals (softwares will have a way for you to add them properly) for when you need an actor to do something specific with the line delivery or other - For Example: (sarcastically), (shouting), (between sobs), (shrugging) - Use them sparingly though - sometimes you can put it in an action line prior to the dialogue, you can use italics to emphasize words, or you can put the dialogue in all caps if the character is shouting or other

Other Tips:

MONTAGES - there are several different ways to do these (the way I did it in the script example is my own personal way of doing them), but typically you make note of having a montage in the action lines TITLE CARDS - also are different ways of superimposing text on the screen that you can find online (I personally don't use this a lot so I don't honestly know the "right" way to do it, tbh) BEATS/PAUSES - again, try to show and not tell, but you can definitely just have "a beat" in your action line if you need to either describe a silence or break up some dialogue. However, I've been instructed by professors to put some kind of action instead (For Example: "Vander shifts uncomfortably and glances away" instead of "A beat."). Helps you seem like a better writer, I guess, but it also gives the actors/characters something to do - Read other scripts to see how they format things! For this one specifically, see how Arcane writes its scripts! Try and find PDFs or anything online that might showcase how they go about their formats because different shows will have different formats (For example: Bob's Burgers double spaces all their text for some reason). If you're writing in hopes of sending it to Riot, copying their formatting will definitely benefit you. - But for the most part, the rules for formatting are pretty much the same across the board (Slugline formula, capitalizing character intros, indenting dialogue, having action lines, etc..) it's just depending on either the writer or the show, they might have a different style

ALSO!

I'm so sorry, I'm realizing this now as I'm writing this, but this is a TV SCRIPT so it'll have ACT BREAKS.

Most of the time, TV Shows will specify the beginning and end of an act with "ACT [#]"/"END OF ACT [#]" and there will be a way to do this on a screenwriting software.

They're typically just in the middle of the page, in all caps, bold, and underlined.

Additionally, TV shows also either have a TEASER at the beginning or a COLD OPEN.

This particular script seems like it has a teaser, with what seems to be a flashback, so you would make note of that the same way you'd make note of the acts (of which a TV show usually has four/five of).

Hello! I just came off of having a cold, so I hope I stay healthy lol. But I hope you are healthy too dear anon! 🩵 Sorry it took so long to answer! This is such a cute question! I'd been meaning to do little doodles of them calling each other nicknames so here ya go!

Hunter's not really one for nicknames, so he rarely uses them and Jung really only uses a few as well since he doesn't speak much

Echo and Viram enjoy using sweeter nicknames for each other, with Viram using a few ridiculous ones that make Echo laugh every time she calls him one of them

Wrecker and Khea uses nicknames for each other constantly - sweet, endearing, cringey, silly - they use them all because it's fun but also because Khea is someone who is constantly using nicknames for everyone and anyone

Phee is like Khea where she is constantly using nicknames, but the ones for Tech are special and sweet - meanwhile, Tech typically uses very romantic and charming nicknames for Phee like some kind of Victorian lover

Crosshair thinks pet names are kinda stupid so he doesn't like using them - instead he'll use insults (affectionately sometimes) for Tay, with him rarely calling him something like 'babe' - meanwhile, Tay loves using any and all nick/petnames for Crosshair

The nicknames included are both in universe and in a modern setting!

Hunter calls Jung:

Cyare - 'beloved' in Mando'a because Jung is his beloved Taku taupuhi - 'darling/my chosen' one in Māori because he chose Jung to be his partner in the special dynamic they have

Jung calls Hunter:

Darling - because Jung likes the regal politeness of it Hun - short for "Hunter" and a play on words of 'Hon' (which is short for 'Honey') 여보 - means 'honey/sweetheart' in Korean

Echo calls Viram:

Cyar’ika, Love - sweet words of endearment to show how much he loves Viram E ipo - means 'darling' in Māori Taku whaiāipo - means 'my sweetheart' in Māori Nectarine - because Viram reminds Echo of a nectarine (sweet and colorful)

Viram calls Echo:

Love/Honey - sweet words of endearment to show how much she loves Echo Snookums/Cutiepie - silly words of endearment she uses to make Echo laugh Querido - means 'dear' in Portuguese Meu eco - means 'my echo' in Portuguese (because that's what he is)

Wrecker calls Khea:

Mesh’la - means 'beautiful' in Mando'a because Wrecker thinks she's beautiful and he knows she appreciates him using the language of her people Babe/Hon - classic terms of endearment he enjoys using Sunshine/Firecracker - cute nicknames that reflect her enthusiastic and hotheaded behavior Manu iti - means 'little bird/birdie' in Māori because she reminds him of a bird

