Voltage Inc medical headcanon #1

After re-reading Ayumu's POV for his first season, I came up with a medical headcanon, and now I think about introducing this type of headcanon. (Wait four more years and I'll introduce psychiatry headcanons. Now, I'm just a med student.)

So, Public Safety Detectives get into dangerous situations when they accidentally hurt themselves with metal things, dirty objects, and I don't remember Voltage Inc mentioning anything like this, but they are also probably bitten by animals and humans.

Do you know what are two main diseases that are transmitted like this? Tetanus and rabies.

Now, hear me out:

Public Safety Detective are always up to date with their tetanus and rabies vaccines. And this is not because they go every ten years for a booster.

Where I live, if you haven't been vaccinated in the last 6 months anti-tetanus, you are mandatory getting a tetanus vaccine if you come at the hospital with a dirty, old, or metal-caused injury. Something similar is with rabies, if you come with a bite.

I have no idea what are the time gaps in Japan, but I am sure that Public Safety guys get so many injuries that they are like:

"I was supposed to go to the doctor in two months, but I'll just get the vaccine now and for the next X years, I'll be immunized."

(There's not a problem to get a vaccine a little bit later or sooner.)

So, yes! I headcanon that Public Safety guys are always up to date with their vaccines just because they are hospitalized with so many wounds so often.

when the batboys get broken bones or other things that can't be fixed in the batcave, and have to go to an actual hospital, they make up the most outlandish sounding excuses for their injuries:

dick (with a broken leg): "well you see, i was actually trying to jump over a river on a pair of rollerskates"

jason (with broken ribs): "i was volunteering at the zoo... feeding the alligators. i fell backwards with the meat in my hands, and one pounced on me. funny how much damage they can do."

tim (with the worst concussion man has ever seen): "oh that? i was walking outside.. and my brothers were playing basketball on the top floor of the house, and one of them accidentally threw the ball out the window, and it landed on my head"

(bruce hears that one and has to reconsider whether or not the version of the story tim told him (getting hit by condiment king's mustard launcher) was the truth or not)

than at the end of the day he goes to the med bay and reports all his findings to medic and the two of them just gossip together while medic performs surgery on heavy until the sun goes down

Just started thinking about labor and delivery nurse Steve Harrington having to fill in for his best friend Robin in the ER at the last minute on his off week

And who stumbles in (comes in on a stretcher) but rock star Eddie Munson who fell off the stage at his show just because he’s incredibly clumsy (this isn’t even the first time it’s happened). His leg is very obviously broken at the knee because he broke his fall with it and he’s struggling to focus on questions because of the pain.

One of his bandmates came with him, Jeff, who Eddie keeps referring to as his mom on the road. Jeff calls Eddie’s next of kin so they can focus on giving him a scan, pain meds, and setting his leg as soon as possible.

The pain meds kick in fast and he’s flirting with Steve nonstop.

And he’s good.

He hits all of Steve’s buttons: the obnoxious pet names that should be annoying but aren’t, the casual touches to his hands and arms as he gets him comfortable, the lines he’s using that are stupid but adorable.

He has no reason to stay after they take care of his major injury and the one spot on his arm that needed stitches. He didn’t hit his head and passes all the concussion protocol tests, his stats are normal, his pain is being managed with a prescription of Tylenol with codeine. He can go home.

But Eddie insists he should have Steve’s number in case he gets worse (he won’t) or has questions (google is available). Steve gives him his number.

He texts him almost immediately.

And keeps texting him for days.

Weeks.

Calls him every morning before Steve’s shifts. Every time his post-show adrenaline matches up with Steve’s lunch breaks. Every time their schedules sync up.

And then he shows up randomly to get his cast removed.

Steve reminds him he could’ve gone anywhere, especially because he was working his usual floor.

Eddie reminds him that he wanted an excuse to see him.

Steve manages to grab a 30 minute lunch break when all his fellow nurses and doctors find out his Eddie is visiting.

