I'm sorry for the super long wait - real life has been kicking my butt - but I finally finished my bottom!Steve and Stony astrology essay! I hope it brings you as much happiness as writing it did me. 🥰

You do not have to know much about astrology to read this post. I think I explain everything. If something is confusing, please let me know!

The Basics: I am looking at Steve and Tony's synastry chart, which describes how their natal charts interact with each other. To learn about Natal charts see here, Synastry charts see here (since these are fictional characters, I'm not really worrying about orb size).

Thanks to my chronic health issues I don't have the energy to do a full synastry reading – this analysis is mostly conjunctions, and is focused on their romance/sexuality placements.

At least, it was, until I fell down several different rabbit holes. So... I hope this post makes sense and isn't one big incoherent ramble.

This is MCU based: Steve was born on July 4, 1918 in Brooklyn; while Tony was born on May 29, 1970 in Manhattan. I came up with their birth times.

The word Conjunction means that two planets/asteroids are right next to each other. They are in the same zodiac sign and (usually) house. Being so close together merges their energy – like the astrological version of a hug.

Relevant Asteroids:

Chiron

Juno

Eros

Alma

Asteroids are like mini planets, and have a specific meaning/purpose. Mars is usually associated with sex, but that's only a small part of it - it's also about primal instincts and drive. The astroid Eros, on the other hand, is just about sexuality - the Greek god Eros is where the word (and concept) of eroticism comes from.

While Venus tells you about what you're attracted to in love, Juno tells about the traits you need in a long-term partner – this is the astrological personification of want vs need. The asteroid Chiron tells you about the major soul wound you will be dealing with throughout your life. Alma tells you about your soulmate.

Tony's Gemini Sun is conjunct Steve's Venus, Juno, AND Eros!

Tony's Cancer Venus is conjunct Steve's Sun.

Tony's Capricorn Eros is opposite Steve's Cancer Sun.

Tony's Aries Moon, Chiron, Juno, and Alma is conjunct Steve's Chiron and Alma.

Now, let's go through this!

Steve's Eros in Gemini and 10th House:

Eros in Gemini says, “If you want me, talk to me!” Here Eros thrives on the interaction of ideas, and the intellectual stimulation found in sharing observations, data and little understood facts. He likes it known how well he comprehends a subject and how much he could teach about it. Eros in Gemini wants to hear the words, or receive little cards with messages of love, much more than he wants to get a box of chocolates or even a massage!

Gemini governs the realm of the mind, the known universe, its facts and fancies. When Eros dresses in this outfit, he seeks intimacy first through intellectual rapport and that usually means talking. Steve's Venus in Gemini and 10th House:

People with a Gemini Venus are very communicative people in their relationships, they are the type of people who could talk with their crush and/or significant other for hours on the phone or through texts. They love to tease and give nick names to their partner, anything that gives some sort of communication. They are attracted to people that are very witty and intelligent, they don’t care much for looks, they want someone who can stimulate them mentally and not physically, they care more about talking and mental stimulation than the physical aspects of relationships. Steve's Juno in Gemini and 10th House:

Juno in Gemini natives crave intellectual connection the most. It might sound cliché for a Gemini/Mercurian placement, but the truth is that no matter how attractive a person is, it won’t truly matter to a Juno in Gemini native unless the mental connection is there. I have personally met a couple people with this placement, and they have identified as sapiosexuals (or sapiophiles). They just find mental stimulation as appealing as physical attraction, and they believe that lifelong partnerships and/or relationships are based on intellectual compatibility.

Juno in the 10th House

People with this placement need someone who can understand the level and depth of dedication they have when it comes to their craft, their work, and most of all, their ambition. In general, Gemini is a very youthful and intellectual sign. Steve having these planets/asteroids in his 10th house means he's drawn to older and professionally-established people. Steve not only wants, he needs to be the bratty bottom for long term success.

(Not to mention, Steve was 26 when he went into the ice – and his mind and body were still 26 when he was defrosted in March/April 2012. This means Tony is 15 years older than him.)

The Sun represents your core personality. What Steve both wants and needs is Tony. Just Tony, the man who looks into the mirror and hates what he sees:

Steve: “Your heart was in the right place.” Tony: “I wish I could say, “the story of my life,” but we both know that's not exactly true.” Steve: “I wish you wouldn't do that.” Tony: “Do what?” Steve: “Put yourself down all the time. Now, Tony's Eros placement. It is in Capricorn and opposite Steve's Cancer Sun. Oppositions are like yin and yang – completely different on the outside, but the same underneath. They are always in complementary elements (earth/water and air/fire).

Tony's Eros in Capricorn and 2nd House:

Eros in Capricorn. These natives are sensual and earthy in their sexual desires. The libido is strong, but controlled. Saturn-ruled Capricorn is a sign that likes to be in control—not necessarily in control of others, but in control of themselves. Many Eros in Capricorn people channel much of their desire nature into accomplishing something significant.

