I know there are many Heimdall fans here who ignore his shady behaviour in general, but I always maintain that he isn't a good bifrost gatekeeper. He favours Thor almost blindly and doesn't do his job when needed.
He could've stalled Thor from heading to Jotunheim until the guard sent by Loki got to Odin to inform him about it. He knew that Loki had sent that guard, he only needed to wait for a bit. But nope....he let both the princes of Asgard walk into a dangerous situation where they both could've been killed.
It's obvious that he didn't care about Loki (and others) dying, but he didn't even care about the crown prince's life.
Not to mention that he definitely knew about Loki's Jotun origins. He who sees everything couldn't have missed seeing Odin taking baby Loki from Jotunheim and bringing him to Asgard. He was in on it (which is pretty obvious in the way he mentioned that Loki was not dressed warmly enough for Jotunheim, alluding to him not actually needing warm clothing, because he's Jotun).
So basically Heimdall simply hated Loki because he was Jotun, and he never trusted him because of that either. Hence his ultra readiness to kill him at the first chance he got. It's a good thing that Loki didn't trust him not to kill him either, otherwise he'd have been toast in this scene. Why he didn't kill Heimdall here, when he very well could've, is open for discussion.

Being a normal Asgardian citizen must be so crazy for the first Thor movie. Like. You’re a normal person. Maybe you sell your wares at the market or something. Raise goats. But it’s your wonderful prince Thor’s coronation today and it’s so fun and grand and you’re going to celebrat- oh hold on. Hold on. No wait the coronation is cancelled. Somebody tells you that frost giants snuck into Asgard but that’s like so crazy you don’t believe it. Prince Thor probably got sick from nerves or something. Anyway you’re upset about the lack of feasting but it’s FINE you go home and- prince Thor disappears. Like he’s just gone now. Oh he’s banished??? For what. For going to JOTUNHEIM?? That’s crazy. Why would he do that? Anyway you have wares to peddle so- the All-Father’s in the Odinsleep now. That can’t be true, you have it marked down on your calendar that it’s supposed to be next month. Oh he is? Okay fine. Loki’s king now? Okay sure. He’s not as perky but he’ll do or whatever. He’ll do fine probably, it’s just until the All-Father wakes up and prince Thor comes back. Probably. And then the Bifrost is gone. It’s just gone now. King Loki was coronated and now the Bifrost is gone and by the way King Loki is dead now. No they don’t have his body it went with the Bifrost. The All-Father is back and so is Thor though so that’s something. It’s been 3 days.
#its probably been longer than 3 days but like do you think normal Asgardians know anything???#the royal family is out here doing things#Heimdall is committing treason#no one knows what the heck is going on ever#marvel#mcu#thor

