I know some of y'all are horrified that I watch a majority of shows with no sound, but I think if you muted a show every now and then, you'd see the appeal. You're already reading the subtitles. Just push that little button and embrace the silent life.

People who stim, does anyone have suggestions for alternate stims to humming?

I've started humming (low, monotone, chest-voice) as a stim and it's kind of exhausting to do all the time, and some days my voice doesn't go low enough to give the right rumbly feeling so then I get stressed out because I can't stim the way I need to.

Anyone got any ideas for something else that would fulfill the same ecological niche as deep humming?

Mixed feelings abt this paper (it’s a master’s thesis and has quite a few flaws imo) but this point on how deeply important racializing hygiene was to the colonial system makes me think a lot about how hygiene and race is still perceived in East Asia. Like I do think the assumption of Japanese = cleanly that is so commonly held in China even among nationalists is very much a colonial legacy, which leads into what I was complaining about earlier where lack of research on colonial legacies literally leads to this sort of unquestioned acceptance of it. Japan didn’t just invade China and do some war crimes although that was done as well, it colonized parts of China and the impacts of that are going to last and in my opinion need to be accepted and looked at for successful decolonization.

She waved at me from across the square. Although I was in a hurry to get to the medical clinic about the sudden, intermittent, and strangely inconsistent bouts of hearing loss I'd been experiencing, I went over to her.

"Hi again," she blushed. Her long red hair draped wildly down on to her flowing green dress. She looked very different from the last time. Was she an information booth attendant or a princess? She grabbed my arm and jumped, planting a kiss half on the cheek and half on the lips. Had she meant to do that, or just missed?

"So, uh, I know we just met and it's okay to say no," she continued, "but there's this ball I'm going to later, and I'm wondering if you'd like to join me? They have this thing, it's tradition, called 'The Last Kiss', where the last couple down the stairs gets to share a big kiss at the bottom, and I'd like to try for it. With you."

I thought about it for a moment, and only one thought sprung to mind. "Are there fistfights at the top of the stairs to decide out who's last?"

"I don't know. Would you like to come and start one with me?"