Eros in Capricorn says, “touch me, buy me things, and balance the books if you think you are qualified”. This position of Eros has powerful concepts about what is good and what is good enough. Tony's Eros placement complements Steve's Eros placement perfectly. But not only is Capricorn associated with the 10th House (paralleling Steve's placement), but it also touches on Tony's fear of emotional intimacy. This leads us to Tony's Venus placement. His Venus is in Cancer, and is conjunct Steve's Sun.

Tony's Venus in Cancer and 8th House:

The Venus in Cancer man is attracted to everything feminine about women. He can theoretically be interested in a woman with any type of look, but he tends to notice feminine attributes like long hair, simple and sweet clothing, soft summer dresses, and aura of innocence, etc.

The Venus in Cancer man is also attracted to someone who shows their emotions and is able to be vulnerable. He wants someone who sees him emotionally and appreciates him for who he is.

This man will usually pick women who are unlikely to reject him. Any type of rejection is extra hurtful to a Venus in Cancer man. He will have a hard time letting go of a relationship, even if the partnership goes badly. The Venus in Cancer man is romantic and loving. He is protective, but at his worst, he can also be jealous or possessive. This man needs an intuitive connection with his lover; he wants both partners to be able to sense each others’ feelings. Steve is much more in touch with his feminine side than Tony is. He's definitely the CapMom to Tony's IronDad. (Tony even teases him about turning “the mansion into a day-care center”)

In the comics, Pietro accuses Steve of having “an incurable mother hen complex.” In the films, we see Steve seek out other Avengers in order to talk about their feelings and provide comfort (Natasha in TWS and EG, Bruce in AOU, Wanda in CW) – essentially playing therapist, so he can ignore his own issues (Natasha calls him out for his in EG).

Steve's Sun and Moon signs are both ruled by feminine planets, and his rising sign is ruled by the androgynous Mercury.

Steve's Sun in Cancer:

The crabs are feminine, cardinal water signs. Due to being associated with the water element, depth runs deep in their veins. They are very tender and easily get bruised. It is not easy for them to let go of the hurt someone pondered on them. Motherly instinct is in abundance in their nature. They are extremely sensitive and vigilant of everyone’s needs in their vicinity. They can come out to be a little dependent on their friends and family because they need a lot of support in their regular emotional bursts. This doesn't mean that you can take them to be weak. Steve's Virgo Rising:

Virgo risings are the most detailed, analytical, keen, sharp, methodical, critical and nit-picky sign of the zodiac. They are extremely discriminating and watchful on all the details. (Cancer and Taurus are two of the most possessive signs in the zodiac – if Steve got Tony, he would never let him go.

Also, his Virgo Rising makes me think of that hilarious AA episode where he tells Clint “reading files is my hobby”))

Who can forget the time Carol Danvers called Steve a “hipster doofus”?

In all seriousness, that comic page is an excellent example of Steve's natal chart – he's hanging out in a park that has been around since he was a kid, talking about how unprocessed ingredients not only 'taste like heaven' but the way he remembers them, and rereading Lord of the Rings for the millionth time.

We got Steve's first 'accurate' backstory in 1981 (the first backstory was published in 1978, but was later revealed to be a false memory):

I see here – that he grew up on the Lower East Side of New York City! Evidently, much of his youth was spent trying to help his family make ends meet during the depths of the Depression. Oh... I see... his father died when he was still a child, and his mother had to struggle just to keep her son and herself fed. Still, despite their deprivation, Steve kept up with his schooling, and became a voracious reader... especially of fantasy! Given the state of his reality, I can well understand why. Ah. It seems that the boy also had a natural talent for art. But he kept his love of art, and of books, a secret to avoid taunts and beatings at the hands of his peers. As the Depression wore on, time became increasingly difficult for the Rogers' household. Sarah Rogers took in laundry... and taxed herself to the limit to provide for her son. But time and hardship eventually took its toll, and as Steven entered his late teens, his mother passed on – a victim of pneumonia. Out on his own, young Rogers managed to find a cheap boarding house and took a job as a delivery boy. It was not an easy life, nor a very good one... but somehow, he survived. And then, one day, while trying to escape into the fantasy world of the movies, Steve Rogers encountered an even harsher reality – in newsreel footage of the Nazi war machine in its relentless march across a war-torn Europe!

I want to call attention to the word choice here: deprivation. Deprivation means “a state of extreme poverty” and “the fact of not having something that you need, like enough food, money, or a home.”

Steve wasn't just poor, he was constantly on the verge of starving and being homeless – which would have been a death sentence, considering his numerous health issues. “But somehow, he survived.”

We know that Steve's Taurus Moon is an essential part of his character – he is strong willed and he did get his moral code from his mom (he is the original mama's boy, after all) – but that lack of material security? That's huge, and the effect it had on his psyche cannot be overstated. Really. If you like Steve, you have to understand this.

But back to Tony. Steve is his ideal romantic partner – but accepting that means accepting his soft and vulnerable side, which Tony isn't great at (keep reading for more on this).