When Eddie leaves, it’s with a promise to be back when tour ends in less than a month, a promise to take Steve on a real date, and a promise to be the best damn boyfriend Steve’s ever had.

I saw a few other blogs doing this so I thought I'd share my input on what I think would happen in the House MD universe in 2024:

the constant jokes abt house and wilson's relationship turns into the fellows jokingly writing fanfic abt their boss and his boy best friend. somewhere along the way they all get very serious abt the quality of it and it turns into a Whole Thing, a 150k+ novel that they vow to take to their graves.

house discovers the fic by accident and sends it to wilson. wilson discovers things abt himself and then he and house discover each other shortly thereafter.

house purposefully posts the fic online and credits the fellows by their entire full names so it embarrasses them more than house and wilson. It's never spoken abt again but it gets way more online attention than any of them expected.

wilson doesn't get how the Cloud works and accidentally uploads his and house's nudes to the google nest hub on his desk. He doesn't notice it until one of his sweet little old lady cancer patients points it out to him during their appointment. He throws the google nest hub into his trash can until he can figure out how to get the naked pictures off of it.

house has an alexa and abuses the hell out of it. sometimes ppl hear him screaming at someone in his office, only to walk in and find a robotic voice replying with "sorry, I didn't get that" and house throws it off the balcony.

wilson gets addicted to online shopping. house has to stage an intervention bc they do not have enough room in their closet for another pair of prada loafers and their kitchen is full of shitty gadgets that wilson bought off temu or something.

some right wing social media influencer comes in with a mysterious illness and ends up getting castrated as part of the solution. 13 personally does the procedure herself and house watches like a proud dad.

a patient reveals chase's grindr by shoving his phone at him and asking "is this you?" abt the headless profile with the ripped abs that says Dr. Feel Good, 0 feet away, in front of the rest of the team.

foreman finds the team doing tiktok dances bc house told them to learn it in order to understand their 15 yr old patient better.

chase medically murders mitch mcconnel and the entire hospital celebrates ding dong the witch is dead style.

there's a whole episode where house faces his transphobia bc of a trans patient that he connects with. the patient tells him to fuck off and go face his own problems instead of pretending to make it right by being nice to one trans person. And house does, even if he's not perfect, he really tries to do better.

13 gets her medical marijuana card and accidentally becomes the team's plug. her main customer is wilson who still supplies it to certain terminal patients. She hears "hey, can I hit your pen?" at least four times a day.

foreman buys a tesla and it blows up in the parking lot. they spend the entire episode trying to figure out who tried to kill foreman, but it turns out that teslas just do that sometimes.

there's an episode where house finds out that netflix is removing his favorite obscure tv show that ran for 2 seasons in 2002 and wilson recruits the team to hunt down a dvd copy of it without house finding out. they somehow manage to find one and spend a ridiculous amount of money on it, only to open the dvd case and find a copy of the porno wilson starred in that one time instead of the dvd of the show. park saves the day at the last minute by finding a copy of it in a box of dvds in her parents house.

TW: Suicidal thoughts

One of Yukihisa Maki's favorite subjects in med school was Pharmacology.

For those who don't know, pharmacology is one of the hardest subjects. There are a lot of inside jokes in between students and professors about it. It's not only about drugs. It's about their effect on the body, how the body changes them, how the body is changed by them, how they interact between each other. It's a lot to remember, but very fascinating.

However, that's not the reason Yukihisa liked it. It was also not because of the power of knowing it all gave him.

Yukihisa Maki liked Pharmacology because it gave him an explanation about how humans worked. The drugs affecting central nervous system were his favorite because it showed him how to understand some mental health processes.

Yet, as much as Yukihisa Maki liked Pharmacology, he feared it too. It was because it gave him too much power. Knowing that a little bit more than a gram of something could depress his respiratory system enough to kill him was something that gave him a lot to think about.

The "I can do it to myself if I want to" thought followed him for a very, very long time.