ATTENTION! THIS IS A RANT POST ABOUT THOR: RAGNAROK
If you are not interested/a Ragnarok fan please skip, or just don't leave negative comments, thank you.
Ok, here we go.
I personally hate how overrated Thor: Ragnarok is.
People only started criticising Waititi's direction after the Love and Thunder flop, and I was honestly flabbergasted, because... They were criticising the exact same things they loved so much in Ragnarok.
For example, they criticised Thor being too stupid and unserious but... He was already an idiot in Ragnarok? Which, by the way, even as a Loki stan, was the thing I hated the most about the movie (I guess the Odinsons just have a tendency of becoming idiotic scapegoats in every modern piece of media that depicts them. Yes, I'm also referencing the Loki series here.)
But moving on.
Another thing that was funny to me was people (rightfully) criticising the lack of seriousness and conflict with such a great villain. And, once again, I was there standing like... It's the SAME THING that happened in Ragnarok?? Like, the movie that's supposed to be about Ragnarok literally only had like 20 minutes of apocalypse/main conflict with Hela/Surtr in it! Most of the goddamn movie takes place on a dumb garbage planet with the Grandmaster (another wasted character) just fucking around. Little side note here, the Grandmaster is supposed to be the Collector's brother (in the comics and cartoon they both collect rare things and people and compete over it, yadda yadda) and yet this isn't referenced in any way? His powers are never shown. Like what? The potential? Wasted like that? UGH.
Also, this movie adds shallow characters. First of all, obviously, the Grandmaster, who I already covered. Then, and here I'm taking a deep breath waiting to get crucified, Valkyrie.
Ok, I'm going to try and explain this one easily. Valkyrie isn't a bad character, ok? I'm already going to say this since I want to clarify it as soon as possible. I don't think she's bad and I don't dislike her. The problem is, she is given a shallow personality and shallow purpose, at least when I look at her. For instance, I appreciated the way her trauma was portrayed, with her drinking and all, but they do joke about it sometimes (too many) and that I do not appreciate. But then. Her personality just... Ends there. And again, this is comprehensible in a way, but what I do not understand is her just switching sides randomly, like she didn't capture and shock Thor just hours before in the movie. That, plus her serving little purpose to the plot is what irks me the most. Like, the main things she does in the movie are:
1. Capturing Thor and bringing him to the GM.
2. Telling them about the only way out of the planet.
3. Being there in the final battle.
And if this was a better written movie, this would make her a necessary character. But in Ragnarok... She isn't.
She catches Thor, then dips. Ok, just have him randomly land in the GM's throne room, or have him getting caught by another rando who then dips.
The escape? Loki has lived with the GM (and his most trusted court members/whatever they are supposed to be) for two weeks. Do you really think that someone like him couldn't gather such a massive piece of info in this time? Or even better, do you think he hasn't noticed the GIANT EINSTEIN-ROSEN BRIDGE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SKY? He is intelligent. That's the point of his character. He would- SHOULD- have figured it out in a matter of days, the only thing stopping him was getting to a decent ship to cross said bridge, and that's what he actually needed his brother (and maybe Hulk, even if his presence was pretty random) for.
The final battle was disappointing, so I'm not even going to comment this one.
All of this to say that, with the way the character/movie was written, Valkyrie could have been removed, a few changes could have been made and the movie would have been the same. Yeah, she's friends with Hulk, which, cool, but once again this bond isn't used in any way besides her joking with him and Bruce. Her character was treated way better in the What If episodes she appeared in.
[Edit: someone reblogged and thought I was implying that her character should be thrown away. To be clear, I wasn't, I actually like her and do acknowledge that Jane, too, was shallow as a character, I just didn't mention her because she doesn't appear in this movie. All I was saying is that the writing makes her just be there, which is something that pisses me off, too. This was just to point out that Ragnarok just added so many characters with potential that was never used, and Valkyrie is one of them. Hell, you could take away half of the secondary characters, if not (almost) all of them, and the movie would stay the same.]
Then we have Korg. Yeah, I got nothing to say, he's an idiot that used to be a serious/half-important character in comics/series and got severely distorted in this movie like most other characters starring in it. Funnily enough, just like Valkyrie, his character is treated better and is way more useful in What If, which is honestly ironic.
Then, I could talk about the mistreatment of both Thor and Loki's characters but that would take a post the length of the Divine Comedy, so I'll just cut it short and cover the most important points.
Thor and Loki are obviously not appreciated (Loki is disliked more, of course he is), and therefore are written in a very OOC way. Thor turns into a full blabbering idiot and Loki is interpreted as someone whose only purpose is to betray, stab and rule. And that's all I'm going to say for now, even though I might extend the discourse in a future post.
And now, oooh boy, Hela. I loved Hela, I was excited as soon as she appeared on screen. And what happened next? Her brothers got lost in space and we didn't see them interact with her in any way besides her introduction and the short ahh dialogue with Thor in the final battle. I hate this so much. Once again, the movie that's supposed to talk about Ragnarok only shows the conflict in the last 20 minutes of the movie. And we barely see Hela, or at least we don't get to see her as much as we should, given that she's supposed to be the main antagonist of the damn movie. Her character was great, for all that we could see, but she is a walking definition of wasted potential and I despise it.
Now, there is something I do appreciate about the movie, and it's the characterization of Hulk. He finally isn't reduced to a stupid destroyer or dumb beast, and as a huge Hulk fan and Agents of S.M.A.S.H. watcher I liked this. This, and Heimdall being given some scenes and characterization, too. That's it. That's what I liked about the movie.
Now, short list of things I hated to finish the post: Fandral and Volstagg being killed like flies, Hogun meeting a similar fate right after, Sif not even appearing (so much for Sif and the Three Warriors); the constant jokes that were obviously made for an audience of four years olds; Skurge (or whatever his name was) just... Being there? Another useless/misused/mischaracterised character I didn't mention before, because DAMN is this character STUPID; STRANGE just appearing at some point and dipping (like he couldn't help them?? WHY EVEN MAKE HIM SHOW UP AT ALL UGHHH).
I think that's about it for now, thanks for reading this stupid rant. I'm open for constructive criticism and comments, and also for peaceful discussion, so DM me or leave a comment if you feel like interacting.