Tony has his Moon, Chiron, and Juno conjunct each other in the first half of Aries (1-15 degrees). These planets are conjunct Steve's Chiron. In the second half of Aries (at 24 degrees) Steve and Tony have Alma conjunct Alma.

We're going to look at Tony's Moon, Chiron, and Juno first.

Tony's Moon in Aries:

The Aries Moon has a strong tendency to be "me first" in the sense of focusing on self-interest. Aries Moon rejects conventional behaviour and accepts discipline with difficulty. Aries tends to be nervous, quick-tempered and impulsive. Those born with Moon in Aries have a bold attitude, always seem self-satisfied and act boldly.

Moon in Aries steps into adult life like a child. The natives following their instincts, without hesitation, with a certain naivety, with natural and sincere enthusiasm. They are great lovers of unexpected and risky experiences. Those born with Moon in Aries throw themselves into situations that sometimes cause heart arrhythmias in parents and relatives. An Aries Moon man is action-oriented and fiery. In relationship with their family, they would provide for their family monetarily before doing so emotionally. Tony's Aries Moon is sextile his Gemini Sun and trine his Sagittarius Rising. This means his sun-moon-rising placements are constantly channeling energy into – and enabling – each other.

(A little astrological nerd fact: Tony's Aries Moon is ruled by Mars, while Steve's Taurus Moon is ruled by Venus. Venus/Mars is one of astrology's ultimate power couples!)

Tony's Sun in Gemini:

The Gemini man is very extroverted. He’s always ready to go and jump into something new and exciting. Since he needs constant stimulation, he is quite versatile and good at handling more than one task at once. He can be quite competitive, always up for a good challenge.

The Gemini man is ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication. Geminis are smart and quite good at talking and keeping up with conversations. He might be the type to give advice, most likely unwarranted. However, his communication skills aren’t always a good thing. He can be quite persuasive and skilled at lying. Also, he is awful at talking about his feelings. He will avoid it all costs. (source)

Tony's Sagittarius Rising:

Epic adventures, sweeping grandeur and swashbuckling heroes, the world of the Saggo Rising is the stuff of legend. In their minds they’re just doing what feels right; exploring, laughing, living life to the fullest, but to the rest of us mere mortals they blaze through our lives with a passion and bravado we can’t muster on our best day. The downside….It’s very lonely at the top. Their propensity to burn so brightly garners both fans and detractors. And sometimes burning this bright causes them to blow out. But my God what would we do without their shine.

Much like his symbol the centaur, Sag rising men tend to be equal parts savage and civilized–the noble beast, if you will. In fact, he may just be the most outwardly “manly” sign taking on the world with a masculine bravado not seen in any other sign, well except perhaps Aries. But what really sets these guys apart from the pack is their stunning lack of “meat-headed-ness”. Underneath all that swarth and sweat is actually a great mind with great hope and faith in both himself and the world around him. This great mind effectively enables him to put all that passion and energy to use, while his more primal side keeps his idealistic side grounded in the real world. Balance is the key and a lot of Saggo men tend to either overuse one to the detriment of the other, or they flip back and forth rushing ahead with the primal side and using the philosopher for clean up or explanation reasons. In relationships, this balance becomes even more important because this man above all others can go from wild sex God to sexless priest at the drop of a hat as restraint is not his strong suit. In Tony's comic backstory, he has a childhood love of King Arthur and Arthurian legends; and there's no question that Iron Man is both a 21st Century Knight and Tony's ultimate self-fulfillment fantasy (in a good way!).

There are two types of idealism, and people often confuse the two. Steve and Tony are especially interesting, because they each personify one of the types of idealism:

1. “a person who values principles above practical behavior”

This Chiron placement very often indicates a broken home. In many cases, the parents didn’t have a good relationship. They may have been absent as well. Temporary or permanent separation is very common among people with a Chiron in 4th house natal placement.

Chiron in 4th house indicates a difficult relationship with one of the parents (often the mother). Typically, the care they could give you was not sufficient in some way. It can also happen that they were not present mentally and they couldn’t respond to your needs appropriately. I have read that having Alma conjunct Alma is a sign of Twin Flames. Personally, I don't believe in the (unfortunately) very popular and pseudo-spiritual Twin Flame culture that has developed over the last decade – it's mostly an excuse for toxic and immature behavior. I also haven't seen any legitimate astrologers take it seriously (even though there are a ton of fluff articles on the internet).

However, I definitely believe in the astrological concept of Mirrored Souls (this is what the Twin Flame nonsense is derived from). Two people who may appear to be very different on the surface, but are fundamentally alike.

Steve and Tony are Mirrored Souls, and everything in this post proves it. They also have the majority of their placements in the same four zodiac signs – Aries, Taurus, Gemini, and Cancer (which are also the first four signs of the zodiac).

Watching the films, it is obvious that Steve and Tony trigger each other – and thus, can either heal or destroy each other. What Nancy said in regards to self esteem and self sabotage. Personally, I can see this. I think it’s kind of clear that despite being in the industry for 20 something years, his self confidence is almost bizarrely low.

