I've already actually had ideas similar to this but I've never really gotten around to writing it but!

Yuu AU where Yuu comes from a high-fantasy world. All kinds of creatures, whether mythological or not, exist in Yuu's world and aren't limited to humans. Additionally, humans aren't powerless because some of them actually have superhuman abilities and even magic. Kind of like the world building in 'I'm Not This Kind Of Hero' (check it out, it's a classic and makes me feel old) or Medusa and Futakuchi-san by Makise Shaun. Also, now that I think about it, it’s similar to Monster High but the atmosphere’s different. Monster High’s more on the creepy-cool theme while this one’s a more wider and diverse side. Same concept, different font.

Human, elves, dragons, dwarves, nymphs, slimes, fairies, humanoid, non-humanoid, whatever species it is, exists back in Yuu's world. Imagine Yuu belonging to one of these species.

Yuu as a giant merperson like Shirahoshi from One Piece. Of course they aren't in their  true form when they arrive because they won't be able to fit in the Mirror Chambers otherwise. Yuu definitely has the advantage when the Octavinelle arc comes up because they just steamroll past through the twins with a flick of their tail, lmao.

Yuu as a harpy. If they're the type that can lay eggs, imagine having to explain to Deuce that no, the egg they laid wasn't fertilized so it wasn't going to turn into a baby, calm down. Oooo, now that I think about it, variations of harpies! Owls, crows, eagles, everything! Regardless, Harpy!Yuu probably puffs up threateningly every time Crowley's somewhere in the vicinity.

Yuu as a dragonkin. Are they the Western type with the more lizard features? Are they the Eastern type with the more noodle-like features? Are they able to completely turn human or are they the type who constantly has their draconic features out? Probably either sees Malleus as a threat because of territorial and hoarding instincts or tries to hoard Malleus themselves because kin instincts. Well, depending on the type of dragon Yuu's gonna be, that is. Some dragons are solo creatures while others are more social.

Yuu as a slime. Whether they're more humanoid or just a round ball of goo, this Yuu's just vibing. Virtually zero damage can be done to them since they always just reform unless they're met with their weakness. Of course, this also depends on what kind of slime Yuu's gonna be since there's like a ton of slime variants out there. Some are infused elementally, some are infused with something else like metal, poison, acid, whatever. Oooo, just imagine a tiny ball of blob that can fit on the palm of your hand. This Yuu would probably be used as a stress ball a lot, that is if Yuu allowed it. Imagine a Yuu slime variant that doesn’t speak but instead wiggles to communicate. 

Yuu as a shadow creature. Which when faced off against the overblots just utterly decimates them immediately because not only are they a creature of the shadows, they are the shadows themselves. Kind of like Pride from Fullmetal Alchemist minus the eyes. Just imagine seeing your housewarden overblot and having this ink creature menacingly looming behind them and then see an even bigger creature appear and loom behind them. 

Yuu as an android, kinda like Ortho. I feel like this Yuu is the type to give Ortho a gun and be like, “Go, commit crimes, child.” This Yuu is probably a walking, talking military-grade bioweapon. Was definitely a big headache for Idia in STYX because Yuu hacked and overrode the systems.

Yuu as an arachne (spider-human hybrid). They just arrived and someone in the Mirror Chambar already fainted, frothing at the mouth (It was totally Jamil). They get Ramshackle and was like, ‘Score!’ and now it’s full of spiderwebs everywhere. It looks even more haunted than before, they’ve made themselves completely home. I don’t know why but I imagine this Yuu being the cheerful and energetic type.

Of course, let’s not forget the possibilities for the human variants of Yuu. Mad scientist Yuu who likes creating androids and robots. Probably has these tiny drone things hovering around them that shoot out lasers and practically doesn’t step outside Ramshackle because they’re too busy trying to build stuff until Crowley forces them out. Magic user Yuu who, well, uses magic. Probably doesn’t need any wand to cast spells and their magic is probably more versatile than the magic in Twisted Wonderland because they virtually have no limits in casting whatever aside from their limited mana.

TW dehumanisation, cannibalism of a humanoid species

A world where merfolk are nothing but exotic delicacies to humans. Of course, such an elusive species would only be served to the richest and most influential of people but that doesn't mean that the demand is any lesser.

A merperson unlucky enough to be targeted for such a reason would either be lured into a netted trap or even be hunted down in their own habitat. Then they would be mercilessly butchered- their killers' ears plugged to avoid listening to their chillingly human-like screams- before ending up as on a fancy, garnished plate. The humanoid torsos remain untouched, eventually being dumped into the ocean in their hundreds, where thousands of living merfolk can witness the gruesome fate of their kin.