Warnings: non/dubcon, and other dark elements. Not all kinks or triggers are tagged. My username actually says you never asked for any of this.
My warnings are not exhaustive but be aware this is a dark fic and may include potentially triggering topics. Please use your common sense when consuming content. I am not responsible for your decisions.
Summary: You are set to meet your betrothed but find yourself unexpectedly detained.
Character: Heimdall
Day Nine of the December Daze Challenge.
Prompt - *hand on forehead* oh gosh, your burning up!
Note: As usual, I would appreciate any and all feedback. I’m happy to once more go on this adventure with all of you! Thank you in advance for your comments and for reblogging.
You sit at your mirror as you adjust the gem dangling right below your collar bone. The topaz shines in the lantern light, gleaming like gold. You admire its beauty, a stark contrast to your own gaunt appearance. You don’t know when you grew so drawn. Lately, you’re noticing these things. More than your appearance, you feel the weakness in your bones.
You have to resist from rubbing your eyes. You’ve already lined them and it took so much effort to do so that you don’t think you could do it again. You’re doubtful you’ll even make it through the night you’ve so diligently prepared for.
Your hand falls away from the necklace and you lean forward to sift through your jewelry chest. You should find a bracelet or ring to go with the gem. Maybe even a pin for your hair. You pluck out a golden band but put it back. You suppose it needs no compliment after all.
You yawn and roll your eyes back as fatigue burns in your lids. You don’t know what’s wrong with you. It’s such poor timing too. You are to meet the prince tonight and putting it off is not an option.
There’s a knock at the door. You check your reflection then stand. You go to open it and muster a smile for the figure on the other side. Heimdall is tall and stoic, his eyes as bright and golden as the jewel at your throat, and his shoulder broad and strong. Like all Asgardians, he is formidable.
“Princess,” he says in his placid tone. “You are nearly due to depart.”
“Yes, I know it, sir,” you say and take another long blink. “Forgive me, I’m only touching up.”
His sparkling eyes lower to meet your gaze. A line forms between his brows. He hums, in that way that he does. In the way that speaks doubt.
“I only need a shawl and we might leave,” you suggest.
“A shawl. In this weather,” he peers out the tall arched windows. The curtains stir in the breeze.
“Yes, your Asgardian climate does not agree with me, I think,” you say.
He looks back to you and tilts his head, “it is not cold.” He raises a hand without pretense and you wince as he touches your forehead. His touch is like fire. “You are alight.”
“Sir,” you step back at the impropriety of his touch.
“A fever. No doubt, your travel has weakened you. Made you susceptible to ague.”
“An ague?” You utter, “but no, I must meet the prince.”
“The prince. For once in his life, he can wait,” Heimdall insists.
“But, sir--”
“And what would he say of me if I allowed his bride-to-be out in such a state. He will understand. If truly he means to be a good suitor,” he argues. “I know these things, princess. I see them as I see all.”
You look up at him. You are far too weak to argue. Only standing there has you swaying. He gestures you away from the door.
“You must rest,” he girds.
“I...” you begin and smother the yawn that rise. “I think you are right.”
Your shoulders slump as you turn. You’re wobbly on your feet as a shiver crawls over your sweat-beaded flesh. You go to the bed and he follows. You sit and feel yourself leaning forward without meaning to.
“Princess,” he catches you before you can fall off the mattress. “Oh, your grace,” he takes you by your arms and holds you up. His palms have you sweltering. He looks you in the face with worry. “A living bride is much preferable, I’d say.”
“Yes, I’d...” you begin but trail off, your head lolling on your neck. “Oh, I feel... rotten.”
He hushes you and suddenly, you’re sprawled over the bed. Your head is on the pillows as the dark figure works over you. A shadow without features. You blink several times before you see Heimdall clearly. You say his name as he folds the blankets at your waist.
“The prince is aware of your condition. He sends his well wishes and hopes you will recover soon,” he says. He turns and reaches into the basin at the bedside. Water stirs noisily and trickles as he squeezes out the excess. He lays the cool cloth over your brow. “And you will. You only need to adjust to this place.”
“Oh I hope,” your eyes close as your daze deepens.
When you look again, he is there still. In a chair near the bed. He reads a book as if nothing worries him. You watch him for a while before you drift off again.