But that’s what leads me to believe that it may be due to how he is perceived in the industry by his peers and also those who call the shots.

One of my biggest annoyances is seeing people on tumblr try and project fantasies on this man and how is he is. No hate to people who do astrology or look at birth charts and etc etc but what I’m seeing is a man who despite his success and level up in the industry still feels very small compared to others. He is not this “daddy dom” figure that so many love to project and tbh, how weird is that to do to someone you don’t know? I understand writing fanfic of his characters ( what you do and do extremely well) but people love to project fantasy onto a real person who likely already has many insecurities about how he is perceived and expected by people.

The way I see it (and only an opinion):

Maybe he feels like he’s not going to be taken seriously and therefore if he’s in front of bigger names and bigger directors he either gets flustered or perhaps his lack of confidence affects his performance/auditioning, etc. and that’s how he continues to end up in these types of roles. Convo of self esteem not believing he could do better so he self sabotages and settles for less. Vicious cycle.

I think this happened during the marvel days too. He should have been the most confident in this space since he basically helped build the empire and he himself is one of the core reasons the MCU became as successful as it did. But once again, he gets overshadowed constantly by RDJ’s total eclipse and in his own movie trilogy as well.

I also feel he has a passive, nonconfrontational personality that gets steamrolled by bigger more dominating figures. I still believe that’s true. as someone who loved his performance as cap, I wish his trilogy got to explore more about him and I wish his character got explored more beyond just a shield and then subsequently got to treat his legacy the way I personally feel he deserved. Of course endgame had to be about giving RDJ his flowers and fanfare but as a Steve fan I resented the Russos/kevin for treating steve like an afterthought and Chris obviously let it happen because what else would he do/say? But he could have advocated for more. But maybe he didn’t care and thought it was fine he just stood around for three hours while the RDJ show happened. I’m only projecting my own thoughts here.

That said, I don’t see him trying to argue his way to get more attention or limelight on his role. I see him stepping aside to let others take the spotlight and I think that’s how he has always been.

I don’t think his personality is like Ryan Reynolds. He is not steamrolling into other people’s films and rewriting their scenes without letting them know (yes that was shade), but I do think whatever happened in 2022 heavily affected him. He’s dealing with the fallout of these film choices but I also think something may have changed or lit a fire under him. These twitter comments by people and even his peers dogging him and making jokes could have gotten to him.

I’ll use Anthony mackie for an example. We know mackie loves to joke and he’s hilarious but he and others tend to love poking fun at Chris. Calling him a couch potato and how he’s at home making kale salad and he doesn’t do anything. Then later saying he’s been put to pasture. Scarlett always joking good naturedly about Chris but talks of him like he’s a kid with Low attention span and he has all this free time to think about crap so of course he’s thought of his porn star name. Renner and the others joking about him and how he probably has kids he doesn’t know about. Even back in 2019, they went to Seattle ace comic con and renner and don Cheadle were on stage with Chris and tag team poking fun at him. I actually saw the video on YT and felt a little miffed because he clearly was a bit upset by how they ganged up on him at one point and he got super quiet. Renner then bear hugged him and all was fine but I have to wonder if being poked fun at does sometimes bother him.

These are his long time colleagues too. They lovingly poke fun at him but sometimes it feels they say these things to make him seem like a himbo and not a full grown adult. His own fans say he can’t act and constantly compare him to one who played trump 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄 his own friends tell him he’s not funny so he’s so insecure he won’t ever go on SNL. And nobody’s ever tried to convince him otherwise.

Do you see what I mean? I do think much of his decisioning does lean towards self sabotage and esteem issues but I don’t think it’s just because he’s ignorant and that he does it all to himself. I think it’s been years of being pigeonholed, not taken seriously, and worse, enabled by others around him.

So yea, therapy all around would be helpful. But I do think you’re right to wait and see. Let it play out and see how it plays out. I think you are one of the few who are genuinely a fan of his and who wants to see him succeed without becoming parasocial about it.

I can stand behind what you’re saying completely. Obviously this is just us basing our opinion on what is seen and not because we know him personally, before anyone wants to claim otherwise. I think there’s been an accumulation of things going on in his life that has lead him to this point, which that’s all of us really. But I mean to say that there does seem to be a form of disconnect with him and his craft up until this year.

Whatever happened in 2022, it does seem to have light a flame under his ass, and he’s put in the work. We know he’s filmed two movies, and working on the third. We know the work he’s put into ASP and Jinx. We see that the GQ article seemed to be a bit of a low point, and he didn’t want to look like an entitled jerk, and now he’s putting in the work. He’s taken smaller, more interesting roles. And sometimes we have to reach a bottom, before we realize we have to work to get back to the top.

I think we also see that Chris does seem to have some major insecurities, despite what he presents. And that could be the “playfully poking at him” or other things. I’m still side eyeing the friend that told him he wasn’t funny. I am someone that will jab at people, too, but you have to know when it’s too much. Or don’t do it too often. I’ve sometimes wondered if his friends do that as a way to keep him humble? But again, know when it’s too much.