Khea calls Wrecker:

Ori’cyare/Big Guy - reflecting on some obvious physical attributes of Wrecker, 'ori' means 'big' in Mando'a so she's calling him her 'big beloved/sweetheart' basically Ori’dral - akin to meaning 'big bright, powerful light' as 'ori' means 'big' and 'dral' means 'bright, glowing, strong, and/or powerful' to reflect on him being a guiding light and a source of strength to her Mi vida - 'my life' in Spanish because he's everything to her Mi corazón - 'my heart' in Spanish because he's her wants and desires Papí - basically 'daddy' in Spanish and she jokingly uses it 여보 - 'sweetheart/honey' in Korean

Tech calls Phee:

Honey, Beloved/My love/Darling - Tech loves using any and all super romantic and flowy words of endearment for Phee to show how much he cares and loves her Taku taonga - 'my treasure' in Māori because she's worth everything and more to him and because pirates

Phee calls Tech:

Brown Eyes - for obvious reasons we all know and love Babe/Dear - classic terms of endearment she likes to use because they never fail to make Tech smile Sweetcheeks/Pudding/Muffin/Cutiepie - silly terms of endearment that she loves to use because they make Tech blush and short-circuit

Crosshair calls Tay:

Idiot/Bastard - usually said with a scoff or roll of his eyes (Tay)-Babe - occasionally calls him the classic 'babe' name and will call him 'Tay-babe' either to get something he wants or because he's going, "Tay. Babe." after Tay says/does something stupid Taku whaiāipo - means 'sweetheart' in Māori because Tay is sweet to him but this is something he's only ever call Tay in private

Tay calls Crosshair:

Baby/Babe - classic terms of endearment that he uses a lot Hubby - after they get married, Tay uses this a lot just because he's grateful and proud to call Crosshair his husband Mi cielo - 'my darling/sky' in Spanish for reasons that can be found in this fic in the third chapter! Cariño - 'darling/honey/dear' in Spanish and something Tay likes using because he purrs it and Crosshair always blushes Literally any embarrassing pet name under the sun - Tay likes teasing Crosshair and will say anything to get him to blush or squirm

🩵 I see Charles proposing on a yacht during summer break. He’s shirtless in linen pants, sun setting over the water somewhere near Corsica or Bali. He’s so nervous, and gets emotional before you even say yes (because there’s no other answer).

💭 Lando’s would be intimate and personal, in a place that means something to both of you, because if he knows, he knows. But even though it’s spontaneous, he’s been planning it for months. He rambles, hands shaking a bit, cracks a joke mid-proposal, but ends with “I’m serious, though. I want you forever.”

🐨 Oscar is a quiet, private guy, so a secret engagement won’t surprise me. I see him doing it at home while you’re brushing your teeth or watching a movie. With him, it’s genuine and intentional. Also, he tells the family and close friends days later like “Oh yeah, by the way, we’re engaged.”

🦁 If he decides to do it, Max would be casual yet impulsive, but still deeply sincere. You’re both in sweats at home, probably playing FIFA or watching a docuseries about penguins idk. He looks over at you during a quiet moment and goes, “This is nice. Marry me?” Thing is, he doesn’t believe love needs theatrics.

🎀 I don’t know why, but the voices in my head scream that Isack would design a special helmet for it, and it would be subtle as hell. And he’d choose a night race for this.

🤍 Alex is sappy and sweet. Most likely during a getaway or on a vacation, but I won’t be surprised if he ends up involving his pets in it somehow.

🌶 Carlos would plan something traditional. I’m thinking candlelit dinner in Madrid, the best wine and view, and then he walks you to a balcony overlooking the city. His parents already know, and he has backup rings in case you want options.

🐻 Ollie would be very determined, however, extremely nervous. I’m thinking maybe on a weekend trip, when hiking or exploring a city. He brings the ring everywhere, just in case, and ends up proposing at an overlook after psyching himself up for hours, poor bear. Kisses your hand a hundred times and cries later alone.

🍰 Yuki would definitely hide the ring in a dish he cooked.

🧉 For all I know, Franco could ask you to marry him through an Instagram story.

🦒 Esteban would go for that Parisian-level romance, somewhere out on a rooftop. There’s violin music, a custom suit, and your initials engraved in a champagne glass. Nothing less.