The next time you stir, he is sat on edge of the bed once more. He wipes your brow delicately. The soft light suggests the night has passed and morning will soon be there. You moan and lean into his touch.
“Heimdall, do I worsen?” You croak.
“You remain as you were,” he affirms. “I have cleaned your face as best I can and you did sweat through your dress.”
“Oh...” you cringe.
“It is nothing I haven’t seen, as I’ve seen you before you even came here.”
Your lashes flutter, “you did?”
“Yes, certainly, my eye is often drawn to the most shining beacons,” he intones.
You don’t reply. It is rather sweet of him to say. Norns, you feel utterly ruinous.
“Do not trouble yourself. It will not aid you,” he brings his hand down to cradle the stone around your neck. “You must reserve your strength.”
He squeezes for a moment before he lets it rest on your chest. It is hot, burning like red iron. You shiver and close your eyes. When they open again, it is still morning. You frown.
“Has the day not come?” You ask.
No answer comes. You peer around at the vacant room. Heimdall appears through the door and replies all the same, “another, yes. You’ve been abed, Princess.”
“I... have?” You wonder.
“Time is the best medicine,” he says calmly. Something about the way he speaks is so reassuring. He doesn’t seem as if he could ever tell a falsehood.
“Will you tell the prince I am most regretful for my absence?” You ask. “I think tomorrow I might feel better.” You try to smile, “I think already I feel myself flourishing.”
You wipe the sweat from your neck and your hand trails to the necklace. That’s odd. You tug on it.
“Will you take this off?” You ask.
“It was a gift from the prince. You shouldn’t...” he peters off. “But if you insist.”
“Oh, no, no, I suppose it is good to keep him close to my heart.”
“I will brew some tea, it may help,” he suggests.
Heimdall goes again and returns with a crystal mug of tea. The brew is so vibrantly purple that it almost seems to change colour. Or perhaps it is the fever causing hallucinations. He helps you sits up and puts the brim to your lips for each cautious sip.
When you finish, warmth flows through your body, from your fingertips to your crown to your toes. A new sheen of sweat rises and you push the blankets away from your body. The incessant cold that’s plagued you for days dissipates into an equally unbearable heat.
Heimdall watches you without reaction. You fan yourself as the flames burn an itch into your skin. You wipe your face and the sensation of your own touch makes you shudder. You can’t help but drag your hands down your neck and along your chest. You moan as your mind tickles with a peculiar urge.
You cup your chest and groan again. You push your thighs tight and bat your lashes at the man perched beside you. His expression is cryptic as he gazes at you as if he were watching the sky. His eyes narrow as yours widen.
“I feel...” you breathe as a sultry sweetness bleeds onto your tongue. “I feel...” you rub your thighs together. “Everything.”
“But you feel stronger?” He reaches to pinch the topaz medallion between his fingers. When he lays it back, it feels lighter. “You feel... needy?”
His hand sits on your leg and you stare at it, teething your lip. Your confusion washes away with the tides of your desire. You nod eagerly.
“Yes, yes, I am,” you latch onto his hand and whine. “I need... I need something.”
“Mm, yes, starling, you need delight,” he curls his fingers to caress you, “you need tenderness,” his touch creeps up beneath your skirt, “you need diligence.”
You hum and shake your head through the fogginess. You clutch the necklace and whimper as a surge rolls over you. You twitch as the rippling force swelling within you. His other hand wraps around yours and draws it away from the stone.
“You don’t want to break it,” he warns as he puts your hand to his cheek. “You want me, don’t you?”
You blink. You should say no. He is not the prince, not your betrothed. Yet that coiling inside of you screams otherwise. It is more than desire, it is desperation.
“Do not fear, starling,” he says. “You will be safe, as I have kept you thus.” He leans in closer, “the prince is much too distracted with the ladies of his court. He does not deserve a princess so precious as you.”
You cling to him even as your despair rises. What does he mean? You have sworn yourself to the prince, as he has. He is the watcher of the realm, the protector of Asgard, and you are to be its queen. Yet here you are, getting closer and closer, and you cannot not stop. You will not.
“I can see even your fear, starling,” his lips brush yours as he slips his hand around the back of your head. “But I can see too that you needn’t be afraid for no one shall ever take you from me. Not even the prince.”