I am a fan. You don’t stay a fan of someone’s for over twenty years just because he has a pretty face. I enjoy the route he’s taken his career for the most part. What I want to see now is his projects growing with him. Ghosted was too young of a role for him. I want to see more roles like Defending Jacob. He’s a man in his 40s, and it’s time for him to just accept that. I want to see him succeed in his career, because it does seem like he wants to continue his path as an actor, and I just genuinely enjoy watching him on screen.

Peter Hates Having His Tummy Touched - MCU AU Mini-Fic

Part of my frostiron and spiderson series

Peter hates having his tummy touched. One day when he’s landed in hospital, the doctor seeing to him wants to do an ultrasound. But that means, according to google, 15-45 minutes of constant tummy touching. And Peter isn’t happy about that.

Peter huddled down at the head of the bed, trying to make himself look as small as possible. There was no way he was letting that doctor anywhere near him. He was a small-ish man, but he looked very stern, and Peter didn’t much like the look of him.

The off-duty paramedic had been different. He’d been reassuring. Peter had let him near enough to put a few rough dressings on his wounds and clear his neck at the scene. He grabbed his wrist to stop him when he tried to call an ambulance for him, though. This paramedic seemed new, and he wasn’t one that Peter had met before. But he was understanding and kind, and Peter let him bundle him into his car, drive him to the hospital, and hand him over to the A&E staff.

He’d been a bit funny with the nurses, so they struggled a little in triage. He was dizzy and confused, wouldn’t let them look him over properly, and refused a blood test - but he did let them stick electrodes on him and hook him up to a monitor. And then he was moved to cubicles, and the curtains were pulled round, and now there was this doctor. And Peter didn’t like him one bit.

“Come on now, son; stop being so silly” the doctor said. “You’re obviously in pain, and you’ve got blood all over your face and arms. Let me take a look at you”

No way, Peter thought. Especially not on my own. I want my dads.

“Can’t you give us a name, at least? Something to work with?”

It was strange. None of the staff that knew him seemed to be about, so it felt like he was somewhere different altogether. He didn’t say a word. The doctor sighed, going over to the whiteboard by the bed and getting out a board pen. Peter knew how this bit worked: a randomly generated name, 1st January and the suspected year of birth, sex, and a random serial number with the hospital code. Peter didn’t want to talk to this doctor, but he didn’t especially want to be noted down as Unknown Patient, albeit in a less obvious way.

Peter took his phone out, opened a page, and held it out to the doctor. The doctor quickly took it from him. He looked at the screen, opened to a contact labelled; ‘daddy’.

“Thank you. Good boy” The doctor said, and he pressed the call button.

The phone was answered within the first five rings.

“Peter, sweetheart, I’m still at work” the voice on the end of the line said.

The doctor looked surprised. “Loki?”

“Dr Sherman?” There was a pause. “Are you with Peter? Is he ok?!”

“He’s had an accident, and he’s not letting anyone examine him. He just handed me his phone with your contact. I think he wants you”

“I’ll be with you in five minutes”

The call ended. Dr Sherman set the mobile down beside Peter on the bed. Peter left it there.

“He’ll be here soon” Dr Sherman said. He noticed the way Peter was huddled up. “...Is your stomach hurting? You look uncomfortable”

He went to touch him, and Peter whined and turned away, curling up tighter against the pillow.

“Alright” he sighed. “I’ll be back in a few minutes. See if you can relax a little while I’m gone”

Peter couldn’t relax. He was in pain, and he was nervous and just a little bit confused. And he wanted his daddy. He didn’t care how silly he was being: he knew he didn’t want Dr Sherman touching him, and he was sticking to that.

Dr Sherman made Peter jump when he came back.

“Alright, don’t hurt yourself”

There were hurried footsteps, and all in an instant, Loki was with them.

“Peter!” Loki threw his arms around the boy. “Oh sweetheart, what have you done now?”

Peter held onto his father for dear life, but didn’t say anything.

“I didn’t realise he was your son” Dr Sherman said, getting out a pen for the whiteboard again.

“He’s Peter Parker-Stark. Hyphenated” Loki said. “He’s fifteen”

Dr Sherman filled in the board, and put the marker away. A nurse joined them in the cubicle, a clipboard over her arm. She looked young, and Loki had never seen her before. He nodded politely at her.

“He hasn’t let anyone look at him” Dr Sherman said. “Is there any medical history we should know about?”

“Nothing relevant. He’s not on any medication. Oh, he’s allergic to... Ah, sorry, I can’t remember what it’s called at the moment. It’s a rarely-used type of antibiotic. It’s in his notes. Other than that... Oh, he’s got selective mutism. So he might not speak to you”

“I see. Thank you; you’ve been most helpful”

Loki kissed Peter hard on the cheek. “...How did he get here? Was it an ambulance?”

“An off-duty paramedic brought him in. They must have had more luck with him, as that’s where those rough dressings are from. He was off with the triage nurses too, I’m told”

“I think he’s just scared. He’s not being rude or anything like that” Loki said, kissing the top of Peter’s head. “We need to have a look at you, chick”

Peter went a little panicky - as was evident by the loud, fast beeping of the heart monitor.

