39 years ago today! The MOVE bombing is easy to sweep under the rug because its victims were radicals who rejected the norms of mainstream society, but the actions taken against the numerous people killed or made homeless were still unjust.

A commission found that Goode and others had acted recklessly in their decision to drop the bomb, but charges were never filed and Goode was re-elected. It’s since cost taxpayers upwards of $45 million over the years to rebuild the neighborhood. In 2000, after new homes built by the Philadelphia Redevelopment Authority were found to be lacking, the city bought out 36 families and boarded up the houses there. It took 16 years for a new RFP to be issued, which was won by developers AJR Endeavors. In 2018, they began showing the completed dwellings — a project called Osage Pine — and they’re now selling for about $250,000 a piece.

Since the bombing, the bones of two children, 14-year-old Tree (Katricia Dotson) and 12-year-old Delisha Orr, were kept at the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. In 2021, Billy Penn revealed that according to the museum, the remains had been transferred to researchers at Princeton University, though the university was unaware of their exact whereabouts. The remains had been used by Janet Monge, an adjunct professor in anthropology at the University of Pennsylvania and a visiting professor in the same subject at Princeton University, in videos for an online forensics course named “Real Bones: Adventures in Forensic Anthropology,” as case studies.[27] Present-day MOVE members were shocked to learn this, with Mike Africa Jr. stating "They were bombed, and burned alive ... and now you wanna keep their bones."[28]
