Here's an updated Salah posted last night, after he and his family were displaced for the sixth time:

Though Salah and Manar started out with the hopes of rebuilding, they've now made the difficult choice to begin saving up for an evacuation. Their campaign, however, is still very low on funds, and its been stagnating completely for the last few days, leaving them with barely enough for their immediate survival.

Buck sat down on the station couch and frowned down at his phone, waiting for the typing bubbles to appear.

He and Tommy were trying again, taking it slow and working through everything properly this time. Tonight was supposed to be a part of that — a semi-casual date night at a local Malaysian restaurant Buck had wanted to try — where they could carve out time for the both of them to enjoy the others company and talk over good food. If the reviews were anything to be believed, that is.

But evidentially, plans have changed. Buck's not mad about it, no way, they can always go eat another time. Buck's just glad Tommy still wants to spend the evening with him.

He'd been really looking forward to it — his date night with Tommy. It had been the driving force carrying him through his shift. Knowing that at the end, he'd be able to go see Tommy.

Knowing that he'd be able to see his man dressed up nice, with a button up shirt that hugged his chest just right. That Tommy would look at him fondly while he spent entirely too long going over everything in the menu. That they could hold hands over the table while they waited for their order, and could press their ankles together under the table while they ate so they still had a point of contact. That Tommy would insist they get dessert, and Buck would agree because he loves Tommy's sweet tooth.

But above all else, he just wanted to go see Tommy. Buck always felt lighter when he was around. He hopes it's the same with Tommy.

That was something Buck had been learning about Tommy this time around, now that they were talking about more things that were scary, and more things that were real — he wasn't a fan of being angry. He grew up with an angry father, he said, was more scared of becoming him than he liked to admit. Letting the cycle repeat. He didn't want to risk it. He was a big guy, intimidating by sheer stature, and he didn't like to be angry on top of it.

The fact that he was worried, meant he'd never become his father. He'd never be like him in any way. Buck knew this, and Tommy was trying to let himself believe it.

But he needed to process through it.

Tommy would take the time before dinner to work through his anger as best he could, they both knew this, but Tommy felt more comfortable recovering at home after something really riled him up. He'd go to the gym, go for a run around the block, exhaust himself before retreating home to shower and rest.

As much as he was looking forward to seeing Tommy, he'd reschedule in a heartbeat if Tommy needed it. Tommy loves to look after him, to care for him, to love him — and Buck wants to do the same. As much as Tommy will let him.

And how, or why would Buck say no to that? He said he admired Tommy for being brave, and that hasn't changed at all now that he admires him for being brave and letting him in. He knows that Tommy admires him for taking more time for himself, for letting himself be a little more selfish.

They're good for each other. They always were, just even more so now.

Later, in the quiet of his Jeep when there's no one else around to listen in, Buck will call and cancel their reservation. He'll make a pick up order from that burger place Tommy loves, driving it over so they can eat it fresh and hot. Tommy will open the door in a worn LAFD shirt and sweatpants; looking clean, and soft, and relaxed.

Buck will listen as his boyfriend bitches and rants through their dinner, in a way Tommy wouldn't let himself in the confines of the restaurant. He'll hum that he's listening and make all the right comments because he gets it. They get each other in a way they're finally, really starting to understand.

He'll steal a spare pair of sweatpants from Tommy and clean up the wrappers while Tommy looks through his shelves for a romcom for them to watch. They'll curl up on the couch under a fuzzy blanket that has no business being that comfortable, Tommy tucked under Buck's arm, and he won't regret cancelling their reservation for a second.

I find the fact that the confrontation at the end of UTRH is often summarized as Jason asking Bruce to kill the Joker for him fascinating.

Because that's not what happened.

Jason holds a gun up to Joker's head, gives Bruce another, and tells him that if Bruce doesn't do something (shoot Jason), he will kill Joker.

Jason doesn't give the gun to Bruce so that he would shoot Joker. He isn't expecting Bruce to pull the trigger on the clown. He's asking Bruce to do nothing. To be inactive. Because that will still be a choice, and despite having done nothing, everybody clearly agrees that Bruce would still, at least in part, be responsible for Joker's death.