“Hey, hey! Shh, don’t start. Shhh!” Loki gave him a little cuddle, and soon his heart rate fell and he started to calm down. “There now. You remember what I taught you about primary and secondary surveys?”

Peter nodded slightly.

“Well, now it’s time for Dr Sherman and the nurse here to do theirs”

Loki kept one arm behind the boys back, slipped the other arm under his knees, lifted him up, and plonked him down on his back in the middle of the bed, so he lay flat. Peter looked a little shocked, but he didn’t struggle or try to curl in on himself again. He blinked up at the bright lights above, and looked at Loki.

“There, you’re alright. You stay still and let yourself be checked over. I’ll hold your hand”

Loki nodded at Dr Sherman, who cleared his throat and stepped forwards.

“Ok, Peter, I’m going to check you over. If anything hurts, let me know. Let’s start with that forehead cut”

Dr Sherman peeled back the dressing, causing the wound to bleed again.

“That’s rather nasty” He looked back at the nurse. “His admission page mentions confusion and dizziness. I’d like to order a head CT, just to be safe”

He put the dressing back, checked the rest of Peter’s head, and pulled out a pen torch. Peter squirmed and pushed his hand away.

“Oh dear”

“I think you just surprised him” Loki said. “I don’t think it’s aversion to light”

“Well”

“Mind if I try?” Loki said, taking his own pen torch out.

“Be my guest”

“I’m just going to check your eyes, Peter” Loki said. “You know what to do”

Loki had practised on Peter hundreds of times, so Peter knew he was in good hands. He tried to keep looking at the same spot, but he didn’t like the feeling of being watched, and couldn’t help looking around.

“Peter, stop moving your eyes”

Peter stopped, fixing his gaze on Loki’s nose.

“...Equal and reactive” Loki said, stepping back.

“Thank you” Dr Sherman said. “I’m going to continue checking you over now, Peter”

Peter didn’t struggle. He listened to the doctor mumbling about cut elbows and abrasions. Dr Sherman moved on to his chest and sides, and Peter startled and squeezed his eyes shut.

“Does that hurt?”

Peter nodded. Dr Sherman felt his ribs carefully.

“Best order a chest x-ray” he said to the nurse.

“You’re alright, chick” Loki said, looking him in the eye. “Halfway there, ok?”

Peter nodded slightly, looking up at his father. They kept looking at each other. Dr Sherman kept checking him over, and Peter startled and squirmed when he started prodding his stomach.

“Did that hurt?”

Peter looked at the doctor, but didn’t say anything. Loki looked at him too.

“Was that his stomach?”

“Yes”

“That wasn’t pain”

“Loki-”

“Believe me, it wasn’t pain” Loki said. “He hates having his stomach touched”

“I see” Dr Sherman said. “Well, I still need to check you over, Peter. Just hold still for me”

Peter whimpered and pushed his hands away.

“Peter, you need to hold still for the doctor” Loki said.

“I’m not convinced” Dr Sherman said. “I’m just going to lift your shirt up”

Peter tried to stay still, but the cold air against his skin made him shudder.

“Has he always been this thin?”

“Well, he’s lost some weight recently. He’s been a bit under the weather, and it’s affected his appetite”

“I see. And these bruises on his hips?” Dr Sherman inspected them. “These look at least a few days old”

Loki looked at Peter. “Was that the pool, or the stairs? The pool?” Loki nodded and looked at Dr Sherman. “He had a bit of a tumble in the swimming pool. He was trying his luck climbing some of the rocks”

“I see. Is he usually quite accident prone?”

“A little bit, I suppose” Loki said. “No more than any other boy his age. Well, maybe just a little”

“I see” Dr Sherman said, prodding Peter’s stomach again.

Loki held the boys hands so he couldn’t push the doctor away, but Peter still whined and squirmed and tried to struggle away and turn onto his side.

“No, sweetheart” Loki said, pushing him back onto his back and holding him down with a hand to the hip.

Dr Sherman finished examining the boys abdomen, and straightened up, sucking his breath.

“I’m not convinced he’s not in pain. I’m concerned something may be going on here” he said. “Has he always had this aversion to touch there?”

“Well, as far as I know” Loki said. “I’ve never really thought much of it. Just one of those things”

“I’d like to take a closer look. I’m going to order an ultrasound” he nodded at the nurse. “Ok?”

Dr Sherman checked Peter over, not finding anything else untoward. He listened to the boys chest and did some other observations, and scribbled on his chart.

“We’ll get you sent off for your scans, and then we’ll do the ultrasound here. I’ll see you both in a little while”

“Thank you, Doctor”

Peter wouldn’t say a word, which worried Loki. Peter squirmed a little when the nurse came back to dress his wounds, but still didn’t say a word. Luckily he didn’t need stitches, much to everyone’s relief. Loki got talking to the nurse while she worked away.