The implications of Rio Vidal/Death’s introduction to the MCU are enormous.
Now we know in retrospect that every single MCU character who has ever died was escorted onward by her.
So it’s not just Nicky, Sharon, Alice, and Lilia.
Abraham Erskine, Meredith Quill, Ho Yinsen, Phil Coulson, Frigga, Pietro Maximoff, Peggy Carter, T’Chaka, Odin, Hela, Erik Killmonger, Heimdall, OG!Loki, OG!Gamora, Thanos, Natasha Romanoff, Tony Stark, Aunt May, Jane Foster, T’Challa, Ramonda, Maria Hill … all of them saw her when their time came.
And it makes sense that Marc Spector & Steven Grant never saw her, because it was not their time yet and she knew they’d be sent back.

MCU Timeline. Avengers: Infinity War
At the dawn of the universe - nothing.
The Big Bang - formation of the six Infinity Stones.

~500 or 964/965 AD - Thor is born.

Now we have this contradiction: the first Thor movie and all the MCU books tell us he was born in 964 or 965 AD, and this is the only time he says he's 1,500 years old. He could have rounded it up, or it could have been a mistake (like his mispronunciation of "Nidavellir") - pick your favorite explanation.
Early 1945 - during a fight with Steve Rogers, the Red Skull touches the Tesseract, and the Space Stone within it finds him unworthy and sends him to Vormir to serve as a guide for those seeking the Soul Stone.
Early 1990s - Gamora is born on the planet Zen-Whoberi.
~1999 - Thanos kills half of the population of Zen-Whoberi and kidnaps little Gamora, whose parents his army had just executed.

Between the fall of 2014 and May 2018:
Nebula sneaks onto Thanos's ship and attempts to kill him. She almost succeeds, but Thanos captures her.
He takes her to a cell, accesses her memory files, where Gamora mentions that she knows where the Soul Stone is, and then proceeds to torture her.

Between November 2013 and May 2018 - Thanos arrives on Nidavellir and orders Eitri to make him the Infinity Gauntlet. Once it is made, he shuts down the forge and kills all of Nidavellir's dwarves except Eitri, whom he deprives of his hands.
Beginning of June 2016 - with the help of Rogers and Romanoff, Maximoff and Wilson escape from the Raft. Scott Lang and Clint Barton make a deal with the US and German governments to remain under house arrest instead of going into hiding.
~June 2016 - Wanda and Vision start dating.

Okay, here’s the thing about the main event date: it depends on the city. Literally. If we’re in New York, it looks like mid-May, if we’re in Atlanta or Edinburgh, I’d say March. They don’t really go together, so we’ll have to pick one. Considering other movies like Ant-Man and the Wasp and Thor: Ragnarok, our pick should be mid-May 2018.

Can we narrow this down to days? Let's try:
If the calendar here is the same as ours, which is not always the case. But let's assume that it is.
There is also a contradiction in the film regarding the day of the week (Wednesday vs. Tuesday) for the first day. Now there is no hint as to which one we should choose. But as with the month, I assume that what happens in New York is closer to the truth, so I will choose Wednesday.
In mid-May we also have two options: the second week (May 9) and the third (May 16).
So, in What If? S1E5, there's a direct mention that it's been two weeks since Hank went into the Quantum Realm in Ant-Man and the Wasp (May 2), so it must be May 16. What If often makes mistakes, and later in the same episode, it makes an obvious one, but if it works in this case, let's go with that option.