There are movements and organisations against this as mermaids are too similar to humans to be regarded as 'just another meat-giving animal' but such a pleasure isn't going to be given up any time soon, especially when there are so merfolk left.

Mermay Prompts!

1. Character A trades their life as a merperson for the chance to live on land. However, they weren’t anticipating the numerous challenges that come with that, including learning how to fit in with a new band of creatures (whether that be human, a mythical race, etc.). Or remembering to drink water on a regular basis.

2. It’s a popular myth that sirens seduce passing sailors with attractive looks and song. But really, man risks death for wisdom, not for music. What knowledge does Character A, the siren, have that B wants? Does A manage to lure them into destruction?

3. Character A has always dreamed of studying a real merperson up close. When they finally get the chance to study an injured one— Character B— in their company’s lab, the experience is equal parts exciting and enervating. What sort of mental stimulus does A think B needs? How unhappy is B with being locked up? How nightmarish are the logistics of keeping a merperson in a saltwater tank where said mer has opposable thumbs?

4. Character A and some friends go canoeing in a popular paddling spot when they encounter some rough waves and A’s canoe hits something heavy. When the rammed object surfaces, everyone is aghast. Turns out freshwater mermaids exist. And there’s a concussed one floating in the water in front of them.

5. Wanting to bridge the gap between the merpeople and other species, Character A seeks to meet with their leader. Along the way, they unintentionally propose to the leader’s kin. Seems they have a lot to learn about merpeople customs…

6. Sirens are born of death and destruction, their ancestry rooted in drownings and misery. Character A is a siren who’s seen enough of life to know there’s nothing all that special about it. Character B, the cheery antithesis of A, is determined to prove them wrong.

7. Character A is a human who loves surfing. Character B is a merperson enamored by humans. The pair start to form a bond, though the more B falls in love, the more A considers how to tell them they’re arospec.

8. A and B have hated each other’s guts from the beginning — A is an aggravated/murderous merperson, and B is a pirate on a mission. They keep running into each other, even when they don’t intend to. Many of their fights have ended in stalemates, and along the way, they’ve realized they’re more alike than they thought.

9. Merperson A and human B have been friends for ages. B's a marine biologist on the search for new mer species, and A finds creative and fun ways to help them out on their quest. Turns out there's a lot more types of merpeople than even A knew, and dialects/cultural shifts just like on land.

10. Character A's been sickly since they were a kid and have spent a lot of their childhood indoors. When a family trip to the lake ends with them flailing in the water, an unexpected savior arrives. Character B is a merperson roughly the same age as A, and is interested in becoming their friend. Whether they have ulterior motives, however, remains to be seen.

Etzel was hunting along the outskirts of the reef when he encountered someone new.

Usually, when another merperson trespassed his hunting grounds, he would've raised his hackles and flared his pheromones, bared his serrated teeth in alpha challenge. He was a big male, even amongst other great white sharks, and few of his kin had the brass to square up on him — for other merfolk, it would be suicide.

But he was aware of the current and the vague shadows at the edge of his senses, growing in number as the days pass; soon it would be mating season, and hopeful suitors would make themselves known. Perhaps this newcomer was one of them.

So Etzel hung back and chose to observe instead, hoping the growing silhouette would just pass him by.

I’ll put a couple examples I’ve seen for the Mer Kin flag as ideas and while I’d accept it as the official flag for Mer Kin, I have ideas I want to share.

The first flag listed is good, in my opinion. I love the scales and the seven point star but I feel like it copies too much of the pride strip pattern that waaay too many flags seem to be defaulting to, again, in my very incredibly humble opinion.

The next one is, in my opinion, even more of a copy of the very boring stripe pattern as well as lacking the seven point star. The fin DOES get a clearer “Mer” message across, though.

The last photo is my amateur rough draft of my idea.

On the typical 3x5 flag template, a circle is at the center of, lines swirling from the circle to the lower left and upper right corners of the flag. In the center, a seven point star with a mer tail symbol in the middle.

In the upper left, the North Star would be seen. In the lower right, the southern cross. My reasoning being that using stars to navigate when traveling by sea is common and having both the northern star and southern cross is inclusive to everyone on the southern hemisphere.

The stars would be white, the outline of the swirls (I was trying to mimic the curve of a wave) along with the seven point star and mer fin would’ve black. The corner that has the northern star would start as a light sea foam green and fade into a blue that would eventually fade into purple once on the side with the southern cross.

Another idea is to remove the stars and put the moon in one corner (because of the effect it has on tides) and the mer fin in the other corner to avoid cramping the middle.