“I don’t think we’ve met”

“I’m new to this hospital” she said. “I only started last week”

“Oh, I see! Is this your first rotation?”

“Second” she said. “I’ve heard a lot about you since I’ve been here. Everyone seems to know you”

“Oh yes, you’ll find that a lot. Mostly it’s just people being nosy. It’s only the people on my ward, and certain people down here that really know me - for various reasons. How are you finding it?”

“Busy. It’s very different to my last rotation. But it’s good. I’m still quite shy about it, though”

“You’ll get used to it in no time”

Peter’s CT scan and x-ray were uneventful, quiet affairs. They’d just returned from radiology when Loki heard a familiar frenzied voice.

“I’ll just be a moment, chick”

Loki slipped through the curtain and went and cornered his husband.

“Loki! Where is he? Is he ok?!”

“Of course he is! I said that on the phone” Loki said. “Calm down, darling. We’ve just come back from the scan. We should get the results soon”

“I need to see him. Where is he?”

“He’s just over here”

Loki took him back to Peter’s cubicle.

“What have you been up to, you silly thing?” Tony said, gathering the boy up in his arms and giving him a big hug. “You really need to be more careful. God, my heart’s still thumping! How’s your head? Does it hurt? Where were you? I thought you were staying in today. Did-”

“Tony, don’t pester him” Loki said. “He needs a bit of calm”

Tony let go of Peter, straightening up and nodding. “Sorry. I just got so worried when you rang”

“He’s been in much worse scrapes that this” Loki said. “He’ll be fine”

Tony soon got worried about Peter’s silence. It wasn’t unusual for Peter to not talk to strangers, but it was incredibly unusual for him not to talk to his parents.

“What if something is wrong?” Tony said, lowering his voice. “What if he’s in shock or something?”

“You’re worrying too much” Loki said quietly. “He’s fine”

Just then, Dr Sherman and the nurse came back, wheeling an ultrasound machine into the cubicle. Peter looked up all of a sudden, and slowly sat up, looking at the machine as though it were a man-eating shark.

“Ah, Mr Stark, I didn’t realise you’d arrived” Dr Sherman said, shaking his hand. “I’m Dr Sherman, and this is nurse Ellul. We’ve been looking after your son”

“Oh, hi. Thank you. Uh, why the machine?”

“I’m concerned about Peter’s stomach, and I’d like to take a closer look”

Peter curled up against the pillow while the grown ups talked. He didn’t feel too well, and his tummy was squeezing horribly. It hurt rather a lot. He couldn’t help reacting - and that drew attention to him.

“Is your stomach hurting?” Dr Sherman asked.

Peter shook his head, but it was obvious he wasn’t being truthful. Tony looked at Loki.

“Well... We never thought anything of it. Maybe there is something going on. it wouldn’t hurt to check. I guess...”

“I’m not so sure” Loki said, looking at Peter’s heart monitor. “He’s scared already”

“It’s just an ultrasound. I know you’re familiar with them. It’s better to be safe than sorry, don’t you agree?” Dr Sherman said. He looked at Peter “Lay down for me now”

“No”

Hearing his voice surprised everyone, and there was a short pause.

“Peter, sweetheart, it’s not so bad. Maybe it won’t make you feel so funny, because it’s a probe and not someones hand?” Tony tried.

Peter shook his head. “Don’t want to”

“You need to”

“No! I don’t wanna be touched! Why is that suddenly a crime?!”

“Don’t shout, Peter” Loki said. “It’ll be over before you know it”

“That’s a lie! It said online that they can take up to forty-five minutes! Fifteen to forty-five minutes!”

“I think it’ll take less than fifteen minutes” Dr Sherman said. “Calm down now, and do as you’re told”

“Yeah, listen to the doctor, kid. You are being pretty silly now” Tony said. “We’ll pin you down if we have to”

“It’s not fair! I didn’t consent to this!”

Dr Sherman looked at Loki and Tony. “Perhaps we should give him a mild sedative to help him relax, since it’s making him so nervous”

“No way” Loki and Tony said. “We won’t do sedatives. Check his notes”

Dr Sherman blinked a bit, glancing at nurse Ellul.

“I really do recommend this scan” he said. “Can you think of any way to calm him down?”

Tony shook his head slightly. “Sorry. I bet you’ve never had anyone make this much fuss over an ultrasound before!”

“Given what I’ve been told, I can understand his reluctance” Dr Sherman said.

Loki suddenly grabbed Peter under the arms from behind, picked him up, climbed onto the bed, and lay down flat, making Peter lay atop him.

“Daddy, let go! I said no!”

“I’m sorry, sweetheart, but sometimes you have to do things that you don’t want to do. It's for your own good, chick” he said. He looked at Dr Sherman. “I know this isn’t ideal, but you’ll be able to access his tummy this way, and I’ll keep him still”

“I don’t want to! He’s gonna hurt me”

“No, he isn’t” Loki said, holding both of Peter’s hands captive in one of his, and resting his other hand on Peter’s hip.