...And to me, this moment is a kind of- microcosm, of the rest of Jason's point. Because after being captured and carted off to Arkham, the villain will escape again, and will kill more people. The only way to truly prevent that from happening would be to kill them; Bruce refuses to do so, and I respect his right to choose such a thing for himself, but it is still a choice, and if we agree that Bruce's inaction during the confrontation would leave him at least partly responsible for the Joker's death, then we must also agree that his inaction in permanently preventing the Rogues from killing more people means he is also, partly, responsible for all of those deaths.

okay so i think genuinely that the carbon monoxide poisoning shared hallucination has to do with Van, Akilah, and Shauna, and their various places in the wilderness/ways in which the wilderness is attached to them:

WITH AKILAH: the wilderness fed her berries that she gorged on and took her to animals, it even came and spoke to her in the form of the llama (presumably a creature akilah would view as cuddly, soft, nonthreatening, not a sheep but not a wolf, either) it gave her advice. everything that has teeth bites. and when the dream took her to the classroom, it pulled her through the dirt slowly. the wilderness has been frequently compared to the ground itself throughout the show; even Misty said "thank dirt" jokingly as a way to thank the wilderness. I think akilah getting pulled into the dirt was exactly that: the wilderness pulling her into it's embrace. Maybe travis was right, maybe the wilderness is talking to akilah, maybe it has a favorite.

in the classroom, the slap bracelet adheres harmlessly to akilah's wrist- the wilderness's loving embrace. it doesn't want to harm akilah, but it will have her eventually, one way or another.

WITH VAN: the wilderness took her back to the cabin. it put a roof over her head, gave her a cozy chair, and a warm fire. but after a moment of rest, van was trapped in like she was in the plane, stuck and burning. it also isn't remiss to me how van goes to the cabin pre-decay, how everything looks upkept, im not sure if this is an allusion to the ways that van is stuck in the past or something else. i think that is the gist of it though; the wilderness is van's home, and she is trapped there, trying to escape but always opening doors that lead right back to it.

in the classroom, when van tries the slap bracelet, it scratches her but not enough to maim or kill: i think this maybe means that the wilderness can't hurt van, won't hurt van, but van isn't as unkillable as she seems. She can still be hurt and killed, but not by the wilderness- maybe something else will end up being her demise.

WITH SHAUNA: i find it so fascinating that in shauna's vision she is in the lake, very similarly to how lottie was during her baptism scene, and she's dragged down to the bottom of the water as lottie was too. but, of course, the obvious: shauna's pursuit of the things she cannot have. shauna, constantly swimming towards the shore, chasing after her son, who she lost, trying to bring back jackie, trying to grapple for power in the group. shauna is in such a unique position because she has never once in the course of what we've seen give in to or believe in the wilderness, except to hunt (and maybe for shauna, the hunt is something more selfish), and it almost seems in this moment, the wilderness is punishing her for it,

because the slap bracelet completely rejects her. it tries to kill her. wraps arounf her neck and chokes her, cuts through her skin. obviously we know in the moment that thats actually because shauna was choking on the gas in the cave, but what if it's an indication of a bitter future for shauna? if shauna tries to steal the crown from natalie and name herself queen, i think this moment tells us explicity how the wilderness will react. firm rejection. the wilderness did not pick shauna. doesn't even seem to like her, really. and why should it? shauna doesn't believe in it, doesn't play by it's rules.

and lottie playing teacher in that scene. we know she feels cut off from the wilderness, and i think in this moment were seeing the reflection of her "pupilage". we know she's already set her sights on akilah but maybe in the future we'll see lottie trying to force van and shauna to commune with the wilderness as well.

and dont get me started on jackie. jackie still in her mean girl persona, judging everyone's reactions to the bracelet, the wilderness itself personified. she tells van that happens sometimes when she cries out from the pain like van is embarrassing for reacting, like she should've known all along what would happen if she took the bracelet. and we cant ignore that jackie's hair is noticeably longer, like time has passed for her, like she's changed too.

anyways, im so excited to see where this goes throughout the season. i love this show.