Peter knew he couldn��t escape from Loki easily, so he looked to Tony for help. Tony sighed and kissed him on the bridge of the nose.

“It’ll be over soon, pet” he said, resting a hand on his head. “Just try to stay calm”

Nurse Ellul turned the ultrasound machine on and opened the monitor.

“I’m just going to pull your shirt up, Peter, darling” she said, carefully doing so.

“Alright then, Peter” Dr Manning said, squeezing some gel onto the ultrasound probe. “You’re perfectly safe. This is going to feel a bit cold”

Peter squirmed when the probe touched his skin, but Loki held him still so he couldn’t move. The gel was uncomfortably cold, and the probe felt weird against his tummy. Peter squeezed his eyes shut and tried to calm down, but he couldn’t. He whimpered and tried hard to pull his hands free from his fathers grip. He could hear his heart monitor beeping, and he could feel the muscles in his stomach lurching and retracting as the probe dug into him.

It seemed to be taking an age, and Peter rather thought that part of that was due to his own involuntary movements - a cruel irony, he thought. The lower part of his tummy still hurt, and the probe just made it worse.

“Stop it! Dad, make him stop; I don’t like it!”

Tony rubbed his forehead with his thumb and stayed quiet. He hated seeing Peter so uncomfortable, but he hated the possibility he might have some hidden illness even more.

“You’re doing well, Peter” Dr Sherman said. “Are you in pain?”

“Yes!”

“It won’t be too much longer”

He was looking at the monitor, frowning. He continued moving the probe, exploring further. After what felt like hours, he removed the probe from Peter’s stomach.

“There, all done. Good boy” he said.

Loki slackened his grip on Peter, who seemed relieved. Nurse Ellul wiped the gel from Peter’s abdomen, and Peter squirmed and whined and struggled.

“Ok, darling” she said. “There, all done”

Loki sat up, keeping Peter in his lap when he did so. He hadn’t been able to see the monitor from where he was, so he didn’t know how the scan had gone, technically.

“So, what’s the verdict?” Tony said, biting his thumb. “Is he ok?”

“I can’t see anything wrong” Dr Sherman said. “It all looks clear. I think your tummy ache may just be anxiety, Peter”

“Oh, thank god” Tony breathed out in relief. “So it really is just him being strange?”

“This aversion to touch, is it just strangers that spark it up?”

“Oh no, he won’t generally let us touch his stomach either” Loki said. “Here, I’ll prove it”

He shoved his hand up Peter’s shirt, and Peter squeaked and squirmed and pushed his hand away.

“Don’t do that! You know how I feel about it!”

As soon as he said it, Tony rested a hand on the boys stomach, and received a similar reaction.

“Sorry, chicken”

Loki gave him a hug and kissed him on the cheek. “Sorry, sweetheart”

“How funny. And he’s never had any illnesses relating to, or any major injuries to his stomach?”

“Well...”

Loki and Tony looked at each other, remembering the building site incident.

“He’s had a few moderate injuries to his tummy, but he’d never liked us touching his tummy before then” Tony said. “I guess it’s just one of those things. Like how some people hate having their feet touched”

“Perhaps you’re right” Dr Sherman reached out and ruffled Peter’s hair, careful to avoid touching the cut on his forehead. “I’ll be back with your CT and x-ray results as soon as they come through”

Tony sat down on the bed, an arm round Peter.

“It’s incredible how much of a fuss your stomach has caused today, chick”

“I didn’t ask anyone to fuss”

“Well, maybe not. You fussed, though”

Peter scowled at him.

“What’s with the face?”

“Leave him alone, Tony” Loki said. “At least we know there’s nothing nasty going on in there now. Not that we’d considered it, but still”

Tony sighed. “Well, never mind. Let’s just hope your other results are clear too”

The CT scan came back clear, and, to everyone’s surprise, the x-ray showed that Peter’s ribs were not broken; only bruised. So, after a few more little checks, and a few scribbled signatures, they were allowed to take Peter home.

Peter was tucked up on the futon in the back room when they got home.

“Dads, I don’t need you making a fuss. I only ended up in hospital cos of all the blood and not speaking and stuff”

“You ended up in hospital because you got hurt” Tony said. “It’s a good job your father was nearly at the end of his shift, otherwise you would probably still be there”

“I’d’ve just made the doctor call you if daddy wasn’t available” Peter said. “Dads, I’m fine. I’ve had my painkillers, I’ve listened to the doctors and nurses advice. I’m fine”

“You’re silly, is what you are” Loki said. “You may think today was nothing, but you scared the hell out of us, ending up in A&E again. You need to be more careful”

“He needs supervising” Tony said. “Maybe we should get you an au pair”

“Now who’s being silly?” Peter said, but he grinned.

Tony ruffled his hair gently and kissed him on the cheek.

“Well, I’m gonna go and get you something to eat” Loki said.

“And I’m gonna sit here with you” Tony said, sitting beside Peter and wrapping a blanket round his legs. “Let’s get you comfy and settled”

Loki smiled at them. “Try not to have any more falls while I’m gone”
